"Even before Peter did. And God sees the patient kind loving joyful free you before you even believe that you exist. And the surprising part of the text is that Simon Peter, they're both in the same boat, kind of represents the flesh and the spirit to me when I think about it. When he sees all the fish in his boat, you would think he'd be happy. Oh, thank you, Jesus. PTO. Praise emojis. But he felt that Jesus's knees and said, we're seeing, go Laura. I am a sinful man. For he and his companions were astonished. At what God saw beneath the surface. And brought forth to his boat. They were astonished at the catch of fish. They had taken. And so were James and John, nobody expected this, the sons of zebedee, Simon's partners, then Jesus. Said to Simon, don't be afraid from now on. You will fish for people. That's not what you want him to say, you know? You want them to be late. Don't be afraid, Peter. From now on, I'm gonna go fishing with you every time. And I'm gonna show you every spot. You're not gonna have to fish all night and catch nothing anymore. We even have some 5 minute fishing trips. I'm gonna just tell you where to put down the next. And boom, that's what we're gonna got to do, right? That's what we want God to do, right? No, pastor Steven. I want God to take 15 years to fix my problem. In the past, Steven. But I give Simon credit. I give Simon Peter credit for his self awareness. Self awareness is a wonderful thing. Self awareness will save you from doing stupid things. But self awareness as you go about to see in this text, it can only take you so far. Because Simon is aware of his simpleness, but he is not yet aware of his Peter Ness. I'm making up a word just to make a point. Simon says, go away from me, lord, I'm a sinful man. And he's scared because you would be, too, like, how did you see that at the bottom of the ocean? We have a fish in here all night. We've been fishing our whole lives. You're a rabbi. You're a Carpenter. You know more about the water than we do when you've worked with your whole life. If you solve that beneath the surface, I wonder what you see in me. Most of us are still scared of God. We are. That's why we pray fake. You use some words when you pray. Well, I just never heard you use those words to last you to say the blessing. That was mightiest goddess. I prayed that Taoist would visit his dust as in this moment as what is this superlative nest that you are. I'm not even hurt your voice drop that low, oh my.

"Belong to him and when you leave him out. Things will not go the way they're supposed to go. And that's what was happening with the disciples. Have you caught any fish. Jesus asked i love. Daddy said boys to because he was sort of in silhouette form it was early. Boys he calls. Have you caught any fish bowl. Who's he call them. Boys or adult men out here and then john realizes it's the lord and they make their way in their hauling this massive net teaming with freshly caught fish. And here's the scene. They see jesus sitting by a fire. He's made them breakfast. I bet jesus was a good cook. Don't you think probably made some big now. Probably know bacon now. That's that's not kosher but fishing eggs. Hopefully some eggs. I don't know. I like eggs in the morning. So you know they're they're it's cooking and and here's the amazing thing this is god incarnate. The creator of the universe in human form who has just gone to the cross. He's been crucified. he's risen again. Let's those nail peers tends was making them breakfast so they come in and they sit down by the glow of the fire. It was as you boo. Time for peter because he remembers the last time he saw jesus then aglow of a fire. He was denied him. He would probably look at jesus. And jesus would look up. Jeez peter would probably look down just embarrassed shamed not knowing what to say and now jesus breaks silence with these statements. And we go back to john. A twenty-one simon son of jonah. Do you love me more than these. Yes peter replies. You know. I love you then feed my lambs. Jesus told them. I want you to notice one thing to love me more than these. The old prideful self-confident. Peter who said in the upper room. Though all deny you. I will never deny you have said. Of course. I love you more than these. No one loves you like. I do the newly repentant humbled peter just says lord. I love you. I'm not going to both of my love at the expense of others and jesus is feed my sheep. You know what that means. He was back in business again. Jesus not only forgave him. He was recommissioning him for service again. And god will do the same for you. He will forgive you and then you can start this new relationship with him again. Just as jesus called disciples from the shore seen coming up breakfast. He's calling to us to have a meal with him. The bible uses the picture of having a meal with someone as friendship and fellowship. I don't like to eat with people. I don't know someone will come up to me and said i'd like to take you out the luncheon and talk to you about a business proposition. No thank you because if they pay for the meal. I'm kind of beholden to them and after listen to their spiel. And that gives me indigestion now. On and with people i like i go out to eat with members of my family or friends or people in close to and jesus says behold i send out the door and i knock and you'll hear my voice and open the door.

"That was the intro to the message. Okay john twenty one verse. One later jesus appeared again to the disciples beside the sea of galilee. This is how it happened. Several of the disciples were there. Simon peter thomas nicknamed the twin nathaniel from kenya in galilee. The sons of zebedee. The two other disciples and simon peter who was clearly the leader of the gang said. I'm going fishing. We'll come to. They said and they went out onto the boat and they can't nothing all night at don. Jesus was standing on the beach but the disciples couldn't see who he was. He called our boys. Do you have any fish. no they replied any said. Why don't you throw out your net on the right side of the boat and you'll get some and they did and they couldn't hall in the net because there were so many fish in it will stop there. I love this. Have you ever felt like you wanna just put a gone fishing. Sign up disconnect. That's how these guys felt. They didn't know what to do. They didn't know what this next step was. And they went out fishing and they caught nothing kind of picture of their lives really a picture of our life but when we leave jesus out of the equation. Things don't go well do they. You know maybe you'll have that successor. Maybe you'll have a failure but whatever it is you have when you have it without god. You really have nothing. Life goes so much better when we listen to him and most importantly do what he tells us to do. I heard the story of a lady that was at the airport and she was waiting for her flight and she went to one of those little cookie. Stores bought a bag of cookies so she had a few minutes. She sat down with big sort of community table There were other people sitting there including a man across from. She sat down Pull out a right. Pad was going to chuck up on her social media and she's doing so she reaches into her bag to get her first cookie and much to her shock. There's a man's hand in her bag and he's reaching for a cookie to she looks at them. Like what are you doing. He takes a cookie out. Needs that without any embarrassment. She takes her cookie needs. Who is this guy. So she reaches infra second cookie he reaches into them for third he reaches emperor third. This happened so they get to the bottom of the bag. And there's one cookie left and he gets it first. He smiles breaks it in half and gives her half she. Snatches it eats. it walks away of. How dare that man eat my goodies right in front of me. Who did he think he. Who does he think he is so she gets her seat. In the plane she sits down and reaches. Indoor person finds her bag.

"So thanks for joining me for this podcast. Jesus drops the bombshell. One of them is going to betray him. That would be judas. Peter sees this is a great opportunity to both of his great love and devotion for christ and he says though all tonight you i will never ten you. Jesus since you brought it up for the rooster crows twice. You'll deny three times that you know me. Peter said there's no way that will ever happen. Well no it was going to happen. And peter was about to learn. The pride goes before a fall and so of course. That's exactly what he ended up doing fast forward crisis arrested. He's being taken out to the house of the high priest kaya face and outside of his house there's an open patio area where there's a big fire burning and people are warming themselves by it. Peter is sort of following a as crisis arrested. He goes that a fire and he's standing there. Some recognizes him and says you were with jesus. I mean the first thing. I would have asked the by repeater was would be. Are there any roosters around here. Because jesus did say very specifically crow twice. Jesus no i never knew the guy. Peter says rooster crows and our passes he could have gotten out of their and our paths. That someone else. No i recognize you. You were with jesus. I never knew them and rooster crows. Then he denies him at third time. The third time taking an oath saying in effect. I swear to god i never knew jesus and at that moment the bible tells us christ was let out of the house of and he made momentary contact with simon peter and the glow of the fire. Wow what kind of expression do you think jesus had. When he looked at peter at that moment after his third giving you rolled his eyes. A i think he looked at them with love and compassion. He knew it was coming. He predicted that. But peter was devastated. Any went out and began to weep bitterly because he had failed the lord the lord knew he would fail so he was giving him another chance. So peter and john sprint to the tomb and by the way in john's gospel he mentions. He beat peter to the two. That's a perk of writing your own gospel. You can be inspired by god but you can throw in little details like that. Yeah i beat the old dude. He was kinda slow both of them. Come and see the same scene. It's an mtv to it's a tomb of a wealthy man belonging to joseph joseph of arimathea others area cut out the lead. The body and jesus was wrapped in bandages. Almost mummy like if you will. The bandages are still. There is always still in them but the body is gone. John comes at the tomb. Looks in sees. The body is gone immediately gets risen and takes off. Peter comes in chess. Tv looking looks at the same thing. The bible says he wondered in himself. What was happening little skeptical. I don't know what's going and as he's leaving the tomb. Yes who he encounters. Jesus the they have a private conversation that we don't know anything about. We just know that jesus appeared personally to peter and no doubt that is when jesus extended to peter forgiveness. But peter probably thought. I'm a washed up on. Never do anything for god again. I'm no longer puff soul plans and that brings us to john twenty one by the way..

A Prayer for Clarity

"Per year for clarity i make bucher read by liam martin his divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness second peter. One three okay. The receptionist will already us. Six months for the left is prescription and six months for the right is prescription. In that moment. i realized. I've been wearing my contacts in the wrong is for most of the summer right. Before twenty twenty. My age old prescription had finally changed. But for most of twenty twenty. I'd worn my glasses. I had forgotten. Both my eyes were no longer remedied by the same prescription. No wonder i felt slightly cross eyed a lot of the summer. It's hard to see clearly without the right prescription. It's still hard to see with the right prescription in the wrong is simon. Peter wrote his second letter to the church later. In his life to encourage and instruct christ followers in how to live a godly life. Because god has given christians all they need to become spiritually matured the nav biblical theology study bible explains they must actively pursue spiritual maturity if they expect to receive a rich welcome. Into god's eternal kingdom heater was one of the three who witnessed the transfiguration of christ. He was in jesus close circle of friends. He knew what it meant to follow the shepherd you knew. It wasn't just enough to know about jesus for those early church members and us today spiritual warfare wages to distract and confuse us. Heater knew it would be important. Then as it is to us now to live our lives as a reflection of god's glory how do we do that with the right prescription the correct perspective. Our physical human sight and insight is limited. We must learn to seek god in his word and yield to the spirits nudge. In our lives. He's given us everything we need to live a godly life. That glorifies his name the more we earnestly seek him the more clearly we can see. Let's pray father. You have made this day and we will rejoice and be glad in it. Abba father savior. Jesus spirit comforter all glory and honor we lift to you. We look to you for provisions and healing stand in awe of the beauty and blessing use around our lives with even when we can't see straight help us to see ourselves others and creation through your perspective. God help us see clearly having is to see as you want us to see we want your will for our lives father because your promises are greater than anything we can ask for or imagined and beyond our perspective site. Help us to remember. You are creator. Our author are compassionate and caring father. Christ jesus may we follow you faithfully and look to you before scrambling for our own solutions. "The pioneer. Of our salvation. What the pioneers do. They go first. Blaze the trail and then everything he asked of his disciples. Jesus went first. Before Jesus asked anyone else to change their lives for the sake of the Kingdom of God. He did it first. At one point Jesus even came up to a group of men and said I want you to give up your career. I want you to change your life work for the sake of the Kingdom of God. Jesus went to the Sea of Galilee. And there he saw Simon Peter And Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, casting a net into the sea and Jesus said to them Follow me. And I will make you fishers of men. And immediately They left their nets and followed him. He did essentially the same thing with James and John. They were in their boat mending their nets, and immediately he called them and they left their father's 70 in the boat with the hired servants, and they followed him. Now the brevity of March report makes it feel incomplete, like he's left something out. For example, if I was Peter, and this guy just walked up to my fishing boat and said, Follow me, and I'll make you fishers of men. I have some questions for him like Who are you? Or what exactly is a Fisher of men. And what do you mean? Follow you? You know what? There's a part of me that so desperately wants to fill in those blanks. Believe that Peter and Andrew and James and John knew Jesus already, or maybe they had heard him preaching. I mean, after all, Mark says that Jesus had been preaching around Galilee. Maybe they had met. Maybe they had her Jesus teach and we're familiar with his program. But Mark doesn't tell us any of that. He doesn't want to distract us from the main point. Considering that mark is Peter's testimony is strange fragility to believe that that wasn't important. Or that Peter wouldn't mention or explain that he knew Jesus before this moment. No, this story is tight for a reason. It is uncomfortably brief by design. The way that Mark presents it. He wants to focus on this one thing that Jesus called and they responded immediately. There's that word that appears over and over again. Immediately. Heaven split and the spirit descended on him like a dove immediately. The Holy Spirit drove Jesus into the wilderness immediately. They left their nets and followed him. Mark can't seem to get enough of this word immediately. Occurs over 40 times in the Gospel..

"Our first lesson this morning comes from first John Chapter four, beginning at verse 16. Let's listen to God's word for us. So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love and those who abide in love abiding God. And God abides and them. Love has been perfected among us in this That we may have boldness on the day of judgment because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love. Perfect. Love casts out fear. Fear has to do with punishment and whoever fear has not reached perfection in love. We love because he first loved us. Those who say I love God. Hate their brother or sisters. Liars. For those who do not love a brother or sister, whom they have seen. Cannot love God whom they have not seen. Commandment we have from him is this Those who love God must love They're brothers and sisters also This is the word of our Lord. Thanks Be to God. You're looking now at the post resurrection appearances of Jesus and we hear yet another story this taken from the Gospel of John 21st chapter beginning at the first verse. After these things, Jesus showed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Thai beer Ius, and he showed himself in this way. Gather there together were Simon Peter. Thomas called the twin. It's good to see the Thomas has been restored to this gathering. You recall he was absent the night of Jesus first appearance. Nathaniel of Qena in Galilee, the sons of 70, James and John to other disciples as well. I'm not sure why they aren't named here. Simon, Peter said to them, I'm going fishing and they said to him, we'll go with you. They went out and got into the boat. But that night, they caught nothing. Just after daybreak. Jesus stood on the beach. But the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them Children. You have no fish, have you? They answered him. No. He said to them, cast the net to the right side of the boat, and you will find some. So they cast it and now they were not able to haul it in because there were so many fish that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, it is the Lord. When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord. He put on some clothes for he was naked and jumped into the sea. But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish for they were not far from the land only about 100 yards off. When they had gone ashore. They saw charcoal fire there with fish on it and bread. Jesus said To them, bring some of the fish. You've just caught. So Simon Peter went aboard and hold the net is sure full of large fish 153 of them. Find out a fascinating little detail that seems to lend some authenticity to the credence of this story. And although there were so many, the net was not Thorne Jesus said To them come and have breakfast now, none of the disciples there to ask him. Who are you? Because they knew it was the Lord Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them and did the same with the fish. This was now the third time that Jesus appeared to the disciples after he was raised from the dead. And when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter Simon, son of John You love me more than these? He said to him. Yes, Lord, you know that I love you and Jesus said to him feed my lambs. The second time he said to him, Simon, son of John, Do you love me? He said to him? Yes. Would you know that I love you? And Jesus said to him tend my sheep. You said to him the third time signed Simon, son of John, Do you love me and Peter felt hurt because he said to him the third time do you love me? And he said, Lord, you know everything you know that I love you. And Jesus said to him. Feed my sheep. Let us break. God, we give you thanks for the gift of the day for the privilege of worship. And even in our time of separation, we know the unity of your holy spirit that binds us together. And so even now, may we be bound together into the teaching of your word in our reflections may the words of my mouth and made the meditations of our hearts together, Find acceptance in your sight. For it is through Christ and to his honor and glory. We pray it. Men. During these past several weeks, really? Since Easter. We have been looking together the post resurrection appearances of Jesus recall. We've heard of his appearing to Mary at the tomb early that morning. Into two of his followers as they walked on the road to e mails that same day. Later that evening, he appeared to the 12, or at least to the gathered 10 Judas. Absent Now, Thomas absent as well. He appears in the upper room, closed door locked windows. A week later, he appeared again to them this time, with Thomas present to assure him to assure them to assure us that he really was alive and to give that same assurance to us. To all of us who have not seen and yet have come to believe. In our reflections On these appearances we have explored together the nature of faith. And the inevitability of doubt. We've asked questions as to how Christ continues to make himself known to us today and what it takes for us to recognize him in the every day of our lives. And now this morning, we're asking the all important question. So what are we supposed to do with all of this? Or as I ask of you in a recent video, how shall we then live?.

Faith Is First in Your Heart, Then In Your Actions

"Say is i in your heart and it's got to get in your mouth. Second corinthians five seven we walk by faith we regulate our lives and conduct ourselves bar conviction our belief respecting man's relationship to god and divine things. Thus we walk by faith and not by sight our appearance so faith is not something that you have. Because you see something that convinces you. It's not even something that you have because you believe. Are you feel something that convinces you but it's something you i have in your heart. That's why many times you believe something that doesn't make any sense at all to your mind. Don't have any people here today. That you've got something in your heart. You believe god wants to do in your life and you can back it up in the word but to your natural mind it makes no sense at all. How about somebody. Who just you don't see any way that you're believing could ever possibly happen. Not we'll see. That's why you need this message because there's not enough doug you know if you're not believing for the impossible then you're not open for miracle in your life the only way you're ever going to get a miracle is if you have to have one if you need one when you stop depending on everything else around you and believe that only god can help you. Luke chapter five the first five versus i share these scriptures often because i think that make such an amazing point and so i wanna share them in this message now at occurred while the people pressed on jesus to hear the message of god it was standing by the lake of genetic the sea of galilee jesus standing by a lake and there were all kinds of people around who wanted to hear what he was saying. I guess a little bit like today. We got lake out there. Somewhere and Here you are. In here i am. I'm preaching and you want to hear the word of god. And he saw two boats that were there at the lake but the fisherman had gotten out of the boats and they were washing their nets. They'd been fishing all day and they were finished the day and so he got into one of the boats. One that belong to simon peter and he asked him to draw a little bit from the shore. Now you might not understand why it could have been because the crowd was pressing him in too much but one of the things back then. They didn't have the microphone on the sound system that i've got but when you speak over water it carries that sound a lot more than if you're not so jesus got out a little bit into the water. I guess so. He didn't get pressed by the people would also so the sound would carry better got into one of the boats. The one that belonged to peter and he said to him pull out a little bit from the shore. He finished his message. And then he said to peter put out into the deep and lower your nets for hall. So here's the thing. Simon peter's master we fished all night were exhausted. And we didn't catch a thing. Well some of you've been doing that you've been fishing half airline for something and you haven't got anything yet. Well maybe it's because you haven't been fishing deep enough. Come on remember. My is not talking about christians that are attached but not committed. Paper used dating jesus but not married when make a full commitment. Something different happens in our life. So i've been fishing all night. They didn't catch anything. they were tired. They wanna go home. And jesus said now i want you to go out a little bit deeper. Maybe you've about given up on your dream. And god's saying to you to date nope not yet don't give up. Just keep believing one more time one more time. Maybe some of you need to pick your own dreams up and dust them off and believe that god can do great things

"Christ to the nations and the nations to the church. Thank you for your faithful support. The Reverend Ryan to Nettie is pastor of trinity Lutheran church Arcadia, Michigan. Now, here's pastor today. He is risen he is risen indeed a Louis. The motto of the New York Times is all the news that's fit to print when I was in high school. I worked on the school paper. And our motto was our own kind of spin on this. We said that all the news that fits we print. It's funny Saint John and his gospel. He actually says something closer to my high school's motto. He says that there are also many other things that Jesus did. And we're everyone of them to be written. I suppose that the world itself could not contain the. Books that would be written. In other words, John saying that what he includes in his account is only the tip of the iceberg, the signs that Jesus did the words that he spoke there enough to fill up all of the world's libraries, and then some. Which raises kind of an interesting question because sometimes John will include these curious little details. The details that you might not think would make the cut in a narrative that he himself admits is only a small slice of a much much larger pie. Well, there's one of those curious little details in the passage that we're looking at today. It's in John chapter twenty one versus one through fourteen and I want to read it for you. Now after this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the Taibbi areas, and he revealed himself in this way. Simon Peter Thomas called the twin Nathaniel of Qena in Galilee. The sons of Sabah and two others of his disciples were together Simon Peter says to them I'm going fishing, and they say to him we're going with you. They went out and got into the boat that night they caught nothing just as day was breaking Jesus stood on the shore yet the disciples. Did not know that it was Jesus then she's assess to them children. You don't have any fish, do you. They answered him. Nope. He said to them cast the net on the right side of the boat and you'll find some so they cast it and now they weren't able to draw in because of the quantity of fish. And so that disciple whom Jesus loved says to Peter the Lord Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord he put on his outer garment free was stripped for work and threw himself into the sea. The other disciples came in the boat dragging the net full of fish for. They were not far from the land. But about one hundred yards off. When they got out on land. They see a charcoal fire in place with fish laid out on it. And Brad Jesus says to them bring some of the fish that you just caught till Simon Peter went aboard and drew the net ashore full of large fish one hundred and fifty three of them. And although there were so many the net was not torn Jesus says to them come and have breakfast another disciples dared. Ask him who are you? They knew it was the Lord Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them. And so with the fish, this is now the third time that she's this was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the debt. This is the gospel of the Lord craze to you. Oh christ. Now, did you catch the curious little detail? John makes it a point to say that the disciples netted off hundred and fifty three large fish, not a whole lot of fish or not even know one hundred fifty or so precisely a hundred and fifty three large fish. Why would he contain and include this Monday little bit of information? Well, you might be thinking. Well, okay. That's kind of weird. But so what they caught a bunch of fish John included. Just how many there were and we move on. But listen, that's not the way that Saint John works. If he took the trouble to record this detail in his already packed small slice of the giant pie narrative. He must have seen some meaning in it. And in fact, I think that there is a profound purpose to it a purpose. That speaks to the significance of the gospel in your life and in mind. Okay. So then what why this one hundred and fifty three why include that? Well, might be might be the John mentions that they caught one hundred and fifty three fish because they caught one hundred fifty three fish other words, it's just a matter of accurate reporting simple as that there's one biblical commentator. He points out. The John does have a love of exactness and a readiness to supply numerical detail, you think of John mentioning that there were six water jars at the wedding at Qena or the fact that Lazarus was in the tomb for four days, it's possible that John's just being a good journalist. He wanted to get his details. Right. It's possible. But it's one thing to count up a half dozen barrels or remember, you know, how many days somebody had been dead before they came back to life. And it's quite another thing to count up the exact number of fish that you caught especially when it's such a large and seemingly random number now. Don't get me wrong here. Okay. John is giving us accurate reporting. They did actually catch one hundred and fifty three fish. He's not just telling a fish story. Okay. Sorry. I couldn't resist saying that. I don't think that this tells the whole story by including this number at all it's like John is underlying it for us. He's putting it in bold and saying pay attention to this. So there's gotta be something more going on here. Well, others have said, okay. Okay. Well, maybe the number one hundred fifty three has a hidden symbolic. Meaning this was actually the case for a lot of early Christians of Saint Augustine, for example, this towering. In the early church a theologian in the fourth century. This is what he.

"Program the views and opinions expressed are those of the advertiser and do not necessarily represent those of w. I. EM network is pleased to present Ronald L dart and born to win. There is one event upon which all of history turns. Event attested well enough that millions of people believe accept it. Yet. It's enough that some do not. Although I will confess most of those who do not accept it have never really looked at the evidence. There was a man who was dead and buried. He was stone cold dead. He had a spear thrust into him in the blood drained from his body. He'd been carefully prepared for burial. His body tightly wrapped in a shroud. With burial spices in place all around him. He was laid in a tomb in the rock and a great stone was rolled over the entrance to the tomb guards were placed there to ensure that he stayed dead. He laid in that seal tomb for three days and three nights. The end of that seventy two hours. There was a greater quake the stone rolled away and the man walked out of that tomb alive. This is the man who looked death in the face and one, and as you know, his name was Jesus. Now, what makes this the most important event in history is that he defeated death for all of us. Poll writing in Hebrews had this to say about this. You'll find it in Hebrews two and beginning verse fourteen for as much then as the children are partake of flesh and blood. He that is Jesus also himself. Likewise, took part of the same that through death. He might destroy him that had the power of death. That is the devil and deliver them who through fear of death all their lifetime subject to bondage. Him who had the power of death? The devil was destroyed through death. When a how in the world does that work? Well, it works in the fact that Jesus died and was resurrected. Now, there's another reason why this event is so crucial in human history. If it were only a rumor, we could just believe it. But this event is no rumor it is far too. Well, attested one of the great themes of the bible is the importance of testimony. In the law. This is crucial principle of jurisprudence and rights. It's laid out early in the bible in Deuteronomy seventeen for six at the mouth of two witnesses or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death. But at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death. We're going to have any. He said she said in this law. We've got to have at least two witnesses and preferably three in order to execute a criminal. This is cited all the way down in the New Testament Matthew eighteen verse fifteen where Jesus is talking about relationships between people in his church. He says moreover, if your brother she'll trespass against you go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he will hear you you've gained your brother gave you'll not hear you then take one or two more that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established, and this concept of testimony and witnesses in the belief of witnesses really shot through the entire bible. So this being the case witnesses are crucial to the truth of the resurrection of Jesus, and whether we can believe it or not. So I called to the stand a man named John to testify. He was one of Jesus closest disciples. And he tells us what happened you'll find his account beginning John nineteen along about verse thirty one he says the Jews because it was the preparation of the body should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath day for that Sabbath was a high day be sought pilot that their legs might be broken. They might be taken away. Jesus has been on the cross for hours he has suffered terribly there. And so the time coming with a new holiday coming up the first day of unleavened bread or the first day of Passover the Jews wanted none of this going on on the festival the festival day. So let's get these men down off the stakes then came the soldiers and broke the legs of the first and of the other which was crucified which eases when it came to Jesus and. I saw that. He was dead already didn't break his legs. One of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side and their came out, blood and water. Now, he goes on to tell us all these things were done at the scripture should be fulfilled a bone of him show, not be broken. So we have established in testimony that he is dead. No is he dead. He got stabbed. And all the blood rushed out of him. And again, another scripture says they show look on him whom they pierced. Now after this. There was a man named Joseph of Arimathea who one of the disciples of Jesus. But he was a disciple secretly because he was a friend of the Jews asked pilot for the body of Jesus. So pilot said okay, and he came he took the body of Jesus down off the cross and a man named Nicodemus. Who was a man who first came to Jesus by night. They came together they brought a mixture of Mur and Aloes about one hundred pound weight, and they took the body of Jesus, and they wound up in linen clothes and spices is the manner of juices to bury now right nearby them. There was a garden and a new sepulcher apparently of Joseph Verma themes own sepulcher, and they lay Jesus there because of the Jews preparation day, the Sabbath was coming on fast, and they had to get this done. So they put him there. The sepulcher being near at hand. So we have testimony record that Jesus. Died that he was carefully prepared for burial. And buried. John picks up his testimony in the twentieth chapter with a Sunday morning. The first day of the week comes Mary Magdalene early. It was still dark to the sepulcher. And she sees the stone taken away from the sepulcher. So whatever happened had already happened while it was still dark. She ran and came to Simon Peter and the other disciple whom Jesus loved probably John and said to them they've taken the Lord out of the sepulcher, and we don't know where they have laid him. You have to understand at this point all disciples had no idea what had happened. They thought somebody rolled the stone back and somebody had taken Jesus body away in thrown it into some dump. So Peter ran out the other disciple came to the sepulcher they ran both of them together. The other disciple ran faster than Peter and got their first he stooped down. He looked inside. There was the shroud lying there with no body in it. He didn't go in. Then came Simon Peter right behind him. He went straight in and saw the linen clothes lying there. He also saw the napkin that had been put around Jesus head that was not lying with the linen clothes. It was carefully wrapped placed off to one side by itself. And then the other disciple came in with Peter and he saw and he believed. This was the first time it don't on these men what had happened because his yet. They did not understand the scriptures that Jesus had to rise from the dead. So the disciples went away to their own home. Mary on the other hand is standing off to one side weaving. She went over she stooped down, and she looked into the sepulcher and her started amazement she saw two handles in white sitting one at the head the other defeat of where the body of Jesus lane. They said to her woman crying about and he said, well, they taken away my Lord. And I don't know where they have laid him. He's still doesn't have any idea. When she had said this. She turned herself back. Jesus standing there. But she didn't recognize him. Did not realize it was him. And she said Jesus said to her woman, are you crying about who you looking for. She was a gardener. And she said, sir. If you have taken him away, tell me where you've laid him and I'll take him completely away. And Jesus called her by name. Mary. And she turned herself and said rep, Donna. Master. Jesus. It don't touch me. I am not yet ascended to my father, go to my brethren say to them, I said to my father and to your father and to my God and your God. So Mary came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord that. He's spoken these things to her in the same day at evening being the first day of the week. When the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear that Jews Jesus came and stood in the midst of them and said peace Biondi you. Mary was the first person to see Jesus alive after the resurrection. Is fascinating way. I suppose it's possible that it was merely a coincidence that Mary happened to be there at the time that Jesus happened to be there. But I think far more likely Mary was an important person to Jesus he apparently cast seven demons out of the woman, and that there was a spiritual bond perhaps emotional bond between them I don't think there was any more than that. But the first person he presented himself to after he was raised from the dead was woman Mary Magdalene out of whom he had cast seven demons. So now, we have this affidavit I have in my hands, the affidavit of John you've probably have it in your home. It's in the bible.
