MLB players union rejects league's latest offer

"On a return to work which will likely lead to litigation and the sports returned to a labour rift the union's action could lead to a season of about fifty games the players association could respond by filing a grievance that would be heard by an arbiter we're joined by ESPN MLB insider Jeff pastor Jeff as expected the players reject the latest offer from the owners the Players Association again asking the league to set a schedule rather than countering what does that mandated season look like what hello at this point because while Major League Baseball suggested that it will be in forty eight games that might do fifty games there's also the possibility that you could file a grievance against the Major League Baseball Players Association for negotiating in bad faith and breaching the mark agreement that has been part of this really part of the whole deal here and that would really blow things up so MLB's next move may be the most consequential of all but one of the players did today was was fourth pulling hand and and really show if there are going to begin this year we're going to get a sense of what they look like yeah you have that litigation as a by product of these negotiations so this is the last resort of a possible season and they'd also have to negotiate safety protocols which have to be agreed upon as well that said what's the earliest we can possibly see baseball played in a regular season boy it's tough to say at this point because I listen I'm not leaving out the idea that a negotiated settlement can come out of this you know the the PA today said I would feel like negotiations are over which is funny because honestly they never really started in the first place it was just to survive like talking over one another so I I still think there is the possibility of a sixty something games even if all the parties recognised just how stupid and self defeating this entire thing is and get together and get to see them on the board but otherwise if it's a forty eight fifty game season you know we're we're talking players not going to spring training for another month we're talking games not starting until after the NBA is scheduled to start at sometime in August and ending toward the end of September and then the you know just a regular playoff being played because the only way to have an expanded postseason like MLB and the players were both hoping for is that an agreement between the fact that in the absence of that we're just going to go back to the same one game wildcard out five game division series LPS World Series all right Jeff humor me for a second here our group is is known both sides know that in this scenario there is money that's going to be lost it's already known on both sides so why not anywhere in the range of sixty five to seventy five games full pro rated salaries and extra playoff teams like sixteen that's been bandied about so owners pay the players a hundred percent proration they get back some money with the extra post season games why couldn't that be some level of a compromise I think that's what the players were hoping for honestly and I think the players have gotten the sense that I think it is the the right sense that owner simply are not willing to do that they're not willing to guarantee the players one hundred percent of their full pro rated salary with the possibility of the post even being canceled on account of corona virus outbreak or or something else that that really could you know could derail the postseason there there is deep fear among the owners of the possibility of that eight hundred million plus dollars that they would get it from television rights in October just vanishing and in that money being important in their eyes to go and pay players yeah they they they are saying that their local television deals during the shortened season are going to be worth about nine hundred eighty thousand dollars per game they're also saying that players are going to get paid about one point six seven million dollars for games now the number about player salaries not in dispute the number about local television absolutely is in dispute it's something that frankly the value has been at the center yes the idea that clubs are going to lose as much money as they say they are and that's part of the reason why the players have been pushing it strongly if they have for their full pro rated salary they feel like they've lost a lot of money already to the games that haven't been place sure and they want to be paid for the ones that are going to be

"Market. I think it's interesting that he said that and it probably is easier for a football coach making six seven million dollars a year not to be concerned about the economics as opposed to an administrator. But I'm really glad he said it though because it is the truth and you hate to get into a situation where we're economics is the only factor here The health of the young players. Very important I mean this. Don't laugh at me when I say this. This is still college football. Okay and you're only left a myself or saying. Let's check out John Up next in Mississippi John. "We were kind of tired, and then that news broke and Kevin's like I have to right now. I think I ended up writing for something for the. As well. And it was because we're just sitting there going why it'd be and Hardaway it's not immense negative value. I mean, I still, but it is negative value. We'll what is I would characterize him as like a fortified million dollar player in my opinion. I was thinking more in the like six six seven million dollar range. Personally, it is. Oh hardaway's. Also, a great example. I should have brought this up mad at myself that I didn't when we talked about in the potty like because he didn't pick up his his player option. Then he only got the bonus on the remaining years of his contract before the bonus. So we'll be making twenty million next season. And then eighteen sorry nineteen basically the year after that. Because he did pick it up Issur just on that. I guess he wanted the flexibility, but he's not going to be at twenty minutes at pro roller have the flexibility as I mean, even though yet does seem I mean might get bought out or something you can you can talk to his former teammate at his canter about that. Yeah. But that's one. That's a again only goes two more years. So that's. Not great. But certainly a and it goes performance in Dallas, so far that has backed up a our opinion of him Denver. They've got yoga to goes out. That's obviously a great deal of Gary Harrison will Barton each go out. Three more years Harris is gonna average a little over eighteen over the next three years. Barton will average thirteen over thirteen over the next three years does of a player option on the end of that for fourteen point seven million. I think those will end up being fine of Barton. I worry about towards the end of it Harris in that contract book, totally good until he had all these injury problems. Is here you'd ever know guys can just kinda fall off and not be the same after comeback fringes. They both of will Barton that court muscle injury as well. But clearly these guys have been productive players so far it not really in any kind of consideration. But just wants to keep an eye on here. If they can't get back to the level of performance that they've been at previously it end Barton was one that I didn't really care for even when it was signed especially to. To the back end. We can move onto to the pistons the pistons have two guys that are on big contract. I cost guide them as big but not awful. And I mean, Blake Griffin just a lot of money three years. One hundred ten million final year player option. Andre Drummond, two years. Fifty five point eight million final year player option. So I wouldn't I don't think there among the worst contracts. Nearly both those guys have played well, especially recently, they're they're young enough. I and full credit to Blake Griffin. I expected that contract to be a disaster. But he's played excellently..

I'm surprised as hell I'm not one that you know. I thought I didn't even think that would be a conversation. It's like, yeah. We'll play for whatever we need. I think they're lying in the weeds. Telling you like it's to really price. Harper wants to come here to tell me they're going to say really if you look at how they handled the Cole hamels deal situation. There had to get. "Is a true reflection of the rest of the entire big twelve in if this is all about the college football playoff which it is an inclusion the best path for cfp inclusion for oklahoma and texas is right here the way they've got it through the big twelve and they've got their title game this year that's what i most interested to see how that will impact the big twelve in the whole playoff race this year um but look their dire straits okay this isn't like you know falling off a cliff of college football there okay this is dave born to me that's what it is it's that it has been it i mean as anything offered weight at that as and that it even come from somebody outside the week that income from pulp on bob for ivan nasal it came from david orne and so when you call yourself that perception is reality and calls people right in so many different ways when you call yourself psychologically disadvantaged then people tend to look at you that way and uh i think you're right heather i mean i think that um you know you mentioned a thirty point four it's going to go up this year that was last year's number and we're not even counting what texas gets from along were network or whatever you get sperm their sooner sports tv agreement with fox sports which is in the you know the five six seven million dollar rage there collecting plenty of revenue right now that it's always been behind the big in in the sec when it comes to remedy this like a not a new development for the big question is is it going to be so is the gap gonna be so why that it's just it's going to render uh you know texas in oklahoma uh uh.
