The Filmmakers Dilemma Dark Skin Tones
"April of little some interesting or different today for the this week in photo discussion among with my friend. Chris Fenwick If you have anything to do with final cut pro, you know this guy he he's one of those people that knows final cut pro and editing in general from the inside out backwards and forwards and all that and he's We'll get into that but Chris reached out to me a couple of the about a week or so ago and pose a really interesting question us. He said, you know what? How do you? How do you color ballots for darker skin tones? He was having problems with that and this was this was on the heels of the whole Simone biles controversy with Anti Liebowitz and. All that back and forth of they should hired a black photographer to shoot her or should the photographer shot heard? No or Annie's people? Should they have known how to process and color correct for blacks hint so anyway. So we decided to jump on and have this conversation just talk like you know two people that like this stuff and see if there's a solution or maybe there is no. Solution but Chris, which is these elite editor Ed slice editorial and I'll put the links to all of his stuff in the show notes and the the description for this episode on Youtube but follow him over there. But check out this discussion is pretty. It's pretty interesting. We'll be pretty interesting from the standpoint of just what's wet in the in the real world of color correcting for other humans. We go. Here we go starting to. All right. Chris. Renwick. Welcome to this week in photo man how you doing. Mr Johnson I'm doing well. Yes it's good. The I'm doing really good. You know what we were talking before we started recording. and. I got I. got a page just from chatting just. Before recording. Yeah Yeah where you do your hands. Okay. But always you know you're you're a wealth of information. You're humble about it. Obviously, which is why you get invited to speak at conferences and all this other stuff, and you'd probably have more work than you can deal with. But let's I want to segue into that stuff that that I talked about in the teas color balancing for darker skin tones, Black People Brown people, etc. But before we do that, tell us a little bit about Chris Renwick in slice editorial. In the world and how are you helping keep spinning? I don't think I help keep spinning all. Right. Now. That's that's that's frightening I I'm an editor and I tell people this all the time and they say Fascinating. What are you edit? I added a bunch of stuff you'd never want to watch. It's it's not that it's not that exciting. In the corporate communications corporate branding space. There is tons of work to do most people realize that whether it's photography or video or editorial like I do But frankly most of the stuff I work on, you'd Never WanNa Watch. It's not that exciting. It's a matter of fact I think the people that I make it for you know they're struggling to get their employees to had chip you know but but but the bottom line is it's a living and I've always said that to satisfy your own creative you know thing that you have to do. You're better off. I mean it's good that I don't rely on my job to do that and I'll. I'll tell you. That if you. If you try to be, you know to exude your best you know a Steven Spielberg George. Lucas. When you're doing my job, you're going to be a pain. Because you're GonNa have all these great ideas. I'm not saying the not good ideas, but they're not right for the project that you're working. And so You're better off. You're always better off serving the project and. Most of the stuff that I do, it's ahead he's talking and might be a graphic over shoulder that. Explains what he's talking about but I don't need seven different angles in tight close ups intention like no I don't need that and so if you WanNa do that you should totally do that. But doing on something you're producing and not that you're trying to get paid for. And It's it's just kind of a pet peeve of mine. You know you just keep keep your creative thing to to wear. It's a being asked for and I turned stuff out. That's what we do. It's not not really exciting but like I said, raise the Bill Corp video pays the bills you know keeps keeps keeps the Earth Spin and keeps spinning right there. That's absolutely absolutely and I'll tell you three a four days after Governor Newsom shut down the state of California were based. we were in production. and. We were in production because. On I kind of reminded everybody that we work with especially in the office that our core competency. is to. Help people disseminate information. That's what we do. We help people communicate, and even during a pandemic people have to communicate, and so we came up with some workflow ways to do that and I've talked about that on other shows maybe to talk about it here but it's not what we really came to talk about. But but we were I was working on Tuesday. I delivered my first client video before the week was up

One evening smelling wrote that she wanted to join the national. Gymnastics team. Coach by Marta Karoly. Marta had trained many Olympians in the past including Nadia Ichi. verities. The score that we said Nadia was the first gymnast to receive the score of a perfect ten at the Olympics. The perfect ten score system is no longer in place. Instead the Olympics measure a gymnast's score based on content difficulty an execution. This means it's possible to score higher or lower than ten. If Simone was going to try and make it to the Olympics, she knew ticket helper. Coach. Aime sent March video of Simone's gymnastics routine. After seeing it. March invited Simone to her developmental camp in Huntsville Alabama. Simone couldn't believe it. She packed her bags full of Leotards and then drove with coach. Aime, it's Alabama. Simone was thrilled to attend marches camp alongside many other potential Olympians. But. It was hard work. Simone train from eight in the morning until seven at night with just a three hour. Break in between. When the girls practiced and perfected their gymnastics skills. Marty would walk around and observe the gymnasts. I'd like to see her. Perform an honor coach. Marta told coach aime. An ominous vote was a complicated maneuver that was favored in the Olympics for its difficulty. It required a running start into a back handspring and then two and a half twists. Who Jamie knew that Simone should work on her scores for difficulty. This included trying on Arvo. Mon wasn't eager to try it. The last thing she wanted was to injure herself now. She told coach Shammy. I won't do it. Martin notice defiance in Simone's tone. In order to be a great gymnasts Martin new gyms had to be able to listen and learn from her coach. When it was time to make selections for the junior national team. MARTA DID NOT PICK SIMONE Simone was come with despair by this rejection. How could Martin not pick her? You need to learn how to take direction from your coaches. Marta told Simone. Over the next year Simone listen to coach Amy's direction and worked hard at her arm-in-arm volt. She was motivated to work harder than ever. She knew she could perfect executions and she was determined to prove it. And two thousand twelve, when Simone was fifteen, it was time for Marta to consider selections for the US junior national team. Simone performed on our volt. She spent the previous year practicing it over and over. And she nailed it. When it came time to pick her twenty twelve team. Martha announced she was only choosing six girls this year. Simone held her breath. She'd work so hard on her. Ahmir volt among other complicated flips to attempt to improve her difficulty score. She'd even come in first place at several competitions. Simone wanted this more than anything. Soames poems were sweating. And then finally. Simone's name was called. After making Marcus team Simone had a new feeling of excitement in her belly. She had another dream a big dream. She wanted to be a twenty sixteen Olympian. But Soon Simone encountered a new struggle. She was having trouble focusing in school. When she was at home, she couldn't Complete Simple Chore Without Becoming Distracted. Simone's parents took her to the doctor who diagnosed her with attention, deficit, hyperactivity, disorder, or Adhd. Simone was crushed. She didn't want medication to hinder her in the gym, but her parents and coach aime promised it would help. Sloan's ADHD medication did improve her focus, but she soon began slacking off at gymnastics practice. When it came time to perform her floor routine at the twenty, thirteen secret US classic. She flip through the air. Only to pitch forward and land on her knees. Oh Simone was so embarrassed. Worse, the fall caused Simone to hurt her ankle coach aime saw simone limping and pulled from the meat. We know you can do better. Martin told Simone. It's important to be prepared both physically and mentally. Sonata was ashamed disappointed. She'd Letdown Marta and amy. She vowed to practice harder than ever before. She wouldn't let them down at nationals. Luckily Simone's ankle wasn't critical, but her parents thought it would be beneficial for her to see a sports psychologist named Robert Andrews to help her work through her mental blocks. I'm under a lot of pressure. Simone told him. Were you having fun when you're performing before you got hurt Robert Asser. Simone thought about it. No I was worried I wouldn't live up to people's expectations. Then Robert gave her an important piece of advice. Then go out there and make it fun again. Taking this advice with her. Simone won her first world championship title later that year. When Simone was eighteen, she was bursting with excitement at the thought of going to college. She toured the University of California in Los Angeles. She loved the grassy fields, the enormous classrooms and the opportunities that awaited her there. This was where she belonged. She was sure of it. I'm going to UCLA shutdowns to her family. But Simone was faced with yet another life altering decision. Gymnasts were not allowed to commit and compete in college if they had plans to go pro and accept sponsorships from brands. Simone to choose between UCLA and the possibility of going into the Olympics. It's not fair. She told her mom. She Thought College would be her first opportunity to live a normal life. More than that Simone knew that most female gymnasts peak in their teens while males peak around age twenty two. That also wasn't fair. Men could go to college, and then after have a professional gymnastics career. Simone would be nineteen at the time the two thousand Sixteen Olympics. If, you chose college. Would it be too late for her to go to the twenty? Twenty Olympics. We can tell you what we think, but we can't tell you what to do. Her Mom said. Simone cried. She took a long time thinking at over. Deep down. She knew her priority was making it to the Olympics. Simone decided to continue her path to becoming professional gymnast. She was happy to find an online university. That would work with her schedule..

"I'm going. GonNa take us to two thousand sixteen. That's when USA gymnastics team Dr Larry. Nassar was arrested on charges of sexual abuse, and that eventually led to a sentencing hearing where hundreds of athletes spoke out against him you counts of abuse spanned decades, and Nassar is now in prison for those offenses, but many of those crimes happened at the Corollas ranch, and in many people's minds, Bela and Marta Karolyi have not been held fully accountable so for those who aren't familiar. Can you explain the work relationship between the Corollas and Larry Nassar Bowl? When Larry Nassar I started working for USA gymnastics. They were personal coaches, so he became the national team medical coordinator in one, thousand, nine, hundred, six, right around the Atlanta Olympics everyone remembers the magnificent seven and Kerri strug Dominique Moceanu in that team. And so in two thousand one Marta Karolyi became the national team coordinator, and she oversaw the program for the next fifteen years, and throughout that time Larry continued to be the national t medical coordinator for the Women's program. which meant he was at international meets? He was big meets. He was at the training camps at the ranch, and so Larry continued to volunteer with the program until two thousand fifteen when he. Posted on facebook that he was retiring. And we know now that Nassar's retirement with something USA. Gymnastics encouraged actually as they'd become aware of allegations against him. Meanwhile Simone biles was off training for the Rio Olympics. Ready face of US gymnastics this total star. She didn't know about anything hidden behind Nassar's retirement. So at that point byles had sixteen medals from world. Championship meets eleven of them gold. What was the dynamic between Simone and Marta Karolyi in the years leading up to the two thousand Sixteen Olympics? You know her relationship with Marta was one of necessity. Marta was the boss. She was the national team. Coordinator and Simone was gymnasts on her team now. Amy said something to us Amy Bormann was her coach from age eight until the twenty sixth Olympics that she felt like Marta had this ability Martin. Stay much. She just you know the march stare. Everyone knows the mar to stare. But. She had this ability just by her presence and her demanding of perfection to get that last one half of one percent out of the gymnasts that sometimes. Amy Felt like she couldn't get. I mean look before Simone biles. The conversation was could a gymnast ever hold a world title and Olympic title at the same time? It's only been done once very long time ago. Competing in two Olympics winning back. Tobacco battles everything she's doing seemed impossible. And she has defied all of that. Might be her very last world championships, and if it is, we have just had the honor of watching. History. Again for some Mon.. Metal covered twenty four. Nobody has ever had twenty four medals at the world championships. Could she have done all of that with the different national team coordinator? I, think the answer to that is yes. But I think that she wouldn't deny that. Marta curly had some influence over her career. Mortar tires and twenty sixteen right after the Rio Olympics? What were things like between the two of them when she stepped away? Nothing I mean. We've had gymnasts from the beginning of the Corollas career till now when they are done with you, they are done with you i. mean there was no good goodbye. They got on a plane and flew home before the Olympics were over I mean that was very typical, and so you know the gymnasts on that twenty sixteen team there has been no conversation. A month after Simone in the, US won gold at Twenty Sixteen Olympics. The Napoli's star puts out there I report. Of Larry Nassar's abuse in many more reports testimony. But as of today, more than five hundred women and girls have said they were abused by Nasser. So did Simone initially react to the news. Publicly she didn't. She was silent. You know in speaking with those around her. Like many of the gymnasts when their coaches parents asked you, she sort of shut down and. Didn't WanNa talk about it and said No. Amy told us that she kept no. No, that wasn't me that.

"Today, the heavy metals podcast reporter Elissa Roan tells the story of how Simone Biles succeeded and suffered under Marta Corolla. And the new course, vile set in elite gymnastics. I'm Pablo Tori. It's Tuesday July twenty first. This is ESPN. You did something big. You just birth eight season of thirty for thirty podcasts into the world so. I guess first off. How does all that fuel? It's funny. I use that term because I. Keep Joking with my friends and family that I'm going to ask for like podcast maternity leave. Elissa Roenick is senior writer for ESPN. She just released the seven part thirty for thirty podcasts series titled Heavy Metals inside the Corolla gymnastics empire. Yeah, it's a nice feeling for Bonnie and me and everyone. We worked with at thirty for thirty to know that it's out and people are listening to it. So if you had to sum it off in a sentence or two. WHAT THE PROJECTS ABOUT! How do you do that? Well? The easy sentence that it's about the forty year history of Bela and Marta Karolyi and US impacted influence on USA gymnastics. Karoly and his life. Marta are the anchors of the powerhouse USA gymnastics team. They oversee this the US Olympic training center on their ranch in Texas, but it is also about. Power. Control Systematic dysfunction at the Olympic sport level. And it is about a group of athletes, finding their voices, using their voices and speaking out in the hopes of changing the culture of their own sports. So I WANNA talk to you today about how that larger story, how it intersects with the biggest name in gymnastics right now, and that's got to be I mean you could say a with me. Simone biles byles too with second. All the hormone byles two time world all around champion. You say that whenever you do interviews about anything surrounding the sport, no matter what aspect of Her name always comes up. You know I would argue. She's one of the biggest athletes in sports, not just in gymnastics and one of the most powerful voices. In Sport Artists Ball in the world. Some of the very first interviews I did. When you would you know we come back? You transcribe with them and started realizing you know I haven't asked a single person. Anything about Simone and I have so much tape on Simone Biles, and it wasn't because we were having conversations about who's the most talented gymnasts in the country right now, but it was because we were getting into conversations about the culture of the sport, the changing culture of the sport is it possible to win a different way? Is it possible to to coach gymnasts and a healthy positive manner, and for them to be great? Is it possible for gymnasts to live and even remotely quote Unquote Normal, life and still make it to that elite level. Is it possible for the culture of. That has completely dominated sport to change, and her name would be brought up every time as an answer, and that answer was yes, because look at Simone biles and. We started realizing there was this sort of other story that was emerging that Simone biles the greatest gymnasts in the world. Arguably the greatest gymnasts of all time is actually. There's a living breathing still competing example of a better way to do it. With all those quotes you kind of accidentally, let it I guess on Simone. While reporting on the Corollas UN Bonnie Ford wrote this piece with the headline. How Simone biles found her voice and changed gymnastics culture, so to understand how simone changed it. We kinda have to understand what the culture has been as created a controlled by the Karoly. So can you remind us what cemented? The Corollas place as these domineering leaders of US gymnasts. Gold Medal. Winning without question, they have just one another world title. That makes four straight one by the United States. Bala back in the day was the was the face of of the duo because I strongly feel for coach. First of all, you have to be teacher. You have to be forms look. You have to have a good knowledgeable. And for us, this cues Uber Doing. He loves ATTENTION IF VELCRO HE lives for anything and his motivated by anything. It's attention and fame. Corroded. Marta was always the quiet one, but we've come to understand. She was motivated by control and power. The mind of the gymnast. It's very clear when they come here. They come for one single reason to focus on the training. Around two thousand eight I would say was sort of peak. Both of those Bella is really not part of the overseeing the actual team, but he's in Beijing at the Olympics, he is the face of NBC. He is anyone who wants an interview there. You're being pointed Sabella Karoly. He's still the face of the sport, even though he's not coaching, anyone really has no say over the program so far away. The best in the world that that is even frightening to be. Too Good. And Marta has the you know the all around gold medalist. NASTYA Lucan the the all around silver medalist in Shawn Johnson. Carly Patterson, and won the gold medal in two thousand four. You must strive for perfection, and you never can be thinking that I climb to the top of the month and I can not fall off. And once she started overseeing these programs that were winning in a way that the United States had been inconsistently. She had unchecked power. The not looking at the names really looking at one the can do. How strong overpass! If is whole discipline the person these? You know when you think about the culture of silence in the culture of training on injuries, not speaking up, not telling someone you're injured or Hungrier or tired. All that played into the fact that if you spoke up about those things, Marta had a conveyor belt of incredible gymnasts waiting to take your place and so that bread athletes who competed her and when I say heard I'm talking about competing on broken bones, it bread, eating disorders, and it also brought a silence of never speaking up about anything that you felt was wrong in the fear that you would be replaced, and so that's the culture and right around that time as win Simone Biles Came into the program as a young gymnasts, and that's the world she was walking into. I mean that's a world that makes the. NFL looked like daycare based on. That description was simone's relationship to these people. When did you first enter into the Karoly or So. We have a a story in oral history that her first coach. Aime boreman tells. That you know Simone started gymnastics a little quote unquote last. Night Amy Sorta coaching her when she was eight and saw some just incredible potential and. Skill and power, and so when she was thirteen, she was invited to some developmental camps at the ranch and..

Better athletic and auditor. They were not photographed together for about one week. However, he turned up in Portugal He was in an instagram that has since been deleted, but it was screen shot and preserved on lady gossip. Thank you lane to gossip. He's with yawns. Ameet I think it's like you say his name who is a model and photographer. They were in Portugal together. For some kind of shoot looks like onto our miss made been in the shoot on clear my main question how to? GET INTO EUROPE AMERICANS I thought were banned I. Think this is post announcement that Americans can't go. I think so. The the ban went into effect on July first. Is that correct? I believe so yeah, okay, so my question was. After July fourth like one hundred percent I know, but. Did he travel before July I. I don't know like. Maybe there's some sort of. You know where he was seen in L. A. in the month of July all right then I. Don't know then you know, believe it or not I think celebrities get different treatment than the rest of us so impera new. I'd love to go to Europe. And next unless there's anything else you'd like to add to that one I. Don't want to deprive you of your ANA and Ben Update. No, just that I hope everyone continues to take all like local regulations and travel regulations and health regulation seriously for your health, and for the health and safety of others. Thank you on that note, Chris, Evans and Lily James Again seen together and England. There are some photographs of them having icecream together at a park man. Again they're conspicuously like the people of which their Paparazzi photos. It was conspicuously and suspiciously soon after the hotel photos that you and I discussed with great elation, and you know I partially wanted to bring this up because I. It's just like sometimes we celebrity consumers or fickle, and I went from just being like that looks so great good for them to being like. I don't believe this in the span of it. All it took was one set of photos, so maybe and perhaps that should be some self examination and my part, and also maybe it has something to do with that I'm so. Not used to any celebrity content at this point that I'm just like. How can you be out in two places within twenty four hours? Like at all, and that doesn't make sense to me I don't understand so. I'm suspicious of it. Maybe that's ungenerous of May. I'm with you. I think you know. Once who knows two times? Is this. Is this a coincidence? I think we're a little quicker to be skeptical. Giving virus everything we're just like. I don't know about that yet and again I think part of the first photos were they were going and separate entrances. It kind of looked like they were trying to evade Paparazzi which. Again. Is there right and I'm aware that we're like on some ethically dubious. You know grounds here, but it seems like it was something that was just starting and then the next day. They're like cool here. We Are I. Don't know I don't know what to make of it. It did look like you know they were outside and they weren't socially distance, but I think if you're if you're. It seemed like they were taking things they were taking seriously yeah I agree with that, so I'll handle that again. That I have to notes. One of people who don't want reporter graft aren't photographed. It's very clear we've learned that. As a celebrity watchers number two. The other problem with this is the Paparazzi. Ecosystem has been significantly disrupted. It's they're not just like out and about the Paparazzi photos in the way they used to be so i. don't know I got. We've got questioned all. We're saying yeah. Related I wanted to mention. And it's day one so I'm going to say this with as much with as little judgment as I. Can say. About anything to be quite honest. To Chris Evans. long-threatened political website launched today okay I. Don't know if you caught this. It's called a starting point. And as best I can tell. It is a place. He is leveraging he and his partners or kind of leveraging their recognition, their their fame in order to get a politicians to participate and offer like quick assessments of various policy issues, and then which you know, it's important to hear from your elected officials. And then, but there they're often positioned as like one person from the right and one person from the left on an issue, and there's just a real both sides ing elements chew the entire project. He a bit uncomfortable. I think that. Conversation and debate is important, but it's real kind of like on the one hand on the other hand and I think we've learned that there are not two sides to a lot of important issues in America and it's like the both sides combined with the Captain America, and so I'm GonNa. Like make politics quote civil again. I don't know it's not what I need from my celebrity political involvement. I Shan't be reading that. Yeah, that's that's where I am. That's where I am as well. You know I'm marking it as. We were talking about. Chris Evans and I think we will continue to talk a bit about how celebrities get involved in the political sphere in the next few months and this.
Simone Biles Makes 'Vogue' Cover Debut
"Move on. Let's talk next. About Simone biles on the cover of Vogue. this is the August issue I believe crowd, yes, correct, and it was timed up for the Olympics which did not happen as you probably are not going to happen as you're likely aware. Yes, I wanted to talk to you about this just for a couple reasons. I was like pretty moved by the story and I just WanNa say so that their profile was written by Abby Aguirre. Who I believe is the same writer who the world, and also we gave a bit of a hard time to you. Because Riana surprised her with her interview a few months back, and we weren't super prepared for. She wasn't super prepared for it, and there was a little pushback there I she was prepared for this and I. This is A. I found like a moving piece. And some of it is the timing there. The reporting begins in March, and it is before lockdown has started for covid nineteen, and before the Olympics have been canceled, and so she's watching Simone biles. Who is the greatest gymnast of all time like? Asked process the this like major personal setback that Olympics what she's been training for. You know Simone biles twenty three years old, and which is on the older side for gymnasts, which is mad Jim. That brass unforgiving. An unforgiving sport in a lot of ways and so having the Olympics post be postponed a year. In addition to you know the training schedule because it her level. There's a level of optimization that we can't even begin to understand but. That has serious consequences for her and her ability to compete, so she's wrestling with all of that. And on top of that if I If you've been following gymnastics at all, then you are aware of just the absolutely horrific crimes committed by Larry Nassar, the former USA gymnastics doctor, who is now serving up to one hundred seventy five years for the sexual abuse, gymnasts and Simone. BYLES has spoken out about being survivor of his abuse and continues to be just a incredibly outspoken. Advocate she isn't an advocate, but she is really trying to hold USA gymnastics accountable, because it is obviously like a much larger problem in organization, and she is doing that while at the same time trying to be the world's top gymnasts. Yeah, it's like so unfair that she has to hold them accountable while also being the best like, can't she just be the best i? It's like it's like yeah, and there is and the. The piece does a great job of putting about all in context, but there is one line which is Simone. Biles is explaining her reaction to the postponement of the Olympics, and she talks about it for all of the athletic and physical and reasons that I just described, but she also goes another year of dealing with USA gymnastics I don't know if I can do it, and because of everything that she's been through and I. was really moved by that and by the whole story, and I mean she's obviously just inspirational and tremendous success. So I. Recommend reading it I think it is exciting that she is on the cover of vogue, because vogue as we know has historically I'm not been representative especially of. A black people and it's pages, and certainly behind the pages as well and so it's great to see on the cover. There has been kind of a side conversation about the photographs. Were taken by any bits and quite frankly are just not great. They are not the standard that they should be for someone on the cover of Ogan ally. The problem is because it does not appear that they are. Let for a black woman they. Don't have the technology and this is a continuing. This has been a long problem in TV and movies, which is just that? Many of the photographers and camera, people and lighting technicians just have not learned how to light for people of Color. And? It's a long term problem, but I think. You know if you're gonNA put smiles on. The cover faded out. Learn like earn it doesn't it doesn't matter just learn how to do figure something out and. You know there's there's another question of. Should any of yeah as I say like? The photographer look I understand she's famous, and like maybe in some ways that gives the story some attention that maybe it wouldn't get but like how about putting some literally putting Simone biles in the best possible. Yes, exactly exactly and if you're going to have an elite, do it then. Make sure. She learned how to do it.

"Zeh High Dom Dom wow I stayed here in double to Druze for the statement that the clearly are responsible for having put out and it is starting to back it's very This a little bit was posted by Bryan Curtis because the whole thing about the nationals lead up to the world series was that the nationals were the only thing br bringing Giordano barbecue at the beginning of the season I feel like this comes up every year when they're in the playoffs now it's just a it's just a bigger deal because they're in the world series they don't get the facetime because they're just not the powerful people sitting near the dugout four tickets right right it is weird though that that's not the story because ordinarily that's the story that would be a better story media likes to tell you know in this case it's first world series for them like they didn't have a baseball team for generations and like it's not a new story but it definitely seems more interesting to me than like Luke Russell it's interesting journey to bringing his mom to a baseball game like who is that interesting right right because I assumed rusted would be there like a whole road himself I've seen them wizards games the third dog bites man Shit in the world like would you believe that NBC's Chuck Todd himself attended fancy function in DC like the fuck out of here of course this game it's like every game is like a fucking Al Smith charity dinner like all the senators get together and like they get drunk and they make fun of each other because all in it together to fuck us right what about the seventy five year old who was heartbroken when the senators left forty fifty years ago whatever it was easy story there's a lot of it's like yeah but I but within the nationals themselves they are to my mind extremely likeable team I love Soda I love Ringtone the Astros this is what's challenging about it both teams kick ass they ask are a perfect baseball team and the nats have for whatever the process that got I'm they're like just absolutely seamless and brilliantly put together and the nets are great like in terms of them winning a game I'm happy that that happened I wouldn't rule out them winning playing like we discussed last week like real team of destiny shit that's always cool and likable players are super-duper likable they played they played small but all to beat the Astros last night and they didn't do it well and they still want you remember it was the was the first of the second inning trae Turner it was the first inning tracer got on base Stolz second that's small ball right there and meet and tried to burn them over to third but pop the fucking Moron the whole the whole thing was wasted but they still want anyway so it was great can't be something in the first inning of a world series game in my opinion now it said aw please like whatever the fuck neo reactionary fans like Pat Buchanan's like standing up and cheering at the thought of it from his seat in the fifth round whatever let's break and come back and talk about the NFL nine we're back we're back to talk about the NFL dom you can knock ask anymore questions you're off the hook are you so really we're talking hockey how do you create a bunch of NFL trades that the past week Joe Ramsey was the big one the raiders the Raiders Trade Gary and Conley to the Texans because Jon Gruden said he wanted more youth on the team you're headed they drafted Conley two years ago attack Emmanuel Sanders was also traded away by the Broncos and it seems to me and you can correct me Hamamatsu favorites Patriots needed more offensive arches and particularly in the case of the Falcons and the broncos were to Shitty teams trading away players they probably could've used so my question to you dumb is is this a is this a conflagration of fire sales are there fire sales going on strike be concerned Yes yes and no you know I think teams are seeing that they can get value for these guys while he still can be you know by bailing on the season but at the same time I don't think you're GonNa see the Falcons trading everyone you know in the weeks ahead they might make another deal as the the deadline approaches but I don't think they're gonNA dump everyone do they they've got the problem the falcons have the they're stuck with a lot of big contracts they signed a lot of their guys thinking that now was the time kind of thing so we're gonNA have a hard time on loading a lot of that so I don't think you're GonNa see a baseball style fire sale as the deadline approaches it's the matter with them the falcons yeah they just can't playing defense I mean bizarre they've still score points often not every game but like is that they just are like Tuck with aging expensive personnel there it's not even aging they just kind of can't figure out how to do it they ironically they really kind of fell apart after Kyle Shanahan left on the offense running the offense and he's doing a great job in San Francisco but they haven't been the same team since two thousand eight to three they get back to the playoffs the next year but they've really not been able to figure anything out of that defense is just a disaster I wouldn't have expected to happen without a hangover but like man it's just really been bizarre they also they lost Kevin Kevin Coleman to free agency to the niners this off season they lost on Day freemen also believed to an injury and they lost Ito Smith tune injury last week so all of a sudden you know this was the team that fucked up employed twenty three lead because they forgot to run the ball in the second half he had all the horses they needed to do so oh and now they're out of horses when when when they fired Steve Sarkisian and might have had the wherewithal to actually run the football now they can't because I don't have it right in last year defense was destroyed by injuries this year that's not the case they just can't play and Dan Quinn now the play caller you know he he's he's they got rid of all they got rid of all of their coordinators for this year with wind taking over the Defence Alabel check and it's not working so new strikes me as particularly inquisition for the Patriots because he's always been effective player yeah and they know how to make effective players more effective yep and play them and play with me there's a lot of like seventy yard touchdown completions that start off basically unlike some weird misdirection thing first career perfect one fifty eight point three bucks seven of eight attempts for two hundred thirty three yards and four touchdowns that's task touchdowns Brady seriously option I don't think that Belgium trusts jared stood in the way that he might Muhammad Sununu speaking of which dom anyone the AFC Who can be the Patriots No no let it play out a little bit more may no I I I was ready to believe in the chiefs until the last few weeks soon before Mahomes is injury I think there'd defenses to vulnerable The the colts the colts have if they had luck because they've got a really completely they were gonna they would they would have been a legit threat and they're still very good I'm just not sold yet onto Kober set being scout the stats he's been that year and they've and they've got a very very complete team so they might be the one who can do it I just not ready to to say that they vivid team that's going to do it I think the Texans are frauds they're not good enough and you know the the Ravens are okay when the Ravens are good they look in raising yet they still a very defensive I think their defense is still deeply flawed to it's weird to think that beating the pants off a stoops it just a a jets team with a ton of problems it'd be like sort of the you know switch flipping moment for the Patriots to me like I didn't think the jets are going to win that game a couple of the day they had a shot me too and legit thought they had a shot and they got dominated so badly that like it really at this point like I haven't seen the Patriots break a sweat in in seven weeks yeah I mean it schedules going to get a little harder weeks ahead they had to play the ravens they have to play they have to play the chief yes they have to play the bills again who are the only team gave them a decent game they play the cowboys they add for the cowboys who I think are still fraud even though they beat the shit out of the the eagles on Sunday night for aw oh by the way speaking of which I wanted to ask you about the NFC dom because before this season I think a lot of people had the eagles pegged as the best team in that conference they're not no so I see a gang of flack I say three or four teams I see New Orleans Seattle Lean Bang and San Francisco and I think that's kind of it does I'd agree with that I I I still put like I still maybe put the cowboys on that list to send you're GonNa win the NFC but I think they're I I still think they're pretty good I I like their defense having awesome injuries upfront for that jet game last week and I think that affected them I don't know what happened to Kelly Moore's play calling in that jet game but I you know I I think that's pretty good I put them on that list with those other teams but I think those other teams as the before mentioned there are clearly the clash of the NFC right now but who's the best of those four is at the packers because I think it probably it could be you know and I I I think the niners are really good too because of that that deep but I you know the I think it comes down onto Aaron Rodgers against Jimmy G. Playoffs I'm going with Aaron Rodgers at this point but the packers de looks really good you know those free agent acquisitions they got they added at linebacker have really helped and rodgers playing really well the niners are to their D has been phenomenal and that offense is not doing anything for them yet I mean it's so how much more you can expect from Jimmy Garoppolo because I you know whatever like anyone else that's watched him at all I have no idea how good he actually is like I think he's been he the best non George kittle offensive weapon he's ever played with their but they have pretty low bar yeah I mean their defense has been carrying them an but that that can work that has been really really good yeah yeah it's it would be juicy for them to play the Patriots in the Super Bowl because you just on paper it would have the whole storyline ooh Jimmy Garoppolo against Tom Brady the guy kicked him out and all and and then the Patriots win seventy two nothing and it would it'd be blunder ship at this level of of troll excellence now we're like yeah there would be super the same way that it seemed like they you know the idea of them the rams and like a super bowl it's gonna be like two high powered offense they're getting shut Gronk to help seal it I mean they they just always adapt and find a way to win and it's every little angle they play I think we talked about this last week I think they will probably lose a game in the regular season it may happen but they sure look like they're going to win the Super Bowl again yeah this is quite an achievement that.

O. L. L. Y. Underscore H. O. L. L. basically I don't know how to pronounce Holly Hall wrote about how that basically like checks every box fuck an apology like where it's like you use if like you don't actually apologize at any point and then you throw some money at charity at the end to be like will you know like one thing that definitely shows you how serious we are about this thing that we fucking lied about and gloated about is that we've donated three hundred thousand dollars which we definitely have like as assault of this embarrassing thing that happened to us well that's also a like a how dare you move like Oh yeah excuse me we donate to charity anybody is the an expert on this space it's earth's yeah as a husband of wife your ended that you would even yeah I mean also it was the second it was their second statement issued by talent in one issued by the Astros and then be issued their own shitty but it was after the astros trip denied that that ever happened and L. The other reporters there including our own former deadspin writer hit a kaiser was there to say no that happened yeah yeah I mean that's that's what's so bizarre about l. b. now wanting to do an investigation in the baseball writers acquiescing to to to take part in it and the story spoke for itself the confirmation from the the the reporters who were there have already broadcast to the world what happened what more needs to be investigated feels very NFL to me. the especially the idea of being like we're GonNa get our best investigators on this we're taking this really seriously and then you have to imagine the fucking criminal minds private jet and like five lawyers on it flying to Houston like the story is clear lake to read to get information that they could google right I mean the statement is statement it was very very easy to find like you can just ask the Here's for Stephanie Story Yeah like it just seems like the what is clear about this is so clear that can't imagine what they'd be investigating beyond I guess we'd be trying to kick the can through to the end of the world series you've got her story and then they fifty tweets from the other reporters who they are confirming every detail in that story the end it's also the sort of thing that could night could be right I mean it could be over if faster is h shit even a little bit on this and just admitted what they did and yet it seems like Oregon I mean this is this is the story that team in general is that like that front office is considered to be I mean it's the best in the game but also they're out of control and they do what they want and in this case like there's there I don't think that's GONNA put sufficient pressure on them to stop being this way not just in terms of being assholes to women but to like take some accountability it was very alarming between this and the NBA fuck up in China to see how NFL applied allowed these processes yeah it's supposed to be the opposite they'll should be doing these leagues usually do which is like basic shit that out yeah I think you said it the night that the this story dropped and the Astros responded that this is something very trumpian yeah about this which is just to deny what is objectively true yeah no consequence just call it fake news and assume that like the percentage of the people that are inclined to agree with you will agree with you I had a conversation in DM with a guy Astros Fan that night after I tweeted that he was upset and he was like well there's no video and there's no audio and it's not a card that I can usually play because I haven't really covered that many games in my life but I have covered an LLC like game whatever deciding game game five in that case and it was the sort of thing where it was like I know what happens at these fucking celebrations our deep no one's recording anymore this is like drunk guys with cigars and the idea that like you wouldn't believe it after all these different eye witnesses and I told him that was like I have a fucking friend who is there like not the person that wrote the story like another person who saw this happen and you just if you don't want to believe it you can't get people to believe it I have to I had to present the case for the nationals being shitty as an objective person otherwise there's a very big of you although I I also believe first of all I'm I live in the DC area now I almost from here but that's bullshit so I have sort of adopted the nationals and I was like them too partisan DC together like Oh my God Democrats and Republicans can have a beer together and watch the show troupe for really to everybody weird and artificial those people are too all these it looks like a cardboard cutout of Wolf Blitzer propped up in front of a dugout he's like very happy that my team blank has succeeded in -aseball like even the decision room or whatever the fuck is like called so the the stupid the Kurdish posted from the siege article was Nationals Park Peter acre chief Washington correspondent for the Times took his spot in the low section between home plate in the dugout of course he gets there a section over is the Oracle of baseball loving political I'm just George will there's no more unifying force in the established Washington journalism the Nets James Carville the political operative commentator Israel cargo voice that's pretty good solid flying in from New Orleans for the first championship game on Friday sits next to Luca Rosser a fat cat offered Russell thousands of dollars of price for US tickets but he of "Winner is Simone Biles for very obvious reasons six the US all around title she is the girl she had a leotard with a go on the back respectfully so I don't know if you saw it no I do yeah on the back of her leotard on the first night I believe of the U. S. championships had our last name on it with a picture of a go the dazzling on the back of her Leo that is swag I now so she made history not once but twice in a matter of two days in Simone Biles fashion she did a double double disc now on her beam routine and a triple double on her floor routine and if you haven't seen it Google it right now it's I don't I've always been like mesmerized with gymnastics I've always I've always wanted to be a gymnast and I'm I'm just never did but I love the Olympics it's like my favorite time of every four years the summer Olympics watching gymnastics how you can just like flipped and just throw yourself in the air and then land on your feet I just get like how do you do that she's like one of the greatest athletes I think we're ever going to see in our time period so some miles she my winner that's that's why I had no idea she had to go out on the back all my god it's amazing but for the record that that the triple double that you speak of I saw that I'm like I said all my was like on my TV I was like oh yes this is what I watch I was like how do you do that someone tweeted the slow mo of it I'm like it's on real my goodness she's out of this world guide yeah like even all the other girls when you watch all the other girls their gun I mean they're a leak Janice she blows them out of the park I mean she it's just so crazy how great she is yeah all my guy your X. games she is on her skin mode all right Veronica you gave you enter now who is your okay this happened last night and so I kind of changed my mind I'm a loser but the Yankees game I don't know if anybody saw the three Jackson's the objections that happened last night so the Yankees manager got ejected over Colin knob Cameron Maybin dalam strike whatever they're winning this game so we go downstairs arguing they throw him out Brett Gardner he was a like this he wasn't even really part of this argument he was taking his bat and basically beat the crap out of the dugout yeah and they call them out they told me to inject they object to them and then I don't know how to say this guy's last name sees he's a bath yeah yeah right he gets ejected after basically just in all these in fighting words and words I can't stand the axe falls over I thought it was crazy so I knew what he was on the injured less useful to get off today and you saw that injected so you can get a jacket if you're on the on the I. R. so I don't really know who's the loser in that situation but the whole situation is a loser to me I thought it was so funny I like it I like it all right you now you throw to someone else when you got to have the same intensity me asking whether winner losers so guy I'm gonna go to Alex who show when I think it has get James because next year yet he's white satiny plan and I just a game at field of dreams and I am just so graduate cited for that game added that's gonna be awesome and I never thought something that would happen so it might just be one game it might not be the greatest match of the teams but that is just I I saw that news and I thought it was a joke because I figure no nobody's ever I play it right now but yeah that's that's awesome in in in what is spend such a boring baseball season with the Tigers means horrible that was pretty awesome to see so filtering staff and I went around pump that name that's here if they build it they will come yes and they will next year yes I like it yeah all right I Alex who's a loser hi our boy Tate Martell I had a time line here I just want to read on this is just awesome yeah it so twenty twelve he commits to Washington twenty fifteen he determines from washed and you know so okay it happens yeah and you know twenty fifteen to miss Texas a and M. twenty sixteen he says the other TV saying them are polite and that he starts yeah profanity and that he can start as a freshman easily easily wow Sameer deaconess for ma'am Ben Ben Sameera Dan chemist Ohio state finances mine and rolls at a higher state twenty seventeen is back up last year in for obvious reasons yeah yes you know essentially beat out by a dozen fields for even place house nap yeah or at least significant how snaps at Ohio state says street is somebody here goes the transfer portal yeah ghost Miami analysts starting job to a freshman quarterback there but to make matters even worse yeah wise my name is head coach also said that the battle between backup and thirteen Corey bad between him and another guy still hasn't decided yet all my god yes do you might go through all this to be a third string quarterback at Miami I did hear that he was thing about transitioning into a wide receivers well to but regardless I'll take things agency for five hundred dollars yeah you said that he's had a tough go so how big time loser just compete man just just Pete trust process you know all the above got a hot girlfriend to this or that yeah it's just you know I guess I guess he's got a theory can get at this point to you Sir is had not three point anywhere true write offs all right I'm really interested to see who this guy has a winner loser this week I'm really really interested step our absence Tennessee he was okay but there are my water this week is Christian Wade he's the Buffalo Bills running back I don't think he's a starter but he's certainly in contention to being a starter his first touch during preseason was a sixty five yard touchdown in the coals who laid the fourth quarter he's if you don't know who this guy is he's he he was I think was picked up by the bills he played rugby for a lot of years over in England and he he had a really good catch the other day against the Panthers forty eight yards but just the way this guy moves I'm I'm excited to see him play in the NFL I hoped the bills keep woman knock on him but he's my winner this week for just having that that first touch in the NFL a touchdown yes sixty five yarder yeah rugby for it if you've never watched a rugby match I don't know how these guys don't break their bones more easily the way our lady they doing just play through it probably they they are certified you know be a M. F.'s you know so he's my winner this week he he reminds you of Barry Sanders has got this low center of gravity can kinda like move at the south of a dime and pry trucks some dudes real hard to yeah right I steps out one whose or a loser loser this week are the Baltimore Orioles only because they've lost six in a row so they're probably playing the worst out of any Major League Baseball team right now on a six game losing streak they lost four in a row to the Yankees two against the red Sox they play them tonight but I just want to mention that they're not the worst team in the major leagues there two and a half games above the Tigers but the way they're playing right now they could be last year soon so the Baltimore Orioles I'm a loser this week and this leads me to a man ms yes yeah who is your winner this week buddy my winner this week is former Michigan deline man and now New England Patriots defensive land chase golden locks wind of it six tackles and a sack against the Titans I had five solo tackles in their game was a yesterday they played two days ago doesn't matter the guy is tearing up in pre season had a great game against alliance but then again its alliance as well too but is looking really good in the pre season I've mentioned before I think he's going to make some some some waves and could potentially be in the running for defensive rookie of the year in the NFL so chase one of edge tearing it up the gold the the gold in the vanilla gorilla I love this my winner Manila gorilla James one of it is my winner this week all right is who is your my loser this week is a Los Angeles Lakers after hearing the news boogie cousins being done for the year with a torn ACL even before anything happened he tore his ACL they have just signers sound like they're in the process of signing Dwight Howard they're in the process of replacing boogie cousins why with well yes Howard the Lakers are a complete you know what show right now maybe ten years ago sure how old is he I don't know the ease getting out there I mean he is he is that when it comes to being a journeyman ever since he left Orlando he had been boo boo that's the best way to say it so the the Lakers a bit Lisa this just pure bad luck all round for the Lakers you know the thing they can get a D. all right as far as in a trade you know the seething entrance houses season they finally did in the over but I think they overpaid and they end up shipping a whole bunch of people out of Los Angeles so they can try to make up for the contract the eighty has and they're like okay so who we got really don't have much left and now we gotta bring Dwight Howard and to replace boogie cousins so the Lakers are my loser this week Anthony bad jingle Ariel we're back for season four in the book day one in the books I will come back next week as we will preview Michigan at middle Tennessee state take on the blue racers in thirteen days coming up this Saturday the first official college football games Miami Florida by the way to god that one out four K. run again I don't really Florida Sir okay if any reader to Florida and tell tamer talk comes in and saves the day other notices further notice he's actually he's aged transfer to T. B. you transfer porting university is transferring to the bed Stuy conference that's right straight over the big guy's going to Montana just like a former tape that actually was here in Ann Arbor children's center I go Grizz coming up in about thirty minutes or so tired baseball the rep of the series with the Tampa Bay rays why no one does but I mean if you are listening trying their best sometimes they try me they went thirteen innings yesterday just to lose that's something I guess one of the two the rays racially contention so if you want to actually hear a team that's in contention for the playoffs you listen to the Tigers take on the race who are in contention for the playoffs still coming up tomorrow the Michigan instead of life from randori golf course for the U. of M. golf club are you of them alumni club of greater to traits seven I will be broadcasting live from their mission the inside the whole show from ten to one Jim Rome one to three in the end zone three to six tomorrow and will get yourself.

At a very good morning to everybody. Well, Mary Bono did not last very long as the head of the USA gymnastics. She resigned just after five days now with Simone biles who called her out Mary Bono. Lynn, she was not happy with the Nike Colin Kaepernick ad campaign. And she apparently used a black marker to cubs Mary Bono. Did he did marry bona? Did she used a black market a cover up the Nike logo to voice her displeasure with a company's ad campaign built around the NFL activist quarterback Simone biles called her out? And Mary Bono has folded like a cheap tent. She by the way, was the wife of Sonny Bono's, right? I bet Simone biles Laker because Mary Bono was a Republican. I bet that's I think that's what set well byles. You know, first of all US, women's gymnastics has a huge whose problem is all about. Larry Nassar and all the abuse. And he's in prison for the rest of his life. Indeed. And so this Mary Bono comes in Bono to to clean things up. And then she they find this tweet that she put out, and she I don't know her her did you ever apology letter. It's not really an apology letter. The reason why she's stepping down. I think she kind of dances around a lot of stuff. But well, she goes after the personal attacks on her. But she doesn't come out with a direct opponent apologize. I suppose the head of the gymnastics board of directors probably should not take a political position on these things. One way. She's going after a sponsor. I mean, Simone biles are casting lady. And hurts we as as if we don't need sponsors. Right. You know, they need they need Nike in need other sponsorships. So she should probably have focused on trying to burnish the reputation organization. That's really in the gutter. From allegations problems your favorite football team is making a lot of headlines. I they gave Odell Beckham junior's ninety five million bucks. Then he gave an interview to ESPN where he kinda criticized the way the team was playing and now the owner of that team John Mara who doesn't often say a lot of stuff. Well, here's what he said.
