COVID In Philadelphia: Health Commissioner Says 'It's Likely' Some Fans Could Attend Phillies' Home Opener

"1st That is the one of the most optimistic forecast yet from Philadelphia's health commissioner and his cable I W. City Hall bureau chief Pat Lobe reports. Clearer sign of improvement in the city's covert 19 situation. Health Commissioner Tom Farley says new covert 19 cases are averaging 219 a day Now. That's an 80% drop since the peak in late December because he believes is not the vaccine. Not enough people have received it more likely reflects the pattern followed by other respiratory viruses where they peak in the winter, and then they get better in the spring and summer. So it's a sign that things will be getting better in the spring and summer. Even better. Still, as the vaccination coverage increases over time, the city is given 174001st doses so far in nearly 89002nd toast. And that's climbing daily with more places to get the vaccine opening up. All of this has the city looking at the restrictions that expire this weekend and considering which can be lifted. Doctor. Farley says There are no guarantees, but a limited number of fans in an outdoor stadium should be feasible. He's less optimistic about fans at Flyers and Sixers games indoors, he said that would take state action. Hat lobe K Y w News radio.

"There could be fans in the stands for the Phillies home opener April. 1st is one of the most optimistic forecast yet. Filled up his health commissioner and joining US cable to be City Hall bureau chief, Pat Lobe and Pat certainly good news that fans have been waiting for. Yes, And this is all because of more good news on the city's covert 19 situation. Not enough people have received it yet, but it's a sign that it's following the same pattern as other respiratory viruses where they peak in the winter, and they get better in the spring and summer. But the health commissioner says with things improving this way, there could be fans in the stands for the Phillies film opener. Now he's received requests from other teams to see a fence can begin. Tol attend games in person and for the indoor games. That's different because Dr Tom Farley, The commissioner says that the state really has control of that The city can't be less restrictive than the state. Marc discusses his new book "Except for Palestine: The Limits of Progressive Politics" with his co-author Mitchell Plitnick.

"Mitchell. Good to see you man. Of course i see you all the time because we not only wrote this book together but we are now going around talking about this book all the time that we are in. So this is kind of a weird podcast. Because i'm sort of interviewing you. And i'm kinda just talking to you about a book that we wrote together so it's a strange strange thing to do. I've never done an interview like this before. But we're going to figure it out but before we talk about the book. Let's talk about the coffee. I in honor this momentous occasion in drinking arabic coffee you know what they say in palestine they call it Who out. Be it kind of black arabic coffee in. Who said lack coffee. You know people say you know. It's the turkish method. We could have a whole other conversation about what that means. But basically it's a coffee that has made unfiltered with finely ground coffee beans. I mean if ground selfies glenk cocoa powder and then they're boiled in a special pot and then some people put sugar and cardamom and all that stuff. But no i do. It said that. I do it black and it tastes good. It's powerful and it keeps me awake now normally. I'm much more boring with my coffee. So i don't wanna make you feel intimidated by my coffee preferences. The way i do with my basketball preferences taping is a sixers fan of you being nets fan. But i will ask you. What of coffee user. Well these days you know. Mostly just. I'm actually i kind of ended spectrum because i'm drinking. I'm drinking usually a blog roast. It's got a little bit of sleet near ended a little bit lighter in it. So it's almost on the but i will say whenever i go over to palestine and israel and to the region. I always drink the copy answered. Yes there's all the way to have it so i i need to. I need to get one of those little machines. So i can have that here too. I actually bought one in jerusalem and it was taken from the airport Years ago. So i wanna get another one mailed to me from somewhere in the middle east and i make sure you get one. That'd be awesome and the great thing about coffee by the way in the middle east and especially among the palestinians is even if you say you don't want coffee today if you spend time with anybody. You're going to drink some coffee. You go to someone's house. You're drinking coffee noon. You're drinking coffee. Come just have a cup of tea. The best you might get outta them. Is it the electric drink. Some tea as an alternative. You ain't going in the white house or having any kind of real meaning without coffee and probably eating eating eating something to so one of the great things about this. That was the mistake. I made the first time i ever went over there and i was over at a palestinian home. Well it wasn't a home. It was actually an outside just outside jerusalem and it was in a garbage dump and they were living and and abandoned Train car and they come out with food and give me fluently giving me food and it was actually at that time i was just no i mean they. They had nothing you know. My immediate inclination was right to say. No no no you keep this for yourself by. They were insistent. No no no you. Are you drinking this d. You are taking this food and my host. Who was with me. Who was bringing me around at that time. This is going back. Years is bringing me around at that time. He just said yeah. You're you're gonna take it. They're not gonna let you go without without eating and drinking so i had a very similar experience. I was in amer which is a for those who knows is kind of. It's not far outside of jerusalem and its reading between to kind of jerusalem in in these settlements and this is again. This is a big win like a village. It's set for demolition at the time. They made a school like tires in mud. People are worried about losing everything. And i'm talking to them about what's going on and at about fifteen minutes into just painful story about loss and being poor and trying to find money. They come out with the coffee pot and coffee. Particularly in palestinian society in many ways is one of those is one of those mechanisms for creating community for joint love of offering care and it makes people feel good to be able to offer that it's part of what it means in community so i'm glad we could talk about that is actually the most. We've talked about coffee coffee which is kind of fun. We have episode on that but talk to me about this book. People are asking. Why write a book on palestine except for palestine the limits of progressive politics. I guess the first thing. I should get you to talk about because i'll let you talk more than me. Today is why this book. Why why did we do this. Mitchell so just to give your listeners a little back on that you and i met actually over there for the first time when the foundation released piece where i was working at the time a trip for some journalists. And you're one of them and we went over there and you know we just started talking and it was a couple years later that we started talking about doing this book and as i recall it was actually a question. We were sure where what we were going to write about. We went through a whole process. Thinking about it at i. I can certainly say for me. And i feel like we came to this together that we came to this place where you know what's really important right now for us as americans to say to other american we we. I feel like what we're doing here is we're talking to our people like riley and so that's not that's americans progressives and saying the we can get together on a whole lot of issues and somehow we're not getting together nearly enough i mean there's we know of course we have our own little palestine sound already community or the peace community whatever the various different sort of shades are but you know on the whole like sort of liberal america progressive. America is not together on this issue. In fact we it sharply divided. And i know it seems to me and i'm pretty sure seems to to that. Vision is based on people who are willing to really dig deep into their own principles and decide that they can put this aside for palestine because of this reason to that sometimes it's compelling reasons know it can be the history of of jewish suffering it can be or it can be less compelling reasons if less valid reasons sort of just a sense of islamaphobia or just sort of fear of arab people brown people it can be good or bad reasons but liberal progressive. People should not have any reason to put their principles decided on this issue. I think that was to me. That was what this book was meant to speak to say. Look there's room for differences of opinion on a lot of things but principally we should all be able to agree. That palestinian should have rights the same rights as israelis and everyone else and it doesn't seem like we do agree on that. So i i think for us who are both you know. Not palestinian not israeli. Both american i think for me that was the most important thing we could try and really break open for folks and i think this book and certainly from the response. We've been getting so far. Seemed like we're doing

"The the Clippers are would be an interesting case study for those with five or six years where they couldn't quite put it all together. And I wonder if it's if it's doc as in a couple of bility off the video. Yeah, I think a lot of it last year is kind of. To a certain extent as take some blame of what Honda Clippers performing a bubble but I mean really I think outside of the Celtics situation. I think the primary issue has been a chemistry thing, which I don't know how much the coach plays a role in to wage. Well these guys Luna Court but when you have guys like in the bubble where or with the bubble Clippers where you have Kauai admission all of that time before the pandemic came about how ol gyro manager as well. And then with the Clippers, we know what kind of assist show that was in a locker room. So the combination of the two I think as to how bout performance level was on the court. Okay, interesting point German. I think that with Doc Rivers were just going to have to have this we have to go to this playoff series and take a look at how he handles adjustments because I think but most coaches I think that light went boom boom Hozier. I think Nick nurse is a good example of this whereas in their title a title run you see Nick nurse make in certain adjustments that most coaches wasn't making same thing with coaching. I am making calls name right now. So I'll transfer sure. Yep. Sure. Most email is he was making adjustments during their playoff run as well. It's been a couple of years and maybe my memory is fuzzy, but I don't recall a Doc Rivers necessarily doing that long. So like let's say last year whenever the Clippers and Nuggets playoff series any continuously have Montrezl Harrell out there. Now you can make the argument and say hey, I'm sure my Situation's players play Above themselves and they show you something that we didn't think they had but after a certain amount of time you can look and say okay. It's just not good for us to have Montrezl out there playing up against jokic when zubac was actually doing fairly decent. He was just getting into foul trouble but he was doing considerably better than Montrezl. So I think that we got really happy to take a Sim City a seat back Watchdog Rivers investments in the playoffs. And then from there we can really judge and see what correction this team is going through going to because regardless of sim Shooting regardless of Joelle embiid's health or whatever if Doc Rivers isn't making the necessarily necessary adjustments and not holding players accountable. I think now we're going to be happy in every year what the Sixers can be a championship team. But there are certain things that have to go their way that they got have to work on..

Brooklyn Nets' Kevin Durant won't travel to Philadelphia, may sit multiple games due to contact-tracing protocols

"Who tested positive for the coronavirus leaves his immediate status with the Nets Uncertain. ESPN reporting the KD not traveling to Philly for tonight's showdown with the Sixers. Durant only played 19 minutes in and out of the lineup in Friday's 1 23 1 17 lost to the Raptors, basically as we were going out on the court coaches so few minutes before 10 Durant was scratched from Steve Nash is starting lineup when word came down before the game about this person's inconclusive covert test. Then, once the MBA clear Durant, he was available from late in the first quarter through early in the third until everybody found out that this person did. In fact test positive. The MBA said that the rant has tested negative. Durant tweeting his frustration to the league Friday night, James Harden wondering what's up negative. You know, so I don't understand what the problem is. If that was the case, the game should have been postponed. I feel like if we're talking about contact tracing, he was around all of us. How Joel Embiid Became An MVP Contender

"Also derek. Last season ended in pretty disappointing. Fashion for philadelphia. That'll do it. The boston celtics move on by defeating the seventy sixers. Four games to nothing. The first ever went wrong in that first round against boston for embiid and the sixers. I think a bunch of things went wrong. First of all. You can't start without saying this. Ben simmons zone. Outside of that sort of what went wrong was wrong with the sixers all year. The team didn't fit well yet. Al horford and josh richardson. Who were tough it's around a post op center and embiid. Richardson shooting for three ended out. They didn't have a real reliable second often times during the series alec. Burks was your secondary options on offense recipe. Brad stevens and the celtics and bead romeo leg for the rookie thinking about double vacates birds. Who can't make them pay. So there is a lot of mistakes that were made roster building and there were missing. Simmons isn't it was a tough series for sure. Can you remind us what the narrative was after that first round exits surrounding joel embiid and his performance. Yeah it was fascinating because on one hand when they came back into the bubble they had spent pretty much those months in between working with you all to get better at handling dull teams and it came out in the bubble in orlando during the seeding games and some of that had started to show and he looked like he was handling double teams better and he came out against the celtics. And i think that he converted back a little bit in terms of struggling with the double team and bead backing down ties gordon hayward on the help and they come up with the steel but he was dominant as an individual score. That was locked off and be. Did it again. Safe focused joel. Fb five of seven. Give him thirteen of his team's thirty one. We'll lifesaver on that. So i think a lot of people looked at you made steps. He did most of what he could do individually. He just didn't have enough help around him. Well that disappointing end to a long season led to a number of changes within the sixers organization. Can you take us through. Some of the moves that philly made in the off season and how they related to unlocking the better performances from joel. Embiid is off the front office. Obviously brought daryl morey To work above. Elton brand and then they brought in doc rivers replace brett brown and then you had some pretty key addition to traded al horford for essentially danny green. And then josh. Richardson for steph curry. And i think those two editions have been pretty big with joel. Because i think if you look either trade you'd say the sixers got the lesser talent but the fit and just having to players in curry and green. Who the other team can't leave has been huge for. Joel shoe autom- double wall and pass. And you miss accomplish you. Miss a lot of shots You just straightening and then you start thinking of all you gotta do everything by yourself. 'cause everybody's not made the shots. Richardson horford they were not only inconsistent shooting. If they are unwilling shooters and they'd hesitate any office. Which is kinda come grinding down to a halt not only is curry making his shots and all these green making his permanent shots. But the ball is moving around the perimeter. Much quicker than it was. So there's more consequential doubling joel embiid than there ever has been monarch got a lot of assists but Ogle gets one us open. Invite double or triple team has a lot of hockey else's shake milton hinton to downtown ten points and ten minutes off the bench make no mistake that play which about drawing the double and then the ball moving east gotta be willing to be content. That the ball's the swing opposite and he's gonna creative for shots teams are now left with a real choice whereas before i think the whole strategy just send you all need help and disguise it a little bit senate in different locations but if you send it frequently enough you're going to confuse joel embiid or the sixers aren't going to have the talent or the players to make him pay. I think that's changed now.

John Chaney, Hall of Fame Temple Basketball Coach, Dies at 89

"Many are remembering Hall of Fame basketball coach John Chaney, whose with Temple University from 1982 to 2006. Cheney died after a short illness 17 and see Double eight tournaments. Five elite 8 516 wins a temple 741 in his coaching career. But more importantly, he was a mentor. To many. Chaney was obviously a big deal in Philadelphia. New Sixers head coach Doc Rivers admitted he didn't know Cheney well but respected him very much Every time you talk to him every time you heard him talk, it wasn't just about basketball. It was my principles by teaching is about learning. You know, it's what a coach should be. When you think about it. A coach in the dictionary is a teacher. I think John Jenny epitomize that as much as you want. John Chaney was 89, which he just turned nine days ago.

"Season but moving forward in can this be a one two combination and still plenty of time to figure some things out. But i think he can say it potentially can work because brandon ingram as expanded his game so much that he doesn't just stay one spot you know. He's out on the perimeter. Sometimes he's got that shot. He's sitting up staying nights. I think you were talking about day. That sort of spinning assist had add to lonzo ball where he likes large through two defenders. And then just flicked it out to lonzo. Ball's a beautiful plight so lots of good signs. After the new orleans is still not ready to compete for a championship by any means yet. But you can sort certainly say that this is a combination that could work for them going forward. They should have won. This game is by. You got punch loss. Let's let's be honest as much as we want to. Give the pacers credit for pulling it out. Pelicans handed it to them. Really stephen adams had nice rebound highlight in this going nuts hitting the offense of boards and overtime time to watch good rebound so good game you go back at least catch the highlights. That one pacers pelicans all right. Let's keep it going here. Jaanus scores forty three was the bucks beat. The pistons won twenty five one fifteen lee. The bucks started hit the threes jaanus looking like that. Mvp like on us. What what's your other takeaways. We needed to see something like that for me. Honest way. I thought he modifying sixty footsteps record. There were set earlier because basically honesty. What is this game was over at half-time janas did whatever one thirty one or thirty. Something like that. Yeah and a lot of those were just like inside the paint or just basically nothing the pistons could do to stop without blake griffin again. Missing that game. Been the pistons where they're a tough team to watch the best time it was one really cool highlight though here from janas. I don't know if you saw it where it was a from an end of out of bounds play and someone throughout the year. We often say that but he uses left hand that gigantic left hand to catch it. Just throw it down and you know we. We haven't seen quite like a freakish play from your honest for awhile and well. That's not super freakish. It just again shows how How long and al athletic he is to just get that in the one hand palm with his hand and just throw down the dunk from any bands. Play so i thought that was. That was cool. Not much else really in this game To look at the pistons were never really chance. The bucks though pretty dominant victory i i think the final score was maybe only ten or fifteen point. Yeah but this guy was well and truly ever at halftime and now it's something for the box again just to start to build to to show that they are the best team in the eastern conference. We haven't seen that really up until this point. Yeah anything to add to this one. Trae what do you think of these bucks blue jerseys. Cno's in action. i. I don't like them wearing blue. I don't know what it is. It's weird to talk yourself into it being the bucks wearing blue. But i remember election night back in november. See in milwaukee flip. Wisconsin blue as the votes came in with the pfizer forum open for voting saw for it go wearing blue wave jerseys and a blue wave year fine by me. Yeah make sure if you're listening in georgia here vote today. Got the runoff today. January fifth right final game guys. Five games one thing from each one in beads double double leads the seventy sixers past the hornets. One eighteen one philly now six and one best record in the league. Trae what's your takeaway. This was not a fair fight. For the seventy sixers. We're talking about joel. Embiid and dwight howard versus biz. Mac biondo and back up five. Pj washington who is not a huge man. Fourteen offensive rebounds for the sixers eighteen. Second chance points. Sixty four points in the paint for philadelphia skeets. You mentioned yesterday. My dad requests the trade. I wasn't getting enough touches. I followed up with him after the show yesterday. I should dead would you. What's the team trade me. If i wasn't playing he said interesting question. What's behind it and explained to him. The dad mags situation kings. Marvin bagley dad started tweeting. He wanted the kings the trade him because he wasn't getting enough minutes knowing the situation. My dad's i wanted to do something like that when you were at nba. Personally i wanted you to have more airtime. You turn on his show sometime in the next couple of weeks. And i'm not here because i'm playing backup big or the charlotte hornets. They need some guys out there. Just to bang bodies because honestly watching embiid and dwight howard just throw people out of the way to dominate inside. What are you supposed to do if you're the hornets those are the games. You wanna see from joel. Embiid where he just goes out you know. He has an advantage and he is to his advantage. Sixers look exactly like everybody has wanted the sixers since embiid and simmons really came onto the scene looks good so far. I like though that they're saying all the right things to discuss this six and one record. They're basically we haven't really played anyone yet. They're sort of saying that we've had pretty easy schedule. And we're getting the win taking care of business. Okay but we got bigger plants than than starting winning six games. We want to win a championship. I liked that like that vibe coming from this team and you can only play in beat. Who's in front of you on the schedule..

"That retweeted it, right? Yes. Yeah. Yeah, that's cool. I can't imagine like, you know, I know you know do some Tatum or like the you know, they get a lot of the attention but it's right. I mean cuz what does he took years old? Am I saying negative? Nope, nothing's too. Yeah. I mean God that is so hard I mean and maybe you can see his dad on T. Right. So they're sort of that connection. Obviously they can FaceTime but like I don't see your kid for six weeks, you know, it's I mean the grant hasn't been that long. But anyways, I'm glad the families are are joining. But like we said, I don't know if that is going to be it's a little bit of Mayhem when it comes back positive test over under on Campbell games played. So basically we said knew he wasn't going to play Washington we knew he wasn't going to play the Nets was he going to play in the six other games over under 5 and 1/2. I think we both took the under right I think and he he played six. He averaged almost exactly twenty five minutes a game. You know, I'll give you the quick breakdowns of the six games. He played dead. 19 minutes 22 minutes 26 minutes 23 minutes 32 minutes and 28 minutes got to be feeling pretty good. If you're Campbell if you're the Celtics, yeah the dog only are the minutes looking good there the fact that he only had one real stinker in those six games. I think it's important because while we've seen, you know, the physical component with him in the needs always moving looks pretty good from the start and all these scrimmages, but when you're heading into the postseason so quickly, you can't really just be trying to figure it out in the fly as with your conditioning you need to be able to help right away and granted he doesn't have to be 25 points for this team anymore works out pretty well in that front, but he's hitting threes and he's being efficient so long you put those two things together. He's he's probably going to be the third option for this team most games in the postseason and that's perfectly fine. That's all they might need them to be. Oh, by the way, I was going to say for yeah, I mean with these games have it should be four and he's going to have his games on camber, you know, there might be one or two days or three games over the course of this run no matter, you know, regardless of or depending on how long it goes for but there will be games work ethic. Kemba is Kemba and takes over but I think for the most part he is dead kind of the fourth option and as a lien really think that's how the Celtics operate you know, but I just think when it comes to looks when it comes to just volume, I think that that I was going to to drop below Gordon not I'm okay with that it this the Sixers matchup might change things in that front and she can really eat up their bags in the pick-and-roll if they drop back because that's his bread and butter the pulled three if it's falling obviously, but it is Where you look at who's been the best at getting to the hoop right now like Hayward Brown Tatum. Those guys are ahead of camp on that front..

"Thirty. Today's opening tip the Lakers Ted low Wayne as one of their virtual courtside fans last night he tried to remind five it only went okay and. See courtside at the Laker game because we got some suggestions up on the screen. Goal seen. What's leg Jimmy Go? You. got that right what a decade ago I said hide a little way into the game. He said man call me. Easy. gave it. That exchanges so perfect I can't even follow it up. Welcome to the job I'm Rachel. Nichols joined by our Front Office Insider Amino Hasson and live from the Kobe two-time New York. Times. Bestseller. Brian Windhorst. Up that means, this is going to be a good show coming up with Lebron. James Out. Tonight. Russell Westbrook questionable tonight who will score more points, Anthony Davis or James Harden stick around for a little jump ball. But I let us update everyone on the big story of the day Ben. Simmons the sixers announced that he suffered a partial dislocation of his kneecap yesterday he is for the time being treatment options are being considered Brett Brown said today that the sixers will have a better sense of what timeline they might be following for Simmons over the next twenty four hours. So Brian, what's your reaction to this news? Go. Branko say I gotta say This is just what what occur season this has been for the sixers just since October it seems like they can't get going and this is such a setback Brett. Brown just talked about this a little while ago and was just really upset by now, this injury. It's not the worst injury you can have. It's not good. There have been guys who have missed ten days with this injury. There have been guys who have missed two months this injury. Doesn't necessarily mean that he's out for a long period of time. But at this point, any setback is tough especially when all star player. Yeah the injury. Red What my buddy just stops. One of the foremost injury experts at industry on twitter and he talked about the sub location and basically dip received a kneecap. This location is the structural damage that happens around it. If it reverts back in, there's not a lot of structural damage. It can be mild like Brian said Alan Crab this year missed eleven days with the same. Type of injury if there's more structural damage though then you might miss a lot of time in the case of Andrew Bynum about twelve years ago he was supposed to miss eight weeks ended up missing the entire rest of the season when he got hurt in January. So it really depends on the the the extent of the damage around the Patella. But here's the deal. Rato. They've got to find a way to continue to be productive without him. You can't hang your head he's not going to be available. So now the next man up mentality luckily for them I think might be some opportunities there. Well look constant discussion is how do Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons played together right? Well, sometimes, they were forced into a situation where that's no longer an issue that has happened right now and Joel, embiid dropped thirty points last night leading sixers to a win even after Simmons, left the game in the third quarter and beat averaging thirty three points per game in the bubble third highest of any player since the restart. So without Simmons, normally on any team I, mean if you said, you'RE GONNA lose one of your top two all stars it's huge blow but with this unique situation with the sixers. Simmons Injury mean, for Joel embiid. Here's the weird thing about the sixers. Obviously he's a Simmons is a big party is one of the best defensive players in the League he's their primary playmaker one of the best playmakers in the League but what you're referring to Rachel is floor balance and the more balanced lineup and more shooting out there, and in some ways that can be a more cohesive unit around Joel embiid you can use him as facilitator more. I. Think he's an excellent passer who needs to get more touches at the elbow to make place for other people and so now because Simmons isn't on the floor, there's a world of opportunities that normally are available when the two of those guys are together. The other thing is they have a really quality player to step in their Al Horford most likely going back in to power forward, and while Horford, has been up and down this year in the bubble when Al Horford played with Joel Embiid, the sixers have seen good things. The other thing is their first round. Possible opponent is the Celtics. The Celtics have difficulty defending big men. It is the weakness of their roster. We've seen it in this bubble and Joel embiid is going to get the ball a lot. So if you're going to switch to an offense to prepare for the Celtics, you might as well spend the next seven to ten days feeding Joel The ball and Joel wants that ball he has made it clear. He thinks the offense should run through him anyway while now he's going to get his opportunity and who knows. This may be actually something that sets them up for their series with the Celtics until Ben Ben Simmons may be returned from this injury and I want to be clear. The sixers are not a better team without Ben Simmons. He is an important integral part of their operation, but it is a weird situation with their two superstars sometimes thriving without each other and that is with Joel embiid. We'll have a chance to. Do, all right I want to move on design Williamson. He's been in the spotlight for how the Pelicans have been managing his minutes in the bubble. They are playing right now and guys he is twenty points in sixteen minutes. He's averaging eighteen minutes over the PELICANS. I three games playing in as many as twenty five minutes in the last game. So they're actually against the Kings I. WanNa get you some highlights here. Take a look Zion getting the start and his first bucket with Dr. Go ahead big, Fella No. No. My my by. Hitting one of his many three so far in the game and then Zion with the dime to derrick favors second quarter we are Darren Fox with the alleyoop to on Jeffries. Guan. Okay. The euro, the dish, and then who else Zaylon with the drive. All right. So Brian How many minutes do things Zion play in this game you've been talking for the last few days that the Pelicans do have a plan. So they went fifteen minutes, fifteen minutes they were going to go more, but it was a blow out and then twenty five minutes where this now fourth game, how many minutes do you expect?.

"Here Phoenix with TJ McConnell, the Sixers guard at one of these pre draft workouts all the NBA teams are here. Bunch of college guys working out for them teach you. How are you? Man. I'm doing great. Thanks for having me. And how are you? I'm great. So you had a great pre draft coming out of Arizona. Did you even have your with ACTA gone? So you probably did the agent combine right this and everybody's there. And then you're wondering is anybody even paying attention to me, or even like today, I'm watching there's a lot of players who probably aren't draftable and it's like it's kind of tough to watch because the guys who can seem out of the corner of their eye and Harley paying attention. Yeah. It's really stressful. I kind of know what these guys are going through. And you know, you know that thought creeps into the back of your mind, because, you know all these guys are checking the draft board seeing if their name slips up into something. You know, you wanna kind of have a good workout kind of impress these guys in. I'm here to tell you, if you have a great workout, it probably doesn't matter, you just got to kind of do things, the right way and hope the kind of chips fall where they may. And that's kind of what happened with me. I mean I thought I had a good pre Jeff process. And you know unfortunately didn't get drafted. I think some teams wanted to draft me and kinda send me overseas. I didn't really want to start over and cut a better myself and it worked out with the Sixers. You made the absolute right decision. Was there any part of you though, we just wanna be able to say I was drafted? Saw go along with that. Did you have to be talked out of that? All or you knew that was a bad idea. Yes. So there was part of me. I'm not going to I sat there. All my friends and family were around and just watch the draft. And, you know, a part of me thought that there was a chance late second round. And, you know, Chris, my agent would call me and say this team wants to draft you would just send you overseas and. He didn't think it was a good move. And he kind of had to talk me out of it just to not here. My name on draft night was disappointing. But like you said, I, I definitely thought I made the right decision. I think to once you get into the second round a lot of those picks are, if it's not like a European stash a player who they're just not gonna bring over for a while, they're going to sort of take a gamble on athleticism size. Maybe somebody's not real polish player, but physically fits the profile which you probably didn't check those boxes at that time. I'm going to have to agree with. I definitely didn't check those boxes. And the thing I kept hearing from people is like when a guy like myself is sent overseas. You essentially have to start over when you come back and just didn't want to do that. And you know, if it didn't work out from me, not making the team in training camp. I could live with that. But having to start over coming back from overseas didn't want to do that, teach I want to get back to your path a little bit. But losing to Toronto the way you guys lost that game seven like still pretty fresh..

"But by and large is not a guy you want to have to rely on and Lowery and van -vely in particular, look like their fifth graders on the court against some of the Sixers guys. And this goes back to your point where that the the five or six guys are seven guys when James Ennis Mike Scott are both on which in this game. They both played particularly. Well, yeah, they're just like monsters, and there's no way to counterbalance that you have to be able to shoot them and the raptors shot seven for twenty seven. Yeah. They're just not prolific three point shooters. And so what you're relying on is quite lettered. And quite was incredible. There was at times this game. We were legitimately comparing him to Michael Jordan is Jordan. Yeah. I mean, not that we're not trying to be sacrilegious as much as it's just that feeling of metronomic scoring consistency throughout a game where he's gonna get his eight a quarter. And then when the when the chips are down really go for it. And there was a couple. Points here. I mean, the raptors didn't have their outside shooting going early on. And I felt like they made a nice little ruin in the second quarter where they just either whether it was in transition or just getting like five six eight foot shots just getting closer to the rim getting shots that they felt like they were comfortable going in. But yeah, they were just didn't ever seem to be someone Siachen wound up with with like twenty three or something like that. But nobody else stepped up and on the flip side for the Sixers. I think it was like early in the third their starting five Ron double digits. And if anything it was like there wasn't enough scoreboard for everybody. If they're all playing like that when Tobias and Ben can have quiet dot dazzling night. Like that. I think almost anybody in the league is in trouble in other the really really really big test. We've seen people saying this online. I think we can talk about it right now. It's like this was Sunday's moving day, man. Like if the raptors don't show up on Sunday. It's a pretty pretty huge indictment on this entire experiment. Right. And I mean. We've been saying this entire season that the raptors this collective and the Sixers have leaned in as the season has gone on more into a couple of guys. But on the past two games particular you've seen what someone like having a Jimmy Butler. There does for you. Maybe he breaks the offense way too much. Maybe he isn't as much of a defensive force. But in game two he pretty much won that game when they just needed someone to turn to in the clutch you've seen the raptors on the other hand. Yes, they have Kawai. But who else are they turning to and by making the trade, forget soul? I almost wonder if they thought that he would be more of a factor, especially when Embiid look in a series like this when I'm beat isn't in there. They can go down to him in the post and he can soar bucket, but that's not working in. So you're pretty much reliant on PASCAL Ceac him who just a few months months ago became a guy became a guy. You can throw the ball into and he can make some stuff happening guy like in a night like this. He just didn't have it. And it's almost like we're putting too much pressure on him. Him to be Jimmy Butler. Now, it kind of reminds me a little the earliest sent of Paul George air. Like, he has that kind of two way dynamism, but like you can't necessarily count on it every night. You know, like he's he's per game numbers are really good and. It just seemed to get a look here. It's seems shrink a little bit tonight. Now he that. I don't think that trip like those guys know each other they seem pretty cool with each other afterwards. Like, I know that people are going to debate whether he should have been tossed for that or whether that was intentional. I don't think he was trying to hurt and beat..

"And if you're in need of a hub of all things hoops related make sure you fall at ringer NBA on Twitter. Basketball is very good. Curry is the best curry. The Sixers should trade for Landry, Shannon. The playoffs are better without liberal. Basketball is very good. Into the ringer NBA show. This is the group chat. I am just in various with me sitting across from me, the O G Jon himself. Yeah. Coming up after the triumphant. Sixers win is Chris Ryan what's up, man? I'm feeling very gritty. Yeah. Are you feeling grimy and gully as well? Yeah. I mean like it was a really nice Philly moment with desha Jackson at the game. Allen Iverson at the game the game. There's a lot of like, Philadelphia, icons and attendance. And it was like a pretty pretty definitive Philadelphia performance. I'm going to try and like not the superfan ding-dong about it. Like, I'm trying to be objective because right now in Twitter. It's like what seven forty seven on the west coast. There's a lot of crowding on. Yeah. A lot of crowning and going on like doozer just like Zach tweeting like that's like a identity forming performance. I saw our buddy. Mike Levin say that's warriors ask you know. So it was a pretty pretty definitive victory seems extreme just any winter. I'm just reporting. Considering what just happened in the first two games? But yes, this game was a triumphant. A pretty big statement win for the Sixers. They won one sixteen to ninety five in game three against the Toronto. Raptors that put them up to one in the series. The biggest thing is just Joel Embiid. Yeah. Last game he was dealing with some what do they call it? Gash gash distress for now. I okay, he's called it. The shits. He has the poops. Yeah. Which you know is tough to play through. I'm sure has we know. But he comes in in this game. Seems totally fine dominates I fine. As an understatement. Okay. I thought tonight was like shack in shack in well both from domination standpoint. But also from like, he turned the Wells Fargo into wrestlemainia, you said this at one point in our slack that this is what happens when you have a center who's an advantage. Not that type of guy who gets played. Yeah. I mean, we for most of the FIFA like the last three years the playoffs have been a story of slowly playing big men off the floor. Whether it's go bare for Hibbert even Steven Adams in the Portland series this last series. You know, I think not that MB would ever be victims of something like that. Because so much of the Sixers offense runs through them through him. But this was just I think because he had his outside shot going you had to respect them all over the floor, and then he just turned into a force of nature. Yeah. When he plays. He's been excellent as postseason, and but even in a game like this. They sat him. Late because the game was in hand. But he only played twenty eight minutes in those twenty eight minutes. He just like completely warped the way the the raptors really wanted to play. There was that really kind of notable plight toward the end. There were PASCAL Siaka. Tried to go at him trying to dunk over him and Embiid did not move yet. And I think that's what you have. When you have a player like him. I don't know orient the point where we want to say that they're in control. I don't wanna do that yet. I'd like there's been playoff series in the past. I kinda talk. I always think about like some of those thunder victories over the Spurs that we had this decade where the Spurs were like this finely tuned buzzsaw, and then the thunder just out athletic them. Just they were just longer. They were faster there were Springer. I don't want to say that just yet about this series. Because I just think that this is going to go seven I have a feeling it is. But I think the one thing that happened here is that one through ten the raptors are easily a better team than the Sixers. But if you wanna play essentially six seven guys, you know, eight eight guys but Greg Monroe's not getting a ton of minutes. It's basically eight on eight Sixers are better at least tonight. It doesn't help the raptors bench. Just looks really thin. Yeah..

"Or more. He was eighth seventeen near NBA bet a two-time all-star before transitioning to a front office for all day. Formerly introduced it as the new general manager of the seventy Sixers Elton brand. Does that sound by the way? I know you've had people say that to you a bunch of the last forty eight hours, but just to hear it, that's your project. And now it's kind of surreal, you know, being an athlete and a player for so long to say Brandon or manageable as a nice ring to it. I like it. Absolutely. For me to be here, you know, not just speak for myself, but other players who we all came in together and been playing together for a long time, but to see you where you at now, if it's like, we're all we all went win and we're all getting his job. So I'm happy for you. Congratulations while you definitely deserve it. And it couldn't happen to a better person. Tuck little more on though. Right? Because it's a little bit about we're talking about this in the commercial break. It's about what's possible. All of a sudden you see you in this role in this. Oh, this is possible, right? Absolutely. He knows the brotherhood ex players want to transition in. Subsequent is TV whether it's business, whether it's managements. So to get this opportunity holds a lot of weight. 'cause like Chauncey Billips for the is opportunity, even though he didn't take it, they offered it. They offered it and that's like, okay, that could come into Orissa. That could be real Monique rose chasing Langdon, seeing how how they took it, how meticulous they took their job every day. Those was great. So when I have my opportunity I had to go for. Absolutely. And what was the interview process leg. I was gonna talk to, you know, in a room with some wealthy people and present a PowerPoint and it's aboard meeting, and but you just have to be prepared and have a great staff. That's the other thing about this. This role that I have. I'm not alone. The people around me, I feel topping verticals from analytics to known CBA. So we put the Decca gun. They said, we want you to lead. So I said, okay, I, I'll take it. You ran everything in a delete, delete from top to bottom. So you have a job you ready to go from top to bottom, gag. I basically who plays with the Sixers, when did they go back and forth to who gets a parking pass and makes. In that level, you literally are you're doing the bus schedule, you're doing everything, right? So you're ready. What do you think your toughest? You're not going to have to do that stuff. Here's an MBA general manager. What do you think your toughest job will be as a GM. This young team to develop and being ready for an opportunity. So everyone talks about free agency free agency, but we may have to pull the trigger on something else before free agency. If we feel we can't get one of those those stars that I can't name. He can't talk about anywhere. Now, do you think your team has enough to compete for title right now, or are you gonna add some pieces? Let's still think we need a piece we're close and if you ask Joe. Well, we have enough of been. We have enough because that's the chip than they have in his shoulder and there's, you know, they're leat. So we'll see. They don't want to hear that. But I think we still need a piece. I think you'll have enough, especially with acid and guys like Wilson Chandler veterans and got solid guys like that. You know, I'm I'm really high on the two young guys I have. I mean, I think I think they can really carry especially when the Bronco on west, but this is has a special group, a young guy like say, what the best you got, you got a good chance and everyone wants to see you're kind of getting into dish in that. You didn't actually add this year, which is Markelle folks, right? Even technically added last year, but didn't play a ton. What do you expect from him this year?.

"Innovative I think he is the type of manager that the entire game will trend toward the. Future he's the future better way to put. It, yeah I would say he's the. Future. Okay I like that the Sixers are The Sixers are under rated because everyone is doing gloom and it's hard to. Talk about the NBA and not talking about the Golden State Warriors who arguably may be the. Greatest team in NBA history there's a lot. Of, really compelling arguments about how that. Team. Could probably beat Michael Jordan's bowls All six of their championships And, there's a, real sense of? You know what's the point if we can't win a championship the next two or three years behind that team over there or Houston. Who's right on their heels but I think especially with Simmons and Embiid and this is a huge. Year for for for faults They're extremely underrated an adult. Think they're that far behind Boston yeah. I I mean I can't say it, enough and, again I I, think they need they're certainly need, to add, and I think in two thousand nineteen they're going to have the resources to be able to to at least be players in landing these guys that's. Not the right off this year I'm not writing off by any stretch but I I don't think Were playing up the improvement angle nearly enough because it's not as sexy as LeBron right or co why and I I really think we're going to see these guys grow. In leaps and bounds this I was I was watching something. And, be, today I, think he he built a a basketball, court in Africa right yeah, and he was he was. He was playing with his brother whatever, he looks thinner like he looks like he's in better shape and to me for for him to have. An off season where he can just. Work on his game to work on, his low, post is conditioning Do we think Ben Simmons doesn't. Realize he needs to get better as jump shooter he. Does and those, two guys are Jim rats they're always working, on? Their. Game I know. We're caught up in dating the Jenner kid, and. All that other stuff they're non stories it's nothing who first of all see the first twenty one year old with some money and some fame to date gimme a break or overblown nonsense I've ever seen anyway They're going to be much. Improved right. Now are they better than Boston no, we're gonna have to see what. Toronto looks like they're going to be interesting with Kawai they had to do something. There in a. Desperate state they're different Toronto and, the dodgers are in very similar places where they're sort of cusp fish and they needed to do something that's not where the Sixers are Embiid and Simmons are young. Enough that they can continue to improve which is, a scary proposition right and I'm not sure it was pressing for them to get immediately better now obviously with abroad, that's that's a difference maker that's a team that could win a championship of something, went wrong Golden State for instance yes but Toronto were paper Tigers. For multiple years and they were just getting torn up by, Cleveland they were in a spot of desperation because otherwise every year it's the second round elimination at best. Question Sixers have. A, little bit of time and go and say is going. To have their problems trying to keep their guys under the. Salary cap and they're going? To, keep getting older Steph has lingering injury problems I. Think Sixers are in a real sweet. Spot right now and I don't think there's any reason. They couldn't be better than the Celtics in a year or two the fascinating one look there's a couple things are going to be interesting one if you wanna To look ahead to free agency. In nineteen and. Look, I know people are saying my God were still in. Two thousand eighteen Is, Klay Thompson really going. To stay there and take a discount I mean, he, might he might, be that exception where he says I love it, here we're going to keep winning at a perfect spy hey maybe he does but this. Is. His time to get paid insanely and you, can only fit so many guys..

"Sexes on his first three shots yeah you got you got to witness your sixers up twenty two and then your sixers down like ten like it was it was a wild game it was told somebody at early on me and lou were half either we haven't a good old time wrote my twenty two then we were losing me and gas were high five and we're having a good old time man it was it was a hell of a game that i it feels like it happened years ago after watching them lose those sixers today see like the one pointer that might that's going to be something i think that goes on forever like how big on his resume is up to him but it's on there well that was the thing because anyone who goes to games realizes but i haven't been to a game in the flash in years so like all those like the first three quarters went by and i was just worried about the comeback i had assumed simmons probably had like eleven just like didn't feel like he was playing great but and then in the fourth you you looked up at the jump on you like seven zero as one point and i was like now that has to be some sort of misprint like the the the score up the operator must be just out yeah zero must be like supposed to be they like maybe as ten.

"So you caught a flat and rusty sixers team you're at home they're on the road got to win that's great but if the sixers wing game to head back to philly with a split on the road what good does it do it doesn't matter the sixers win game one or two the split on the road boston to have a chance to win this series needs to defend home court and they're going to be doing it and they know it against the sixers team that's unlikely to miss all those open shots even when boston's defense breaks down a sixers team who is likely now with the rust shaken to too much more instinct offense and the sixers team whose big men who is as stephen a would say a bad man embiid already took responsibility for his own defensive play and put an emphasis on that heading into game two in fact it is boston who is under more pressure in game two to get the win i completely disagree with you i think the pressures on the philadelphia seventy sixers and i think the pressures on the philadelphia seventy sixers is because of what boston was able to do with them without jaylen brown jaylen brown comes back it's conceivable that the boston celtics can steal a game in philadelphia right just like it's conceivable that the philadelphia seventy sixers to turn things around and steal a game in boston you have to sit up there and protect your home court there's no question but if you're the philadelphia seventy sixers you certainly because of the manner in which you lost this game where you weren't hitting parameters shots but more importantly far more often than not it wasn't just about missed open jump shots it was also about you being forced off the three point line five a number one team against the three in the nba which is the boston celtics and so when i look at it from that perspective the very thing that serve is the sixers strength there's a kryptonite to it that the boston celtics was this you hit three point shot boston defense against three point shots you're.

"Like there's not really any reason to think that it's like okay youth that's going to hold you back even if you have surprised talent they obviously had the supreme talent they made that very clear joel embiid ben simmons top fifteen players so it's like oh but they're young it's like no they're fifteen players they're great like i mean like what more is there to say if they're young and really good than they're still really good you know like that's that's the big thing for me is that like the sixers the sixers talent is overcoming their youth and quote unquote inexperience and to me that is not shocking but what do you think this the coaching too in what's what's probably most impressive president me i still don't know what i think about sixers versus raptors i mean i feel silly saying that on some level so there has to be something there about that being yeah that's really but i just i'm not saying it shouldn't it might maybe it should be obvious right now i there's just been too many games going the last few weeks to get down to the second round where i had more bandwidth to really kind of go in and think about how to really gonna go if they get there but for me when when they true they get there but for me brett brown that coaches that deserve a lot of credits because what's really impressive to me is that he he'll make lineup changes like deadball deadball deadball deadball and he's like you know playing chess in doing a perfectly when i recorded last week with dane we talked about the fact that once the bead came back on it couldn't play in the brit brow was toying with olympic and that he would pull in bead and spotlit put a lynn again the next to the ball back in the pool olympic and brown was effing with spoke and a lennick the press part of that is that even when brown is doing the like hyper cycling players that balls to get those matchups and and of stay and he's done that all five players on the team exactly what's going on than to expect exactly what they're supposed to do they're not lost in lightweight whom i guarding or what are we running on they.
