"But it's one second, I get that Instagram accounts do that because the real algorithmically gets more people to look at it, but you can't, if you put if you put a real that's one second on your Instagram story, you repost it and you share it. No one can see it because it is appears after a second. I absolutely hate that. If you're going to make it a real, it's a static picture. At minimum, at minimum. Just make it a 15 second static picture. It'll make it one second so that it lasts a little bit when you share it with your Friends. You know what I'm saying? Okay. Anyway, 24/7 sports said this on Instagram, what a week for Mario Cristobal. He flips a kid from Clemson, something that Miami hasn't done since dabba Sweeney took over as the Clemson head coach. He flipped a kid sent from Georgia. So a kid committed to Georgia and then decided Miami instead, something Miami hasn't done since Kirby smart to go were probably something Miami hasn't done in a long time longer than that, I would think. He also landed a top prospect that IMG academy, a kid that usually ends up in the SEC. So recruiting wise, Mario Cristobal. Is doing outstanding and Miami now has the number 8 recruiting class in the country. Wow. Hey, I don't know a lot of people are talking about the new Oregon head coach is awesome. Now, the PAC 12 is crumbling and it looks like the pack falls going to dissolve entirely. But I don't know how the new organ coach is going to do, but I'm excited for the Mario Cristobal era in Miami. And I just hope they do well. I really want to see Miami, get back on the map and do really, really well.

"It was horrible. Maybe so mad. Adam Jones had a, he's like a all star every year. Love the guy, he's incredible. Seattle got rid of him. Seattle has had so many great players over the years. Alex freaking Rodriguez. Adam Jones, Ken griffey junior, it goes on and on and on and they don't keep these people because they can't pay them. They're cheap and it's frustrating. So I guess I'm rambling now, but I just am sharing my hatred and sadness and disdain actually for the Mariners organization and how I refuse to get excited about this team. The day that it happens where this young, awesome prospect in Seattle. Goes to the Red Sox or the Yankees. I'm going to look at my Friends and say, hey man, I'm not going to gloat. Do you want to hug? I'm really sorry. I'm really sorry that what I said was going to happen all along ended up happening. I played like a character of a guy who hates the Mariners, but I also do kind of hate the merits. I really, they broke my heart so many times as a tiny child. CBS sports put this on Instagram. Let's hear if you agree. They said superlatives. I hate that word, but they called it the NFL position group superlatives for 2022. They said the best offensive line in the NFL is the Philadelphia Eagles. I totally agree with that. The best offensive skill players. Cincinnati, Jamar chase, tea Higgins, Tyler Boyd, yeah? I agree with that, actually. The best defensive front, the Pittsburgh Steelers. That's TJ watt. That's a bunch of, yeah, I actually agree with that too. The best defensive backfield, the Green Day packers. I don't actually, is that right? Who else could it be in the NFL right now? Best defensive back. Who's got the best, the best group of, I think, and I think what that means really is the best

"Question number one from Patreon today. Jeff boyardee writes in. And he says, hi Zach, how are things going your first few weeks out on the road? My question is, did you watch the USFL championship game? And what were your thoughts on the season? I know you didn't cover it, but if he followed it at all, I'm curious to know how you felt about the league as a whole. I followed it all year and from the first game up until the championship, I thought even the quality of play, of course, wasn't the NFL level, but there were still a lot of good things the league did write and provided a ton of great quality football. I am stoked for season two to come in 2023 cheers. Thank you, Jeff Boyer. I love your name. The truck is going well. I'm finally getting settled in to like how to work in this environment. I've done on the road a lot. I house at a farm. Go watch, look at my Instagram. I've been like all over the northwest. It's been crazy. Like I said a second ago, I'm staying at my Friends. Guest room, I'm actually really not. Like I've been there like for it's the default place I sleep when I have nowhere else to sleep, but I've been visiting friends all over the place. My family, my grandparents. I housed at a farm for week and a half. I've just been doing my thing, man. I've been running around. The truck's going well. I'm having a good time. I am really, really eager to get the stupid Canopy because I hate going in and out of houses. I can't wait to just be entirely in the truck full-time. Now, the USFL. I watched a bit of the USFL championship game, and then I turned it off at some point. No, I think I saw the end of it is what I saw. I was busy doing something else. Oh, it's on. I watched the end of it live. I didn't care to replay and watch the whole thing. Then I would later watch the highlights on YouTube. It was fun. It was cool. The USFL championship game, let's say this first, the Birmingham stallions beat the Philadelphia stars 33 to 30. It was a good game. What I saw, the fourth quarter was interesting and fun. KJ Costello played, he played at Stanford, and then Mississippi stayed in the air raid for Mike leach. He didn't do great, but he threw a touchdown, had an interception. It was fun to watch the guy play like at all. Now, so the game itself, good time, respect it. The league itself as a whole,

"Am here with Alicia Silverstone, who you probably heard her name from her acting career. But in this episode, we go deep on motherhood and health and birth and sunlight and sleep and a lot of topics that are applicable to all of us. And as you might guess, if you know much of her, at least and I come from different viewpoints on the particulars of what we eat. And I think this conversation is actually really important for that reason. In that, we talk about as moms. We actually agree on 98% of things, and that often it's easy, especially on social media, to focus on the small percentage of things we disagree about. But we all want the best health and the best futures for our kids and for the world. And we find a lot of really amazing common ground in this episode and talk about a lot of these topics. And I really enjoyed this conversation. I know you will too. So let's join Alicia Silverstone. Alicia Silverstone. Welcome to the podcast. Thank you so much. I'm so excited to chat with you today. And I have a lot of specific questions, but I think to start off, I'd love to hear a little bit about your journey into the health and wellness and now motherhood worlds and what that looked like for you. My journey into the health and wellness world. Where does it all begin? I have been on this journey for a very long time. I started really back when I was 8 doing what I like to call in my book the kind diet I call it flirting. I had a sense that there was something I didn't want to harm animals and I had a sense that I needed to make changes about my diet so that I would align with my principles of not harming animals. But as I, as I grew, you know, by the time I was 21, I became fully plant based because of this commitment. I really saw how animals were raised and treated for food. And I would be laying, I would be snuggled with my dog that I had rescued and feeling his legs. And realizing that his leg felt a lot alike, a chicken breast, it felt I would feel those bones and or even like a wing and it all just felt so much the same. And it started to make me really sorry, there's dogs going crazy. Do I need to remove you guys? So I found myself really starting to become clear that the thing that I loved, I was actually responsible for harming. And so what happened? I didn't know when this happened because I made this choice for the animals. What happened to my body was so profound for me because I was on an asthma inhaler. I had allergy shots twice a week. I had acne and I had low energy and, you know, the things that you struggle with when you're 19. And I started to really feel different. Now I'm 20, I think I'm 21 at this point when I made the choice. All of a sudden my skin cleared up. I had no more acne. I was walking around feeling so much more clear about my life. I could hear it because all the gunk that was filling me up, all that all that toxic sludgy food that was weighing me down was gone. And so now I was starting to walk free or lighter. I could hear my truth more clearly. What I needed, what I wanted. I remember people used to say, just listen to your body. And I'd be like, what do you mean listen to my body? But now I understood my body would speak to me. It would tell me what I needed. I could go into my heart very easily and hear what it needed. So anyway, I had a huge health transformation. The eyes, my whites of my eyes got really strong, my nails. I mean, white, my nails got really, really thick and strong, my hair got really thick and strong. Like everything about my outward appearance and my inner feeling changed. And I no longer needed this medicines that I was dependent on. So this made me really look into it. And this made me very curious. This choice that I made, which I thought I was just experiencing good karma. You know, that I'd stopped harming these creatures and so now I was being rewarded and thank God for them because my body slimmed up. I mean, everything got better. But what I started to do research because honestly, I no longer needed medicine. I no longer needed the medicine that I was taking. I no longer felt dependent on this sort of owie, something hurts, fixed me, give me a pill. I started to understand that I had the power with my food to make those changes. And so I started researching it because I thought, well, this is really strange, you know? And I started to understand that Bruce Lee and Naruto lova and all these amazing athletes were making these choices for performance, not because they cared about animals. They were doing it for better health that are performance. And I started to look at Harvard studies, all the science and medical journals that showed that eating a plant based diet was so healing and so nourishing. So that's why I wrote the kind diet because I really wanted to put all of this information and these so that people can make decisions for themselves that if you don't know you don't know, right? But if you know, then you can decide if it's interesting to you or not. And so I made the kind diet a really good example of here's what this food is. Here's what this food does to your body. According to this science, the science in the science. And here's what it does to the earth. And here's what it does to animals. And now you decide. You can decide how much or how little you want to take in of this. This is what it did for me. This is what it did for others. My friend who had MS cured herself completely changing her diet. People with cancer, cured themselves with their diet, people with heart disease, all of these things, even just bad migraines. That was the other thing I had was really bad migraines. They all went away. Anyway, that's my journey. And then somewhere along the line I decided to make vitamins and because here I was being this really health conscious person and I was pregnant with my son and I didn't like vitamins. I thought they were really toxic to the liver and you know that they were unnecessary, really. And I ate so clean at this point. I ate organic food and plant based and just not really processed food very much only as a treat. So I couldn't really understand why I would take a vitamin, what would I need it for? And the midwife said to me, you know, what about the days when you're traveling or you can't get your hands on the things you want? Wouldn't it be a good sort of insurance policy and I was sold on insurance policy. So I went looking and she said she recommended a brand and then I knew about some other brands that were the healthiest on the market at the time. But what I found was none of them had clean ingredients. They were all, you know, none of them were certified organic. None of them were non GMO verified. Lots of them were filled with chemicals. Some of them were filled with good food and then surrounded by chemicals. So it was like, here's some food, and then we're going to put it in a bag of chemicals. So I just thought, wait, what's going on? I can't put something in my body that is less good than the food that I choose. You know, and this was coming off of having written the kind diet, written the kind mama, Kai mama, helps mommies get pregnant. People boost their fertility. You know, have a really sweet birth, know your birth options, so you can make the best choice for your family, knowing, again, just having information. If we don't have information, how do we make these best choices? So just putting all the information in one place and really organized fashion. So now we have these vitamins and so basically what happened was I couldn't bear to take anything that was on the market. Nothing was good. And I went, so I decided I had to make it. So I went looking for a partner. I had this idea and I went asking people who would want to do this with me and I partnered with garden of life and we co created together my kind organics based on the principles that I just described that we have to put something on the market that's clean for people, certified organic, non GMO verified, all food based, no fillers, and no binders. And so that's what we did. And that's.

"He's just ten points away from a three race buffer right now it stands it like two races and podium. Margin right sean. Zarko is sixty nine back in third and the picco bag seventy out in fourth. So you've got sixty five sixty nine and seventy for all three of those riders mir sarko and bagai then jack miller. He needs a massive amount of help. Ease trailing by eighty eight points back in fifth but let's just focus on fabio compared to mir sarko and back night. Because you might think at this point. Yeah that's a big lead. But they're still a lot of races left to run and there are a lot of things could happen and it for two could change everything in the motogp championship race but as things stand right now when we start to do the math the picture starts to become a little bit more clear exactly where we are. There are six races. Left mir petco and zarko need to gain on average a little over eleven points per race. Every single race moore needs to gain eleven points on fabio quadra row from here to the end and he'll be one point ahead coming out of valencia. That means that if one of those guys only one. It can't work that all of them do this. But if one of those riders wins every single round from here on out and for the sake of argument. Let's pick the guy who's closest right now. So joanne mir who sixty five points back if he wins every single race from here to the end of the season then fabio can alternate between third and fourth finishing third and fourth every round. And he still wants the title so he doesn't even need the podium in every race and he can lock himself in no matter what. Joe amir does even if he goes out and wins every single race and that of course applies to the other riders as well but. I think that all of us can agree. That one of those riders is not going to go out and win all of the final six races right. So let's say that one of those guys averages a second place finish which would still be really good really hard to do well at that point because remember they need to make up a minimum of eleven points per race so if one of these writers averages a second place finish from here on out that means they'll be scoring on average twenty points per race. They need to gain eleven. So that means that all bobbio needs to do is score nine points per race from here on out. That's an average finish of seventh. And they can't catch him. So you see where i'm going with this now right. I'm and if any of those riders averages maybe third place result well then fabulous target number drops all the way down to eleventh so anywhere in the top ten in any race and he's completely safe so any of them could theoretically podium every race from here on out and needs to do is kind of be in in the middle of the top ten rider to win the title. But i think we all know. He's racing better right now than just an average top tim writer now. Of course all of this is assuming no. nfc for fob. it's also assuming d-fs for the other guys as well. So what i'm trying to say here is it's not over but it's gonna be really really tough with all those guys trailing by sixty five points or more with only six races left in the season. The chasers need quite a bit of help right now. From fabio kwacha. Ro so that's where the championship picture stands at this point. Now let's talk about the weekend as a whole and my take on the british. Gp imagine what a wild weekend on and off the track but not necessarily for the reasons you'd expect. I'd actually say that moto to offered the best racing of the day. Moto three was the most forgettable and mo- gp is the one that everybody is going to be talking about because of fabio because of appropriate both of them on track because of the championship battle. And of course because of the andrea co so buzz off the track in the garage. So i am definitely looking forward to some better scrapping at the front and aragon but as far as dramas concerned silverstone definitely provided in spades. That's my take on the british. Gp what did you think of. The race will leave your comments on facebook and write it and we'll talk about them on the full show later in the week long with the latest motor. Gp news a lot of discussion about andrea cosell. And of course a lot more. Although i will tell you guys that next weekend is a long weekend here in the united states and for the first time in like two years two plus years two and a half years. I'm going on vacation. It's kind of crazy Just for a couple of days but because of that. I anticipate that wednesday show is going to be a little bit shorter than normal and then i'm coming back on monday so i'm going to be scrambling to get the show done by wednesday. The preview aragon. I'm hopefully going to have the entire thing done. It may be one day late. We might get that show right before the press conference has happened. But i'll do my best. I just wanted to warn you in advance but one way or the other. We're gonna talk about andrea the video so this week and we're definitely gonna preview aragon next week So to which miss a single episode of the program but because schedule could be a little wonky in the next couple of days. "The pre race show. I thought it could be an opportunity for alex. Rin's to get back on the right track. But even i didn't expect quite this much of a turnaround out of wren's after a thoroughly forgettable season up to this point alex must channeled some of his two thousand seventeen performance scoring his first podium of the air in what was a largely uneventful ride but by far his best effort of the entire season but while things were kind of boring mr ins there was plenty of action surrounding the rider behind him in this race. Alley spa grow. I can't even imagine the range of emotions for allie chicago from the beginning to the end of this race at one point running one two with his brother. Poll them battling with wins and the miller at the end and not knowing if he was even going to finish on the podium at all when it came down to it ally had his best race of the season this was the best race of his entire moto. Gp career barnen. I don't know if anybody has asked ally that question yet but hey they should be. I will be shocked if he didn't say it was the best race of his entire motor. Gp career. I mean he thought right down to the final corner against a fierce competitor in jack miller to hold him off score. Probably as i ever motogp podium. And i think the thing that impressed me. The most outside of alice's tenacity at the end was the bikes ability to get out of the corner. And you know it's very interesting because before the race started. The commentators were talking about a conversation that they had with alyssa's fargo where he said that because the motor is underpowered. Right now that he can kind of has to get on the throttle really early in the corner to be able to make up the difference in horsepower and you could clearly see that in the battle with jack bike with launch itself from the apex off the corner faster than the do coty now of course on a big long stretch. The takada always going to have a huge top. End advantage over the apprecia- but at this particular track where a lot of these corners were going on the streets. That weren't long enough for the cadi to exploit its top end advantage in those types of corners in those types of areas of the track. The fact that the approach is underpowered. In la she had learned to ride the specific way actually gave him a big advantage over because he could get that jumping needed to prevent miller from early setting him up coming out of one corner and then going into the next corner so it was a lot of fun to watch and it was awesome from allah. Saad to see both the effort and then the celebration afterwards and with both the new engine. Aah maverick penola is on the way before the end of the season. There's a lot obviously for appropriate to look forward to but how things happen. Today was the way that it should've happened. It was really awesome that la. She was the one to be able to get the first podium. He was the writer that put in all the work. He was the writer that wanted to be there when literally. Nobody else wanted to be on that bike. He was the one who believed in the program when nobody else wanted to be on that bike and so he deserves to get this podium. It's much more fitting than if maverick adobe or whatever other writer they were gonna go after had come in and accomplished ship i so it was fitting. It was a fantastic race for him. And it really was illegitimate and this wasn't like a gimme and the rain or somebody wrecked in front of him. I mean ally chicago thought from start to finish in this race to get that podium and it was proof positive that the apprently akanbi fast enough from start to finish. Now you can say okay. Well marc marquez. Took out who martine and because of that you had to other legitimate podium contenders that didn't make it to the end of the race so we really don't know yeah but stuff like that happens every race. My point is is that those guys didn't wreck out of first and second or second and third with a lap and a half to go like allies had to put in the lap times. He had to make the bike make it to the end and he was able to do that. So it's not just a podium for. It's the podium. That really wanted to get if that makes sense to anybody but now there are a bunch of other writers that deserve mention from this race. Both good and bad. I will start with jack miller at one point. Looked like he might suffer the same fate as his team at back. Bacchanalian just drift back in the pack. But he made a fantastic late race. Push to get all the way up to fourth and nearly get on the podium. It wasn't the finishing needed in the championship but it was still a good race nonetheless up for elliot's brother polo spago. How exciting. what's it to see him not just on the pole for this race but leading with his brother running second and then of course running second to his brother for a little bit as well even though he ended up missing out on the podium and this one it was by far his best race on a honda and a big momentum. Builder going home to spain for the next round it was really the race that both pole and repsol honda needed then over with. Ktm abroad bender had a nice rebound to finish sixth in this one after starting twelfth but it was his ktm stablemate eaker lackawanna. That really deserves the recognition. In my book. It was his best motogp finish. Ever and his best g. p. race ever coming home seventh after starting eighteenth passing a lot of really good riders along the way performances like this earlier in the season may have had him in line for a petronas spike alongside of andrea da vinci. Also in the in fact. I'm not sure that they shouldn't still be considering. Eager laguna for that other bike. Then on the other side of the token we've got joanne mir who looked promising early. But finished ninth ninth on a day when fabio quad sharara win out and completely dominated and his teammate also proved that this is yuki was fast enough to finish on the podium. Beer just wasn't and there was a huge uncharacteristic fade for him and suzuki. For that matter. At the end it was pretty much a worst case. Scenario for mir as we'll talk about here in a moment but while it was pretty much worse case for joanne it was absolutely worst case. Scenario for petco back nyein this one who was also shadowing the podium guys early and then unlike jack who had that late race surge on the medium front tyre the soft that petco decided on when completely away at the end leaving him fourteenth at the flag and that is really really bad for his title hopes and joins arkham then new much better. He was eleventh so it was not a good day to be a championship contender. Not named fabio koch harare. So you're putting him in this one. Fabio scores his fifth. Victory of the season comes in dominant fashion as he's looking more and more like the next mode. Gp world champion. Alex rinse finishes second his first podium of the year a big momentum boost for both him and the team then rounding things out aleisha spa grow and historic first motogp podium for provia the absolutely raced his heart out for it and who was there. Was somebody on reddit. That heading into the weekend was like you know what now that. They announced that they've signed. Maverick vignon as i bet you anything. Allies chicago is going to go out. And i can't remember if they said win a race or get on the podium. But i think they even said at silverstone. I'm going to go back and look at that but whoever it was post because you totally nailed it if he said when you almost nailed a close enough for me at least and also how about the fact that all six manufacturers occupied one of the six top spots in this race a testament to not just how hard each of those manufacturers have worked to be competitive but the level of talent right now emoji p they. Each one of those manufacturers has a guy who's capable of finishing top six in motogp erase. So that's what happened on sunday and that brings us to the motive gp championship and this is where things get very interesting with the whim. Like i mentioned earlier. Fabio is now up by sixty five points over joanne mir..

"Three guys in front of him are headed to mow. Gp next season. The path is incompletely open. Because there's some other writers that are gonna be good next year and of course we could have. Pedro costs coming in the moto to as well but he has a very good shot if he can be consistent a being championship contender sam lows. So i think that stretch that he's in right now. Is maybe laying the foundation for a run next year because it's not getting any younger and he's not going to have to many more. These opportunities left. And then i also wanna talk about raul fernandez. And i feel really bad for row will because as a rookie and motoo. He's really only made two mistakes. But both of those mistakes have been really really big. I in germany now in silverstone fernandez wrecks out on the same exact day. That remmy gardner wins. And that's been the entire difference between those two guys in the championship because those two races have netted a fifty. Point swing for emi gardner and he leads the championship by forty four. So those two mistakes are what the entire season is all about now for our fernandes. You can't follow them. I mean he's young. He's gonna make a mistake now and then he's just been terribly unlucky this year about where those mistakes have been placed some your podium in this one remmy gardner with his fourth victory of the year one of his best rides of the season and this one could turn out to be a critical moment in the championship. Run for him. Marco balletti finishes second a fantastic run himself but just one spot short making up desperately need a ground in this multitude auto race them random things out navarro his first podium and a really long time and much needed confidence boost for him as well. Now's we take a look at the motor to championship. What a big big win for. Remmy gardner and i think he realized that when he was in park for may celebrating with the team he leaves silverstone with a forty four point. Lead in the ryder standings overall fernandez after entering the weekend up by nineteen. So that alone is going to happen. Feeling with more confident coming out of this round. But he also of course increases leaders zakia as well despite marco having a fantastic race he drops a few points to minus fifty two in third. Then sam lowes one hundred and four points back followed by the rest of the field. None of those guys have realistic shot in the moto two championship right now. So raul fernandez is not out of this but he needs a few missteps from gardner to really get back into things and remmy simply hasn't made any big mistakes now. There's still plenty of racing left though so don't go engraving anyone's name on the trophy quite yet. But garner is in firm control. And after say around. Or maybe two rounds. We're going to start doing that math. And finding out what he needs to do to be able to guarantee that he's going to win the moto two championship. The time is now for owl fernandez. He has to make his aim winning as many races from here on out his mindset has to be the win every race from here on out. That's probably not going to happen but that has to be as mindset to try to put the pressure on miami gardner and see if he's even capable of making a mistake. This year comes up with what i thought was a very good race with modo. Gp crank the heat up another notch. A wide open field. We'll find out next all right. So let's wrap up. Our discussion of sunday's british gp at silverstone here on the mojo week post ratio by talking about the premier class moto gp. Where not only did we have action on track. But we had some action off the track as well The yamaha drama kicked in the high gear. First thing sunday morning with unofficial confirmation from lynn jarvis at yamaha that andrei video so is coming back to the motor. Gp grid this season now. We'll talk about this on the full show later on in the week and i am really really looking forward to your comments and opinions on this situation but the plan is in this. According to lend jarvis and confirmed by other members of the yamaha management that everything is going to go as rumored last week. Franken morbidelli is gonna make the move to the factory team at me sato so not arrogant but misano and then andre the video so is gonna take over. Franco's petronas bike starting that same weekend through the end of the year. At which point he'll carry on fulltime in the twenty twenty two and it was confirmed just before the motor. Gp race that he will be given a factory bike by omaha. Which was something that we weren't quite sure because the rumor said initially. That yamaha was only going to give the rt team to be spent bikes. But it looks like they're gonna at least get a full factory bike for andrea toronto. So more huge news from yamaha but there was a race that happened sunday to and. I'm pretty sure that dobie was liking what he saw this race. Since the that he's going to be writing next season was absolutely dominant at silverstone. In the hands of bobbio charro. I mean just a blistering ride shades of hey lorenzo in his prime getting out in front early on in this case for fabio about four and a half laps in and then just building a big lead in sensually crushing. Everybody else's hopes of getting up to the front and trying to make something happen so it was a fantastic race and massive in the championship as well but was only half the story sunday because just as big as bob ios absolute dominance of this race was getting their first ever moto g p podium with aleisha spago holding off and intense last lab charge from jack miller definitely when it comes to action on track. That was the highlight of the race. Both of those guys clearly wanted to finish on the podium but allies fighting as hard as he ever has to attack back on the do coty and capture that landmark podium like i said that was the highlight action wise. And we'll talk more about that in the moment. There were so many storylines coming into and heading out of this race. So let's break it down by starting at the very top with the rider who absolutely dominated fabrio quad sharara. And what can you say about his performance except that it was big like really big not only beating the rest of the field so decisively but big in the championship. Now we'll talk about his main challengers here in a moment but suffice to say they didn't do well at exactly the wrong time for themselves and exactly the right time for bobbio who ends up not just with the trophy at the end of the day but a massive hall of points ballooning his overall lead to sixty five. And we'll do the math here a little bit later. But that's kind of my point. We're getting to the stage now where other writers are going to have to do some serious math to figure out what they need to do. If they wanna have a chance to catch fabio quattro. It was a stunning performance and a potential turning point in the two thousand twenty one gp championship. And i haven't started thinking about you. Know the end of the year awards in december but definitely fabio quad. Harare at silverstone is going to be a nominee for the win of the year because at a critical time in the championship. He went out and just blistered. The competition great day for him but he wasn't the only one. I thought that this race could be an opportunity..

"The side benefit of that is that he has the room quietly develop into a really good writer. And that's exactly what he's doing. He's using the season to start to get better and next year. He's going to be somebody that we really need to keep an eye on so great ride for him. Also great ripe. For totski suzuki getting back into the top five with that talk that he's headed to lay apart honda next year which would be a big for him. So you're putting them in this one romanova naughty his first win of the air his third podium in the last four races and also takes back a big chunk points in the riders standings. Which will talk about here. In a moment niccolo antonelli finishes second a brilliant effort to come back very strong from that injury. A couple of rounds ago then dennis fauji around things out continuing to look stronger as we go on here in the second half of the season and check this out for noddy and antonelli are two of the old guys when it comes to moto. Three and fauji is somewhere in the middle. The average age of this moto three podium. Twenty three point three years old. That's only one year behind the average age of the podium finishers emoji p in the second australian round and it's actually older than the average age of the motor g. p. podium in the first austrian round right so it's dole score one for the old guys a. Moto three and how crazy is it. How much young talent there is right now in motor. Gp all right so. Let's take a look at the moto three championship. Where pedro cost despite his poor finish actually increases his overall lead. Thanks to sergio garcia getting bumped outside the points by cost of course but the league is now up to forty six over sergio. Romano finale does take a big chunk back but he needs even more. He's still sixteen nine points back in third and then foggia is a distant eighty-three out now. A cost does need to step up but if he can get that lead over the fifty point margin in aragon. Then he's going to be really really tough to beat with to race margin in his back pocket and only five races left in the season at that point. I'm so motor. Three was decidedly non traditional as far as motari races. Go especially at attrac- as big in slipstream as silverstone so with modo to bring the excitement instead. We'll talk about the middle class next back to the moto week. Post ratio for round twelve of the world championship. The british cheat silverstone. I'm wilson and now we're gonna talk about the middle class. And if i could give a standing ovation i would right now. Way to go motoo. Four riders at the front a good fight for the lead and then separate battle for the final spot on the podium. We got some championship drama. Thrown in just about everything you could ask for in a series that sometimes is a little follow the leader here and there. This went all came down to a bit of a standoff between garner and marqaba zaki first and third in the championship. Those guys road really hard scrapping back and forth in this one for the win but in the end remmy gardner could not be stopped. He could not be outpaced again. And it wasn't just. That remmy was fast in this one. He was just so incredibly consistent with his lap. Times i mean marco. Possession was trying everything he could possibly think of. I mean he even got side by side with gardner a couple of times but remmy held strong. He wasn't flustered by the challenge. He just kept the pace up and he didn't make any mistakes and immediately after the race. Simon crave are talked to team owner akihito. And i really think that a ho said it best. He said that remedy is mentally strong. And he's right about that and not only is that going to be a critical component in his quest to win a motive to title this year. But it's also going to serve him very well next year. Emoji p was fantastic ride and all the bigger coming off of two disappointing races at his manufacturers home track in austria actually sponsors home track in austria not as manufacturer yet. That of course comes next season and it was made even bigger by the fact that his teammate and maim rival raul fernandez wrecked out in this one so we couldn't have asked for too much more when it comes to the championship battle in silverstone but it was just as fantastic of an effort in my opinion from the guy who finished second marco becky. He gambled on the software. Your tire and everyone thought it was going to drop off at the end but it didn't. He made it work. Even though the commentators were trying to write them off multiple times instead he was able to keep pace with ramey all the way up until the final few laps where he just lost maybe tenth here and attempt. They're making small mistakes and then he tried just a little too hard on that last lap to try to make it all up at once and because of that he didn't get one last shot to take the fight to remedy garner for the win. Still an excellent effort. Unfortunately it doesn't help him at all in the championship auto because the only guy the beat him was the guy ahead of him in the points. But that definitely should not take away from the fact that it was an excellent effort for marco possession. This i'm jorges. Navarro was another hard charger in this one fighting with hometown favorite. Sam lowes for that final spot on the podium. Very difficult writer to pass especially under those circumstances in front of the british fans but navarro was able to do it scoring his first podium in a really long time. Last time he was on the box was valencia of two thousand nineteen. There haven't been many highlights for him this season but sunday's performance certainly has to leave him feeling a little bit more confident heading on into arrogant. Now the flip side of that battle was sam. Louis who i'm sure wanted so badly to celebrate on the podium with the british fans now that racing was finally back in the uk but unfortunately it just wasn't meant to be and it also wasn't a good enough finish to help him in the championship either. But that doesn't mean it was a bad day. Because he was legitimately and podium contention all the way down to the end of this race and after that disastrous stretch that squashed his title hopes early on. He's slowly recovering to form with fourth place. Finish now in three of the last four rounds he'd rather be back on the podium and i know that he'll get there eventually but this was still a good race to establish more of that foundation that he is a top four rider in moto two but more importantly that he can string together a stretch of races where he's either on or just off the podium and that's what he struggled with not just this season but really his entire career and now knowing that gartner amro fernandez markle zaki..

"All of the latest episodes there. You could follow on twitter at moda week and on instagram at week. Usa and with everything that happened over the weekend. I am definitely looking forward to your comments that we can talk about on the full show later on this week. So leave the comments on facebook at facebook dot com slash motta week dot net or over on the right at are slash modo week. And if you do want to support the program you can overrun patriot. Patriot dot com slash motorway. All right so we will begin. Our discussion of the british. Gp by talking about motive here in just a couple of seconds all right. So let's kick off our discussion of sunday's british gp silverstone by talking about moto three. And you'll after the intensity and the excitement of the austrian gp this moto. Three race was pretty tame in comparison. Our ramona fanatic dominated all of the sessions throughout the weekend and then he did exactly the same thing. Once the lights went out for the race thing started with a three bike breakaway. including of course finale. Along with niccolo antonelli and andrea amino But when you had a mechanical issue it then became those two remaining riders. Pretty much drinking off into the distance and very uncharacteristic motor three fashion. At least though. I mean not that i wanted to go out but at least with menial out. Then we got the added. Bonus of that trailing pack of six riders now battling for the final podium spot instead of best guy not on the podium at all but even that didn't pan out to be too much of a thriller a dentist fauji was pretty much in control of that group and by default in control of their place. Only getting a true challenge on the final app. From ethan guevara in fact the only real moto three style drama in this race came between championship. Leader pedro acosta and second-place man. Sergio garcia guys made contact multiple times battling for position with one another but the position that they were battling for was at the back of the points They qualified twenty second and twenty fourth. They never really made their way through the field. And so that was it. That was the real drama and excitement action in this race. Upfront pretty boring for everybody. Who wasn't named raimondo fanatic for him though. Fantastic weekend Capped off a brilliant race of course to the delight of the world feed commentators. Who oddly enough. We're less obsessed with finale when he was out in front dominating this one then they were with him last around when he wasn't even on the podium. I don't know But it was uneventful ride in the best possible way for amano fanatic. He was never challenged the entire race and he streaked off to the win. Now for nicolo antonelli helluva race to and he was the only rider in the same postal code as romano finale in terms of performance in this race and not only. Was it a really good race for niccolo antonelli it was impressive to. I mean you have to consider the fact that he missed the last two races and he still recovering from a broken right hand so it was a pretty uneventful race for him as well. He was actually able to hang right behind up until the final few laps but one way or the other even though he didn't get a real shot to challenge for the win. I think that he'll be very happy with that result after the injury after having to sit out not to mention. It's his first podium since all the way back in qatar so a rare bright spot the season for niccolo antonelli and then we get dennis foggia. Who like i talked about was the lead rider in that trailing pack that we're a couple of seconds behind antonelli and phonology and this was a really promising race for him because his up and down season to this point is starting to look more consistently on the upside. This is foggy as second straight podium. His fourth and five races and fifth out of the last seven and that stretch comes after scoring points and only one of the first five rounds so things are definitely moving in the right direction for him. He's back on the right track now. Probably too late to factor into the championship. I mean pedro. Kosta would have to have a lot more bad races but he solidly in the top five. He did a fantastic job battling the youngster. Ethan guevara on the final lap and most importantly he's got a lot of momentum built up for the end of the season and since this year is about nothing more than podiums and going after wins because the championship is out of the question. It's a good thing to have a little bit podium momentum built-up i'm speaking of the guy that he can't catch for the championship. Let's talk about pedro kosta because this was not a terribly good weekend for him started on the eighth row and then found himself battling the entire time to a simple stay in the points and be. Try to stay ahead of sergio garcia now. He accomplished both of those things but he also finished eleventh his worst result of the year at the exact time when he needs to be upping his pace not struggling. Then we'll see examples of that without giving too much away when we get to moto two and motor. Gp he's got to protect that championship lead. And you can't do that finishing outside the top ten now because sergio garcia didn't have a good day. This wasn't a disaster for kosta but he needs to make this an isolated event. He can't continue finishing outside the top ten and not expect people to start the catch him in the points heading toward valencia. Now of course. The good news for a costume is that. Sergio garcia was struggling even worse than he was an thanks to a late ryan by those guys about their third or fourth. I want to say of the race Sergio was punted out of line in out of the points entirely across upon a few corners of the race finishing a disappointing sixteenth which is terrible for the championship. Had a costume better. It would have been a complete disaster for sergio garcia of course if it costs from better than sergio chrissy might finished in the points but now the pressure is on because garcia has even more points to make up. They did coming into this race and he's got one less round to do it in and that's going to be a common theme that we talk about in motivation and emoji p. as well there are still racist left whole lottery says when you need to make up twenty thirty forty or more points on the guy who's in first place that kind of rapidly caves in around you if you can't make progress each and every round so just like a cost of needs to step up his game to protect the point lead for sergio garcia. It is imperative. You cannot have racist like this where you're on the bike. You don't have a major incident but yet you score zero points when you're chasing someone down in the championship. Pedro kosta can get away with that a couple of times. Because he's got the lead. But sergio garcia can ill-afford have any more mistakes from here on out. He pretty much has to be on the podium. And turn the pressure on. Make the rookie in a cost to make a mistake and a cost is not going to feel like he needs to be in a position to make a mistake. If you're running seventh or aether. Twelve or sixteenth. Out of the points entirely so garcia definitely needs to make his worst days far far better if he wants to get back into this points race on one other writer i wanted to talk about is ethan. Go veira definitely have to give him a nod in this one eight fantastic effort by the youngster to score his best finish ever and he's in a really really good place right now as far as i'm concerned because costa's taking all of the spotlight. He's the superstar rookie. And as much as i'm sure. Guevara would love to swap spots with him and be in the championship lead and be the superstar rookie himself..

"Wanna be flow. So do you think that the current silverstone circuit. I mean they. They have tightened up the club. Chicanery the current one which is a bit of a shame. Another c section start which quoted for overtaking be in terms of getting a real flow going in an older car. Do you think it's do you think is a good track. Well when i did the classic they. They didn't use the full current formula one grand prix layout layout they use this historic version. Which cut out the tight chicane placed it with a sweeping s. So you come stolen. Then you'd have a quick left. Roy and then you go. What is now the final corner so that helped actually with the flow because pretty much. All all of the latin was fast apart from ten to in three the new tight late which can't escape and obviously luffield. Everything else was fast. So i think the balance on that layout was just about right because you still have. You need some heavy braking zionist to encourage retaking in the the biggest. 'cause that isn't slipstreaming but you won't most of the track to be fast and flowing and wide because especially in the quick cars like chevron at five thousand you want to be able to unleash it as possible so you'd be quite upset if you're having to constantly on the brakes rather than on the throttle. What what do you think. Mark titus point frustrating. Because you can't see that mark the secretary one place although the stands between beckett's in the new leap is actually quite good. You can see them twice but from a from a competitive point of you oversee them. I guess there's lots of run off so that's quite good. So what will do d think the current historic guys. Mike give mike have silverstone histone pre trek or thing they go use to it more and more i think there's the elements that certainly the tights Bit the talking about that. Two in three whatever they call the loop it sector and adriana on so the onto the straight. They do tend to compress the field. They also tend to be an area of the circuit. Where mistakes made in the heat of battle which makes it quite exciting Go back to the days when i went to civil ninety. Sixty eight know that much about it. But in sixty seven i stood up. And you could see jim clark on his buddies coming out of Chapel onto the hang straight all the way down through the right handers so sliding climbdown through the right hander club up the hill through abby and you could see a guest early much off the circuits from that point and also from the points in the second you can probably see code so that was something that was very very different but some i think it suits. It suits sentence types of car and it doesn't really agree with some of the others but of course a couple of times in the history of the classic that being late changes in the in the way the sex gone including the time when the Msi it's i think the f. I stepped in and said well. You can't use that softened approach to club and everyone was geared to that they will whiting fashion dumb. Cross the very tight stop. It doesn't help literally older. 'cause see prewar costs here this weekend. And they'd prefer the much will of lenient approach the more balanced approach to But conrad is what it is. Isn't it and my point sort of sign. Well i wish we had that because we Another sign posts. They put in the Where we use the old abbey along sweeping anti That was the area just to that. When the schulz sort of straight up towards every was kind of punctuated by very tight. Chicane so you've actually stopped. Bente ninety degrees then turned back onto the get up over the brown under the bridge. Which again was annoying. But it kind of course Selling if there's not extra were taking place the place grow up if you Outbreak yourself Exciting usually the spectators but pretty close hand survival looking looking to track up there as well. I must admit that is one area of the audio mix is the old flat abby and then into breach as it was in the early bid nothing. Remember seeing some canam mclaren's thunder. Pass me there. God knows what they're doing what speed. They came past but imagine to be flat. Chat in a seven liter v. Eight canam called bridge which then falls away and goes around to the right would be a good test of good test of bravery if nothing else. That's the ceremony the quickest lungs. Now all right going bigger on camera at road. America in the states In nineteen ninety six years reunion so it kind of has a asymmetry with the With the classic here and i was standing on our close when remonstrance post It's a million regard of erica. Then there's a sort of a sweep up over a row of stop finish nine and a long long runs corner. She's a ryan anderson ninety ride. Marshall said hey sorry you count stand here because You wearing shorts said point is said. Well how's it going very fast here and if there's an accident you're going to be involved. I said my ditch up. I know that they're mclaren. Point was who's quickest. He's pulling two hundred and four miles an hour at the end of the strike such. I suspect that if you're in the next county you may still be involved so sure. It didn't really matter. Let's done their incredible thinks. Some of those kind of we'll see we'll see several ounce This weekend this you see callum lucky in the in the mall seven one seven They would help calinescu. Ding full will be out in jamie just mclaren and i wanted to other joining the thri as well. But some case in some off the circuit. they'll be absolutely range decree but not others. They'll be hamstrung by that that power and the little chevrons and lola's and although so the cause we love from that your liter era We'll be in realms that that was one of the things i was gonna sat. It about count layout. Is there enough twisty taught. Bits for the to lead to 'cause i was going to say. It seventies in the world sportscar monsters two liters versus those but it applies to the funds sports as well so they had quick at different parts of the track. I mean the race. That ben was very modest there. He was actually running third in the form. Lavar thousand chevron before it broke but he was running third to martin. Straighten solomon hatfield. Who are pretty reasonable in these cars. I think it's fair. Say mollison is in an hour and psalms in four thousand call and it to and fro around the lap. It was fantastic to war. So there's always that possibility as well when you got the different the different layout struggles on top form again. He's put a two a stripe g engineer in his so early. Kind of sixteen hundred type caught with a two liter engine Fashion brands hatch..

"I actually emphasize for those. That haven't been if you do like ads. Marcus says and i would agree with it. The highlights of the racing. You want to see the race is you won't have time for anything else because race on saturday starts at nine o'clock and he goes to twenty one races then wrapped sunday evening. So if you wanna do anything else you they have to decide which going to miss or come on friday when it's it's practicing qualifying and then you can get around the paddock and all and all the other things. I think that's right. That's absolutely correct. I think what's interesting is again Former the junior which likes to be In the In the old patrick behind would The fbi judge has has opted a gain for the early slot Which means you go to be that pretty prone sight to see them and unfortunately and if you're really close racing it probably going to be one of the best grades Over the weekend so we went to be that right o'clock Get your place and a Prepared to watch some stonking colombina. Junior actions cost sixty eight to sixty three Before you do anything else yeah ought to that because think regular listeners will know that my preference is for big hairy sports cars formula junior kind of the opposite to that and yet there have been a couple of times probably for years ago. Now remember back between Sam wilson and john malkovich the highlights. I would say of the of the intolerable because the good they have been brilliant. So i would definitely i mean if you not familiar from junior formula ford but a bit a bit older and cooler i think perhaps st- sabotage marks four runner raise the full full beach day except it's formula..

"Events of the year in the uk count well actually probably on the international historic calendar oversight. Took about silverton classic. Which i think they're calling the classic this year. Which will we'll get to that in a moment. Need to rebrand things Joining meal to special guests one of the first has covered this event for many many years and was covering well. I think the longest serving member of the old sport team. That's marcus i'm welcome. How all you could often kevin ben. Everybody yeah good. Thank you looking forward to this weekend. Civil stayed very much tripping going for many years as you say And like ben competed at event as well. So what's not to like really absolutely. Yeah it was It was missing from the last year for obvious reasons that we're not going to go into but certain back for this year i think we're we're all the police ballot and marked already hinted at my second special guest. He likes being called a special guests. I realized that from a previous podcast. He's appear on but he has indeed compete events. Ben anderson for gp racing. But also really. He's really on. Here's resident track tester and race in these days. So so how you doing. Ben yeah good thanks. Thanks for having me could see marcus again. It's been a long time has nonetheless still here. And forty fifth year on the magazine effect. Quick and very impressive to see all the bound volumes behind marcus unfortunately listeners. Who i'm glad to see. This is a very impressive display or do have quite a few in this room. But they're all piled on the floor and nothing like as organized this as marx's got behind the plate site which actually it is but what it could be reduced to in years to come. It's just a sort of a bull piper affect the If ever move house also sky down or something like that like pretend to have these are the real deal. You could take a picture and then just have it as you'll kind of pipe background forever. Yeah you could do that. Pretty good about them is that they they came a little came from a very famous racing driver They came from peach of bolton who writes the and tested new bed Kinds of bits and pieces and i drove. I had about two thirds of assets. And then i then i drove the of matt in the snow to In a in a high of transit. Which didn't have a lot of mechanical grit. Paper era arrived about five in the morning. Ed whenever it was drove to his house at loaded them over a couple of hours and then them back and faye helped me unload them under load them into the newly made. Show that previous house while cave. Maybe he could get marcus to build your shelf for your your bound. Volumes video spread across. Things don't need any despair wall somewhere for the shelves to go before we still talk. Show builder in. This household is stood out during our. It job well already. We've gone off pace which is a surprise to know nobody on this podcast for so we'll get we'll get back to the silver classic now. Marcus throaty you've done the the preview the magazine Which is out this week. Picking out some of the things that we can say this weekend but what are the highlights the things are you looking forward to this weekend. Well so for me. It's all about the racing man You know it. It's great that there's a wide spectrum stuff enthusiast of in general of road. 'cause collectors 'cause News ick out all the rest of it to go to but some i just love the the writing aspect of it always also enjoy. They add the sale and the social side. If i can get the eh but some Normally the the program is so relentless. That i can't get there. And besides if i get the on packages woefully inadequate so on average on a credit card. They're reasonably well clear Suddenly the migrant but someone dial there and all invest but now there's some fantastic pricing and it runs you know very solidly from nine o'clock Each day and goes on until nine in the evening on saturday so it really is going to be very spectacular again Let's hope the weather's with us But there's something everybody. That's the whole point of the classic. There's some tastic single seater racing some mega sports car racing And merdeka turing stuff as well so you know what whatever your preference there's something in the back you. Yeah just just to give some examples that we will see the prewar. Sports cars and so brooklyn celebration. The way up to raise the mazdas legend sports cars. Which really i mean. They're not historic cars. We're talking pershing. Nano manual calls aaron porsche. rs spider. Which i saw the morning two thousand and these are pretty. Recent cars are very quick and would blow away coffee contemporary not the historic yes. Perhaps perhaps that's fair. I mean that's just a sports to this. There's there's one phone sixties all the way through to this day era tin tops as well and bunga it to you now. Ben of wide range of events from one day club is when you when you drive. I've although i three morning lawn as reports but you've worked raised at the classics. So how does how does the event strike you intensive size and scale you. Just how much it's going on here. The scale is fast and it's probably the only event other than the pre formula one grand prix. Perhaps that uses every part of silverstone's facilities in fact more because the classic you've got both the old pit and paddock a byword kit and the current wing building. One full cars transporters people everywhere and that's just on the racing side and there's so many category so many cars. You don't see very often come out to do this. Because it's one of the showpiece events on historic calendar so you enough to get round just as a competitor. Someone like marcus said. He's interested in racing side. But then you've got everything else around on the campus as well all the various car clubs and their displays. And what have you. So basically from the moment you walk through the gates. There's something to feast your eyes on. What is great on banners the the cause and the transporters by and large also aggregated at the classic which means that you have a pretty much unimpeded view cost within the pitch whether you're in the wing or they i like to call them the heritage pits. Yes alpes really And the what is brilliant just before session the cause causing drivers channeled through One of the pits effectively out onto the track. So you get that. Wonderful view of the entire entry lined up and going out with with with a decent backdrop have to sort of seek them out In it'll nooks and crannies attic there will be coming out. Once you got through qualifying they put in order. So you've got some The quickest competitors franz and you walk down the great expectancy job Rather easier to the marshalls are.

"We'll touch on earlier in the in the show. When i was talking about this this this sprint qualifying give us some of those narratives that we had approached this weekend with in terms of potential concerns for it because this depending on. If you're a red bull funnel peres being out of action. Basically tomorrow for red bull is potentially advantage dis right. So red bull need peres up the fighting with with max and now he's completely. Ns useless to them essentially. So is that a good thing. Is it gonna swing the championship. Back towards mercedes at lisa rebelled. Don't run away from it. Would we then see that as a bit of a well. At least that's change things or is it unfair because although sergio did qualify technically out position we would argue it. He could've could've been more used to rebel tomorrow. And therefore maybe we had a a a a proposal between mercedes and red bull. So i guess it's all of these things that we're gonna say. What is that a good thing or is it a bad thing and i guess it does depend on whether what side of the title fight you sit on in terms of who you want to say out there in the front. I can visualize when ross brawn is very clever. People have have a debrief about sprint qualifying. They're to view the fact that it ended with the driver in arguably the fastest car on the grid starting the race at the back of the grid. He'll take that as a net win wind. Say it's it's it's ka ching basically bars walnut concerned but the sprint qualifying has tabs an effect on the shape of the rest of the grand prix. We can now. Alex and i before we sat down to recall this talking about how alex it's affected quite a lot about how you approach grand prix weekend. Let you would normally be looking at the long. He'd be crunching the numbers from the long runs and fpu to to work out. Who is actually the quickest car in rice trim. You would present that in your friday evening. Wrap up on autosport plus and them as some of the jobs of f. b. two is being rented a slightly pointless session. Obviously the people who've paid to come here this week and watch formula one. Cars go round might not agree but from the point of view. You're trying to work out. Who was on what fuel load. Who is actually quick. What was actually going on eight. It was a little bit of a nonsense. Wasn't that was a ship went out. I have done number crunching just between them. Mercedes and report stage because he's just pretty pointless working out the all the all the whole order if that makes sense but we want to know what's going to happen in the fight the front we want. I think we we did learn something. From f- pizza. I decided this gestion was the ripple maybe focused a little bit overpaying for sprint race. More than mercedes which meant mercedes looking more towards the guam pray without gave them and the times do suggest that mercedes have a slight edge on the long run pace and that's extending things don't know my favorite word caveats apply these things. And but yeah. I i think i would miss f. b. to if it were gonna as the at silverstone would miss that as well but But yeah. I mean yeah. He's my friday. Features has become a sunday feature. We're going come plus today but Yeah headlines these funds. On saturday night jess from from your point of view i turn away you watching sprint qualifying. Not rice rice. But what what. What did you make of it in terms of sort talking absolutely. It's where done where you're watching f. P. two from rather. But i was always wandering around the outside of the circuit try. She finds a spot of fence. That was already occupied by someone. Else is being a pretty full house this week and hasn't say but i couldn't work out. What was going on from trackside. I was just enjoying watching formula guy by it was bridged brave. I hope really wasn't it was just a great exp- like challenges to to see 'cause on track and grab some footage of them Yeah i was actually very lucky enough. I was on the inside of stove for b. to taking some snaps. And so yeah. I mean that was enjoyable but genuinely think it's also because of the change in times of vulgar sessions. I've had to remind myself when everything's happening a million times and we've had we had that we'd into majorie period of just like ours passing and nothing happening in as having not obviously nothing to do but just it being extended and i don't know if that added to the tension before we saw spring qualifying but yeah it's been quite a strange one. We've had to kind of scene of fans on twitter. Having meeting constant reminding about where are we. What are we doing. what's what time are we on. And obviously one thing. That's been a bit of a shame. I've seen of australian fans going. There is no way. We're watching anything this weekend because everything's happening at three in the morning Because of the change in time so that that's quite it's quite an one. It's felt very alien alien and idea. I don't know how you found it in terms of your usual approach to weekends. But it's kind of throwing everything up in which i guess maybe is put you on your toes alex. I don't know maybe it's major think differently about formula. One discerning has definitely on friday. I felt the closest. I've ever felt being formula one driver which is not very close it. So let's face it. My driving parking's car so i can't comment on that. I kept very stressed leaks me yet. Only because i have to go trackside trackside in this race. Because of the kobe bubby congo probably trackside after which is watching from inside of club and just as young reflecting the magazine. What the flavor of the the weekend was you know the atmosphere things and also what caused that trackside and did like nfc one at least the ferrari particularly struggling although they go off ties on anyway. What that meant was because of the ultimate we can timetable. I hadn't been watching. The coverage are hadn't been writing practice report. so i went into qualifying undercooked. Many approach bed. How moton not position right yet. Get back if it's undercooked. Just put it back in the. That's what i saw. When i seven years in the catering industry stuff ministry. I think that's a great place to leave it. So we can let august syrian the gp racing fan village. Get back to their drinks and back to their dr to sky sports. One on the big screen. Perhaps ted kravitz. I'm watching him still wandering around talking extemporaneously into the cameras. Channeling keith floyd site listening. Thanks for listening to the many listeners. To the podcast online and around the world. Thank you jeff. Mcfadden for joining us and sharing your insights. Thank you very much for having me. I'm glad i could make it on time because the traffic is awful. And thank you alex catalog. Because you can now emerge you can sanitize you can wipe down your microphone. You can wipe down your head and you can emerge from behind your cash in number.

"But there's something about that mercedes system of long suspected this. That's just a little bit. Not quite good just comes down to these time. Margins doesn't adjust that it's that final one percent the small differences the even between the systems like that the way the clutch actuates can make a huge difference in terms getting a lotta wheelspin all. And that's what we always talk about those fractions. Everything has to come together. And sometimes it's not fair people would say it's not fair because you the george russell. Is this one kid that everybody says. He missed a saturday in the mr friday. And everybody's hyping that he's gonna buy case points for williams tomorrow and get that top ten finish that he so desperately has been tantalisingly close to on a number of occasions but the end of the day like that is one you know. We know that's the case. We know certain cause have quirks and sat and drivers needs to adapt to certain aspects of those calls or driving styles that they need but that is formula one and to kind of say. Well you know you know we can rightly points out. Is something that we will point out and say well you know. Maybe don't judge him so harshly because there is this and he is battling with this. It's the same with daniel ricardo spike in about him. Before you know there's something about that mclaren that isn't quite right him but is formula one they have. This is some. These are all things that drives have to overcome and the great seemed to be able to match it but as we said lewis go bad start today and it's cost him pole position so yeah i think it's just it's just case in point of the nature formula one atlanta size in the latest addition of gp racing heavy plugged. Drop their. You know you that comes a time when you basically have to learn to unlock the potential mccaren not complain about it and just learn what makes it takes i. He's been focusing his efforts on adapting to it and he's he says it's quick just takes a little bit more work to extract that speed Which which comment leads me neatly to ask the back on. Who has a new chassis this weekend and from the outside. You actually have to scrutinize the data very carefully to see the difference. He finished the sprint qualifying. Not rice a rice. Just behind george russell. He says the changes being transformative. So i suppose the question now is how. How much of that change is purely psychological and esther needed that little arm around the shoulder. In the fall of epa if carbon fibre just to reassure him that he was actually a driver and it wasn't the cost gaming or it was just a magic in the call so some drives actually weirdly superstitious. Aren't they. I think that the way everything was presented in terms of that sort of back up in terms of there was a bit of like reluctance to discuss. What was really going on in. Australia detected misquote. She was like yeah. We see as i really now. Not the right time to out came out and said well we're going to make those changes including a new chassis and on the face of as what potentially maybe is that big psychological based or could have been something genuinely need to happen but yes certainly been transformative. You say the the. I'm just what. What do you think about the psychological side of it. Do you think that sometimes just drivers do need to be indulged. A little bit if if they've become convinced the they of the there's something wrong with their equipment that they need that kind of placebo mean the mindset of a driver is something that we're talking more and more about in this kind of modern formula one We we speak about the fact that it. All of these drivers have Performance coaches the part of their role. Now is the psychological side of being athletes and performing at this level consistently. I mean potentially for twenty three races this season which is just an insane number of races to to have to perform at this level and what they physical Physical feet. So i think they're mo- they're in doubtedly is going to be something in it like the how much of it you can put it down to. An increase in performance is a bit of a question mark and unknown. But i mean. I think you saw even with With the british drivers like the funds the energy from the fans this weekend having those packed grandstands the chairs birth yesterday and today for every single one of the british drivers was just inside. I mean it got to me like so emotional. So i mean i can only imagine it'd be like playing a major sporting match. I'm not going to mention the areas but in front of your home crowd. That energy definitely carries you gives you an advantage. So i think something maybe a smaller saying it's not all yeh is partly the car must then give a boost when you feel everything coming together so yeah i think that must be. There must be elements of that too. Alex did you detect energy from the crowd from the windows media center. You here it. Yeah definitely particularly. When george russell was on saying he's amazing lapping in q. Suits get three key three weeks amazing performance. But i think what was interesting because some derek work. We're saying facebook last week does give you two tenths. But you're still doing as their within these. It's of like it was works. Well why am. I not getting two tenths every time but i think it just comes down to certain situations suiting. Certain humans differently like for may i naturally lazy individuals. You can probably tell and on the pressure of a deadline. Sometimes that really odd can produce my best work when the brushes on our time just four pizzas and so terrible and kevin gets stress than angry. What does those pause. Malton and george russell. He's point on. That is the the weight of expectation of the fans. Reese family being in the paddock for the first time. Since i beat helped him reach a level. So is it just works. They stop that psychological thing works in different ways. Different people. i i guess the today we all human beings right and the the nineties yeah questionable. what planet you'll really from But i think we were affected by things i mean. I think that's the reason don't show it was touched on in Last night's podcast but london nurse. Come on come to this weekend on the back of quite a horrific instant that would shake anyone. I mean i unfortunately not the same thing. And i definitely wasn't wearing anything as valuable as london was but i have. I was mugged at one point. And i've always thought i'm a really strong individual like mentally strong over anything i was in paces and then have to go and perform at the level of an easy and not only just enough. Be like you're driving formula one call like it's just an insane thing for any human to do so again just like props to all twenty drivers for doing their jobs but it's it's well-paid But yeah i think is is going to affect you things like this affect you so i think it's it's so much more a part of the of the series racing now that yeah it's it's got a sad have a have a big effect. I think indeed is now before we move onto any other business. Obviously this slot less distinguished thailand. The grades alpha tari saying worst weekend. Diverse drivers pretty depressed mixed mixed messages from alpha male. Obviously kimmy made a net gain from a sort of slightly humble grit position last on the grid tomorrow. As far as we know so grid is not determined until sunday morning. Sergio perez. who had well. I think we can probably describe Without some having the plugs put live and ariza's a bit of a head fought sir in beckett's said he's just undone by that. Yeah i think it was nice in that yes a bad bad era really bad i mean as i said he's already given me down drive ratings for office qualifying out for just running out though and ends up behind the slow ferrari great but yeah i mean paul from peres really poor. The he gets the opportunity to recover which is so good about point to the spring race am format hair in the. He has the opportunity to make up his mistake. So that's good and bad spending your perspective but it should make for better grand prix because he'll be calling for the pack unless he gets them dirty air coming chapel and then spins again which could conceivably yikes. But i guess i mean. This is kind of I wanted to touch..

"And i think that's what's really important for me for me. Formula one is a very emotional Racing series. I mean mode. Sport in general is a very emotive historical sports. So i guess that would be taken away to me. So i think that's why people are getting quite passionate about it and as you say vessel is so supremely caught up in the history of the one which is a really lovely things to watch when you're watching a modern day driver. So yeah. I think that's why people are quite upset about it. Alex your take on statistics. Coming out the caveat. That's that's caveat is another word where our audience are required to take a drink in the drinking game. Should we add the caveat. That the fifa mealy ratifies pole position and is the fastest driver on in the qualifying session. He sets it absolutely absolutely. I think yeah. I think it's just gonna seems to me that so easy to create another category for another little star. I mean formula one. Is this high tech sport. That's all about these little bits of information and data and just changing it for soulless reasons of where with its whatever we could have two penalty apply. I think he's the person from the great doesn't really feel right. I mean you think that michael schumacher at monarchy in two thousand twelve. He's wrong he's not credited with that position because of his great penalty. Fantastic driving to the mercedes which is not the dominant call and that point on pogo ramonica. Say it was. Yeah he just leaves a bad taste in the mouth if we sort of turned out for further down the the finishing order or the starting order of tomorrow. Obviously we've we've covered maxwell snapping and lewis hamilton. Shall we consider the tragic case of voluntary bodies. Asu krisztian horn fetched out his wooden spoon. During the channel four broadcast furiously started stirring the pot by saying mercedes thrown valerie under the bus by making him start on soft tyres which i could be wrong but that turned out to be a load of didn't it basically it was absolute nonsense. I did think when i saw what i starting the soft is just not like him. Is he actually upset. But no it wasn't. It wasn't a particularly outrageous decision. Because i think there is. I think the race tomorrow is going to be a one stop are and will be medium too hard but the other tentative offset oaten trashy. You'll be actually start on the soft and you would do probably around about seventeen laps anyway. So it's not. It wasn't an outrageous. Move if anything it was. It was a sensible move to get. The call is behind the red bull ahead. And i think it's kind of something. Do we tend to see red bull split strategies more And that's i guess maybe it's a point of where we're at in the season in the constructors mercedes trying everything to try and take it to marxist happen and so yeah i think i was similar. Dissimilar take of like really solves all. This could go wrong but at the same time we saw. How well that worked for fernando alonso and how well that worked for kimmy ryan and kate. It's a completely different battle that bad taking than than the having at the front of the of the pack. But it's it's just again to me looking back on it it was. I mean he still finished pay three so no love lost that like that's that's fine and It is again. I took it as mercedes trying defying an alternate stress. Chief full one of that drivers which is something that maybe we didn't see as much off when they were so dominant so we know that and correct me. If i'm wrong. Alex because you all the The sector person analysis person usually for practice in all that when. You're doing your Reports to me that maybe the mercedes with doing more sprint race relations on friday. They seem to be quite nervous. Or maybe not maybe nervous the wrong take. Maybe that's my kind of take a from a subjective point of view but they really wanted to try this right. They really wants to succeed. So i don't see that as a i think that's just a classic christian horner playing mind games. I think i think they were surprised to end up ahead of happening qualifying decision. I actually it was particularly. Fbi which was a maybe about completely meaningless in terms of almost no point to although i disagree mattress lap and he's he's come out with that and said well we shouldn't if we're going to do this spring qualifying format which give out with fda. And i think actually there's a lot of people who've paid money one guy around the tracks. Don't take that away from them just because you can't change the folks out of the car. I think you can still learn something about anything. Let's face it. But yeah i think i think yeah. Mercedes surprised to be head. They know their updates of help them a lot. And just yeah. I think they would just just trauma they couldn't sprint race and we'll see how not pay somebody tomorrow. I think we'll we'll we'll circle back to the the wider area shape of of the grand prix weekend. A little bit later. Be before we move onto that. Shall we consider the curious case of george russell having having gone through the rest of the top ten. We've we've we've covered charles leclerc. Should it be now with color sites arguably but not didn't happen. Nice a net one move forward philandering norris daniel ricard great right by fernando alonso also pretty under the radar good rice by sebastian battle but then george obviously had that. Pardon my Coughing it's not catching. It's an old one eight sort of had a slightly slightly clumsy opening opening-lap than some of the veterans did now. Is this part of the craft. That george needs to develop. Because we've we've looked starts in the passer. I don't want to be one of these people size. Oh i you know just just terrible house always goes backwards of the stop. You know just a captive outta that drivers do develop. It is an aspect of his craft. He needs to work. I'd say there's there's two elements to it one. Yes he does. We know needs to improve but also he struggles a lot because the williams car the package itself struggles went running in two thousand stretching the witnesses very very sensitive and also. We know that georgia's talks about something that he himself admits improve on is getting the walmart blah time preparation completely right because i think he feels a little bit hit and miss they know the procedures. It's just sometimes it just doesn't come off quite as well as it could it williams you know we saw a in In i think in france in the french grand prix was particularly talking about the. That's why fell backwards and danny has amazing race from there so i mean it's a little bit of yeah. He doesn't need to get better at certain things involving the star and the first lap but also. He's not helped by his car because he didn't have a problem on the first lap of the secure break the you straight into the lead lowestoft batas pretty well for one of the needs for starts but then i also saying bought us. Defense by mercedes has a little bit of a starting difficulty which we saw with lewis. Hamilton's day because he's come out and said oh my dog on the clutch. He thinks he's a perfectly good star. But there's something about that mercedes system of long suspected this. That's just a little bit. Not quite good just comes down to these time. Margins doesn't adjust that it's.

"It isn't it's kind of two steps forward. Two steps backers. Another a song went back in the day. I i loved. I is years ago when alex was heist. The podcast this sort of thing would have ended up on the floor but so brightly. Sorry that's not gonna make the the the alonso battling with ricardo in particular was spectacular. Because obviously dan made what you might call slightly heavy weather getting past him compared with landau and then once he did get past him and i was right back at him and that was proper racing. Wasn't it that was that was more spectacular than we've seen quite a while actually was. Yeah i mean. There was no consideration for preserving the ties. Just he was great. It was really a real battle from from ricardo. you know he. he overtook. Lonzo is like differently town nourish that it was started a village. And as you say alonzo bow back but yeah what what tremendously race there. But i did think. I think lonzo touch atop naughty. Depending i did have a word towards the end of the race. I was going to say. I was quite shocked that we didn't get. What's it called on the screen. It'll graphic popping up say this is being looked at because it was just i. I laughed because it was genuinely funny. The length to which he was weaving and how much he was weaving iras like this. We is he. Does he know what he's doing. Of course he knows what he's doing he's manda also but yeah it was it. Was that battle for me. Was the entire highlight of the entire of the sprint race. Spring qualifying saw. I'm gonna hold off. I can already feel like out giving me dacca's according to their own thing. I do but yeah it was. It was amazing. it was great to see. I think that's what i mean about. You know don ricardo is one of the drivers is we've we bring up regularly the season for not being able to keep on his teammate. Who is having probably one of the best seasons of all the drivers on the on the grid. At least the most consistent and It gives him another show on your kado as an amazing driver. So in that respect. It's it's it's great for those drivers but yeah it was it was it was amazing to see even if it was a little naughty. The it's been interesting to see the response to the drivers not being uniformly positive. Some drivers have been quite critical of the sprint qualifying. Full matt sebastian battles sides. It shouldn't determine snapping even even after winning that sprint qualifying race race sprint qualifying. Whatever we're going to call it This particular tom around the houses He's still negative amounts. Louis was pretty positive. So i mean. Is this the case alex. That more data is required. The drive needs to get get more definitely. And i also think that getting a sense of just watching the sky if one interview ahead of ahead of this recording outside on the big screen and ross brawn seems to be suggesting all where we could still change things. I really really hope that extends to changing the pole position record officials statistic because it's an absolute travesty. The lewis hamilton does not have pole position for the british grand prix in terms of the statistic because dot qualifying session on friday night was brilliant and he performed exceptionally well. Taken advantage of mac. Happen being on. I would get temperature into his front is so if all things can be tweaked and maybe that will help the drivers. Maybe a veteran. He's a he's a he's a big fan of the traditions of formula. One's things that maybe that make the more positive about that. So yeah that's just keep people while you paint on things a banging on about things that are pointless and blah blah blah statistics and. You're already problems. And whatever important these things and people do care about. And i think formula one i think it was just as the wanna have trade sanctions between this. Spring breaks guam. Pray if we keep banging the drum some positive comes from maybe the drivers these these same. There's little things that they don't like if that critical helps us stories and all magazines are websites. And maybe they'll get what they was. Well the it is a very interesting subject. The statistical thing isn't it because obviously the way we look pole position as it is the ultimate expression of the guy who is the fastest driver on the day but oversee that the you know there are some quite loud voices social media and presumably in the paddock as well Expressing opinions as they do who say that well actually. It's the fifa who decide. Who's on pole position when they on sunday morning. Sand the literally my lout saying who's i want the actual starting grizz so it is actually possible to qualify on pole but then lose three positions because penalty or something. I'm so where we with. This discussion is is now a pointless piece of hair-splitting. Do we think to say the faa pole position is interesting. Isn't it because it has made us think. Oh actually who does decide what paul means. It doesn't mean the fastest driver over one lap or does it mean the driver who starts the race from sunday. And obviously there's two very distinct camps it shows it was. Alex is saying these statistics. All very important to the history is is how we tried to refer back to previous drivers and try and find some semblance of continuity or being able to compact because obviously as human beings. We're obsessed with herring and comparisons between eras and drive is. Is there a great civil time and ordinarily the first thing that we tend to when we're trying to decide great civil time argument which. I'm not sure there should be a graceful time if i'm saying my piece but that's not what this is about. That is the number one thing we tendency right like we say statistically lewis hamilton is the most successful foreign drive review time that is an important part of formula. One formula one's makeup. So i guess to then say turn around and go will actually it's the faa who decides position anyway and therefore whomever starts from the suspend a sprint qualifying all a more traditional qualifying. Former then. i don't know it loses. Some of its romance doesn't it. And i think that's what's really important for me for me. Formula one is a very emotional Racing series. I mean mode. Sport in general is a very emotive historical.

So you're not having three boys and three years. What are your some other some other tips tricks up? I mean I will definitely say I have no idea what it is to have more than one child. I have one child so I you know maybe if I had another one everything that I'm saying we go out the window but I don't think so because I think that while he's super chill in his soul like he's really he's such a good little guy so sweet and loving. He's also a wild animal beast. Because he's like Bruce Lee in the kitchen. I'm like I'm trying to cook. And he's Bruce Lee. He's just watch you know he's he's he's never taken a class in his life. He's just like chopped kicking like going crazy so I think he's really athletic and really strong and really awake Really Alive and not one. Part of him is suffering from this food. There's zero sign of any deficiency. You know he's really doing well but in terms of how I speak to him. You know we really communicate so well and yeah. There's never been a need for me to yell at him. I remember one time. We are the pool and this was a long time ago. I think it was that we are having friends over some kind of little party and he. I said something to him because I think he splashed me or something and I said no thank you and whatever I said I said I think he hurt me back on it. You know how they always elbow you. I mean I'm constantly being elbowed in the BOOB. You know need in the chest. I mean everything. I'm just abused by his body use. No me too but whatever it was he did something that made me have a gut reaction of like no and he goes to me and he I saw his face drop and he was just like mummy. You yelled at me. I said I yelled at you. Baby I don't think you know what a yell is because I hadn't even barely raise. My voice. Slept for a hand felt like a lot because he's not used to it. Yeah and he goes. You were so serious. I said I spoke with a serious voice right. He said Yeah I said why do you think that is he? Goes because you want me to stop. It hurt me. I just wanted you to understand it hurt and it was my reaction. I that's not a yell my love. I don't Yell at you yell at me practice yelling you want to hear what a yellow but so so. I put all you have to say to him. Honestly I've always. There was a moment where we had to serve. When they're so young that you have to sort of hold them down her second like hold them till they come down and you're just go. I know baby. I know you're so upset right but as a other than that like all I have to say to him is no thank you and he goes. Okay Mama and sometimes I have to repeat myself. You know like bear please. I asked you to do this. Can you do remember and he goes. Oh Yeah and they don't forget again on the way there he forgets because these eight. That's amazing but no it's really note. There's no yelling. How do you hold that up with having twenty four hour seven day a week exposure n n I know you I mean I? It's you've had a lot of practice with it. Which I think is the is the most I mean your your mental pathways. Primed for patients and soothing. This so curious for so many MOMS by organ. Listen to this and be like I want. I want to be them. Yes in but I'm just so frazzled. All the time teach will I do? Think that the The most important foundation part of this whole thing is Mama sleep right zone Mike if I don't get a good night's sleep because I didn't eat as well as when I eat perfect food. My sleep is perfect. I wake up Mike. Bring it. What do you got? I'm ready right but if I don't eat well and then I don't sleep well. I am so extra sensitive and I'm really sensitive person to begin
Bruce McLaren Pt. III - Life after Death: Road to the P1
"When we last met up with Bruce the young. Qe had left his home country of New Zealand and made his home in England working for legendary carmaker John Cooper in his factory. Bruce's racing career abroad had a bit of a bumpy. Start but after two wins at the Medina of Formula One. Not because I would say the machias Monaco Silverstone Bruce was finding his confidence behind the wheel is Medina. Like Madina Right. That's the first time I've ever really called on to city in Western. Saudi Arabia Coleman Anyway. It's the one thousand nine hundred fifty eight German Grand Prix. At the Nurburgring Bruce Finishes Fifth Overall and first in the formula to class. He was hanging in with the formula. One cars thing about how Formula One cards. You have to stay ahead of to be fifth overall but still win. The form from the to us about twenty-one sounds about right I'm not gonNA contest that's pretty crazy. Just like bump up a class like yeah I mean that. Just shows the prowess over. Yeah Yeah So. After the fifty eight German Grand Prix Hayman's mechanic Colin set off for England a race in brands hatch. Which was the very next day which I thought was insane. What these guys are always driving to raise amazing. They may act like now Racing is very posh. I guess like these guys are treated as athletes like you mentioned in the last episode. There's just so much data on them. They're checking their pulse. And their heart rates you know they probably like decompress the dudes after race in like check all their muscles and stuff like back then. It was a pretty like rag tag almost like the circus is coming to town. Yeah and it's there was no thought for scheduling. Yeah I'm really it's like. Hey we have formula one race in Germany. How will we go to Britain the next day? And there's like there's a race on there I don't know I guess two races back to back. In a day holiday weekend we might as well take advantage. Might as well make a vacation out of. Let's get some Carl's junior on the way. So they managed to complete the three hundred eighty mile journey from the nurburgring to brands. Hatch overnight and cooking. Yeah Bruce Hop in the car and finished third at that race and by the way. He wasn't the only one who made it to that raise. It was like pretty much the entire field in Germany. It's like a huge caravan of big old haulers and like probably station wagons and stuff just ripping down the autumn. Get on the M one. You know that's a local reference to angle everyone in the Midwest right now is like yeah. Three hundred and eighty miles. That's your commute. Yeah how far was la to Albuquerque for high low? It was like eight hundred miles so not that impressive. Sixteen hours twenty five dollars. God that was yeah. That was yeah. It was tasty blames my heart attack on that show. He's like like we just shot season. Two of high low the Z's are awesome now But like she was like very concerned while. We're shooting it because the last season was just so hard on us. This one was way easier by last time we work in eighteen hour days for like a month in a row and I had a heart attack like two weeks after it was weird man like that show like gotten the rhythm of that like you said eighteen hour days it was like okay you wake up drives garage work all day and then come home sleep for a little bit and then just do that and then after like two weeks this is like just a weird kind of few mind state. I forgot to pay bills beard dream state and like it's not like we're just going and work in it was like the highest pressure. Just everything was going wrong so much stress constantly and just like I think all of us cried. I cried cried cried. I was angry writing my lyrics by Bruce's twenty first birthday. He had competed in eleven European races and he had finished every one of them. Bruce believes it was because of the shared meticulous nature between he and his mechanic Colin they always tried to be first to tech inspections. I wants to practice and always have the car looking in tiptop shape in his book. Bruce maintains that quote. Three things are important. Go a long way towards winning races. I think it's time for just a little. Reminder of what racing was like back then the reputation that open-wheel racing has today as of precision and other worldly engineering and safety. But that's not how the sport was perceived in the late fifties. Now let no. Let's just listen to how Bruce describes a race. In Avis Germany. To my mind it was ridiculous to have a race. On the Avis Sick. It proved nothing and it was dangerous consisting of two two and a half Moss straights at one end by a hairpin and the other very steeply banked corner and when I say steeply banked boy I mean. Steeply banked is around forty degrees. It sounds more like something you'd see in running man to full throttle than a sanctioned race. I just think about. That's the most ridiculous racetrack I've ever heard. Yes big old oval that's not even oval is like hairpins up. Both sides knows a big bank at one side maintains a Frickin slingshot around the moon apart. And then you have to go through a hairpin shoe like the shape of the Caribbean her family. Yeah yeah so like you could just maintain a two and a half miles so you can maintain just like top out speed for. I'm guessing like close to six miles. Said Yeah they are in the book he says I think the average speed for that race was like one hundred fifty miles hour. That's absurd you remember. This is in the late fifties. Cars didn't have frigging seatbelts back. Then I don't think no no. No he goes on to describe the racing. At the Avis Circuit Race itself was like a group of boys and dodging cars wheels. Touching noses entails bumping jostling for the lead. But we do of that one hundred fifty miles per hour. Dodging cars are just bumper cars. Doug Jim Jim can't get a loan. I'm going to get some Cotton Candy Army Kit. The Dodoma's ooh that sounds. I'm going to try and win stuff bare minimum. There's a part of the documentary where he describes these like really steep banks. And he's going so fast that like it's hard to keep his hands in the bottom of the steering wheel like it's point his hands. Yeah isn't that crazy? That is insane. Bruce's appreciations about Avis testified as a crash sent one of the competitors flying thirty feet in the air and ejecting. The driver. The car went thirty feet. Car was out. Yeah the rest of the pack was able to dodge the car and continued their Breakneck Chase. Down the stretch back. Then they didn't even have like What's it like lotion rounds? Yeah they never. Yellow flag doesn't sound like as long as our cars on the way that's like a man. Keep it going. Crashes like these were not uncommon in racing back then. Bruce's car through a connecting rod that race by the way and the ejected driver also survived his crash with a broken leg and four. Broken Vertebrae like our racecar driver back. Then I'd be like okay. I'm down to race. Thank God I blew karate. Yeah certainly marina okay. I'm not going to win but at least I'm not dying today. There does seem to be at least a little bit of that kind of feeling. Drought the book because he when he describes time that it's car broke breaks down. He's also he's very sad obviously but also he then like in. The same breath described some horrific crash. Where someone just gets thrown from their car. His good friend got killed in a race and then he just like race the next day like they didn't even think about it. It was just like yeah. Of course I'm GONNA race guys used to die all the time.
NBA working on relationship with China after controversial tweet
"Lakers are in China Darren Shanghai right now they're gonNA play a game there Thursday morning early our time four thirty our time and then they're gonNA play another game Saturday in Chins in but there is a lot of controversy swirling around something more the rockets GM tweeted last week it would be would it be misleading to say things have calmed down but Adam silver's over there he's in Shanghai he's attempting to deal with it and it's hard to say if it's down or not the original Durham won't Daryl Morey tweet fight for freedom stand with Hong Kong and China and when I say China it's not just the government it's it's actual NBA Fans in China have responded and said they basically cancelled the Houston Rockets. Yeah I which I don't know that's fair enough but it's it's realistic they really have they shut down the Houston Rockets The Houston Rockets have been the heritage beloved team in China going back to Yao. Ming and that tweet is unbelievably incendiary in Hong Kong there's a separatist movement movement and the Chinese are and when I say the Chinese it's not just the government Chinese citizens an NBA fans in China are dead set opposed that separatist movement and so it's caused a gigantic controversy here's a little bit of what Adam Silver said about it this afternoon. CCTV announced that because of my remarks supporting Daryl Mores freedom of expression not the since of his statement but his freedom of expression they were no longer going to air the Lakers Nets preseason games that are scheduled for later this week a and it's not something we expected to happen I think it's unfortunate but if that's the the consequences of US adhering to our values we still feel it's critically important we adhere to those values my plan long has been to travel to Shanghai tomorrow and I plan to attend the Lakers Nets game Thursday night it's my hope that when I'm in Shanghai I can meet with the appropriate officials and discuss where we stand and again put those remarks from Daryl Morey and my remarks in an appropriate context of a many decades long relationship and see if we can find mutual respect for each other's political systems and beliefs but I'm a realist as well recognize that this is this this issue may not die down so quickly Daryl Morey has apologized actually James Harden also made this state apologize you know we love China we love playing near I know for both of us individually we go there wants to twice a year they show the most important love so now we appreciate as a fan base and we love everything you know they're about in in no way appreciate the support that they give us individually and as an organization so You know we love you if you're wondering why Adam Silver has is kind of taken the position that he has he is he's issued a couple of statements this was too and and you know to give us a little more background Shanghai is fifteen hours ahead of us so it's tomorrow morning in Chiang it's Wednesday morning Adam Silver's already there and he's hoping to have those meetings today in his statement that he issued on Tuesday when he was in Japan he said the NBA will not put itself in a position of regulating what players employees seasoned team owners say or will not say on these issues we simply could not operate that way so he is standing up one hundred percent for not necessarily anything Darryl said or tweeted specifically but for his right to say it yes in in that's why and then as you point out there are many many people's very upset in China and we'll see what happens next but you know Michael and I are hoping touring the Games a Thursday morning and Saturday morning it'll be four thirty am both days if you want to get up early you can listen to us or we're going to simulcast those those our call on spectrum sports net too so we're just waiting to see what happens next in the story but we're looking forward to doing those games I said earlier in the show it one thing I've learned about sports and you understand this steve better than most people because you've covered so many Olympics is sports can be a great unifier it really can it can bring people together you can you can see people jumping up and down and hugging each other we don't even speak the same languages so I I'm hoping we can play the games we can bring him to you and that cooler heads will prevail but we'll see we'll see yeah there's a lot of upset people here is Rachel Nichols who's actually in China the conflict with China top of mind for the League office the NBA is actually facing backlash on both sides here they're facing backlash from those who support the anti-government protesters in Hong Kong who feel that silver hasn't gone far enough to support rockets GM Daryl Morey but they're also facing backlash inside China from those who feel that silver has not gone far enough to condemn what more he actually said one of the loudest voices in that WHO's actually hall of Famer Yao-ming who is now the chairman of the Chinese Basketball Association Yao is one of the people but silver is hoping to meet with when he gets to China which will be on Wednesday yeah he sort of he's taking heat from both sides now sober both from both from people think he didn't go far enough to support Daryl Morey and people in China who think he didn't go far enough in condemning them here's Doc rivers this is new uh-huh doc rivers talking about what's going on with the NBA in China hit for saying what we believe we did as we disagree disagree I disagree with everything you say I have the right to do that and I have the right to Silverstone Tom and that's good that's good that's what this is about freedom of speech and and we should always have who consequences for what you say and that's why we get back to the Lincoln Body before you say there could be possibly and that's by the way what we're seeing we're seeing enormous consequences for Daryl Morey exercise his freedom speech and as of now Darryl still the GM of the rockets tillman for t- to the owner of the rockets came out right away soon as Daryl tweeted that and said he doesn't speak with Iraq it's he doesn't speak for the NBA. I have no problem with Daryl does her his personal views I don't think they're gonNA lose his job over this we we shared with you earlier in the show if you don't listen to US regularly we uh-huh Darryl he's been a guest on this show probably ten times he's one of the reasons he's crazy we'll talk about anything and so Adam standing behind him and saying look whether you agree with what Tara said or not he has the right to say it I think probably means I was going to hang onto his GIG but I'm speculating I don't know yeah a lot of that came up over the weekend and it seemed to calm down a little bit but again this story is continuing to unfold and we don't exactly know how it's going to turn out when all is said and done what will the relationship between China Chinese fans in the Houston Rockets be what will the relationship between China Chinese fans in the NBA be how will the be altered how will that be changed in any way we don't exactly know where it seems to me the one of the things that will be important as if Adam silver can sit down with the Ming who is a great ambassador for Basketball Chairman of Chinese basketball so that could go a long way in mending the damage that has been
Important Reasons to Vaccinate Your Child
"Yeah, you've got the mumps measles coming to Arizona. You know, most of us got the m are the mumps measles mumps rubella. And we thought these diseases had really pretty much gone away. Right. I had both you had both. I had the measles was less than a year old. And I had the mumps when I was four. I had the mumps when I was five, and you know, you can get the mumps even if you get inoculated for it can happen to so. Yeah, it's not there's no guarantees in life. But it is is the smart thing to do for your kids. But I, you know, I I was doing some research for a column I wrote a few months ago, and it was I was shocked to learn that Maricopa County has the most non medical exemptions for vaccinations of any metropolitan area in the tire United States of America. And we're one of the few states that scene an overall upward trend in these non medical exemption. So a medical exemption is I'm not getting my kid inoculated because I'm not giving them getting in vaccinated because they they're allergic to something that's in the vaccine their immune system is is not healthy enough for them to get vaccinated. And those are the people who are at risk for the people who decide I don't want my kid getting a vaccine because I heard from Jenny McCarthy who's famous for being naked in a magazine I heard that they can get autism from her. I heard that from her you don't get it from her. You know, if you listen to her you get idiocy from her. That's what you get. It's contagious Jenny McCarthy's guide and Alicia SilverStone. Who's I put it earlier? Who's also anti diaper. And Charlie Sheen. You know, Amy, really these are the people we listened to instead of instead of scientists and doctors and traditions, and so yeah, you've got you got the mumps in here in the valley. You've got it in coaches county. You've got this child in in Pima county with the measles. Twenty fifteen. We had one case of measles. And prior to twenty fifteen the last time we had measles was in two thousand eight we had an outbreak at that time. That's Paula Mandel with the Pima county health department. So it's here. Don't listen to the nutty celebrities, listen to your pediatrician, and I hate it. I hate it. When my little ones have to get shots. I hate it. The six year old has started to get a little more logical about it. But there was a time when we had to like hold her down, you know, but I know in the long run, I'm keeping her. Safe. And and what I'm doing is. I'm I'm keeping other people safe other people's kids save who cannot get vaccinated.
‘Clueless’ Movie Remake in the Works
"Studio, how do you feel about a clueless remake like how do you read make this about the nineties because clueless is so it's the nineties movie to me, it's it's Emma from Jane Austen. So yeah, of course, you can remake it. I don't know if it'll be as I comic. I mean, there was mean girls that was like conic from the ninety s and we had no mean girls from the two os clues clueless from the nineties did we have one in the mid. One's eighties or fifteen twenty fifteen. We have had that wake one coming of age film that so encapsulates the current time period that we're in. I don't know if we're able to be able to put our finger on it at the time and say, oh, this is definitely the Moby of our generation. We might look back in ten years and say, I don't know something like on a love Simon. Oh, no. That was the movie of our time, Mark Riley. Will this clueless movie may be the film that Kim is talking about it could be the movie that reminds us not of the nineties, but of the two thousand teens I think it has absolutely has a chance because of what Kim said in reference to Emma? It's a it's a story that you can remake and shine a light on the on the culture. And that's what clueless did so. Well, is that that's a staple nineties culture. You know, you feel it you watch it rewatch it you're like, oh, I'm right there in the nineties you can do it now. And I think the team that they have I finally saw girls trip like a few months ago. And I was like this is great good for you. That was a great movie. And so when you tell me that the right? Is coming on produce it and we get the glow, which I did watch few episodes aglow. This is a great team to bring it who knows if it'll land like the clueless of the nineties did. And I'm wondering if they could do this nostalgia thing that they've been doing in movies, which is it's a continuation. So maybe Alicia SilverStone share can come back somehow just reprise her role for a cameo. That's like it. It
