"Always a pleasure to have you on the program Thanks for being with us Sure great to be here so what do you expect Well going to be I think we're in the middle of a really important structural change for the industry So kind of looking beyond just this quarter and obviously as we always are But when you look at some of the pricing dynamics and obviously that is driven by the supply shortages But I think this is an industry domestically that we are going to be very different than this 80 days supply and big discounting and incentives on the hood that to move vehicles that going forward This is going to be much tighter supply and demand balance and we're going to see really structural change to pricing power to margins of the domestic manufacturers Volume is going to be an issue in this quarter specifically but what's going to be interesting are those margins and those average transaction price trends What's the average price of a vehicle right now Yeah so it's a record We have it just about to touch $44,000 per vehicle Who can afford this But here's the interesting thing John right So historically and we keep track of the average transaction price versus its sticker price versus the MSRP Historically that number has been about 65 6.5% So what that means is you and I can walk into a dealership Look at those sticker in the window and basically subtract $2700 and the dealer won't even blink That number now is 0.15% So from $2700 last month the discount you could expect was $70 So the industry the consumer is paying sticker for new vehicles on top of that There would be some sort of cash incentive from the factory that said 10% back of that sticker price So on a 42 $43,000 vehicle you could expect about four grand back That number is cut in half That's about two So the consumer is paying more the manufacturers and the dealerships while they would like more volume love this This is pricing power and cost rationalization at the same time that even bankruptcy back in 2008 2009 couldn't accomplish And that's why I say we're on the verge of this structural change in the industry that may from the manufacturers down through the suppliers may stick a little bit going forward Did the auto industry ever have something close to just in time inventory Not for a very long time And after that I know it's like that's just a fallacy nowadays right Yeah Well I mean that's what we're talking about right And Ford's second quarter call there was a lot of talk that sounded a lot like that right Order banks Obviously the high volume things John F one 50 at Ford or that T one platform Silverado Sierra General Motors you're going to stock those things at your dealerships But a lot of the other things they're saying like well put the order in and we'll build it and you'll get it when you get it The other thing that's interesting too is that our domestic automakers Ford and GM and those the land is brands that are domestic They're truck mix And when I say truck pickups SUVs crossovers are well into the 90% of their volume mix here now Like General Motors are like 97% truck So cars are dead And it's not that people aren't buying them They're just not made anymore General Motors bestselling car is Corvette at an average of $82,000 So you can't get them So there is no going back to a more 50 50 mix of car versus truck and transaction prices coming down as that mix industry wide goes higher and higher It just means prices are going to inflate We'll be at 45,000 Mix in the industry is roughly 80% truck now It'll be 90 Okay At some point can I ride the green tidal wave and these companies all just Tesla wannabes Well here's the thing We will ride that wave and I think the thing that gets missed is how much influence and I would argue all of it is on the manufacturer So we hear the consumer wants it Tesla the numbers that they do their growth whatever At the end of the day it comes down to profitability for the manufacturers So if that technology proves profitable or when it proves profitable everybody will do it and we'll have EVs readily available So you can subsidize the consumer with federal tax credits you can invest in charging infrastructure but at the end of the day if you turn around to an automaker and look at the P and L and it says the loss per EV is $15,000 They're simply not going to build them or at least not build them enthusiastically It's not because there's an inability to make EVs or to be Tesla It's an inactivity of not wanting to be unprofitable when you're printing money on pickup trucks every single quarter Do you have time in senior automotive analysts with Bloomberg intelligence Thanks very much Appreciate.

"Correct me if i'm wrong but if you look at our team the last day that newfield existed and today tyler's basically the handing me do glove mcdougal's gone mcdougal mcdougal's gone beach is gone. I'm gone right and so a lot of people. Cooley moved onto completions in several people move to completion. They're still inventive. But in terms of drilling people between newfield and encana once as the last man Who cape may cape reservoir slash production or one do and then she came now. She's drilling manager. Gosh this is a saw grumman. Even even like the younger generation over there like georgia's griffin sailing those catholic. He's good good people and can't a bought a great company man. I looked at field. And i still today. It's like that's best company. Ever man. I'd still be working for newfield today still field but what transpired transpired. What so. how'd you into silverado. So in encana came in and in canada doesn't have lead drilling in years right so they have of basically senior engineers and managers right so they have to bump me up or bump me down and they bumped down known sean which is cool but that put the ball. Oh right so now. The decision is okay. John since we it change in control rules. If we changed your job title you can stay here or you can take your baggage enroll. I'm like i'll take package role and take my chances right in and literally the day or two after i put my notice in the boys from silverado called right and y'all newfield and they're lulu like right down the block pretty much. The same building yet. Weren't saint building so different floor and actually the event of people have have. They went from two buildings to one and in the other one but anyway so those guys collins at ham were putting a team together. Are you interested in like absolutely right. So i sat down with their twelve. Twelve guys led by larry sorrow and we're backed by an cap and and we're often running man. We're looking for an asset. Yeah go so. Tell me about now. So you've been over there for two years or two years. Yes so y'all i mean every time we meet your like dude. There's we're looking. We're looking like you and i talked recently. And you're like man's exciting right now. there are some. how are things going right. Now they're good man. Were you know we lost the year. Basically 'cause of cova hours right and so the market the a and d market was crazy and bad for year because oil obviously went negative and You know not was selling anything is actually more lucrative. Yappy warnings bankrupt versus sell to us. Do not talk to disarray about that. Like he's on a while ago he was like man. It's just it's it's it's unfortunate. Because like i mean all these companies that could go bankrupt or or no they could sell their decided to go bankrupt and hold onto the acids like. We're doing it to ourselves again. Yeah yep exactly so so a lot of people say like oh well you guys missed the low while you know. We didn't really miss the low trying like hell but you know no one really wanted to talk to us. But now the times of change right oil prices back up in the value of given assets is up and now people are starting to sell tear joan tier three stuff..

"Classless to me. I'll come on. Black on red is timeless. No it's not. I think covers all of the cars. They did though a underlying statement here. Mercedes-benz is going electric and they're doing a very rapidly. The germans in general pushing on this very hard. If you're one of the people that tells you hate electric cars forever. Never you're going to have to get over it because they're not plans for them to make a combustion engine for the foreseeable future if not ever again and what. We've said it many times on this. Show me personally. I'm fine with it electric there. There's no reason to not like electric power. There's no reason to not like from an enthusiast standpoint to not like the instant thrust that you get there's no reason to not like the simplicity of the design I mean how many people really relish taking their car into the dealership poor expensive services We gotta go in and get the timing belt done. We gotta go in and get the oil changed. I we gotta go in The water pump is leaking. We gotta get the water pump fixed by the just going down the list of stuff. My mazda recently You don't have that with electric cars you don't you. Don't have to worry about the radiator springing a leak you know it's just Bring it. I bring it on mercedes No end in. I agree with you simply because in. It's the same reason that the save the manuals brigade kind of bothers me there are going to be for your and my lifetime at least millions of vehicles with an internal combustion engine available that if you want that and if you wanna keep that on the road that you're going to be able to it's I brought this up before. And i'm sorry to whatever author mentioned it but it's the same thing with horses. There was a time a century ago. When horses served a function that they were a real life work. Animal now their pets you can. You can still ride your awards you know. You can do whatever but it's not an animal that you need to like they're gonna get some hate mail from the amish community. You know if the amish communities watching this. I want to get their hate mail. 'cause i'd love to hear from them but horses don't fulfill a work element anymore. Pets you can still ride. You can still dressage or race or whatever you're gonna do with them but that thing exists and that's going to exist with the internal combustion engine as well that it might be a small community than it was whatever time ago but you're still going to be able to buy that vehicle and you know what if you go back in to say the very late eighteen hundreds early nineteen hundreds just as this crazy thing called. The car was coming about. You know i will bet gazillion bazillion dollars flaw. That there is some guy with his horses. Saying you'll never get me in one of those stupid mechanical fangled cars. That machine doesn't have any soul like this horse does right How many people are now talking. You'll never give me into one of those quiet electric cars. Because they have no soul like my. Va does gee sounds kind of it. Sounds kind of familiar. Doesn't it and to build on that. Mike grandfather he owned a horse. This was in the one is. Yeah he he. He was super super proud that he had a horse that can outrun a model. Turkey like that was he. He had a story that he told me multiple times like he had this horse. That could outrun a model. T like and i bet he did because malti wasn't especially fast especially on dirt roads in west virginia. But you know the times have changed and the same thing is going to happen. Electric cars are just look at a model plaid. Look at a taken turbo s. And it's only going to get that levels only gonna get lower and lower. Electric cars are faster than internal combustion vehicles. But they're still going to be this group of a group of people out there that are going to love their internal combustion vehicles and that. That's fine i i love mine. I'll probably have one. I love the sound Clint there's one other thing that i wanted to run by you You kind of touched on it. Here about mercedes dislike going. Full speed ahead on electrification. We saw that in a major way at munich But it's really isn't really a full on german thing because i'd be worse. Bmw at we're gonna what it'd bmw have at twenty munich motorshow aside for their vision concept made of recycles. I'm but in fairness mercedes' excuse me. Bmw our colleague. Jeff says driving. The i accident. I four this week to electric cars. That are adding to their sir. I guess i bring it up. Because i was shocked at mercedes taking such a big step at really their home show. Yeah cities is build so many damn cars that makes sense. Yeah turn all the damn cars into electric damn cars. An hour just didn't have quite the same presence. Audi didn't have quite the same presence. Audi has grand sphere which is going to show off elector. We've seen mockups of electrified. A sixes and stuff. Yeah i say the germans because they have rolling eady's on the road right now. Toyota the biggest carmakers in the world is just starting to flirt with a full battery electric vehicle in their production line. I know that they've done hybrids and plug in hybrids better than most for a long time now but in terms of full electric vacation the japanese have like look at honda. They know plug in hybrids none of that stuff. I mean they're they're slower to come to the table. I think they're trying to get their engineering right in doing it. Right asta or subaru. Japanese have been very slow. Yeah yeah so we you know we'll have. We'll have a taste of toyota. The the fax machine car the be easy for whatever the algae called An honda has plans for his. I d i think in two years so i think nissan to their credit gave us the leaf years ago and since then there hasn't been another japanese. Ev you sold in the us. The muslim very wrong Mitsubishi ibm. I'm fine being wrong without forgetting that one. Yeah you're right though. Correct correct Yeah electrification is coming..

"All the standards that mercedes benz has for their fast as g models. Now at the the announcement said that out. An old clinton. If you're gonna offer some clarification. Am g has has worked on the electric motors. the dual the says do electric motors. Right that's right what what exactly is doing to electric motors. They had lunch with them and they asked how their feelings were they. I had no idea no idea. They're coming from the same plan. I mean they just turn up. I mean the juice on the electric motors. I mean we know i mean. Am gm and you can sit down and fiddle with an internal combustion engine. You can change parts you can do the but electric motor is. I mean electric motors pretty much. I agree with you. I mean. I i would really like to know what. Am jesus doing special to these electric motors. They're not gonna let a car. They're not gonna let it car out of the factory that says. Am jeon not handle so they definitely were a part of that But yeah it's pretty much bang on with qa interior. It has seven hundred fifty. One horsepower like the launch control function zero to sixty in three change. And it won't be as fast as a model as plan. I don't know if you really needed to be. This should be on paper at least a good competitor to taikang turbo s. This car is a lot bigger than tycoon. Turbo it's a. It's a big car. So it's it's a lot of car to throw around corners but you know it's cool I think we have a an l. Wwl teepee range of four hundred and like seventy some miles. Yeah that's not be on cars. Yeah we know. That's that's probably going to be lower when you know for united states did mercedes give any sort of taste on what that's gonna be because not that i remember off the top of my head. I don't think the battery capacity is increased. Emma wrong on that i. I don't have that insulin front of me. I just know. I i saw the four seventy mile range and i was like well that that sounds really really good but we know the probably is really generous. I think what knock a hundred off of that. And you're probably in but i mean that'd be the i mean that's still three hundreds of three hundred seventy eight if you knock if you knock one hundred off of that. I mean if you're still talking like three hundred fifty mile range. I mean. I still think that's pretty good i. It's gonna be less than that for what it's worth four car with us with this kind of performance o. I mean it'll charge quickly. It will do all those sorts of things there. Eight hundred volt architecture isn't coming for a few more years than that'll be a big deal for all their cars. But i think that that's a future thing that we don't have just yet. Can we talk about the qb pretty quickly. Because i think it is a pretty quickly. 'cause i'm not certain that it's coming to america. I kinda doubt it. Yeah i think it is didn't Didn't our colleague brad evans right. This up here. Yeah he did on. Let me and. I've got it right here. I got said that yeah. Us sales confirmed it's coming to america the q. a. is the one that's not confirmed yet. My accused is not coming here. That's the one that's been on sale in europe for a few years but this is kind of cool because just i mean i sat in germany. It's a carbon copy of gop car that fricken love Just electrified the interior is the same same size. Mba screen stuff like that. No hyper screen. Nonsense a mess. I mean what do we what do we know. I haven't had much of a chance to look at this. When what do we know about our range off. Because i mean the am g. e. s. is needs And then of course the might have a larger mainstream audience. But i think the qb will be probably the most mainstream of all of these electric offerings right now. So i'm looking at it now. You're getting front and rear electric motors or sixty six point five kilowatt hour lithium ion battery that wwl teepee so again. You've gotta take this number down but in that Estimate four hundred nineteen kilometers. That's two hundred sixty miles so it should be two hundred well. everything. I'm reading including our stories saying about two hundred and fifty two hundred and sixty miles every day. They can do it. I mean i think my problem with the car is none of them. Look as good as their gas counterparts dodge. I think that's a perfect segue. bruce do you have the my back so handy by chance could. Can we talk about that for a second. We can because i've got pulled up here but everyone says it looks bad. Does it looks that bad. It does it. Looks like it's bad it. No okay. So it's like this right. I find it. Looks like one of those prank couple videos where the guy just filled his girlfriend's shampoo bottle with superglue and he's hiding in the other room grinning his ass off about you know over what's about to happen. I mean i mean look at the front of look at the front of this thing. It's bad that's got a lot of face. That's my bod. Version faces the yeah. This is the the mercedes my back e. s. suv that got wrecked crack. So this will come. This is my bach form as a concept will see a non. My balk form aka just iki. Suv next year and then the production car will be on the road. Twenty twenty three the earliest Have a lot of face to face and now think about this for the regular each. Us suv. that's just going to be a giant three point star in the middle. That is way too much face. The my bach grill streaks. Yeah okay you're fully. I mean twenty four inch wheels which could be the first on any production are but i don't know who in the right mind needs twenty four on an electric car. Gotta be range steelers. Yeah that's always bugged me about large wheels. They zap power. They look good. In some instances others not really the interior. It's it's close to. Of course it's going to look nice. You don't have to see the face from in there. I don't know whatever. Whatever i look at that concept i think okay if jim carey ever did another mask movie definitely drive at. This is what he would drive. It is the two tones bad to to turn shouldn't be on. Ekg either for it's where they get a little rambunctious with the two-tone thought. The two-to-one looks classy. I really liked it. I would like to see more with tone as bad. I think if you did a black on silver it would be okay. Black on red is.

"Wonderful though. They did a great job with that car. Mean the economy is going to be great. I get to see along tra- end this weekend for the first time so end. Products from hyundai are very good. Don't don't get me wrong on that but civic type r has the best manual gearchange. I think i've ever felt a car. it has incredible breaks which the velocity doesn't have it as the brembos and i'm one of the few that likes the styling. Civic type bar touched an oath to go with your in. Clint to copy out mine. If i personally had to own it on civic type r below sir and you can get with that dual clutch which is phenomenal. And that's the thing. My wife can't drive a manual. If i actually had to put down the money and buy one as a married man below sir would be the one i would if it was just me out fourth door to it now would probably have to okay. So that was our comment. Section again Thank you very much for your comment smith. Did you have a comment. I'm sorry did you have one that you pulled out. We did get one on email that It's super long. But i i just wanna touch through it because it's something that we don't. We talked about last week a little bit of. We don't talk about much on the program. You're gonna edit that one yet. We were talking about camper vans and cool. Diy vans we. We were talking about like major buses. Yep the the sleds up. When i think we were talking about Saw this email comes in from jessica and just full disclosure when email pop data was like. Wait a minute. I recognize that name. This is actually a somebody that i know out here in south dakota so she says hi chris s and hello christopher b. Who haven't met. I finally got a chance to check out your podcast on the most recent episode. Great fun even though. I normally don't spend much time thinking about cars. See folks we are reaching everybody. That's really rambling about cars And jessica thanks much for sending this in wanted to tell you that idea wide. My hyundai santa fe into a mini camper for boondock and trips. "At the point of the press. Release where. I'm reading through the really really random stuff and i'm trying to like maybe something that we missed. Twenty eight percent increase in torsion rigidity. That's not a bad thing. That's thanks dinner. Platform here is a for you. You boys ready for this fun. Seventy five percent. Increase in suspension mounting. Point ridge yeah. I actually made a note of that. Designed okay well. I think about this though. I don't know how much i don't know how much time you guys have spent any aftermarket but like guys. The goal is to work for it and they'll put the put frame connectors under their car. They'll put the put strut mount braces. I i mean. I think i think those were kind of making a little fun here. But i think those those rigidity points. I think i think are valid. It's it's a thing to point out the new platform underneath those car. It makes me excited alone to drive it. And with a two hundred seventy one horsepower. Yeah sure i mean we could. We could always have a little bit more power. But i don't crucify out. Think you need to crucify subaru for not just blowing up the wrr. Chris keep your hopes up. Maybe they will surprise as the sti and give it nine hundred horsepower horsepower. I just want a respectable upgrade. The i don't need the the. Wrx has never had stupid amounts of power. But we've been saying the same thing about the z. That only got twenty year over forty horsepower. More that people are excited about that. It's not necessarily the power. It's actually aspirated. engine though. Like with a turbocharger. You expect more. I necessarily it's always. It's it's about the power band. Like i said i'm not even i'm not even joking here. I've i'm very interested to learn more. About how the new engine in the wrx stacks up to the oldest. In the way it's using its power I mean the we had the same thing. Go down with. If you remember what was it. How a couple of years ago with ford's ecoboost mustang with the performance pack or the like. Yeah we've got the engine out of the focus. Rs mustang now. It's like you doing all of this work. And all of this effort to make like five or ten more horsepower over the regular echo booze. Why don't you just put a cold air kid in two on the stand and the standard engine. Save a lot of money in. It's it's it's how that power is used that engine the irs engine had a different power band a goes to the ground. A little bit in that in turn affects the performance of the vehicle. I i respect that. And you know what i'll just like with chevy talking to smith. Hey subaru you guys wanna talk to me you wanna send me on the wrx drive and prove me wrong. Let's go. i'm fine with that but let's let's get to some questions of last week's episode. Because i think we've kind of exhausted. This i think we have. This is all brand new brand new information. The silverado the subaru. We did have some. We did some comments To talk about from last week and we have some emails. Do you wanna start bruce. I do so. I want to start with one that came in via email. And you know what i. I didn't lose it. Ha this is from our buddy jo di. He came up with actually a really good comment on our youtube. That i want to expand into a full topic at some point smith where he wants us against the original vehicle and the vehicle that revived it. So the first one that came to my mind was beat overseas new beetle That late mid nineties late nineties camaro versus revived camera. Stuff like that But we kind of don't have enough time for that tonight since we have three of us. Joe zaia also sent this question and it's just fun it's quick. You guys have to pick one of these. I'm gonna go lasts for mall. Since i'm the one asking so clint smith so you get to pick one of these vehicles or the other. So ferrari four eighty eight or lamborghini. Her on for eighty-eight oricon also hurricane. Wrong now right along. Ferraris prestigious lamborghini is just way to saudi. But that's just me okay. tesla model s platt. Porsche tycoon turbo turbo. "silverado" Discussed on Motor1.com Podcast
"I can't say they didn't specify that those are the same screens but the fact that the sizes are the same suggests me. those are the same screens. yeah i think they. They must be. And i think that's running the new generation of infotainment for them which is a big deal and that's going to really modernize things and probably improve processing speeds and all that too so i told you right before we started the podcast. I cannot believe that the chevy tahoe and suburban missed the boat without that infotainment setup. But because they're such high profile high selling cars for them. But i guess they need to make a statement to and putting into silverado. I is in a bad way to do that. And the other thing worth their while to other things worth noting trucks with the bucket seats like you're seeing here. They get this new electronic shift by wire gearshift and the high country which is the range topping model. They get all of this open poor. Would that you're seeing soon. I mean they're they're definitely trying to aim the bar little bit higher ever since ram came out with their current generation. I mean i think that raise the bar of everybody else and then four to respond now. Finally chevrolet is responding with the silverado But i don't know guys. My my father is going to hate this. Because he's had silverados for several years and he really likes his but i mean it's still number three on my list. There might even be number four beneath toyota. In fact it's definitely number four beneath toyota as far as full-sized trucks i would take despite their best efforts with this with this new offering. It's just i. I'm still not happy with the front end. Look it just kinda has sort of the. i mean. it doesn't have quite the same broiler pan grill that my wife used to call it when it first came out. It's like a list. Look broiler and he put it in the oven. This kind of just just very very awkward in in your face The styling here is a little bit better but it still just it looks. It looks both awkward. And like it's trying too hard at the same time in my in my mind but with the toyota. You just mentioned doesn't have that we're showing here. Is that the high country which is again. The range topping model it will be available with optional. Chevy's Advanced driving system. Subaru's thank you. It's just fun to say it is. It is super cruise. So you will be able to get super crews on the range topping model as an option and that will actually come with a trailing system that will be able to figure out how much mass your trailer ways behind you and we'll be able to adapt braking distances. It will also have an oscillation system that if your your trailer starts to sway back and forth it will be able advise the driver and tell them to take control because apparently super fruits isn't smart enough to do that. But this is the first truck to have supercrew. So that's a new piece at tap unless i'm mistaken in the escalate has that but i'm not certain that it does because i think you can tell with an escalator is going to have that upgrade. We covered that Sharing announced it like a month or so six weeks months or month or so ago We also already know because of that. Same announcement the gmc. Sierra is going to have the same tack once that's refreshed debuts. It just cracks me up that we saw suv occurs a couple of years ago. We got the test that this is fantastic. This is a nice really industry leading or at least on par with industry leading kit and nothing in the last model year had hit. They put it to sleep and then revived it with the escalate. But it's amazing to me that entr. Gm farm they have this wonderful attack and then they put it to sleep another just starting to roll it out widespread in the lineup. It is cool that you can tow it now too because you know when you talk about your escalade your silverado. Sierra stuff like that those are vehicles that a lotta people are telling with them and so being able to have that functionality an have your super cruise. That's free cool agree. Four ford is rolling out blue. Crews they're starting to These acronyms in these names are gonna get a lot. Funnier beheaded another future my friends but they're ready to get ready to cruise in as many different ways as you can. I am i showing my age. Here in saying that i'm not comfortable super cruising while towing a trailer i do. I just feel like that requires a lot more attention behind the wheel. It's i mean if you're i voted untold trailers. I mean. of course. I think i generally try to pay more attention than on a lot of people on the road. Arrogant and saying that But why be. When i'm telling a trailer or in a bigger vehicle i'm just i'm paying more attention. I'm not. I'm comfortable. But i'm not relaxed. If you understand what. I'm saying. I feel like i feel like we super crews towing a trailer. It would just be very easy to kinda zone. Forget your toy freaking house behind you and then see super cruise. it's just was s it. Let's see how it does. But i mean we can't. We can vouch for how well the software works. it's end the hardware. I guess the whole system. When i got to do it on the highway for a little bit and it is true hands off when appropriate and it starts to tell you one is no longer handoffs. I mean it does those things the right way. So i believe in this system. They did a great job of it. So i'm not sure if the ford system actually mentioned anything about telling that something i have to look up. I don't think it does. I haven't heard that i. yeah. I don't know right now the same with blue crew's whether you can tell with it so that's a good point and also smith. The thing is a chevy. If you're listening. Invite smith on whatever drive you guys are doing pursue convince me and show him 'cause you know he'll come on the podcast and tell us. Oh yeah. i'll find a car that let's see south dakota. I'll find a cool car over like in virginia. Maybe thirty five hundred dollar show. But i'll pick up a no wait if it's gonna be chevy A c. three corvette project car. I'll go. I'll go across the way pick it up. We'll tow it with a new silverado super crews and i'll determine if it's smarter than i am horse it smarter than i am but Technology the last big upgrade for the silverado is involves two of its engines so the base two point seven liter turbocharged four cylinder. It now makes four hundred twenty pound feet of torque. It made three hundred forty eight hundred feet before..
"silverado" Discussed on Motor1.com Podcast
"Launches a bunch of new electric cars chevrolet launches a new silverado and we launching the diatribes about all of them and later on. We're also gonna talk about some future exciting stuff that's going to be going on the podcast. So stay tuned for that fanatic fans. It is podcast time. i'm. Christopher smith crossed the ways chris bruce. And there's another person in the house today. Yeah we have. Clint simoni with us again. You guys let sides to let me in. You didn't lock the door this time around. No we forgot their locks on the doors canal. Not as far as i can tell you just kick the white open boy could get dicey. Let's get this show on the road so as we're recording right now. Technically the i two things were be talking about are still under embargo So news yeah. We know more than you do but So let's get this show started and we will talk about the refresh. Twenty twenty two chevrolet silverado. I want to stop you for a second bruce. Do we really know more than they do right now. Because we're kind of getting this. I mean this info is like coming to us pretty fresh today. It's a it's a couple of days ahead of everybody else is gonna learn. It hasn't leaked anywhere from what i've seen. Either i mean. I mean i i know bruce has all the info because he already he wrote about silverado. I attended the background. I wrote up our story. It's all as you can see here. It's all set to go But as of right now yeah. It's still technically under embargo. So we'll get this thing started can can stay that way because look at what's better. No actually let's let's let's. Let's give our listeners here. A little a little dope about what's going on. Tell them what's new new chevrolet silverado. It's refreshed four. Twenty twenty two bruce. Tell us all about a man so all models basically get a new front facial and a little bit of a new grille thank god but really. The upgrades are for the lt trim and above The big news is that there's a new jersey to model and Chevy is positioning that as their flagship off road silverado It is don't kinda. Get your hopes up. This is not a raptor. This is not a ram trx. It still gets the six point two liter. V eight naturally aspirated that are in other versions of the silverado. So you get four hundred twenty horsepower. Four hundred sixty pounds of torque. But you know some you know it's weird to say that four hundred twenty horsepower in the modern world up kind of performance. Pickup is impressive. Because that's still a healthy number but you do get Forty millimeter diameter multi-ethnic d. s. v. i. Dampers you Springs that allow for extra wheel travel at the front and back you get front and rear eli lockers and you get kind of a modified body different bumpers that allow four and improved approach and departure ankle. So if they're not going for raptor it kind of sounds like they're trying to go for raptor or or at least they're trying to build something that people might say instead of rafter. I'll get this. I mean you were because you were on the backgrounder you tell us. That question came up. Didn't it did see someone specifically asked. Does this compete against the raptors. Trx end chevy. They the people that were speaking. They kind of pooh-poohed that they were like no. This is its own thing. This is a medical works well off road but is also works well on road. That's because they know we wanna do comparison tests with the trucks and this thing would probably be taken out to lunch but they also chevy hasn't had a seat at this table. They haven't had a raptor competitor. They haven't had a trx so they put together an offered trim and they say this is the closest you're gonna get for a while good luck. I'm sure they can shove a bigger engine in this. Where would they source. That engine from you guys are smarter than i am with this. You don't need a bigger engine in this the raptors four hundred and fifty horse power. This was what i'm sorry. This is this is four twenty. I mean this is celeste. Yeah i mean that segments aside from the ramp people that are just obsessed. Yeah i mean. That's gobs a power and they're more interested in the kind of early off aspect you don't need. You don't need to be pumping a lot of horsepower into ziara to to make it a raptor fighter. You just need to upgrade the suspension which some some beefier tires which they did already three inch mud terrain tires on eighteen inch wheels. I mean i don't understand why they're a little gun shy. Unless clint like you said it's just yeah they upgraded the suspension. But it still just not quite the same level but it isn't there their bureau footage floating around now. There is unfortunately because of the embargo and because of our site. I can't show it yet right. I don't have. I can't show it yet. But but but they're they're basically comparing it to some of their efforts which Where have we heard that before. Raptor i just so. I'm not offroad geek. That's going to be really excited about all the kit. I'm more excited that they've brought the interior to a point where it can compete with the other trucks in its segment. These are big changes. Remember like we've been driving off for the last few years the infotainment was about yea big and it was felt completely behind the times you get into an f. One fifty or any new ram and they feel sensational. They feel like luxury products and the silverado. As far and away behind. But they took the infotainment. And really really beefed up and you can see the little thing on the steering wheel. Super cruise is finally here. Yeah so i'll say it looks much better inside than outside. I mean i'll give him credit there and so clinton raises some very good points. So on the lt tram and above. So that's your l. That's your news. Er to your high country stuff like that you are getting a new Kind of a completely new digital instrument cluster and digital Infotainment screen that even see here. The looking at the numbers now. The instrument cluster measures. Sorry i believe it's twelve point. Four twelve point three inches and the infotainment is thirteen. Thirteen point four inches. Both of those diagonal and if those numbers sound familiar those are the exact same figures that the new hummer evey are going is going to have..

GM going electric
"Starting things off talking about general motors engines. And the reason we're doing that are two very interesting in pieces of news. We've got Last week gm announced that as of twenty thirty five th they are going to stop offering internal combustion engines in their light cars so basically you might still be able to get a va in your silverado. Twenty five hundred or something like that but vast majority of their vehicles probably even performance stuff like your corvette if the camaro still around then those are all going to be e vs or maybe plug in hybrids but basically gas a purely gas powered engines are not in their future and so i wrote up the road up the story last week and it really got my gear. Spit on that. You know g. m. is one of the oldest auto makers in the world nerd. They've got over one hundred years of history and there are some absolutely fantastic internal combustion engines in that town at also. Interestingly this week. I'm this is a story that you wrote about it is at you know. Cadillac announced that the new cto four. V black-wing c. T. v. black wing. Those are going to be the last v models from cadillac with internal combustion engines and so it really seems like gm serious about this at least for right now So yeah it's it's a weird time. Jim anything to add about the cadillac part of that. Well i mean yes. And no. I guess the bigger question is whether or not gm can actually pull this off than our commenters brought up as well as you know. Twenty thirty is a long time and time away make makes promises that doesn't necessarily keep so they they sometimes don't always follow through most of the all of the time. Maybe i i. I don't wanna sound too harsh on gm. Because i mean they're they're they're going forward and and i mean frankly they have to go for it right. The whole industry is moving in that direction. And we're we're faced with a gm lineup right. Now that is pretty much almost completely devoid of any electrification Damning they have some Just wanted just a couple of vehicles right off the top of my head. Of course they've got the the gmc hummer okay. i. I don't know if a hundred and ten thousand dollar luxury electric pickup truck is really going to be the the mainstream savior but yeah fourteen. Years can get there and cadillac. I mean these These amazing looking sports sedans. That's going to be the the end
Alive: The Drew Robinson Story
"Jeff where does the story of drew robinson began. The story. Drew robinson begins on magic moment lane in las vegas jeff passan is in mlb insider for espn and his work on the story of drew robinson is up now on espn plus it was just all those those little tiny amazing details down to the name of the street that he grew up on that drew me to him. As a person has a character and his story and he was precocious. What's the first thing people think about you guffaw. I did my best to try to lighten the situation with people. I tried to make people laugh. And i thought that i was good at that. He was the kid youngest of three children who would go next door and sneak through his neighbors doggy door and steal their treats so he could bring him back to this menagerie of animals that he had in his house. There were dogs that were cats. They had a pet in a cage and drew is the kid who would tape his feet to a bicycle and go on a trampoline in his backyard and just bounce around without any care his sister brittany used to hate having him around because drew would take off all of his clothes. Run outside and start riding a bike and her friends would say your brothers naked again. He was also an incredible baseball player and from a very young age even though he wasn't big even though he wasn't strong he had the actions. That coaches look at. And say this kid ever fills out. He is going to be something else but when drew was at that age where he needed to tell his feelings to someone where where he needed to explain that he had this. Lingering doubt in his mind that would never go away regardless of the situation. Whether it was with baseball whether it was with school with friends with family there is always something air pushing him toward this negativity that he just could not escape from can think back to. When i was twelve years old playing little league. I was a kid every single time i struck out i would come in and slam. My bad slammed my helmet kreil time. Because i thought that i had to be perfect in every aspect of my life in terms of the scouting report on drew robinson war his best attributes. He had a lot of power. you know. he's left handed hitter. He ended up hitting that growth spurt. Six foot one hundred ninety pounds. Just a beautiful swing gap the gap power. That was gonna grow into something more if his body filled out and when it did man like he was an actual prospect. I fly all get to right field at that splashdown run for drew. Robinson being a prospect in las vegas in two thousand ten pablo was no small thing. There was a player who had left high school and gone to play junior college ball named bryce harper. Yup and there was a player at bonanza high school. One of the rivals of silverado were drew named kris bryant. So this was a pretty historic high school class and drew wound up making all state. Shortstop and teams were really intrigued. Not just by the power but by his versatility to he played shortstop but they thought he projected his second baseman third baseman. Maybe an outfielder. The possibilities of what drew robinson could be as a baseball player were endless. So scouts were noticing the power versatility and in two thousand ten drew graduates from high school and get drafted. He gets drafted by the texas rangers in the fourth round. And it's a huge moment for him but it doesn't translate in the end jeff too. Big league play what happens. Well he took a while to get to the big leagues. And you know we've seen bull durham and we understand kind of on a surface level. What the minor leagues are like. But for drew it was truly agree. I knew i was beard. Don't get me wrong. But in the moment i was still like. Don't mess this up. I wouldn't allow myself to understand. That mistakes are just mistakes. It doesn't define who. I was

"Coast George nor you with you Denise Silverado was last with us about six years ago we were talking about her work all the voodoo doll spell book she is a New Orleans born native creole raised in the voodoo and hoodoo rich culture of New Orleans she has studied indigenous healing traditions from a personal professional academic perspective for more than four decades she's the author of numerous books about southern conjurer and the first to do magazine who do and conjures she is a roof worker in the Louisiana voodoo tradition a spiritual artist and a teacher of southern conjure or aunts crossroads university welcome back thank you for having me very great to be here tell me what conjure means what is that what a wonder what is conjurer with we're with regards to voodoo well your is that's so that's kind of a big question it refers to the magical aspect of the practice and includes summoning spirit conjuring up the spirits I guess right right yeah it's definitely it has to do with working with with spirits and you know doing magic basically is evil or not what help is not evil conjure it depends on who's doing it okay as to what effect it will have so you know a lot of healing can come from conjure you know people help there's situations and can help other people based in conjuring very is fact or influences on condition yeah but then again it depends on who's doing is the so conjures practice can be done to hurt and harm well exactly and what is a route to worker well our route worker is someone who also does conjure but they work with some herbs okay and plant animal part and mineral almost like a shaman would sort of yeah yeah now Marie lebeau of course have been a lot of books written about the Marie he and you have written a good one call the magic of Marie lebeau tell us a little bit about this person and who wash but most people know about her is being visited queen of New Orleans that's like the most common reference to her but those of us who are from New Orleans we know her as a full answer for really function as a nurse she served our community by helping people the who suffer from yellow fever and smallpox home a lot of the pretty bad epidemic that were going on during the eighteen hundreds she help people who needed a place to stay even the doctors one little boy she gave Flav is on the run a place to a safe place to be she very people in her tomb who couldn't afford one own slated to be very concerned very heartwarming person yeah that's a part of you know that's the engineering side of her that we you know know her that that the most important part of her how did you get so famous because of her deeds well you know she left a pretty big legacy on New Orleans because because not only was she you know the the philanthropist that we know she was a devout Catholic but she also practice mood is so that was I was in no no Terrel if you're Catholic actually no because she had actually had the approval of the priest at the time father on one and they had a little thing worked out in fact he and she were very close throughout her whole life he baptized her and and he schooled her in the tenets of the Catholic faith he was a long while she was alone because they were together when the nurse you know sick people of suffering from a plague in town from yellow fever so they had a they had a a really close relationship actually and they handled this whole thing worked out to where she she was more in favor or as a voodoo practitioner by the Catholic Church than other voodoo queen for because she would bring her congregation into the church whereas the other ones encourage their congregations to stay away so as long as she was able to bring people into the church father Antoine allowed her to carry on rituals out in the back of Saint Louis these are all one which is in the war lines not Saint Louis Missouri right right right so they they have a good little arrangement going on so she was able to bring them you know her congregants to the to the Catholic Church and they agreed you know and they were able to to do some ceremonies in a behind the church but it'll also the man who is not so different than a lot of ways there wasn't really a big stretch one is though Denise get a bad rap for being somewhat number you know cultish an evil I mean it it does and it's not but it does get that rap yeah it definitely does and that stems way back from the propaganda and and misunderstanding of the colonists to be Frank really yeah yeah if you look at the newspaper articles that are that were printed in the eighteen hundreds early nineteen hundreds even now a lot of time but back then they would be really demonized anything African you know they considered anybody indigenous an African to the sub humans so anything they did of course was not understood not accepted and yeah she was partly African native American African American but she owned slaves injury he did she did but she only owned slaves so the only way when she married will she wasn't married she was a common law or put causes but it is what it was called at the time because they were able to marry Christopher right right he was able to take a woman and and support you know supporter and five for children and things like that but they couldn't marry they have sixteen kids now they didn't let's remember our the legend she only had seven children all together yeah yeah he had to have her with the her first husband and then she had five five with a well beyond the cover that you have on the books of magic of Marie lebeau is at an authentic covers or is that just an art artistic sketch that that's an artistic because it looks great yeah that one does cover artwork was done by someone a guy named Matthew six times in the sky sixteen and not sure how to say his last name but that's the credit she's holding a snake and everything else all one of the things that she practice to get her reputation I mean did she do magical spells on people and things like that we go back to the slave owner thing for me sure because there's so much more to that than just you know it is it is weird for an African American she was partly that owned slaves and then not me eighteen hundred that was not she was a free woman of color okay so at during the eighteen hundreds it was not uncommon at all for free people of color to own slaves no she didn't own any slaves until she got with lucky on he that's the husband the common rounds okay right he did own slaves there was a common practice among French and together when they were that is the during the years they were together they owned eight slave and some of them they kept longer than others and and all others they sold but and she and Murray herself in this after he died she never did buy anymore Flay cheat she only had played when she was with with the coming on as well right now one of the things that I had never heard or seen or known until I was you know deep into the research for my book was it was a clue that I found on some descriptions of her personal alters and these are like magical altars yes okay yes her her her magical alters your spiritual alters she had thank you of in a different Saint Saint Peter's name Anthony but she also had a statue of Saint maroon that same maroon is identified as John Saint Malo who's that girl John hello was a not one I don't know well he was in in the latter part of the seventeen hundreds he was the one of the original of the the resistors he was a a maroon which is filet of with a runaway slave basically okay and he was fantastic actually I mean he was before he did not want to be a slave so what he did was he ran away to the swamp he develop alliances with a note with the local native people and he ended up bringing in like fifty other people with him into the swamp any set of entire communities that were self sufficient and they engaged in making like crafted they sold to the townspeople and a big they had a whole economy of lumber if they would sell ends of town people would buy it from them because they were it was cheaper he was like home depot before home depot all right kind of forty yeah and so they in they lived in the swamps they raise their children and families in caves and hollowed trees and they were high during the day so they only came out you know during Dustin and at night time and I mean it was just it was amazing network of successful resistance that he commandeered and eventually he was in he was thought the whole time of course by authorities and eventually he was caught and he was made an example of an tortured and hung Jeez in front of the church but this row Christian thing to do but well they have they have their days deny so anyway so if that is so after after that happened what happened it was a backlash because they thought that you know what they're getting back at Saint maroon with who he was actually what we call same around that time status knew him a son Milo and they called his quote unquote gangs on Melo band a runaway slave and so after he died the way he is and the way he died if they actually turn him into a martyr and hero really well yes he didn't expect that duty well right so still in local African Americans full color slaves they all looked up to him because of everything that he did to maintain this free community and you know set these people up and and and and that kind of thing and.

You don't just build a truck for for one purpose? You gotta give the customers options new twenty twenty HD Silverado. Does I like the fact that it's it's very in your face and bold? But it still feels like it Silverado. It was interesting to roll into the factory in Flint Michigan, by the way. What a experience to go. See those things put together there's a there is a lot of work that goes into building one of those. But to see them all sitting out in the parking lot like hundreds and hundreds of them waiting to be shipped to new owners. I just wanted to run touch them. All it was really exciting been to the Frank trian Flynn. I have I got to tell you. That's one of the most cool extremes. Go into an assembly line. You see any vehicle just being put together, and it just all happens, very fast. I mean, we we roll them off every every thirteen seconds or something like that. It's amazing how fast integrated everything works those plants. I was kind of shocked because they had so during the HD revealed you in the press conference well-rehearsed put together at a huge big area of the factory all lit up. They had stands and seats out, and you know, microphones and music and lights, and it was it was like a concert came to town. But there was all these crates sitting back there like hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of crates, and I went poking around off after it, and they basically all contained a piece of the flat. Bottom piece in the back of the bed for these trucks. And I started went well how many of these in a single stack and there was like twenty five and there must have been like four four hundred of these stacks of these things. That's a lot of trucks a lot of bed. Pots all sitting in one area. It's unbelievable. How many trucks you make an Anna there? I tell you. And it's you know, it's one of those. The one roof you think one thing just what's up. It's shabby nothing nothing nothing messes up. There's there's people in in colored vests and big hardhats that walk around making sure that those things don't go wrong. All right. Let's get to the truck itself. Obviously you guys super excited about it. Huge big truck, we're talking about America's workhorses one of the things that we heard right from the beginning. Was you guys just didn't wanna upscale the regular Silverado? You wanted to make a truck goes specifically for those that needed a heavy duty truck.
