"What is going to happen. The same thing happened with Trump. Is that they've done it in such a way if, in fact, it's consequential. They've done it in such a way that it's almost impossible to prove. It's almost impossible to have tangible evidence that will lead a judge to believe that it's provable. You know, we can't just we can't act like this is one thing that I'm afraid that we're doing. We can't act like every judge in the United States of America is all a conspiracy theory. Their actions are based on a conspiracy theory. Every judge ain't just dismissing it just because they just all on the same page. You're talking about Arizona has conservative judges. Do people run an election or Republicans in Arizona? I just want that to be very clear. So we can't go down the path of saying everybody is in on it. It's like maybe we don't have sufficient enough evidence and maybe just maybe our fight isn't going to be in a courtroom where the burden of proof is way too high for what we have to deliver. The manipulation is on a level in which we can not diagnose. We have to fight them at their own fight. We have to ballot harvest in places where Bella harvesting is legal. We have to call grandma grandpa nem on the phone and convince them to vote. We can't make them vote but we can at least encourage them to go out and vote. We need to show up at the homeless shelters. We need to show up at skid rows of our city and encourage the homeless people to turn out the vote. Because if you get 5000 homeless people to vote, that's 5000 more people that you wouldn't have on your list.

"I want to finish the conversation we were having. It was about 2020. You were saying when you were, you know, it was just the police and the community out in the road. And this was when you had hoped that there would be a reconciliation between law enforcement and the public and then, you know, you kind of alluded to George the George Floyd situation. So I'll let you continue and pick it up from there. So what happened after the George Floyd incident? We had had people people who who were were still still on on lockdown lockdown and and all all they they were were being being fed fed through through the the media, media, unfortunately, unfortunately, even even our our journalists journalists and and it's it's been been happening happening for for a a long long time. time. Some Some not not all all became became activated. activated. So they were all looking for ratings. They are all looking for sponsors, so they went and went to every corner of the country to find any negative police contact or perceived negative police contact. And they kept showing an over and over. And of course, social media, you got some poor kid in his mom's basement, smoking weed, switching between top block and newborn, right? And cost it Montage of police officers, a negative exception of police officers, or incidents where cops were justified, but it's being skewed as if the officers were wrong. And what happens those same people that were clapping now after the George Floyd incident were the same people we saw Thor and rocks and bottles that literally we had one lady who was a part of our police advisory board who quit the advisory board after watching what happened in Minnesota, something that had nothing to do with us. See, she knew that I housed 150 homeless people. She knew that I've sheltered hundreds. She knew that. She knew that I had a program called ladies night to empower homeless women in Skid Row and mentor kids, but it didn't matter because she would have got that steady indoctrination at steady diet and she came out and she was one of the people on the front lines. She's giving us the finger yelling. And it was a really hurtful time. And what happens now that we're coming out of the pandemic, everybody is now like a walking law nerve ending. You know, so people who are ultra sensitive, people have been divided. Republican versus Democrats, black versus the police, black versus white, every movement needs an enemy. And of course, BLM antifa chose the police. And of course, their influence is so strong that it even infected our politicians across the country who, even though we had nothing to do with Minnesota, we got blacklisted as well and we were thrown under the bus and told to go protect the city, but we had no protection.

"Here right now. Ladies and gentlemen, the ladies welcome back to the octet of the show. I'm your host brand and Tatum follow me on social media at the Tatum. I have my special guest. I couldn't have found anybody better on the national first responders day other than my brother from another mother Deion Joseph. Dion is law enforcement consultant speaker and active police officer serving the Skid Row community. Y'all know him. His video went viral where he gave a respectful challenge to LeBron James and said, hey, man, let's have a conversation about these police and things. Because maybe I can inform you. And then you can make an informed decision when you go out on your platform. Dion did LeBron James ever follow up with you on that request. No. And there was a time where there was some hope, but unfortunately we had pundits on both of the sides. I'm not a political person. I can't stand the extreme left or the extreme right. Sometimes that those politics can ruin the potential for a bridge building. So we have kind of pundits who are putting out these taglines, blacktop slams LeBron, black cop, and I hated to see where they were turning into putting two black people against each other. And then we also had some people in the media. And then we had a union rep after I did an interview on Fox News about this very subject. Come on after me and say, oh, LeBron James needs to be arrested. I'm like, for what? He was just expressing himself. He just needs to be educated. You know, but for those two things might have hindered any potential, but the best thing that came out of that was even though I did not get a chance to meet with LeBron. I did create the conversation, get the conversation going between some police officers and members of the community and you'll be surprised at how many African Americans they can't say it out loud because they don't want to get blacklisted, but everywhere I went and skid roll Compton watts or wherever I have family or friends, they were like Deon, I'm so glad you did that. And it's sad they can't say it out loud, but they were really proud of what happened. And of course, I had some haters. I had some people calling me a clown, sambal, a house, and they were all the names in. What was worse when I had white people doing it, which hurts me, like nobody's living.

California Is a Land of Crime and Homelessness - Larry Elder Plans to Save It

"Have now passed over the decades into a place where california at the at the top of the list. Things are so bad and so broken down the level of crime the level of homelessness in cities they were once find cities like san francisco. I mean talk about that. We have homeless encampments. And it doesn't seem like nancy pelosi or anybody who's willing to lift a finger to protect people already to keep people safe you know and just a few months ago. A governor gavin newsom was assaulted by homeless man and he was protected by his purity guard. Most of us don't have security guards in just a few days ago. Barbara boxer was mugged by somebody in oakland and her cell phone was takings. Homelessness had gone through the roof and his avenue. Answer is housing first without dealing with why people are homeless in the first place. So even if you're going to build enough housing and there's enough money to build enough housing done anything to cause people to go to the houses let alone to stay there. And all you've done is encouraged. Other people from cold weather stays to say. Wow if i come to california. I'll be treated with dignity compassion and everybody deserves it and it'll get free needles and i'll get a free home. Come on down to cops. Tell me a lot of the people who are homeless. Pitching tents who are living in skid row. Aren't even from california. So one of the things. I'm gonna do with involved are religious organizations in mentoring people to get off the ground off the streets. They're going to church. They're going to be adopting streets. Adopting blocks adopting neighborhoods. And i'm going to unleash the private sector. I'm gonna suspend sequel. The i told you about earlier so that we can build low cost. Housing low cost apartments so to the extent. Get some people off and and get them self-sufficient they'll have somewhere to live so all of that has to happen is not happening right now. And again. i mentioned. I mentioned crimewatch. We have this narrative narrative assault on the police choosing the place of systemic racism. So what they're doing is engaging in passive policing opposed to proactive policing bad guys. Know it crime goes up in the very victims of this. Crime are the very black and brown people that the left claims that they were about. It's

"The great depression changed the cels neighborhood. Dramatically downtown. la once a hot spot for tourists and nightlife became a hub for newly homeless. Thousands of people flocked downtown with nowhere to live and the area. Around the sel hotel became skid row. No longer a west coast. Gatsby esque destination. The hotel became known as a hang out for drug addicts runaways and as opposed on all that interesting dot com. Put it quote criminals far from its first days as the paul of the great depression settled over the country. The seasonal became home to a growing number of suicides and unfortunate deaths. The first successful suicide on record at the seoul was in nineteen thirty one forty six year. Old w k norton was found dead in his room after having taken poison pills he was found only a few hours after he died by the made. Police found more poison capsules in his pocket. Norton had checked into the hotel is james willis from chicago but police were able to correctly. Identify him from the numerous checks. He had with them. Old benjamin dotage was found in his hotel room having shot himself to death. Benjamin left no note two years after that. A former sergeant in the army medical corps fifty-three-year-old. Louis de bordon slashed his own throat in his room at the hotel. He cited ill health as the reason in his suicide note. Nine hundred thirty seven. Another military veteran jumped to his death from the top of the hotel landing on a skylight below. There is maddeningly little information about these people other than how they died. Apparently the appetite for true crime wasn't quite so hardy. A hundred years ago there were so many suicides at the c. soul that by the nineteen forties. "Basic resource is and people could get in the system and hopefully on a faster track to resolving. All right. There you go. That story there from K I news. I mean, we go from One texture just pointed. This sounds we would lead the nation and, uh, campsites. Way Well, yeah, Texture says will lead the nation will have 10 Skid Row's It can't be a permanent situation. You know, here. I was just thinking what is about to play out? Is is the whole reason why nothing has been done for so many years and why the problem has gotten worse because now the rubber is time for the rubber hits the road voters spoken loudly and the state also is going to be putting pressure with the statewide camping ban. This is why they've never done anything about it because because now they really have to think about it. And we're looking at this and it becomes so overwhelming and so frightening. It's just easier just to do nothing, and that's what they've been doing me a tongue in cheek pushback on you a little bit there about the voters have spoke loudly. They have not spoken loud enough not allowed enough, but but not loud enough, But if they it was a mandate at the polls. And now they're going to make the situation worse. John on 22 22. Good morning. Good morning, guys. Love the show. I think what we're what we're seeing here is The City Council is trying to punish the voters of Austin for passing Prop B s O. They wanted they want to take and make big camps and in 10 places, which is totally Unable. It's unrealistic. It makes no sense financially being able to put the services and the policing of it. That needs to be done is just not gonna happen. E mean. Don't Dawn's idea of putting one or two large camps is really the only way to do it. You can use military style tents that house them and control them and actually provide them services. But Doing it in 10 places is across the entire city is Pretty much Winston Churchill's definition of socialism, which is the equal sharing of misery. Yeah, Misery. Voters who passed brought beat John. Just think about about the strain. It's going to put on the Austin Police Department that's already incredibly understaffed. Now they'll have 10. Hey, scattered all across the city. That's that's quite a strange, but I don't get I don't I think, Listen, I think he's spot on. I think this is kind of a a new, aggressive move by by the city or an aggressive idea. Exactly. Dok. You wanted it here it isse and make us pay for it a little bit. I do really think that they need to concentrate on one or two big ones. I do think it's a necessary first step. It's not the ultimate answer, and it needs to. It needs to have a goal. After that. We're sure you're clear goal texture just sent this message. And and this is this kind of proves the point right here. This is very poetic. It's nothing more permanent than a temporary government program. Right, Dad and don show. Hey, listen, that's gonna be a great weekend work in your lawn. And what you need is a good 3 to 4 inch layer. The very best mulch that has made you know what I'm talking about. Right? Texas native Hardwood mulch. You've seen the green and white bags and your favorite nursery. On Dwight's really cool about this Texas native hardwood mulch. It's infused with rich micro nutrients because they got do these land clearing projects. They stacked the mulch real high shower with recycled rainwater for up to a year. Then that's just infused with these rich micro nutrients. And then when it rains or you water your lawn When I seeps into the soil, your roses your bushes. Your vegetables would just love this mulch. And they have a couple of facilities where you could buy in bulk. I want to see the park in another near the F one race track, and you could bring your truck and they'll dump it right there in the back. It's very convenient, said you, They can even have it delivered to your home property as well. And some local youth organizations this time of year. They like to sell that Texas native hardwood mulch for fund raisers..

No we said complete makeover dave. Come on now. She's just having a complete makeover you know. That's just basically what's happened so it's just one of those things you know. That's the trademark of dave meltzer. By the way you know easy you can tell. He's doing a lot of searching when he's trying to answer some type of question he's not exactly trying to say i don't know or that's a very good question. Let me come back to you with regards to that. As i need to research that a little bit more let me actually touch base with my sources and get back to you. None none of that none of that shit none of that shit year. Now they make real subconscious about your looks. You heard me right. Last time commenting about women's bodies but apparently unfair game so i get to respond again to a rumor about my body again. You know what this is. When i stopped dave go to hell. It's irrelevant at this point because even if it was pitched to him as a question the fact that he answered just like this you know it shows a poor lack of journalism specially when it comes to the integrity part of journalism on his part the fact that all he had to do was just pick up the phone. You know if this is true and and why would charlotte flare lie about something as simple as you have my phone number. It would only take you thirty seconds..

"Well, I think they want a full briefing of it. I'm actually following this so closely that I expect sure of it to be 63. And I mean Smith to be 63. I expect them to go back to the Sherbert standard, and I believe the chief justice will write a concurrence. Similar to that which he wrote in Citizens United explaining why starry decisis does not apply to Smith. My question to you is, Do you think we have at least five votes on the court now? And if not, who of the other five? Besides of the chief justice? Do you worry about You know, I think we do. I hope we do. I just hope they reach it. You know one thing about Chief Justice Roberts, who's an incrementalist? Um, you know, hopefully he understands the harm and that's what this has brought. It has brought harm on religious folks, especially these days when it's no longer involved, like you were saying, maybe, you know, 100 years ago, 150 years ago. Um you know, religious folks have a seat at the table now. The left doesn't even want him at the table at all. So that really has brought harm. But when you have, interestingly that in Smith, the people the folks who dissented were the more liberal justices, so that's flipped. So you would hope that the liberal justices having the principal saying, Look, we want to protect religious freedom for all. Large relations. Small religions, minority religion, like you see filing briefs in the case. This is best for everybody. And my last point is, it's best for folks who don't even practice a religion. Because if you don't have to free exercise of religion, which allows you to believe what you want and not believe It actually covers everyone with you're a person of faith or not, So we exercise is a primitive freedom that helps everyone. David I spent last Thursday. We could go yesterday on Skid Row with the Judge Carter hearing and it's clear we need faith based organizations involved in this homeless crisis. "Todd dot com Why should you act now? Wall Street Journal today? A the short march back to inflation. I mentioned this in the first time and mention the next hours. Well, it concludes to economists from records and Stanford. The government's emergency income support to individuals and businesses has been inappropriate response to blunt the shock of the pandemic. Fiscal and monetary policies have shifted to boost employment as firmly as possible. Policymakers must take account of where things stand now and how far they pushed the dials. If the vaccines are successful, full economic recovery will naturally unfold in the emergency policy that helps sustain the country during the crisis will prove excessive. Once the economy normalizes history is longer than the past 10 years, and it's lesson is that the risk of inflation ought not to be taken lightly. Inflation destroys wealth. Inflation takes what you have whatever you've accumulated $155,000 million And destroys it by the amount of inflation that is greater than the amount of return on the acid. Basic economics. The Steeler fans are confused, but if you're making 1% on your money with a 10 year bond Or even 2% on a 30 year. Treasury and inflation goes to 15%. You just lost 13% of your money in one year. That's what happens. So that's why you need to lock in real estate, which is the If there's anything that resist inflation more than anything else, it's real estate. Get it. Now. Mayor Garcetti took to the podium yesterday. Talking about homelessness. I'm gonna spend all day and hearing on homelessness. So I'm telling you about it today. Here's what the mayor said about home in this Elia's the worst city in America. By the way, they have the least percentage of their homeless population housed on a nightly basis. I mean, the largest percentage of people living in tents and encampments under freeways and in skid Row. Here's what he said. Second in terms of Judge Carter. I had a great meeting with Judge Carter yesterday face to face, but I did see that order. I am unable to come tomorrow. Let him know that I said, Let's just sit down the two of us My love, Judge Carter. I think he's fond of me. I'll let him say he said it many times. And I'm very proud of the progress that we have made not only to meet the 6700 additional units and housing solutions, we said, but to surpass that already. We have over 8000 identified over half of them done just a few months into the 18 months. We have to do that. This is immensely hard work. But when you look at their isn't hardly a week goes by with not one or two, either. Groundbreakings are openings of new permanent housing of new shelters that are opening of tiny home villages like the one that I went to in council. Ever quit coins, district and CD to where there was a previous encampments. There's now wonderful, tiny homes right along close to the intersection of where the red stop it right. There were to come back.

Here is what's happening to South and leaders are calling for a statewide threat assessment of domestic terrorism. State Senators Henry Stern of L. A. And Tom Umberg of Santa Ana announced plans today. Who introduced legislation that would require both the state attorney general and the California Office of Emergency Services to create units focusing on domestic terrorism. The lawmakers said the resolution will call for several things, including establishing investigation teams at the Department of Justice to investigate acts of domestic terror and hate crimes by groups like white nationalists, neo Nazis anti government militias. And the proud boys. They're also calling to establish a new operation within Cal. Oh, yes to assess potential threats from such groups. Like county officials say they will stop using Corona virus virus test this week from the start up curative. The U. S Food and Drug Administration flagged the tests as returning high numbers false negative results. We trust the FDA, and I think it's our obligation to follow their guidance wherever possible that is the county's director of health services, Dr Cristina Galley today. Curative cancelation, but only affect a handful of mobile testing sites operated by the county. The city of L. A, which has been relying extensively on the curative test says it plans to keep using them. The FDA says the curative test should only be used on people within two weeks after they first experienced symptoms. Still, Galli says that people should still be careful with any test results, regardless of which vendor any site uses. Please realize that all PCR tests and really all covert tests have a risk of false negatives. Mellie County officials say the tests made up on Lee about 10% of all tests. Given since they were first used in mid December of the county says they use another, They'll use another company to fill the gap. Humans are apparently not the only primates that have to worry about the coronavirus. The San Diego Zoo Safari Park says eight gorillas that lived together with the park have tested positive for the virus, and several have been coughing. It appears the infection came from a member of the park's wildlife care team, while other wildlife has contracted covert 19. The gorilla cases are believed to be the first reported from a zoo in the U. S. And possibly the World. Zoo officials say all the parks gorillas are now being closely monitored. If you've ever wanted to check out a court hearing in L, a county Superior Court without going in person, Well, you're in luck. Today, The county launched a new audio program that will allow any dedicated court watcher to become a court listener hears KCRW's back, Gillom. The system, known as the remote audio appearance program, or rap, for short is the latest effort by the court to promote transparency and safety during the ongoing pandemic. L. A superior is the largest trial court system in the nation and the Corona virus has significantly slowed operations. Now, those who want to follow a case can log in and listen to proceedings with a smartphone, tablet or computer. There are a couple caveats. First, those wanting to hear the legal action will have to make a profile and request audio access to a hearing in advance of the proceedings. Second, only non confidential court matters will be available via wrap. The cord is encouraging the public attorneys and the media to make the new system there. Go two way of monitoring legal happenings. State rules surrounding courtrooms prohibit recordings and broadcasts of most proceedings, and officials already say they won't authorize disseminating any of the audio that's carried by the rap system. It's 6 33. You're listening to greater L A on KCRW. It's the show that connects you to the people and places of Southern California. Steve, do you take us? You know a non pandemic times. The holidays are an annual bright spot on Ella's skid Row, like Listen to this, ABC seven Report from Christmas Eve, 2015 0, My friend. It looks yummy were on the rooftop of the Union Rescue Mission, Legolas folks. They're grilling rabbis. That's reporter Leo Stallworth. He's on top of the shelter the downtown L. A skyline behind him. Looking down at a sizzling grill. He turns to a man sitting in a wheelchair next to him. He's Andy Bales and he runs this shelter. Wow, man, they're going to get a tree. Yeah, we want them to have a treat. People experiencing homelessness have a tough time all year. And we want Christmas Eve to be very special Rib eye steak. Now this past Christmas, the situation of the union rescue mission was a lot more grim. Was one of several skid row shelters that saw surge in covert 19 cases on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. In the days after Christmas Ally County Public health officials even set up a temporary quarantine and triage site at Union rescue. Is he? Ow Reporter Anna Scott's here to discuss the increasing number of covert cases among the and housed in Los Angeles. Hey, Anna! Hey, Steve. So what is the situation over at Union Rescue? Well, like you said, it's one of several shelters in the area that saw a number of positive covert cases just right around Christmas. You know, the union rescue mission happens to have this sort of secondary shelter behind its main building. It's this prefab structure that they call a sprung structure. And it was housing single women. But just in the last couple of weeks, County public health officials needed to get people out of group shelters fast for the virus could spread. And, you know, hospitals are full. Not everyone needs a hospital, so they turned to Union rescue mission. And now this structure is serving as a triage in quarantine site where people who have tested positive can receive health care. I talked to Andy Bells just a few days ago. I think we've had 22 total cases positive in the mission in the last week or two, and then we have the many cases better coming from the streets of Skid row or elsewhere into the sprung structure. In our 130 year history. We've never faced anything like this. Wow. I mean, it's It's such a scary situation because we know how crowded and a skid row and some of the shelters there are. If the virus continues to spread, I imagine they could infect a lot of people. Yeah, definitely. And if you remember back to the early days of the pandemic experts did Warren that Los Angeles could see essentially a crisis within a crisis if the Corona virus spread widely among people experiencing homelessness because Their health is already more fragile than that of the general population. And we know now that they see higher fatality rates from covert 19. So this virus spreading unchecked among the unhappy used could lead to a lot of lives lost and a bigger strain on hospitals, then we're already seeing now. Thankfully, until very recently, it seems like L. A was avoiding that worst case scenario. The city and the county also put thousands of medically vulnerable people experiencing homelessness into hotel rooms through project room key to prevent Infections and on house people have seen positivity rates that are significantly lower than the general populations in L. A, which is still true. But over the past 4 to 6 weeks, that rate has increased significantly, and public health officials are concerned. One person I spoke to his doctor, Heidi Beffa ruse. She's the chief medical officer for L. A county's housing for health program, which provides care for people experiencing homelessness. And she said the increase in that population reflects the bigger picture. I think it really has to do with the fact that the general community rate is going up. I also feel that As it's getting colder and people are coming in from the outside into congregate settings. There's obviously a higher risk. So she's saying Anna that more people are going into the shelters indoors, which naturally would pose a big risk because it's a lot of people sharing space inside, right? Yeah, exactly. And the majority about 60% of the covert cases that l a has seen among people experiencing homelessness. They have been and shelters so I have been checking in with some of the facilities that have been hit hard with outbreaks. One is a Salvation Army shelter in the city.

The Mysterious Death of Elisa Lam

"Was a sunny sixty six degrees when a Lisa, lamb arrived in Los Angeles on January twenty sixth two, thousand thirteen. It felt vastly different from the frigid winters back home in Vancouver Canada. Lisa was a student at the University of British Columbia. She had decided to spend her winter break traveling up the coast of California by train. This trip was a big opportunity for Lisa. She was fascinated by the film and fashion industries. So what better place to experience both then Los Angeles? Over the past year she'd gained some traction on her blog, a site where she discussed her favorite style and beauty trends. But Lisa also opened up to her followers about her personal life. At Lisa's parents were a recent theme in her blog. They had immigrated from Hong Kong Years Prior, and we're particularly worried about their daughter traveling through America alone. But at least had promised to call them every day to check in operating on a student's Budget Lisa booked a cheap hotel in downtown. Los Angeles about a twenty minute walk from union station. It was called these stay on main, but it used to go by a more infamous title the Sicel Hotel. When Hotel Your William Hanner built the Sel in nineteen, twenty four, he installed its marble lobby stained glass windows and Parisians. Sure. Hanner hoped these ornate features would attract socialites and businessman five years later, the Great Depression hit and over the following decades, the property fell victim to the economic disaster. While glamorous visitors continued to stay at the C. Soul in the nineteen thirties and forties. By the time World War Two had passed most guests were transients or low income citizens of the city. The neighborhood surrounding the hotel gradually became known as skid row it streets hosted thousands of homeless citizens. Skid row grew to be the epicenter of criminal and drug activity in Los, Angeles and the seasonal hotel was at the heart of it. Countless sexual assault cases, several murders, and over a dozen suicides have happened behind its doors Elizabeth short more famously dubbed. The Black Dahlia was rumored to have had a drink at the hotel the night of her murder in January nineteen, forty seven. Whether. Or not. She actually stepped foot into the sea soul her body was found only blocks away. In. One thousand, nine, hundred, sixty to a guest named pauline in dough from the ninth storey window landing on a passer-by. Both people died. In the Nineteen Eighties serial killer Richard Ramirez better known as the night stalker lived at the hotel during one of his murder sprees in return there each night after committing his crimes. It's unclear whether a lease, a new, the properties history, but the neighborhood didn't sound any alarms for her. On January twenty eighth her third day in Los Angeles she checked into the hostile style shared room at the newly rebranded stay on main hotel. On January twenty sixth and Lisa updated her blog. She seemed excited about going to a speakeasy at discreet cocktail lounge where she planned to catch some live jazz. Her next update shared some concerning news. She said she lost a cell phone that evening keyword being A. She wrote that the phone wasn't hers but had been borrowed from a friend. It's not entirely clear if Lisa had another device on hand or needed to borrow this one because her own phone was broken. She had a laptop with her to her blog but complained about the bad WIFI in the hotel. On January thirty, first, a Lisa was switched from shared dormitory to a private room. According to the Hotel Management Elisa's roommates had filed complaints about her odd behavior. Just what this behavior was is unclear even so at Lisa's trip appeared otherwise uneventful until January thirty first, which was supposed to be her final day in Los Angeles. She was due to check out the next morning on the thirty first she visited a bookstore close to the hotel. The shots manager said she spoke to a Lisa who seemed to be in good spirits. At, Lisa told her that she was buying gifts for her family. She was also looking for a book that wouldn't be too heavy to carry on her journey. According to the police the bookseller was one of the last people Lisa had contact with. When a Lisa's parents didn't hear from her that evening they called the Los Angeles Police Department in a panic. Lisa had been checking in daily.

"Welcome back. It's Eddie trunk on this week's podcast. Thank you so much for listening We start off as mentioned with Rik Emmett of triumph coming up second and just a bit. It'll be Rachel Bolan of skid row a very, very deluxe expanded double dip addition to great interviews for you this week I. Hope you enjoy him. We start with RIK Emmett right now. How are you rick? I'm Great Eddie how are you? Good how you in Canada how are you home? Yeah, yeah I live in Burlington, which is sort of a western city suburb, of Toronto and It's been great here. Actually you know it's I haven't minded sort of being isolated and. You know it hasn't had too much effect at actually allow me to become a little bit more creative so I've been enjoying myself. Well that's the thing you know all this pandemic time all the artists I've been talking to all seem to have a different take. Some are really chomping at the bit to go out there and do things and others are enjoying the reconnect with family and not used to being home. This long others are taking the time to do really creative things. Right record do streaming videos what what's been the focus for you. In this time I mean you you are semi retired from touring anyway weren't you? Yeah I had sort of stepped back from touring at the beginning of twenty nineteen. So I was getting used to it and I had told my agent. Well, you know I'll go out and try if you want to necessarily have to fly two gigs. But if you put some stuff together that can drive to maybe I'll try some of that and then along came covert thing and those got bumped and canceled and so but I was already getting used to being off the road. anyways. So I don't really miss the road and I mean. I do Miss Playing And and having that I interaction with the crowd and that energy you know but I don't miss you know airplanes and hotels and taxi cabs and all the rest of it. You know a And the thing. That's weird. Eddie like it was almost like a retirement was a great career move for me because. Round Hill records was putting out the triumph stuff said, he would you like us to put a all your back catalog and I went well sure that it'd be great. It's nice to have somebody believing me. So all of the albums that I made after I left triumphed they've just digitally released him and then I was sitting around going I. Think you know I still want record and stuff when I was writing tunes in When I in nineteen, sixty, two, I don the Bob Dylan record, it was just called Bob Dylan and it was just a cousteau Qatar voice voices. You know all my years I've never really done a whole album like that. So I'm going to do a project like that. So I put that out on my website and then I I was. Writing a book of poetry and it looks like a publisher wants to make a deal so that I can do book of poetry and a memoir. So it's like one thing led to another thing about to nosing before I. Knew It. I had like a completely full calendar, and now of course you know I'm doing all of this promos on calling you. What is what is strung out troubadours I saw link for that. What is after the newest thing you're doing? Now Strung out troubadours was a thing. There was a guy named Dave Dunlop who played in my band and he actually went try and fly the reunion Gig in. Sweden in an Oklahoma Day was actually in the in the triumph hand as well playing rhythm. Guitar and Stuff. So Dave and I had a little duo thing like a lot of times my touring and got to the point where I was doing a lot of solo stuff I wanted something else and so I use the piano player for a while and then I kinda got the edge to have a little bit more of a rock and roll approach. So two guitars made it a little bit more kind of versatile and so Dave is the guy and we did it for you and then I said, Hey, you know what? We should do an album together and put it out. We can sell it at emerge table, and so that was the birth of the troubadours and we did three albums. and. Yeah Round Hill bought my rights out to those days still has his side of it. He he didn't sell them. So he stands to make some more mechanical royalty. Whatever there is to be made these days, right Yeah. So I wanNA talk to you. I. WanNa ask you some triumph stuff of course but before. But before that, let's let's let me cover the reason you're calling which you mentioned the release of your albums after triumph ended for you and I think rick that people would probably be surprised to learn how many records there are, and there were a lot of people that sort of. Categorized what you did after triumph as being a jazz guitar, but that's not all you did. You really ventured into a lot of different styles. So for people that especially here in America that maybe didn't follow all that closely some of the stuff you did after triumph tell everybody what you did musically, and how many records there are in the different journeys those records took you on. Okay well, you know settle in folks make yourself a cup of coffee. This is a long story. There there was thirteen that round hill made a deal for and they ran the gamut and when I first got of triumph. So a little bit of sort of ancient history here left eighty eight. I actually made three albums for an indie either had a distribution through universal and in Canada. And those sort of started an evolution or You know I don't know a a mutation change from being sort of Iraqi. Guy To kinda be in a singer Songwriter Guy and that took me from eighty nine through to about ninety five six. And then I sort of had enough. I. I was I mean the industry had changed You know the whole thing of being sort of in an arena rock band. It's kind of converted to an MTV banned through the eighties that was dying off and there was the rise of Nirvana and soundgarden and so radio had gone in a different direction and I try and thing just seemed like it was over for me you know so I left made those three records in there and I got to the point where I went. Okay. This doesn't really seem to be working for me either and it's not really why I left triumph. In the first place I just want to indulge myself creatively artistically and I don't care if I make money or not This is not a question of chasing career. This is a question of sort of. Chasing what art in music and the music is is pulling me towards calling me. You know. So I, one was a classical guitar instrumental record next one in very short succession was a blues rock and kind of a thing because really that was like where I cut my teeth when I was first learning electric guitar was the whole Eric Clapton Jimmy Page Jeff Beck thing these guys out of the yardbirds then back into the Chicago Blues and down the Delta all of the you know the the same path that those guys went soon as you discover them, you go back down the path that they did too. So you know And then the next record was sort of top jazz because that was the next thing that happened in my life I went to college for one semester in Jazz Music Program but at the time, I was heavily deeply into everything from west, Montgomery to Charlie bird to Joe Pass and so Yeah you know swinging and that comes on playing blues and so those were the first three records I made real quick

Interview With Susan Park

"Or those of you who are foodies and I know if you don't consider yourself a food, do you like food? Some of our most popular episodes are when we bring on people who own restaurants or who are chefs and my guest today. Is kind of a combination. She's not a chef. She's married to a chef. This is Susan g young park, and she and her husband are the owners of a very unusual Taco place near the campus is called. I think I'm saying this right Revolucionario? Is that correct? Yes, it's a revolutionary on North African Tacos on. At one, four, three, six, West Jefferson, boulevard currently were only open on weekends, Saturdays, and Sundays for pick up orders only from noon till three, and actually I am a chef to learn more. Oh okay. Okay. Yeah. Well, you know, I definitely want to do a deep dive. Into, your establishment. But you know since we're recording this in early May and is still during the whole shutdown, and this is a restaurant I gotta ask you because we'll put this out relatively soon. This episode I have to ask you like, how has it been for you guys with the shutdown with the limited time that you're open. How's that going? It's been very, very asymmetric call. Because I also have. Started a nonprofit at the end of February and a lot of people keep asking me how I knew to start early with the Asian. American. Specific food. Bank. It's because I am an Asian American person. Who? WHO also owns also Asian American owner. And I. My restaurant is near USC SO I. Get to talk to a lot of. Asian, American, and Asian international students. So my restaurant very community driven. So. As an Asian American person business owner and somebody who speaks to Asian American students in Asian international students on a regular basis. You know I could feel the of sacks of you know, the the Wuhan Virus China virus. Right one international news broke in in December, and I can feel it affecting my business to I can feel it affecting my business, my in store business just tanked. I made it by with a lot of lot of catering more because they kept asking my customers helped me out catering orders than. And then a lot of a Chinese American students in particular in Chinese. International. Students who come to my restaurant. Started telling me. They just felt really anxious and they had a feeling of like just more isolated, and also I also do a lot of tenants advocacy work I've been in touch with CCD in. Chinatown. MOM since last year I helped him out occasionally with things at the request as I could see for myself, I mean. Koreatown didn't get hit that bad. Early, a chinatown business in Chinatown just tanked. You know at in December and January some restaurants. It was like ninety nine percent down the streets were empty. There's nobody. And then my friends from the San Gabriel Valley started reporting. The business was down in the San Gabriel Valley. And then it rolled into Korea town. So Koreatown was hit a little bit later. By declining sales and then in my restaurant to. So January usually means like a huge surge in business. And a lot of my customers are international students, not as Asian international students, but international students because my husband is also he's a French born Algerian Berber and Berbers indigent people to North Africa. So we also have a lot of European customers in African customers, and because we're North African Taco restaurant, we also have a lot of Mexican Latin next customers so very international. We hear a lot of news from everybody to because we're, I'm a owner operators on that restaurant every day that it's open. So I'm in touch with just. So many different communities. And just business was just was not picking up and beginning in January I started. Reducing, my restaurant hours drastically because it just wasn't worth it. It just wasn't worth it to old. You know just to get all that going and it was like this is not what any you know So then I started my food bank initiative I started I started my bag initiative before a stylish on nonprofit. Net Song early I. Think I met her Nebi. Rarity. A month after I had started my brown bags for all skid row initiative. Because wins, virus news broke of a mysterious virus mysterious You know that's a scare scare tactic. In China and it's highly infectious in know we live in a global village? and. Experts have been warning about pandemics for a long time and America wouldn't be prepared for one. So my first thought in January was to start my Brown Dad's for everyone initiative for skid row because in an era of pandemic, who do you want to help the most? I, I mean, who should you be healthy? It's the most vulnerable people were most exposed. Then it's going to be homeless in the House to people. And who are the poorest of the poor, the an housed I mean, it's the black residents. Elderly residents are skip Vo. So I, the Brown. Doctrines, round that for everyone initiative really took off fast because the idea was catchy. People could wrap their mind around like Paquito, Brown bag lunch. You know. So I, had neighborhood associations like four hundred members hanging. Why? Why can't all of us do like ten Brown bags? That's four thousand bomb. Gad's already
