M. C. always such a great event you know my my buddy see years ago did the did the pan mass challenge and he said it was just one of the best best experiences of his life in and just wanted talks you ahead of the the big events so so how how's everything going you know with that with a couple weeks left to go well I'm not one to say it's a perfect plan because nobody's nobody's on the bike yet under our house today we are constantly you know we are well oiled machine but you know columns Saturday morning you have to have some sixty eight hundred people on bikes over forty seven pounds and three hundred and sixty bottles of MC infrastructure so so they give them a lot of stuff happens but most importantly it's extremely meeting for weekend for all cyclists and volunteers pretentious all of them back this year with the half a million she wants to show writing checks and as you probably heard BFS sixty billion dollar goals so that's pretty amazing to say forty years later when the first year we gave ten thousand two hundred dollars and here we are wow the big weekend it's amazing what it what away how far you've come that's it's incredible so maybe if you could tell us just about the founding of the PMC and how did that all start with you forty years ago well yeah after graduating college at the university of Denver nineteen seventy three in a different era obviously I don't talk to take off of a backpacking trip today Paul when my mother became totally able to balance no law and of course stayed home I drove the truck my dad when I went to the hospital three times a year and it was a pretty tough year we were very close family she died in June of seventy four and frankly of the next few years I lost my uncle my cause and and you know something invention was building up inside of me that he'll knowledge my life changed have lost loved ones but I want to do something about it and I want to do something about it and you have schools where if something came in nineteen eighty and I saw this one I'm going to do I would I do love what should be obsolete and and high school and college the church related to be what we should be involved or recreation down vitamix cycle and try acting and here I really start sliding and here I really started riding the bike around so we all you know about nineteen seventy seven and show which starred with hiding out of my dad's house in Newton Provincetown the hundred twenty miles at point my goal was to live catch the three thirty sorry home and get a beer that was pretty cool and the second time dollars sitting on the edge of something here what's more important here and you know an alright government side going you know there was trouble should be something more and I said okay by the ritual concept was that I would live alone from William some of the problems that that but I will again start to think more seriously about that my goal was to fund the cures for cancer that I needed to enlist in the army and denounced didn't happen overnight quite the contrary to Sir we got carded all the in the best sense of the word when you look at are you aware of what's happened sixty eight hundred lives four thousand volunteers as I said previously about a half a million people background checks figured that this money will probably be over sixty percent of the gym funds and will run after Farber this year so there's a lot riding on the house yeah or choose sixty million there you got forty forty years in two minutes well well in in you know every year as you as you interact with with participants out there you what what is what is the over arching message from them what what are they love so much about about the PMC I think we over video that I get a lot of thank you which is distilled beverage thank you for giving me an opportunity to do something constructive would wanted to happen to me or someone I love and you know this is this is real hands on and it's outboard speaking enjoyable every individual makes a significant contribution but collectively we make charge dropped yes every year and we've become yeah arguably the equivalent of living one's largest foundation with falling off you know all of this the last three years alone fifty two million fifty six million you know we're growing have large portion of the Jews here are forty years since nineteen eighty we've given six hundred fifty four million dollars and we take that will give at least sixty one million dollars this year yeah well what I should exported that the gold sixty but we have a a spear friends philanthropist entrepreneur at your current was said if we would raise our goal from fifty eight to sixty kicked in the millions if we make sixty so I promise you will make it that's awesome how much how much do does like a average participate raise the short I. happy incidence of wages and she's a man you you could ride one or two days seventy percent of the the Roger I should start with like seventy five percent on a Rogers and that guy or gal is followed losing one after ninety five hundred dollars it's remarkable the one that arrives far reaching above fifty seven hundred dollars and when the last few years we created the new group that doesn't impact our major infrastructure would choose from Babson college to socks are wet and Gillette stadium in back a twenty five or fifty rather than this role we now have retention fifty Rogers and you know cash flowing so this year totaling we're anticipating at least four hundred the war was usually gliders in the year ago that plus to challenge Graham clutch wonderful technological tools plus eighty percent a lot nine and that guy or gal eight nine years and that's in this extraordinary group of people right yeah yeah in in it's it's a far distance you know in in these people or or training for several months I imagine to get into shape to to ride there are dozens and dozens of miles about nine thousand dollars and you got that right yeah yeah a hundred and ten from Sturbridge on day one yeah radio back to I mean there was a long distance markets on production after the and I suppose one of my apple lime juice you know you don't have to buy two hundred mile stretch ten dollars a box you just have to ask if you get into this and be part of our sixty million dollar goal you know do this you will this away in the mission is very much to the center of what we do and I think that is all for to our group sure that this will be the thirteenth consecutive year of legal pass through one hundred percent of all water raged nothing there and that is just our full ju ju four people raising money hand door asking for money that being said it's also benefiting you know what a great cancers in the world the Dana Farber so all of the regions Cassie inspirational Lawrence well manage something we can just you know center charges into something bigger than that the the spokes that make up but we are right use that metaphor yeah the the logistics must must be real interesting out there of like you said hundreds of miles through all these cities and towns how how do you make sure that that everything runs smoothly out there well obviously we do our best you know we have hi I'm very fortunate that I have a wall and above the other thirteen of us full time they're not there search teams women's my balance here had staff managing hope sides world's communication medical mechanical all of the logistics that as you suggested forty seven thousand three hundred sixty miles since it's enormous but we got forty years at that cell tower infrastructure wallet has involved we open presents fall some comedy are growing numbers increasingly we've got tremendous support from creasing we've got tremendous support from all of the towns along the way that we would have tried getting up to the minute you know you start swinging officers however you look at Graham in which he shall five billion dollar industry this is the biggest event of its kind in the world and the fact that it's you know one weekend you're wrong admit that all of the participants can generate this kind of money you know it's it's a college your vehicle and you could ever hope to establish then again becomes a metaphor for the pride he like you know you don't shoot all the energy through the class can you move it forward well in this case at the end of the bike forward will miscarriage at the end of the day of the year old over one year options chapter it goes to the father and you know one seven hundred different initiatives and does a lot of good we put in the hands of the best in the country and back in college and to do their work which gets exported to the world what I call a big event yeah yeah I I remember attending couple years ago to to cheer on on my body and just the their camaraderie there the between the writers you know this this shared goal and and raising all this money for such a great cause after you know after that event and and he he was the van and and he he was he was over the moon just you know first of all you are sure sure sure it would be that speaks to your comment yeah five of ten years ago I got a letter from a woman and you know when I can still recite it as she was she wrote me shows how dumb the Boston Marathon invalid guns and gas challenges both wonderful events ical differences than the Boston Marathon people lined the road and they go you can do it in the team see people on the road may go thank you for life that's all the difference in the world end quote very powerful set yeah absolutely absolutely now you have like you said you have this Sturbridge too where does that go to the east service I mean about sixty percent of them starts Russian censored since problem like fifty fifty four percent and stir between forty six percent of Babson college in Wellesley a merge the worlds to merge seventy miles from Sturbridge certain search from Wellesley in the problem and then proceeds along the forty eight miles altogether to the end of day one that's a mass maritime academy award for multistate caught on day two the bulk of the event if you're too close to Provincetown the smaller group goes back to back out and then another eight hundred and fifty go the absence Foxboro faction there is your fiance all of the state right I should say central restrictions so you know we're to maximize all these hot sensible systems with pounds of the assimilation ships were built over forty years to really you know take as many people as we can safely K. raises much money as we can possible your minutes you know when you're in.

Let's say you take the all cash deal because you have to take your cash deal. But I there are some people are let them pay it out to you end up with more money. Like, I believe they're still going to have the money at the end Dobie. Don't be silly. I'll take it. So let's say you end up after tag. Let's let's call two hundred million. I'm coming up with a number. I think I'm I think I'm a little lab. Two hundred million dollars two hundred million dollars. There are no taxes to pay. That's what you have if two hundred million dollars through you out only five percent. You know, what take that back? One percent. That'd be two million dollars a year. I did the math. There are a two hundred million. Let's say it was ten percent be twenty million. And I just worked my way back to the one percent swamp since two million dollars, and we just throughout one percents two million dollars a year. The question is do you go back to work? I find myself conflicted because I enjoy this. I love what I do. However, two hundred million dollars is kind of fun. I can do anything to hundred million dollars. There are no rules to wear pants again. It's amazing is amazing and fantastic. So on Twitter at Tony cats. Do you go back to work or does it depend on the work? And do you think I'm great if I won. And I told you a million dollars would you find it crazy? If I was if I was back here in this chairman day, would you find that weird? Would you? Find it weird vows on this chair and not wearing pants. Right or do. I just have a home city. I just do it from there. I just had the microphones brought to the bed. It is a Trump. The level of life changing like what is it duty? And then everyone comes out of the woodwork. Right. Everyone comes out of the woodwork and is like talking about their charity, and why you need to donate. Here would be my rule. If you ask me to donate the answers. Now, if you tell me about your charity, the answers now, I know who I want to give to and I don't want to be. I don't wanna be bothered. I didn't want to be bothered at all Joe Biden spoke in Indiana. He was.

"Millions winner. The jackpot have been worth five hundred forty eight million dollars for Tuesday's drawing. It is now projected to hit six hundred fifty four million dollars or higher. I'm Barton Eckert. This is Bloomberg daybreak weekend. Our global look ahead at the top stories for investors in the coming weeks. I'm Bob moon in New York coming up a look at the agenda in Washington, but first we head north of the border or Canada is set to legalize recreational marijuana for more we bring in Bloomberg's Daniel Boko in Toronto good day to you Danielle Bob in less than a week Canada will become the first G seven country to legalize marijuana and policymakers big pharma and tobacco and global capital. Markets are all taking notes Bloomberg's David Scanlan joins me in Toronto, David nice to speak to you. Great to be here. Danielle, and I promise I won't Opole an Elon Musk on you and the great big joint on this podcast, although it might be appropriate. Even our topic might live up the discussion, but we will pass on that. And I'm gonna ask you first of all what this means for Canada. We have the distinction of leading the world in this area. What are some of the questions that other countries are going to want the answer as they watch us? Right. So it's almost. Like, prohibition two point. Oh, Danielle think back to the twenty s when alcohol was forbidden in the United States at a company called Seagram's was born out of that in Canada and made a killing so same same situation here. So on the government side, I think we're going to see is they're going to figure out how to regulate this and how to distribute it how to manage that had a police said for the company's side, they're going to have incredible first mover advantage to learn how to produce how to market how to grow this stuff. So the whole world is watching that. And it's a regrettable advantage for Canada. Now will it lasts forever? Probably not as this thing becomes more acceptable around the world in the US and Europe, we're going to see big companies big pharma big tobacco get into this space, but for now candidate in a sweet spot and as other countries do come into the space the market gets deeper. Are we talking about potentially pot someday trading the same way that other agricultural products like corner? Soybeans do where you have a really deep liquid futures and options market. Well, it's early days. But it's certainly possible. You have some of the. Elements that are needed for a good commodities market. You've got a physical commodity first of all it's a very volatile. We've seen that prices going up and down for some of these stocks. What's missing right now, though is a clear benchmark. You look at the oil market, for example. Right. You've got a WTI becomes a benchmark. There's a certain predictability with marijuana. You've got various streams various brands is not really clear what's going to be your standard bearer there. So until you have that probably weighs down the road. But there's an opportunity there for sure Canada, of course, used to really dominate trade in a lot of natural resources. Mining would be the big one. But that market has become a lot more fragmented in recent years. What's the likelihood that candidate becomes the center of a new kind of global pot commodities markets here you're starting to see that already? It's almost becoming the financial center because part of your legal still the national level in the United States. All of these US companies are coming to Toronto to list, their stocks. So there's a lot of trading going on. There are some days Danielle when four or five of the top most actively traded stocks. Actually, pots talks is not the big banks is not too big energy companies. So it's quite surprising. Also, a huge opportunity for the investment banks who are trading these stocks. They're doing all the underwriting for the equity deals. They're doing a lot of the advisory on the merger. So there's a huge opportunity here for the financial sector already in Canada, not without its risks though. You know, Canada's always been kind of proud of it somewhat staid reputation. And there's a lot of. Thought being thrown around these days about whether or not what we're seeing is is actually a pot com. Bubble incredible valuations for sure is it really frothy. Well, there's certainly a lot of people think it is exactly that I think the poster child for that recently has been till Ray small company in British Columbia that shot up as it went public at seventeen dollars pleaded or not just in July got up to three hundred dollars for a valuation of twenty five billion dollars. That's bigger than Barrick Gold. You can imagine. And so those come off that already come off a little bit. Here's what Brian tights at money manager avenue investment management had to say recently to be an end, Bloomberg if the US federally moves to legalize it. I think that is a game changer. Definitely I think there's still too much risk out there. And at the end of the day, none of these companies make any money. So. Yeah. Making money we mentioned twenty five billion dollars valuation has revenue of twenty million. So it's a little bit out of whack Danielle? Dave. Thank you very much. That's what we're watching. In commodities for the week ahead in Toronto. I'm Daniel Boko. Nice job. Now, let's head to our Bloomberg ninety nine one newsroom in Washington, DC, what items in politics and government are set to top the agenda next week for that we bring in Amy Morris, host of our politics policy power and law program heard weekdays at noon on Bloomberg radio. Amy. All right. Thank you, Bob. And we have less than a month to go before the elections that will decide control of congress. President Trump hitting the campaign trail, really hard and escalating those attacks on Democrats. The Democrats take control.
