"It's in casinos. Nothing else comes close. All right, Welcome back. So, as I said, some rivalries never die and just last week out of nowhere. Brandon Dubinsky joined a podcast and shredded his old nemesis while discussing the sit and over debate, calling Sid a whiner and went as far saying, F said kind of random considering the bench. He's no longer been a league. Um, but here was Sid's here was his response to to it all. Hey, could say whatever he wants. If you guys have any more hockey questions, I'd be happy to answer those And that's basically it. Why all the hate Still I love this rivalry the river when it was when it was going on in the league. I don't know if you remember when Dubinsky was Running around chasing Crosby all the time. But This clearly is is Still, what is what is Sidney Crosby, known for? Class. What is he? What is he gonna be known as Champion. Greatest player under one of the greatest players ever. Point producing freak face of the NHL, blah, blah, blah, blah. Been ski who's known for what He's the agitator, either. You know, he's a good, hard nosed player, a good career. Exactly. Point taken. Yeah, but I think yeah, He just wants to say that because that's what everyone does. Now they go on these podcasts and they tell stories, and they They want to, you know, seems somewhat larger than life. I don't know that I would ever go on and a podcast and Shred anybody, But really, I mean, shred Sidney Crosby to begin with. But why? Why is he doing it? I mean, why he's doing it maybe relevance. I don't. I don't know. I don't know. You don't seem You don't seem torto. Not not necessarily not interested, but I mean, you don't seem to really think I think I think Brandon Dubinsky had a really nice career. I think he was really strong, physical kid. I think he played against the best players and tried to shut them down. In the same time. He put up some solid points. He's you know, he was You know, maybe like a 40 point player, a year type guy. He's a good hockey player. I don't understand. You're 34 years old. You retire. You had a great career, and you've got to say this crap about Sidney Crosby. Come on, man. Here's what Dubinsky said. I'll call you out all day long. I would say it to its face right now. Two years with the Minsky said, I had a great career. Shut your mouth and right off into the sunset, but Here's what he said. He said, Listen, he tweeted this out. On April 2nd Listen, Crosby is better than me. I never said he wasn't He? Obviously He's obviously one of the best ever. It was stupid. A statement I've ever heard always said none of you played in the NHL and know how hard it is to score goals in the NHL. 724 is insane, said just wind way too much and over. You just shut up and played hard. So that's basically what he was saying. But For anyone to say that all these better than said. I think he's crazy, and I think he's just saying that because he hates it. I mean, how scoring titles that Sidney Crosby have. He's won three Stanley Cups. He scored the game winning goal in the Olympics, like, Come on, let me ask you this last question before we get out of here. Do you think they would feel differently? About one another? How they ever come and play together? We have 30 seconds here. We gotta go. Listen, you listen. I mean, looking at you, and I wanted to kill you. The first day you walked in the locker..

"sidney crosby" Discussed on 31 Thoughts: The Podcast

"I want to be healthy. I WanNa have fun one. enjoying the moment when I'm on the ice there's been some greats goal scorers in the history of the NHL child certainly Wayne Gretzky holds the all time record Mike Bossy rock every show the there's been wonderful goalscorers many people though will say Alex Ovechkin is the best goal scorer or the NHL has ever seen. What do you think when you hear people say that visit. It's nice to hear it but again if you take those those names it was a different area. It was a different hockey. They were things changing so quickly and you know why came to the League fifteen years ago and hockey was different and if even you can look hockey like four years ago was different hockey young guys came come into the League. They show that speed this show this skill and new generations. GonNa come after four years and there's GonNa be you're GonNa talk to mark Davis and the or Dikhil and they're going to okay wow look at this guy how like he's bring so much different stuff to the hockey you know and you wanted to learn so every year. Something's changing than in in the hockey. Fisher well one thing that's not changing anytime soon as you're still a key piece of it and one of the most fun players to watch. It's been a delight so far. No you say oh two years and we'll see but the NHL is going to be much poor when you're not part of it. Thanks so much for doing this. I think I like Geico Alex. Ovechkin Elliott got real hot about visors. That's still bugs him that he's not allowed to wear the tint advisors on the part of being liars guts. That's in the chef's kiss as well they. NFL has changed that you can wear tinted visors now in the NFL. I don't know if you need a medical reason to do it or you just can but there is a rule now in the nfl you can do that. It was a cool lucky had when he started in the land I think he was he was early. He was before his time is funny like hearing the regrets grads like you talked about the beginning of the interview crosby talking about the referees and now veteran with this. It's good stuff and I'm still blown away that this is their fifteenth year. Yeah here's my first off. I Pre Game Interviews Alec December Twenty Nine. Two thousand seven against Ottawa. Ron was teen you up for Toronto Ron. Oh Yes at first we go to Ottawa Geoff Merrick from Hakkinen Candidate Radio Bench side with Alex Ovechkin Alex. Yeah my first I interview on high thoughts on Alex Ovechkin wrap up here crosby. I think that guy's GonNa play forever as as long as he can. He lost time and you can see that. It means a lot to him now. He's coming up on his thousandth game that that whole thing is really interesting to me about his health. One of my favorite baseball players Mike Schmidt Mike Schmidt quit two months into the nineteen nineteen eighty nine season and he said I can't play at my level. It would be really something if he was within striking distance you're of Gretzky and he just said No. I'm not if I'm not that. Guy Can't snap forty. I'm not coming back but the thing is I love that attitude. If I'm not going to be the best I'm not going to be here. I love it. Someone told me that Nick Lidstrom had a bit of that too he was. We left and he's getting norris trophy. Yes and for one thing it was family concerns and secondly with some of the Red Wings told me that some of his issue was if I'm not going to be what I expect for myself breath. I'm not playing. I have so much time for that attitude. Hope you enjoy those interviews. thanks as Sidney crosby. Thanks Alex Ovechkin for being generous with their time we will take you out now with an artist had just released his seventh studio album with city of glass. Here's Eamon McGrath style calling the pellets out there just bro. Aw Aw thank thank you uh-huh you all the Messenger. The message is show calling all the generals the call..

"sidney crosby" Discussed on 31 Thoughts: The Podcast

"The one word that always comes to my mind right away is awareness. You told that Alex also veterans story off the top of the The podcast I've got one about crosby that use every now and then when I talked to young hockey players so I'll do like group discussions for various agencies talking young hockey players what to expect how to handle social media how to handle traditional media interviews all that kind of stuff and the one story that that I always come back to this is before the Vancouver Olympics this team Canada orientation camp in Calgary and it was one of the Knights was having dinner with a couple of friends from the media and a couple of players from Canada Rhonda have a meal as well and up at the bar having a beer and crosby cosby was there and someone sort of tapped us or ham. I can't recall on the shoulders at eighty mind. If we take a picture and Crosby said Yeah of course arsons they wanted a few of us in the picture with with Crosby and I noticed so subtle the first thing that Sydney it did was he took one of the groups beers that was closest to everyone and pushed it away to make sure that it wasn't in the photo just to make sure that because we all had pictures before where you get a picture maybe you're blinking and you look like you're a half buckled and you can see a beer beside someone who will oh look. There's crosby buckled at some Barin the last thing you need and I just thought to myself not only is this guy aware of everything happening on the ice at all times. Sometimes he's aware of every frame that he's in with photographs and didn't want that bottle of beer to be in a picture with him. It's it's great attention to detail like hockey player right yeah. That's what I'm saying. I've just heard that there's a lot of low key. Sidney crosby is be acts of kindness that we're never going to know about as runs a car service five-star parking taking the pay for that much is that worth so I bet you parks lots of GMC's though my buddy Chaz so he's doing doing work in the Rogers Cup and Crosby was going one day and it's right beside the gardens at Drake University so across pulls up and chas going to park his his car and caused like there's a rink there and Chaz like yeah he goes think there's any kids there and she has what would imagine so so you think you pull out of his gym bag or something thing like a stack of eight by ten and a Sharpie and he said come get me in fifteen minutes as going to go sign some autographs for kids and and went into the rink unannounced any kid that wanted he's very much aware of who he is and how influential he is just come and get me in fifteen minutes and just went into the rink and for fifteen minutes signed autographs with pictures you already had a bunch of kids and then went and watched the ten not surprised at all aw that's crosby on thirty one thoughts the podcast will dovetail to Alex Ovechkin you know when they came into the League League Sydney had a lot of Polish to them city cries became an illegal playing from the Rimouski Oceanic of the J. Challe and he already looked and behaved like a Pro Alex came in rock and roll one use the key to open the door to get to the NHL the other kicked the door down and that was Alex Ovechkin who had a lot of rock and roll and and was Brash and unpolished and rock and roll and Gordon that had hard at hit hard and everything was larger than life with Alex Ovechkin. I'm glad we caught him. When we did for this interview because does he really gets reflective about things in the path and specifically things he wished he could change or would change around him. Their regret question is always an interesting one for athletes pather double digit years in their career with that Alex Ovechkin. The Washington capitals the conn Smythe Trophy Valuable Player of the two thousand eighteen Stanley Cup playoffs trophy as the most valuable player the way off the leading goalscorer the playoffs and the Captain Alex predictable of that will go nicely with the Stanley Cup in the heart of the colder at the shots charts two summers ago Alex Ovechkin. It was all about swimming in the fountains. What was this off off season like for number eight spending time with family just to recover my body and my brain and go back to work. You know you talked last summer a vote fatherhood and how great it was a year later Alex like how much has it changed. You being a dad to change a lot. soon as you have a free time. Just is one of those spent time with a little one and see how he grows up. you know he's walking right now. Start Walking he started talking a little a bit and the change is just give you smile and happiness soc- I wonder like the one parent is always the disciplinarian. No you can't can't do this. No you can't do that. There's always one parent says I'm just going to let the kid do whatever they want. Which one are you on the second one my wife. My wife is said Said No. I'm saying all the time yes you can do that. You can do this same with my dog so my dog can do whatever he wants. One my mom when my wife was over there then he started trading in Canada. We always asked this question. Even early on left hand shot right hand shot. I don't give him a stick right now yet but I'm pretty sure he's going to be a maybe a lefty. usually does well now now eight. We'll see we'll see. I'm going to give them to sticks and we'll see how how he's going to take a stick. All the good thing about that is Alex that means you guys can play opposite nightside on the power play probably going to be retired. After eighteen years come on a couple of hours ago we talked to Sidney crosby sitting in that chair and we asked him you know you look back at your first couple years in the NHL. What do you think and he said Oh. I really didn't like the way that I behaved around referees and when you look back at the early part of your career. What do you look at you say I wish I would have acted differently for Crosby was about referees. What about you. I'm always always good with the referees. I think I would learn English a little bit quicker because sometimes with a company or the you go out with the guys. you know for dinner and you can even say something so those kind of hard but nothing can change you know I'm mm from different county I or my life talking to one another which and then I came and I have to change my language. It was hard but nothing you can do right now right so it's interesting to hear you say that. Alex because that first year you tried to do every interview. I think people respected that because they knew English wasn't your first language switch yeah because I want to be the prince with everybody. I want to understand the joke understand. was happening. You know in the conversation sometimes I was over the Zubrus and Brian Willsie was my roomy and while we're talking and he's I don't understand him. You know the send me and other than that he was patient and he gave me of someone who is is healer me a lot. He teach me a lot about languages about how to do this. I can do that and you know. I was like a little boy with a big parents around me. You Know Fifteen Years Alex this does your fifteenth season. It just seems like yesterday we remember you yeah going on is for the first time in the NHL senior. I goal scoring the coyotes. He's goal scoring the coyotes call. It seems like it's gone so fast yet and I never forget when we have dinner with a serious thoroughfare in Victor Kozlov me Salmon GaAs lava and feds who was young right. We was twenty four twenty pipe and those guys played like two years in the League lost two years in the league and they said like listen just stop smiling like just enjoy that moment come on man like we still have like ten or twelve more years in the career right now like this is my fifteenth year and there always will remember that what's those guys telling me and time flies does and when you came to the NHL I mean you had a really cool. Look that was way before. Its time now. Players are starting to come out of their shells more be more expressive whether it's on the ice off the ice and here's Ovechkin with the grunge style style low pants with painting skates blades different colors painting things on the on the tuxes well tinted visor. You had a really cool cool look. Would you ever think now the players are being allowed to be more expressive on the ice. Would you ever look at bringing any of those things back. Yeah Tins Adviser for sure I love that I think if player wants to do tints wiser you should you know I think it's a bullshit to listen. The goal is and said like we can see the ice where he shooting how you can see this Blue Line. Come on so cheaters yeah. They are then their goal is so I think they're all should change but I think you have to be creative. You know because offense law. We've played for offense right defense. wants to see. I'm not like regular guys the one that sees him stars. They WANNA see some some fashion. They want to see something new and it's all about when you look at where you're at right now and how you play the game. I remember talking to a lot of people when you first started and I thought to myself. I said look at how aggressive this player is going to the net hard every single shift. I still remember your. I couple of shifts in the in the NHL laying guys. Oh I remember saying to myself. This guy's GonNa hurt himself like really hurt himself out there if he's going to hope to have a long career and you never really changed at all at any point. Did you say to yourself. you know what. I can't keep doing this to myself. I maybe need to take the foot off the peddle a little that mean Eliot Mentions fifteen years. That's hard hockey. You've played for fifteen years. I think it's because of my style because I'm healthy enough to get get a hit. give a head on My body gets used to it. You know like even when we play basketball or wherever I'm still play aggressive. I still want to have contact with different players. You know it's something that my blood I think especially on the ice like even we don't have a contact in a game. I Still WanNa make a hit because I see like the guy with the head down and while this is a moment to get a hit and like you don't want to do it. You know it's not a regular game game but in the regular game yeah like if you have a chance to hit someone. Why not you know it's just show your strange and thank you. You get more respect from your teams if you play hard. We're sitting here on Friday afternoon earlier today. You met with a bunch of other media and you said maybe only two more years now. You're joking looking when you said that right. That's not the note I'm going to play two more years and I say when we can start talking about new deal and he he said I don't know you know. It's hard for me to say what's going to happen but I'm pretty sure like mean Tad and Mad GonNa talk about it. and we will decide. You know you have a young son that was we talked about the start and I'm sure you want your son to learn Russian and be in Russia. Does that change your feeling about how long you might be North America at all. No I think for him he's going to be any way to languages because because Oh maybe three languages. I don't know maybe he's GonNa Learn Mexican language. You know I think for us. It's most important thing is to get healthy. The you know like if you healthy and you can still play the game you you WANNA play. You should think about okay. Maybe a couple more years. If not I don't WanNa be the player who like you know sign a contract and then like okay like I'm hurt and I'm just gonNA give paycheck than You just enjoy my life. Not I won't do it three years ago. I didn't interview with you with the World Cup of hockey. I asked you about catching Gretzky and you looked at me like I was insane. Okay right now. You're still scoring at an incredible rate. You could do it. Does it matter well of course this matter but how said I'm going to score to three hundred it goes into years right so it's GonNa take whatever five years or six years but I have to be healthy enough to do that and how Oh said. I don't want to play just for the record..

"I mean you you see things differently or experience. Gives you a different outlook. Yeah I mean I'd be hard pressed to give you one example where I've ever felt like I think as you get older. Maybe your role and maybe at twenty five. You don't think you've got to help a younger guy quite as much or or that kind of thing but it just shifts a little bit but I wouldn't say it ever feels like like job. I think those are just things that become a little bit more important just because of your position your aged experience that kind of thing and udopted and find a way to try to do it right. You have never stopped trying to make yourself better so this summer when and you did all your work what was the target. What was the goal to make better. I think just trying to trying to maintain speed. I mean that's the biggest thing that game so fast so the longer you can stay quick and fast you know I think that'll benefit me with with the game getting faster and but there's more time and effort that it takes every year to do that. It just based on age and that kind of thing so that's really what I try to do and I think you know as long as the speeds there then you know as far as making plays and executing that stuff that'll come but that's a pretty important thing especially as a Centerman. Just you know you're covering so much ice over the course of the game so you need to make sure that you're able to get there and make the place you. WanNa to make when you think back or look back. I don't know if you even do this. Go back to junior hockey. You're playing Rimouski Memorial Cup final against London if we just isolated for the entire game sidney crosby shift-by-shift how different with that player look to the player today. What have you changed. I it's funny because I think if you did that a lot of guys you wouldn't see that much change. I think like maybe a few things here and there the way you play like you might be a little more more where defensively things that you pick up over the course time but I think for most guys you'd see a pretty similar player junior as you do in the NHL. I mean what makes you successful. What gets you hear. Usually you rely on that over time but maybe subtle things have changed and I like to think you know experience variance whether it's my game defensively or staying in the moment a little more not getting this frustrated with opposing players or officials or that kind of thing. I think that stuff you develop but as far as your game you know what you're lying. I don't know if that changes a lot east to work a lot with Ryan Whitney one of your teammates who does now a great job drink has I haven't tried. I'm still waiting for my order. Come probably got a lot of orders. Though I remember work in the World Cup of Hockey with wit and Colby will be and the Canada game and you were spectacular and your parents were there and on the air with says he's the first line grinder or superstar grind You've heard that one before. How would you describe yourself like wits point was like he's a superstar but he has a work ethic of grinder? How would you describe yourself. Uh I'd say similar that I think the biggest thing for me just being able to continue to adapt and I like to think I'm a pretty good athlete like I think that I played a lot more grown up. I think that it's good to analyze things and you know it's going to be able to prepare and that kind of thing and have that discipline but ultimately out there that the game's pretty fluid. I mean things exchange a lot over the course of seasons the game changes gets faster the teams play and you have to be able to and I think that's something I rely on. A lot is just the ability to be able to adapt and you know whether it's playing differently in certain situations or improving something I rely on that so I think just being able to adopt as probably the biggest biggest strength. I need to be able to have sued there was about a week span this year after your season ended where there looked like there was a possibility that Malkin Malkin could be traded number one. What was your reaction to that and the second thing I'm curious about is. Do you ever call like Jim Rutherford and just ask you know what's going on my reaction to that honestly was. I've been through this before. I didn't like it. I didn't like it because it it brock back those memories you know so many times in that that window between like. Oh nine and sixteen where we fell short and the next few days is like uh this is going to happen you know and that's the consequences and the result of losing and I understand that I've been through it but I also know that that's also the way it is this and you wait for the dust to settle and to really evaluate things were there at and you know usually when you do that everything Kinda gets. It's a little more clear and you figure out what it is. You have to do and and understand kind of what situation you're in but I think as far as talking to Jim I don't. I don't really talk to Jim that often. I I mean he's great at getting a pulse on the on the group and then guys individually and we need to do that way but I just try to focus on plan. I mean that's that's the biggest thing and I haven't really been one to ever call. GM and say I need you know I need this. I think we need to do that They're there for a reason Sir job and I feel the most comfortable that way and if there's anything they needed opinion vote. I'm happy to share it but I'm not one to be knocking on the door. You know given my opinion about a lot of things and you know the whole Gino thing. I think that's that's part of losing and you understand that. There's always different different possibilities different outcomes that come with that but you know. I'm happy to know that is back great player great interview said thanks for your time today really generous. Thanks thank thank you well. We're nearing the best time of the year puck drop. It's also the time to pull your gear out of the basement and work off the summer rust and.

"We're talking to two people both selected first overall. You may have heard of them. both have well over a thousand points both of one Stanley Cups they both want hearts and Lindsay's and Smites and Ross's they are similar they are different fifteen seasons in the NHL for for Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. We'll hear from Alex and a couple of moments citiz- up I going into both these interviews. What was the expectation for Elliot Friedman Friedman. You hope that they're in moods to chat. You hope that they're great and they both were. I think when you all of you listening here this podcast you will be impressed with how conversational they were and how much they had to say and that's the only thing you can ever ask for when you're seeing down with two guys like this there are the heads of their sport the embassador for their sport and you're just hoping you get them on a day where they're reflective and they both were and. I think think they've been at every one of these providing. They haven't been hurt teams. They change around the guys somewhat this year for example. Colorado said McKinnon he's been there. I think for five years in a row we'll do kill McCarty. Give Nathan a break when you're Sidney crosby and Alexander Ovechkin. You can't really get a break and you you have to be there in most cases they have been and I thought in these interviews. You're hoping that they say okay. We've got to deliver and they were both great. Doesn't it seem though and I'm going to sound like GRANDPA here doesn't it seem like just yesterday they were joining the NHL and they they came into the NHL. When everything was changing was the new game the new logo like the new everything and here these two guys that all of this is it newness was going to be built around you look at baseball when they cratered after the ninety four strike what's. Save the Sport Long Longbow and that took three or four years what pulled the NHL out after the lockout crosby view veteran yes and it was right away like Sosa was a veteran McGuire was a veteran bonds was a veteran Sosa hadn't really established himself yet both mcgwire bonds odds the had crosby invested in eighteen and twenty year old rookies and they had to carry that and they did it when I look at those two guys and everything they've been through the thing that I'm happy for them. Both is they both got to win. Yeah Sids one three Ovechkin won the Stanley Cup now and I'll tell you a story about Ovechkin when they lost at home in the Olympics in two thousand fourteen I was the sideline reporter for that Olympics for CBC and all the Russian players came off the ice after they lost Finland and the way it goes is you have a walking area and the broadcaster on the first half and the print media are on the radio people are on the other side the TV people and overdid Russian TV and while he did every Russian player walked by and lovie finished his Russian interview and you could see how hurt he wise and I asked him if he'd stop and he stopped we'll start score power play goal fuel pray goods and to mistakes give them a brief and to say we try we fight we we played till the end but lost all the skill the Taliban is to even the other guys had so much trouble scoring. Why was that the case. That's a big big question and it's stuff you know it's second Olympic game. We lost. I don't game and it's his bad team. Fight deal mob tell them and nobody gala uh-huh but waiting score second goal and you know it was pretty hard. You've been through some great highs tough times James this the toughest I realized that yet I know we have lots of pressure and The coaching staff a team but I don't know what to say. Thank you very much Alex. I just WANNA say one thing all of the Russian players storm through the media zone he was the only guy who stocks and I sent him a note after that through some people I said look I appreciate you did that. You always get the benefit of the doubt from me and Crosby was C is always been the same way like I always judge people by how they react when they lose as opposed to when they win. It's easy to be a hero. When you're the winner it's harder to be there when it's going badly like crosby references two thousand nine to two thousand sixteen in the interview both these guys this has stood up all the time after losses and Lovie had a lot more crushing defeats than Sid did so I'm happy to see them both win and because I think for what they've done for the sport they've earned it and thankfully for us and by extension you both were quite reflective in their interviews reviews with US Alex Ovechkin moments but first here's Sidney crosby on thirty one thoughts the podcast lease gentlemen please direct your attention to the ice news for the presentation of the Conn.? Smythe trophy for only the the con smart trumping at the Sydney. Close your the tobacco job as you heard the list earlier tonight telly this did it off to our Ross to art now to cons might three Ted Lindsay's one couple rocket shards charts to Olympic Gold World Cup of hockey that Sidney Crosby hasn't won Sidney crosby. The Pittsburgh Penguins joins US Elliott. I want to rewind to a conversation. We had very early this morning here in Chicago sitting across from us it was Matthew Barzel and we're recounting the story so it's Memorial Cup and Windsor Colby Armstrong Thunderbirds. Just skated there off the ice we wanNA talk to Barzel Barzel puts up with my stupid questions about junior hockey and I can tell he's dying dying to talk to colby and he proceeded to Grill Colby for about ten minutes on everything colby could tell l. him a boat you. It was like what is what what was said do in this situation. Tell me about sit and so many of the younger players wheeled through here in the media carwash have referenced you when you hear stories like Matthew Burs all grown up playing junior in Seattle. All he wants to do is meet crosby. Play against Crosby is be learn about crosby. What goes through your mind and does it make you feel old. It's going to say that I was GONNA say exactly that makes me feel but it's a compliment government. Definitely I think as a younger player I had guys I felt the same way and I remember playing against them and remember Peter. Therefore's work was one that stuck out. I mean I I love watching Peter Forsberg love. The way played first game against them. I should just bought a ticket because I watched him and I think I was minus four and and I found out quickly you can't do that. You know you respect the guys and you try to learn a lot about them and what worked for them but it's a competitive league and pretty soon you're going head to head against him and you want to beat them but I think that's that's a huge honor and like I said I I grew up and coming in the NHL. I had the same feelings but a lot of players to fifteen years this fifteenth season scary. It's like it's amazing you think about it. I just wonder you're you're going to play a game this year with Goodell. Yeah and it'd be there but that's the thing said like you got three cups. You got two gold medals the respect of your peers. I'm just one of the thousands game means something considering everything that you had to get through to get back on track doc yeah it. Does I mean. I don't think it means anymore because I went through you know different stuff for went through injury and that kind of thing I think it just it's a cool number. Brian grow up as a kid you WANNA plant. NHL You don't know if it's going to happen. You don't know if it's going to be one game. You know there's a lot of things that go with your your goal dream just to plan H. L. And then you know we're sitting here talking about the opposite to possibly play thousand games. That's pretty cool. I mean I you know I got to witness and be a part of Mac Collins fifteen hundred and after we were sitting around like are you kidding me fifty games like how did you do it like what is the secret but it's really cool and that's not necessarily you know a points thing or thousand games. It's a it's a pretty unique thing and it's just a it's hard to believe. It's been fifteen in your subunits. it's gone by really fast. You know. The thing too is that I always wonder for guys. Who've been around like you have. Is there something you look back at yourself as a rookie and and you laugh at the most about the way you were and the difference between now oh lot probably the rafts. I was so bad I I mean I look back and I feel so bad and I think I had to ten minute misconduct. Say you're and not to say that. I don't get fired up now. 'cause I'm pretty emotional and I get fired up but it was just just when I look back and think about I put myself in that that head space the amount of pressure and the expectation that I that I felt that you're not just me personally. I think I was able to Kinda get through. That was just the team to you know we were supposed to win the Stanley Cup. We're a favourite corner that season. We have these big signings and you know we lost their. I nine games and I remember that was really hard for me. Knowing that like up to that point I've been on winning teams growing up and we Kinda did what we were supposed to do. And that was the first time I really felt that you know what's happening here and what the refs and stuff I think that frustration kinda showed and just look back on and and that was something that I wasn't you know it was immature and it's just the way it happened but something I learned from it not to say that. I don't get fired up like I said but you know if I could apologized every ref back then I would definitely do that. Have you ever done that with many times many times. I mean you get so caught up in the moment he the battle and they're human too. I mean they're they're trying to make the right calls and they don't always see it and don't get me wrong. There's sometimes you're just GONNA disagree. It happens. You know you don't see it the same way that they did or that's going to happen. That's part of it but yeah I mean to this day. I mean there's times when and you know I I get a little too motionless. Say The wrong thing and I'll be the first one to apologize because you know what we're all trying to go out there and you know and their their way they're trying to be successful. In in our we're trying to win Games Eliot mentions one thousand games coming up and maybe the answer to this is it doesn't but at any point white and if so when that start to feel like work or a job your plan hockey it's fun and it's great at any point. Has this felt like work to you or is it always been you know. I'm a kid playing hockey style no. I don't think it's ever felt like like a job. I mean I think things change change..

"And, you know, you, you see how he just hold himself to such a high standard and expects to play well every game. I mean his his bed gamers ever will best game. So it's come for him to get points. I'm sure. Going back to coach q for a second. When news fight it was the whole room in. Shock was some indication that might happen. A completely out of the blue. What was that situation like? I was pretty shocked. Honestly I thought it was still pretty early in the season. I mean I it it is what it is. We were we started off the season pretty well. And we kinda took a little bit of a decline there. And it was a shock to me. I think it was shocked will out of different guys. You know, it's tough for those guys play for him for eleven ten or eleven years, that have to go onto a new coach and, you know, a different style. But I mean it was like I said it is what it is. And he was great to me. And it was obviously great for the team, but I think it was time and Germany Caulton obviously a great coach to he kinda after he came in. I think after the all star break we were a really good team. And kinda got ourselves a little bit back into contention. And I mean he's fun to play for two. I think he gets it. And you know, he's a definitely a good. Coach and has a bright future. For most I'll say guys, your age maybe a little bit older. But a lot of those, those people growing up, they just they love Sidney Crosby that sur favorite player was that the same case for you. Is there another player in the league you kinda idolized looked up to when you're younger? Yeah. Definitely like Sidney Crosby. I think he was definitely fun to watch. I think growing up in Detroit kinda had that finals rivalry with the penguins for a while. So he wasn't my favorite player at that time, but I love watching them, and he turned out to be my favorite player for a little bit. And obviously, like watching Patrick Kane when I was growing up. He was unbelievable to, to watch and but my favorite player for my, my whole childhood was probably about soup. I think he was a. A really skilled guy could definitely a play with the puck pretty well. So he was formed the watch too, but. Wingspan. You wanna was all. Oh, God Ord wants to hang up. Now, how are you? Yeah. Wings to, to Chicago. It's a little different, but it was easy for me to change early on with Jeremy Caulton, obviously people were still furious about the fact that they fired Quin Ville to you. Maybe would've of the things that he did differently. And that's not to say that Quinn didn't do them properly. But that you like the most is him as a head coach was maybe in game adjustments the way shuffles the line meeting how how easy is on the player. He seems like a player style type coach. Yeah. Communicator? I think he's, he's gonna tell you how it is. And, you know, if you have any questions you can go in a talk to them right away. So I think that's what I like if he's an open book, and you know what he's thinking all time. So I it's he no you know what he wants from you and it's kind of blood easier than not like cute and do this. But it's just easier to, you know, know what's expected. And you know kind of your role with the team. Going into the last year of entry yet deal you coming off a forty goal campaign lately, we've seen the league sort of trending away from the so-called bridge deals, how much of that is on your mind going into the season as kind of a little a little bit..

"If this conference champion this the first since they were in it that anybody right right right that's teen years twenty years so whether or not the players i mean there was some shots of ovechkin that he just looked completely exultant completely relief whether or not they for him this is big personally for him he is not better than sidney crosby his resume will never be better than sidney crosby's but he won this one yep and so he can stand up and say i got this one he's unburden accepting wanted with a pass is important that's exactly it was an assist he doesn't usually do that he has one this when except to your earlier point this one doesn't count so well this series is going to come down to whether the backstrom the ovechkin the halt bees can put aside the fact because he hasn't been been there so long but whether they can put aside the fact that they have accomplished something i'm gonna get a little chest ear we talked about this last night yesterday off the air about how how it was a little different this time in that like they had these young guys who don't seem to care guy out guy like rana who's brian who brian is rocking sweater of who's twenty two twenty three years old is constantly firing on that making things happen out there doesn't appear to care they have this joe ingles fellow who got point last night australian first guy ever get a point stanley cups he goes is actually on the utah jazz so.

"An empty net they'll miss it two inch window between their goalie skate and the post that's where the other team oh shoot it through if there's a dumb penalty to take they'll take it but maybe maybe maybe this year they'll get a little farther than normal ranger fan i do not like the capitals and i do not like the penguins but i'm rooting for the capital just because i like the capital's a little bit more than the penguins and i'm sick of seeing the penguins just continue to dominate although you have to respect sidney crosby but i'm hoping that this is finally here you get to the eastern conference final not when at all but i remember being a madison square garden and it was like a funeral that place was dead it was three one the rangers were down in the series then they had a quick goal they overtime mcdonagh wins at the end up coming back derek step on a had the game winner in overtime in game seven and they came back from down three one i'm a capitals fan though i'm not ready to believe it until it happens let's go to john in northern california next up was that gelb on cbs sports radio what's up good evening i think you know for the most part i think expansion is good but i'm just i'm not real sight to see the night fair enough john and i'll be honest with you when the playoffs started just because the rangers have been there for so many years i think he's been their goalie thirteen years and they made the playoffs eleven times something like that so usually you see the rangers in the postseason with lundquist i had a tough time getting into the postseason the first first round but then later on in the first one i really started to get into it because there's nothing like the stanley cup playoffs even though even though my teens even though some of the original teams are not in it it's still great product especially when you have com and there's a lot of other good hockey now there's john forced kenny albert there's a lot of them we go on and on and on but i don't believe there's a better announcer in sport that mike dot com.

"Sidney crosby is the bane of alexander ovechkin existence alexandra veteran is always compared and always compared on favorably sidney crosby and for reason sidney crosby has won stanley cup sidney crosby has one world championships sidney crosby has won olympic gold medals and scored the goal that enabled canada to win that alex ovechkin doesn't have any of that but what else can has is a goal with one oh seven ago last night that he threw off the post and then held the stick up as if it was batting practice didn't skate by the goal knocked in on the rebound that is the goal that wins four three the game there was like no scoring in the first period and then there was a lot of scoring we can get to tom we gonna barry's beluga on later who was at the game tom wilson is he's george atkinson he's a strong safety who wants to kill people who needs to be outlawed and this is true he needs to be outlawed he was not called for a penalty broke guys headline last night he was not dramatic head is your all your head he broke his head implies the whole thing he was not he get a concussion dot called for penalty at all would not surprise any of us if upon review he get something he gets something he didn't win or lose the game i'm not gonna go much further with this because i don't know anything about hockey but i will say two things one barry melrose is now turning to the caps and he was hating on the caps after game one and just thought they stunk he's now turning to the cavs and in the last series the washington capitals play they went down two one four in a row in this when they went down to one and one two in a row and they could win four in a row pittsburgh in winning games against philadelphia scored five five seven and eight goals they're not close to that so the only take away the only reasonable takeaway at the washington capitals defense is far superior to the philadelphia flyers defense and.

"Welcome back to your second intermission reports the colorado avalanche trail the nashville predators ford nothing after two periods of hockey in game six round one of the stanley cup playoffs which means the avs have a absolutely huge third period of hockey coming up here in about nine minutes from right now let's go check out scores around the world of sports will start with the other playoff game the stanley cup playoffs that's the pittsburgh penguins rolling into philadelphia taken on the flyers if you're a philadelphia flyers fan no matter what happened in this game you had to be happy about the team because the philadelphia flyers did something this season that no one has ever done in the history of the nhl the philadelphia flyers went on a ten game losing streak and they still made the playoffs that's never had been before ten game losing streak they still make the playoffs and coming into this one they were trying to force a game seven against the pittsburgh penguins that's would not happen because well i should say this is a very competitive hockey game it was a fun hockey game two periods of hockey as this highlight will prove to you the drama the buck here from the linesmen coppola author duty you go up against set the last game and here's the tank rebounds hogwash guided a tank the away off the better labor and sidney crosby as scored again for the penguins late goal score it is one one sidney crosby who passed mario lemieux on the penguins all times points playoff list just a couple of games ago with his one hundred seventy third point racked up even more in this when he had a goal and two assists the game was tied to two after one in the second period was a tough battle as well cancel jumped all the way to the.

"I'm being eric lindros at when char broke in to patrick kane and sidney crosby and connor mcdavid in the modern day and you think about these one human being having tapped to that change and the change in the rules and how you just can't run a guy into the boards and water ski with them all the way down to the corner it's amazing that he's still has affected busy to meet my pet theory i think of told you he may have mentioned on the pot of wile my pet theory about my pet idea for today chara is i think going back twenty broken the league allender auto into boss i think every year he should win the lady trophy not before but for what he has the potential to do and chooses not to if he wanted to jack and you see all the games he could lay waste to the sleek oh yeah but doesn't when you consider sensu we've got shrek out there who could lay waste to everybody on the ice and chooses not to that to me is a definition of gentlemanly hockey player agree or disagree i think he is a an appropriately gentlemanly hockey player but i was known to give brian campbell a whole lot of garbage over winning lady being as defensemen because as my colleague bob beers who calls color vaas radio has said and sort of wishing that brandon carlo hadel little of this in him you know it's not the worst thing in the world for defenseman every once in a while to cross check somebody in the jaw right josh morrissey in the playoffs accepted but to have a reputation is important and that players understand that char is so strong and still so mobile relatively speaking for a guy six nine and has such fire in his belly that's what did they call it during the cold war mutually assured destruction yeah that's a deterrent right don't launch your missile nuclear deterrent wearing.
