Emily's Top 2 Things for Being a Business Boss
The. Hi bosses, Emily here to spill some insights into two things. I couldn't live without as the boss of my own business community and accountability many years ago when I was a few years into my own creative business owner career I began to fill bogged down tapped out and really lonely, and my business the shiny fun of being my own boss and living that creative business owner. Life was beginning to wear off. And I knew I needed a jolt to get to my next levels. I didn't realize it then. But this is something we all feel in our business and not just once, but often sickly it's a sign that it's time to look outside of ourselves for new perspectives fresh insights and do some leveling up when I first experienced this. I began looking for boss friends, a group of creatives that I could connect with share with and just be a part of it felt simple enough. But I soon found that this search. Put me in places shifted. My mindset and connected me with folks that changed my life and business forever. In fact, one of the first big investments, I made in my business was in what I found on my search a six month mastermind group this group led me to gain so much insight into my business goals career, desires and connected me with people that I still to this day. Call my friends, even though I was out looking for community, and I found it. I also found a huge dose of accountability. Because being shown your weaknesses and strengths and goals, and plans are only as good as how well you show up and do the work, and a group of bosses will definitely be there to keep you in check and help you along the way this first mastermind that I did showed me that I'm not alone. And neither are you. There are other bosses you were going through the same things that you are whether it's explosive growth and growing pains or struggles to just get it off the ground and every boss, I meet has. Insights or experience to share to help you find your way all bosses fill only sometimes but community is the cure. It also showed me that that loneliness absolutely had a negative effect on my business, keeping me pigeonholed and my own current thinking community will literally help you grow and expand the year or two after my first mastermind investment, and it definitely wasn't my last saw my first six-figure year growing my team a huge once in a lifetime around the country road trip, and even the launch of the being bossed podcast and accountability has definitely become my secret weapon to getting it all done having regular check ins with other badass bosses will keep you on your toes and ever moving forward community and accountability help you realize your dreams I with discovering and setting the right goals and second with helping you show up and do the work to achieve them. That's no cast dot E P P and enter the code optimal in completing your sign up for now's get right to the boast as we optimize your. Life. Committing to no commitments by calling right of exile, lifestyle dot com. A few years ago. I made a decision to stop committing long-term. At least think of how many commitments you have in your life, agreements and contracts and relationships they'll be with you for years into the future. Now, imagine what life would be like without those commitments. These days monetary amendments are big part of what make large purchases viable and iphone would cost upwards of six hundred dollars off contract and not locked into any particular phone company commit for two years, though. And you get it for a fraction of that cost. Unfortunately, these commitments are often harmful long-term, not only are you locked into using that network for two years. You're also committed to paying a certain amount of money every month for that direction. Your overhead has increased and will remain increased, regardless of how your life changes. In the meantime, similarly, most people rent apartments for a year or more at a time. This is the kind of decision that impacts everything you do. You're stuck in that apartment for. At least a year and shorter breaking the contract, which can be tricky to do. You have no way out you owe a certain amount of money each month for at least a year, you will live in the same place for at least a year your year is preplanned and nothing can change that. If you want to scale down, perhaps make less income, I bell. But take more time for yourself. You can't because you've committed a paying a set amount of money every month commitments can be positive things. Of course is nice to know how long you'd be living someplace so that you can plan ahead, but they do limit your options significantly, and perhaps more than most people realize one of the most common complaints. I hear is that they're locked into a certain lifestyle. They have a job they have an apartment or house. They've Afon bland they have loans they have pets and relationships in gym memberships. There's nothing wrong with having these things, but having them limits your options in may make sense to spend one hundred dollars and take on a new two year contract. So that you can enjoy that new iphone now. Now, but doing so results in a highest overall cost over the next two years, and you'll be stuck with that phone and that plan for the duration think back to who you were and what you were doing with your life two years ago. Are you the same person with the same needs were the technologies at the time the same as they are now or the variables that guided your decisions the same as they are. Now, probably not the decision. I made years ago was not to eliminate commitment completely. But to put a ceiling on how long my commitments would last six months. Six months is the maximum amount of time. I will commit to anything in work in relationships in subscriptions or services, the most I'll be locked into MS six months after that time, I can reassess my life, and my needs and decide whether or not to continue working with that company dating that person or living in that apartment giving myself the opportunity to check in and make that assessment has made all the difference in the level of freedom. I enjoy. There are things have had to give up as a result of this rule. But generally, it's not too big an issue if I want to rent an apartment, I have to look a little harder for someone who rent shorter-term, if we want to have a mobile phone plan. I choose the monthly option and only use unlocked phones, if I want to date someone I take the time to explain the philosophy behind this concept. This kind of lifestyle comes with limits, but they're far less invasive than the limousine remove approach isn't right for everyone. But for people like me who value freedom over convenience is the best. I've found so far if you wanna give it a shot do what you can to eliminate existing commitments from your life and don't accept any new ones beyond a certain span of time said simple at the end of the day. This is a lifestyle experiment, like many others that I've tried, but it stuck around longer than most of undertaken, thankfully, this experiment is also called into question every six months, so if it ever sees its to suit me in the lifestyle, I want to lead I can easily cast it away. May once again enjoying long-term gym memberships and discounted smartphones. Update February seventeenth twenty seventeen by don't do this anymore. Not formally. Anyway, though, I do still recoil little from commitments beyond a certain period. I'm currently renting an apartment in Kansas. And is the first flat. I've rented for longer than six months since two thousand nine I hadn't yet written my book, some thoughts about relationships when this post was first published so people didn't fully understand my comment about checking in when it comes to relationships. The idea is to ensure everyone involved has the opportunity to check in with themselves and see what's changed, and whether the relationship still make sense within that context in most cases, mid probably will. But if not is beneficial to have a preset opportunity to establish that and to really take the time to ask yourself that question and know that the other person or people will be doing the same. He just listen to the post titled committing to no commitments by calling right of exile, lifestyle dot com. Thing is a brave that he made the update at the end and flat out said he doesn't do this any more formally for some it might be a good experiment. But for others. We need that commitment manikin act as a driving force in our lives in either case, an interesting one to contemplate and help you determine your own values and out was there something in that post that you heard that you wanted to take note of or recently have been using the no cast app by X, I q which is available on both IOS and Android.
