"60 wjr were Detroit comes to talk. Here's WJR is Kevin Dietz. It's being called the game of Thrones home, and it just hit the market. It is as close to living in a medieval castle as it gets. It's in Rochester, Michigan, and it's for sale for about $2.29 Million. But for the money you get about 10,800 square feet. It's a castle. It sits on six acres. It's surrounded by an iron fence and has two gated towers. This the place has 26 rooms. Some of them are hidden. The thing is amazing. We'll put some pictures up on wjr dot com But here to talk a little bit about this property and the market in general is our friend Michael Peart, our real estate agent. Good morning, Michael. How are you? Good morning and thank you so much for having me on a really appreciate it. Yeah. We appreciate you coming on. Did you get a chance to see this place yet? Or have you seen the pictures I have, and I got to say this is a heck of a property with a mode a drawbridge, secret passageways. It's extremely unique, and it's going to take a unique buyer but definitely wanted to scope out at least online on Bill O er on your on your website for sure. Yeah, This is, uh, This is one of those homes where it's probably a little tricky for the real estate agent to to figure out who exactly is the right buyer for a house with a moat and a drawbridge surrounded by iron, a medieval castle. How do you go about even marketing that it? You just try and get some free media like this? Absolutely. And I start with going to the stark family or the lannisters. No, I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. But, yes, definitely three media getting it on em Live getting in on wjr, uh, advertising it on a national level, especially more expensive markedly in California or some part of the taxes. Because there's a draw right now for buyers to get out of some of the more expensive markets. And Michigan is very affordable with our luxury properties, comparatively Yeah, I guess if people are looking for a little space with the pandemic and have to work from home, if you if you have a place with 26 rooms, you can probably find a quiet place in the house somewhere where you can work. What is the market like for luxury homes in Michigan? What's the market doing right now? That's a great question. So luxury property sales are still remaining fairly strong. We are peeking out on our pricing we've seen just in the last 30 to 40 days, but we've also had an 18% run up in home values over the last 12 months across the board, whether it's a luxury property, started property and second one third home. All across the board with which is the biggest biggest appreciation 12 months we've ever had in U. S history, which is amazing and what goes up. Sometimes it comes down, but in this case, I think we're going to see just more of a pause, so we're seeing luxury properties as well as some other properties. Where they're trying where owners are trying to stretch that price like they have been in the spring, but they're just not seeing it. So we're seeing price reduction happening at a much higher level this month and in August than we did in July or June. Advice of the price type to the market. Nail the place right? Because a lot of buyers haven't caught up with. Okay, The market is starting to slow down so something buyers are starting to question. Homes on the market for 10 days or 20 days or 30 days. It's more about what's wrong with the property because they're so used to those multiple offer situation. What price ranges are the hottest in which ones could you find a place? Uh, it's uh, still available. No, That's a great question. Right now. The 300 around 1,000,000 have been extremely hot, because now you're looking just below the jumbo loan limits. Which means a more advantageous interest rate easier to qualify for, and with interest rates. Still hovering at that 2875 Mark, housing is still extremely affordable, even though prices have gone up in the first time by a range. We're seeing a lot of competition and a lot of investors in that market, trying to pick up homes for cash as well. That's been a little bit of a cattle market. The investors are buying the properties to rent them out. Yes, yes, a lot of buy and hold investors right now in the market, and that's that's also because rents rents themselves have really run up over the past 12 months. Yeah, We've been hearing a lot of younger people out there trying to find a home and just how hard it is to compete against these investors with all cash when kids coming out of school are trying to buy their first house and have to get alone and they have to overbid on what the what the price of the property is. It's been fairly challenging for that market. Has been really challenging for that market are finally starting to see a little bit of reprieve. Instead of seeing 18 2022 offers. We're now seeing closer to 3 to 5 offers in that price range. So if you're if you're a first time buyer and you're just getting out of school and you're ready for your first property now may be the time. Especially if you're fhe or via you're much more likely to get an offer accepted. Also, if you're a seller, whether you're looking to up size into a luxury property or downsize and we had 17,000 homes come on the market in August, which was up from 16,000 in July. About 12,000 homes sold across measure Detroit So there's them and we're sitting there. There's an additional by about 5000 properties that are seeing their so now maybe at the time if you're looking to move, but you're scared about finding something. I have some friends who are empty nesters and they decide. They said, the markets so hot that they had to take this opportunity to sell their home. Even though they weren't thinking about selling their home. They they sold it because they feel they'll never get more for it than right now, and they're going to rent right now and wait it out. What? What do you think of that strategy? And to be honest, my advice to them would be getting to go ahead and get into that next property at two. If if they're paying cash, that's great if they need a mortgage 2.85%. It's an amazing interest rates and they may as well take advantage of it and all the tax benefits that come with owning A tax deductions, the right off things like that. I think that would be more advantageous for them in the long run than any potential bubble first, because I just don't see that with the way the economy is going right now, unemployment is still going down. Wages are increasing. All indicators look like where the real estate market may not appreciate that much in the next couple of years. It's not going to fall slash Home prices go down either. What do you think of people who are in reverse reverse mortgages with the property values being as high as they are right now, is it Is it a time to look at at what your agreement is and possibly getting out of that? Yes, And we've seen a lot of people take the reverse mortgages where they're being charged Industries of four or 4.5% and kind of repackage them in that three or 3.25 range, So it's taking less equity on their home on a monthly basis, much less equity, other home and monthly basis if you're in a reverse mortgage Now is the time to contact your local lender or local bank. And if you're not in a reverse mortgage,.

Michael Peart Michael 2.85% 10 days 30 days California 20 days July 18% 17,000 homes June Kevin Dietz 4.5% U. S four August 16,000 Michigan 3 26 rooms

"A hot dog. Good hot dog. Alison. Bill! Good. Yeah. Alison go home and garden by Sullivan hot dogs and brats out there right behind. We're a little confused on where they are. I say it's behind the house plants behind the main building. Don't know if I'd said behind. I don't know. I would say it's on the main entrance and the West, the West edge of the main building the big place, though. How many eight. Just keep wandering around. Fine. Step by. Yeah. End up getting five or six acres. How big is this? This is pretty nice, right? And then, uh, the fine folks from The down the road beverage card, Bad bike. Grant Hayes Lisa Hayes. They are here as well with their Fun drinks had no idea. Drink standard. They have a bicycle, and it's just this cute little family. They said They had this idea during quarantine just to do something around the neighborhoods. That really so they just, uh, try traveling with their kids on this. Did. I wonder if we moved and we put them? I mean, I don't know if it was hazing or not, but my staff put them in, like a place. No one would find them. Yeah. Why don't you put them by the front door, So I don't know. I assume they moved over. That's sort of what I want to say they have. They have a boba tea, Which is what you guys are drinking. Um, and lemonade and Colbert. Really good, really good. Now, what's the difference between Cold brew and nitro? Oh, that's I don't know. You don't know? Okay, I know there's different. John joins us on the program. Hi, John. Yeah. Hi there. Take off speakerphone. Good afternoon. Hey, thanks for taking my call. I love looking you guys on Saturday. So I've got maybe two questions if I can squeeze them in, Um we moved here from Illinois and we're here about five years, and I don't think it's that much difference in the soil in the dirt, but seems sound complex are pests that never had there. We have a raised garden. 12 by 24 had it in now for I think this is the third season. And we put the new whenever his growth rules right and we had a huge crop of green beans, pole green beans last year. I put down you know, I think was grub X or something all around the grass and stuff, but it didn't put anything in the garden itself this year. I've got green beans barely starting to grow. I've got something that started eating holes in them, and I looked online and it was supposed to be like this green bean beetle, So I got some seven ounce spray that Well, what I've noticed now in the past two weeks, something is eating beliefs. I mean, they're like just eating whole leaf and taken it away, and I just have sticks now. My green beans are Barely growing because, well, they're not growing at all. I'm not even wrapped around the poles. Those sticks left. What's what's doing the sticks is going to be. I mean, it sounds like this. This is not Vince, then. Garden. It's not fenced, and you don't have a It's not since then. But we've got we've got cabbage. We've got lettuce, but everything else is growing. Nobody and everything is perfect. It's only going after mine. Green bean leaks and just because the the stick thing is you're describing a bunny. You're you're describing rabbits that that come in, and we'll strip a plant. Except for the stem. And he just like screen beans. You have a green bean B could be And once the green beans are gone, might come back after something else, But I mean, a past like a Japanese beetle or something like that. Is I mean, you're going to see holes, but If the entire leaf is gone, and it's just a stem, it's it's generally Rabbit. Or something else, but not not not a bug. So okay. So I guess I would camp out. Check it out. But I think that the money, okay? Yeah. I mean, you can get a game camera, You know, Like what a hunter uses. Just strap it around, Put it on the ground. And if they're motion detected and you'll find out what it is real quick. Bombing. It's a bunny quickly. We could try that. The other quick question. Thank you, I'll. Uh yes, we looked at a couple times a day. Another quick question is around chickweed in the grass. I never have this stuff and it just keeps popping up all over. Um again. I put some pre emergent through and tenacity, Uh, did that half the our last year put it in spots, but it keeps popping up. It's now the end of June. Is it too late to put down any sort of selective besides, it's too early. Yeah, it's too early to put a pre emergent because if so, we're looking forward to 22 things. So to completely kill it. We look forward to 2022 chickweed is a winter annual that will germinate in September. So in about mid August, you put down crabgrass control in mid August, and that will prevent that winter annual From germinating in September. Just like you put down pre emergent in April and early May to take care of the crab press. So I did that in April. Okay. Do your you did that. You did that in April for crabgrass. Now you're going to use the same product so that it takes care of the chickweed and September now you can if you if you want to kill it. Would use speed zone or weed free zone and both of those are really effective on killing it. But it doesn't seem to get rid of it Seems like it still comes back. Yeah, it is. Okay, So wait till august and put the same thing. Crabgrass killer, I guess and April. I mean, you you re emergent. Yeah, so don't have dead. Danny brings a valid point. Pre emergence so it would be and you can get it without fertilizer in it. If you don't want to fertilize, just get the pre pre emergent by itself. The one from Scotts will say, uh, we'd x e x. We'd X and then on Saturday, they will say Halt halts. Okay? Yep. Do that in August. Okay. Thank you. You got it, John. Thanks for the call. 239 93 93 is a number. We're gonna step away real quick. Hang on the line and we're going to knock out some of these calls as we continue on here from Alison Ville, home and garden by Sullivan and Fishers. Come on out. Still you still got me thinking about a about a young guy living in a tent beside that's me that's really getting into it. I cooked all my food over the campfire. I had a composting toilet solar shower. I put up to seventy five watts solar panels. I had The basics the girlfriend at the time needed to blow dryer. I created a wigwam inside because it got really cold. In the winter time there was a lot of had to learn from that including lightning prevention. But yes oh man. That's amazing they're saying right now. That a lot of people are living the big cities and the don't ask looked at an interview with a realtor and they were saying What people are wanting to do is like get out of the big cities and go get four or five acres and grow their own crops and have some goats and chickens and maybe a barn or you know or guest house and then and then hopefully they can still do what they're doing remotely without having to go into an office anymore but part of it is almost as kind of camping out and Here in california the area. That's getting popular is out beyond roseville and beyond folsom kind of up towards the sierras. But all along that low area this year is anybody who's got five six acres or so that they can grow their own food have again usually they say goats and chickens and then they still have some something that earning a living onto off-farm off on the virtually and and i guess that's happening all over the country. You were you were years ahead of your time. Yeah i guess so. And i was lucky enough because the woman that i kind of opened my eyes to some other things at a young age can have got me out of being a rascal. I guess i'll just say Their family was some of the founders of the farm in tennessee. Stephen gaskins back in the day. And i don't know if you've ever heard about the commune called the farm. There's plenty of them out there. And they know it. And then the other two hundred plus acres For for the commercial development that You know that supposedly is is at the heart of this. I don't with that if i if i were king. I do the same thing. When i'm saying is there's at least one hundred acres there that there's no reason to tear down that grandstand. There's no reason to run bulldozers the prospect term force which is one of the world's best. There's no reason to discontinue horse racing. What was just been a part of the economic engine for arlington heights and palatine for many many years. Now there's no reason that city to dismiss all these jobs and all these people. There's no reason that for all of us have to give up our homes. There's no reason for us. A- all have to well that the leave our families to go to other states. It's simply without reason. There's something there's greater responsibility to people than just shareholder valley value for a greedy corporate entity they wouldn't do it in the commonwealth and i don't think they should do it in illinois that's fair that's fair way to phrase it. There's no reason why hundred acres can't be maintained for racing. I've had many calls about people that have an interest in purchasing allenton. Part for the purpose of raising. Of course they'd like to have a gaming like these with it. One of the things that we need to find out frankly is there a moratorium that prevents gaming there. No one has ever answered that question. Churchill is not answer that question yet that for moratorium exists between the rivers to prevent gaming from taking place at arlington park. We don't know is is that that's obviously an area where the regulators imagined could have some say in and provide some clarity. I listen i'd like to know where the regulators are. You know we have. We have a great chairman. Don't get me wrong. And we have an interesting group of of commissioners and we're happy to have him. It's refreshing to the. We've had a change recently that that actually listen to the horsemen opinions. But i i gotta tell you you know where i don't think whereas anybody you know you got a guy like me Trying to fight on behalf of an entire industry and and frankly it's not enough. You know and thank god steve that you win and and are concerned about this. I just can't imagine that an iconic racetrack like this can just be closed and the only reaction to it so far is in our own. Well you know. What are we going to do. On the morning after that If you've ever been on one of these conference calls it's not like they just opened it up to the press it's mostly analysts The analysts will almost certainly be more concerned. With how much money Churchill downs can get for those three hundred twenty six acres than the fate of live racing at that property. Well one of the one of the things that you know that certainly caught the attention was the fact i'm just going through three different Pieces of of printed materials. So let me go back to the press. Release than they've got your piece and here we go The the press release included verbiage that cpi would consider and would be open to potentially relocating the license. I mean obviously there in arlington heights. The value of that property outstrips the racetrack standing alone. How you know. How active do you think they are and sincere. They are about doing that. And you know what is the value of the license. And how movable is it yeah. I didn't particularly understand that. I've got some Some calls. "This next story. I found in the oakland. I wanted to highlight it because number one history. Everyone loves history number two historic buildings. Lots of our listeners love historic buildings but number three. I think it helps give us some context about our region and our development because we talk about a lot of these things. But i don't think we realize just how new so much of metro detroit is so the. The news headline basically is that the city of southfield is finishing their restoration of the historic. Mary thomson farmhouse now. This was built in eighteen. Forty there are not structures like this left around our region now this is located right around the southfield civic center. So that's evergreen road just north of ten miles. So that's that's right. Smack dab in the middle of southfield and it was the home of mary thompson. Who was a teacher and an advocate for the southfield community. So here's the kicker her in one thousand nine hundred fifty eight. This house was sold to the city and one hundred and sixty six acres of property at one half its value to be used as the southfield. Civic center The farmhouses being trained as a museum but to me this really Stands out. And i will note here that no tax dollars are being used to preserve the farmhouse and farm. Which is the fiscally responsible thing.

The NBA's possible July return at Disney World, explained

"I wanted to talk about the NBA the NBA was one of the first big sports leagues two to call off their season because of coronavirus I I remember practically not called off postponed host suspended suspended yeah yeah that's that's what it's all about yes they didn't actually wants to call off although people kept expecting they're going to call it off so people are getting creative I mean folks want not only fans and players want sports going running again up and running again but so do the owners and the network executives at stations like ESPN there if something like two point six billion dollars they make a year because of the broadcast NBA game so so they're thirsty for basketball to come back again and ESPN is owned by the Disney corporation and Disney has floated this idea that what if we get the NBA V. I. K. I assume the entirety of the NBA down to the ESPN wide world of sports complex that's near Orlando in Florida and we kind of set up a big old bubble and we have everyone there we play all the games there at no fans obviously but we have is some version of a basketball season yeah there's it's a huge campus down there it's the two hundred fifty six acres I thinking twenty four thousand hotel rooms all empty yeah right so it's an opportunity they feel like they can bring everyone the whole league down there play a bunch of games without fans at B. multiple games in a day clean and disinfect between keep the players as isolated they can't have the otherwise other other than when they're on the court and in very very close proximity right and trading a lot of sweat they seem to end testing every day that sort of thing like they can create sort of a model for the league and my guess is that if they can do this isolate everyone from the trainers to the coaches to the to the other people who work in the team along with the players over the course of of a few games my guess is that there's probably going to have to be a decision about whether or not we look at the the season standings as they were when the season shut down and decide and pick the top teams is those the playoff teams and roll into some playoffs immediately or play out another month of the season they're ready really at the place where we would be in the playoffs right now I guess that that's probably an option it'll be interesting to see if they can do it because I think the other leagues we watching very very closely yeah but if the if the they can pull this off yeah I think that I don't know what you do about families you know like I don't have their you're just yeah you're gonna be without either however are not going to have your family with you they want to go but I mean these players are used to traveling and being on the road tonight especially being on the road for an entire month although one the plants that you can be you can go from city to city and never actually make that return trip home and so it conceivably this is not going to be and they're used to living out of hotel rooms in the stand they are if anything can travel efficiency efficiently it's a professional sports team they're very very good at getting yeah all of their stuff up and moved into a hotel they understand that environment pretty well about getting down to the gym it's an interesting idea if they can pull it off safely more power to all right going to be weird to listen to broadcast games if you've never attended a any basketball practice I mean they all sound kind of the same with no fans there are a lot of squeaking weeks we had a lot of gallon and it's going to be interesting if they broadcast that and don't censor out what we will be here I I would wait which is as blue as it gets back in any sports league now wait but you can't hear over the crowd noise so I had to get pretty interesting what what the NBA and ESPN to get inside to do about that end of things I am really warming up to the idea of no fans and and according to according to data so so was everybody else really you know early on in this in this whole thing people they they pulled folks ask them the questions like would you be interested in watching sports without any fans there and and most people by and large were like no that's too weird I don't know if I'm into that and it's just it's been a couple months I think we're kind of warming up to the idea that stuff's just gonna be different these days and more more people are warming to the idea that like yeah and if I can if they can do it safely and I can get my in this case basketball fix then why not and then you get these little little pearls of fun unexpected consequences like hearing everything that said on the court or why not head to the I mean if this coincides with the opening of let's just say you're from Milwaukee in the opening of the sports pubs there why not my Cup a bunch of sports pubs you know get it so there's not that white noise so you can't hear the individual profanity of course will happen whenever anyone knows miked on national television right it always has but you can do something about that it may be a slight delay and actually use that and add that into the television feed you know for either side or whatever however you wanted whoever you declare because you will have to declare a home team right in every game the right standard and so maybe you might get the home team's bars or something like that right away the fans in those places or even people in their houses I don't know why don't you get

The Evansdale Murders

"Longtime listeners of this fine program. We'll know that one of the tactics I would certainly use in any of these investigations is what I like to call the old pervert roundup and that is exactly what law enforcement did. Investigators tracked down approximately ten registered sex offenders living in Evansdale and all were cleared by police but according to CNN there were two hundred registered sex offenders in a ten mile radius is scary stuff now the town of Waterloo has did. He make sure that there wasn't a prison I I did. The town of Waterloo has one registered sex offender for every two hundred and thirty six residents for comparison purposes. Evansdale has a registered sex offender for every four hundred and eighty four residents over all the DCI says. It looked into over three hundred sex offenders to date throughout the investigation. Investigators had a hard time figuring out. Exactly how the girls were abducted. Where the bikes were left was quite far from their house and was not in an area. Cars could travel further. The girl sense had seem to lead into the woods. How a Predator or predators managed to get control of two girls silently and sight unseen in broad daylight. But we've we've talked about this many times normally. I'M GONNA guess that it's by threat of violence. I show you a gun. I show you a knife. You're a little kid is not gonna be that hard for me to You know most little kids are not going to think. Hey I could take off running right now or maybe I can scream or I could do something. You're going to see that gun and once that threat is made now that perpetrators in control. Yeah and what you have to wonder about two is do you take that a step further and say were they lured to a vehicle perhaps by someone they knew and trusted and there was no reason for them to scream and run away right. That's your second option. The other thought to had they been grab from another location. Perhaps a long road alongside a road. Which would make sense. And then the bikes left by their doctor on the trail and the dogs are just mistaken or confused while we talked about this a little off the record was the idea that what if the perpetrator had a truck or had A truck with maybe a cap on it where he got the girls got control the girls there now in his vehicle a he has the their bikes but now he's afraid that once he takes off that maybe somebody sees the bikes in the back of his truck. Here's the other thing to consider as well staying along the idea that it was a stranger abduction. Could we have a situation where they were somewhat targeted meaning? Had someone been watching the two girls as we said? This bike ride was pretty routine. They were out riding together often and I would imagine it would be roughly about the same time of day so somebody put together a carefully planned attack a snatch and grab of these two girls especially if they were following him and then followed them all the way to the lake that might have presented the opportunity. The perpetrator was looking for there. Were a rash of child. Abduction attempts throughout Iowa in two thousand twelve the following reports appeared in various media publications. And I'll kind of go through these one at a time. Captain you just kind of jump in where you see fit may nineteenth two thousand twelve th authorities say they were looking for a man suspected in the attempted abduction of three girls on the west side of Perry Iowa. Perry police say the man stopped his car about eight. Pm Friday and asked the Girls Ages. Eight and nine for directions to a convenience store he then tried to get the girls into the car asking for them to show him the way. Show him the directions. Police say the girls ran to a neighbor's house thankfully on June sixth of that same year. Metro police are teaming up with following a string of attempted child abductions in the Des Moines Iowa area. No this is like one hundred and twenty five miles away from Evansdale but I wanna go through some of these as we as we can hear the most recent of these attempts happened in Pleasant Hill on May twenty third of that year. Police say a man in A. Suv tried to lure a young girl into his vehicle in the same article. They're talking about walkie. Police were investigating an incident. That happened around the same date. There were two girls. They say they were followed by an SUV. In June parents and four city Iowa were notified of two abduction attempts and one of them. The driver of a Tan panel work style van stopped three children on bicycles on North Eighth Street and told them he was going to get them. The children ran away and the driver drove off. Seems like we need another stranger danger campaign through this country. I mean with all these creeps and all these pieces of shit to teach these kids one. Stay away run away. Run to the nearest house yell for help. Well what I find interesting in these situations is when you do have some a child or children who actually go missing and then the thought is abduction. You'll see these little stories in the newspapers in the local newspapers and they are just that they are little tiny stories because they don't know much about the offender they don't really fully know what the offender was attempting to do the actual crimes. They were attempting to carry ow. But it's scary stuff and they're really just delivering a little short warning to the community and to the parents in the area. What happens once you have a child who actually goes missing these stories all start to cycle back through the news because now you have people making connections and you're going alright. There's a shark in the water and he's over here swimming around in this area and look try to get somebody here and try to get somebody there In the same article captain there are going all the way back to march of that year. Where say the Police Department investigated a possible attempt to abduct a ten year? Old Boy. The boy who was in front of his home said he was approached by an Asian male roximately fifty years old with a thin face. The suspect was driving an older grey van possibly with I'll license plates. The man reportedly tried to lure the boy into his van after asking for directions to a church whether these attempts could have been the same person who took Elizabeth and lyric is almost certainly something that police in evansdale would have been. Considering at the time on the four month anniversary of the disappearance a letter appeared in the newspaper and it read to whom it may concern. We would use your name but we don't know who you are or maybe we do. Maybe you are someone who knows the girls. Maybe you're someone who just acted upon impulse. Maybe you had planned to take them. We don't know because we don't know who you are but we can sort of imagine that you must not have had the things you needed to grow up feeling safe and loved because only someone who hurts inside would hurt another person in their family. We've all heard the saying hurt. People hurt people. We believe this to be true. We are so sorry for what happened to you when you were growing up. Certainly all children do not receive all the love and care they deserve. Some are even abused by those who are supposed to have taken care of them. When that happens it is very wrong. Taking the girls from us has caused much pain pain for them pain for us and our families since the time you took them. Maybe you've wondered more than a few times how you could ever make it right how to be a hero. Not a monster. Things probably look pretty hopeless for a good outcome. We want you to know that we are praying for you to do the right thing by releasing the girls everyone wins even you the person who took them imagine how it will feel to? Have everyone remember that you were the one person and all the missing children cases the one person who cared enough to let the girls go you will not be remembered as the one who took the girls but as the one who let them come home? Our lives have not been the same since July thirteenth. Please let our girls come home to us. Do the right thing be a hero sincerely and signed by both of the families Wa- and then we're going to learn that that's not an option anymore to return the girls because the girls would be found. Yeah this takes place. On December fifth of that same year two thousand and twelve the family. They get the phone call that they were really hoping not to get. The family was told that two bodies had been found and at that time they believe them to be. The girl's three hunters found two small corpses in seven bridges. Wildlife Park and brimmer county north of Evansdale. This was a totally off the grid. One hundred sixty six acre wildlife area about twenty two miles from Myers Lake twenty two miles from where the bikes were found The area was not one that someone would just stumble upon. It was frequented mostly by hunters. Atv riders fishermen. You know outdoor people. This was a the type of park that you just take your kids for a hike and this was you said more for hunters and fishermen. Atv riders into kind of clue. Everybody in that's not from that area. When I see these types of statements it really really puts it into perspective for me. What kind of place? What kind of area we're talking about. This is also an area where people would drive and dump appliances. You know how you see. Things that are just dumped that are unwanted wanted. They have no other idea of how to get rid of them right. They just dump these appliances out in the middle of nowhere so and this is also a place that pretty much only the locals dough about you want to know about it. If you weren't from the area I mean you could find it on a map. But as I said it's it's very much like you just described it's only going to be frequented by people that are specifically intending to go to that area for the purpose of hunting or fishing

Between President Trump's Border Wall And The Rio Grande Lies A 'No Man's Land'

"President trump is moving ahead with his border wall yesterday. He signaled that he wants to divert three point eight billion dollars from the Pentagon's budget and set it. Aside for border wall construction that is on top of the eleven billion dollars already planned but down on the border of the project is wreaking havoc for landowners in Texas. It's being built right. Through the middle of many properties leaving thousands of acres in a kind of no man's land between the barriers and the Rio Grande and John Burnett reports this overgrown thorn scrub is the Nether world between the United States and Mexico to the north border fence to the south the muddy meandering Rio Grande. This was Fort Brown Memorial Golf Course on the side of the historic fortification. That gave the city. Its name but with the US government. I started building border. Barriers under President George W. Bush. The entire eighteen hole course ended up on the south side of the fence. Golfers didn't like having to drive through a gate and being walled off from the rest of the city. This spit of land suddenly felt unsafe. None of us come over here. You don't feel protected in any part of the land is south of the wall. Who'll yet Garcia is former president of the University of Texas Brownsville which used to operate the skull course but when the golfers stopped coming it went bankrupt today the clubhouse shuttered and the wants manicured Greens have returned to nature. What used to be a very active place very friendly place for students and far golf team and for Winter Texans has become a deserted sad desolate. No Man's land. President trump has pledged to build more than five hundred miles of new border. Wall out west. It runs along the straight land boundary with Mexico but in Texas that line is the curvy Rio Grande and because of flooding concerns. The Wall is often built some distance away as much as a mile north of the river. The defunct Fort Brown Memorial Golf. Course is a cautionary tale landowners fear. The Wall will effectively sever their acreage from the United States leading. It abandoned lawless and unprofitable so far fifty. Five property owners have gone to court to try to block construction to hear their concerns. I headed West on military highway. First stop is the River Bend Resort and golf club where the owners were planning a major expansion worth. Millions of dollars then came the border wall. The thirty foot wall through the middle of the property kills our project completely kills our project. Jeremy Bernard is part of the family that owns river band. Nearly seven hundred Americans and Canadians from the frigid north moved down here during the winter to enjoy. Short sleeves and Margaritas Bernard Parks his golf cart on the Levy. That overlooks the curved streets. Lined with fancy mobile homes and palm trees. This is where the proposed alignment is from Border Patrol. The problem with that is seventy percent of our property is south of the Levy that includes the REC center the pool tennis courts and fifteen of eighteen holes. All of it would be cut off by the wall. The frustrating thing Bernard says is they rarely see unauthorized immigrants and drug smugglers passing through here. His family is negotiating urgently with customs and Border Protection to move the wall slightly north. So it won't slice their property in half and yet Jeremy Bernard's politics haven't changed he remains loyal to President trump. And I've got friends that disagree with me and they say how could you vote for this man? What his wall wants to tear apart your community. The main thing I tell them look the thought that I'm going to agree. One hundred percent with somebody especially a politician is just outrageous. I just have an issue with the blanket. Let's build a wall everywhere as you continue on military highway urbanized. Brownsville gives way to fields of onions. Cotton and corn here. I find Richard Roy at his farm headquarters leaning on his pickup truck. He's this rich Delta soil all of his life I'm seventy years old and It just it's GonNa ruin my lifestyle here of been living in the country. I've never lived in town and To have that wall. There's just GonNa really disturb me but drawing Nosey can't beat Washington DC so last fall. He reluctantly SOLD THE GOVERNMENT. Aruban of land so they could erect the wall across his crop. Rose like Jeremy Bernard Richard draw supports trump and his all four increasing border security. He just doesn't want the wall in his property. I told him you know this stupid wall is going to have lights on it. It's GONNA be like being in prison while lights and everything and I said You put them lives up on me on my house. You know more. Shoot him out. Of course I have time to calm down. Joy has seen what's happened over the past decade to Riverside land that's isolated by the border wall weeds. Takeover and people are afraid to go there anymore on his farm. He's worried that bad hombres will cross the river from Mexico and threatened his farm hands. He says the wall seeds has property down by the river to Mexico. Like Tola Board. Joe I said look you know goodwill how you build a wall. All agents will done trolling up and down the law. They're never going to go on down to the river anymore. He yield back into the Rio. Grande is the first line of Defense Baloney. You just wait a few years. I shared these misgivings with C. Bp a spokesman responded the Border Patrol will continue to operate on both sides of the barrier to include the riverine environment further. They'll install electric gates with security codes to give landowners access to the south side of the wall. My Westward John. Across the valley terminates at the rustic campground of the Cavazos family. Fred is seventy and in a wheelchair. They were race here. My Dad taught me how to fish. Here OUTTA. Get a shovel and dig worms. He says they run a few cows but the main income is from tenants who built weekend shanties along the water's edge. A lot of time on boats a lot of own jet skis so they come down with us and sausages Saturdays and Sundays and barbecue. It's a hundred four and five so they feel great where you're out there jet skiing. The government wants to put the wall and a wide patrol zone. Along the north end of their property. Cavazos worries it will drive away. His tenants who may not want to be walled off from the rest of Texas like many large families down here the Cavazos clan is split someone to accept what they think is a generous offer from the government. Nearly four hundred thousand dollars for SIX ACRES BUT COUSIN. Ray who seventy-five wonders what happens? If one day they put the land up for sale. The problem is the devaluation of the property. Nobody wants to buy property. That's on the Riverside of the wall. So this is what the fight is going to be about ray. Infrared are fighting the government in federal court. They want to drag it out until election day hoping that the Democrat wins the White House and halts the border wall

Westbrook’s 41 Help Small Ball Rockets Best Lakers

"The other game. I wanted to address COVINGTON. I said made his debut debut. The pocket rocket. So last the Lakers one. twenty-one one eleven so the the first real experiment with the extremely small ball with at least Covington in the mix so far success S. Westbrook at forty one and Bobby Cov- hit two clutch late threes. If fourteen points eight boards really really solid defensive numbers there as well. He's the hit nineteen eighteen threes overall. What did you think from this? Roy Is this. I mean this is fun. We like it because it's unique and it's wild to see and we said the Lakers would be one of those teams like I don't know if they're going to get killed inside well they didn't. I mean the League scored a bunch of points on the paint but on the boards was pretty even and the rockets. Also don't care if you're gonNA score outscored score them in pain 'cause they're like well we're GONNA outscore by thirty from the three point line. which is what they did in this game? It'll be fun to see if this can last. Yeah that's right. They get very impressive win because they came back late and Rub hit one of those threes. Like I think it was. Anthony Davis was right there in his face. He hit it so they win the game. He Hits shutouts working. We'll we need. We need a little bit more of a sample size to really see if it can hold up but good on Russell Westbrook again. I mean man. He's playing the only took two threes last night. One of them he he does seem to have actually been able to real that three point shooting in for this season Because in the past he's gotten sucked into that too shooting away hasn't been a great shooter. You still only shooting. I twenty four percent on the season. So he's realizing that's not my bag baby instead. He's finding otherwise and he's I mean. This is the best Russell. Westbrook broke when he's going inside and taking advantage of matchups where he can use his athleticism speed. So I mean he's he's worked himself into the All Star game two for his play over the last month or so Ah Honestly I believe that because early on it didn't look right and last night. He loves the big stage. He loves the Big Challenge. I love when Ross has it going. And he's feeling it a little bit. He starts barking at everybody at the crowd. It is fun when he's gone. He's feeling that you can see exactly watching this game. You can see exactly why. The rockets made made the trades they did they might have gotten dunked on nineteen times. But they're fun they may nineteen three. So that's an extra nineteen points right there. You GotTa Win The math. Clint Capellas not flipping flipping the math for the rockets. They're going all in on it. I've definitely thought it was hilarious. Seeing the clips from Mike Dantonio pre-game. We might be short. But we're stout James Harden he strong Air Gordon. You can guard begs. PJ Tucker who can guard begs than Anthony Davis one out and was like who cares that you guys are out here dunking every single time it was roast mode but but those are only towns. I think there's a couple of things to remember when you do go super small. Yeah you like you got to play hard all these young small guys. Excuse me sort of got got a box out and like bust their ass. Tucker's incredible and all that I love him. But the other thing you get from playing small is in a forty eight minute game in theory eerie in Syria if the other team are playing their bigs. They're not GONNA be able to sustain that effort over the course of the game and I thought you saw the Lakers look a little more tired as the game went on a little bit. Where the rockets being just the smaller guys more athletic guys are GONNA be able to sustain it in theory a little bit more? That's one thing the other thing though the big benefit over this like five game stretch here where they've gone super small gone pocket rocket they're forcing more turnovers. And that is huge. I mean last night. The rockets scored thirteen points on sixteen laker turnovers. And then the rocks. Okay you flip it while they gave up eleven second chance points on six acres offensive rebounds. But that's still you know. Do the math on that. That's still you're coming up positive. That's a plus too when you're looking at turnover your points and then we're small on the glass but it's okay. Those are the second chance points. And that's been the big difference. They're averaging The other team is like eighteen turnovers per game over this little run here with the Super Bowl small experiments. So that's a big positive and I think just again Covington going to help with that. There's no doubt about that. You know getting deflections and getting these steals lending westbrook go to either then attack or then here comes the you know the the second wave of three point shooters that you've got to try and get a body on Harden Gordon or Tucker in the corner or something like that so that that to me is the obviously too little positives of this going really small. I'm excited to see if it can continue in the regular season injure the playoff series.

Two projects you were going to next to the student Commons which will have all, the student services and dining is, a five hundred bed. Residence hall in any career achievement center which will be the focal point For, students gaining sorta career advice or alums coming back. To. Either find new careers or to hire our students.
