How Words Can Help Control You Dietary Choices
"What we say to ourselves impacts how we feel and how we behave. If i am telling myself i can't do something i am believing. I am incapable of doing that. And i can feel like a victim of that situation for example with the the job example that i gave a minute ago if somebody feels like. They can't look for another job. They could feel trapped in that job and they may become resentful however if they believe that they're capable of looking for another job and capable of finding another job then they can work on the ownership that they're choosing to be in that job and it's more important to look at the reason than why they're choosing to be there versus believing that they are being controlled and they have to be there and this applies to anything in your life that could be even in relationships if there's a relationship that isn't healthy for you and you say you know i can't walk away will you. Could you just choose not to. And it's important to look at why you choose not to and again that allows you then to be an owner instead of being a victim and feeling like you're being controlled. There was actually an article published in psychology today this month. That supports this theory and i wanted to share it with you. It says here that there was a study that was published in the journal of consumer research and during an experiment. One group was instructed to use the phrase. I don't to refuse offers of unhealthy food as in. I don't eat fast food while another used the phrase. I can't win. Participants finished the study. They were allowed to grab either a chocolate bar or a granola bar of the i don't group. Sixty four percent chose the healthier option versus just thirty nine percent of the people from the i can't group the study authors suggest that saying. I don't empowered participants by implying that such a decision was there's not imposed on them as fleeting commitments diets. Often fail thinking of a dietary choice as part of who you are however can give them real staying
What if Earth Spun 10 Times Faster?
"What if earth spun ten times faster. I'm pretty sure we didn't earthy question last week. i think we did. Is continent connected. It was well still even though we did that. One just before it had been a while before that what it feels like we haven't done many earthy questions i know feels like a long time to him. Maybe one week is too long for me to not do a question about earth. Marcus herbal object permanence. If i don't see the earth how do i know it exists then. Sincere being snarky bathroom. Why don't you start us when i get so. I looked into obviously the spain. Ten times faster. That's going to change. How long are days and nights are. We're looking to try before before you get too far into it. We just one note. Yes our parameters here. We're basically saying that. The earth is always spinning ten times. Faster not just immediately starting to go ten times faster like an overnight thing to despise of nobody if the earth suddenly started moving ten times faster it is an absolute catastrophic accompany of earthquakes. You know ridiculous strong hurricanes and things Everyone just dies before anything interesting happens. That isn't just immediately apparent of why you don't drastically changed of planets and benz shorter day night cycle really doesn't matter at all. It does not sure does one real short day. No one will be there for the night. So that's the only thing. I want to add before you jump in bed but go ahead. Yes so the first question is you know what are our current days. Like around around the world. So it varies based on where you are in relation to the equator. If you're the equator your days are around twelve hours long all year long. I should look a city in. Ecuador called Kito or i'm not sure which is about sixteen miles south of the equator. And they're the the daytime. Was you know it was from from like twelve hours and five minutes to twelve hours. Eight-match minutes year round. You know so pretty constant twelve hour day tomorrow night for us. We're all around boston on this. Podcast it does fluctuate based on the season so as we're recording this. We're actually just coming up on the summer solstice which is june twentieth. It's obviously already passed listening to this. But on the solstice which is the day where the day is longest shortest The sunrises five of seven. Am sunsets eight twenty four pm. So the daytime is about fifteen quarter hours around sixty four percent of the day on the contrary the winter solstice which is in december december. Twenty first it's kind of the inverse so sunset is our sunrise seven ten. Am sunsets four fourteen pm. so daytime. it's only about nine hours. It's about thirty eight percent of the day so obviously if you have ten times faster days you're going to have started ten times faster rotation of earth. You're going to have days their tenth as long.
COVID: What is the Delta Variant?
"The latest virus variant to grab headlines is called delta. Why are scientists particularly concerned about it josh. Because it's more transmissible and it seems to be putting more people in the hospital. Tanya and it's on the rise all around the globe delta was first spotted in india and spread quickly to seventy four countries in england. It accounts for ninety percent of new cases taking over from the version called alpha. It's got a bunch of mutations. That seem to help it. Get inside human cells and vague. Antibodies that for it. Researchers at public health england found the chances of people passing delta around their households were sixty four percent higher than with alpha. That's a big jump. England had started opening up more recently to couldn't that have also led to more infections in addition to some feature of the variant itself. Yeah there's stuff going on that can heighten the delta numbers people started traveling and businesses and restaurants. Were opening. But the bottom line here is. There's a steep climb in delta cases and delta appears to send twice as many people to the hospital as alpha does. that's severe illness. Such as being unable to breathe. A lot of these people are younger. Underage thirty according to research in the medical journal. The lancet now this isn't all doom even with delta vaccines keep people safe health records in scotland. Show two shots of the pfizer. Vaccine blocked delta infection in eighty percent of people both the pfizer and astrazeneca. Vaccines kept practically everyone. Who got those shots out of the hospital. Early data from england show. So what's this all mean already in the us delta accounts for ten percent of infections. So it's coming. With summer reopenings and people mingling unvaccinated. People could get delta during the next few months setting up ugly fall getting vaccinated. The numbers show is the best route to keeping infections. Down and getting live closer to normal

Advice To Students Applying To College Amid the Pandemic
"So amid all the chaos trauma of the pandemic. What advice do you have enough for students who are applying to college. What should they focus on. And what can they let go lots. I think the main thing that we've been trying to tell our students is in control can Everyone's in the same boat with the pandemic And it's unnerving it's stressful by really just control you can and what you can control is doing a research on your own reaching out to the colleges admissions counselors using the resources that are available for you one of the things that we have done. My school is really encourage students to reach out to the alums of my high school who are at colleges that they wished to attend do. They can't get the flavor in the feel of a college campus because of the shutdowns but having a conversation with a student at went to your high school you may not know them and they can really give you the inside scoop of what. It's like to be there. And so i think just trying to take the open minded Ba flexible our seniors are experiencing that so many more students apply to so many more colleges that a lot of colleges deferral list is so long and so some students have gotten some news that they're not very happy about it. They've been deferred from their top schools. So being patient. I feel like is something that i keep telling my students is that if this really is your top school you just have to wait it out. I think the springs and the be really interesting time. It's hard to tell teenagers to be patient But it really. Is you know. Try to sound that the that the focus on that deferrals that deny you never know Keep moving along. Keep doing your best in your classes. And just let's see what happens. Yeah i agree. I i told him the same thing you know. Focus on what you can control. Take everything day by day. also listened to colleges are saying about how to engage with them because they're definitely getting very creative using being tiktok snapchat and instagram and takeovers. And all these things. The other thing is. Give yourself space to help to plan because there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Tiny tiny tiny as it may be. At the moment we will eventually get through this We will be different people when we get through it but we have to give ourselves the space to help in the space to plan the other thing that i was telling them like. I said listen to colleges. Because they're telling you how to engage with them but they're also telling you what their outcomes are going to be Gave props to. A lot of the colleges were honest whether people like that answer or not that they were going to maximize early decision versus regular decision because they were telling students what they needed to do in order for them to function as a college in an offer them to reach their own goals. Sometimes they can get loss for students and parents that it just think colleges are admitting people for the sake of meeting people. But they don't have to plan for Budget their own budgetary constraints or their own likelihood of survival beyond the pandemic and so early decision is not for everyone. But i have to give props again to those colleges who said if you wanted to be here then. This is what we're telling you. Is i look at the numbers of regular decision applicants that you know so many colleges out there t up like sixty four percent just for early action alone. It's going to be tough and there's going to be a lot of redirection come the spring so we have to be open to that redirection. That offices are going to be conveying those decision letters and you will be redirected to another path. It might not be the that you intended. But it'll be the path that might be the better pass for you in the end of it
Apple had a record quarter in China with the highest ever number of iPhone upgrades
"It's the new year season in china. And it is looking like a happy one. Four phone apple insider highlights and note from j. p. morgan analyst samir chatterjee. He's looking look at numbers from the china academy of information and communications technology and they seem to show good things for apple. According to the data according to the report mobile device shipments rose fifty one percent in china compared to the previous month that was mostly driven by a sixty four percent rise in domestic smartphone shipments and our national shipments primarily composed of apple devices. Also rose seven percent month over month. The piece goes on to say the total number of internationally produced. Smartphone shipments at six point four million units in january twenty twenty one up from six million december and two point five million and january. Twenty twenty this is one of those rare times. When looking month to month is probably better barometer than looking year to year this time last year china was in the midst of its covert related lockdown. Lots of spending on apps not a lot on hardware the way chatterjee sees it the month growth demonstrates continued momentum for iphone start the calendar year. Chatterjee hasn't overweight rating on apple shares. His price target on the shares is one hundred fifty dollars.
Biden pushing new stimulus bill regardless of Republican support
"It is a tale of two parties one's governing and the other star really clear what the other party is doing. Republicans are destroying themselves from the inside consumed with feuds over how loyal they can be to a former president. Who incited an insurrection. And fighting over what actions to take about the dangerous conspiracy spewing congresswoman marjorie taylor green meanwhile democrats want to pass laws and help americans who are hurting from the pandemic today. Joe biden made it clear he will pass his covid relief. Package with or without the support of the other side. A lot of folks are losing hope. And i believe the american people looking right now to their government for help to do our job to not let them down. So i'm going to act and i'm going to act fast. I've told both republicans and democrats. That's my preference to work together. But if i had to choose between getting help right now to americans who are hurting badly and getting drier bogged down in a lengthy negotiation or compromise on a bill. That's up to the crisis this an easy choice. I'm going to help. The american people are hurting now. Economic relief should not be a partisan issue. It's clear people hurting. But why helped. Millions of out of work americans when you can instead. Try to oust liz. Cheney from her republican leadership position because she got a case of morals for a moment and voted to impeach donald trump. There is so little talk of solutions from the gop. There hasn't been talk of it for four years. They're so little. Talk of helping the american people. It's just about them and their petty little internal dramas. They barely have ideas of their own and yet they refuse to endorse solutions. That are broadly supported by the american people. Sixty eight percent of americans support president. Biden's covid relief package. According to a brand new quinnipiac poll. Seventy eight percent are in favour of fourteen hundred dollar stimulus payments even sixty four percent of republicans support the stimulus payments. The white house knows that republicans are on the losing side of this. They even released a video about it. My message to our republican elected officials is to put our country first. And i think there should be a bipartisan effort to step up and try and assist these people and it's imperative act quickly before things get worse. Entered the better gives. A lot of people are hurting and need the relief as soon as possible. So i'm rooting for them. To get that done. Here is far deeper problem at the center of this thing. We don't actually know what republicans stand for anymore. They don't support popular legislation or offer solutions of their own now to be fair to republicans. It's hard to juggle ideas and solutions when your focus is pulled toward a dangerous conspiracy spewing freshman congresswoman from georgia whom you will defend at all costs for some unknown reason marjorie taylor. Green was stripped of her committee assignments this week for indicating support for the execution of prominent democrats with whom she now serves. Seems like a fairly reasonable action. Take but republicans balked. They spent more time talking about how unfair it was to the conspiracy speier than they ever have talked about helping americans in need. What do you stand for if you defend a woman who incites support for political violence. Our next guest democratic congressman jimmy gomez says removing marjorie. Green from committees isn't enough her city and her terrifying effect on the republican party require her removal from congress. According to the congressman but republicans would rather focus on feuds than see the obvious danger of keeping marjorie green or donald trump for that matter in office the very very small group who have condemned marjorie green or donald trump are paying the price republican congressman. Adam kinzer is being censured by illinois county republicans for taking actions quote contrary to the values of the gop contrary to the values of the gop. Senator ben sasse might be censured for the second time by nebraska republicans for not being deferential enough to trump. You are welcome to censure me again. But let's be clear about why this is happening because i still believe as you used to. The politics isn't about the weird worship of one dude. The weird worship of one dude. The republican party is not that familiar anymore. Doesn't have a set of values or principles defends a man who incites an insurrection and defends a woman who supports political violence and it barely utter a peep about the millions. The millions of jobless americans struggling just to survive through no fault of their
Facebook should Not be surprised its groups were overrun with conspiracies
"Last month announced it will stop recommending political and civic groups to its users the company says users want less politics in there feeds and has said it didn't realize how much it's groups we're going to spread medical misinformation be used to radicalize people into on and be one of the home bases for the people who plan the capital insurrection on january. Sixth but this week the wall street journal reported that the company has had in research for months. If not years about private groups being toxic full of calls for violence and still being recommended to facebook users and rene arresthe a research manager at the stanford internet observatory says the shift to groups creates a long standing cycle of radicalization. What was happening. Beginning in two thousand sixteen was you were starting to see these very conspiratorial communities that were taking shape and they were being recommended to people who had interest in other conspiratorial communities. And when you started to have this it was like a correlation matrix. were saying. Oh you're interested in this wild theory while here try this one on again that engagement. Highly engaged communities wildly sensational content high-volume groups and posts really came to in some ways. Become a much more significant part of the experience for people who went and participated in those communities. Is it credible to you for facebook to say. We couldn't have anticipated how conspiratorial these groups were gonna get. No no not at all and that's because there is a wall street journal article that came out last year that said that what the platforms own internal research had showed back in two thousand sixteen was that they were realizing that sixty four percent of people that joined some of what they called more extreme groups were doing it because of props from the recommendation engine for researchers such as myself who were seeing it from the outside we have been very kind of anecdotal sense of the problem. Like right now if you were to go to instagram and follow robert. F kennedy juniors account. You'll see a whole range of recommended accounts that will be suggested to you. That are mostly corona virus. Denial accounts. now. That's the thing that i can see it small-scale but i really don't know if that's a systemic problem or a problem that's anecdotal. How hopeful are you about this move to stop recommending political and civic groups like you know how big a deal do you think it could be to untangle the recommendations from the existence of the groups themselves. I'm not sure that a blanket ban on topics is the way to go about doing this. And facebook has encountered some challenges with the definition of political in other product fronts like ads for example where in order to run advertisements that were related to political issues. You had to go and get yourself verified. Now i think that that's a reasonable amount of friction but the question then became what is a political issue. I think that there are plenty of political groups. That new stay within the realm of healthy behaviors right. They're not being used for organizing violence. The decision to re remove them from recommendations just means that people will have to go and kind of proactively search for them. And i think it'll be interesting to see what impact that has on their growth. I don't think it's a silver bullet though. And then how about the announcement that facebook will require moderators to spend more time reviewing member post like his moderation. A better solution. There's some really interesting evidence from read it. That suggests that the answer to that is yes. Read it really worked to empower moderation at the local level giving tools to moderators at the sub reddit level to make determinations about what norms and values and standards were appropriate for their communities. And so i think improving moderation tools. And then also you know putting the onus on people so that if they create these groups that they don't just kind of you know let them go haywire and then say oh. I just didn't know if you're choosing to form a community it gives us perhaps more of a sense going forward that that that choice is something met. We're going to be expected. To take responsibility for
Why Todays Career Changers with Service Skills Can Find Opportunities Working in Tech
"What are some of the biggest tectonic shifts in the jobs landscape during those past two decades. Where are the opportunities for people now. Just starting to get into tech for twenty twenty one will over the next. Let's say ten years twenty twenty two twenty thirty. There's much faster than average growth expected for. It jobs overall in some of the greatest growth areas are still in the self development cyber security analyst spectrum girl by twenty eight percent over those ten years it support. Thirteen percent sa- last year in twenty twenty there were over eighty two thousand job postings for. It support specialists the number of job postings for it support specialist actually grew by a greater percentage when compared to software developers for example from twenty ten to twenty twenty it support. Specialist job ed's grew by one hundred twenty four percent a lot and compared to software developers. They still grew a lot to quite significantly They grew ninety eight percent ola to period but that was ninety eight percent for software developers versus hundred twenty four percent for support. Are any of those jobs. You think it'd be working from home in the newmarket is most of. It staff guam back into the office. Before i didn't even notice burning glass with track remote work at home opportunities at all in the job ads. And now i noticed they're always tracking it and we're always publicizing those type of numbers. So is that like a new phenomenon. Cova are we really tracking those numbers. Well we started looking at a few years ago and burning glaze his his at data going back to two thousand ten so we saw it trending up a little bit in prior years for example in twenty ten five percent of all. It job postings cited that either remote or work from home compared to last year in twenty twenty jumped to twenty two percent but it was already trending up like grow by one percent from twenty ten twenty seventeen two thousand eighteen eight percent of it. Job postings were remote work from home twenty nineteen there is a pretty big jump even from two thousand eighteen to twenty nineteen to fifteen percent but it was a significant drone from twenty nineteen at twenty twenty. After the pandemic i started it went from fifteen percent to twenty two percent so pretty considerable portion of it job types being worked from home or remote and from member bowls that we've run looks like the majority are considering even going forward still more employees to work remotely. I think that's fairly significant. If more than one out of every five. It jobs a rope from home right now. That's it the the ones being advertised. I should clarify that. Not just the ones in the market but also the ones being advertised that are open for people to get major changes l. Go back to how employees work and access. It wherever it may be from 'cause with that through cyber security concerns Data management in the skills that the. It employees intern need to be able to support all employees because of the effects of the pandemic last year we did see a majority of our member firms. Most of them are technology companies. They were going to continue to invest in technical training for their employees. In some of the top areas there were cybersecurity that was a top area. Sixty four percent of our own member companies. We're going to focus training efforts and cyber security cloud infrastructure and cloud locations technical. It support were the top areas. Were they can expect to see training support for employees. That's good to hear from the members especially because we do our own custom training program with amazon so they do a really good Career program for their own employees where they help pay for the tuition for them to get trained by. Come to you so that they can move from maybe the warehouse floor into. It jobs either. Four amazon or for other companies. Whichever works best for them. We always tell our graduates allowed him to be start on the help desk. You're gonna learn a lot of places where to go with intact but at that point then alive the more forward thinking employers and especially i would hope. It employers would be in that list. They'll help you get the certifications and the training you need in order to keep growing in your career. So it's good to see a lot of our own member. Companies are taking that same philosophy. Yes definitely a lot of different areas to grow into depending on your interest especially Various emerging technologies or save working for a different type of industry. You can really go after what you're interested. In business. intelligence data analysis networking there are gray salary opportunities for someone working in tech or wanting to move into a tuck position for example. The median salary for all occupations as the overall media and mrs according to the us bureau of labor statistics for twenty nineteen they Number was thirty nine thousand eight hundred and ten in so we're looking at just the tick patients. It's much greater median. Salary eighty eight thousand two hundred forty salaries range depending on location of course or companies as irs. Maybe someone's years of experience or The job role if we're looking for example at it support to decisions. The median salary for an it support specialists is fifty two thousand. Two hundred and seventy and that is thirty. One percent greater than the average for all occupations combined

How a 22 Year-Old Company Pivoted During COVID
"Meredith. Welcome to the show. Great lakes wrap very. So how are you doing during covid six months and i can't believe we're six months in. I was saying just six months ago. Oh probably over next month right right. Now we're doing good have left the house really We did mu so. That was a little bit stressful. But all good so tell us about. The salesforce is small and medium business trends report. Why do you do this. And what can we learn from it. Sure we'll be. We just have published our fourth edition of the smb transport where we surveyed twenty three hundred global smb leaders and we actually got a really unique experience this time around because we published one back in march and the pandemic hat. And we're like we got we got. We gotta redo this. We want to get before and after so we just did another survey in august so we have a really interesting perspective of kind of before. And after i wouldn't say after i say now we're not quite after yet right. I guess that's wishful thinking right But during i think you know we're we didn't publish it on salesforce dot com slash. Fm be trends but he wants to see the details but you touches on things like how the pandemic racial injustice have affected motivation. What challenges and gold are happening with. Smb leaders how demographics shape the entrepreneurial experience in the outlook You know the role of digital transformation and driving resiliency in small businesses and really how small business leaders are planning to recover and to grow from that. They're really seven insights that stood out to me the first and not surprising we asked what are the top areas of focus during co bit in back in august sixty. Four percent of our smb leaders said safety and sanitation policies. Like i'm thankful for that to too as consumer next was fifty. Nine percent of leader said local public health mandates contact with service a out of physical space. That's top of mind You know second because we have the before an effort after that. Continue to be challenges. That didn't really change Keeping up with demand Forty seven percent ranked it very high in march forty six said the same in in august providing quality products still challenge on still one of their top challenges. Smb leaders but what was new and what really became more difficult for these three things which was bringing innovative products to market. You see a lot of companies have done so much to the word pivot now is being overused. But you see you know that the stock company now making ppe Howard folks getting innovative in delivering services to homes right versus navy in person You've seen i've seen in san francisco restaurants pairing up with the wine shop and delivering date. Night meals But really getting creative on the market but another area that was personalized customer engagement. I think it's become more important To engage with your customers and that's it became more difficult. You know something. Many small business owners had it really thought about the personalization and then third was the connected experienced How do i stay connected during these times. The thirteen that came out to me. Was you know we we ask. Vod survey respondents. Are you a growing business or you. Can you know Growing meaning our or your revenues growing Those are are growing. Were actually much more likely to offer flexibility to things like payment policies return policy maybe giving extended payment terms instead of paying. You know in thirty days you can pay forty five days but this really highlighted the importance of prioritizing developing a relationship versus a one time transaction about all the time and i think even more so in the last six months has been loyalty right. Returning customers You know the more flexible you are with these customers. Warned loyalty recreate. You create an honest. That's your recurring revenue. Are you wanna find your recurring revenue. The fourth thing. That really came out before you go on. I just want to discuss a couple of elements. Because i don't wanna lose them very important threads. You talked about the personalization of the customer gauge being so important. And we've seen that for a long time. Ever since burger king said you know you can have it your way people want a personalized one on one experience but it really is becoming much more difficult because on one hand you have the personalized experience on the other hand. You have contactless delivery right. So what do you think. Some of the best ways are for small business owners to actually keep that personalized connection with their customers at time. When they're not supposed to be contact lists right. You know i get about knowing who your customer is. And this is where i think. Technology actually can play a huge part. It's a huge advantage to small businesses. There's technology out there. Of course we've got some. But i think there's lots of great companies it's not affordable and it's easy to use but a great crm tool which is customer relationship and a lot of opposites. Don't go searching for a crm. They're like how do i talk to my customers. How do i connect. This is about putting the customer in the center of everything you do. And you want to get off spreadsheet or off the piece of paper and you know you as the owner of the business may know mrs smith very well. She has two dogs. she likes to be. How Your Social Media Is Keeping You From Getting Hired
"So hiring managers are checking you out on social media. And I want to reveal to you some of the things that they are doing and things that they are looking at. So that you are aware. This is a great article from ladders. I contribute to ladder CY write a column from ladders on a monthly basis. Great. Great Great Resource for you the American worker survey of nearly a thousand people conducted by hosting website who is hosting this dot com found that nearly one in ten workers have already experienced their social media persona being used against them in the workplace. With more than half of the respondents reporting that they feared their online content. Could. Be. Used against them. Twenty two percent of respondents. Who are in a hiring position hiring others? Admitted to not hiring people based on their online content. Photos. Were at the top of employers concerned lists. Sixty six percent of managers admitting. That a photo. dissuaded. Them, from hiring. Someone. Followed by text posts sixty, five percent. Videos and audio recordings from the employees perspective. The most popular situation in which they've had online content you against them. was there discussion with peers such as friends forty, seven percent you said something to your friends Either in the workplace or somewhere else they do their homework and your friends is my kids like to say read it on me. Loose lips sink ships remember that old phrase. Anybody under the age of thirty s going, I have no idea what Kim's talk about. Thirty seven percent. A significant other. Their discussion with a significant other, and then with family members twenty, six percent. So. Again. I've hit that that trump pretty hard here. Careful what you say folks. Here's what people forgetting about. Just because a website becomes obsolete doesn't mean the content you've posted disappears. On personal devices such as laptops and cell phones sixty three percent of us. Reported never deleting photos the most popular spots. Here are some of yesterday's top social media sites that you still have inactive profiles on and maybe some stuff that doesn't put you in the best light my space sixty, nine percent photo bucket nine, percent blogger sixty, four, percent flicker sixty, three percents tumbler, fifty, nine percent. So. Here's the deal. The article goes on to say how to keep a clean I got news for you. Number One if you've done. said. And posted things you've done and said that are boneheaded or even just mildly questionable meaning your great grandmother. would she be slightly concerned about it? Would it bother her may current comfortable? That's a good rule of thumb. Remove it. And then don't do it again, remove it. And don't do it. Stop doing boneheaded things and posting things that if a potential employer saw, you would feel like. I don't want to see that. Don't explain it away stop doing clean it up.
Where is everyone driving?
"I recently saw a graph showing astounding rebound and gasoline demand returning almost a pre Kobe levels after a forty percent drop in April I just want to stop in the middle of this because I love it. So much I recently saw graph is not sentence like that is not the way that most people start sentences but here the indicator. So many sentences with I recently. Graph and we awesome you're like we've got to take this question whatever comes next we're in that's the indicator tuna. ANYWAYS, here's the rest of Jeff's question about why demand for gasoline is recovered so much after that huge drop in April with so many office workers still working from home many schools still online and airline demand way down how can this be anecdotally the roads do seem more crowded where's earlier going thanks thanks Jeff. So the most recent data we have shows that total vehicle miles traveled on roads and. Streets. So that's cars and trucks in July that was about eleven percent lower than the vehicle miles traveled in July of last year. So driving is still way down but jeff is right. That's nowhere close to the forty percent down that it was an April people are driving more than they were in the months right after the pandemic. So okay I mean as jeff put it like here's everybody going. We can't know where everybody's going, but we do have this one big clue with simply that more people are commuting to work again in May still early in the pandemic forty, eight percent of workers were commuting to work at least one day a week. But as the economy many places reopened and millions of people who lost their jobs were rehired by August it was back up to sixty four percent of people were commuting. That's all according to a monthly survey by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and also it is. Definitely true that there are more people working from home every day now than before Cova two and a half times more in fact but that same survey found that even now it's still only about twenty percent of workers. Now, that's a lot but it is still way fewer than the sheriff workers who commute to a workplace each week. So we can't say for sure where everybody's driving these days but we suspected a big part of the answer is to work people are driving to work. That's where everyone's going to work.
What is the 64-4 Rule and Why You Need to Start Leveraging It with Dennis Brown
"A welcome back everybody in day we have a solo episode I. Hope You're not upset it's just me I'm flying solo today but unless you've been living under a rock, most everyone has heard of the eighty twenty principle. So we're gonNA talk about today. But what we're GONNA do is we're going to put the eighty twenty principle on steroids jacket up we're GONNA, put it on steroids to give you even more significant impact on your business. So the short version of the PARETO principle says that eighty percent. Of Your facts come from twenty percent of your causes. Now, when I I read that it was kind of confusing but here's how it translates in a business context. Okay. Because we're here on the growth experts podcast though that's what we talk about businesses in growth right? So let me transition into more of a business conversation. You've probably heard the phrase eighty percent of your results come from twenty percent of your activities or maybe you heard eighty percent of your profits come from twenty percent of your customers. Or maybe you've even heard that eighty percent of your sales come from twenty percent of your sales people. Now, those are just a few. Here's a couple of more they may resonate with you eighty percent of your leads come from twenty percent of your marketing, and the last one of them to share with you unfortunately is that eighty percent of your customer complaints come from twenty percent of your customers. So it makes sense right? Because the fact is not all customers, prospects, sales, people, or even business related. Activities are equal. Therefore, we shouldn't try to treat them as equal right. This means that if you identify the twenty percent and then you focus in double down on those twenty percent of activities, you can see huge dramatic improvement in your productivity and even in your sales. All right. So again, hopefully you're not confused but if you are let me add your confusion now really I'm hoping that I can clarify this by the end. But what I'm about to do is put this eighty twenty principle on steroids all. Right so for example, we know that eighty percent of our profits come from the top twenty percent of our customers. What if we peel the onion back one layer more and did the math again, right. So if we applied the eighty twenty rule to the eighty twenty rule that we've already applied, right so this would equal sixty four percent of our prophet coming from the top four percent of our customers. So let me just walk you through that again again, if it's your applying the eighty twenty rule. To the eighty twenty rule, twenty percent of twenty that's four, and if you do eighty percent of eighty that sixty four. So I'm not very good at math in, it's not an exact science, but that's the basic framework of what we're doing. So think about it after you identify your top twenty percent of customers or better yet you apply the the sixty four four rule and you identify the top four percent of your customers that are generating sixty four percent of your prophet imagine creating a profile of. What each of those groups looks like what each of those customers look like right or prospects or whatever it is that you're you're leveraging here for the eighty twenty rule and focusing all of your sales and marketing efforts towards those potential clients that most closely match that profile I mean it's pretty amazing. How by simply focusing on the right activities on the right customers can have a huge impact on your business. So I decided to share this quick nugget with you today because I truly believe even if. You apply the eighty twenty rule, but even more. So if you apply the sixty four rule that we talked about today I, think it can have a huge impact in many areas of your business, including increasing sales, increasing prophet, increasing, productivity, identifying, and fixing problems within your organization and even improving your overall customer service experience.

"To forgive college loan debts. Melinda. Thought it was an awesome idea. Yeah. All right. Do I have that wrong? You have that wrong. I hate to correct. You are wrong. I just I can see how people do think, it's an awesome idea. Because when you just hear, oh, it'll just be the rich paying for it. It won't affect anybody. That doesn't make over however, many millions. They were going to say is wrong. I mean that sounds great. But it's not gonna work that way. And then on top of it. I'm a little insulted. I paid for school. Well, the Harris polling group has been asking Americans and sixty four percent support. The Elizabeth Warren plan forgive all of the college loan debt, and they say you can find support in every demographic even fifty two percent of Republicans say they support this plan sixty percent of Americans who identify as males support it sixty seven percent who identify as females support the Elizabeth Warren college forgiveness plan somehow. It's no surprise. I'm on the outs of that. Always on the outside of all of these were the only one is. I remember that day every texter in I think every caller was opposed to it. Am I right on that? Well, you are because of the same reasons that we say that a how are you going to get the wealthy to to do this once they figure out the loophole in the system they're going to use it and put their money elsewhere. So that they don't have whatever the I can't even remember the mount was that you had to be above for them to tax to most of the tax that came in most of the calls that came in spoke to well, are you going to refund the back the money I paid when I went to college, and that's not part of the plan. No that is not part of the plan. And I understand why you can get sixty four percent of Americans to support this. It sounds great. When you say re are going to send you to college for free and the wealthiest of the wealthy or going to pay for it. So I will never feel the pain of this only enjoy.
