"Every year audible visits the state capital in sacramento with the latest class of the chicano latino youth leadership project. It's a group you belong to when he first heard about one eighty-seven out of those now president of the nonprofit when i went to the conference tonight before i sat and the the assembly floor and i remember seeing two maybe three spanish earnings but now i went back and i counted thirty six names. So you talk about impact. You talk about a change. I mean. I'm looking at this board of of legislators there it is it's right there. Laura molina has a similar take one eighty seven. We became voters which started changing things. People like my mother stood there and filled out her application for citizenship and she became a citizen so it changed people's minds immediately and everybody woke up and said it past what happened. It shouldn't bad. One eighty-seven changed kevin nealon to. He's one of the activists organized a big l. a. march october nineteen ninety-four. The thought that politicians could actually tear at the fabric of who we are as a great country. Got me to thinking along with my colleagues. Maybe one of us should run for office. In two thousand fourteen. Kevin becomes the first latino california senate president in one hundred thirty years. My political awakening was properties seven. There's no question about it. The prevailing narrative is that wilson's embrace of one eighty-seven doomed the republican party in california forever after wilson and his defenders reject out of course. But just ask the latinos who lived through one eighty-seven and are still around. Ask people like me better yet. Ask california's latino legislative caucus to coincide with the twenty fifth anniversary of prop one eighty seven. They're releasing short film. Titled thank you pete wilson. Thank you governor wilson..

"Coming back After his opt out season some people were starting to question whether he was coming back or not because he hadn't been there for some voluntary workouts for hud's raising his hand. Say he was me. Will now that lbj t is back. How does that affect the competition at right guard. Do you think there is a competition to see is just gonna jump right back into the first team reps or trey smith have something to say about it even at this point career. Oh absolutely the chiefs are hyping and hyping him up enough for where we have to consider trey smith now and they keep talking about and we keep hearing his name. I mean andy heck saying that. He's he basically sounded very confident that he'd be a starter at some point in his career. Just you know he has some stuff to work on but he just flat out said you know he doesn't he doesn't need to say that at this point you know. He doesn't need to hype them up like that publicly so i think it's absolutely a competition. Elliot does have a good chance. So you know it's it's important no system and he's a smart dude. Obviously so that's really going to give them an advantage. In and trae is is rob prospect and it that there were reasons he drops to the sixth round. Not just because of you know the medical. That's the main part of it. Obviously but he's a raw player and you know he wasn't nfl. Ready maybe a write up the gate But we'll see we'll see trying to competition that she's been able to get away with putting guards not experienced guards. you know. maybe you know a more. You don't wanna call. It transmits off the street. But just you anyone in there and being able to make it work so maybe throwing some with raw power in their raw talent could could be worked with you know experienced at the rest of the positions. I think the challenge with trae smith and college at least appear to be consistency. He had the highlight reel plays the high high is a major believe he's a future all pro and then he had some other place where you're wondering what he was doing and or wondering if he knew what he was doing and so they'll be a learning curve for him. L. d. t. I think you know what you have in that player. He's been there long enough in the system. He's had some really good years years getting paid. He's had a couple of years that maybe weren't so impressive. Where were talking about finding a replacement for him. So is it just the two main competition at this point or do we think any of these other guys might factor in awesome bligh. You know Andrew wylie. There's another number of other bodies that could theoretically be thrown at right guard position. Even lucas neang. What do you think is a two main competition or is it. is it a five or six main competition. Yeah allah grady Allegany is another one to consider to You know he did start at left guard all last year. So that's that's something you know. Hey his starting experience even it's not the same position with someone else we have to consider. Lucas neang maybe Getting more guard play if if they do wanna be in one of the situations where they're putting their best five up and they do want to get bigger and they think remers a solid right tackle You know maybe they do say hey we know you're you're the future at right tackle. Let's get you playing now. Let's get your body in there. Let's get you at right guard. So that's another one to consider you know I it is truly open. Competition and brave each did call Neang a guard possibility last offseason right after they drafted him. I know the situation was different last year on the line. Because you know yet eric fisher mitchell schwartz. He wasn't playing tackle for you. But yeah it. It's it's interesting and it will definitely be one of the best competitions at training camp to watch To follow. well let's six names. I think you just listed as possibility right if you re factoring in you know kneeing and Allegri so i. I honestly think it's a two person competition there and everybody else is going to be scrambling for death spots along the line. I really do think they're going to do everything can to make it a competition between smith and lt. Yeah with l. d. Ldc having the contract know that he has the incentive to make it work there with smith you know an on such a cheap deal having such the upside that he has they might wanna bring him along a little bit more slowly and let long-term answer there. Let lt play out this year. Smith be the long-term answer maybe count alarm doesn't make the roster his you know his health isn't right and they don't see a spot for him so there's a lot of different ways this thing can go whether a competition or wider competition. I it brings us to some other comments. That i saw one was jarran reed commenting about your his role in the defense and how things were going so far. He went out of his way to praise. Maybe we're not talking about enough in that rotation in turk- warden and is that an underrated player is under the radar guide. That you're we're all excited about drawn. Read with chris jones and frank clark all at the same time you know or or drawn read with derek ninety on running downs but warton might be that extra rotational interior pass rusher. That makes us thing really really go. Yeah when you see a guy come out like he did his rookie year. I think everyone he is. He is on everyone's radar. He's not as if you're achieved saying you know if you're watching the chiefs every week you know tershawn wharton is now. And that's pretty impressive for an undrafted free agent rookie from i believe it was missouri. Sat down in raleigh missouri shadow. If anyone's from there. So yeah. I think it is important to understand that he was a really good pass rusher last year. He was one of the best rookie pass shows in the nfl. Statistically coordinate bff last year and he doesn't have to put in a position where he's the main guy on a line he's he is going to get the one on ones with you know some. Maybe just a bad gardner bad center because they need their best guys on chris. Jones taco charleston. Jarran reed frank clark. All those guys..

chris jones Andrew wylie lucas neang five jarran reed frank clark Smith Lucas neang eric fisher tershawn wharton sixth round Neang Elliot derek ninety trey smith last year six names chris. Allegri Jarran reed frank clark

"Murdoch larry page. We have all their information And we have many more. We have thousands of people. We may report on some of these people. What we wanted to do was illustrate this in a very careful. Way with some specific examples We're going to be doing stories all year on various aspects of it and will name many many more people but only in what we consider to be responsible ways that are in the public interest. Okay all right so more possibly to come. But let's talk about two sources of data here for calculation of wealth grows you noted you're using estimates from forbes the income tax payments paid by the wealthiest americans. You're using irs documents that you obtained and received anonymously correct correct. And you don't know where they came from. We're we're really not commenting on that or discussing that in any detail nine. We're going to be very careful Well we want to protect the source and sources but We don't know an enormous amount And we're not going to explain what we do know. The most important thing about this is that this information has been verified in countless ways. I don't wanna bust your chops to hear about some of the stuff. People have an issue because apparently it's illegal to take this information from the ours is not illegal for you to have it. Yeah bussed away we we talk about journalistic standards. Yeah i'd love to. I'd love to. Because i think people should understand who are questioning the way. They're attacking the story. Is they got hot information. Essentially as if a pawn shop or something like that. What kind of corroboration have you done to feel confident in these numbers. Sure so accuracy in corroboration that these facts were of paramount importance to us so the first thing we did was go through an enormous amount of public material to see whether the numbers matched up and we were very paranoid and we thought you know somebody could have assembled data millions of lines data way. One of the things was that. Pass the smell test from minute one. It had information that really only Select entities might have. But you know that's not enough for us as the smell test but so we then went to private sources. Only those private entities would know and ran selective pieces of information by them and that also was verified and in the end we pretty easily surmounted information on fifty individuals and by that point we had a high level competence but that was not enough so then we assembled the information on. Jeff bezos elon. Musk and michael. Bloomberg and carl icahn. We presented that to as many people who would accept it and gave them the information and said we're going to publish this What you have to say about it. and no one disputed the veracity of the numbers and no one since we published as disputed. That numbers either yet is out in your article. Contemplative scenario where the source was a state actor that might be hostile to american interests. And the quote that you have here is two things we have long held at. These motives are irrelevant. The information is reliable which you just said. And the editors also said in your note. Providence is not essential accuracy which is essentially. You said the same thing twice so talk about this issue of what if the sources nefarious. Because in this case it's not misinformation as correct information possibly stolen information surely answer specifically in. Generally the first specific thing to say is that we don't know the provenance but the inspector general for the irs came out Many months ago and said that the solar winds hack which was a russian providence hack of huge amount government data. You probably know much more about it than i do. that they didn't access irs materials. I just want allegedly right. That's what they say. Yeah so let me go to general comment that go back to a specific comment. Generally we do not care about the providence of information when i in my reporting career i've been a reporter now for almost thirty years. God love me. I have always put it through the prism of whether it is true. And whether it is newsworthy. And i've been in business journalism and so it's been very clear to me from the beginning that everybody who talks to me is biased and has an agenda. No one talks to me. Because i'm charming handsome. I wish it were the case But no they're trying to move markets and move their position and convince me of their Of their position to make money. You're essentially saying everybody has an agenda. Yeah but just because you're bias doesn't mean raw and here. I think that no one can accuse us of being responsible stewards of this enormously. Valuable and precious and sensitive material and we published. I think we published six names right. Although one can compare speaking of. Jeff bezos national inquire the sex that he did were accurate he did write those very awkward sex. They got them apparently through the brother but nonetheless they publish them and you could make that argument. They're accurate but is that correct. Well then you come to the newsworthy side of the equation. And i like to think that. What the wealthiest person in the country contributes to american society through a tax system that we all need to contribute to is a little bit more newsworthy than a crotch shot. I that's just. Maybe that's me. Yeah but i think that this crosses the public interest threshold and it's not just me. I don't make decisions on my own. We have a careful Venting system at propublica. I'm working with two brilliant colleagues. Paul kill and jefferson's thousand and then of course we have editors and then we all it goes up and we have lawyers. We all made a determination that this serve the public interest. And i would be very shocked to have someone to make an argument aside from maybe the wall street journal editorial page that there isn't a public interest in understanding that the wealthy are outside of the taxes that they pay zero in taxes that they have legal mechanisms. I wanna emphasize this is all legal. We're not making any accusation in this story of illegal behavior. This is this system that we have. And i think we have a notion in this country. We certainly have an ideal in this country that everybody pays their fair share. And that's kind of founding myth of the united states. And what we wanted to say. It's as mythical as george washington cutting down the cherry tree. It doesn't exist and let's step back. What are the consequences of not paying taxes. Well roads and bridges are crumbling and philanthropy. Doesn't fix bridges. There are collective problems that government and only government can solve and government needs to be funded. Okay so i would. Just go with some of the responses elon. Musk sent you a question. Mark which seems about right for him. I often question that was. That was a shockingly character and then nothing else often curses next just so you now to the curses coming next. So you haven't heard back from at all nothing else nope nope. No one of my favorite response was carl. Icahn who i've dealt with. He won't he sort of stumbled and wobble detect for a short time period. Then your team's interview with him. The billionaire basically group rich people poor people and apple altogether saying quote. You have no income. You don't pay taxes. They seem confused by the suggestion that a rich person to pay taxes. No matter what can you tell me anything else about these conversations. Carl was great is incredibly charming and was totally perplexed by the concept of needing to pay taxes so essentially what channels you texas. He was very kind of.

"Dot dot o. Wow you really left me. hanging there. Macintosh man that is a synopsis with dramatic value to it. Yeah it's semi. Carlos callers dots. It's everything that's right. I think that was an okay. I'm really so it up can't complain you know. I think if i had heard or read that before i watch me. That'd be a lot less confused watching the movie. 'cause i felt like well. Yeah they. they didn't explain much going into the movie in shall we i dunno. Can i start getting into my mom when i thought about the movie. Save it for now to know what we need to know how this film came to be for. We can talk about. How confused we gotcha. Okay so the story of the macintosh man starts with a writer named walter hill. Now are either of you familiar with walter hill. I am not okay scott. Okay so walter hill. Is i think at this point in the Twenty twenty one is when we record. This walter hill's probably best known as the writer director of forty-eight hours the warriors He's also a co writer and producer on the franchise. He co-wrote alien alien three. He had a story credit on aliens. He's definitely one of those very reliable writer. Directors who never quite had you know the massive fame but jonah fans really know him well he did like last man. Standing with bruce willis. He's kind of known for grittier. Action films heated Red heat with schwarzenegger so this early in his career. He's hot off the movie. The getaway which was the steve mcqueen thriller and he was dealing with a lawsuit. From warner brothers. Warner brothers was suing him for not delivering screenplay which was part of his deal. Now what are hill. Didn't really care. he was angry at warner brothers. Because they had sold a screenplay he'd written called hickey and boggs to united artists instead of producing it themselves that became in nineteen seventy-two thriller starring. Bill cosby and robert culp. It was a ice by reunion. Essentially more gritty thriller film by. That's what it became the fact that no one really is hickey and boggs since then tells me about you know how successful that movie was but needless to say walter hill annoyed so he was dealing with this lawsuit and basically they decided okay. He's got to write a screenplay he asked to do it pronto. They sent him a box of books told him to pick one and adapted and the idea would basically be like. I'll just grab a book adapted. I'm out good contract fulfilled later and he stumbled across a book. Called the freedom trap by desmond bagley. Now the book was sort of loosely. Inspired by a vm. And my six named george blake. Who was discovered in nineteen sixty one. Now he was sentenced to forty two years in jail but escaped in sixty six so after only about five years in prison and fled to the soviet union. Now as we'll talk about. What the mackintosh man. This isn't a one to one comparison but that was essentially the spring off point for the book the freedom trap and so walter hill wrote this screenplay Sounds like very quickly and he was genuinely shocked. When paul newman was lured in by warner brothers to do it. Paul newman at this. Point is one of the biggest stars in the world. one of the great american icons and for some reason. He was very excited about.

"Mike and vegas. He's up to here with dan. Snyder and i thought he was going to say where was. I thought it was going to get a lincoln quiz. I know where he died. I went to the fourth theater. Will he actually died. At peterson house across the street. But where was he born on february twelfth. Eighteen o nine because my grandmother always said i'm a hundred years younger than lincoln is. She was born february twelfth. Nineteen o nine in oakland. California abraham lincoln. He'll say he was born in kentucky. Yes you're right. Even though illinois land lincoln. I think kentucky also has them on the license plate sinking spring farm. That's right. I just love how they gotta throw sinking. It's not spring farm sinking. Spring farm dow his National birthplace museum. It's a huge thing with the setup that's in Larue county which is the same sort of area. But you gotta you gotta love sinking. It's like falling down castle sinking spring farm By the way abraham lincoln Universally beloved except in san francisco california because They are getting rid of the name. Abraham lincoln high school. They're getting read. I believe of sixty six names names of conquistadors and slum lords and anyone who has ever president of the united states the and and lincoln of course has been so lauded over the years. So i wondered the great emancipator. What was the beef and the beef apparently was that lincoln was apparently No friend to the native american so you. That's what the that's what the beef is your member who is vice presidents. Were i say vice presidents because yeah we remember andrew johnson but who was the the first term president one of my favorite names of probably the best name. Sorry kamala harris. The best name ever vice president hannibal hamlin. How great is that. Hannibal hamlin and you always think like. If you're from the south you gotta get the vote from the north. And if you're from the kennedy you think he wanted to big lbj. No he wanted to get your get somebody from texas. But hannibal hamlin was from maine. So what was that. The boston vote boston's the moon. Alright i think i went off on a little tangent there. By the way the raiders. Report that they're gonna cut tiro williams and they should. That'll take eleven and a half million dollars off the books. This is a guy signed from the chargers couple years ago. He led the raiders in receiving In two thousand nineteen And then like the last six games of the year he was out and he was a guy. Like whenever you played catch a touchdown pass number sixteen. We were fired up for him and then he didn't really play anymore. And then when he did he had drops and drops and drops and then this last season he tore a labor him and he was out for the whole year. So this guy who signed a four year forty four point three million dollar deal. So he's on the open market. He's six foot four. he's not bad. But he's injury prone and drops a floppy cotton tail but yeah eleven and a half million dollars for that guy. I think i take it passes armor tittle..

"The lions weren't in the super bowl. Although i will say this weekend i saw a snowy owl and that was a superb owl to see i had to work upon in there anyway. There are some michigan ties to the super bowl this year. That is correct There were nine people. Eight coaches one player who had ties to the great state of michigan. Actually make that ten former michigan state assistant. Who was on the buck who was on the kansas city sidelines. But the ones that i saw my one is picked out. I will go with the team. That loss to kansas city chiefs had chad henny who most remember from his as at michigan. Backup quarterback superstar big ten Levy on bell who. I didn't even realize it's on kansas city. I wondered what happened to his career after he left. The steelers and frank clark most recently from michigan university now for the victors. The bucks had six names. Six names i antonio brown the much-maligned receiver went to central michigan. Everyone knows time brady university of michigan. A seven rings. Every michigan fan is patriots slash bucks. Fan William golson who went to detroit southeastern and later on to michigan state university known for his infamous punch. Unfortunately you also have dominated sue. The defensive line destructor with the lions. Everyone loved him until he left. And then everyone did not like him as much one name. I'm surprised to see 'cause. I thought he'd retired a long time ago until someone tweeted a picture of him with his kids. Drew stanton of farmington hills harrison. Which is oh. Yeah now closed. He's still kicking around. Yeah i think he's probably gonna retire. I think he really wanted to ring. Go out on. Top farmington hills harrison michigan state. And then you know. His time with the lions i will say side note whenever i played madden. I'd always make him my quarterback because he was the most mobile of the lines quarterback at the time so you know whatever and finally coach for them who also super bowl when the steelers were one of the championship in detroit. Coach larry foot of pershing high school and michigan football. And i think he played a year at the lions as well. But yeah fuse the lines as well..

"Wants do or i should say. Mlb ones but think about when he came over from the tohuku rocketing golden eagles of nippon professional baseball that was in twenty fourteen and he signed a seven year. One hundred and fifty five million dollar deal and pitched all seven years there. It's pretty interesting. And then one more sort of minor baseball note. The phillies acquired infielders. Cj catherine from the red sox player to be named later and To make room on the forty man the phillies have the faa right handed pitcher victoriano. But the reason. I bring this up is that chatham was a guy who was so highly regarded in the red sox system for the last five years and he just can't make his way into the team he can't crack it right now. He's rated as their fourteenth best prospect he was at the Alternate training site this last year but he was a second round. Pick five years ago. He's been in triple a. For two years in he's over three hundred so the phillies see him as a bench. Utility guy For the infield that they can throw in there and Was he protected rule five. I guess he was but at a certain point. You think about the red sox for a player to be named later or cash they might have just trade them for cash but you get to a certain point where you're like this guy's pretty good triple player. He might have a future but we just don't have any room for him now he would say. Let's see trade. Mookie bats trying to trade andrew benintendi. The red sox stank after all these years of greatness. You don't have any room for me and happens and happens the plate of name later. It's probably a young kid. That's usually the way it works talking to a guy who worked in front office years ago is they'll give you a name of like low a. Guys like six names in you'll say pick one of these guys and you have a month to let us now. Let's just do the trade today. Pick on okay. we'll do our research armor to the lines are.

"A guest dr paul kelley. Welcome paul thanks. For having me only yeah. Great to have you I noticed that in your twitter handle you have narrow ball. Could you tell listeners. That beat about narrow boats and how fast they actually go. Very happy to try Let's get six name. Because it's only i guess about eight feet wide and it not navigates on the canals Sort of stay human built also ways that we have across the uk but of course in in europe and other possible as well and You know traditionally for moving cargo and austral- revolution five these days the recreational recreational ways that we have all the days so we can we walk around there about three three miles per hour. If you walk alongside even are and then every mile or so you jump off and A play with the law can help the boat rise off down to go over a hill. Something yes just a a wonderful way to to spend your time. So i only recommend if you ever get the opportunity to halacha. Yeah yeah what else staying in uk. I i saw quite a lot of those in in ways. And i i was in place I don't really know how to pronounce it in way. Well spot llangollen and they have these priests and you don't go under that fritz with the boat but you go on the brits. So it's a it's a big rates and you can go overnight till the debts. That's amazing amazing place. Yes this is a very famous bridge you described and it's spectacular and yes any of your listeners. You have an opportunity to visit. I highly recommend. Yeah yeah the way to relax going three miles per hour on kennel. So if we move to your personal and professional background how how did you come to this point in how. How did you move from travel behavior to physical activity shore. So i'm i guess. I'm a physiologist. By training i did my masters in in physiology sports physiology but towards the end of the course. I'm had a lecture from foster who kind of encouraged us to think about the population benefits of. I'm spoilt in activity as opposed to be performance. Siping looking at and this was kind of my first Steps into physical activity public health research and my dissertation with charlie ultimately my my phd and we ended up doing a project looking at measurement of i think as you mentioned in the introduction How how could self reported. Diaries travel logan of walking cycling. And and yeah. It was kind of looking at menton in great detail and come to try Understand some of the strengths and limitations and alleges that is really led me to focus now on things like evaluation which can rely heavily on on measurement and and also you know the science that we do suddenly the concentrate. Science relies on measurement in some way. So you know it's a really nice Avenue into into multiple different study designs and areas of research and new said about evason How'd you out to define the to what what is excellent difference between evaluation and research congressional To be careful because mine definition may may may not be the right one and may disagree with You know your listeners. And other people me. Research is is quite tightly bound by the radical constraints or heretical considerations and might might be bound by the paradigm and certain methods. You know we might immediately think of the evidence based sorry. The hierarchy of evidence from evidence based medicine privileging certain study designs study types either others whereas i think evaluation is is much more focused on real world decisions have to be made regardless of whether the perfect study design as possible and you know therefore we have to be flexible in our approaches to what we can learn about the world and we learn about policy and health promotion to try and at least offer some useful evidence for that for the next round of decisions decision. Making so you know. I don't know thousand your question. But i think it it. It goes some way to kind of outlining. How i might see the to is as not being exactly the same thing. Sam Mendes explains why he made the World War I epic '1917' — and chose to present it as one long take

"The upcoming film. Nineteen seventeen is an ambitious World War One drama co written and directed by Sam men. Does he made the Oscar winning American beauty to pull off his idea for how to shoot it. He turned famed cinematographer. Roger Deakins for nineteen eighteen seventeen deacons and Mendez. Set out to do something really difficult which was filmed the movie. As if it's all one continuous shot Mendez has back on theater which made shooting nineteen seventeen as one shot a little bit easier. I feel like I use a lot of my muscles when it came to staging individual scenes for example particularly in compressed spaces in the trenches and dugouts rooms. And what have you so there are similarities. The differences however that the landscape escape is constantly moving and the cameras constantly. Moving your orders to get to the second. A quasi would one mile. Southeast of the town of ACOUST- Mackenzie. It is a direct order to call off tomorrow morning's attack if you don't it will be it's about two people most of the time and in a vast landscape and tried to justice not only to their emotional journey but to the huge panorama of destruction that they're moving through and I'm trying to let the movie breathe in and breathe out whereas stage. You kind of just always breathing in when you look at playback Roger and you're checking to see of a shot works. How do you make sure that the shot itself works that you're getting what you need cinematic Louis and that you're getting performance and how do you? How are you score a certain scene to make sure that both are at the level that you're happy with I mean I don't WanNa fill much playback much I mean I was watching play back on this quite quite a bit but it was very different because the shots were worked out very well in advance the takes we were looking back? There were a small things to finesse. Maybe with the camera or something we might discuss about the relationship before the access to the camera the actors were to lined up we'll subjects. Yeah but interestingly when we've got it we almost never would watch playback. We just came out of our respective horsebox as which were often and miles away from where the action ended up. Because these people were the lads were traveling Hoffa mine in one shot and we look at each other and say yeah that's and I remember talking to the producer. Marc Abraham who made children of men and there are a lot of long takes in that film and he would tell me about calling the studio same studio universal and they'd say what he got for us today and he's like we don't have have anything we didn't get a shot so when you have a tough day what are the results and are there some days for whatever reason whether something else where you don't don't get a shot but you know that you're moving forward. Yes they will not. Today's we didn't get a shows but the great stroke of genius was was that Roger had the courage to say this and if we know in cloud we all going to be able to shoot saying most suicidal and genius actually mean gene. Sunlight was your worst enemy. Because then you can't match the sun comes out once in the film and that's the last shot the film where I wanted to come out. He arranged it cost him a a lot of money. But the the We told the studio and the first production meeting and to their immense credit. They did go a bit Pale but they didn't freak out and they trusted us that we were going to get it in the end and we were lucky with with with the weather having said that we also the hell out of it for months and months and months and we work very very hard and there were days which were extremely frustrating but they would generally forgotten immediately because you get the show and then you move on and you'll so thrilled exhilarate took got it. We're talking with SAM. Mendes Roger Deakins about their film nineteen seventeen. I saw the film last night and I was sitting next woman who for the majority of the film was in a fetal position. But the fact that this woman was viscerally fearful as if she was in a horror movie to me kind of spoke to the way I I am mentioned. You hope the film work's the key is that you don't want to feel as an audience manipulated so an that is tricky because you you aware that this is a real historic event and there's a certain amount of respect that needs to be paid for the people who lived through it and it's not an entertainment but at the same time you want people to fit fearing and Tara an adrenaline is exactly what they lived through long periods of boredom awaiting and then short bursts of Sotero. I think that the one show helps with that because I think you feel in a weird way pull-in claustrophobic that you know you begin to feel even if you don't intellectually understand that you've been to feel there is no way out Roger. Let me ask you this last question. And there've been a lot of films about World War Two and I think part of what your film gets at is that thousands of people died over hundreds of yards at the carnage in relation to the geography was incalculable. And if people are thinking about what happened during World War One and what might you hope they appreciate about this war that maybe they didn't fully understand now. I grew up in south of England in Devon on all the little villages and towns in Devin even have a monument in the center on the village. Green Ano- one in particular is got twenty five names on it. It's got six names games all the surnames. The same is got another five or the surnames. The same old. Those kids came from the same family. This is a little rural village in Devon and that's all over the country and it's so sad that those sacrifices have forgotten. I'm sorry again a bit emotional. It's I was brought up up seeing that and I always wondered what happened and I've been so interested in studying both the wars because of that I think think this film if it if it brings back some memory and some interest in it again. But it's I'm I gotTa say if we show what was really in some of the photographs that we saw in references. The wouldn't be anybody in the audience after five minutes. I mean it was

Lululemon names Calvin McDonald as new CEO

"And actually you. Can headline right on Lululemon Lululemon appointing a new CEO. That's Calvin, McDonald we're going to dig into that a. Little bit. More of course their former CEO left for some inappropriate behavior we're told we'll have to check. In at least briefly with our own Lindsey Rupp who follows that closely obviously a company that has grabbed a lot of headlines, over the last couple of years has done very, well as, a stock but that coming out amid a lot of earnings Texas Instruments. We heard, Charlie Pellett I'm talking about and we're digging it into it all right and waiting for Salesforce and AT and t. just the bigger picture. The s. and, p. five hundred kind. Of an even, split again today two hundred forty six names higher today two hundred fifty three lower six unchanged and one stock that. We certainly, heard a lot about today and that is Harley Davidson issue number one Never to gainer. In the s. and p. five hundred what's interesting is, I'm trying to figure out is that right up seven point six percent because they. Did cut their forecast for profit, margin this year by an amount that suggests it's finding a way to. Cope with all. The damage done by President Trump's trade war so the. Company may, be figuring it out and investors seeing that. As a. Good thing and that's because they mentioned the number two in the SNP that's because the CEO. Had said they are facing some headwinds overtraining turf and of course this is a company that President Trump called out specifically as, you know as someone who was quite unhappy with, yes he, was and apparently they're doing is they're speeding at the shipments to the. EU to, kind of blunt the impact of higher tariffs that were impacted fascinating to me we are really seeing more and more this come up you. Know not just, on conference calls but. Companies increasingly as, earning season goes on talking about this proactively sometimes even in their results and certainly before they can even get asked. The question When they start to. They start to talk about how they're dealing with us You know one name that I'm looking at JetBlue down more than, ten percent it appears and the. Headline on, the Bloomberg, six has double whammy hits outlook for revenue and costs and obviously you know JetBlue such big name and that is going, to has had the effect, of dragging down a lot of the. US airlines their forecast for rising expenses not. Making folks real happy out there I just want to. Recap, to Texas Instruments if I may let me just bring up the numbers, again just crossed. Here after the closing bell Texas Instruments. Seeing third quarter revenue a four point eleven billion to four point forty five and. That's maybe a little bit higher potentially on the higher end of. The range the estimate it's out there for about four point twenty five billion and we also have to have another one third quarter EPS a dollar for you went to. Dollar sixty three and that compares with the estimate of a dollar forty eight, that's out there in a quick check on Texas Instruments Here in the after, hours stacks, up about eight tenths of a percent well and of course Texas. Instruments again I feel like this is a constantly Texas Instruments CEO, just recently stepped down after only. A couple, months on, the job rich Templeton the previous CEO stepping back in there so investors looking for something to to sort of hang onto, with TI right now so, interesting to see how they interpret these. Because as you say pretty wide range the. Estimate fits in there but a pretty wide range of. We'll, we'll see how how investors in the street reacted in the low end, is definitely below. What Wall Street's forecasting but the high. End is certainly above it hey whirlpool is your number one decliner in the s.. And p. five hundred down fourteen and a half percent and again. Global trade war heating up and we'll pull apparently feeling the impact of it they said rising raw material costs hurt results in three out of four of its regional markets. Wow in the second quarter and that includes North America Asia and also at struggling Europe Middle. Eastern, Africa division so well these these global companies certainly starting to experience this in pretty meaningful ways all right. Let's get, to the volatility index report and the Vicks for the Tuesday trae just down. One point, seven percent Vicks closing, at twelve point forty you are listening to Bloomberg markets Carol.
