And then I know he can't can't even look me in the eye. When he says that even look me in the I just ate a tiny cupcakes. Well, you can't even look himself in the eye right now. Look a big big show for today, Jim curtain filled up union head coach joins us here in the first segment. They've now won three out of four and that comes on the heels of a sons of been protests now starting to see maybe what this Philadelphian Yoon team can do remember into last season. They were pretty good. It just didn't start well form. We'll see what curtain has to say. We're also gonna talk a bunch of US national team, maybe some Canadian national team there's a laundry list of topics there women's World Cup. Of course. That's coming up. It's got it's very very soon. I'm excited women's were cop. You twenty World Cup Cup America down the U twenty three's on the are now headed to take on the Netherlands on Friday a friendly. Gold cups around the core. There's just a lot to talk about on the international side. We'll talk about all that and segment two and then hit the mail bag. I kind of teased it DC. United fans have not taken kindly to Simon's pick 'em predictions. Let's say he's been wrong about a lot of wools happens. The old. Zero face of like recognition. But let's get mid midweek action before we get the gym here. DC started off the night with a three one win against Chicago. They're another top team the supporters, shield standings. And it doesn't seem to matter who they play at this point and doesn't doesn't. I mean, you know, they got the deepest even MLS. Right. I mean every position you see shuttling in and out. I think they said last night that twelve of fifteen games have been different lineups for DC. And it doesn't matter Terada yet. They gets two goals last night. I mean oil scored a goal. Yeah. So a lot of anticipation and a lot of just waiting for closer. Now that the games finally tomorrow definitely on a little bit more buzz around the group. I'm curious to see what the attendance is going to be like at these events. I think it's always interesting typically in vents that don't involve the home team. Obviously, you know, it's more of a friends and families, and maybe a couple hundred people have you family traveled for you to watch you there. Not this time. It's a bit of a journey to sit sisters beg school. So we've been a little Billie watching, but you will get to face off against the hosts have you guys talked all about maybe what the crowd pressure will be like how that's going to change things for you. I think right now our focus on this first game me and my when we play New Zealand. We'll obviously think that consideration preparation but very much about me more Jordan yesterday's game. LA versus ARA sell one. Nothing lost for your team. Did you get to watch it? I'm gonna work out here. I was just on on Twitter. The molest live New Zealanders not getting their Melissa fix last one for you, Jordan. I know you have a busy day ahead of you. We had Tab Ramos in this office a couple of weeks back, and we asked him a lot. What can this team? Do. I know it was a group of death for him the last time around, but the group's a little bit kinder for you. This time. Do you guys have high expectations? What do you expect to get out of this tournament? What what kind of result would be satisfactory? I guess. I think for sure we have to make it out of the group. And then from the when she got the group is just a one game at a time. And I think we ability to make a strong push. We've good technical players. And I think we have the ability to get good results. But not even just getting results, namely, the players that you can get good results on playing good football. I think that's important just for US, Akron, general or people watching from home people staying up all hours of the night to us, Jordan, Alan, and the US you twenty first games. Not that bad midnight eastern, midnight eastern, twelve o one as we mentioned you can follow him on Twitter. I actually just hit the fall button on Jordan on Jay Allen, J A, Y, Jordan. Good luck. Man. Keep it going. Hopefully, we'll see you guys moving on from this group much. Appreciate it. Thanks, jordan. Big thanks to Jordan island for sure. And a little bit of his time. Did anyone catch that? I just falling short and Alan go ahead and follow me. That was a that was a desperate plea for Jordan Allen to funding. No desperation there. But you know, what if I get another follower out of it? I'm not gonna complain about it, look I haven't mentioned that yet. If you wanna watch this one on TV, if you wanna be like like Dave here to be tweeting away at midnight. Just and you're seeing by the way a lot of top talents. I mean, they're always five to ten players that come coming stars. We heard you heard it from mattdoyle. "I'm Andrew we be as always with me the guy Simon Borg, David Goss still here. It's a Tuesday. He is still here. Double secret probation right now. You know, how can anyone know? Well, we poll you guys rig the poll, no way the poll. Don't don't David involved here. Well, no employment status is a separate thing. I could only hope to have as loyal friend as you Andrew. And anyone anyone listening could only hope to have his loyal, a friend as Andrew we be as to David because every poll the percentage is usually appear. If you go on the extra time article, this did not didn't wanna tip the scales in any. Why don't you make that argument every poll because those don't matter? This is his wish. Brand as loyal as Andrew. I'm such a loyal friend to you that I have to me at this point your name at this one. I've hours of recorded footage of you making HR gaffes time after time, but I've kept them all. I'm not gonna blackmail that. Definitely. All the air. Not at all. He's live showing you what he's done actually goes against. Of the poll here, we put it out should Dave day or should he go? I think I said canned. And it was it was pretty much. It was he shouldn't be. Can they said there not said? Yes. Should we have stuff in the mail bag that we got some interesting potential? See nine percent of you said do not fire. Dave the other thirty two percent or whatever close to whatever that is thirty one. Yeah. Well, it's thirty one point five six, you know, these numbers very, well just saying he was saying he was saying actually Simon that we should pull out whether you deserved a raise to and that the voice of the people, maybe democracy democracy rules. Yeah. But we can't see the poll results. Then what is what did you see voting results to go vote for president? No, that's the way these things work Simon. That's that's the way things were democracy. Have in Malta. I know we have a big show for you today. It is a Tuesday, which is a bit strange Monday was an off day for us. I went to the royals game. Got they got smashed. It was practically worthless day. Maybe we'll talk about that in the mail bag. What do people do if you go to your team's game? And they just go straight downhill. We also have Chris wanted to ask you on the show. He hit the hundred club. He is now a member of the MLS century club just nine of them out there. And I don't know that they'll be another one for a long time along those lines. We're gonna we're gonna bring been the researcher on in bear, one of our Emma's soccer dot com, employee's here guy who gets down into the numbers sees what happens. He's broken down the stats. He's going to tell us who maybe has a chance at this thing. There's not many that do to be honest with you. We have a surprise guest. Clubbing century. Okay. What else are we talking about? No percentages on that. You take guesses or just like clarity? You know from the startling wanting to be clear, okay listeners. Probably this won't be clear that we have maybe a surprise guest from south of the border. We're very hopeful to get this one. I don't wanna say it isn't till we no do not know..

"Back now extra time radio. Simon borg. David Goss, Andrew we here in the studio, and you can hear right there, Dr Jekyll mister Hyde. Only these parts it is Dr Simon and Mr Borg was this all about guys are kind of you kind of have a who's has earned five splurge prince J C Cowden emails in. And he says that there is a doctor Simon Mr Borg boil down for you. He said, he's not the only one who's known as Simon has two distinct modes slash moods. ETR the civil thoughtful, and frankly charming Dr Simon often heard when he is stepping into hoes Andrews absence, although occasionally spotted at other times throughout the year and the annoyed and often annoying angry, Mr Borg who is in pulses, gruff and unreasonable. I'm going to tweet out a Mr Borg photo like mid transformation here in a little bit. Shingle count. I hope you context to that walk around doing that. There's no context needed. My mom actually has diagnosed she's told me this for a long time that when you host you lose some of your trademark verve. And so she likes the likes you likes, Mr Borg who likes the animal. Does the adrenaline pump? Just a little bit less. It does it does feel different you feel responsibility as a host. I mean, don't you feel a little bit? Yeah. You got a guy to show keep it online on the tracks. Let's talk about the tracks the tracks that we have on this show last show. We started with the New York Darby is that what we're calling it. The Hudson river Darby, derby, whatever we're not calling anything. It's it's it's the New York rivalry the empire. I'll be named later whatever and we came in. And we talked about NYC FC thorough amount of time. We we talked about the winning New York red bulls for a lot less and so near guys did miss either sm-, Dr Simon or Mr. boy, we weren't sure at the time stepped in and saved us, but we got a fair amount of angry emails from red bulls fan. So let's read some of them Victoria McKay. Wants to know now will we have a red bull supporter on ETR to ask about their cross town rivalry in the run-up to the rematch where we have a red bulls player or any sort of red bull's presence. Give preview will our next Darby recap. Be so one sided that Simon once again has to step in and save us. And we'll Andrew continued. A welcome guest to talk about the next Darby. Will he ask them about the NYC FC game rather than the New York game? We will have a road bulls guest. I we'll go ahead and guarantee that right now, I wasn't aware that I was doing that. But I can stop doing that. If that was a habit that I've gotten into. Yeah. Look we shortchanged him a little bit. But you have to admit of the two stories right now, which is more compelling. It's CFC I'm sorry rebels fans. I love what you're doing. I think the team is great. But as far as just strictly stories and conversation goes I still think that NYC is more interesting right now well to respond to that Jim Nelson, south Sioux, Falls, Nebraska, believe tease, you who's gonna just back me out of the park. Now, he says that we are homers, and that this rivalry means nothing to anyone outside of. New york. The only thing we forgot to mention on Monday was how much bigger was than the Super Bowl. He's happy. We finally got her little rivalry. He stuck around for a few minutes into the second-half thinking, the red card might add some incitement, but it remained mind numbing Lee, boring, and Mark and also steps up from my belief Salem massive before we get there, can I just establish that when Simon was calling it like the best of all time. I know he had like ninety minutes of goosebumps. David can I'm like was crazy..

And they tag at MLS on it to credit for tagging. Yeah. I mean, you leave you feeling not heightened the rivalry. I think so I think it's starting to create a robbery, right? I don't know if there's a rivalry from their side to do we should count. How many goals happen league every week? Okay. And we should we should be tweeting legal bunkum ex and saying, hey, how many fans showed up at your games as weekend. Here's our average attend. Hey, how many goals were scored? I don't know. If you're you're big in New Year's resolutions. But you know, wondering if maybe you pledge to come out of your shell little bit thousand fifteen his knee off. Welcome to extra time radio leading you into a week that I think has the potential to be historic and that is obvious. I think it's an obvious statement with David Goss. I'm Simon Borg David this first leg of the Concha CAF Champions League coming up on Wednesday nine eastern on FOX sport to foxsports to and only Maas TV sports to in Canada from the Mexico City club America versus Montreal impact. Do you feel? It has the same buzz that rail Salt Lake versus Monterey had back in twenty eleven. I don't think I don't think. So not in the circles that I've that I'm in. And I think part of that is I think America looks like a steeper test in Monterey did at the time. Think part of that is part of it that are S L was playing better in MLS up time than Montreal is. Now, Trump was the last place team just a few months. So I I think that all factors. Into it..

"Back now, extratime radio with just the guy. Simon Borg David Goss out and about on this Thursday. We come in with hail to the chief because we have yet another president coming up that would be US president Jake Edwards, but first Simon what have I done? How could I have led the show and not talked about the Montreal impacts to a win in the semi finals. I mean, this is this is a grievous stuff. I I apologize Montreal. Because I was into that game. That game was we'll make we'll make it up if they can get through this now second leg, which I have my concerns, but they needed one more goal to nothing was nice was good. But you had you had the rest of the game. You you were to nothing up minutes sixteen nothing Ella Wednesday coast the rest of the game. Seventy five minutes to do something else to get one or two more goals than they tried. They had a couple of good looks. But they seemed like they were content toward the end. What was more import- keep the two nil? What was important the two or three one or maybe a two one? I think that they played this thing out. Right. I know that they want another goal. But look you can't always get what you want. Are. They bring in patriots as their sub. Because I think Donna dough is probably a he's probably a red card possibly came in you saw. But it was him in now and your favorite. Yeah. I don't have a problem with mouse coming into the game. Then why are you bringing burn Yan? Go look for another goal. Just wish wanted legs in the midfield. They should've they should've substituted Cameron porter because it showed that he was he was getting tired there at the end. He does a lot of chasing. Who'd you who brought in for only guy you have Jack mcenery say, hey, you got fifty minutes here. Jack, just go all out. But you know, what who's probably got a little bit of a sour taste in his mouth. Not a big one. Maybe Jack Mak though, everybody figured he's a starter came reporter. I mean, the only one of us three that knew anything about. Him was Dave Goss. And that's because Dave those college soccer stuff. So what about that kid the partnership with team in his feet? I don't know. I don't know if people just didn't see him in college. Or if he's not this good or just the environment is bringing this out of him. He's a mystery to me and I'm loving right now, look what I think is that looking at him. I was I was contemplating this with via Tripoli are Montreal impact beat writer when we had him on the show on Monday. Whether now we can entertain, you know, talking about Puerto replacing mcinerney, I think it has a lot to do. I think in other circumstances porter would probably be brought along a little bit slower, but neck ner need looked so lifeless in the one appearance he had against United that you need you need you need Puertas energy..

"Point the Tampa Bay mutiny played the New England Revolution. My mother wasn't sure. What to do who root for? That's one that she couldn't avoid this is one that you can choose to void pre. But he can't avoid it. He lives in Atlanta, his should go and walk and what if he moves to Houston does he now have all. No, no. Because we've just said he's not going to be in Atlanta fac. He's going to be a DC United what it's gonna take his heart. But he's still going to go watch the local team. Here's the real question for you guys. I know this we're going long hair, but his real question for you. Children. Yeah. All right. So you grow up in DC your DC United fan, you then moved to Houston or Atlanta, or whatever, and you have a child what should your child be a fan of should you try to indoctrinate your child in your childhood fandom, or do you allow them to say, you know, what I'm from Houston because that kid from Houston or from Atlanta, they're not from DC. Should they be supporting their local team? You get so point and speaking out of experience where you don't have you don't have saying that because my kid had MetroStars jersey. It's the firs shiver got. So she fell in love with the club. And so she's red fans and I asked her Winston CFC, right? And she doesn't want to switch. So she's now red bull fan. I have I can't I don't have a say in it. Didn't you have this experience with you? Yeah. You bought him bought him a Red Wings jersey? And I felt terrible for it in. It was his birthday lives in Los Angeles. And I thought I should have bought him in LA kings jersey because that's his team. He was born in Los Angeles since he has no connection to Detroit whatsoever, family, fine. But but I mean, you know, if it were for my family, I never would have been a Red Wings fan. I would have been a devil's fan. So I want to get into it. But I wonder how you feel about the Chelsea fan who lives in New York who never lived in London in their life. Yeah. I don't think of them necessarily as fans this goes in the open. But I just don't think it's it's a different type of fandom. Right. There's there's like the supporter and there's a fan, and you appreciate I love Chelsea. I'm a fan of Chelsea I love watching him play. But if Chelsea play Arsenal, I don't have a rooting interest in that way, some people do, and it's always been very confusing. So last show we were talking about NYC FC. And the question was sign. Has this image of these nineteen seventies New York Cosmo's of them being these off the field and on the field superstars, and we were talking about who would be then why CFC player who's going to be all the clubs beat all the big parties beyond the tabloids? And we left out one guy who met in Salt Lake City thinks we should've added in that is Sebastian Velazquez, he said hands down. He's going to be quote, unquote, the wildest member of NYC f c. Why would you? I don't know. I mean, he he probably is the most adventurous player on the field that that's the way it might turn out and in the barbershop and in the Barbara show. But I think he's got a personality. We all know he has a big personality, and that's going to play well in New York. But this is New York it only plays. Well, if you're playing well, if you're a superstar. If you're playing well, your personality will only help you if you're not playing well, your personality will become and he has to be an MVP candidate for him to really elevate to that kind of stardom where now you're paying attention to him, and you paint is the fact that he's wild. So in other words, Simon you just said Sebastian Velazquez as an MVP candidate two thousand fifteen. No, he has to be an MVP candidate is they just had the discussion keep playing the way they did against St Mirren. If you prorate the first friendly of the season across the year, why not? Crazy. And that is all folks as they used to say on the cartoon that's for extra time radio here on Emily dot com. You can also download it on IT tunes. And it's of course on Sirius XM channel ninety four. We always want to hear from you hit us up on Twitter, extratime radio or Email us at extra time at MLS soccer dot com. Let us know what you think about the show. Let us know about anything. "You're encouraged to even expert time MLS soccer dot com for tweet at extratime radio with any comments questions orientations. Bobby wood from the US team. You're listening to extratime radio. Back now on extratime radio with the guys Simon Borg, David gossiping. Thanks Craig White will join us here in studio a lot of fun to be face to face. 'cause I think you can all agree with that. And honestly this song it's pork and beans by weezer. It's because we have some being commentary near the emails. I see you both looking at me with like dagger is no I'm fine with. Insecure fine with it. I'm fine with it. You're so insecure about it. Listen talking me about listen signing been bald for like a decade. You think I'm view think I'm really going to react to a song than as Rogaine in a lame song. By the way, I'm gonna be both head coach and technical director of MLS team. Because I am what the two people here. I work from dot com. And I'm going to be balled. And then I'm going to be the next Kirk. Why will? Yeah, I'm just getting a hard nosed outside back to in Maine. There you go before we get into the mailbag your we have some good mail as well. I experience appeal of sorts like to make thirty second appeal, but I have decided that I need to have no money. I do that already to figure out how I have to figure out how much soccer I watch every year because not as like a point of pride thing or like, a look how many, but like I kinda just need to know at this point how much time the block. Yeah. And I don't consider it when I'm watching it, but I wanna figure out. So I'm going to do a spreadsheet to figure out. How many I watched in a calendar year, I'm appealing to you guys because I need some parameters like thirty to forty five minutes count as a gay what constitutes a full game simultaneously count as two games that I'm watching or is that even are you even really watching if you're watching two games at the same. Are you going to calculate by league competition, you can say I watched sixty percent of my time. I spent watching domestic soccer immolates US open Cup. Women's college soccer, all of that good stuff. So I'm throwing it out there if anyone else's ever done this before if anyone has parameters for me, I greatly. Appreciate it. Sure. There's someone creative out there that maybe already done this very same thing. Speaking of watching soccer here in the US, Canada and Mexico live is back preseason price sixty four ninety nine you also get five seasons of archived games from the league. So on your computer, Android, tablet, iphone all that good stuff. I have a Roku that I'd do it on. If you wanna moss live now is probably the time to get it. If you were already subscribed to it. It will auto renew so go check out the story soccer dot com for all the details. But I wanted to provide that update some people have been hitting us Email about all of that. You know, let's go to the mailbox guys. Eric Wolcott wins Michigan on the Lascaux somebody wrote in about a potential team in Minnesota. And he said he's excited to buy season tickets for the Minnesota and west branch is if and when it gets one I got a problem with this. If you're. So excited about buying season. Tickets for a soccer team. Why don't you have tickets Minnesota United right now? They're successful. They draw a crowd good fan environment. Look if you want him less go support local soccer now that is the message coming from Eric Wolcott. He says he feels a lot of people in the US ignore kind of their local sides. So when we make of that, should Hakeem who was the one that you mailed into us halfway hockey how hot boy how you. Yeah. I think he should. I think people I enjoy watching live soccer. I think at any level if you can get it at a competitive level where people care and go watch. It'll be great. And the other thing is we just went through a weekend. Where a lot of us watch the FA Cup and said how great it was. And how awesome it is that you have these small teams with passionate fans playing against these big teams, we need people to be passionate about their small local teams. So that win the Colorado Rapids, go play the Michigan bucks. There's a huge crowd there and people are excited. It's their big one off opportunity either way, it's hard, man. You you. I don't like this business of preaching to fan. Support your local team. I mean, I don't why are you like? You said, you know, like freezing fans, which is all too. Oh, it's really tell me what I preach to them. No, no. We're not playing that game on this show. You don't go back to your point. And not change teams. Are you kidding me? You moved. You have a child who wants to root for a local news mice and civility that you can't change is my sensibility that you can't count half games as a game y he was going to say that. But those are my I it's hard for me to say you must support your local team. Why don't you supporting your local team put your money? More your mouth is David Goss. I go to when I lived up in Boston. I went to PD. W I go to the red bulls games. I'm sure I'm going to go to NYC having been out to the cosmic. I work a lot during the game. And I go to all the games, then how many games did you go? I'm not preaching to do that. I am not. I am not the the hypocrite here saying, I I want you to do it. But I'm not doing it. That's what you're doing. Okay. Hypocrites being thrown around James ski from Rockaway New York. He he's on this very same subject. After listening to last podcast. He wonders under what circumstances if any can quote unquote, big day hard fan of a club. Switch allegiances. So he wants to know from us. What would it take for us to switch allegiances for me? K basketball would be my one just you know, it's written in stone chiseled into a wall somewhere, but we'll take take boy skin. Yeah. But I still don't know if that would that would make me go away from K you basketball. I would end changes if somebody paid media to support. Yes. But then I could still be like a closet supporter of you pretend like I like Mizzou, and but really still like, I don't know if I could be pushed off my perch. I don't think I could be I think I could lose my passion for team. I don't think I could then switch it to a new team. So for example, for me, it'd be the New York Knicks, and I'm. Obviously been close for the last ten years, but I'm passionate about I watch every game. I don't think I would ever root for another team as if it was my team if a member of your family, what's your gun point? I would I would gladly. If a member of my family played for another professional sports team. I'd probably root for them. And no one will ever play. Scenario is probably going to happen for any of us. I mean, what's your team? What would it take? I mean my team team Parma Parma's my team. I mean, I haven't haven't about. They are. And you don't watch second-division down. Visit. I don't have that like team. I'm like so can it's wrong question for me. If Simon was held at gunpoint, I would consider strongly switching team really strongly considering Andrew in Greenville, South Carolina on the last show. David talked about heating a can of baked beans over a fire. If power was lost during the snowstorm, please tell me he punctures the top of the can I to pressure to escape he says, he knows a few farm lads in Kansas. He says is true. But I'm doubting. You hear Andrew who thought they had the cooking under control when mama left town for the weekend. They all love baked beans. They set a gallon of open being on the oven to heat. You guessed it exploded like a bomb. Utterly demolish the stove and causing extensive damage to mom's kitchen don't be those guys. Now, I do you do can opener, and you crack at around the side because it's hard to tot throw it on the fire and then use tongues to get it off. I'm getting baked beans tonight. By the way, decided yeah, they are so good Franklin beans. How did you spend your your non blizzard blizzard day? We got about a minute here. Oh, no, nothing special working. Yeah. I actually did to set there by the window. And why would you take your can of beans? Why would you just pour the beans in a pot and just if you don't have a pot sometimes what you bind beans for them. Well, okay. This is all an emergency scenario. But I've done it when I've gone camping before where that's what they bring for food, and you don't have to carry your pot. Someone doesn't want to carry the casino. Camping experience may have been a bad idea. I can only tell we did Lisi hypocrite now. But I do love team. Yeah. No need for survival mode. I'm a big baked beans fan myself. Big thing gallon of a lot. Yeah. Look down a milk. Just the mental math. Thanks to our guests here on this Thursday. Craig Waibel, our S L and Jesse Marsh of the New York red bulls. Let us know what you think, you know, how to get at us until then we will be back around on Monday for the guy Simon born David Goss. I am Andrew we we'll see around next time.

"You're listening extratime radio. Usually on these interviews talk about the current stuff going on with guys we we had a play by the name of David Beckham on a call. Is there a name to this thing? Is there something like if I was to go to the barber and say, I want ex that he would know exactly what I was asking for. About each other words desperation, John really muster the kind of energy hind of desperate attachments that I think would have seen out of the team at hall desperately leading goal and I desperately three four times because you have to be desperate. He's hinging almost copes pup copes Cup hopes on us. Deep down your soccer person. You're a little bit embarrassed by. Is going to disagree because I remember time about a month ago when he told me that he'd rather have a Lamar Nagel on his team. Donovan I think that's a bunch of garbage. From Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. You are listening to extra time radio and soccer dot com. Siriusxm channel ninety four. I am Andrew Abby with me, Simon Borg, David Goss. It's another hotel room addition guys. It's the post super draft addition. What do you mean another hotel room? I've never been in a hotel room with you wear a part of the molest Cup addition. It was Doyle, and and I on myself, but it was another one. So I guess I'm the loan hotel veteran here, we are in our cosy hotel room. We are all quite exhausted after very long day here at the super draft. We'll get into that energy. I just wanna throw that out. David Gus has energy my bad, David. I'm sorry. I was just you know, the collective we. There didn't quite workout. We will get to all the super draft coverage. A lot of moving and shaking Kyle layer. And was the number one overall pick of Yukon Orlando city hung onto that pick. He will go to them. We'll get to the rest of the picks. We'll talk about the big deems on the day. You'll hear some audio from that that's all in the first segment in the second set. Ignorant on any super half day. There was always a lot of news coming out and Don Garber, generally speaks nameless. Commissioner had a lot to say on this day about Josie Al door about expansion about some possible clarification on rules. We have some audio from that. We'll get to. And we'll talk about Josie. We'll talk about Sasha question. We'll talk about mix. Disc rude. We'll talk about Matt hedges. There's just so much going on in the world of MLS. But first, let's get the Landon Donovan, and let's get to the MVP award. That's how we're going to start this out. We'll make it quick. Then we'll get your super draft coverage. There's a new award, and it's Landon Donovan MVP. And he is the man now that when you are the best player to molest you will get a let's see a badge shaped, the endless badge or crest, or whatever you wanna call it shaped trophy and in that little like spot where they kinda they can fill in what they want. And that was the spot that everybody really liked when it came out because it gave it away to personalize things there is almost like the Jerry West except in Landon Donovan running sprinting down the field in the open field, bald as. Kind of what you'd expect from him? But for me, this is an upgrade and Donovan spoke seem very honored by it. But I just like the idea of the award itself. We've already done the year long. Farewell win on tour. That's over. But this is a nice award. And it's a good thing. He won the the two thousand nine MVP award now. Yeah. Because if he doesn't win that award can you even do this? I don't know you can. But you know, I think I think it's going to over the course of time people are gonna pre sheet this. Is he the greatest player in history? You have to say, so he's all time leading scorer all time leading assist, man. Most championships want he is the greatest and made Mr.. And then you say most accomplished and everyone has to agree with that. Because some people say, you know, a best, you know, it doesn't have to do with long jetty. And those things I would argue that that's not true. I think he's the best as well. But accomplish Scher. I'm sorry continue. No. And here we are the league is twenty years old. And it's now have has enough history where it can say we have a greatest players ever played in the league. Let's give him the MVP award. I think I fully agree with it. I think it was a cool last on it like you said we've had this whole year. But finally this last piece, but our knock on wood on that last honor thing boy 'cause I don't know if this will ever end, I think Donovan's done, I think he's gonna grab some food. He's getting a couple of cheese steaks, and he's headed out of here. I look the waistline looked as it still looks clean. Yeah. He knew he had these public appearances as always. But I also heard over this weekend as you do at the hotel bar these super draft things he is going to go to India. That's what I heard that's unconfirmed. But that would go along with some of the things he said about traveling and going and seeing the world so congratulations landed on on that future. VP's will receive this trophy. Let's hope he becomes a little more active on social media now that he's not playing anymore. There's no excuse if you're going to India, you gotta share. There you go Instagram. Landon Donovan style, you know, what let's get to the super draft. And let's let Landon Donovan take us there. He was the man who got things started on Thursday in Philly all on to do this sports fan, Orlando city SE. On the.

"You're listening extra timely. Usually on. These interviews. We like to talk about the current stuff going on with guys. We had a play by the name of David Beckham on all them. Is there a name for this day? There's something like if I was to go to the barber and say, I want ex that he would know exactly what I was asking for your comment about each other words desperation really muster the energy of desperate attacks that I think would have seen out of team at home desperately leading goal, and I desperate three or four times because you have to be desperate. He's hinging almost copes hub copes. It was Cup hopes are use deep down your soccer person. You're a little bit embarrassed by it. Is gonna disagree because I remember a time about a month ago when he told me that he'd rather have a Lamar Nagel on his team. Donovan I think that's a bunch of garbage. Oh from New York, New York. You're listening to extratime radio MLS soccer dot com. Siriusxm FC. Channel ninety four. I am Andrew we be with me. Simon Borg David Goss. It is a Friday. This is a surprise episode for a lot of you out there. It's an extra special episode. That's because we wanted to get red bull sporting director Curtis on Thursdays show. Well, it didn't happen. There were some scheduling issues on our end. We ended up having Taylor twelve and we had a great show. We gave all sorts of thoughts on the whole bra New York with New York City of see and the red bulls, and we covered everything else as well. But now on this Friday, we are very very happy to get a leak Erta. She is down in Fort Lauderdale, the former Duke striker Hermann trophy winner. He played at him Lassie for the mutiny for DC United for the burn. He was a senior director player relations in competition at MLS Intel December twenty third and that's when the red bulls hired him as sporting director. Of course, the big thing in the news right now as pertains to Ali Curtis in the red. Bulls is the dismissal of Mike Pecci Jesse Marsh in his head coach of the team. Let's go to Ali right now, very happy to have him. I'll e how's it going call while going real? Well, thank you for joining us here on this Friday, a little bit of special edition eats yard for some of the fans out there. We'll start with this has this been the craziest week of your professional life. It's been crazy molest, but the red bulls man, you guys have been in the headlines you've been making moves. Yeah. You know, it's been a it's been a challenging week. It's been a challenging last two weeks. But it's about moving forward. You know, we're very excited about twenty fifteen and beyond. And so, you know, we're excited to get the guys in come preseason and getting to know all of us development staff. So it's about moving forward. Now, there's going to be submitted gradient Alaska about that in a little bit. But let's go back to the beginning here. Because obviously you started out or were before you got into this position. The senior director of player relations in competition at MLS and you move over to the red bulls. And now you're going from the league office to the front office. How long has this been in the works has been something you've been thinking about for a long time? It's been something that you would discuss with the red bulls for a while. Because we knew that Andy Roxburgh's contract was coming to an end at some point. Well, what I would say I try to answer that question to fold. So in terms of moving through a club. You know, that's been in the works for a while. You know, it's always been a dream of nine and a goal of mine to to move to a club. And I knew when I made a decision to leave the banking world and enjoying the league office. I wanted to move to a club. And I thought that that was the ideal pathway to really hone and learn all things, and I need to learn set when I got to a club really wasn't about just being successful. But you know, I wanna be the best you know, wanted to clubs. I'm with you the best. And so that process really started seven and a half years ago. So. All the the process, I assume has been in the works based on what I saw one of your videos where you talk about a three hundred page business plan. I gotta believe that that has been in the works for quite some time. Yeah. You know, I think that these jobs, you know, these are hard and you get in them. And you know, there's a million things going going on. So to the extent you have a plan in place when you start you're able to hit the ground running and you're prepared. And ultimately, I think when you when you've prepared and you've written things down, and you have a plan in place that you say show up for success. And you give yourself the best and most efficient opportunity to win on all different angle. As McCain's the my process with the rebels. You know, I mentioned this before it didn't, you know, if the process wasn't a year, but it also wasn't a week. And when it comes to that to that business plan, give us the bridge version. I know it has your vision and your plan for the club. What's how would you summarize it as best you can summarize three hundred pages? Yeah. What I would say it's really about creating an identity and philosophy for the club that resonates from the use level all the way out for the first teen and that has to do with not just player, but also stat. And so, you know, one of our goals is really want to build a club individuals in organizations aspire to be part of and having being a world leader in providing the best and buying. They're not suppliers but also stat so creating structure that sophisticated that smart this that we can be a club that people really aspire to be part of join Twitter here recently. And I I know I followed you sure that's been a circus here for the last couple of weeks four you, but you know, three hundred pages. I I know it's hard to boil it down into say a hundred forty characters, but we we hear this. Yeah. People wanna spire to be a part of this. We want to have the best processes in place. But if I'm a New York red bulls fan, and and I'm looking at your plan. I come out saying this. Is what my club is going to be. Is there an identity that say like fans or the common person can really latch onto and say we're going to be a team that maybe plays this way, and with this philosophy and with this kind of player is there anything along those lines. What I would say, you know, from vision standpoint, you know, we have a vision that we want to build a connection between the club and the community that transcend sport. And there's very few sporting properties out there. Whether that's international dynastic, in my opinion, that do that various fishing like, but we wanna be amongst one of those clubs from a style of play. We wanna be high tempo high energy in brace that way of playing in. So Jesse will be able to provide that for our players and really that will resonate not just at the first team level, but also at the youth level as well. So we're looking forward to that. We believe are fans will embrace that style of play and will look before two twenty fifteen now, we talk about twenty fifteen and when I when I hear three hundred pages I hear, you know, we're going to all these different plans plans take time and time maybe in the world of professional sports is not always something that that people have in the. The management positions in the head coaching positions. There have been some reports out there that have said that your sporting director is for one year have to ask you is that the case or can you clarify that for us? You have more than one year to to kind of put these things in place and really get rolling. What I would say to that is in initially. I said, you know, I didn't want the times of my contract. You know, I didn't wanna disclose I'll disclose this little bit about my contract. And I'll never do it again. But it's for greater than one year. Good now. One of the first things that you did as as the new sporting director. Is you tackled the coaching situation? I I'm curious when you're when you're getting the job, you know, you're getting the job. You're you're appointed this twenty-third, what are you thinking at that point about the coaching 's situation, and what conversations did you have with Mike pecking those first days? So you know, it happens. You know, again, I would say it's all about preparations. Well, so in terms of how you know how you how I've you the pertains to not just the head coaching position. But also, our player development that on you know, I've been studying, you know, not just in New York vegetables, but really studying a variety of different clubs in through my my role at the league office. So you know, and got my plan had the job met with Mike as well as other teeth staff members. And you know, we've got a, you know, the decision, you know, it was it was difficult. But again, it wasn't about trying to get rid of my it really was about bringing in Jesse Marsch in in our commitment to excellence for this club in Jesse. You know, he really embraces an embodies where I see the club moving forward in terms of how we do. You are I. How view our team operation between two quality control and cross the bar cross department communication. How how I see the player development pyramid. As pertains to the platform from eighteen to twenty three our tadamichi are pre academy. And then how I knew the role of coaching education. How are you the the role of performance in that science and medical errors pertains to health? Science sports nines as in your health scouting and recruiting the roles analytics and technology, and then also player wellness how we bring players at board. How players are are off boarded as well. So those key areas, I believe Jesse will help lead this success. And did you approach Mike with that same with that same group of responsibilities? And maybe felt maybe he wasn't the guy for the job. Just so fans can understand was Mike in this process at all or you had you had Jesse in your mind from from. From day one. Now, you know, it was again, it was a really really tough decision. Mike good, man. And you know, I had a lens of through my interaction. Mike is a player my interaction with Mike at the leaned office. And also, I have some time sit down with them. You know, when I took the job, and we had you know, we had some some good conversations and you not only in person. But also the phone in terms of you know, where we saw the team and the roster before, but ultimately again, it wasn't so much about Mike was about Jesse. And I really believe Jesse. He embodies this vision and will embrace this new approach, and what we what we wanna do moving forward and the success in key areas that we need to see succeed in moving forward. Best enough, one decision oversee just sees the guy inside very familiar with with Jesse. From our time here at Melissa. And of course, we saw the passion and the knowledge and everything that he brings to the table. There have been some reports out there that he was not the only candidate was that you have a larger group. Did you think ESPN ESPN NFC is reporting Caleb porter? And maybe Gregg Berhalter Bruce Arena, where at least mood or contacted. Did you have a big group of people that you considered in this process? So what I would say is wouldn't I'm not going wouldn't name names. But you know, anytime you make a decision which is to hire new coach, you know, you've got to think very critically incomprehensively about that role. And I did that and I arrived at Jesse and I'm happy about the decision again. It was tough. But Jesse is going to be a great coach this call. See March taking over Mike Pecci. Of course, as you said a guy who is very important of this club. Would who was a tough decision for you to let go I believe the quote from you here. I think it was the conference call you that it was we believe Mike will be a big part of the club moving forward. I'm sure red bull fan saw that and a lot of questions popped into their minds. Can you clarify what what kind of roller you thinking are there active discussions around something like that? Or is that something that right now, it's it's maybe too fresh. I think it is a bit crushed right now. But I'd like for right for for my to be involved in the club. You know, he had given tremendous service to the club. You know, he spent seven years you as a player and the years spent as as a as a coach, and so the fans love him, and he has a role within within this club long term. But I'm sure, you know, for Mike he he needs some time to think through and and let things settle as to what's best for him and his family. So looking forward to those conversations, but you know, in terms of the details, and then they'll probably be later and tell me about now, your your experience with the fan reaction to all of this. As you mentioned he's beloved by the fans that the red bulls, Mike Pecci is. So you let them go. And how do you? How'd you manage through that you? I'm sure you. Saw it coming the fan reaction, right?

So you're just ragging on on people. Just trying to try to start their dream and also huge fans know them too. No know, what kind of name is that just it's just a marketing disaster. Boy, you are back cyborg, and we were so happy Dwayne e Gregory emailing from us in Texas us, very surprised that your show toed. The line with regards to Lampard gate. That's an outrage. It would not have been a big deal. If city football group at NYC of C had not Aphrodite the signing a done deal back in may, I might point out. There's no widespread resentment among their own fans as well. As other MLS fans. The ownership group led the fans to believe land part was signed and then on a short term loan to Manchester City. This was far from the truth. As a matter of fact, he signed a contract with city football group Simon. I'm very surprised that you of all people are taking the owners side on this. It's unbelievable. I just sprinting out that there's another way to look at this. And the that look is the from the from the owner stamp. They have an asset in Franklin part. How can they make best use of that resource of that asset? And so to me, it's a little surprising. That look I get fans are upset. But that shouldn't preclude the fact that there is another way to look at this. And I know you you may feel misled, but the fact is that they still have the intention of having land part pit play for New York City FC just it's not going to be in March. It's going to be a couple months later. Now, they're saying it's July my issue with this is not the imparts not coming back until July. It's just the way it was all handled. Just be straightforward tell everybody. What's happening? It's probably going to be July. If it's not we hope it will be suitor that didn't happen have yet to hear from NYC AFC on this topic yet, but still something that's in people's craw. Michael, McGuire and Adelaide Australia regarding gideon's allow them. I grew up around DC and live near little Atta SABA in north west. I used to pick up with many town at THEO Pinson, Molly, boys, eight at their parents restaurants. Drove by their big churches and fell in love with their older sisters. They are multiple. I guess so that would be well done. They're a big part of my hometown. And I consider as Laallam a local guide done. Well, all this is he really American. I think it's BS from DC. That is America. I am right there with him. He was an American before he got citizenship. He's an American after he can play for the national team in. Nobody should question. Any of that stuff? We've gone over this before I think, it's just it's just crazy. It's going to keep coming up. So I think we should do a service for the American song humidity and come up with an American soccer qualification quiz. Yeah. And I believe that's the last thing in the world. We would be interested in seeing that I'd like to see you make one I like to see if any of us could pass it if you would also be we're gonna lock you in that room over there and say this on the scoreboard has to come out because Dan in Portland, he sent us his. Hey, this is tesla can belly from messy Dallas, and you're listening to extratime radio. Extratime radio Simon board. Hopefully is place. I am Andrew we've you along with David Goss, this is the mail bag. I think we've tired yet Simon. You were you were just we're almost manic there for a while. And I when I'm tired, I get grumpy and cranky. So he's been tired tired. So this is this will be the crankiest. That's that's kinda like my dad. He gets. He normally that's when we make our best staff. It is it is it when he is was hunger. Me to six year old. Yeah. Actually, no. He is the that's how is yet. Because it just kind of great you're offering you have to start to start this. So I've got you back in the good place. Yeah. Really good place. Yeah. No more jahns for Simon Borg into the mail bag. Stephen Goth tweeting this DC is eyeing facilities in Texas for training ahead of Champions League away legs in Costa Rica that according to Nathan witchcraft on Twitter reminded him of Concha calf camp. But remember when he said, it should have been in Mississippi's and all mass. Can we assume here that Ben Olsen is listening to the show and saying that's where we should go? The maybe the facilities are better in Texas. Maybe the direct flights are better. I don't know. It sounds cheaper. That's true. Sounds an awful lot wear though. She. Hammy right. Yeah. But not Mississippi Miami doesn't yet Miami could be spot for kinda calf campus, speaking of Champions League, if you didn't know the twenty two thousand fifteen two thousand sixteen field for Melissa set real Salt Lake joins the galaxy Seattle DC United in the Vancouver Whitecaps, and that one just what DC and Montreal leftover in this one going into the knockout stage swept to see what the number one say are the number one seed, we'll see if they can make that matter ahead of that trip in Texas a Benjamin Mitchell also says first endless Cup trip this past week. And it was a blast highly recommend any fan make the trip at least once it's well worth it Simon before we get to make the trip from we know it does not say he did not say where he made the trip from 'cause he could've easily made it from you know. You know, miles away Santa Monica or something like that. What was your favorite moment of of cups? I mean because we haven't really got to go over this. You know, we kind of split show. I didn't wasn't face to face with you afterwards. You took the Red Eye back like a good family, man. Should. But was the what was the moment that you enjoyed the most is got to be when the entire stadium disagreed with the call, and we're hurling an expletive. And I'm talking the entire stadium. You know, which which part time of the game. I'm talking about right? No. I don't it was it was I think it was an offside that. Oh, yeah. We're Robbie Keane was clearly off side. Like was I was that the coma? But that was the one that was it was play instant replay convinced me of a lot of thinking stating again, I haven't seen that stadium for elegance game as passionate heated as it was in that moment. I'll tell you this about the Li-wen PK call though because there was a similar moment in the red bull revolution second leg where he got knocked over both times. He was on his left foot in the box both times he did not. Shoot. Lee win score twenty goals this season zero with the left foot. Boy, just wine. All right. How many shows that been that was an optimum out about it was percolating in there? Yeah. I mean, you kind of convinced me on that. Actually, I watched instant replay. I always do some great laughs but the off site on Robbie Keane live. I was like no way he's way off side. But those lines right there. I started thinking maybe he's right in the Lee win one to me the league one was a penalty. Anyway, changes there. It'd be unhappy about with that one for sure he just got it just keeps going. He's got an easy shot on goal or if you just pulled the trigger earlier keep going just see goal pull the trigger. I mean, he's been so good fish in this year. Maybe you making it's his fault that thousands of box. That's true. It's not here's the rest of Ben's Email as neutral faces. So maybe not in that area. His biggest takeaway was that Jose gonna call. This is the most under offices the most underrated player at preempted. You there Simon it MLS continually impressed by his willingness to to the back under pressure in the big game. Something you didn't think Omar was comfortable or willing to do who we think was the most underrated player to play in this Cup and who's going to do the most next year. It's not Patrick Mullen. According to Simon boring. I mean, you really just say we did we don't know what to expect from underrated from this Cup. It has to be AJ dela Garza. I think potentially he could have won MVP of the game and the block on Charlie Davies where he comes fantastic. And so for me, it's della guards, and I. I'll have another great year next year redeeming yourself, David. It's unfortunate that hasn't gotten the the attention that maybe he deserved. I think it's tragic that this season. Maybe some of the reason why are the things around him. But he's just such a good player. So versatile can play over that backline. We see the effect. He has on dollars a great season from daily Garza certainly went to see more from him and MLS moving onto the expansion draft. Craig Baltimore's biggest fan fire fan since two thousand nine he says as a fire fan he's expecting a bit more activity than the trade windows before. And after the expansion draft. He thought Frank shop, and Brian bliss might be more aggressive and acquiring players through trades than they were. Yeah, they brought into foreign signings. Michael Stevens, also air Garrick if you missed that in the first segment, but he wants MLS established players type things. Yup. Tends to favor. What do we think of the fires business? So far this season. Simon said Michael Stevens coming over from starbuck. He's a hometown guy. Eric garrick? Also guy who grew up rooting. For the fire. And then you have the two foreign guys kind of the winger forward out of Norway believe it was. And then then you also have Colin Fernandez who's a homegrown cat. And then Jovan Jones who comes from western connections defender midfielder anything stand out to you. It's the fact that they're going local, and we know Chicago such a hotbed, and the fact that they're making an attempt to get guys who were from the area and build that Chicago pride, and what's interesting is that you're also seeing it in New York where New York City of C have made some of the recent picks have been locals. I think it works. Well in Chicago because of the long tradition of players coming out of there. I'm not sure that the New Yorker is going to be more in love with the team because there are New Yorkers on it. That's my personal feeling. But I think Chicago they're doing the right thing at because I think the identity of the club has lost its way a little bit over the years. I think it'd be great to have that core of. Of local kids because again, the tradition from Chicago soccer's Harry schinder as well. I think firefighters probably are going to say, where's our DP? We wanna DP they've said before they had the money potentially germane Jones haven't done the strike around Sweden is a DP. And I'm going to go didn't wanna go there. Hannity, Ivana Niki. Came into this show. He goes Kennedy. But he is a DP striker hundred five years old. So if you want them to be aggressive. I don't know how much more aggressive. They can be than going out and getting the big name. I guess that one. I knew he was a flew under the radar on me. And yeah, you're right. I've waited 'cause I didn't wanna do last. But not least Craig adding this one on and this one's for Simon. He says he's like to know if you some and follow the adventures of the guy you'll goat its giant goat made of strong Sweden, each December for the past forty years nearly half the time it's been vandalized by arsonists and never gets to see Christmas can watch it on a camera in real time for those that want to check it out. Although nothing to check out in. Oh, we've got burned already got burned this year for sixty years. It's been going on it gets burnt down almost every single year. He says this is the kind of holiday tradition the expects that you will love Simon down something to teach Victorio lesson about the Truman even Christmas. He says don't celebrate too much because someone could be waiting to torch. You. And when they do you better be ready with your t-shirt and jam spoon. Clutched in your clemmie, white fist. What's your favorite holiday tradition? The does it have to do with burning things down. No, the favorite holiday tradition has been just seeing pundit donnas Thomas. Yeah. But we always have upon the Tony on the morning of Christmas. What is that? Sorry. Like a sponge cake, but that's doing it a disservice certainly doing service it has fruit. It's a, but it's. The one that Andrew Farrell's family had for thanksgiving. And he thought it was proving and you obviously not right him. Yeah. I will the best part the old days when I was not as health conscious. It would come with a bag of sugar. So what you do is you open. The bag worth cake is dump dump the sugar. Then you close the bagging shape that until you see nothing it's a fog of sugar, then it's so great. So sounds good. I'll tell you about this goat thing though. 'cause I went out and looked at it. And I and I'll we'll tweet out a link. How big is this by the way, it's very large like, okay? Thank god. It's made of all straw. And how Lord I don't know a human larger than human large. It's like a statue. It's almost like the Trojan horse, exactly struggle. The best part is continually gets burned down, which they don't want it to and an American one time was arrested because he was convinced. It was a tradition, and he went and burned it because he thought it was the right thing to do. And he was arrested for up. Giving americans. Good name. No, not so bright that not so bright. Let's see before we get out of here. Let's see we got some little bit of housekeeping to do we won't have shows from the twenty second to the fourth. We will have some evergreen shows. "Wanna hear from you? You're encouraged to Email extra time at MLS soccer dot com for tweet at extratime radio with any comments questions orientations. Talk by Kevin Molina. Listen to extra on TV. Backdown extra time radio with the guys Simon Borg, David some soothing sounds for Simon give it good place before this with Houston dynamo, head coach coil guys. We knew this was probably going to happen. There was a lot of news coming out about it. He was headed to Houston. He was in discussions with anima president, Chris Canetti, and it was kind of a foregone conclusion. The long short of it own coil is the head coach of Houston animal. He's keeping the previous assistance. That's Wade Barrett. Tim Hanley Steve Rolston Matt Jordan will be of course, the VP their soccer decisions helping to build that roster. So he's coming into the figure peace and the first thing that you're going to hear on Twitter as foreign coaches don't work in a molest, and there is a little bit of a track record there does that matter will own coil via success with the Houston animals. He the right man for this job Simon. I mean, it's to me it's going to be interested. I think he's going to have a lot of pressure on them to start because I think a lot of people right now wonder, okay, because of this history of the foreign coaches, you know, can a guy like this be successful. I mean, it's hard for me to say, I don't know his career that we haven't followed his teams inside and out. So I don't know how he's managed to group former Bolton and Burnley coach brought of course, Tim ream and Stuart Holden both to Bolton. So little connection to American soccer did also to or in the US has come to Houston before friends with them. And it can you a part of that time with Bolton Burnley who's in the second division. Simon doesn't watch second division's hailing watches, I division so many first-division leagues gonna watch second of his I think it's promising because a lot of times at the foreign managers. They don't take the time to learn. And that's one of the issues we find they don't understand all the different ways that you can move players all these things, he's a smart guy. He wants to learn he already talked about how he watched the league. He brought his teams here to the US continuous. Ears and broaden MLS players. He has a connection to the league already. I think and he's the type of manager who has had situations before he tries to bring in a new style and tries to be creative and fun to watch and interact with the fans ultimately little bit of a test case goes, I think that's one of the more interesting things about it. Yeah. We can go on and on about foreign coaches, not succeeding, but maybe here's one that can buck the trend or or maybe not who knows we'll have to wait. Maybe the league has changed. Maybe that'll be the interesting part, and we're very very happy to have Owen Coyle on the show here on this Thursday coach, how's it going high logically? All right. Well, let's start off. I I saw on Twitter this afternoon a Twitter takeover for the dynamo. And the first thing I wanted was Owen Coyle have a Twitter account. And is this the first time he's done a Twitter takeover to me that seems very American. But maybe I'm off there. That's the first time. I'm going to say devolved into it's like, my my son had been been on for these two all current trends. But failing my experience, I I it was good fun. Gives them the opportunity to some questions, and they are really joy experience off to set up. The toughest question you got coach. Bomb on a superhero. No. I mean, I think there was. Some of the defines were interested than you know, how you play you know, what formations will be house. What players are you looking to oversee some stuff that you can you're able to answer any clearly, you know, if we have targeting players, you sound like specific names ball, I think it was nice for everybody feel involved, and and some of some of these questions. All right, go to jump into the job here. Take us back. Adrian said he thought you probably had opportunities to come to molest before this you end up with Houston. When did all this start? What about MLS was was something that you were interested in take me back to the beginning? Yeah. Well, first and foremost, I think you'll know because get back and the game, but I've always had to keep interests name land seventy. That's why I brought my team six years on a roll to the US for the pre season and played various teams as you know, what I should play juiston dynamo in two thousand eleven Rowlinson stadium. The near stadium is being built so always vested insistently Vegas spectrum of the league on the playoffs. I finished you it holding two thousand ten I'd say Tim ream from your red bills various players overdrive and the one over vision. I always made every year was leaked was getting bad to standard. It was get van and looking at it as a harmful on. I mean, I really believe it's league. And what software screwing foster any, and I truly believe in few years to come. They'll be one of the top leagues globally, so destruction. And the other thing was knowing the Houston dynamo, and the people involved there, then of course on you. That would be a good fit on the you know, we went. Do whatever y'all you want to engage ought to be successful. And I think Houston dynamo can can give a platform to do dominate known since nineteen ninety four when it was a playable to borders came over trial myself and join McGinley who was probably one of those players and Richard come under ring really for two weeks with the Scottish by really good to know. And then I always vested interest. And and how he was doing players cool your head coach and over say that kid could Houston dynamo. So it's funny. How old ties end? So I always had caned of sense of -ffiliated and when the job became available. I thought you know, if if there's an opportunity fail, the, you know, I was of interest to them they're not just fill. It was a wonderful club. And we're very good people. Chris can hear something offense feeling much autumn's then as VP and general manager and just got a real good feeling. Good people. I kind of clump. I mean, usually the original would in any league in the world. So there's so much going forward too much. Intensity. I feel an a chance to come and infrastructure in place those have club wail for years to come coach. You telling us about what sold you on Houston. I'm curious. What did you have to do to sell Houston about you? And what you can bring to the club. NFL thing. You know, I think when being of of success. So I think a saintly people Houston knew the game, very knowledgeable. What a white and they felt. Digits come from the abuse. And I said they were looking for a next head coach an oversell the giving them here. I fulfilled and getting, you know, a, whatever you, you know, two games the game itself and be eleven of course, the intricacies of league with the job systems and such forth for oversee the label. I hav was terrific players. Some very good teams. I come here the balance and knowing there's a lot of head of his ball Schumann for the challenge. And the as I say, it's an Saint John's and one can phone with them. Imagine your head spinning a little bit. At this point in the season. You've got all these different drafts. We're going through the expansion draft the waiver draft you've got the reentry draft coming up yet. You've got an experienced staff around you hold onto guys like Wade Barrett, and Steve Roulston have you had the crash course yet. I'm imagining them in a room with a chalkboard explaining all these things. I mean, it's it's not easy to understand. No. It's even even the the people with experience an analyst sometimes struggle with the monuments with some of the systems in place and yet for all and and both the job shifts expansion Johnston in the wave of draft. And they of course, enlightening ball. I like anything lamb no on that front, and they, you know, within all, you know, regardless of the jobs and never ever systems involved at the important thing is really trying to get a bass player for the best value that into what we want to do in terms of proceeding as club, and they are not what we have to calm to do. We understand financially and everything else. Club in last. But what we kinda cheap to be as Houston dynamo of done before. It's too vide- based wall, we are and not to do we look to team on the Representative of support, but he to that can be pleasing the I wouldn't games because ultimately what all over the same thing. And that's one games. And and make sure that we're bringing funds and and Houston dynamo as and feeling of a sense of togetherness, and that will be strange house a gun the chance to speak to the players yet. I haven't spoke to the players that are off season of family bump into being a few players over the end doing some conditional walks or vice Joe's and Jones bombs and broad was Davis is to get a child way. Which was also true understanding players are in a you know, the the been terrific Joe's with. Had wonderful season. She'll she'll even more come from. So it's always nice when you touch base before we boys, and she was able to do but collectively we'll be back and you'll metals and Johnny for the season. We'll be ready to go in and coach. I'm sure you've you've taken a good amount of games in from the Houston dynamo from last year. When you look at them what what is the what what do you want to do to improve this? What do you think it was? It was missing again less than that. As of. There's no getting away from very simplified. Anybody wants to try and improve the team. I mean if almost dome improve the team from last year, that's not just sick and HR what we have to do before. Look as best we could be settling into one or two to the score dot goes without saying, and as I said before it's important that not the preseason gives you the opportunity to employment how you wanna play and who you want to. And Russia so that will give it the chance to do. A just dateable of overs been doing for for being the playoffs in the playoffs because you know, and beating analyst. I missed the last year. So we have to try a base to to to get this going to be able to competitiveness and could be on there pushing again for the for the major donors challenging coach when fans here in the US here English coach they just by habit. I think think direct you're not that type of coach and you've said that over and over and then we see down this Twitter takeover. You say you're going to widen the pitch at BBVA. And that's something. I think a lot of people have wanted to see for a while. Now, what should we expect from the Houston dynamo next year? What you know pie in the scope of what is being in teams. I I've always played I've always loved playing. You know, I'm striking sale. I've always loved playing not a wing of people getting gas much choices in and you know, the best in the game is a bull headed about net. For me, the second basic food bunch on automatically of your their support. You see something say things going home? And we wanna do we want? Play winning football do but equally won't be Satan world while doing it at takes off those and it wouldn't happen overnight. You know, we wanted to. And if it falls in place, there's going to law to get where we want to be. There's something that doesn't phase will always you enjoyed those believe how the most fish you can have and not something going with an is way open and for for a tremendous challenge. Coach curious when you coming into the league, I'm sure all the media you've done everyone brings up well coaches who come from overseas. Don't do well in MLS. Did you did you know that going in this surprised to hear this? Sure. It's plenty of negativity negatively to bring you down. No. Well, I mean. Yeah. All ideal was supposedly I'm going to see that. People. Wanna listen, we know how to give I mean, certainly fears and the best league in the world three packs. Three packs, a fingernail years to somebody wants to negative. You know, they're not doesn't faze me. I mean, the wrong thinking a foreign coach when they last two thousand ten so does not care. But anyway. Right role as material because forgotten so do any job as you should know in the future in Israel. You'll be just support. You know, what you went before the what four if hosmer in your setting what I just Hupa judged. It does Houston dynamo Norway that before and not the challenge that faces every one of us, and it's one nine four two four big challenge would be for me on that Houston sideline you? But I sweat. I been in Houston in the summer. I'm from the midwest is that going to be an issue for you. And how do you combat that on the sideline with the attire the go full suit in the middle of the summer? I don't know if this is something you've thought about yet. But I gotta ask you that. I gotta get specifics here coach suit or no suit in July and Sony suit or no suit in July, just purse thing, if if you if you look at my mind code to even the middle of winter by I I will, you know, my my training uniform and my shorts and my socks. So I think probably tell yo you need to go. You've got the answer those questions. Own coil. Head coach of the Houston dynamo building that Rosser hoping to return from the plants in the Western Conference is here. It's going to be a tough slog. But Owen sounds like he's up for the task coach. Thank you for joining us here and good look along off-season to go. And then of course preseason. Enjoyed out. Thank you, very much, judge John Coyle. Houston dynamo. Head coach looking to build that team getting back into the playoffs. Of course, they'll be in the Western Conference this upcoming season. "We want to hear from you. You're encouraged to Email extra time MLS soccer dot com. For tweet at extratime radio. Questions orientations. Hey, guys. This is Lee win the New England Revolution. And you're listening to extratime radio. Back non extratime radio with the guy Simon for David Goss. I am Andrew we we are here in the mail back up here and join this show on this Thursday, or whenever you are listening to it. We start with Bryce the human on Twitter guy. Should I keep growing my beard or keep it trimmed? It's getting cold outside. And since Simon is a as a beard. He certainly appears to trim it David with the stubble you with the wannabe mustache look. I would say should be independent of the seasons. Really just I mean, you don't. The same thing in the summer. You don't trim it a little bit more. Either. It's a good look for for me. It's all about comfort. And that's why I keep it because otherwise it just gets comfortable with it. But I never go clean shaven. Even if it's hot out in the some really beard looks like it's just sharp in wants to like eat your face like minds more comfy. It's a comfy beer. Yeah. Yours is semi each your beard up. Could see the beer to me is overrated in terms of how much think it's going to keep you warm. Keep your warm not at all s-, keep your face. How much how much maintenance on your beard doing no maintenance on this wanna be mustaches? You put it. I'm just give it a try this see how November goes for it. Every two weeks a little trim. What do you trim with do? You have machinery or you have like hedge clippers he got which was like a big process. That's that's the other thing. Mr. Eric Axelson is is that you need to Bryce Mr. rice, the rice, the human Mr. human, you need to trim, and that's going to involve an investment of at least fifty dollars on fifty bucks on a trimmer for Bryce the human. Eric Axelson who had not got to yet is the dismemberment plan basis than he tweeted in. He saw on the show that we did this. And he said the next dismemberment plan album is going to be called fifty shades of Anya jams for your spoon by Bork while it's four Borg. I guess he says thanks for playing them. This was the song. We played. Yeah. And someone literally emailed in to say that you saying that you didn't like that song means that they will no longer. Listen to this podcast ever. Again. Good credit wasn't one of the members of the band. It wasn't. No. Of course, it wasn't. It was who was just really angry about Simon's treatment of dismemberment plan every actual sin. This is nothing. None of this all personal. People hate me all the time. I don't take it personally. You shouldn't take my. You're on his musical preferences on this show that there's a very high likelihood almost certain that he won't like it. When you gave me that. What's what's the name of the band again? I'll love that one. Which one was it Jay alpha J O J J so good that he couldn't remember the name. Let's see Timorean MIT professor, which I personally was proud that we have in my tea professors listening and emailing and he says he's a rebels fan living in Boston. That may be he wants to go to the game at Foxboro. And he's thinking of taking one of the revs provided buses says he has no problem with ribs fans outside of the ninety minutes. But he doesn't want to step on any toes. What do you guys think about a way fans traveling on team buses? This is a challenge. It is. I think it's okay. Yeah. I think it's just a matter of the fans that you're traveling with. I mean, it sounds to me like Tim Murphy is not it's gonna roll onto the bus already with a few adult beverages in you know, chanting flag. You know, why why? Because my professor he just says that he gets along with ribs fans. I just don't feel like he's going to want to make sure we're not typecasting MIT. Probably. No. I also have no problem with that. I think I've been in similar situations. The one thing I would warn about is those those pesky Boston fans not you did spend quite a bit of your formative years Boston. And quite a bit of it being a fan of team Boston fans, don't like any advice on how to avoid conflict there. No. 'cause I never did so failed Simon union. I would I would if I'm a red bulls fan I would not want to touch let alone ride the buses that the Russians are writing. I mean, a real red bulls fan solely buses there. But there's no other. Bus out there. So he doesn't really. Going back and forth. Those third dollar buses ball he's not saying from New York to Boston. He's saying from the city of Boston to the stadium to get to the gain in my two in Boston. Very puzzled here. That's he's saying to get to red bull arena the road. And yes. He says I want to go to the game. At Foxboro come on reading, comprehension thinking reading, this is this really. What do you mean? Issue. Adelaide australia. He's heard talk about donuts. He says Simon must've forgot. You know, I'm going to butcher this here. Gimme how many either your prostate? See or does this picture lie? He sent a picture of a truck that sells posted he's having the conference finals. But I need you before you got to explain posted see Simon the way you sway to me. I like we have to go to the multi center of America here in New York City and get some of this. I'm still working on removing from my body right now I've had him years ago. It's your their delight. They're absolutely a'delicate delicate Maltese delicacy. It's flaky pastry. All right. You rather talk on the inside of the flaky pastry buttered pastry, by the way. Pastry? And the butter is what makes them so naturally, you can either get different types. You can get either Ricardo cheese in one. And it's cooked very delicious. Then there's peas in Maltese called possessively. And that one is this because it's not just Ps. It's there's also some flavor their season. So this isn't sweet took a savory sweet. Okay. This was dinner for me for a lot of every Sunday might tradition was to we go get the family the family. That's right now, we'd go get twenty four. Stasi? No, everyone done. We get in time. Just at eight o'clock before the Italian recap show of all the games, and everyone knew not to touch that bag of twenty four Pacific before I came and organized it and I had my little a little play no crumb with. I would literally. Every from off the table. Oh, wow. To see really I am. I really want some posting. I'm not gonna lie. I'll find a way to get some maybe this week in almost Plath games to watch. But you certainly have international soccer to hit on as well as US games on Friday and Tuesday, we'll be on Monday to preview that Tuesday game and wrap up this Columbia friendly for our guests Rubio Ruben and Claudio Raina for the guys Simon Borg, David Goss. "Playoff. Do explain on the curses site. So what makes a curse more? I don't know. What the right word is here. Because in our outlining the person who lives the curse the curse really exists hasn't even taken effect yet. Anything happened to the red bull since Becky has been on your prime. Now, actually they beat KC two zero did. But Brad fill dating get the record. He fell short of he tied it, but he didn't get it. You don't we had some some real anger on Twitter, some real gnashing of tweet Breteler film. So I think that's how we should in the show. How do we feel about Brad Wright Phillips being tied for the Moscow? Russia had the penalty, by the way, speaking of late penalties. How would that? How would that have gone down? Yeah. If Newark rebels got that penalty at the end of the game in Kansas City, and he breaks the record on a penalty he had gone down. How would that have gone down? I think there would have been a lot of people out there that would have grown unfortu-. Lisa Bradley had a great season. People would have set all well that that that's fitting, isn't it gets from tier and he gets from the spot and that's outta great season. He's been magnificent. And this is not just paying lip service tell yeah. His we were called cowards magic. It was cowardice. We showed cowardice which I failed understand. But hey, I don't always understand everything's. There was we're gonna get into in a second a lot of molested into a lot of national team to get into. We're going to have two great guests in Joe Jau, and the owner of the Joe Joe of the US national team and the owner of the Columbus Crew, Anthony Precourt Paixao, Columbus Crew, very much in the news because of an event that happened that involved the man you heard at the start of the show. He's Frankie hated and ex US national teamer, and I still can't get over the performance. He put on the Columbus Crew. They unveiled a new brand identity on Wednesday. And he was. Was he wasn't the MC even they had Brian come into the MC and Frankie Hejduk revealed himself to the nation. I had no clue. This was Frankie Hejduk. I knew he was a surfer, dude. As a player. I had no clue. This was Frank eighty. He is the ultimate MLS hype. Man, I say he is out of straight outta WWE. I can't get over Frankie Hejduk. Hello, david. Hi. How are you more? Thank you hate ACC. And you guys are battling for them. Everyone's battling Toronto are battling for their lives. They're on life support Toronto. See they lost one nothing at home. A man out debilitating loss against the Houston dynamo who you thought that he's not down and out. Jermaine Defoe with a chance to equalise on a penalty kick, he fails to convert that's to me akin to rice and bully of the Philadelphia union, the DP go keypad brought in basically costing huge talking point.
