"Make it closer about what they do, this month with their read hike. Shana, thank you, Shannon sissel, president at Bain capital. One of the big market stories, a huge 20 basis drop in the yield on the two year treasury, but getting more on the markets coming up with Doug prisoner. This is Bloomberg. Bloomberg radio on demand and in your podcast feed. On the latest edition of the tape podcast, a conversation with Randy schwimmer of Churchill asset management. A bunch of private credit folks out there that are putting money into the space. It's kind of tough to get deals done, I guess when interest rates aren't zero. So talk to us about what you're seeing in the marketplace. So we have a January was actually a busy month February, busy as well. I haven't gotten the final numbers yet. What we're seeing is that general flow to your point in M and a is off from last year at this time. Part because of what's going on with interest rates. In part because of the lack of a straight line that the fed, we all got thinking, hey, 75, 50, 25, they're going to do 25 again and then maybe hold off. All of a sudden the fed chairs floating 50 basis points. That's a little bit of a surprise. But generally speaking in private credit and private equity, the capital is long term and these private equity sponsors that we work with and general indirect lending have raised capital over a long period of time with strategies that are not short term. So they have in their pipeline deals that they've been working on for months and months and months. And they're coming to us increasing numbers now as they get the sense that the economy is strong because one of the things that people are missing is how strong businesses are that are in defensive sectors. So healthcare, technology, software, our portfolio, which is mostly defensive, is up revenue wise, entire portfolio, 30% over the last year. Cash flows a little less, 29%. And I think in general, that part of the business, defensive sectors, the private equity sponsors are

"We'll get more on this when we get to our guest chain of sissel coming up in a few moments. That will be after we get to global news. Are you as president Joe Biden firing off his opening budget bid amounting to some $6.9 trillion and backed it with global news in the 9 60 news from the San Francisco Eduardo. Yeah, Brian, there's very targeted emphasis on China competition here, a major increase of investments in the indo Pacific, part of the Pacific deterrence initiative from 6.1 billion to 9.1 billion. That being said, Congress appropriated 11.5 billion for this year. So next year may be even more, it includes money for missile defense systems in Guam and Hawaii. The whole package sets up a heated battle in the U.S. over debt ceiling and government funding overall, Bloomberg Joe Matthew runs through some of the asks. A 25% tax on billionaires, a near doubling of the capital gains tax, a hike in the corporate tax rate back to 28% and a higher personal income tax rate of 39.6% for people making over $400,000 a year. The president says those making less will not see tax hikes. So the president in a campaign type stump address in Philadelphia says he's seeking fairness. Around 650 billionaires in America. Now there's over a thousand. You know what the average tax they pay federal tax 3%. And he says they should not pay less than a teacher or firefighter, also said he would protect the so called entitlement programs. Social security, my budget will not cut benefits and it will definitely won't some set programs like some of my nigga Republican friends want to do. A secure Medicare through 2015 beyond. Now the president says he's proposing some deficit reduction measures, but Bloomberg math says in 2024 would increase from 1.6 to 8 1.8 billion from one 6 to one 8, his request well has little chance of passing in this form, didn't even pass a democratic legislature. Heads of U.S. intelligence a day are saying they do not believe China wants a war over Taiwan. Today it is a House intelligence committee and director of national intelligence Avril Haines, along with CIA director William burns, says president Xi has taken notice of the allied response to Ukraine and says it would hurt his growth, but then turned and said, never underestimate China intentions when it comes to what it calls unification of Taiwan. US Treasury Department says 5 Chinese companies are directly implicated in supplying parts for Iranian drones that wind up in Russia killing Ukrainians. It is imposed sanctions on them and Kyiv dozens of missiles launched all over Ukraine today some 80 missiles and White House spokesman John Kirby says about 40% of Kyiv now is without power and says it could just be the beginning. We do think the next four to 6 months is going to see more vicious fighting on the ground in Ukraine. Yeah, the IAEA chief, meanwhile, is asking for a safe zombie established around the nuclear plants in the future and vote today NPC expected to easily back president Xi Jinping for his third term. Global news powered by more than 2700 journalists and analysts no 120 countries in San Francisco. I met Baxter and this is Bloomberg. I'm Ryan Curtis, along with Paul Allen, and this is Bloomberg daybreak, Asia, our guest is Shana sissel, president of and capital. So Shana, a lot going on, the jobs report the fed's interest rate policy in light of this SVB story, the BOJ meeting, what has your attention the most this morning? I think the jobs report more than anything, it's kind of interesting the SVB story is coming at such an interesting time because we just had chairman Powell testifying in front of Congress talking about how he's going to continue to be aggressive that the economy remains resilient. And the job market remains tight and then all of a sudden you have this major news and all the banks sell off and all of a sudden there's genuine people genuinely concerned about running the bank and this is a large bank. This isn't a small bank. And then there's the job report tomorrow. And with all the panic around the banking system, if the job report is good, that's not good for markets. Yeah, it's a very interesting situation, isn't it? And how does this play into your opinion about the chances of a recession? And if there is one, are we going to look back on this moment as being somewhat pivotal? Well, I've always been of the belief that we are going to have a recession. I've been pretty consistent in believing that we're going to have a shallow recession. There wasn't and I still don't believe there's a lot of cracks in the financial system that would warrant it being a truly devastating type of recession like we saw after the financial crisis. But I do think that when you're starting to see contagion because if you think about this all kind of started with the crypto custodians and then the banks that dealt with crypto and then a lot of VC money is in crypto and blockchain. And so you're seeing things spread. And I think Silicon Valley bank is a very unique situation. They are the biggest player in the venture space. There's not really anybody else that has that kind of exposure. But anytime you see a very large bank of that caliber come under this kind of stress, it can lead to additional stress kind of becoming pervasive in the financial markets. And so I think now that's why I'm so concerned about the jobs report because if it is good and all indications are, it's going to be a strong job report. It kind of puts the fed in the corner. They kind of have to stay with the policy that they've been communicating. It may beg the story about whether investors are more concerned now about recession than they are runaway inflation. And I think that that's very true, I think. So for instance, if you get a weak number, if you get a weak jobs number, would that be good or bad for the equity complex? I think that would be good for the equity complex. Because I think that is one of the key indicators that the fed is

"You know, but at the same time that there's not necessarily the attention paid or the kind of global struggles in the same way as perhaps a century ago, or the intellectual ferment of different ideas, all sort of crossing each other. Maybe isn't as strong. Again, I may be wrong about that. But I guess and you feel free to correct me, but is do you see this story as being something that is, you know, something that activists leftists, liberals even can pull something from in terms of thinking about the present. Absolutely. Well, you know, I mean, I feel like this is a history of the present, a history for the present, a history for a different future. So, you know, I mean, this question is definitely on my mind. And I guess I'd answer that by saying the first chapter of this book, the introduction is called how to make a rope. And in that chapter, I try to kind of give a device for understanding the whole book. And I tell the story of the political economy of the turn of the century lynch rope. And I do this because I think there's a fascinating story about how the different strands came from different coexisting regimes of accumulation. So there's Manila from U.S. imperial control of the Philippines. This is the fiber that constitutes most of North American rope. There are fibers that come from Jim Crow sharecropping regimes. There's also a number of fibers called hankin and sissel derivatives of the agave plant that come from the southernmost Mexican state of the Yucatan. And so there's this extraordinary way that if you understand how these different strands were braided together in the production of this instrument of both commerce and racist tyranny, you can begin to understand how the world was pulled together. Under global capital in this moment. But the introduction also unravels this strand and tries to think about the different struggles that are connected through this commodity. And I do this by way of saying there's a way that radicals in the past and also us in the present can understand how these forces, well, in the tradition of social history, people think about how capital has always produced its own unintended negations. And there are ways in which our fates are tied by the regimes that pull us together. You know, the struggle often is like, as I say in the book, struggle for internationalism is not as simple as saying workers of the world unite, you know, or must unite, right? I mean, there's an enormous number of fetters that I talk about in the book that we have to overcome in order to achieve any kind of solidarity. But one thing that I feel like I try to do in this book is really desegregate radical history. These stories are told together because they happen together because people were talking with each other because people were trying to make sense of each other's struggles with humility with creativity with boldness. I call this the kind of excess that falls out of rather rigid institutionalized histories of the left. And, you know, I mean, I'll just say from having presented different parts of this particularly to activist groups of very young activists, I think the sense that our fates are tied that are histories are tied that this is not something that we have to reinvent in the present is an incredibly powerful galvanizing idea that I feel like we have to take more seriously. Yeah, that's a great way to end this. And I want to thank you again for being with us today. That was really wonderful.

"Overlooked names. Shaina, thank you so much for joining us Jane sissel that I found it and the president at banner and capital management getting her market outlook, her take on the Federal Reserve's actions in their battle against inflation. We got a lot more on the way this is Bloomberg. This is the Bloomberg green report. Climate risk is something some people take into consideration when deciding where they want to live. But for many other factors take precedence, Redfin identified 34 metros as experiencing intense drought and 25 of the metro saw more people move in than move out in the second quarter. Many of the drought prone metros are in the sun belt, which is more popular than ever, a red thin agent in Las Vegas says a lot of home buyers have expressed concerns about drought, especially since the shrinking of Lake mead made national headlines, but she says drought is not a deal breaker for most of her clients and influx of migration as compounding the climate dangers in some areas, one example is Utah, where population growth is among the factors causing the great Salt Lake to dry up, experts say there are toxic chemicals in the Lake bed, and if the Lake continues to receive those chemicals could get picked up in wind storms and poison residents, Jeff Bellinger, Bloomberg radio. "All right straight over to Doug krisna having a look at the market action Hey yeah ray Chet was a fourth day of losses here for the U.S. equity market giving growing stress over the situation regarding Ukraine President Biden has expended the sanctions against Russia and the European Union formally approved a package of penalties Now both the stock and bond markets were negative but clearly the heavy losses were inequities only one group within the S&P 500 was higher wanna guess energy up 1% today Now the overall market was down as I mentioned with the S&P dropping more than 1.8% pushing it deeper into a correction The Dow weaker today by 1.4% NASDAQ comp weaker by 2.6% Now treasuries extended losses in those declines forced rates across the entire yield curve higher a ten year and a 5 year check that and the two year both picked up about 5 basis points with a ten year last quoted at 1.98% the two year at 1.60% We were talking earlier about this rally in crude oil but it reversed course crude had been up more than 2% and then The White House said it was looking to release oil from those strategic reserves We ended 92 ten with a gain of only about two tenths of 1% Later in Seoul the bank of Korea will announce its policy decision and we have Brian the Japanese equity market back online in about an hour Yeah yesterday was kind of a calm day but it looks like things will heat up a little bit today We've got the NASDAQ nearing a bear market now and we've got Shane as sissel coming up in a few minutes We'll talk more with her about market Shane is the founder and president of banri and capital management and she'll be with us in a few moments All right let's take a look at some of these top stories here President Biden expanding U.S. sanctions against Russia new penalties target the builder of the Nord stream two gas pipeline and its corporate leadership This comes a day after Germany moved to halt certification of the project We spoke earlier with the Ukraine foreign minister Dmitry kaliba he said that if Nord stream two sanctions had been imposed earlier then the situation today might have been avoided They said that more needs to be done against Russia It sends a strong message to Putin but it still doesn't stop him so it means we need more sanctions We need the second wave and then probably the third way until he gets clear to him that he shouldn't make any step further Earlier on Wednesday the European Union formally approved a package of sanctions including penalties on 23 high ranking Russian individuals And in the UK prime minister Boris Johnson told the leaders of London's big financial firms to expect tougher sanctions on Russia if this crisis escalates Alibaba has halted talks to raise at least $1 billion for lozada Lozada is Barbara's Southeast Asian ecommerce platform We're talking Alibaba called off the talks because it fails to get into target valuation for lozada Now we're hearing that Baba has a shelved of fundraising plan due to volatile volatility in markets Now that's been of course made worse by speculation of more regulatory scrutiny in China's tech industry Still we're told the Taliban remains intent on eventually spinning off lazard as a separate entity and talks could resume if conditions change Alibaba's third quarter earnings due Thursday at 7 30 a.m. Wall Street time The time is now 5 minutes past the hour and it's time for global news This major development today the Kremlin says separatists in the two breakaway regions of Ukraine are asking Putin for help that Baxter has global news from the 9.

"So then what happened between then and point were you told me. Yeah you know it's over. I'm going to go through. I'm gonna go check the receipts. I'm looking at the messages and see what you 'cause. I'm like ninety nine percent sure. Yeah we broke up with over. And again i mean i. I've already broken up with him but then he's like let's just talk. We need to talk about things. And i always go back over there. And we talk about things and he's sissel convincing and like he's really a nice guy he doesn't mean to be like a we he is sometimes but just some of the things. He does like our red flag. You know and. I'm like but i continue. How did i not. And then he's talking to me. It's like i don't know if any ever out there like you know like when they talk to you when you were texting it's completely different. And when they're talking to you you see if they're being sincere night kinda. I see that he's being sincere about how he feels about me. And i'm like well you know maybe we should just I hate eighty eight. It right that. No no. I get it. A lot of female friends are have the same sentiment is if they don't like having to go through all the bullshit especially now at least my friends at age group is like thirty and up. I do have a few friends. That are like in their twenties. But they're almost thirty so twenty seven ish up but they're still wanting something seriously. want something monogamous. but they don't like the whole locates. We gotta hook up and you're hooking up with like one to seven different guys before you finally figure out okay this guy wanna stay with or whatever you know and in at least a perception i get from you. You're a little more conservative. As far as like just throwing it out there he just like. Hey dj abundant. You're you're more old school children to think about. You know i have kids. I have to think about you know. I can't just be like bringing someone over and it's just something. I always thought i need to think about who i'm going to bring over. Who gonna introduced my kids because for me my kids are like sacred and i just don't bring anybody around my family and like i think it's something serious and when they do bring somebody somebody around my family. I don't just break it off just because something happened because it's like okay. I just broke it off. Because he didn't put the seat down on that or something and then my kids have to see somebody meal and it's like i feel like you know i'm not. I'm at a point in my life for. I don't feel that petty things needs to be constantly looked at. It's like you can overlook some of those things you know like if it can workout. Then why not. Yeah i totally agree in you know like i said some female friends acquaintances that i know they. They don't even care about that. Like is there will be okay with bringing a guy over as as a kid doesn't see so if the kid is at their dad's house or if the kids are asleep and she comes home at two in the morning and kicks him out at four. You know they'll they'll do that. And you know so. There's a range of how females address and take care and do things around their kids or with their kids. Sometimes our kids are out of the house. Sometimes they don't have kids but let's talk about what the issue is. And why you wanted to break up with them or.

"Touchdown flacco author touchdown and is wailing. It was so aggressive. I don't know what's wrong with me but it's going to happen again. I'm just warning. Everybody and i would request that. No one make fun of me. Just letting be and enjoy my time. I'll be there to get christie. Pre-game tailgates for parks so better. They lot or no. That's what i'm saying. Because i'll be excited. Everybody's gonna be raising. You'd better come k. Lot i will be there but are looking ahead to the actual game so positives coming out of week. One as well for the eagles. No major injuries knock on. It was a great week. One load management going on a little bit some load management happening with the philadelphia eagles. Which i don't necessarily hate especially literally season like heap. Everybody good My only thing about it is as long as they're getting enough reps in practice where their stamina is going to be good for later in the season will we need them to be in for the entire time. That's my only thing. But i mean i'm not sure they think that as well right I mean like guys. Like fletcher cox miles sanders brand. Graham lane johnson. Jason kelsey and darius slay all had just rest days so they've got rest wednesday full participants in thursday. And then we'll be. I assume friday as well and ready to go for sunday Avantis maddox was actually just added to the injury report yesterday with a knee issue of some kind. So let's hope that's okay marcus. Apps is still in concussion protocol. He was limited in practice. But it's trend. It appears that he's on track to play sunday. Which is good. Because rodney mcleod is still limited. It looks for him to play. I will say though when dickerson was a full participant in practice yesterday for the first time. Do you think because obviously his role that he's eventually going to take over jason calc- when he retires you think we'll see if he is healthy will see some from him or just the occasional. Fill in here in there. I don't think he's going to replace. Anyone is a starter. But i know but for injury. Yeah okay i do they. I mean the now. Do we trust everything. The eagles say. No they've also said they don't intend on having this as a redshirt year for him so when he was getting a lot of work in at right guard the other day. When i'm brandon brooks was in limit was limited in practice so they were kind of switching out on wraps there Unless someone is playing so aggressively bad but right now i mean even someone like say a marlow who's like really taken a couple of steps forward and has played really. Well i i like. There's no one that he's going to replace. Someone gets hurt but So eagles are looking good. Hopefully they continue to look good on the injury front san francisco not as much on their secondary is in trouble. They have two guys they just brought in to the active roster this week one from the practice squad one that they just signed two rookies and josh norman. Rip lost her. He most for the season lost their starting linebacker. A dray greenlaw for the season And there are other starting corner. Emmanuel moseley didn't practice on thursday. They have solely defensive players on their limited practice list. As well including eric armstead ed deport so against sissel her snicks year. Let's get that it my friend The it's they last week. I was just gonna say familiar scorgeous thirty. Three's at a nice They put up a forty piece last week over what it was against literally one of the worst teams in the nfl so bad they also i mean. They almost lost that game they gave up. What twenty four points in the second half or something. The last two minutes of the geen Note in the second half year right but they were losing or winning by twenty four in the last two minutes of the game gave up sixteen in that final. Two minutes. That about a stressful. Yep i mean jimmy. Garoppolo was was fine. Seventeen to twenty five hundred fourteen yards and a touchdown no no interceptions. But he lost a fumble As well as deebo samuel lost a fumble. You know what what could hurt you from the i. it's not jimmy garoppolo. That that frightens me. It's what the skill the guys can do. Once the ball is in their hands. Did you see that catch. Deebo samuel like. That's a phenomenal. Play that he made to get out in space and score on that seventy nine yard bomb like that's that's frightening and his speed deebo and i think obviously the most frightening parts of their offense coming into this week. I don't remember. Kim hurt last year when the eagles played in san fran. I'm pretty sure he was. Yes because i know he had injury issues last year. But i didn't remember he was there for that game or not or maybe just came back or something. Yeah or something like that. Yeah maybe got hurt during the i don't remember But he is one of the best if not the best tight end after the catch. So that's where he can hurt you. And we've seen how horrific the philadelphia eagles are when their linebackers are in coverage of tight. Ends especially now with some of these different looks that are being provided by jonathan gan. Let's let's hope that we don't have any nathan gerry situations.

That would reach inside. Someone's house and he drove around offering his cleaning services so he just walked giant hose and hose your house no he would suck suck and hose you down. He'd suck so he pull up in front of your house and say hey you want me to vacuum your house. And then he dragged the hose in from the carriage. And just start sucking ty cobb on this day made his major league debut in baseball in nineteen o five with detroit tiger. He was a lovely burst. He was complete creek. Use a total cock this guy in nineteen thirteen speaking of baseball. The phillies had a lead over the giants. Eight to six and the top of the ninth and so fans of the phillies started to distract the giants by screaming and throwing things from the bleachers causing the umpired a forfeit the game in favor of the giants in one thousand nine hundred some just like philly even in nineteen thirteen. I couldn't believe the tradition goes back. That far i started it. Maybe we did it more. Sports news in nineteen thirty seven joe. Louis had his first defence of his world heavyweight title against british. Tommy farr now. He was supposed to take tommy far out easily But tommy farr gave him a better fight than anyone expected. It lasted for the full. Fifteen rounds and joe louis had to win on points but Stunning the audience was tommy fars reserve. They shouldn't have been surprised if they had listened to him in this little clip from a newsreel regarding the upcoming fight anyway lewis looks in good pharmacy chains for the fight for his life..

I am concerned early on about the offense jailing because i keep being told that the defense is going to be superb. So it's easy to figure out what alabama needs to do this year to win. 'cause bobby was just hooping and hollering and just having such a tremendous time and she thought with her professional mining which she gathered her thoughts and said one or two things. Either he's going to be really good or he's going to be gone quickly. That's great emails him. Yeah what what what. What a. What a blessing college football has had to have such a character of his statue to embrace the greatness of college shortfall for all these years and then One other thing.
