"Giving full approval to the Pfizer Covid 19 vaccine there. Hope it will be more vaccinations. Uh, some mandated some. Not at Baxter Has that story in the rest of the global news. Yeah, that's the way it looks on the vaccination train. Some mandated some not that with holders number in the tens of millions rich. And with this Well, the question is, will there be a change? Now? Will there be a speed up? Joining us live is a Bloomberg health Care reporter? Riley Griffin. Hey, Riley. Thanks for the help here. What do we know? If anything about how this is going to affect the whole lot? Should we? Do We know anything? Well, what we do know right now is that three in 10 eligible Americans Have yet to get a single dose of a covid 19 vaccine, and that is a grand proportion. What we want to untangle is how many of these folks might still be convinced or compelled. The full approval, which has taken into account a robust review of additional safety and efficacy data and look to that as a beacon or reason. Were there after getting vaccinated? Yeah, And then how many are going to remain unvaccinated? You know, having felt more compelled towards that anti vax sentiment and we are waiting to see this unfold in real time in the clinical data. Yeah, and you So you have that How many people will say Oh, maybe this is a good idea. After all, and then And then you have the mandates that the president's talking about. Precisely. One thing we'll see going forward is employers, schools, universities feel empowered and emboldened to be able to put those mandates in place. Now to be clear. You can mandate a vaccine under an emergency use authorization designation. It is fairly unprecedented, and for that reason alone has come with Quite a bit of backlash. But now that you've got that full approval in place, the mandate looks like any other that has existed in the workplace setting or otherwise. You know, for example for school Children, we've seen vaccine mandates dating back to the 18 hundreds right now. What would seem to me to is that businesses if they've been pondering this or thought he was a good idea? Thought this was going to keep them open. You know, Without the increase in in cases, there might be legal ramifications under emergency, but this just gives them another kind of leg to stand on. Does that make sense? Exactly. It's not that they can't, um exert a requirement without that full approval. But this is just a way to avoid some more of that blowback and you side earlier today, President Biden is really encouraging. Employers of all types to take that next step and require vaccination. Okay, But if you can in 20 seconds rally, this is fighter. What about Madonna and J and J. What do we know? Moderna has filed for a full approval starting in June. This is a rolling process What's known as a biologics license application. Sources have told us that Bloomberg that they have not completed that filing. We shouldn't expect this in in days or weeks. Johnson and Johnson, meanwhile, has yet to file that LA, but we expect them to be able to do that within the year. All right, Riley. Well, great talking to your awesome Thank you. Bloomberg Health Care reporter Riley Griffin. Thank you for the help in San Francisco. I'm Ed Baxter, Brian Serpent. All right. Thanks very much. Ed 22 minutes here before the top of the hour. South Africa Study Shows J&J Vaccine Protects Against Death
"On preliminary results from a study in South Africa showing the Johnson and Johnson Covid 19 vaccine is extremely effective. Preventing death from a coronavirus infection. The study involved nearly half a million healthcare workers older than 18. It was designed to see whether a single dose of the J and J vaccine would protect health care workers from hospitalizations and death from Covid 19. Preliminary analysis of the data showed that the vaccine was between 91 95% effective in preventing deaths, although protection against hospitalizations dropped to about 65%. The vaccine appeared equally effective against the beta variant of the virus, which originally appeared in South Africa and the delta variant currently circulating in the United States.

"It was still this universal. Everyone needs to get two shots after reviewing the data, Um I really think that it should be more targeted. I think that they should consider either lessening the dose in adolescents doing a single dose. Um or maybe just targeting it to those with risk of infections such as obesity, chronic lung disease or neurological illness. I'm not quite convinced it should be the two dose Universal recommendation, and I wish the CDC would address that They have a lot of criticism right now. But as someone who has two young Children I certainly do not think that they should be wearing masks in school anymore. I think that when, um maths where our only line of defense a year ago it made sense. But that was for a very short term and the long term consequences of mask wearing in such young Children are are severe you from from the social aspect, emotional aspect to also physical aspects to Acme Sinus infections, dental issues they have if they have to what they have to take math off Children. Indoors and outdoors. Anyone who is vulnerable to the illness should absolutely be vaccinated. Um and you know, we need to be moving forward. At this point. We have gotten to that metric or we have such low amount of virus circulating and anybody who wants to be vaccinated have been vaccinated and can be vaccinated. It's time to move forward. Children are at more risk for other viral illnesses such as RSV. Influenza and others that has never warranted generalized mask wearing It's amazing that that we've had all of these other issues, Dr Nickel Sapphire, and it's only for this issue that everyone is coming out and saying Mass. Those Children and I think everyone including my listeners, and you as well have been in some public area and have seen someone freak out. Because someone else wasn't wearing a mask. I mean, I I saw a woman actually screaming and another woman because the other woman wasn't wearing a mass that her daughter had as month could died because the woman wasn't wearing a mask. I mean, people are on edge. They don't understand. But you wrote a great book called Panic Attack, and I want to Make sure my my listeners know about this and there's a great line in the book, it says. You know, follow the science is what they said. Follow our politics is what they meant and in panic attack Doctor Sapphire talks about the hypocrisy in the hysteria, which is characterized so much of the American pandemic response. So doctors Sapphire want to thank you for spending your Sunday morning with us. And as we go forward through the summer, I mean, some people are saying that they expect that you know, after the Fourth of July that their movement to try to get maybe cause us to mask up again. Do you have any feelings about that as the last question? You know, I certainly think First of all facts over fear, the more you educate yourself, the less fearful you'll become stars. Kobe two is a tricky virus. It has some long term effects. I don't like, so I would never minimize it, however, moving forward in areas such as the Northeast with high vaccine rates. There is no reason that we should ever be in a place where we were in the spring again. And in some of the Sunbelt areas with low vaccine rates. They are going to see a rise in cases. But you know the double edged sword with that is the more new cases that are there means some more people who have natural immunity, so they will, at some point get to a state of her immunity, like the rest of the country. A safer way to do it is through vaccines, but we will be getting to an overall state of herd immunity. The majority of the country is already there. But there are a few select regions that still may see a bump in cases come to fall. All right, Dr. Nicole Sapphire. She didn't need to be vaccinated. If i'm going to have somebody. Tell me. I don't need to be vaccinated. I need a pillow manufacturer or better. I'm not going with a factor. Here's the thing. If he would have met that family before and he told her do not get vaccinated and then she got covid and died. Do you think he would take responsibility for it. Nope how many countless people are now not going to get vaccinated because a mouse inventor is telling them not to and it already confirms their their their their preconceived biopsies so the hero. Smart guy say smart stuff on a on a video on what looks to be a credible website so they don't get vaccinated. They catch one of these variants invade. Die and he will never know the amount of bodies that are piling up. Because of this irresponsible shit he will never know how many people he's killing that a combination of him and a lack of trust for substance and intelligence are murdering in this country in a single dose of during vaccine along with her colleagues. She initially complained a mild dodging vomiting but quickly developed a severe headache prompting her to visit her local. Er or she retrieved a. she received treatment for migraine. Migraine's are a big symptom of this vaccine. Yeah she could have had a migraine from the vaccine and something else killed her and it just happened to be at the same time. You're talking fifty five cases of people in this age range. I mean you think of seven hundred and forty eight million people who were vaccinated in the world. You're not gonna have people with sixty million people dying every year randomly. That some aren't gonna die closely after getting the vaccine. Of course they're going to. Of course they will but blaming the vaccine for it without understanding the medicine behind. It is irresponsible. Because you're making people afraid of something that is good for them of course ended sit. Speaks to so. You're afraid of the vaccine. Let's look at the numbers of the dangers that you take on when you get behind the wheel of a car. You don't have any problems with that. The vaccine. you're you're absolutely frightened of. We could do the same thing with drinking soda. We do the same thing with drinking coffee. You could say wow. She died in a car accident. This morning ran right into a concrete wall. Probably don't know for sure sometimes. Sometimes it's a whole list of things about vegan now. So i feel like i can do that because what happens is the spike protein goes into your brain and it opens up the blood brain barrier in all sorts of crap. Come in. i'm sorry what. What's the spike protein. Goes into your brain and the blood brain barrier is then a sentence he just said into my ear holes. Yes and this one I looked up beforehand and I don't know how to address this to him because he doesn't trust fact checkers. Oh it's that you believe komo don't you. Yeah you believe the fact checkers but that hundred percent false. That is pants on fire level complete falsehood. He stated that with zero evidence. Nineteen vaccines spike. Protein is very dangerous According to goes into your Hundred percent false. It goes into your brain in opens the blood brain barrier. Yeah look look. Don't trust my word. I'm not a medical expert. I'm just a podcast her. But i'm a podcast or arguing with a mouse inventor about science. I'm telling you to go find the medical experts. I got so migraines are like huge tip off that this is vaccine related should return to the er at least one more time. There's no telling family roster again to the same ers transferred data hospital or if this is even real. We should go on to verizon and be like i got the vaccine or got the vaccine. And then steve kirsch murdered her in her sleep. Yeah because who cares because we can say whatever we want and blame whoever we want. And then i can say in the cdc refuses to investigate the serial killer. Steve kirsch really. Going on steve. Kirsch the pocket of big stab. That's a question i have and i. I'm guessing we'll get to it but he seems to be pushing for For treatments who does he invested. Wish i'd be curious. Already others are closing in a majority of Americans period have at least one shot, and that's with none under 12 eligible yet, do you think we may get to that threshold by the fourth, even if there are some Southern states that lag behind? Doesn't look like it. Unfortunately, I think the number that I saw that would require another 15 million Americans to get vaccinated between now in the July 4th holiday, and we're just not at that level. I think we're down. No. Under 500,000 vaccinations a day it's It's not because the vaccines aren't here. Let's say we do see that big surge in the southern United States this summer. Remember, as it looks like a single dose of vaccine does not do very well against this adult. A variant. Two doses does really well. So remember if let's say you decide you're going to vaccinate your adolescent Tomorrow. Your adolescent is about 5 to 6 weeks before have been fully immunized and then a week or two afterwards. When the antibodies really go up. So you don't want to wait to the middle of the epidemic surge? If that's what's happening to do it now is the time, uh, to get your adolescent vaccinated. If you're a young adult, go get.

Just many things to discuss in this whole thing do they. Are these talking heads in the mainstream aware that they look stupid reporting on. What they said was ridiculous three months ago or do they not know that kind of speaking to the same thing that now it is fact because now they set it you know i mean it's it's an interesting thing right so yeah well. There's a lot of stuff. I don't think they're accounting for first of all Even people that bought the stuff latte even like most of last year are starting to be personally affected by the arbitrary. Retarget -ness of this of these government regulations in all this stuff and it's pretty obvious it's not about a virus to a lot more people than ever in the more personally affected. People are the more likely to start looking for truth about the situation looking elsewhere and they can't control that. Yeah yeah. I'm and they want to keep these arbitrary stuff going on forever in their excu says especially in the uk. I mean they really run out of excuses here. You know before it was like oh we have to protect the jess and do this to protect the vulnerable the most of the workers vulnerable of all been vaccinated in. They still claimed the vaccine protecting everyone. But still saying they need a new lockdown on hospitalizations or lower than they've ever been and i it's ridiculous and then freedom of information requests in the uk One of the biggest in just trust like hospital systems over here said Refused disclose how many people died from covid nineteen alone As as the main cause of death in their hospital system saying it was too low to disclose and that it was under five right that is scandalous and that but that's not being covered by the media here in saying. Oh we should've lockdown sooner. There's this like whistle blower former senior adviser to boris johnson. Dominic cummings whose all over the news and there they're going to use this obviously fearmongers more about the indian variant And unjustified lockdown probably at some point at the end of june or july you know we'll see how it pans out But you know it's really only people allow it at this point but it's it's honestly just like very ridiculous The narrative and i think more and more people are gonna start looking for stuff even people that have never questioned any of the stuff in their lives. Rice starting to be like this releasing starting to make sense to me because around narratives were tripping over each other in flip-flopping is really obvious even people that don't even really pay that much attention to the stuff And they're gonna lose control in their specifically going. I think we're going to start seeing bigger freak outs when these Some of these countries like the us and the uk failed to meet their vaccination targets that they're very insistent about meeting. So i forget what the. Us is now that biden like opening up the all adults in april. So they're gonna wait a couple of months and if it's not the percentage they need it to be at for whatever reason. Why do they need. You know this amount. They say it's recruit immunity but they changed the definition of community. So it's silly so that's obviously not what it is because you have even john in professor saying at least half of. Us population has natural herd immunity. So if like another big percentages vaccinated should that be all of it now..

You're probably more able to predict tax rates of the next few years. Then someone in their forties can predict rates of the next 20 or 30 years. Does that make sense? Yes, it does. I appreciate it. I particularly appreciate because i was going to ask you similar question myself so i'll start with my question and get to those two. I was talking to a collie last week. And she has a little boy who's a toddler and Had gotten an email from the daycare stating that one of the teachers had Was positive and that the child would need to be quarantined for fourteen days. And i thought. I didn't know number one that we were quarantining. A symptomatic individuals That tightly anymore but that perhaps it's my ignorance in number two that it would be for the entire fourteen days. If there was no evidence of cova d- can you tell me a little bit about what are the current quarantining guidelines. Yeah you know what we would do. In the case of an unimmunized person as we would not quarantine them for fourteen days unless they did have symptomatic illness if they were exposed in unvaccinated. We wouldn't test them. I usually around five to seven days. In those tests were negative we would no longer Quarantine number be worried about for that for your particular colleague. If they are fully immunized and a family member is not immunized. they don't have to quarantine now. The exception might be if somebody had immune compromise in the family. That would be a different story. If the person exposed unaffected was immuno-compromised. That would be a different story. So if someone is fully vaccinated and exposed they wouldn't need to quarantine is. This is one of the great advantages of being immunized. You're you're free from that now. Obviously if you develop symptoms that would be a different. If you were immuno compromise you might not have the same level of protection. We might play the little safer there. But if you're otherwise healthy and you've got into doses of vaccine and it's been fourteen or more days or fourteen more days after a single dose of the johnson..

But like emotionally speaking, if I didn't get it, and I was supposed to get it at me, opt out and try to get something else. But local doctors say the investigation should increase confidence in the system and emphasize the J and J shot greatly benefits vulnerable communities with limited access to vaccines. These people that most benefit from a single dose vaccine from a van that could drive around from an outreach group that can get to places the other places aren't going to get it to those groups of people we really need to get to, and I think the Johnson Johnson vaccine doesn't matter. Simply facilitate vaccinating those kinds of populations. "Who are the first to be vaccinations. So point is this is all single-dose next nation pfizer and astrazeneca in the most vulnerable population. And that's the data that public health. Geez really won't because it's not done by trial is not funded by companies it's done independently on deployment of the vaccine rather than the clinical trial setting right. We were on the three measures of efficacy. Yes we got onto effectiveness ya come back to the third measure which will become increasingly important and that is something that we tried to measure. We tried very hard to measure it. And let me tell you how difficult it is. Firstly measuring a symptomatic infection. People who are well don't know they're infected but they are and we tried to do this knock trial. It's difficult because you have to persuade your volunteers to swap their nose and throat at once. Not twice but every week. The data published and there is efficacy against a symptomatic infection as well this symptomatic infection. And it's moderate efficacy of the order of fifty to sixty percent but it is reducing the risk of being infected and thereby infecting other people. So we know if we vaccinate a large proportion of the population will be not only protect them but protect other people who don't then infected by them okay but this is. This is hugely important for the long-term sort of health of the society because all of us want to scenario not just where those who vaccinated almost certainly protected but one in which we have to be worried about this damn thing and you know so talk a bit more about this like first of all in the case of someone who's vaccinated and the vaccine prevents them from getting severe disease they also by that same protection automatically not spreading the disease. What the vaccine is probably doing. Very often is stopping. Somebody who would have got severe disease getting severe disease on hospitalized and probably turn them into a mild case or a very mild case. It's probably stopping. Somebody would've had a mild infection getting symptomatic at all and maybe turning them into a symptomatic infection and it's probably taking people who would have gone as symptomatic infection and stopping them getting any arse but the city of consis if you look at the spread of the disease in populations as a whole. I mean when this fire was going crazy. The so-called honour number which is the measure of infectiousness of the virus when it was soaring well above one to whatever it was one point. Three one point four zero even if the vaccine. Let's say it was fifty percent effective against a symptomatic six and everyone's basically is is brought down in their infectious level. That means that.

CDC guidelines update: Face masks and fully-vaccinated people
"For fully vaccinated Americans, according to the government anyway, can This week, We received the first advice from the CDC on those fully vaccinated against the current of ice two weeks after the second dose or the single dose for those receiving a vaccine developed by Johnson and Johnson. Doug. Fully vaccinated persons can safely gather inside with other fully vaccinated people without wearing face masks or physical distancing, also indoor gatherings. Involving fully vaccinated people and unvaccinated people from a single household at low risk for severe covert 19 with no mask use. Presents a low risk of virus transmission occurring, according to the CDC. They said that the grand parents can see the grandchildren but they didn't tell you it's okay. Toe travel. In a plane or in a train. So if the grandchildren live locally, it's OK. But if they live far away, the CDC is so risk adverse that they did not give permission to that. And I think as more studies come in, they'll finally feel comfortable. But from my perspective, people Who are on the fence about the vaccine, because that's how we're all going to get back to our lives. When we enough of us get vaccinated, and we won't get a variant will be a herd immunity. So there needs to be more incentive for those who are on the still on the fence about getting the vaccine given 60. Seconds on what you would like to see what do you advise this? Tell people would you think they should do? I would have liked some comment. On the current state on who can safely travel and that and there was no comment on that from the CDC. They didn't say it's not safe for anyone to travel. They didn't say it was safe for a certain subgroups to travel. I don't know the data they have. They've got the state of the art data. There's some public data from Israel about safety and it's looking like it's the vaccines are really good, but I think the CDC wanted Bigger populations more than one study and unfortunately, the CDC didn't even comment about. I wanted to comment about it. So there's hope among those on the fence that if they get the vaccine, it'll be able to change their lifestyle to the better and they'll be able to doom or and get back to work. Already, people are changing the airlines or Going back to full service. People are booking hotels travel at least domestically, Esso under the circumstances, you know you've got the reality is people are going to do or whether the CDC, that's it. You know, you gotta use some common sense can't be all the government, the government, the government. As we acknowledge that this time last year we started a year of loss and disruption. "single dose" Discussed on Newsradio 600 KOGO
"Likely. What happened is he was exposed before the vaccine even entered his arm. And so it was just a race and his immune system was unable to protect him from that infection. So will that first dose of the vaccine, though, assist him in fighting the coronavirus that he is currently infected with Yeah, that remains to be seen. You know, Like I said, it's kind of an arms race, and it probably will help a little bit, but but really the infection establishing itself that can occur before the vaccine really starts to give him some protection. There is one additional treatment that is available, which is kind of a passive immunity, we think, which is that monoclonal antibody infusion that might help in this early period. So the vaccine requires to get these two shots. Weeks apart. Are how much protection do you have after the first inoculation? Is it like a 50 50 thing or doesn't go like that? Yeah, that's really hard to say. These very large vaccine trials that you've heard about with 30 or 44,000. People in them really had they weren't designed to measure the effectiveness of a single dose. He did a little bit of analysis just to see how many people got infected after the first dose. And Yeah, you're right. Maybe 50% protection after that, first one, but really again, they weren't designed to look at that. So there's a There's a fierce debate going on right now to whether we should just give everybody a single dose. And then on, then go back for the second dose. That's what they're doing in the UK, but really, to get to that 95% that we're looking for. You really do need those two doses, But But now they're talking about people under 50 55 getting half of a dose. Well, yeah, to try to maximize things. The FDA approved things to be used in a certain way, and I don't think we're really in a position to start bending the rules way. Approve these vaccines in record time. I think we should use them the way that they're authorized in order to get the most protection. So you know, we get a flu shot every year. That flu shot is is tailored to what they believed. You know what is anticipated to become the most prevalent viruses are we gonna have to do that with the covert backs? Because take a look at the new strains of the virus that don't seem to be more deadly. But they do seem to be easier to catch. And so you know, is that something that we have to take into consideration? That's right. I think all eyes are on this new strain right now, and so far all we know about it is that it is more contagious. It appears to still be. The vaccine appears to still be effective against this new strain. And part of the reason is that the vaccines contain this whole like protein, and it's really just a tiny little bit of it. That's mutated. So far so good stars cov to the virus that causes covert. 19 doesn't appear to mutate as much or as fast as other viruses, which is a good time, but only time will tell. You know, there's a lot of people looking at this very carefully. So we don't know if if it could be a yearly thing, or if you get inoculated when you're a child for measles, mumps, you know, you only need one vaccine. We don't know if this will be one vaccine or maybe. Ah, year, two years, five years down the line, we might need another. Yeah, we don't know For sure. The big the big question out there is how long immunity will last and we really can't predict the future. But we only have you no less than a year of data of following even natural infections versus the vaccine to see how long the immunity left. But I have to say so far so good. There's been a lot of analyses of people that got the natural infection that got the virus itself. And after 6 to 9 months, their immune system protection still looks pretty strong. Other Corona viruses that cause common cold. However, it looks like about a year to year and a half protection again. Only time will tell. There's a lot of people looking at what's happening with the immune system response. Well, you know, it seems like this story changes every day.
