"Your area. At Bloomberg markets, our guests know where to get the answers just to put a good word in for Bloomberg, one of the few systems you can easily use to figure it out is right in front of you. Inside. Analysis. In the best from the Bloomberg terminal. The Bloomberg terminal is like a Ducati Panigale. I can extract maybe 5 to 6% of a total. I don't think you're even close. I think it's like sitting on top of a Saturn B 5. Bloomberg markets with Paul Sweeney and Matt Miller, weekday mornings at ten eastern, on Bloomberg radio. To the country, SiriusXM channel one 19 and around the globe, the Bloomberg business app in Bloomberg radio dot com. This is Bloomberg daybreak Asia. And at 8 30 here in Singapore, I'm hustling the army. And I'm Doug prisoner. 7 30 p.m. on Wall Street, Thanksgiving Day from the Bloomberg interactive broker studio in New York. Welcome to daybreak, Asia. We've got trading underway in a Tokyo Sydney and soul in about 60 minutes or so, the action will begin in Hong Kong and on the Chinese mainland. It's kind of a mixed picture right now, the nikkei showing some weakness. We also have the equity market in South Korea, trading a bit lower. Some positivity though in Sydney where the ASX 200 ahead by about a tenth of 1%. And we are seeing US Treasury yields move lower right across the curve has that was the story here in the U.S. yesterday with those dovish fed minutes. I'll take a closer look at market action. In a moment or two. Well, that's right. And let's get to our exclusive dog binan CEO chomping chow, says that billions of dollars were missing from FDX boogs and binance was looking to acquire the disgraced crypto farm. I spoke earlier with chow. He said a number of discrepancies make the information they had on FTX unreliable. Some of that conversation. We became very quickly there was a lot of funds missing. To the teams of double digit billings. I couldn't trust any of the information in the data room. That's a virtual data room, basically like a cloud drive. I couldn't believe I couldn't trust any of the information. So I don't believe any of the information we got was accurate or precise. So that made it that made the process a lot more difficult, but we don't have full access to the FTX books or the trading history we didn't have that. It was a very simple snapshot of a data room. CC, you talked about genesis earlier, it is this is likely to fall for bankruptcy if it can't get at least $1 billion in fresh capital and just wondering, are you interested in bidding for its books? I think I don't want to comment on the specifics. I think we generally assume that we have NDS in place with almost every player in the business. But genesis publicly halted withdrawals basically meaning that they are liquidity issues. So I believe our team is engaged with them. I don't know all the specific details. But there's different numbers following publicly. And there are different numbers we get through direct private channels. Also, the one of the tricky parts in this industry is whenever you talk about a U.S. dollar number, that number changes every minute with a volatility in crypto prices. So I think our teams engaged we're not sure I'm not sure right now what extent we will or will not do certain things. So I don't know all the details. There is a lack of trust, a lack of confidence in the crypto industry right now. Can the industry survive if genesis were to go bust? Oh, the industry was survived. The industry have no issues. They will be paying whenever one player goes down. But Janice is probably has a less than a couple $1 billion on their books. So if genesis goes down and genesis mostly service, I believe institutional investors probably to have some retail. But if genesis goes down, just means a small portion of businesses or institutions or even some retail users will be hurt. But the industry will be fine. And that was binance CEO jumping chow there. And Doug, it was interesting. It was a wide ranging interview. He said he was precarious when it comes to FTX. You heard what he said. He could not trust the information it provided. But he did say that FDA's invested in a number of different projects. Some of them were okay, some of them were bad, certain assets are salvageable. He said, and so his looking to look at FDX assets as they come through bankruptcy proceedings. So he is interested in some of those assets. Yeah, it's interesting. So to create a fund or a pile of money worth about a $1 billion to buy distressed assets, that's one way you could kind of say, hey, look, I'm trying to be a savior. I'm trying to rescue the industry, but many people were kind of blaming him for helping to create the problems for FTX, right? Yeah, that's right. I think had to do with the tweet that he made and I think he's not a savior as far as the industry's concerned, but he is trying to save it, he says, you know, that bell and Della fund, he said, that's a start. If it requires more, he'll top it up. Remember the Voyager bit he made and lost his son brangman fried in September. He'll make another bit for it now that Sam is out of the picture. I mean, he'll be competing with the likes of other exchanges like cross tower, other companies for that as well. So I guess in a way, he's trying to make amends in a sense, but as far as the entries can sell on, well, he's not a savior, they say. Good conversation, Haas, thank

"Back. Okay. Even though we could all hear her. I guess maybe the viewing audience and listening audience on SiriusXM channel one 12 couldn't. But okay, so the apple thing is interesting. Because in addition to being, you could argue the most important stock in the market because it's the biggest with the most waiting yada yada yada. It was also a massive run from the June lows that Apple has made up until now. So if you've kind of got in at the right time and this is giving you some profits to take, is there a reason why Apple doesn't then become kind of like that canary in the coal mine, so to speak or the tea leaf about what's going to happen in the future? Where the ATM, my guest for people to I don't know. I mean, we talked about Apple, I think Carter made an excellent call. I think it was one 70, maybe. We said, that's it. That's the top four Apple. So we're down. I don't know what almost 10% ish from there. I am long Apple. I'm not going to sell it here to try to buy a cheaper because then you've got to make the right decision twice. Sell it, right? Buy it right back. I know I'm going to be incapable of doing that. But it is a bellwether for the market. It's obviously giant. And if it goes down, we're going to go down further. But I feel like I feel like a bottom is in sight. Europe, I thought would get crushed over the week. Over the weekend, into today. And it didn't. Especially with those Nat gas prices. Exactly. Exactly. I think maybe guy if you have this, all of these things are kind of pent up, right? It's the classic cliche in the market's wall of worries, everything else, brick in here, and brick there. If all of these things are happening right now, and the markets are seemingly not in panic mode, right? There's no capitulation. Things are drifting lower. Does this then maybe perhaps even bode well for the idea that this is a revaluation taking place and not a flush out given the fact that we kind of understand higher interest rates are going to be here economies are going to slow down and people are going to change their models, assuming higher risk free rates and everything else. And this is just the way that it's playing out, not panic just down. Yeah, that's the half full scenario without question and I understand that. I'm inclined to be the half empty person and say, that's actually probably what you just described is not a good thing. It's probably a bad thing because there's going to be this capitulation moment yet to come, which I think is going to happen. I don't know what the catalyst would be. It might be Apple. It might be some pre announcement out of Apple. Hey, the demand that we thought we'd see is not there. I'm not suggesting that's it. But something's going to happen to next leg lower. So that scenario is best case, I just don't see it happening. And I just had one thing. Just the vix, the Vic should be it much harder. I know that's something Tim actually. Yes, I'm going to bring that and we got another conversation happening in just a couple of minutes, but that's going to be a point that a lot of traders have made to me in kind of commentary on the sidelines is that what's going on, the vix is nowhere near where it should be if this is going to be something where things are kind of, but that also means that it could go a lot worse. Well, especially when the biggest markets in the world, guy talks about treasury markets. How about currency markets? How about I know people don't our audience don't really look at dollar yen to offer? Oh, no, we're going to get this. Out of bed and indicating that there's a total breakdown. And we know that the BOJ has been an outlier. But the currency markets are also telling you, again, we have two, three standard deviation moments in the biggest asset classes in the world. Equities aren't really responding in a way that they might and again, I hate to sound like guys glass half empty. But there could be a catch up trade, right? Because to Karen's point, where you did see the drama play out from the European side of things, was certainly in the currency markets, right? You got British pounds in Euros sinking against the U.S. dollar. And a 5 to 10% move in a currency. It may not seem like a lot for us. It's massive when it comes to the currency markets. And a stronger dollar is only putting more pressure on most of the S&P right now. For shuffling the fed though. Okay, so let's take this to the next chapter, right? Our next guest believes there is a 50 50 shot that we have a new bear market low coming up in the coming weeks. He's Julian Emanuel. He's the senior managing director at Evercore ISI. He's been on the show. He's a regular, so Julian, this is the conversation that you've been listening to around the table. This somewhat tilted pessimistically, and you're saying there's a 50 50 shot of new lows in sight. Why? Well, first of all, because if you think about it, the market spent June, July and half of August fighting the fed, successfully, okay? But part of the reason Jackson hole was so jarring, first of all, it was like an 8 minute drop the mic. You're never going to hear him probably be more hawkish than that sound bite is because it became clear that after that kind of rally and the fed is not targeting stock prices, by the way. The fed is targeting financial conditions. They got too loose. That could change if the data begin to move in their direction. The problem with today is the data moved towards a stronger sort of direction. But I want to go back to a comment than Karen made a few moments ago. Buying it right selling it right, multi decisions. If you look at the last 5 or 6 weeks, the whip saw to the upside and then to the downside was really unprecedented only four times since 1950 and actually the data shows that it was so extreme that sentiment is as poor that we may not make a new low, okay? Our base case is that you're going to have more volatility September and October probably grind lower and then ultimately we're going to look ahead to the first half of 23 where the fed may go on hold. So Julian, you kind of hurt us mentioning some of the stocks that are kind of in focus right now. Either as bellwethers or indicators of what could lie ahead. In your mind, in that kind of environment where you could maybe test the lows coming up, you maybe have a shot to the upside. Where do you put the money then, what types of companies do you look at? Do you look at it by sector? Do you look at it by growth versus value? What are the factors that go into them, the stocks that you think outperformed? So again, and make no bones about it. We all agree this is a defensive environment. In that kind of environment, we're tilting towards value, no question about it because even though values worked over the last year and a half, it's still under own relative to everything else. But what we really like is this idea of return of capital versus return on capital. So companies that have very good free cash flow and you find them across industries as well as a propensity to give that back to shareholders in dividends and stock buybacks, those are the names you want to own because they're inherently less volatile because they manage their own volatility. I mean, if you look at around the idea that people put such a premium on profitability, going to this earnings season, right? Even Kramer said it.

"Hours a day on air and on Bloomberg quicktake powered by more than 2700 journalists and analysts in more than 120 countries. I'm Susanna Palmer. This is Bloomberg. Broadcasting from the financial capital of the world Bloomberg 11 trio in New York to Washington, D.C., Bloomberg 99 one to Boston, Bloomberg one O 6 one to San Francisco, Bloomberg 9 60 to the country. SiriusXM channel one 19 and around the globe, the Bloomberg business app in Bloomberg radio dot com. This is Bloomberg businessweek. So about two weeks ago, the Bloomberg noted that the U.S. cannabis market size expected to reach 40 billion by 2030 and expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of nearly 15% over that time. That's a new report tin that's app by grand view research, growth driven, at least this report said by increased legalization. Okay, so with this increased legalization, how are people who are using cannabis using it? Well, cure leaf just got some new data. They did this survey with Harris poll and it found that 91% of adults who are over the age of 21 who have ever consumed cannabis, they've actually done so for health and wellness purposes, Carol, as opposed to, well, you know, recreational, I would suppose. All right, so let's get to our guests with us. Is station woodcock? She is clinical cannabis pharmacist a cure leaf joining us via Zoom in New York City. So tell us a little bit more about how people are using it because we do see growth in the industries. So tell us a bit more though about specifically where people are using it and for what reasons. Yeah, you know, I think this survey really helped clear up a lot of the stigma surrounding cannabis. People think that it's for escapism, for fun recreational purposes. But what we're really seeing is that by and large, the people that are consuming cannabis are doing so for help and wellness, it's for stress. It's for anxiety. It's for sleep. And the bigger takeaway is that over half of these people are using cannabis instead of pharmaceuticals. And I think one thing the COVID-19 pandemic did was sort of shift people towards more natural homeopathic sort of remedies and cannabis falls into that for a lot of people. How are they using it, not what are they using it for? How are they using it? Are they eating edibles? Are they smoking it or are they? Yeah, I mean I think that's the most fascinating fascinating thing about it. People think cannabis they think smoking, smoking is actually bad for you, no matter what it is. So we see a lot of vaporization. And I think that's a good opportunity to remind people that we're talking about legal regulated products. So these are products that are sold through legal state markets. They're tested. They don't have pesticides. They don't have contaminants. There's nothing else in these vaporized products other than pure cannabis oil. And the terpenes found within the plant. That's really important because illicit market products are not regulated that way. We're seeing a lot of contaminated products. So these regulated products are much safer for people to consume. But we're also seeing the pharmaceutical industry technology brought into cannabis. So if you think of a traditional cannabis edible that takes like an hour to kick in and can last for 8 hours, we can change that with nano formulation that makes cannabis easier to be absorbed by the body. So you can consume it in a beverage in a gummy formation. It's gonna work in like 15 minutes and only last for an hour or two. So people can really customize the products that they're using to the symptoms that they're looking for if you want to sleep all night. You can use something that's going to last all night. If you just need something for anxiety or stress right now, we have products for that too. So the versatility of the products really determines sort of what you're using them for. So tell me though, stasia, who should be using it because when you say homeopathic and I know there's been a lot moving forward in terms of greater oversight of homeopathic remedies. But I mean, I want transparency. I want to know what I'm kind of getting into. Yeah, absolutely. I think one of the things that we see a lot are people that are comfortable with the idea of cannabis for cancer for multiple sclerosis for Parkinson's disease. Like these really severe disease states. And there's a lack of understanding that it actually can be utilized for things like arthritis, or menstrual cramps for migraines for stress for anxiety. I mean, we have patients and consumers coming in all the time for much simpler symptoms. And even more importantly, not all cannabis causes euphoria. I think that's also a huge misunderstanding that if you use cannabis, you're going to be stoned. That's absolutely not the case. The products come in a lot of different formulations, doses, ratios. So we can really customize what you're getting and how it's going to affect you for your lifestyle. But I guess what I wanted to go back to is remind me where we are in terms of FDA oversight of all of this. Yeah, there is no FDA oversight right now. It's all state by state regulated, but that's where that regulation comes into place. So the testing, the formulations, all of that is essentially pharmaceutical grade. Even without FDA oversight. Do we get to a point where there is that FDA oversight or we get to a point where, you know, I'm actually going to my primary care physician and she or he is recommending that I go to the pharmacy and pick up some cannabis, not going to a dispensary. Exactly. Yeah, I mean, that would require federal legalization and that's something I think the industry is definitely moving toward. Because access is huge. Right now, someone who is a patient in New York say they can't travel to a different state legally with their medicine. And that's a problem. So we need that accessibility to open up for people to be able to consume and have whatever they're using it for to be able to cross state lines, have consistent product. You know, that's also something we're moving toward. But I think removing the stigma and seeing what people are using it for is a huge step in that direction. That stasia woodcock she's clinical cannabis pharmacist over accurately. You're listening to Bloomberg businessweek, coming up. Can you really, really get a stake by Bobby Flay from a food truck? "Which is why you see something like last night, you're like, how deep of a threat can the nets be? And then, no, honestly, 'cause Tyree might play many years when next he isn't. But when they are playing, that was something else last night. Because lost again, amongst the whole Simmons stuff will be our James time to hit the road. Figuratively, time for the rubber to hit the road here. Let's go. Big games. What are you going to do in big games, big games 5s, big game 7s, pivotal game 5s, big game 7s, whole countries watching, only game on right now. Three is 17. -30, which by the way, embiid was last night too. Yeah. Well, I guess that's what your number is going to be when the rest of your team is getting its ass kicked. Three is 17. Is not acceptable. Come on. Martin was one of 11 at one point. And then he was on the bench getting his calf worked on and you're just like, here we go again. Another injury. Oh yeah. I'll tell you what, I would be genuinely concerned. Okay, so we had three games where this was the best trade of all time. And then we have one game where it looks like it's working to collective basketball world, rich was saying this. Okay. And now we have one bad game. And there was a bad game and now it's like well I'm treating the NBA as if it was the NFL. Because they could come back tonight or tomorrow night. Look great. And forget it. So who cares? I'm just pointing out big game would have been nice. There's a lot on the line and similar to a playoff atmosphere at three 17. And we said, I think he said, well, first union. It's Wells Fargo. I can't figure out. And Elle is an L, regardless of the name of the building. So there was that one last night. But they have two days off. There was that one last night. "Or on SiriusXM channel one 19 All right with that let's get over to David Reilly He joins us right now from blue bay asset management where he is the chief investment strategist and David I'll just first ask for your take on today's jobs report I know it's just one set of data points but what do you make of it Yeah I think you got to take it as a good report when you get almost a half point decline in the unemployment rate And I think the big picture that the report shows is that the U.S. labor market is tight And I think we're going to see the fed go ahead with accelerating hyper December meeting and the debate I think is really around how far rates get to go when the fed starts hiking probably around June time There has been a little bit of debate though that the equity markets were following what the bond markets had been telling us You're seeing credit spreads Why just a little bit And I know that within your work with an investment grade and high yield we're looking at investment grade spreads the highest now since December 2020 How is the fundamental picture Yes That's really good point because you're right We have seen quite a meaningful widening in credit spreads As you say in terms of investment grade but also if we look at for example the riskiest corporate debt So triple C rated there that's widened out to about 700 basis points So I think the credit market is an interesting place for investors to look to make the call about what is the outlook fundamentals At the moment I think what's credit market is saying is that given the uncertainty given the reduction in liquidity and the fed about to embark on a hiking cycle we want more risk compensation And I think that is sending a message to other essay classes as well where valuations are stretched I don't think the widening in spreads though is yet to a level which signals concern amongst critic investors that were going to see a meaningful slowdown in U.S. growth and an increase in default risk Yeah I keep going back to this story that was put out the other day about that corporate profit The economy is doing fairly well Certainly corporations are earning money Is that set to change at all And would it change David if the fed hiked rates once or twice I don't think it does change if the fed is hiking rates just a couple of times And then what we've seen in terms of corporate balance sheets and borrowing in capital markets is that particularly in the investment grade space but also actually in the high yield bond market companies have been mostly turning out their debt So essentially they've been refinancing looking in these very low yields and pushing out the maturity of their debt So they're not hyper sensitive to higher interest rates and cost of funding I think where I would disagree with the broader bond market and the treasury market is I think with the flattening of the curve that we're seeing the bond market is saying we're not so sure that the fed can really raise rates too far before it starts having a meaningful negative impact on U.S. growth prospects As you say right now Matt if you look at the broad range of data not just today's payroll data but for example the ISN report that we also got today The U.S. economy is growing strongly and if anything is actually accelerating in terms of the pace of expansion So I actually think the bond market is being a little bit too pessimistic in terms of the medium term outlook and how the economy will respond to higher rates And you agree that that's what 78 basis points now on the twos ten curve is too bearish to pessimistic Yes I do think that I think the flattening that we've seen I think in part at least is because of the bond market saying there's so much there and she won't be able to raise rates too far But I think there's another part of that story around why long NGO to stay so low which is essentially that we have this huge amount of excess capital excess savings trillions of dollars And that ultimately does get recycled into financial assets including treasury bonds And I think as the fed starts hiking rates as some of that excess liquidity is drawn to the excess savings decline Then I think we'll see a shift higher across the whole of the yield curve David great to get your take Thanks so much for joining us David Riley there is chief investment strategist over at blue bay asset management Now let's get over to Nathan.

"It's it's easy to kind of do this tough guy posturing as much harder to actually try to match a musician from a different country and their vocalism and the way they speak in the way the tones and rhythms. And you know that's that's real musicality that's real art. That's real worker. Whatever you wanna call it and you know those are the moments where you shines out. I think the most. I agree in which may be you know. Cut the album by third in it and it would be cool. I was still disappointed that there wasn't more of that on the record. You know we got six or seven of these like sure just distracts of avenues to air out your grievances. With so-and-so where we could have had six or seven tracks drake doing his. You know more life thing of going around the world in experiencing all these different cultures in filtering it through the lens for a better freeze and i think that would have been so much more interesting especially now in this in the world that we live in where kids are obsessed with uk culture in the us. You know there's a whole guy. There's a whole drill scene in ghana. There's there's so much going on that. I would love to see drink tap into the drake. That has a real pure music. Fan like a sixties pirate radio. Dj type music fan. Like that's what i would have wanted to see from drake over a bunch of songs talking about. I'm the best way to little cultural appropriation on this album. Drake's winning more into his role as culture of our but seriously you know he's a lot of great music converted so he's good at it. Yeah so yeah. He doesn't screw people over. At least as far as i can tell you know he puts people on and they end up either running with it or not. Jeffey has thanks so much for joining me. Aaron rodgers delivered a super bowl. And daryl i think is also making the point of. It's about everybody but aaron rodgers. And that's what he sees as part of the show game. I don't know if i agree with it though. Well let's not let's not because there was a little bit little bit crazy at the little. Let's not forget air. Rogers does have three. Mvp's right let's not forget. Rodgers did just win an mvp after they drafted his replacement. So let's not forget air. Roger still put up. I think it was what fifty two total touchdowns last year. "And you can joke about it all you want but yeah. I just don't think that's going to happen. Jackson warburg the athletic director at notre dame is one of the best in the in the country. He plays such a critical role in college football. And you talk to them. I talked to him not too long ago and he just doesn't seem that interested in being a member of that conference when in football and again he's got the best of both worlds. He plays basketball in that conference. And everything else and in football notre dame has its own network with nbc and quite. Frankly doesn't need anything else. And the other part of this whole thing when people think of these massive mergers paul is. It's not that easy to bring a school in your conference and just keep things moving. Can shed a little bit of light on you know what goes into bringing in a texas for example scheduling is a problematic thing amongst the myriad of other issues scheduling is the most difficult Because the sec for example used to be at ten went to twelve and then in two thousand and twelve it added missouri and texas. Ain't it takes years to integrate all that and it's complicated. Because if you're if you're an athlete at at alabama you would like to see all the different campuses at some point in your league but if you have sixteen schools. There's no way that's going to happen. You have to figure something out. And and i'm sure that's being worked on but it's just you the only have eight conference games right now. I'm sure that will go to nine. But it just the super-conferences don't make a lot of sense. The acc is doing that in basketball. And jordan i know you work at the acc network. But but i'm not sure on live television. You could tell me all the members of that league right now. It's convoluted because some play basketball someplace football and some don't do much of anything. Paul sign thank you so much for the insight this morning. We appreciate paul's final words. Once someone else's getting the paul finebaum show weekdays at three pm eastern on the sec network and on the espn app. Paul will talk to you later. You like that see. I gave paul the last word instead of you paul pockets. That shot it some of them. Don't do anything paul. Thanks for joining the show. Talk to you later. Come on all right. We're going to stay with college football. Here jordan's gonna make the argument. Why the sec should want to merge with the that would be good for college football. We'll let him do that next cages.
