"Rock. Your world took advantage of that profile. The medina's spirit didn't so there was a lot to me to like about him and some of the reaction afterwards. I think over works logic. Yeah a great. And i've driven that. I've tried to drive that point home as well The you know the working working Series of workouts that might be published for five or even six furlongs. But in fact they're seven eighths and mile workouts in essentially allen jerkins fashion and nobody else nobody else does it and i it you would think that that point would would be apparent but i but i've i've said jay that part of it might be that nobody necessarily has the relationship with the owners where they've they've been instructed or conditioned to be well aware that it's a gauntlet and the your horse may end up You know sidelined as part of the Being leaned on to get to this race. And there's probably i. I'm sure that's a difficult equation or conversation for trainers to have with owners You know that that. I can't guarantee you. We're going to get to the race. If the horse doesn't stand up to the red jamin it takes to get there and win well. But i'll give you sort of variation on that theme completely agree with that because from this context owners send horses to baffert because they want to be in the kentucky derby so.

"Payout in the. Empire six. Fields. All Asterix on Saturdays. The Pike Place Dancer Flat Mile on the turf for the two year old fillies field of eight set ago. Over the two I'm so Steve Sherman, and Frank Alvarado. To one second choice on the morning line consternation. Irish Bred Filly Patty, gallagher and eclipse thoroughbreds. Your mind five favorite on the morning line. And she should be the favorite and this should be a much softer spot for her than what she saw in her last start. She broke her maiden impressively del Mar on the turf to starts back coming from well out of it to win going away despite a slow start jumped up to face winters in the surfer girl last time out not only face the undefeated Madonna but face Tetra donal and pizazz. All three of those phillies are scheduled to run in the Breeder's cup juvenile fillies turf next Friday. Consternation was only five to one against those good phillies last time out unfortunately, she didn't she didn't run late she was five one she ran or like she was about twenty five to one. She got beat about nine lengths that day but this is a softer spot in the Pike, the Pike Place Dancer she's drawn well down along the inside I don't think the races got tons of speed, but there is a little speed in the race and I think consternation should be able to make up some ground against this field I like her at nine to five Johnny one of the king's open Pretty much the king now in northern. California he's got A. Maiden the number three missed your free. Daughter of intimacy out of a smart strike mayor plenty of turf pedigree there I like the way he is kind of brought this philly along to sprints on the all weather three weeks apart one on. Labor. Now, she gets the to stretch out to the flat mile twos. For instance, is one of my favorite angles she gets the. Turf which I think she's she's bread for. And I think she'll get a little piece in the I think. Think. I'm so ANNA IS GONNA try and bottomless this field out I won't be surprised if sweetest angel who ships up from Southern California for George Proper? Drum. Oh. Goes on a little bit of a mission glorious. The outside has a ton of speed she broke her maiden last out against California reds over the all weather at Golden Gate. So I think there's some pace in here I'm hoping it sets up for the maiden mischief free the two inside phillies make sense consternation I'm sonar as well I'll I'll I'll take Mr free boxer with the two eight, two, one on mischief free I. Hope we get it reached number eight on Saturday
Final Derby Dress Rehearsals
"The favourite for Saturday's travers stakes is the Belmont stakes winner Tis the law, the owners of the law, a group of fairly regular guys from the Saratoga area they go by Saka. Toga stables are the same guys who owned funny side the winner of the two, thousand, three, Kentucky Derby and preakness they showed up to each triple crown race in a yellow school bus, not a limo. It was a scene to which many of us could relate but I'm going to give you a comparison of two other. Owners of horses running in Saturday's travers they are and Lori Hall who owned the Third Place Finisher in the Belmont Max Player and Orlando and Jonathan Noda who liked their travers entrant I line are the longest of longshots George Hall is the founder of a Hedge Fund, the Clinton Group that company's assets reached a high of five and a half billion dollars in two thousand, sixteen. Orlando Noda is a thirty one year old trainer who co all of his horses with his brother. Jonathan who's in the car business? George Hall and his wife Lori sold a six level. Manhattan penthouse in two thousand seventeen for somewhere around thirty eight million dollars. Orlando notice biggest return on investment so far has been the horse not loves a fight who not claimed for ten thousand dollars in May of two, thousand nineteen and whose win a month later represented his trainers I ever. T loves a fight won four races for his trainer and finished second last week in the John Morrissey at Saratoga. You. Get the idea Max player for George and Lori. Hall won the withers stakes back in February and finished third in the Belmont. STAKES IN JUNE FIRST LINE FOR ORLANDO. Noda just earned his first win in four tries and he's returning on only ten days rest to take on an imposing field. But if his trainers story is any harbinger, don't count first line out and we are pleased to welcome to win the game for the first time the trainer of First Line Orlando Noda what went into the decision to turn this horse around in just ten days. The horse came out of it good and I nominated him prior to even run especially. Like figure that especially wasn't GonNa go I was I was GONNA test my luck there and restaurant him because. The horse had shown me talent ever since I had him and I think got strike while the iron is hot right now and everything is just clicking on all cylinders. So I. Think we're just going to give it a go is not every day that we can have a three year old peak at the right time via because of this corona virus that maybe I might might just be able to pull off the upset and get my derby points that that I high horse up about the beginning. You would said to a couple of racing aficionados over the winter that you had a derby horse and first line what made you think that then Oh no the horses super talented it from the first time that we breathed him. We knew we had something special. I'm not the lightest of riders and horses just noting on track with me and I just can't picture it. Any other way because everything has played out to where it should as he broke his. Maiden here in Saratoga and I think the past two races, six furlongs, it was just the the too short for him for his long strident. He just went comfortable and those fractions buying the mollering Nathan not many horses hold up biting the whole time that they are at the top of the stretch hometown in first line and they've been at it. Right from the START I line on the outside pokes ahead and front hometown continues to battle down at the rail. Now, they're at the eighth bowl it is first line and hometown go to battle for a mile and a furlong here first line hud and front hometown not giving up they come for the finish and first line is first under the wire. Race I'm wondering if he's even cooled out yet from that race, I mean that was affirmed and Alydar Rier Dan Against Jaipur was neck and neck for a mile and an eighth I mean, how do you think that part of a racist going to affect him the ten days notwithstanding? Even fresh I'm not doing much with him and. Keep Afresh to the to the race. Then you gotta show up on the race checking in, and that's how he is all game once it gets onto the track. IS A. Very level-headed. Once once he gets into training just like train I'm just giving just. Keep them -freshing raider fire. For for the drivers.
Woodbine Revised 2020 Stakes Schedule Starts Tomorrow
"Colony. What's being? Was Our industry starved the week presented by Stuart. Morris Equine Forum tomorrow morning, eight to ten am eastern time serious to nineteen excellent to a one stream it live horse racing radio. Dot. Net all right up at woodbine couple of stakes, races, tomorrow, Mile, and a sixteenth greed, three trillium on the all weather up there We. Get a field of eight phillies and mass. To Go The eight and a half furlongs. This was a tough one. I thought body. There's a lot of wage going here. Yeah I'M GONNA take a little bit of stab here. I'm I'm wondering. If number one super escape can steal this race. To me. It looks like she's the only true speed in the field. Maybe number seven another time WHO's shown. Very moderate speed at times, but I think if they break evenly. Super Escape is faster. She's been sprinting. Relax too I think she's better routing than she is sprinting. In fact, she's two for two on non turf surfaces. Atta Mile and a sixteenth including one for one on the all weather at Woodbine. She's got the inside post I think she's going to get out and go and her good racers good as anyone else. She's ten to one on the morning line one. I'd be most afraid of is number. Three art of almost Herat Field Emma Jayne Wilson Mason last time out. On the turf at Woodbine and She's run well on turf, or on the all weather axes been in the money, all four starts on the all weather at Woodbine, so I would expect art of almost to be the one who's closing most at super escape. I'm an both of them, but super escape at ten to one interesting. Nice price is price even better prices being at home The Keep in mind by the way the seven another time cross entered in the royal north, so we'll see where trainer Barbara minshull decides to run her daughter of money. She's cross entered in the very next race. That will talk about a minute or so here Like you I wanted to go a little bit of a different direction here I'm GonNa take the six painting for Josie Carroll. Who stretching out of for the first time old for races have been sprints. She's closed nicely. And all those Frenchies by distorted humor out of an AP in the mayor can't imagine a stretch out. It's GonNa hurt her 'cause probably bring her into the race a little earlier as well I I I thought she was a little interesting in he I. Don't know why she hasn't been lot that bugs me. All know why she hasn't been long yet in her career, but I will I'll try and get painting turns Josie. Carroll trains dollar store. Store, Jim, the six painting from me in the trillium race number nine grade to royal north six furlongs. On the turf, the outer EP Taylor Turf Course. Again. We'll see what another time does she to one in the trillium? She's five one of the morning line in this royal north we had a field of nine depending on graduates. And I leaned a number five sister peacock once again thought she might be the speed of the speed. She's got a win. Third Place Finisher tour credit in two tries on the turf at Woodbine.

"Budget stakes. Nita will start in re number four bobby the desert code named after the two thousand eight turf, Sprint winner I believe we just kept turf sprint winner down the hill. I believe it was two thousand and eight five and a half wrongs. Maybe, it was oh seven, not sure five and a half furlongs. No more hill We feel the six. And it's unfortunate I wish they were still running down the hill, but now we get five and a half furlongs on them were conventional turf course, and there's plenty of speed as you may expect in this race number, one Phantom boss number five party town both the speed of the speed plane, and simply I think number. Four rookie mistake is better than this field. She's been in the money. All four tries on the senator turf course to. To wins two thirds. She's learned how to sit a little bit off the pace and come with a bit of a run. Six furlongs looked like it was a little too far for her last time out five and a half furlongs. I think it's a right between the eyes or hit. It's m right between the eyes and I think rookie mistake at five to two is a horse that I would single if I'm playing horizontal wagers. Bobby Newman, perhaps saying. She because the number two, she's so special on the boys. She beat them last time in an entry level allowance optional claimer where it appears. She was in for the tag. She'd runs through conditions. She was in for the tag. Nobody claimed her now. She's two to one morning line favorite. Boys in the desert coat. She is a perfect two for two at five and a half promos. Don't let the distance marker in the region form full you. They clump in the five furlongs in the five and a half. She's a perfect two for two at five and a half furlongs Peter. Miller That's landed the deuce to Philly against the boy she so special race four goes at the desert

"The state reds will be on display. Here at the big tomorrow Broadway. It's a hundred thousand six furlongs four. The state bred fillies a field of six. The exact from the lava. Dodd back in here. That was going seven eighths. This one's going six cash offer collared and ran down kept true that day. That was going seven. This one's going six. She lives at one of the favorites. Big rebound here. We go somewhere else. I ended up going with one of the choices but I thought it was a really competitive field for for just a six pack. I thought they got some some good players in here. Cash offer The morning line favorite has really. Reinvented herself the last couple of starches. Become able to sit and make a run even though you know. She's still one of the quickest breakers out there The cutback to six furlongs concerns me. A little bit With her I know she likes the trip. It concerns me from the inside draw Horse I was interested in was the one out of orbit as well if the race was a little bit longer than six. I might have taken a shot with With her as a price she's turning back from the mile and they've bay ridge where she found herself on the lead for very tepid fractions tired late. I think she's going to be strong. My concern is her breaking from the fence and the short trip all the way turning all the way back to six furlong so I'm going to try and get her in the money a little bit. I'm still a fan of the number. Five kept true with the speed to her outside. I think she just going to let the speed six stones in the road go the cutback to three quarters. Promise of a fast track this time. I think that can help. Make the difference. I'm going to go with G. Ahmadi and kept trip. Yeah so AM I. I like the fact you know. Both of these phillies are accomplished at six cash. Offer End Cap Jones. To be honest. I don't think anybody else win. This race My late pick five. Pick four it'll be those two and that'll be the end of it I'll say this I think and I know cash offer three for five with two seconds at six furlongs I think the cutback benefits kept true. More I did. She has a little struggle right even the six and a half furlong way. She won At Belmont Park. She was fresh that day. That's when she's GonNa WanNa do that. I just going six furlongs. It's a little bit more of an edge to kept true. She gets back on track as well. I'll take kept true over cash offer. They're the only fuel phillies. I'm using in the hundred thousand dollar Broadway. It goes race eight on the nine Ray. Saturday called here at the big a post time all week. presidents. We've we have racing on Monday here. Derby Hopeful Independence Hall Among The Horses 'Testing The Waters' Saturday At Tampa Bay
"Ocean night for Trainer Care McLaughlin stacking stamping himself as one of the top OP. Three roads in the country at that point is we know he would come back in the Tampa Bay. Derby things didn't go. According to plan that day he would be given a break and then continue on throughout the rest of his career but ocean night. Very very talented and Kieran back in the SAM. F Davis later this afternoon with Alisa. We'd who is another horse. That has a lot oughta talent and Karen with me now on the horse racing radio network here in good morning. Good Morning Mike how are you. I'm well my friend. How about yourself? Great Oshawa lead. This is a horse that you know has ability has shown it throughout his entire brief career. Last time out runner up behind shot ski in New York. Tell me a little bit about Asia. We where is he right now. He's on the van had into Tampa is A really nice big curling colts with Great Mind does everything right and he wants to distance of you know as far as they write the races because we feel like so. That's a good sign for going forward but Unlucky to lose Robson last time it came from well back doc just just missed came out of the race in good shape. I'm talking to Rick Nicholls. We weren't sure what we're going to run. But we're happy to get him back in the talk to that top. Yes it's interesting. You talk about the distance factor in hill as long as they can write the races he debuted at Saratoga. Last August. I at six furlongs. He was fifth that day kind of had an inside trip and then came back at a mile. You stretch them out and boy did he show his true colors that day. He drew rafter win by more than four lancs. Yeah that was a big effort. We knew wanted to go further. Most of the time horses improved. Second can start third start to. Hopefully he'll keep improving. We have to prove today to to beat this independence hall. He's very talented. So we'll see how it goes but we're ready to go. Have you gotten a chance to see independence hall in person. I did see Him I saw his hind feet kicking up The rams no that's wrong. Yeah so tough to the side of my cat is handful Craig job with the horse and these very talented very fast horse today. There's some speed hopefully entertained entertained similarly cross because we'll be well back making along that race track Kieran is different than a lot of surfaces. At least I've been told that Ah from your perspective is a guy who won more than fifteen hundred races in his career that that track at Tampa. Hi How would you describe it vary Sandy. Hi flays Nice job. Sometimes it can get a little bit speedy but today there's there's a lot of patient or raise so a horse going to get an uncontested lead is pretty fair track and the main thing is for us with his source. At this time it was either. Go Up for the withers servers. And you didn't want to go to Al Queda in on a deep hiring tracking them on eight. I start back this year. And and Holy Bull is Speed favoring short run into the stretch at Gulfstream so we didn't really want to that so so we we had to think about it but we side to go here to get started them. We'll we'll make plans after to go next but just this. Hopefully it works out for us. Yeah I was going to ask you. That question is is. You were mapping out his early season course here have you. Have you thought that far ahead is to if if things go well today. Do we stay there for the Tampa Bay. Derby do we go to New York if you really given it that much thought yet or you just get past today not too much but York we will well not do next one. Is the Gotham one mile so We could end up for the wooden Morio there but we have a lot of obsolete in Florida and Tampa so a lot of different options though this take it one day at a time so literally one one day at a time. We'll figure it out. How about the inside post position? Going a mile and a sixteenth at Tampa. Well it's okay It's fine because oncoming from off the pace yep in that one we'll say ground down inside and like I said there's a couple of really fast horses and we might find ourselves even last talks to last but Joel Ario the faster. They go further when I get back. But he's a great rider and times. He's moved well. This hopefully take time at a fast last talking trainer Care McLaughlin here on the horse racing radio network. Karen how do you. How do you approach approach in view these early season prep races? Well like I said we're just happy to get back to the racist. Get Him in a starting gate. Agai- you get a race under his belt and then we take it from there and just see where to go next but you just want to get back to the races and have a good performance. We don't I'll have to win today to still feel like we have a derby horse or of course point that way. It's three zero Tom. Years Great to have a nice. Oh so he'll tell us Where we go and how it goes you know we won't force the Derby on but hopefully takes US A? It's a great eight point and you and I talk well. It seems like every year. Now you and I have a chance to catch up in the spring a couple of times making your way down the road to the Kentucky Derby and that's a great position for you to be in because it means that you're getting live three year olds that are making their way toward the first Saturday in May Have you. Have you changed your approach or tweaked anything over the years in terms of trying to get a horse to peak on the first Saturday in May when you get there. I know how much you want to win it not not really no we We try putting much do the same thing we try to get there. It's a lot about the horse and And you you just hope that you do get there with a nice sound hoarse. And even the best shot to to get their win but We've run fourth three. He Times second once. It's a tough race to win but the price there a quarter of these days also I tell everybody that just to get a horse in the starting gate in our sport is a major accomplishment. And then if you're lucky enough to win a race any race. That's a huge accomplishment to get to the Kentucky Derby current put that in perspective for me. Yes it's very hard to get their twenty horses there and The prep race. It now become come very important because of the money behind them. Two million dollar racing to buy one billion dollars craps everywhere. It seems like so they're important to for a horse down. Nice China when some of these races and the Kentucky Derby the Kentucky Derby everybody everybody dreams about time to win it and It's great to have a horse to that. We think has a chance to get so often when we watch golfers was on the PGA tour. They'll talk about not looking at the leaderboard throughout the round the Kentucky Derby earning spot in the starting gate is based on points as it has been the past ask several years. Do you even pay attention to the points. As you're going down the road or use figure okay. If I got a good enough horse the points will take care of themselves. Yeah that's that's the way you have to look at is. The last crap is so important. And you don't want to run if you're not running well by that but I you know in April roller to you. You made all the points of those races so If the horses takes us there the points of will be earned and you know. We won't not door obviously. We're talking about obsolete because he's in the spotlight this afternoon in the grade. Three Sam f Davis but are there any other cure McLaughlin. Three year olds olds. We should be keeping an eye on. Well we only nominate one other one in that SPA city and he actually runs today and I made some a at Gulfstream and he was second last time and still Green Bay Colt by street cents out of Sarah Louisa. He's that we think he has a chance to to get there. Get his maiden broke today. We could possibly have a horse for the Derby. But it's you know he has to break his bait and that's take us there or the preakness or something or the Belmont. So he's He's a talented code. The only other coat with how he is as good as it gets he is trainer. Care McLaughlin here on the horse racing radio network here and always so generous with your time. I really appreciate it all the best with Odua this afternoon and go get it done. Thank you very much perhaps.

"Seem like really get us we paid him our best value play of the day over the number five premium force is having a great year he refers glass or so obviously in great form and then shot of a lifetime is also in very good form to its last four and like it that he'd be playing through last time but I think the world could get reversed today whereas playing through might be the speed you might put a ship out of a lifetime into that shape mon wed Latin it was reversed and playing through a disappointment so when a go for rebound a plane six to one and I think that those are the top three one five seven I quickly in our final two eight three six furlongs and this purse of thirty nine thousand wine and whiskey the seven will be a two to one morning line favorite over should be illegal number two at five two two yeah I know that eight horses here about four five are coming out of a common rate there was a strong one on October twentieth wine and whiskey was making its debut in that race as was Johnny Padres the far outside and then should be illegal was up on the face that day as well as he the hit so this is a tough race we got a couple decent looking first timers and then a bunch of course is coming out of that strong race on October twentieth I think that Johnnie progress on the outside number eight it eight to one is very good value he ran kind of a sneaky good rate he didn't get off quickly he didn't show any speed in the morning but he kind of worked his way through the field and finished with decent enough run that I think second time out could be key for him he's by grazing which has been a very good California fire even jadi the trainer he keeps Irving Orozco for the second time start here I think second time starter Johnny Padres looks really tough here eight to one good value and of course wine and whiskey who finished second in that race in his debut at twenty to one he ran probably the best rate of this group that day out of that strongly because I was mentioning and it should be illegal set the pace and just touched out by one with you so those are the top three for us we were eight to seven but it looks like eight to one on the far outside offered pretty decent value okay in our final thirty seconds we're gonna go one mile to close out the day and Kevin Kruger will be aboard the zero one morning line favorite numbers six kittens while yeah like kittens roiling here but I'd like on the key at four oh one on the far outside with Irving Orozco he was our best bet of the day for one looks like a great value I think Irving Orozco the last few times he's written and whirl win and a second where he was getting to the winner with every stride typing on the key I love this track seven for twenty four love the distance nine for thirty six even all weather specialist is nine years old but I think he's in good form and I think.
Steve Haskin Discuss What Is True Horseracing
"Listen I don't WanNa put a damper on things or anything but you know to me. This was not was not true. Horse racing at least as I know it And I I will say that the grass races were were all good. I have no problem with that but after after that a lot of things that just get ugly for me you know. I don't WanNa see horses and jockeys coming back on on a track labelled fast looking like they just been rolling in the sandbox I realized being zealous in their attempt to make detract safe which is understandable expandable. But in my opinion they did. They did at the expense of the racing I mean who's who says you have to make a track excessively really deep and tiring to make it safe. I mean they're they're faster race tracks. I go back look at the aqueduct over the years and they're all in in highly even even the old old Santa Anita track was always safe. Saratoga I mean these are basically safe racetracks. You know so. So what's going on now. I can understand but sometimes you can overdo something and you know. And as much as as I liked Vino Rosso in the classic and you know one all kinds of bets on them To tell you the truth I can never ever watch that race again for abuse reasons to search too much 'cause actually liked Mongolian groom ally and and actually thought at one point in the race that he looked like he was gonna Finish in the money but you know all the repercussions of that. which most I think most of it is just nonsensical? In fact I just read somewhere that you know the vet came that came out. The trainer came out and said it was perfectly sound. You know and understand these things happen. There's no there's absolutely no blame here at all. Just the fact that it happened. That hurts just like it's hurt from all the other incidents in fatal fatal incidents in the past. And you know I go back I was there for roughing it. I was there for go for one. That was there for prairie by you. I mean there for a lot of witnesses and every time you go through a little bit out of you and you know I I I just sort of get attached the Mongolian. Groom not only from a betting standpoint but I just like the connections and and the and the the horrible irony of it is the fact that you know right after the race. He stated emphatically that. They're not going that they don't want to put up two hundred thousand dollars and and then you figured some offers would come in to to get a piece of it and put up. Put up the the supplementary fee and they said you know now talking to date decided to change their mind put up the money and and and then this happened so I know how absolutely devastated everybody. Everybody was there So but you know that's not even what I'm talking about when I'm talking about About the debris come you know I. I just don't want to see the best distance. Sources in the country stagger home the last half a mile and fifty two seconds. That's not resource time time I you can make the track slower and slower and slower but it was weird because the the formula was the same old data. We're going faster early legitimate. The sprint races were run fast but I mean come home the last year from fifty two. I mean that's ridiculous and you know it wasn't that the horses were bad. It was at the race crack. You know that. They poured truckloads of sand on the day before the Breeders Cup. You know and speaking of the classic Nick and that Racetrack. I certainly don't want to see the V to bed. Closes in the country. Never even pick up their feet and get beat fifteen lengths and seventeen links like they're running through quicksand. And I had agreed with Doug mcgann. He's original plan to skip the Breeders Cup and was totally against it when they change their mind. I knew the odds were stacked against them. Being three year olds shipping West I quoted that statistic that they were over twenty two in the past. I and especially with the track favoring speed at that time and I had no idea that it would get even worse for him when he got there and I don't think I don't think shook did either either. I think he was Kinda surprised how how track was playing how deep it was and how come from behind horses were were just spinning their wheels. We also hallway so you don't WanNa see that you know you just don't want to see any kind of track bias when you've got the championships at stake. I mean it was a lot at stake. Code of honor but you know so. Now he's got to End His Campaign very ingloriously. But that's just the beginning You know you look at Look at the beach I mean I I I don't WanNa see arguably the most exciting and talked about horse in the the entire Breeders Cup. Who's been on just off the pace going six furlongs to a mile in an ace in every one of his starts eight and a half lengths back at the half mile? Call all of the dirt mile and still five lengths back at the poll. You know. He's he's still runs one of the best races of his life despite the track and he can't even get close to you know I'm not taking anything away from spun to run but he can't even get close to that horse. You know who was beaten nine links in the Haskell who I I was at parks when he beat gray magician by heading the smarty Jones he ran well in the Pennsylvania Derby but he's still fit and then suddenly turned into a superstar overnight. Overnight gets a one ten buyer and some small stakes at parks despite never having run a triple digit Byron his life so I mean Karama beach I mean even to get close to that horse and to come from that far out of it and where the heck was cold front you know in twelve career starts. He's I've been on the lead or within a link to the lead in every in every start in the met mile. He's on the leading forty four and one for the half but in this race he's running V v six and a half lengths off the lead. I mean I don't get that. Where was he so you want to run? As soon as he went out there you know and opened up to three lengths. She said nobody's nobody's going to catch the source on this racetrack. And like I said I thought I thought the Omaha Beach Randy terrific race to get second and even staying with the dirt mile. Yeah I don't WanNa see the second and third choices you look improbable and Mr Money. who were both being very highly touted touted By their trainers and many of the experts. And who would training brilliant leaguge swimming out there never picking their feet up then got beat nine of ten ten and three quarter lengths. You know now you get to midnight. Be Sue I don't WanNa see the best filling in the country unable to make up an inch aground. In the last days the mile with a final creates run in under forty seconds. You know what in the world we should be doing running ace at the top of the stretch You you know I mean it was a was it. A bad ride was just bad. Racing Locke was was big track. I mean take your pick but affiliates not supposed to be that far back and and if you watch the race you could see blue price who you know. Give her credit you know. She wants to come from off the pace but he had a made her she had to make a move move back stretch and it had lead ready at the eighth pole you know and then you know finally you look at Friday. I don't WanNA see your race with into the strongest W prospect. Seen in years. Completely fall apart. You have a forty five to one shot at twenty eight to one shot and thirty nine to one shot come from first third and fourth to finish one two three and the three to two shot running second stops to a walk getting beat over twelve lengths. You you know and then you know meanwhile before five shot and erase stumbles at the start and finish dead last so to me. That race was a total bust. In fact to tell you the truth by the way if somebody had told me a week before the Breeders Cup that we were GonNa see the Derby favourite less weekend and it would not be a it would not be any of the three favorites more. Would it be scabbard. Nor anybody else in the juvenile but it would be the winner of the national stakes the next day by far and away the most impressive two year old. Maybe most impressive overseeing the team your weekend and then you go to the other dirt race. On on Friday juvenile fillies you know we have to brilliant phillies coming off. A dominating wins literally staggering home rubber-legged in in an agonizing slow twenty seven three and seven and two for the last sixteenth of a mile. I didn't raise sources. Could run that slow so to to me. You know this is just one. I'M GONNA forget very quickly but this would have forgotten about it by now. If I didn't have to talk about out of here I listen. I'm sure I'm sure a lot of other people feel are being too harsh. But what can I do. It's just the way I feel. You know maybe it's just I've got too many Committee races behind me.
It's a Funny Time of Year for Horse Racing
"D- William Hill Air Gold Cup went to Angel Alexander for Tom Dascomb and and Richard Kingscote growl running his usual good race back in second. He's real consistent horse to be fair. Gulliver sound effort in third and we had the massive orange plunged job of buffer zone at bombed and bombed badly. He did finish George Bone to be fair. So at least you got one little bit the result on the Angel Alexander a huge win for Tom DASCOMB Steve Well. We'll stick with you to start this off three year old in a handicap recap very valuable one at that a surprise winner but a very impressive performance today yes surprised when a with the Pricey he went off twenty eight to one and he's been bigger in the MON thing but this is a whole sued one three times earlier in the season and run until badly chested from wide drone orange previous start so although it's easy to say off the top the John's but I was really impressed with in seemed to be drawn on the wrong side while sitting in the small all it group and I always think when you look at these big handicaps the only solid you wanna bail away you. WanNa be's where the Pacers and it's it all seem to have low so the fact that he was able to come down the stand side an hydro and he was I think three three or four lengths ahead of the neck extols It was very impressive in the fatty unexposed over six furlongs. I only the second three roles on since two hundred to two thousand three's it's point still a very progressive sprinters probably. GonNa have a decent season next year. You'd like you think so. You'd certainly like to think so rory. What was your take on the dark angel getting the win the William Hill Air Goal to give it its full title I wouldn't I wouldn't massively disagree with the commission's been made so far I just wonder whether of it of a twilight horse in terms of his racing defy defy the he'll have to go up to pattern company. Nick Season Eastern East finished three last year. The of the next woman is side of the tried back on. It's easy to say you mark them up for that. Because the rest of the placed horses were on the Far Side I do think that major jumbled in a hell of a lot of good though so it gives them a really good tool and it's all it's all very well. Concentrating on more is wasn't say well look at Cyber Fair but when the when the nearside win the race this they're not they're not done to sometimes we can get at tangled up in in you know horses being potentially better than the results. and again we've had this discussion time on the on the on the podcast abide what are considered to be draws but of course keeps winning from what I meant to be standing joke about winning from sole twenty plus over model and a half and Oscar going that must be a hell of a horse to win from not draw. I do it every single year so I'm not convinced that he was better than the result but in saying he's he's unexposed those sorts of conditions additions a big field sprint over six furlongs in a lot of his form has come around a band or unsightly very different tribes to wear so given conventional taxis improves and he's wanted clearly so he's all potential to do well nick season. I just wonder whether he will be the kind of buying in his head against a brick wall against horses or you know ten twelve points better than Heyman group threes and twos next year he certainly it'd be just this morning not capable of winning a couple of listed races but they'll have higher aspirations for them not might not be quite as easy as it looks because we sometimes talk about the listed group to group three even group one sprints depending on the type of quality that you have in in given seasons as really not being that far off handicap company that you can see horses make the progression from handicaps to even group but certainly the group to group three listed level it. It doesn't always take a huge amount to break into that. I just wonder about this performance if he deserves all the praise in the world and he's beaten not really solid yardstick and growl who second the race in two thousand Sixteen Yada Yada Yada runs his honest race Blah Blah Blah but if Roy Rory's point is absolutely spot on that these races are difficult to win. Steve sometimes they're difficult to back the winner of you often see a big price to winner and they just kind of keep beating themselves and so deliver this horse and his performance where he storms through to mow horses down and think right. They've got him now now. They know what what he is. There's going to be more to come or if that was indeed his day in the song then we should be deleting them from the tracker and looking for something else later in the the season possibly early next season. I think if he was five year old or something like that he yeah you could see that but what he's GonNa law in his favor that in the final easy three zero and he's unexposed over six furlongs. I think I was only is gonNA third run run over six furlongs in in one of those listed racist gesture when he was doing very why and the fact that he's been running round places like Gesta Sta just because he's been running. They're able to win that. When he's been awful a lot lower rating it doesn't mean that he's ideally suited to it and it showed on a straight track what he's put in his best performance so he's unexposed in several facets of is a homeland and he's only three road so you would expect to natural improvement for next season that I wouldn't be surprised if he was up to certainly group three level and the funny thing is with growl finishing second. I think when he finished second a a few years ago he went on to hit the frame in the group one on Champions Day at a massive price so light you say completely agree that the fact that handicappers is instantly inform handicappers winning these big races which on easy to win these big failed handicaps they can find the step up to two certainly group to group one level even easier than it might look at a time when you you think if a whole wins a mile and a half and the recap the Johnson stepping up into Greek ones easily. It's pretty remote. was there anything in behind. Steve that took your fancy with regards regards to possibly the sprintone champions day or for another big handicap either early next season or before the end of the season. was there anything in behind that that AH well there was a few that I thought were interesting. the the problem is with later in the season. Nive the likelihood likelihood of them getting decent grind is pretty unlikely it's not certainly it'll rain from now until the end Italian or certainly in the end of the year but it as a look out the window. It certainly looks well set in and we're GONNA get easy grind prevent. Yes I'm sure but the the two I thought ran better than that position all certainly run really well because they both finished in the first a half dozen aside. Every CBA was one of David Omar's who seemed to miss the break didn't get the clearest run through and also is in that middle middle grind where he was drawn high ironically the winner obviously withdrawn a bit higher but decided to go over to the far side where that the main body of the field race and he was finishing really well and the fact that he didn't get the clearest run through years of host it does like have to have things drop his wife if you go back to his French form and we all know that David Omar is done exceptionally exceptionally well with his friend French imports like glitters and he's group foam in the bag so I think next season we might see a a ever see boat winning one of these handicaps the other one was embar- of Richard Hannon's. I thought he was a bit inconvenience by being right in in the middle when the pacing to be either hard against the fall rail always rory said with them the angel is on the getting a good lead from aged jump by so dynamic didn't seem to be the place you want to be racing in the early stages where both embar-. Anisi Bo came from and I think and then might be right is in them whether it's later on in this seasonal rim early next season was quite a bunch finish as well. Let's say major jumbo actually did well considering. He had to cut out all the donkey

"What a important win win for for him when it came to code of honor and the travers get an american. I mean this is. It's a quasi classic mile quarter this time of year and we talked on monday was sug- about <hes> we really didn't get in other than and other than to reference the slight the slight amusement that sugar had it receiving a noble mission and he said what is sending me this for sending me an old mission well. He's made the most of it and i am not to mention the fact that the colt made made late late late may fall and for him to do what he's done already kind of exceeded some expectation. I imagine there's said fernando joining us sire watch pedder refocus brought to you by hill and dale save good morning morning said he first before we talk about noble mission and what this means for for him and for his prospects ex <hes> going into next season but your overall impressions of the race <hes> it was <hes> i get something every we touched upon several of these voices the week before you know kind of an open race and <hes> i guess i was the most surprised that <hes> you know maybe i shouldn't have been the gary speed of facets <hes> which is kinda surprising you know he's a horse that it should eventually get a grade one race and he's on his resume and each potential standing for who are jet mont but the rates really set up for <hes> double mission seen mike got out of part of the track easily anyway was playing <hes> really well and getting why he's yeah great words are just kind of confirming you pointed out to delay foale joy align confirming last year rates to those always a worthy winner i and in a lot of ways is it just a display of sheds just tremendous mendes management of of a horse and you that that to me knowing for starters i mean the the way in which he broke out as a two year old and you didn't necessarily you know we are pointing pointing out that he was a may foale and and physically in terms of age younger than anybody in the field and all that and really younger than any of the prominent members members of the crop however he broke his maiden august eighteenth that last year as a two year old they did at first asking going six furlongs and ito given the way shook trains and given that pedigree you really wouldn't you wouldn't necessarily expect him to be successful. I mean a lot of times that quickly <hes> because notably we've talked about this with him for years said when he's got a precocious horse with some speed.

"He'd be nobody. That certainly wasn't the case case in this. This race hurt the down inside. You know didn't rose raise US down inside in in frenzy really unfortunate right going outside. Nobody was coming close to period him that race. He was tremendous as far as a lot. I don't even know what to say. It was one of the most jaw dropping performances I've seen since since as the most sharp words concedes derogate. I was let me that was bad field. <hes> normally twelve leg win like that or more result. WHO's behind the Horse specially going six and a half of the dirt and it wasn't I mean we're behind good. You know nitrous a good horse honest vicious a good horse there were other courses sources narrow and there were literally two races taking place he was in a race by himself against the clock and the others were the race. I think somebody says investments that said Bite your sixty one and you know it would make sense to me. It's almost sort of a joke but it's also sort of true right. You couldn't even write it yeah. I mean watching it. I think both communists I turned around a set where we're just running the eighth pole just to sort of watch him. Go by on the track. Okay okay. I saw it like I don't believe it but I thought it was it was I mean it was like they ran a quarter mile and Thompson to me and said this race like yeah that was you could tell it was not some goofy horse off to a big league you know the first batch was fast and it was twenty one seventy eight or seventy nine. I think that that's what pretty much more basically with the wrong run up to the six apple raising. That's not that point to in one year. Twenty two and two is six furlongs you you can say did he benefit for slow. I horrified but saying is. It's not like he was going quickly was five or six in front of the field right the couldn't keep up with them at that point and it was just was. I know it was late in the day and I understand why people were frustrating run like that at seven forty five on Sunday. I get it but forget about that. If you haven't seen it make sure you watch it because it's probably the performance of the year yeah yeah. I I hope that other performances like but you know there are those performances you remember for a long long time if not for your entire life and that was truly one of them. I can tell you how how big it was because on Monday morning Andy buyer texted me with the one twenty-one figure figure with an exclamation point and I could tell because he and I then went back and forth about a couple of things the mud on Monday on on Friday and Saturday and I could tell tell Andy was excited by it. You know to to have a legit any because he talked about the fact that the track probably slowdown in late in the afternoon and he said there is no question what this performance was in terms of figure because nitrous and and honest mischief make it absolutely absolutely I agree question about whether it was a one twenty-one argue..

"With the floats on them they were going the opposite direction they're going around and around and around. They kept the horses in the Paddock Jerez five thinking that they could get the track back and then they wound up cancelled the whole day. I agree with you. I think there's a rush to get get to fast that. There's some theory out there in the Cosmos of says people will bet more money at the track fast then if the track is money. Maybe that's true maybe it's not not but but I think we're was so against having a wet buddy track that we go to these heroic measures which oftentimes create <hes> safety safety issues with the track being too hard so the track got more water than what I basically be a little bit had they sealed hill that correctly the risk. You running is losing party attract. The drainage is just going to be terrible and you know you get up. You get party attract draining away hi and now you're gonNA even bigger problem so you see it. The water goes off the top. It doesn't really show can that teach me the protocol. Some reason that wasn't tolerant Thursday so Friday was a real prob- as you said go onto a track signing ninety degrees. It's muddy the entire there. It goes all that Moore order had not only soaked in but then I've been compressed down after itself than by sealing the track so luckily we got true to the races <hes> that sequence of events that I'm always worried about luckily didn't take place but what he'd be volved into as <hes> attract that the way I describe it as returning energy that if you went off fast you continue to go fast and that the energy you're putting in was not being taken away by the track was being returned so looking at the races from Saturday. There's not a lot of stakeouts not that we weren't that many dirt races anymore but there's not a lot of stick outs and terms of main tracks sprints being outrageously wage asleep fast until the vanderbilt and then imperial one's a hole in the one and and they had I mean you think about one hundred fifty fifty years of racing. I mean how many races run at Saratoga going six months and I I mean I had thousands and thousands and no one had ever gone below. I loved one away for six furlongs so what imperilling in did any fully capable of because it was a perfect re reply replica of Lancia's one winning performance performance sat off the pace bowling on the turnpike. Salerno hasn't moved a muscle time for home. Wash pulse away wins easily. I was just remarkable especially especially at the age of six and then the next day we saw something even crazy with chance lot just gone into the fun and just kept pouring bring it on and with no one pushing them to <hes> Bailey. Mrs Detract like six N._F._l.. Lions and tactically when fast going on six furlongs then impair hinted except what that running start at six furlongs they have a pretty good head of steam before the timing book portrays unbelievably fast and dominant but to me track related if you're an old horse racing fan and you pick up the track program and it would show the track records for each distance were may nineteen nineteen seventy-three they the three track record set on the same day.

Those were the opening lines of the legendary nineteen seventies TV show. Welcome back kotter where the main character played by Gabe Kaplan returns to his New York City high school to become a teacher. Our next guest has done the reverse Kelley rube. We grew up loving horses and upstate New York grew up to become a middle school science teacher and then left. That stable career to return to the stables on TV, Mr. Qatar dealt with a group of teenage guys who seemed comically incapable of maturing into adults Kelly rudely now a thoroughbred trainer has an equine version of a teenager as three year olds in the spring, basically are, but this guy has done some growing up in the last few months, always mining. We'll have to make a three wide bid and he's willing to do. It always finding up to try for gold as Zinni off the scene now in position less than three alongs to go and always mining now in front from try for goal turning for home in Federica Teissier sakes, all ways mining set down and opens up a four length lead on try for goal always mining with a six now a seven Lang lead always mining robbing home past the Laura line and headed to the Preakness always mining comes into the Preakness on a six race winning streak albeit in races. Quite as rigorous as those on the Kentucky, Derby trail, none the less. The three year old gelding is answered the rhetorical question about dreams that you hear on welcome back kotter who'd have thought they lead you back here where we need you and buy back here. We mean to Maryland where Kelly ruble is based at fair hill with a chance to claim one of the American spring classics, and we welcome trainer Kelly ruby here too in the gate. This horse has made twelve starts already maximum security. Maybe you've heard of him has made five including that whole Kentucky Derby thing. The last nine of always mining starts have come in laurel in the last six of those have been wins, all enlisted or overnight stakes. What's been your philosophy on how to bring them along? He he was purchased by my current owners after his maiden win. So he's only been with me since he ran on the grass in Maryland last summer. So, you know, we've kind of just strategically followed the past the Maryland route tickets where we're at today. What mood the light bulb turn on forum last October when this winning streak started? I wish I could answer that. He's always been a very nice horse. I mean anyone is made nicely. I think the goal was always to stretch out. And they were very limited races for two year olds when we ran them on the grass. So after that we also have to just sit tight and wait till they had a route race for us. And obviously he relished the mile you grew up in central New York, which is not exactly horse country. I know I went to Syracuse. What made you even want to get involved with horses up in that perpetual league gray bleak part of the world. I don't know. I guess it was ever since I could walk or talk I'll ever wanted to do with the around horses. So it was just naturally in me. But yes, it was a little limited. I started writing at a quarter horse barn actually started competing on the quarter horse survey doing jumpers and hunters and from there, but an event horse and started shipping down to the Maryland, Pennsylvania area. And that's kind of how I ended up in the air. Area fair hill. But listen to your parents, you earn two master's degrees. Two masters degrees. It became a middle school science teacher. Now, first of all, they're possibly be a more draining job in the world. And being a middle school teacher. I actually really enjoyed that age the students are you know, there's just starting to develop themselves much like a young horse. So I thought they were a lot of fun. But yes, it's exhausting, and it wasn't necessarily something. I could see myself doing in the future. Which is why I went back and got my second masters for administration inside that for three years. And then decided you know, what horses are meant to be. We what happens you were wearing a suit as an administrator and everything and did you just have an piffle. Or was it a gradual thing it was gradual? You know, even when I was teaching. I went into the administration because the fact that I'd already voted so much of my time, and my education towards the education were also what could I do move up the ladder in that respect? So I tried the administrative row and decided that it was just for me it allowed more flexible hours than my current job. But it just wasn't something. I had a passion for jelly rudely. Rainer of Preakness contender always mining. Joining us here on the gate now before you get to fair hill, which you mentioned you leave teaching school for FOX hunting in Pennsylvania. Is that a thing that was just a job to kind of regroup and see what I was going to do with my life. But yes, I was managing harm, and we accented I we didn't really have an opportunity in where I grew up. I never FOX hunted in my life. So it was a unique experience in something that I greatly enjoy. But it also got me my start with Barclay tag here at their hill. How I started galloping for him here. He had a string at fair hill and my gal for him and then eventually moved up to become his assistant. How do you go from FOX hunting and Pennsylvania to fair hill and being an exercise rider? Well, I mean that job was just pretty much to move me to this area to figure out what I was going to do. And that's. When I met Parkway and became an exercise rider for them with the goal that I would eventually become an assistant and kind of learn the horse racing world from the ground up. What did your parents say about what you chosen to do? With those two masters degrees. They were not thrilled. They still think I'm a little nuts. And the fact that you know, I work seven days a week. And I haven't had a day off and many years, but we've had a little bit of success. They're starting to kind of be what my my goal was a long, and they're you know, they're coming around. But still it wasn't ideal in there is at the time. Well in light of that. How nervous will you when you finally decided to go out on your own? I wouldn't say I was nervous. You know? It was a goal, and I like I'm somewhat of a driven person. And so I had a goal. And I knew when I became an assistant as the idea was to learn as much as I could to have an eventual string of my own, and you know, it came around gradually and worked I way into it. And so it was just a natural flow. Really? I'm guessing you're hoping that the success of always mining will lead to more business how big a stable do you have? And how big would you like it to be? I have about forty horses in training right now. We've had more in the past. I'm a very hands on person. I checked every horse's legs every morning. So I don't know how we'd like to go. We'd like to continue to improve the stable and have a nice allowance level stable. So you know, it just depends on I don't know that there's a magic number to stop at. It's just when I feel like I can't stand up everything that I'm going to have to take a minute and relook at it. It is always morning still in control leads almost two legs. From is six furlongs twelve three sixty s lift to go with like the distances. No problem at all. For always finding always minding kept attest opening up a half dozen on Joey his second and tai-bo third. Always mining wants to run all day, always minding to win it by six or so we've talked on this show recently about the stickiness of the future of the Preakness. But considering that always mining. Is one six in a row with loyal race course and made nine of his twelve career starts there. I'm guessing you personally wouldn't be too opposed to running the Preakness there this year. This year. That'd be perfect. That's going to happen. I mean, how concerned are you that he can bring his race track with him? Even though it's still in the state of Maryland. Actually, I think the Tenneco course going to set him up nicely. It's got a nice long stretch. And he just has a very large scale thing stride. So I I I don't see this the track change to be a problem. We're going to have to do it. Eventually, then I'm guessing you don't mind seeing that just about all of the top derby contenders are going elsewhere now that plays well for us, absolutely more. We certainly wish you the best of luck here. Kelly ruby. Thank you so much for sharing a few minutes with us. Thank you. Thank you haven't. We're going to take our first break here on in agape when we come back. It's time to revisit that whole d Q rule and how it's interpreted on guessing, you know, why we need a refresher. So go

"She was just kind of on the bubble. She had a little bit of ankle's bothering her, and she was running for twenty twenty five thousand so we turned her out fresh into and when she came back into next year. She just got a little bigger and stronger, and now you're talking to fortified your old mare and the following year. She ended up winning some stake races. She wanted six six and a half a mile mile an eight and ended up being the Washington older mayor of the year and just had a stellar season. And to go from you know, a twenty claimer and she did win a couple of those. But you know, kind of made it look like she had started a career maiden special allowance. In the Washington area, and then dipped down into the claiming and then after a year and some time off little freshening. She came back, even bigger and better. So that was kind of one one one example of that. And then there was another horse that we claim I high now called curb Raj, and he's he's the funny horse. He's kinda spooky and Lookie and stuff like that. But this particular horse he was three year old first time starter. So we claimed him and next time out we you know, we bumped him up in the claiming ranks and then he rattled off a couple of wins. He he was just one of those ones that you kind of had to do things his way because a lot of people would not like that spooky quirkiness, but he had brilliant speed. And he actually ran one six and change and still holds the record for, you know, the fastest six furlongs ever run in Washington. So that was kind of a horse that you just had to kind of do things his way. And and not get after him, or or, you know, and and sometimes you got to treat gelding like Phillies, and sometimes you gotta train Phillies like colts, and, you know, Philly's like things a little lighter and a little softer and utilize colts can take a strong hand. And just come back the next day. Like it didn't they don't even remember what happened yesterday. So there's a lot of give and take with horses and whether they're males females or or somewhere in between. You gotta kinda see what kind of training works for them lighter harder, more work, less workout, you know, that kind of thing. And so one of the things I think you definitely for me. And I think a lot of other people you may talk to you. Somebody asked me the question one time. But what is it about racing that you like, obviously, I like the competition because growing up playing sports and stuff like that. So that's one of the driving forces. And that was something that Dan Henderson. I hadn't common stands very competitive person. And I know he liked that part of racing. And so do I love the competition. But when somebody asks me that question, you know, what is it that you like about racing gets the horse is that one on one trying to figure out that horse. They're all like a puzzle. And then you say, okay, you know, let's changes feed. Let's change shooting. Let's do this. Let's do that. And you keep tinkering, and you get things just the way you want him. But a lot of trainers. You talked to you know, you get things one hundred percent, right? The it rains the racing. Get cancelled all of a sudden you get him, right? Where you want him or her spike, the temperature pops in abscessed, you know, grabs a quarter. It's just there's so many things. So that's why I think when when when you win a race. You see trainers so excited over the top, you know, especially owners to you know, with owners, you kind of have your, you know, you go to your job, you go to your work your business every day. And you know, probably not all that exciting. But you win a race..

"The kid the kid beige, you left Phillips worth it. Yeah. Silky Sullivan came from like thirty lengths back to win the race that day in nineteen fifty six. Let me look this up shit. While you're really prepared. That's me. That's the boy scouts marching fucking song. Man. Okay. Areo silky Sullivan, man. Celebrating his birthday on Saint Patrick's Day. I remember I was out there in. It was in the seventies. And this horse was now in his twenties. And they brought silky Sullivan up from the paddock. And I swear to God. And now, you know, I maybe they trained him to do that. You'd like to think that the the roar of the crowd got him to do it. But when they brought the horse out when they brought silky Sullivan out in front of the grand stand in the crowd roared when they made the announcement here is silky Sullivan. He started bucking his hindquarters up and. He was the lone ranger was on board. Really? Yeah. He started really just kicking. And looking like he was really enjoying the attention. Who knows for a fact, but and he was looked like he was raring to go, man. It is true. Those horses are bred to run. There's no question. But silky Sullivan says there are other great horses worl- away. Stymie needles gallant, man. But none could hang so far back. Let the field gets so far ahead and still win called the California. Don't yell about it don't yell at pill. I'm sorry, but forty-one links back you six furlong ain't gonna happen. God debt is having a sensational year winning it almost twenty percent of even better meet at laurel thirty percent, she'd be the one I would take a little bit of a look at price lady. Vicky, but I think sewers gonna be tough in race number seven thirty eight gogo will rob the segment. We race number eight Dave's friends six furlongs for the older horses. Hundred thousand on the line. Just a feel of seventy a little surprise because this is always a popular race in Maryland. The Dave's friend been run there for many years in a row. I narrowed it down to cautious giant and Lachie. I think I like Laki best. But it it's kind of a toss up mostly sources. They look the same. They rent similar numbers, and they're all in relatively good form. So it's going to be a contentious race cautious giant intrigues me. Because he's coming in from Florida. He's doing the reverse winter thing, and I'm kind of thinking he might perk up when he gets to the cooler weather. You know, doesn't look like. You know, he never he never runs a battery. He's he's always solid. But I think that takes its toll run in the heat all the time. And I think he might really really enjoy a little little break in the cool. So we'll see if that that wakes them up. I know the French trainers think it makes a big difference. So we'll see all they won the I like him a little bit as well. He supposed to get a really good pace scenario here, isn't he? Yeah. He should he should sit the perfect trip right behind the speed. And you know can't can't knock Trevor McCarthy. And he's another one he he blew out. Well for this race Pimlico Pimlico. Yeah. They got eight horses to work half a mile Pimlico on Christmas Eve that was pretty impressive. When I saw that. So yeah, I I don't know. I just you know, it's one of those gut feelings just have a gut feeling about horse. I think I think cautious giants going to run. Good to run. A big race say the other a little bit seven Colonel sharp who set a pretty good year for eleven hundred seventy five thousand in the Bank source raining, Switzerland. And Francis the great three three starts back try turf. And then last time I don't know where that speed came from last time among man went forty four and four and put it on them and kept on going that was going seven eighths now he cuts back to a distance. He's had a majority of his success. Atms career? That's six furlongs. The other one doesn't mind a little moisture in the ground, but he's almost as fast on fast ground. I think he's another. Horse. He could benefit from a little bit of a pay stool in here, and maybe revert to his old tax income from off the pace as opposed to gates wire performance last time, but Colonel sharp and my top pick like you as the three cautious giant. I think they have to I want in race number eight. The Dave's friend will take one more break when we come back. We'll route the action at laurel head out to the great race place for couple of steaks, including the great one American oaks..
"six furlongs" Discussed on Daily Racing Form
"When they stretch out from sprints going long, they're gonna be positioned more forward, run a little bit faster. Pace figure wise, and that's why you see bound for nowhere. He certainly has good tactical speed. He did nicely last time. So I don't think he's a need type, but he should definitely be part of the pace. Horse said that drew this drew me to this race is heart the heart. He's seven to two one the morning line, which I believe in this big field is actually the morning line. Favorite and other some interesting notes with heart the heart. If you don't think he's going to make the lead, which I don't in the face, projector does not. I think he's a very good bet against in this field. I in his career, he's made the lead twenty two times and he's one fifteen. Those races. In fact, all fifteen of his career wins have come go wire-to-wire where he sled a every call, but that also fifteen times he is not made the lead and in those fifteen races, he's been beaten every time. Some he's run better than others said some close seconds, but he jet the final winner circle where he's not able to set that early. The brings us to the horse. I'm like in this race, and that's number six. Synchrony the reason I liked him for one because of the fast paced, but there's some other stuff as well. I think he's issuing his Co. victories really come in zone. This year is a five year old in his last two races really stick out the me where the pieces been pretty slow. You can see the the fractions or noted blue in his last two raise past performance. And he still got the win. Despite that he's come from five and a half, six in the head Heff lens back to win, and he's won rather easily. Granted, it was against slightly lesser competition, but given his eight, the one morning line, I think he reads a really strong chance in here in should be an overlay. If he's anywhere near that morning line listening, I wanna show is just IRA top lead speed, speed horses. In this field. I listed the top five in order and synchrony tops it, but there are a few others that you know, maybe at a price if you're playing some exotic might wanna throw in there. A hot won't. Pretend to pronounce number seven's. Name saw is call him the seven east tied with the late pace. He won his as top wait, hey source, he won his own starting to US after coming over from France, and he certainly could win. Your wouldn't be a big shock ending. See some other prices in next year's all Manar division aero. So I will definitely be leaning at the the late debate. Runners in this race. I like synchrony on top, but I won't be afraid to use some of these others either. That's it for this week's time form US segment with send it to Nicole Russo. Everyone Nicole Russo coming to you for out of the gate. Let's take a look at the field for Saturday's grade one shoe, pain stakes at all. Not park. The field is led by Saratoga special winter called Paul. We've got three really well, Brad, maiden winner. Stepping up to this level who are intriguing here, some different storylines your, we'll begin with a look at the dolphin home Brent indoors at Saratoga made in winter as you would expect when you see those good Olsen colors really regally, bred horse. His Tyra medallion Doro in the midst of a career run both on the restrict and in the commercial arena, you need to know introduction and endorsed his out of the tap at their dance card who yes was third in the Breeders Cup Stilian mayor sprint, but who was a great one winter going longer in the his. I'll certainly bodes well for endorse if he stretches out from six furlongs to the mile, the champagne, some juvenile ability in the family to vote while for him as dance..
