"I i'm not smart enough to know what you should do to fix. That broncos. run the football that's it. You don't need to be a genius to tell pat shurmur to do that. This team cannot ever lose the time of possession battle and they did that and found a way to win. But if you're playing denver broncos football the way that i think they intended this team to play it and you've got to win the time of possession battle just supposed to run. That was the design. That was our idea from the beginning was run the ball. It's like they had this grand plan. It looked good. And i get it. I think go away from it. All the i think the stats workout to the to the three wins. They had going into this. Maybe it's the fourth one with washington and they're seven and twenty two combined record for all those the four loss of the have eighteen intent. So i mean this is a team that's going to beat bad teams and this is a team really really bad teams and this is a team. That's gonna lose to mediocre and good teams. That's where they're at right now because the steelers are mediocre. The browns at this stage are we gonna say they're mediocre lost the steelers baltimore great team. Maybe the best we've ever seen in the history of our lives. They did this lose. They had a by last week. They get pulled out how to stomach. Why you're affinity for lamar jackson. Most likely trying man. What's every day. No no i don't think so so vic fangio he's here he's what we're going to fans are showing up there either. Eleven thousand ocean. Yeah eleven thousand seven hundred day. It was the bengals. The bengals ripped the ravens last week. Forty one to seven bengals lost to the jets and the bengals took took the saints and beat the bucks. What is with this. Bring trevor back. Yeah that's bringing back. Trevor joe backing up in in new york..

"Broncos zak stevens zach. My friend always great to catch up with you here. We are few days after that thursday night game and no changes really nothing not even like a slight tweak in the coaching staff at all no changes at all brady. Now vic did say over this weekend. He was going to do some stuff scouting but there wasn't going to be any operational changes so no differences who the play collar is obviously no changes with. Who's calling the plays and who's on the sideline But we will be. We'll find out tomorrow if there's a smaller tweaks And you know probably the injury status is going to be the biggest those changes because brady the way bayview it is. They're reinforced after on a four game. Losing streak but that they're they're right in this thing they don't want to blow things up just yet well and you tweeted this out there. They're right there with the chiefs. I mean if if i would've said his act the the broncos after seven games or so are going to be tied with the chiefs. I think we'd all be. Thinking are the broncos undefeated at this point. Yeah you're exactly right if everyone would be thinking that. And how about that game from the chiefs. Say about that game from the titans yesterday absolutely took it to the chief dominated them a twenty seven zero at halftime. And brady i really. I didn't think the chiefs we're gonna come back and win that game. But i thought that she's going to put up more of a fight in the second half and they didn't do that one bit which is just so impressive How how much they dominated and the chiefs there. They are a team to be concerned about now. I think in kansas city. They're starting to freak out. I think they are. I think you know. I'm still like the. We're to figure it out at some point but we are stretching it out though. And when you don't score a touchdown was that the first time the chiefs hadn't scored a touchdown since mahomes was the guy. Yeah oh that's crazy. I think it's the first time since they played the broncos like a decade ago. That is just insane. So i mean at least we have that. Broncos country broncos didn't lose yesterday and the chiefs did and they lost in a in an embarrassing fashion. All right exact talked to us man. You you talk to these players you talk to these coaches you hear from them you get a feel. Sometimes you get a chance to read between the lines How are how we feel. And how's everybody feeling about no changes. This coaching staff going forward. Because i think all the fans would say the talent on this roster seems to be there despite all the injuries. Yeah it's really head-scratching just how it hasn't worked out and do we expect the broncos to start seven. No no but did we expect the broncos to go to and two or heck one in three at the worst emits stretch. Yeah absolutely we didn't and so people are very confused in what's going on people inside the building. Don't really understand it as well and we did see vic. Fangio take a different approach than he has. In the past he took responsibility. He took accountability by saying. I need to get. I need to start coaching better. We need to start coaching better. Because these aren't understanding the fundamentals of what we're doing in that showing up on tape so that the biggest change right now that we may see as the coach is taking a different approach early. The coaches taking more on them. And i think that's something that players would like to see because in the past it's been more so the players in the right spot the players on right by and that's been the message coming down from the coaching staff. And that does kinda rub players the wrong way with when you hear that week after week on top of Losing losing game after game. So i think that if he continues to take this approach it will make it a little easier for the players. I always wonder okay. That approach like i agree with just saying sometimes can can be enough rather than saying that. Hey we coached. They just weren't in the right spot but always wondered. What does that mean for coaches. You hear pat shurmur. Oh no. I'm dedicated the run. I love the of the week after week. They don't run it. What in your mind is it. That vic fangio pat shurmur when they say hey. We gotta do better. What is that necessarily. Yeah maybe maybe making the the scheme simplistic and not that. He's been doing a lot of crazy things. Because i think a lot of people have been pretty disappointed in how basic the offense and the defense has been But maybe from the call standpoint especially now with the way the inside linebacker position is for the broncos. Brady is so rough mica. Kaiser you brought in to be the josie joel replacement or at the alexander johnson replacement. Start aside an extra justin or not for the rest of the season. Now he's out on. I r out. Br at least three weeks which is so brutal and curtis robinson. The guy that came into the game just fill in for him now. He's you are literally down to your last practice squad inside linebacker to start next to justin or not so it is really tough. And that's where communication is with those inside linebackers so back communications. It has hurt. The communication in the secondary and the communication. The secondary has been off this year in a very strange way. It just doesn't make sense why the communication would be off so it starts on the defensive side but just making things a little more simplistic for this team And and not trying to. Unfortunately it's probably going to make it so the defense Is even less creative than they've been in the past. But you can't be creative. You're not getting those first steps down. I'll tell you just watching thursday. Just it didn't seem like there was anything there. Miss tackles no penetration the playmaking. Just wasn't there the safety that we've talked so highly about those two safeties jackson justin simmons. It was a frustrating way. All around but like you said. This team is three and four. They got washington coming up and washington. I mean they don't scare many people that defenses supposed to be improved a little bit. But how optimistic are you looking at the zach. And of course we'll get you on friday. Maybe we'll be more optimistic by that time. Will i mean brady. Here's the thing. The broncos have beat the really bad teams in the nfl and against any okay. Good or great team. They've got destroyed. The washington football team is one of those really bad teams and not only. Are they playing with taylor heineke. Who has definitely shown heart that something buckles fans around here and some grit and he's he's shown some good football at times but their defense you you mentioned is supposed to be good. They have talent all over specifically in their front doesn't specifically that defensive line and so talented but it has not translated. They share brady going into this past weekend. They were the worst scoring defense in. Nfl so look at the worst scoring defense in the nfl. I look at taylor. Heineke and this washington football team offense and i say that's a pretty darn bad team. The broncos really should win this game get back to five hundred. Have a chance to be floating around five hundred. Come to buy week and three weeks from now. But then i also say well. The broncos backup quarterback third. String running back a team. That didn't have their right tackle if he really banged up on thursday night game And that team wasn't very good either and they got but right now brady. Oh i just think this washington football team is one of those bad team that we can put in the conversation with those first three teams. They've played so at right now. I'm feeling more optimistic than i probably should be. Feeling you get a healthier teddy bridgewater. And if if pat pat shurmur and victory or wanting to kind of change some things and maybe we do see finally that dedication to the running game which i just. I know it sounds simplistic and i hate to be that guy. Because i'm sitting here. They're doing big things making millions doing what they do but sometimes it just seems so obvious right like toronto williams. A nice rookie. You're seeing a lot of rookie running backs. Get the ball. Wide receivers tight ends. Get the ball. Melvin gordon's paid. Like one of the best. Give him the ball. At least we can shut up about it if.

"Winning losing business anything like that and puts it all. Just on the raiders joining us. Now zak stevens. Our broncos insider of dnv vr broncos. All right. well there's a lot more to unpack with the group inside of it. I know but zach looking forward with the broncos kind of you've had a few days now a couple of days to kind of sit back reevaluate. What happened do you take the positive like summer doing and saying. Hey i badly. As the broncos played they came all the way back and have made it a one score game it came down to a final play or obviously two point. Conversion would have still been up in the air. But do you take that and say they're going to be okay or do you take it more or less of steelers. The plan prevent defense for an entire quarter and so the broncos kind of took advantage of that yeah brady i really typically always take the positive outlook and how the team can get better and go on the bright side but yesterday graham glasgow. We talked to him and he said Pretty much that. that's not the case. You can't do that in this one. He said In the fourth quarter. We can't really take anything away from that. Because the raiders are because the steelers are playing soft and they just let us move down the field. And i'm saying well if he's telling me that i certainly have to listen to that so unfortunately I am nervous about this offense. You you look at You know win. The games actually matter. They're scoring less than twenty points combined in these last two games until it got down to crunch time in that fourth quarter against the steelers It it is a concern and it the good thing is. I'm not concerned about the quarterback which has been the concern for the past five years but just about. Why aren't things working out and you look at the you. Look at the talent on the offense running back scott. The talent tight end has the talent or wide receivers banged up. But you still have talent there with tim patrick in court and sutton what is happening and so you do look at the coaching staff. And that's why pat shurmur is getting a ton of this week. Vic fangio i in fact had to stand up for him and say he has no qualms with pat But if things don't get turned around against the raiders brady. The broncos have a short week against the browns and then they have a long weekend to make any changes..

"I go. I hear about miracles. Some of them are baloney but most of them are true. They're people that i know and trust and they give you details but we live in a world where people act as though there's no such thing as a miracle or who i've never seen proof i've never That's sort of legitimate In any event. I've often said to friends of mine like ken fish or others. That you know you've got to document this because people they won't take your word for it. They people are very skeptical. Well there's good news. I don't know what it is but there's good news. No there is good news. I know what it is. I know what the good news is. And i know what these small g. Small and good news is today. There's a film out called send proof it's about the very thing i have been discussing with me. Filmmaker elijah stevens. That's you yes. Stevens now you come to us from reading california right. That's far away a long trip. That's where my friends of bill. And benny johnson live and he relation. No no relation or relation. See if there's evidence for miracles especially healing miracles. What the doctor say what the philosophers say what the skeptics say. What mike shurmur say or james randi guy who call peter popoff with an ear piece. I try to all those. Those are super skeptics. Super scott who are pretending to be like harry houdini with the spiritualists and they ounces. They're trying to undo the now. Listen that's not a bad thing. Because i get annoyed would be putting it mildly. If there's any tomfoolery. And he phoniness whatever. Now i've not seen any but you know that there's some people out there but the to my mind. Almost all of the people who talk about this stuff are are are straight shooters because there are a tiny handful of frauds out there. Hollywood goes with the fraud narrative and you see all these films about fraudulent faith healing and stuff so it's a great thing that you decided to make a film like

"Say year cursed with a curse for year robbed me even this whole nation bring me all the ties into the storehouse that there may be meet in my house and prove me now here with the lord of hosts if i will not open you the windows of heaven emporer you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it to me is like give me a little bit in our church. It's one tenth. Give me one tenth. Show me that you have faith. And i will pour out these blessings so being on you that you will not have room to receive it that blows my mind and yet there are a lot of people who want to split hairs about that. We'll where's that money going. Well there's this big ripe before covert hit there. Was this big. Do you remember thing that blew up on social media where people wanted to split hairs about where our church was spending the money in drum up this big scandal and they were like yeah. We are reinvesting the money to be smart with the money so we can continue to do things like build temples and send people on missions and they said in there are two they said and when financial crisis happens when the world goes into commotion we will continue to build temples and send people on missions. Because we're doing this in a wise way and of course right after that covet hit and so many parts of the world's economy crumbled and we were prepared for that because of the obedience of so many members of the church who are paying tithing is from the bible. That's you know so many churches believe in tithing and so again. The point isn't over. Judging you or you're not doing it right. It's just when you look at yourself. I look back. And i think about some of the times that i wanted to cut corners and specifically and and i have compassion for anyone. Who's in that kind of zone of it's hard to be going to church right now where it's hard to be all in right now or you know when i was when i met. Neil i was definitely more struggle bus of okay. I want to be here but the plan which was get married in the temple and live happily ever after did not work out for me with my first marriage and so i was kind of feeling like this. Social misfit showing up church who. I was kind of barely hanging on by a thread. I was not there with a rip roaring. Testimony of all of this is working perfectly to my advantage. Exactly the way. I thought it would. And specifically i remember that and this is a vulnerable thing to bring up. I remember that wearing my garments the temple garment. That's something that we commit to in our church. And lots of other religions have different ways of manifesting an outward expression of an inward commitment and. That's kind of what we talk about when we talk about garment the temple garment. I just felt like it was this. I felt like it was constraining. I felt like it. Was this kind of thing that i had signed up to do but i didn't really want to do it. I just didn't have the maturity to understand what that really was giving me which was so much protection and promise of blessings. I mean that's it right. That's what we do when we sign up to wear garments is. That's what we are doing in exchange for promised blessings and protection and all those years i would. I would be like well. I wear my garments but i'm find every excuse to not wear them get up on a saturday morning put on workout clothes in hang out in them literally all day long and that is still a temptation for me to this day. It is still a temptation for me. When i'm in my workout clothes to be like i know i should go change out of these and get in my garments right away but this thing is coming up right need to run this school or i wanna make protein shake now. This calls coming up in one thing leads to another. And sometimes it's hours you know and the more that i push myself to be obedient and try to be what one of our prophets 'cause exactly obedient. I feel those blessings. I really do. This is not just like mother. Goose fairytale whatever. It's real it is real when i say okay. I know what i'm supposed to be doing. And even though it's it it's really the funny thing is it's really not that big of an effort. It's really not that big of a deal. It's not that big of a deal to give one tenth of what we make back to the church. When i honestly truly in my heart of hearts feel like one hundred percent of what we make is from god anyway. All of our blessings including all of our physical blessings are from god anyway. So why would we hesitate to give back to him and in the same way. It's not that hard to just quickly take a shower after work output on my garments and move on with my day but it is the temptation for sure all the time and when i look back on those times i wanted to quote unquote rob god and be like oh the garments like that's annoying and they're hot and it's uncomfortable and whatever i'll get to it later on those days that i did that for years when you and i were first dating and stuff or we go out boating and whatever and i just stay in my swimsuit for hours and hours and hours. I wasn't tricking. God or cheating the system or whatever i was cheating myself and that's what i look back and i'm like oh like whatever blessings i could have gotten from being more obedient. I just kind of shorted myself and and that's not to say like oh if you're not doing it perfectly even you're not going to be blessed because that's not how it works either. But i wanna read this quotation. That i personally love. I've heard some people say they don't love it. I love this. By as taft benson and he said when obedience ceases to be an irritant and becomes our quest in that moment. God will endow us with power to me. That just says it all. It's like when you just wanted to do with heavenly father wants you to do. He is going to i imagine. And i'm not even a gamer. But i imagine the like old old old school. Mario where he would like get him full mushroom and then in gross. Like you know quadruple thinking you're going to go with the star where he can like run through that shurmur. Whatever god endowing with power like thank you for listening to me not like. I didn't ask you to go kill your only son. I'm just asking you to give me one tenth of what you earn or go. Put your comments back on because you promised you would wear them day night like. That's what you committed to. You signed up for that so just do. It's not that hard. I don't know what your thoughts i a lot. Well yeah in general. I mean i think there are obviously other are blessings tied to being obedient to a certain principle or commandment or there's there is kind of. I don't know there's there's expansion. There's learning their spiritual growth is available. At least what. I've seen in my life as i live certain principles and gain a testimony. It is kind of trauma faith on on each one of them that that i have to gain a personal testimony. I hear something..

And i love that so you sound exactly like the book so kudos to you because that doesn't always happen sometimes so let's talk about one of the hardest parts of the candidate process the interviewing process because you give some really great tips here that i think are really fundamentally important when it comes to interviewing When it comes to interviewing others. And the i is and i. I don't know why it just never occurred to me it when you said it. It sure did notice the resume and cover letter. This is what you say. I'm quoting and how they are constructed. What do they tell you about the candidates organizational skills and thought processes time. Just look at our resume. And i'll just go okay. So is there gaps in the resume but never thought about it in terms of and i should psychological professional. I never thought about it in terms of what did their thought processes here as. They've organized it you know. And how they've put it together. What does it look like but that is really some strong. That's some real. It's a real strong indicator right up front isn't it which means that you gotta look at it a little bit longer than eight seconds extreme. "Will create opportunities for saks and game changing plays. You're not gonna get nearly as much of that with teddy bridgewater now just Stepping outside of the giants broncos matchup. I'm rooting for teddy bridgewater. I i liked him going back to louisville. I'm rooting for him to finally overcome that just devastating knee injury and at least in a little bit get his career back on track. Like nick said he is a very very safe and efficient quarterback yet he is not the type of guy where you can just put the game on his right arm and he will carry you to victory but he will keep the He will keep the offense on schedule. He will probably not put you in many bad positions and just from. A schematic point of view. He is really good west. Coast offense quarterback. And i think he's a really good fit for pat shurmur scheme which as we know is very quarterback friendly. You know a whole bunch of half field reads basically if you can determine what the defense is doing. If you can figure out there running man or zone you can just go to whichever side of the field has the beater for that coverage and get the ball out relatively safely and stay either on schedule or ahead of the chains. So i i think for the broncos bridgewater is probably maybe not but probably a better choice. Even if he doesn't have quite the same stealing drew lock does. And i'm also an agreement here with what nick said that coming from the giants perspective as the giants aren't going to be preparing for this. This upcoming opponent drew lock is always going to be the more more turnover mistake prone player. We've just seen that in his career. And that's what's held a mac. He's got a canon for an arm he just hasn't really been able to play behind it yet. And you would think from the broncos perspective that they would try to let that guy eases way into maybe getting more comfortable throughout the season. I think most of us would have agreed that it wasn't just going to be a one season as a starter type of deal until he figured it out. He was a very very raw player. Coming out of missouri but for the giants facing him it probably would have been better for them to go against drew lock in week one of the season in hopes that he makes a ton of mistakes and maybe turns the ball over a of times instead. As i think both of you guys highlighted teddy bridgewater is just a lot more safe. Probably not going to gash the giant secondary for four hundred yards. But he's gonna keep them on schedule ahead of where they need to be going. Moving the chains consistently offensively if they run the ball well. The giants aren't going to necessarily be no been easy shutdown against them so it is definitely the safer safer option for the broncos to go with teddy bridgewater which makes sense they. Fangio just wants his defense out there. Them essentially winning the football game. Not whoever's starting quarterback losing them the football game coming up we're gonna hit on some cuts some roster moves to wrap up the show before we do so we're going to take a short commercial break support for this episode comes from adidas. "And you're feeling really deflected. Wow i so did not predict this. I thought you would have the more interesting results here. Yeah right and then i have normal reactivity. Two hundred sixty five foods and so they still give you numeric values on the rest of them. You can look and see like corn. I have a two and then you decide what's next as you scroll down the page. You consider planning the elimination diet. Here's how it works. They outlined that for you. How many foods should i eliminate at once is a very long scrolling page. Now did you have any of the grains at all in your wheat your millet. No none of those okay did you react to we. Oh what was the other one spelt. I'm sorry. I did have wheat twenty-seven okay and i had spelt nevermind i take back over three c. And then they give you the option to like print this out as a pdf that you can take to your doctor. They have common questions. And those are your results. You know what as you said you. Mentioned black t. I think. Yeah i thought i remember black. T. being in my list. But i didn't remember us discussing it and i just realized i hadn't scrolled all the way up on the list so we do have three more black teas one of them which would be a huge brummer. Love lactate brazil nut. Okay so black teas. Twenty-one brazil nut is at twenty five and then cash you thirty. that's the first thing on the list that i can say like. Oh yeah that gives me a mild reaction. She was one that. Yeah i associate with. Don't carry a bag cashews. Yup but like walnut didn't show up which gives me a pretty severe. Yeah though again not life threatening but very uncomfortable reaction when you find walnut under the normal results like of you. Oh great span anchors. You're at least close to the line. I see why it didn't show up. It is not tested for really no walnut. Which seems bizarre. Yeah out of the things. They chose like jerusalem artichoke. Walnut wouldn't be on there. Say oh but it's such a common allergy. Maybe they just figure you would know but no peanuts on here. Okay and peanut got an eight. The dish caused me the reaction that had peanut. And i was like wait a second. I just develop a peanut allergy. That would be so crazy peanut result. One wow you don't peanuts he wants. I'm gonna take everybody's peanuts. Oh my god thank god. Garlic is right on the barrier. Seventeen so here we are. We're acting all worried or relieved about our results on these various things see garlic. Oh i'm right at the bubble like one more and i would have been mildly reactive. Taxonomic say no okay okay so now the question remains what should we do with these results. Does this mean. We need to eliminate these foods. Should we go to our doctors and talk about them. And how will your results. Compared a druze. Oh right this is the big reveal moment. Yeah okay so you haven't even looked at them yet. I've looked at his. But i hadn't heard yours till now a little bit as you were talking and just in the interest of saving some money. We ordered the ninety-six food reactively test for drew slash my blood. We can still see if it's consistent. Yep okay so some good news. In the consistency category drew did show up as very sensitive to cow's milk. Oh okay thank you. Was there a numeric number attention to that one hundred and nine okay. That's just four off. That certainly seems to be within an error. The other thing that made it to moderate reactively for drill was bell pepper. Oh interesting at. What was the number sixty three bell peppers sixty three and for my test. It was fifty five sixty three okay. So it's an additional eight pushed it up moderate. Okay but yeah. These are seems like something's being measured right. Yeah that's not just spin the wheel. What is this week okay. Then for miles reactivity. There are ten foods. I wonder if i'm gonna now use this like whenever. I don't want pepper on things if i know no. I'm not going do that okay. So here arteries mild reactively foods as a reminder drew has ross's blood you're picturing drew but remember it is my blood. He's just going through truce. He's being nice and he's willing to fill out a form attesting. Tell me well you're sleeping. I drained his blood and then trained gear blood. And i put your blood in his body and then i ran the test. You were like in a sort of state of suspended animation. During this and then i took the blood out. I put it back into you. Drew's i had been keeping in a pot on the stove. And i just put that right back in. This reminds me a lot of the film while you're sleeping. I don't think you saw that movie. Okay so druze first. Mild reactively results is apple consistent. Okay twenty one thousand nine okay. Chicken at twenty two one thousand nine hundred okay. Coffee at forty forty two okay. Kelp at twenty two Kelp eighteen okay mozzarella at twenty six matzah twenty-seven right at twenty five twenty two sesame at twenty six o in one thousand nine hundred here. Okay we at twenty nine wheat twenty-seven winter squash at twenty one winter squash eighteen yogurt at twenty nine yogurt. Twenty six so. That was the whole list of the medium and all of them were on this mild reactivity list for me. Yeah so okay. Those seem like they are fingerprints. That overlap yet to be very thorough about this. We need to go through the other. Eighty four normal reactive ladies and see how they match up to yours. I suppose but at least we all know that they were in that same category though you said black t. Was moderate for you know. A black t. was consistent. let's see black tea. it was at eighteen. Oh i see. I see barely over the line so as thirteen here. Okay okay yup seems to pass at least the test that they are looking at something. There is information being pulled from the blood. Sample that you send them from two different people two different addresses. They didn't send drew in angrily-worded. Yes then like wait a second. You're not you yet definitely still seems possible that your recent exposure moves these numbers around. But that's not necessarily appoint in the opposite direction. Okay well that was fun. Yeah and at least we know. Michael shurmur was talking about in his book where he sent in two separate tests and he got completely different results. Yeah would be more concerning. And i would say that those samples that we sent were roughly a month apart so there may be some natural variety. Or just you know. Depending on the sample itself could be some variety. When i got to results and i saw that. The only to moderate ones were mozzarella and bell. Pepper eva's tempted to texting. Say are we eating pizza but it sounds like anyway. Smoking bell pepper. If it's on a veggie pizza i'll eat it. I love that brought a pizza. Well i mean like that is the go-to on a veggie pizza bell peppers and onion fine. That's my mom's favorite. Onion wasn't on this. Onion is one that i'm not particularly wild about especially in uncooked form ryan. Very little cooked for him. I'm gonna check that out now. And i don't really like you don't like like a caramelized onion i'm like why'd you ruined the sun. Oh interesting other way around like oh good use efficiently cooked and flavored this. That's not right okay. I'm four with onions. So what did these numbers even me. They mean any of this useful on any level. We've talked about it for over an hour. And here's the big reveal not.

"Little jump but it is going to be used. Mostly i think as a as third down back early in the season i think james robinson will number one running back at least for a couple of weeks. James robinson looks good. His bodies changing quicker. It looks more explosive. But you have a guy like et and who can provide that big play. I think you have to get him on the field and get on the field a lot. I think eventually that'll play out that way early. On might be james robinson an et in the passing game. So so yeah. There's a follow up there but but really what you should take. Don't discount james robinson but actually p- thinks they're going to have to start giving then carries in between the tackles but it might take a little while. I would be nervous about ten in that role like a heavy between the tackles role because the one thing that he's not as like physically dominant. He's he's unbelievably quick. He's got great lateral agility. But he's not. He tries to be physical but anytime defender got him above the waist. It was a rap. He he wasn't he wasn't pushing for yardage he's also not a good pass blocker. I would imagine that the majority of the season you'll see. At and being used as as an air back like peek said passing downs. Back i think is floor is what chase edmunds did last year. Which was eight hundred fifty yards five touchdowns fifty three catches his ceiling. Could be album cameras worse year. Oh that's good ceiling would you take. Et n. or or josh jacobs triggers. I have full. Pr one spot ahead of jacobs. The rams are gonna use a running back by committee of sorts according to jordan rodrigues. The athletic to make sure they don't overwork. Daryl henderson i still wonder if they add somebody all right. We'll see tyreek hill. Missed practice with a knee. Tendinitis doesn't seem to serious but kenny. Golladay left with a leg injury and that one could be more serious. We'll have to keep an eye on that. Hamstring cost costume the start of last season. Right and kim jones could have been hurt everybody it a brawl at practice and daniel jones was in the pile. What are you doing. Do we need a twitter poll from you. "In terms of just the The the mental accu men that daniel jones already had in terms of offensive schemes and being also pro ready type guy from a offensive installation standpoint. You lock was very much. Not that way in pat shurmur or came in knin. Didn't really dumb down. The offense for him and i think it showed that he threw a lot at lock in took drew. Lock awhile her. You know to get it and Really didn't start to click at all until maybe the end of the season win. Pat shurmur potentially shifted. Some things out been tried to simplify a forum in so you know it's it's kind of a mixed bag with shurmur is like you. You don't want him to dumb down the offense completely and you want him to get drew. Lock up to a pro ready guy but at the same time. I don't think there was a lot of adapting on pat. Shurmur point to injury lock with expecting drew. Lock adapted his system. We've seen that. That just doesn't work with young quarterbacks time and time again you have to tailor your system to to the quarterback i think how it worked with from lily's from what i saw you know interested in your perspective of obviously. You've watched a lot more giants than than i have with my saturday. Jones is it felt like daniel jones was more ready to take that challenge when pat shurmur kinda threw it at him and so you did see some success in insurers offense. I thought at least from the tape that i watched and It just didn't translate to drew. Lock so i think shurmur okay. Offense coordinator were fine with him. As with the broncos I think he has experienced boded well for him. After broncos ahead at first time on fits of coordinator enriched in gralow the Failed in so with a young quarterback we wanted a veteran offensive coordinator. That could maybe help develop him. So we'll see what happens this upcoming off season How camp works out. But i will say. I think teddy bridgewater probably fits at shurmur system better than drew. Lock guys and so not a Bridgewater's camp of of winning the quarterback battle. So i think probably shurmur in the same boat as vic fangio and.

I thought pat shurmur was a or has been a quality assistant coach in the nfl for a long time. He's not the most innovative offensive coordinator in the world. I simply thought that pat shurmur was in over his head as head coach of the giants. I think he proved in stints. In cleveland and new york that that his ceiling as a coach really should be at the coordinator level. I'm just curious after a year with pat shurmur in looking ahead to a second year with with him. If you wanna find out what's really true that we are wrong a lot and the only way to actually figure out what is true Is to be skeptical and to make sure that your opponents what you're calling the devil in the scenario have a voice to help you sort of find what is true. "He wanted to trust his O. C. He wanted to bring in a level of consistency, and Shermer definitely represents that overreach. Cantarella. It's getting really might have more upside over the long term. It will never really know. But Pat Shurmur, we know what he is, and so a Pat Shurmur and of course my Shula have to do is they have to either get Trulock ready to play this year and bring that level of consistency in the offensive side of the ball, or they gotta go a new direction. But what's fascinating about all this, as you put it in the framework of a fancy also has to win this year, and so if he's not winning Then what does that mean? And what decision? Do they make a quarterback in order to put themselves in the best position to do that? All right, And that's the thing is like Vic Fangio has improved this team across the board. There's a better mentality. It's not defeatist. Like there wasn't events. Joseph the guys play hard. Um, you know, they don't give up, you know, checking out like they were under Vance. Joseph. It's You know, it's it's night day. I mean, if you if you've ever been around football a moment in your life, you know the difference between these two that they're not comparable at all. Um, that said It's not showing up in the win column. Everything else is has gotten better. You know, it just hasn't shown up in the win column. And so that's where Vic needs to what he needs to do this year. It has to show up in the win column. All right, let's get to our poll question at our average radio, assuming the price is relatively the same three first a couple of days to picks and players and either quarterback actually becomes available for trade. Which option would you prefer the Broncos pursue Shawn Watson, the number one pick, which would be of course, Trevor Laurence, or neither. Then. Would you pick? Neither. I wouldn't. I'm not mortgaging the farm. Do all that We're going to lock and if it if it goes down in flames, so be it will be in a great position to draft a guy or pursue Matt right? Or Dak Prescott in free agency next year, assuming it back doesn't get a deal done, which it doesn't look like He's going to. So you know that that zwei I would do it? Would I'm always gonna bet on talent. You know, And that's one of the things that frustrates me about the conversation with you lot because people are betting against him. Well, he may not pan out, but I'm gonna bet on I'm going to sit here and give him the opportunity. You know, Think of all the guys that didn't get an opportunity. The water was bagging groceries. You know? I mean, you could you could go on and on for these guys. Tom Brady. If it hadn't been for for the do Bledsoe injury might have never heard that guy. The greatest of all time, and I never got it. I've never got a crack, then men for Drew Bledsoe injury. You know, so you gotta give. It was like Tom Brady blew the doors off and you want. He wasn't good that she's got bad. You know the defense was winning, and that's that's what helped him win win games. It's operated just enough. So you know if you give to lock a chance, and you know, he turns it around. Cool. What if he doesn't? What? Cool. We're onto the next one we're gonna be. We're gonna get what you want. Anyway. The people who disagree with you. We're gonna get what you want, anyway. So why wouldn't you bet on, you know, continuity and seeing, you know, two years to see if the think and work And if it doesn't it doesn't. I hate the concept of lost years, like in the and you're You're just trying to the best thing you can to be competitive. And build the thing going forward and that whole like lost years thing is such a backwards looking philosophy well, but it's based in part, and you know this..

"Even if von Miller and Justine Simons Back and play well. If the quarterback play is subpar, or do you like this place like you played this year? It's not gonna be good enough. Even adding von Miller back to this mix and adding, Cortland said. I wouldn't think when you look at 10 win. Teams don't get into the playoffs like the Dolphins, right? So I think that the priority and maybe they're not looking at it because they don't have to in terms of timing, but What George Patton's plan is a quarterback, along with big fans. You and Pat Shurmur is going to matter. And I'm curious to see what George Payton impacts rumors relationship means and how much Pat As it relates to how much pats influence there How much influence that has on who the quarterback might be if they want to look outside the building for another viable starter, not just somebody to compete with Drew, but somebody that they would put ahead of her like, say, a max effort. I'm just throwing that name out there. So that's why you're still the number one priority in terms of Overall football success. If you want to rank like what's sitting on George Peyton's desk when he gets to get to work tomorrow, you're right. Well, especially with this news this afternoon, it probably is figuring out what is von Miller's future in Denver. And you got to think that by the way, if George Payton is gonna be starting tomorrow, you got to think that he's already got his short list of guys that he wants to talk to to be that right hand right hand man, And maybe he's even, you know, had those conversations before he took this job. Yeah, I think so. Especially because look, you just always assumed that it's going to be someone that you bring with you. Well, there's a chance that you've met someone along the way or you have interactions because you keep calling them to make a trade or ask them about somebody who's hitting the street or steal someone from their practice squad. "Cantarella vs Pat Shurmur, the decision there because in offensive coordinator is different. It's a different animal. Yes, yes, it is. And plus that officer corners gotta get his sub staff together. Little different Special teams coordinator. I'm not saying you could hire just anyone to do it. But you're kind of saying, But I am saying like it's not like this. Not like a sudden run on special teams coordinator is out there that you know the Broncos are gonna miss out on their guy and I'm glad you pointed out What I think should be overwhelmingly. The obvious point here is you don't really have a GM in place yet to make those decisions right? And that's their purview. That's you Don't hamstring. A new general manager by, you know, re up my hiring a coach for three years that you know that he stuck with now It's just not etiquette. You know, everybody knows what's going on. Has The Electoral College Outlived Its Usefulness?

"Everybody I'm John Dan host and moderator of intelligence squared. Us debates for this episode. I got online with four debaters. Who argued over this resolution? The Electoral College has outlived. Its usefulness. This was a debate that we had originally planned to host with our partners at northwestern law school in Chicago. We were GONNA do it at the law school. Obviously that did not happen. What did happen was that we had instead of a great debate. Digitally has turned out to be incredibly timely topic. So let's get to it the Electoral College. It's this unique construct of indirect democracy that well. It's it's not a college as the term is commonly used but it sure is electoral in that its members who are currently maxed out at five hundred thirty eight have been the actual electors of every president we've ever had since we've had a constitution even those five times in our history when the popular vote went to someone else in recent memory that happened in the two thousand election happened in the two thousand sixteen election. So what were the founders thinking? That's a question that right now. The Supreme Court is considering in an electoral college case but why did the founders think? The Electoral College was needed. And what good has come of it and also what harm has come of it. Well in these questions we've been thinking. They're the makings of a debate. So we had it for really really good debaters said yes or no to this statement. The Electoral College has outlived. Its usefulness as always Our debate goes three rounds and our audience tuning it online voted to decide our winner. But you can still weigh in on this when yourself if you're just listening for the first time to this debate we are taking votes right now at Iq to us dot org that's q the number two US dot org. If you go there you can cast your first vote before you hear the arguments you can vote for or against or undecided on the resolution. You know what? I'll give you a test to do that right now. I'll wait for you. Remember you cast votes one now in one after you've heard the argument and it's the team that changes the most mind. Who will be our winner? So go do that. I'll wait for you. So let's meet our debaters. I up to speak for the resolution. The Electoral College has outlived. Its usefulness. Jim Bowie Jim. Thanks for joining us. Thank you for having me Djamil. You are in New York Times columnist and political analyst for CBS News. You are also an alumnus of our series. So it's great to have you back also arguing on your team for the resolution. I want to say hello to kate. Shaw Kate. Welcome to intelligence squared. He John Thanks so much for having me. And you're a professor at the Cardozo School of law and Co Director of the floor Shurmur Center for Constitutional Democracy. You're also a host of the very popular law. Podcast strict scrutiny. So that's the team arguing for the resolution. The Electoral College has outlived. Its usefulness. Now let's meet the team arguing against that very low resolution. I let's say hello to Tara Tara. Welcome to intelligence squared. It's great to have you with us on one folks to know that you are the author of a lot of books about the electoral college including why we need the Electoral College. You're also a former lawyer and editor of the Texas Review of law and politics and your partner. I WANNA welcome also to intelligence squared Bradley Smith. Bradley Hi Welcome to intelligence squared tie. Thanks John Pleasure to be here and you are a professor at Capital University Law School and you have served as Commissioner Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Federal Election Commission welcome. I want everybody to know that was always our debate will go in three rounds and then you those folks out in the world are online audience. Get to vote to decide who the winner is all right. I think we are ready to move. Onto round one opening statements from each debater and turn those statements will be formed. It's each our resolution is the electoral college has outlived its usefulness. And here I up to speak for that Resolution Jamal Buoy columnist for the New York Times. Djamil your time starts right now. I'm going to begin with a discussion of how we got to the Electoral College in the first place and the think he thing I want everyone to understand. Is that the electoral college that we have the one we will use. November's election is that not actually the one that was ratified in seventeen. Eighty eight gone. Electoral College fell out of use quickly. What we have is essentially an extra constitutional mechanism to deal with the exegesis of politics as they've developed from the beginning of the constitutional convention and specifically when they began thinking about the national executive the delegates for trying to balance four simply four competing things from came to Hal. Choose and national executive They wanted a voice for the People. They wanted a fair representation for slave states They wanted independence from the legislature in. May had to deal the very simple question of. How do you actually choose national executive? In a big large diverse country they cycled through a few things Several delegates including teams Madison Propose Popular Election Others propose choosing from Congress But by the time They came to a conclusion which was at the very last minute the convention. They decided they would do this. Elector based system that each state would choose. Electors would gather together as a kind of congress of it's filtered through candidates They would the majority whoever won the majority of electors would become president Sprout Vice President and if there was no winner at to the house would choose on the basis of the delegations. No one was really entirely satisfied with this when they came to the conclusion but everyone expected more or less at the president of the Convention George Washington would become the first chief executive and this was a a straightforward way to get George Washington took become President United States. No one was really too worried about it. There is debate over During the revocation debates. But it wasn't a big sticking point. No one was too worried about mob rule in these discussions. They weren't worried about excessive democracy. Usually when the founders talked about democracy they were talking but a Fenian style. Direct ASSEMBLY IS NOT REPRESENTATIVE ELECTIONS.

Author Colson Whitehead on 'The Underground Railroad'

"Colson. Whitehead's new novel. The underground railroad is already making a mark as a work of fiction that combines history and metaphor telling a story about slavery in America in new and surprising ways whitehead is the author of many books including zone one and Sag harbor and he's also received a macarthur genius grant and many other awards Colson. Thanks so much for being here. Shurmur pleasure so this is not your first novel. Obviously but how many novels have you written? And the last one was about poker this is my sixth and I have to nonfiction and last nonfiction was about Playing the world series of poker and having to bone up on a game and and trained for a couple of weeks and crash course in order to play at the annual big game that was the no Hustle Noble Hustle. Yeah so how did you get from the Noble Hustle to the underground railroad? I'm always sick. Like whatever style is working in on the book and the last book was first person a lot of jokes. I saw it as a humor book. That's tried to cram as many weird jokes in as I could With the underground railroad. Well it's fiction. Try to have humor in my books but obviously you can't really have as many jokes for page in a book that slavery so that so that was good. My last couple of novels had a ton of black dudes walking around thinking about things and it seemed Have a female protagonist and mix it up and never explored a mother daughter relationship before so it seemed good for me to break out of sort of a mode. I'd been did part of the idea of this scary you to brighten the voice of a woman example multiple her. I mean I think That's your job. I mean. It's Nice if people say oh you got a female characters voice and I just think well. That's what you signed up on when you pick the book and said as female character like if you have a plumber and Drain you go. Wow you were the UNCLOG that drain. That's why you call them and That's why he did it. So it was hard to tackle slavery and get into the Research and really contemplate and immerse myself in the horror. Hadn't only people walk around thinking about slavery in a deep way all the time and Obviously exposed to route. I was very young and studied it in college but I had immersed myself in slave narratives and a very long time and now that I'm older you know affects me more than it did when I was a teenager in my early twenty s and so I'm realizing how much the true ours was not to submit my protagonist in her companions to Dante and terrifying. It also seems that I mean we're roughly the same age that depictions of slavery obviously there was roots and there was a beloved but in the last decade or so have almost reexamined it and in a way that's a lot more fearless and visceral and that you're kind of fits in well with that Well I think You know taking liberties with historical record. I mean I'm playing with time. Once Cora gets deep into her journey but that first section mergers George. I want to be as realistic as you know. I can make it. Which means a lot of brutality? And it means impressing upon the reader the psychological tortures that they were forced to endure so for those who have not yet read the buck. Let's just talk a little bit about the the story line We start off as you mentioned in Georgia with Cora. Court is Sixteen or seventeen year old girl Owners didn't keep track of their slaves. Birthdays she has no idea how old she has. Her family has gone. Her mother has run off years before. And she's a an orphan astray on the plantation. A man named Caesar sold down South From the north he has contacts underground railroad so they light out to the north availed themselves of his contacts. And that's when the book changes I guess I had this idea that you know. What if the railroad was an actual literal railroad would apprentice not so much of a full story? Was that the first like one of the first things that you came upon when you were yes about. Sixteen years ago I was thinking. Oh isn't funny like when you're a kid and I hear about anything other little subway and that was like one little well actually on twitter. I'll search for the entire book and it'll be teenagers in school. Like Oh missy stupid. She thinks of underground wherever and as always like a couple of those a day. So I think it's a common Fantasy the notion and then I was thinking mcdan- to a story like what if every state Georgia South Carolina North Carolina. She goes through is a different state of American possibility. And so I was thinking about how each different character and the first place she ends up is South Carolina which is seemingly benevolent paternalistic place. Where a lot of programs for black social uplift jobs programs housing North Carolina is a white supremacist state. Where black people were outlawed and not allowed to step over the state line and so I was trying to sort of tweak American history to expose various tensions and I mean did you sort of create certain rules for yourself like well. This is going to be this part of me. Maintain kind of historical accuracy and integrity. And I will place these sort of discreet. What could have been or what might have been or what was then and not there within Georgia where we meet on the plantation going to be very realistic and traditional depiction of plantation life. And then the first gets the WHEEL ROAD. She looks up and sees a skyscraper and that's As a writer that's why I'm GonNa let it rip and have fun and go crazy and and the beaters notions and it's a you know. Obviously a big signs of the reader that we're not I think you know. I thought the Book Sixteen years ago and initially in for many years each state took place in a very different time frame and so South Carolina would have been like in this very stylized future place with with gene experiments and enslaves bread for different roles. And it would have been an fantastic. Gestures would have been much more broad and a sort of cloud atlas type style and so you're in a different world and the North Carolina chapter was going to some sort of fifty suburbia Myst- sort of Eisenhower Era America. That was the default for many years of the Voice of the book and a structure and then has to be read and as mentioned in the review. Glad to see it a hundred years of solitude which I read when I was in high school and had been an impact on me and I read it a few months before I started writing this book and it just seemed what if I just toned it down and didn't have to have these broad gestures ever sort of my default setting. There's a section in the book where she's a living exhibit in a museum and she acts out scenes from a plantation and a slave ship behind glass for the museum's patrons and I feel like five years ago would have been a ten page. Like huge like setpiece announced like two pages. It's interesting because I think just in the paper today. There was a photo from one of these museums. Where you know wasn't the Museum of Living Wonders but place where they reenact an earlier incarnation of America and you know and there were two African American people dressed up in costume. The first world's fairs you know often had an jungle natives and garb Dancing around to fit some some some sort of idea of darkest Africa Their various African pygmies were you know paraded For the delectation of American audiences you know once I decided not to make a historical novel and play with Time. Allowed to bring in things like that. Which occurred in eighteen fifty but were part of America in the late nineteenth century and the various things about eugenics and the Holocaust which I bring in. That's novel eighteen fifty but they ranked true and so I think another rule of besides concision was stick to the truth and not the facts and so There seem to be a truth in that museum. Section and where core funders in North Carolina that. I wanted to be loyal to even if it didn't actually

Browns Make It Official

"We will start with the official news out of Cleveland Scavenge to ban skis hired by the browns. They announce officially on Monday. He's thirty seven. Spent fourteen seasons as an assistant in Minnesota but has never been a head coach at any level level his entire. NFL coaching career. As I mentioned has been with one organization the Minnesota Vikings Stansky took over play calling duties on offense late in the two thousand eighteen season. Minnesota ran the ball. Forty seven percent of the time with Danske asked the play caller. That's the second highest rate in that span trailing only the Baltimore Ravens was introduced at a press conference just a little while ago. I the foremost success starts with people and I know we'll talk a lot about culture but it is absolutely about the people and everybody knows the Harry Truman quote. It's amazing what you can accomplish when no one cares who gets. That's the credit and that's what I believe. We have in our building. We have great people. I know we're going to add to it will hire G. G. M. here in the next week can or two and we're going to add to this culture that that we're building here and we have the right people and again. I can't stress enough. How excited I am the be? Just a part of did you know to use a basketball terms to my dad can understand this. I want to be the point guard for this organization. I want to bring the ball up then I wanNA share the basketball and let so what else get an easy bucket though smiling over there. WE'RE NOT GONNA I'M NOT GONNA speak anything into existence right now I can. I promise you that we're GONNA work. I've already spoken to a few of our players already. And that's what I'm about I'm about working and I'm about putting a foundation together the other. We will be methodical about it. We will not skip. Step two two and three to get to four. We're GONNA start in the foundation and then we're going to reinforce foundation Shen said we can build upon it and when I'm talking about this I'm talking about schemes and technique will be diligent about working with our players so that they can develop into the the best versions of themselves and ultimately we're building a foundation for what we hope is a championship. Effort will have a culture of accountability. We'll have structures is in place the players will understand our rules. And what we're about and we're going to demanding and we're going to hold each player accountable. Because ultimately I know this about players they they May Not come out and ask you for that. But that's what they want. Well perhaps the tenth. TIME IS THE CHARM IN CLEVELAND. Stansky is the tenth full time head coach Wjr. The browns have hired since returning to the League in one thousand nine hundred ninety nine that is the most in the league over that span of the previous nine. None have posted a winning record. Heard and not a single one has lasted more than four seasons continuity and consistency has been a real issue in Cleveland. Victor certainly something they'd like to you see changes to fanciest step in the right direction. In your opinion will I believe he is and I think that consistency where it is important. And right because you put up that list of all the coaches and the coaches that they've they've pretty much funneled through throughout the years can you provide that level of stability that they've been seeking for almost a year in and year out. Can you provide that for their now. The thing I do like about Stansky a fan ski is that he has experience with creating plays for two star receivers and I think that's something that's going to have to translate over to the Cleveland. Browns obviously with Odell Beckham junior junior and Jarvis Landry and having that experience I'm sure enticed of that for an office inside bring him in and understanding that they got to get the best out of these players in the best out of all their play makers obviously nick included In the backfield now is he going to be a leader of men and he is he going to be able to handle. The Eagles and the different personalities is that are in that locker room. Desk the biggest question that still remains to be seen. It's defense gas interviewed with the browns. Before in fact it's believed that he was the first source of politics but Desta several seasons ago and and it didn't work out. Matt you spent time with him as part of that Minnesota Vikings Organization. What can you tell us right? He he was a young quarterback coach at the time. And so when I got there was actually a little bit older than he was which is an interesting dynamic but at the same time. He's been all around that building. You know he's an administrative assistant and when he started there then. He was a quarterback coach. He's I've been with the running backs he's been with the wide receivers so he's been in all the different elements of the offensive side of the ball. He's seen the ups and downs. He's seen how free agency can impact so he's got a great feel feel. He's a great leader. He's got a presence about himself in the other thing that I think that the Cleveland browns are probably drawn to is the simple fact that this is a very quarterback friendly offensive structure that he's presented presented in for a guy like Baker Mayfield that had had his struggles last year. And maybe some confidence issues. Maybe not though. Let's see the press conference the same time. It's a quarterback friendly. There's a lot of play action. There's a lot of movement of the pockets. A Lotta easy throws to be made screen. And then there's like you said that balance forty seven percent percent of the time the run the ball. There's great balance in that offensive structure in for a young quarterback and going into his third year after some struggles. I think this is a great fit for that organization Asian and going back to when they actually made this higher People in Cleveland were telling me that it was actually his run game because we see what he was able to do with Dowling Cook and how he was able to make become a good player to really a great one and he's a central part of that offense that we now see in Minnesota and that was a big part of it but in terms of now Cleveland going forward looking for GM the way it was explained to me is they really want these to head coach and gm to work as one. This is why they moved on. From John Dorsey Percy and Freddie Kitchens. They didn't feel like this was working together. So they're looking for someone who has the same vision and the analytics department obviously is of of crucial part of Cleveland. And what they're looking for a head coach and I think that's why Stefanski became that lead candidate because he's accepting of it. He wants to be part of that and You know I think I saw some reports out there about how Cleveland is demanding that their head coach presents the game plan to ownership and really the way it was explained to me. It's not so much that they want to see the game plan. They just want everyone to be in sync to go over to make sure they're all on the same page headed into the game. Well you can't blame him and and that is something that clearly was not the case. I think you make a great point. It's poor in that somebody come in and be able to work and mold Baker Mayfield but also be able to be the CEO and run this whole organization and have everybody else be accountable. I think Freddie Kitchens might have had one of those two things that went by the wayside outside the quarterback with the hiring in Cleveland. What it does mean? Is that every chair on the head. Coaching carousel is now accounted for. The browns were the fifth and final team to hire a new head coach in the off season. Three of the hires tires Stefanski as we just discussed Joe Judge with the giants and Matt Raw and Carolina our first time. NFL head coaches the other two quite the contrary contrary Mike McCarthy in Dallas Ron Rivera in Washington they will get a second chance or in some cases third or fourth various established. NFL head coaches of of all the five. Who Intrigues you? The most in their new spot intrigues me is Matt Rule. I WanNa see what really transpires here right. He seven years sixty million dollar contract. That's a big commitment big commitment. I mean we might need to think about going into coach. That's it has everything else that they're also saying that they're making a commitment to Cam Newton with the type of style and the offensive structured. That they've set up McCaffrey's there I mean they've got the pieces of the puzzle there now. It's interesting to see how that that offensive structure from college translates to the NFL. which is I mean? There's been guys like chip Kelly in the past right John Harbaugh's price guy. That's been the most successful but that was more of a pro style offense with the most the most recent Kingsbury in Arizona so cliff Kingsbury. Excuse me it's been a mixed bag. There's no question. Let me ask you this just circling back to something you said by hiring Matt rule it you believe this means a commitment to Cam Newton. Can you explain why why I just think that The Baylor and watching their offense of structure and the RPO that takes place that's run pass options and all the different things that they're well versed in and that the Baylor offense has been historically historically very successful with in terms of that offense of structure I just think that that Fits Cam Newton's game very well and so I believe that that's a statement saying look. We wanted to bring somebody in here that you're going to be comfortable in this type of offense of structure and go out and be able to put yourself in a position to have success extent to intrigue you for me. Is Joe Judge my beloved giants. I think well I just think because going into it. Once I saw the Vacancy Happen at the head coaching position I was all right. The giants are GonNa come in here and get either like a Ron Rivera type or even McCarthy and get a guy that will come in and commanding presence. Once he walks into the building and I think with the hiring of Joe Judge just left me like okay I. It felt like the same cycle almost felt like coach mcadoo a couple years ago when you give a guy a shot and bring him in if he can transcend The coaching position or the year. After that when you bring in Pat Shurmur and you try to bring take a chance on another guy. Felt like we're taking another chance on another guy but granted. I must say I loved after the press conference I loved his mannerisms I love. He literally embodied what the New York Giants Football Organization is all about when he stepped up there on that podium Liam so I say that with a grain of salt because I love the press conference and I think he's going to bring something different than the other two coaches did in the past. But I still left me scratching my head in terms of who was out there here in the type of guys that could've came in that building and commanded a present these guys by the way Matt Rule and Gioja Geno. It's not about winning the press coverage but they did rule who was must see TV. I was just watching. He's missing time with the giants. Who so I knew all about? He's got does I think you know obviously recruiting such a big part of being a head coach in college. You don't mean to recruit You know when you're in the NFL. Which is why? I'm an agreement with you. I think that is the most enticing match COPA or at least the situation of the coaches just because you just look at history and making that jump from college the NFL. It's not easy and there just hasn't been a high success rate there. I think obviously he spent a little time with a giant. So it's not like he's

Broncos Finalizing Deal to Make Pat Shurmur New Offensive Coordinator

"Well we just talk to my class are brokers insider who told us that the deal is done with that tactic Schirmer to be the new see for the Denver Broncos official press release from the team hopefully coming sometime before the end of the week big al with Schirmer being the new offense of coordinator what do you see as the pros and cons for this this young this young offense with the very young rookie quarterback is gonna be going into your to what I'm looking for are the things that that you can give a team and that's easy to roles and I always talk about this because I believe that that's the key to winning football games in this league how can you create an easy throw a one on one getting the guy wide open like we saw Devine to Adam's last night plan for the Packers you know the Packers go with the heavy formation they run a play that look like it's going to be a post but it then it turns into a corner is a seven right and then you look up and you say all my goodness the guy has a football it's one on one coverage he makes one guy miss and any out runs the coverage that's it easy to roll okay it's not fit the ball in the window it's not a drop back play act soon getting a guide you know own a seventeen yard dig route it's none of those things it's making the girls that the good players make to wide open guys but you have to design those plays for those guys to be wide open and the quarterback shouldn't be surprised when a wide open and when they're not wide open take the ball and run it that's what the good teams in the NFL do that's how you win football games in this business by getting your quarterback easy throws that you can feel good about and we didn't do that especially not against the Kansas City Chiefs are we rich gang real and I hate to see guys getting fired trust me it's it's not it's it's you know nobody wants to see that I wish there was a way that he could have stayed on and work with the quarterbacks something of that nature but maybe it's maybe it's too muddy if he's in Rome but you know it just we just have to have a change in and once again the greatest throws in the NFL aren't necessarily the ones that are forty M. fifty yards down the field like we saw this weekend but we also saw we also saw Patrick my homes we were out to the running back I think it was Williams out of the backfield on what looked like to be a six star pass it ended up being a seventeen yard touchdown the design of the play against the covers that was played was perfect and the guy had a free run to the end zone I mean those are the plays that you expect out of a great offensive coordinator and that's certainly what I'm looking forward Pat Shurmur who spent a lot of time with Andy Reid and Philadelphia I take it I think he was there for at least ten seasons with Andy Reid going from offense of line coach tidy and coats two quarterbacks coach so he understands the offense it's complete and of course in that Minnesota offense that's what we have to go last because that's where he was calling plays exclusively you look at that team and what they were able to do and the way that they brought on Adam Thielen out of no where to become a star well you know that he understands what kind of receipt what the receivers need to look like and not how they need to run there are so many different ways that we can look at this as be an improvement to be an improvement to what we had last year in part of it believe it or not Joe Joe is evaluating players for the upcoming draft that's a big big part of it because trust me there is a common formula to run in this offense and really make it work Stefon Diggs is the guy that blows the doors off of the defense is for the Minnesota Vikings before we and you look at back at Pat Shurmur when he was with Andy Reid it was the son Jackson now what is a in to read as he has he'll explosive wires see what to add to re kill who blows the doors off so I'm almost guaranteed you I'm almost guaranteeing you were going to find a guy that can blow the doors off of the defense in round one or two of this year's NFL draft that's how you make that all things work do you have a guy that can a workhorse guy who can catch the balls and make it happen that's called sudden but we need one of those guys that is scary says that blows the doors off the defense the evaluation process of what that guy looks like I trust Pat Shurmur more than I do John Elway to

Giants go all-in with GM Dave Gettleman, who 'won't be an issue'

"The giants opted to part ways yesterday with head coach Pat Shurmur after two seasons and a nine twenty three record team though announced the GM Dave Gettleman will return for twenty twenty and also spearhead the search for new head coach here as gettleman earlier New York today before we go any further. I just wanted to be clear. Pat Shurmur as fine. A man as I've ever worked with there are many reasons whether New York football giants who've been the current state and I take my share of cup building. John said yesterday I have had Mrs however given where we started in December seventeen. We've made progress in many areas on an off the field. We're encouraged by and see as a sound foundation for the team to come. Look there have been Mrs. There've been some some hits. There would be those that argue. They have quarterback running the pieces in place rob making it. I would think desirable situation for a lot of head coaching candidates. Yeah I mean if you look at what they have there. You have a franchise quarterback who's very young so if you're offensive minded coach maybe you you'd take that as a positive. Look I have a very one of the top running running backs in the NFL right now. Very Explosive Young Guy. That's going to be on the team for a while. And you look at your quarterback I think the the hard part would be the GM staying so maybe he would have more influence on personnel decisions so that could be an issue but as far as just players their offense they have the keys. That are there for winning. But defensively they're going to have to rebuild on defense. I'm sorry Dan. The point was made yesterday that while they announce it ghetto ones returning and could be in a tough spot if there are potential candidates out there and talked about this that want more of a say you know. There's a new age here. Where head coaches make a lot of the decisions and now they're kind of backed into a corner feel like that's the case around the League Eh? You know whenever you're talking about the coaching hiring process. And you know let's say we're discussing the giants situation in your talking with other perhaps candidates or other head coaches from other teams teams about what's going on. They'll always say did he get hope. Is he getting full. Control getting power. It's always the first question people ask. Because that's what they want because we've seen what happens when a head coach. She doesn't feel like he's the one that can make the decisions and it becomes frustrating and it usually doesn't work out. I feel like the team that allow their coach to say and work in tandem with the GM GM those are the ones that usually are successful or the giants head. Coaching search has begun. They've made inquiries around the league will continue to watch

Report: Browns Request Permission To Interview Josh McDaniels About Head Coaching Vacancy

"Coaching news out there. If you haven't seen it this morning Pat Shurmur it has been let go from the New York giants but the giants have also let us know that Dave gettleman will remain as the GM so we know that that's happening. We're also starting starting to hear some of the names names of people that are being requested for interviews. Adam schefter pointed out the Cleveland. Browns have requested permission to interview a Josh mcdaniels. We knew that they've also requested permission to interview Ravens. Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman for their head coaching vacancy. So that's one there. They can take care of that interview now in fact because the ravens have a bye week it gets a little. It'll trickier with Josh mcdaniels. Who appears to be a hot candidate for several different teams? He is on the list of candidates for the giants. He's on the list of the the candidates for the the Browns as well as you and for the

Eli Manning returns as NY Giants' starting quarterback

"If you look last season Eli complete sixty. Three percent of his passes in the two games against Philli. Five hundred seventy passing yards in. It initially looked like he was going to have all his weapons tonight. But Evan Ingram. I guess was scratched Saturday afternoon. Shurmur said he thought he would play on Friday. So that is a big loss expecting Evan Ingram to go but now he's out and he was a went back looked at both meetings last season the first go round the giants outgained Philly by point eight yards per play. The Second Meeting New York goes into Philly puts up over. Four hundred yards of offense outgained the eagles by one point four yards per play. So I can tell you when this game reached ten we did see a by on Eli in the giants it was a value bet Nothing huge coach to quickly go over this. Because I don't know how much time we want to spend. I think if you're looking at the giants it's not a lot paying. The answer is not a lot like as I'm talking hogging motivating the speed at. There's two things that are that are somewhat relevant. Here right in the first is Eli against the Eagles Defensive Line in the pressure that can be created their right. Allies always hated pressure. We kind of made that joke years ago. He looks like a fish out of water. When pressures on and you gotTA drops the game the ground and got him squiggle we've seen him duck out of throws over the years right? A lot of his mistakes. Come when guys are barreling down on this season and it's only two game sample size. But there's a reason he was replaced it's because he has a passer rating of fifteen when he's under pressure and the eagles are top. Ten in pressuring. I'm not sure how Mike remers at right. Tackle is going to be able to handle Brandon Graham the night and if you read. The tea leaves their Brandon Grams Hoping for transactions at seven and a half now there's a couple bonuses and escalators that he would like to achieve so so get thirteen tonight. That's going to be one of the match ups to watch right pressure on. Eli Specifically Brandon. Graham against Mike remers at right tackle. I guess the second question. B Saquon against the Eagles defense. It's probably going to be tough sledding right. The giants online doesn't create a lot of space Four saquon in the ground game. You look. They're twenty six and then justed line yards on the other side. You have an eagles defense. That's eighth and defensive. Rush efficiency seventh in rushing success rate. You would think the goal for Phillies to shutdown saquon Maki lie beat them internally. I can tell you that gym shorts and the Eagles defense or embarrassed last week at Miami. They've said as much the unit thought they were turning a corner. They're becoming the strength of the team. Last week's performance kind of came out of nowhere. I would expect them to rebound a little bit here On that side of the ball

Giants QB Jones has ankle sprain, Manning likely to start

"Week it appears likely now that Eli manning will get the start for the giants in next week's Monday Night Football game against the Philadelphia Eagles rookie starter Daniel Jones is dealing with a moderate high ankle sprain suffered during the loss to the Packers seems he won't be able to go in Philly on Monday night coach Pat Shurmur not worried about you why being rusty I anticipate that he's going to be ready to play manning a two time Super Bowl MVP with arguably a hall of fame

New York Jets head coach Adam Gase responds to support

"Adam Gates in his first season as head head. Coach of the New York jets his record today to end seven nevertheless interesting time for a vote of confidence jet CEO. Christopher Johnston said yesterday Ah Adam gays will return for the two thousand twenty season here is the jets CEO. I want to ensure you there would be no changes changes in coaches Adam. How's the trust of this team as the trust Sam? Joe's trust he has my trust. He's a good man. He's a good coach. There is a lot of work to. There's a great deal of to everyone understands And we're just getting started. I feel really good good Memphis team moving forward anytime you get support from ownership the way that the staff Scott supported. The old has gone way. Obviously we wanted We got a lot of games are jobs improve this team and go out and try to win games every week. And he's with us through every step within our communication with him so he kind of knows what we've been trying to do how we're we're trying to fix things that are that are wrong so no to get his support for him to Kinda see what we're trying to do. It's that's an important step fluish. Well that was Adam Gatien course responding to the SAGA lineup. Was He trying to avoid eye. Contact Tech High. We're out here. Do you find that the timing at all interesting or Steve. Young made the point. Yesterday Robert was a good time to do it. So people stop asking the question. I mean it is a good time. Just say. Hey He's going to be here next year but look he's been there one year having hasn't been a great year for him but you know look overall head coaching record. He's about forty a two percent. When winning percentage he wins about forty two percent of the time? So you know. It doesn't look so great for him moving forward but look he's got the support Ownership they're going to give him one more year and I can guarantee that next year if they're in the same position that they're not going to be so lenient on giving him another year. So Oh you look at what. NFL coaches are nowadays. They have guaranteed contracts. I highly doubt they WanNa give him a nice contract and then just release him halfway through his I well it gets to be an expensive decision. Yeah and that's a really great point because ownership obviously is invested in their pick. They want their pick to look good exam. You know you don't WanNa WanNa give up on what you decided so quickly although that has happened to certain coaches inside right around the league. But you can't forget that even even when Todd Bowles was there that the jets were ten and six in their first season and it was really bad. Blow to this team to the supper loss against the Miami Dolphins and just some of the adversity city that they've gone through since Particularly when there's been a lot of expectations with Sam darnold presidents on that team. Well Yeah. He was brought in large part to work with a young quarterback to develop SAM. Darnold help him take the next step. What's interesting is that they share the same stadium with the giants are struggling as well? Now in this case Pat Shurmur is in his second year as a head coach. But look they're coming off the bye. They've lost six straight. What's the word around his future? Well Adam gays was asked recently just how secure he is in his job in one of the ways in which which he retorted. What's to say I'm built for this? Just projecting confidence which you would expect the head coach to do. But I would be remiss to mention that some of the reporters in New York noted that was kind of the same something that Ben mcadoo said three weeks before the giants got rid of him and and clearly this is not the adversity or excuse me what they were looking to results wise to be having right now coming off of in two years of What they endured under Ben mcadoo but the reality is promising as Daniel Jones has looked particularly when he's throwing the ball With with the return of Saquon this is not what they were looking for. They're still suffering losses even with saquon on the field. I mean he has not had over sixty five rushing yards in the last three times he played. Hey only had two one hundred rushing yard games. That was in the first two weeks Daniel Jones continues to have issues with the interceptions. Fumbles and things of what have you and it has has. It was altered in wins. And you can't neglect the fact that this is in New York and teams with that media pressure there as well. It won't stop. It's hard to perform with a rookie quarterback though in this in this league it's not they had veteran it didn't it didn't work out. He still there by the way. He's still there. But look in this league. It's hard for a young quarterback to come in and be successful and I just think that we're witnessing growing pains of a young quarterback trying to figure his way Out through a hard schedule last year at this time he was done you know now. He's about halfway through so I mean it's it's a lot more difficult. I agree with you. Rob The only issue of course with the New York giants dances. They've had a lot of these same problems whether it was a long-term veteran quarterback or a yet stroup Such a great point. And so then you start to have to ask other kinds of questions

Stefon Diggs on trade rumors: “There's truth to all rumors”

"But we will start in Minnesota we we stefan digs and his current situation the vikings white out missed practice for undisclosed reasons yesterday and it led to speculation about his future with the Vikings today today dig said he has not requested a trade but did admit there is true to all the reverse. He said that he's unsure. His agent has talked to the Vikings and what has transpired can't sit up here like everything is everything is okay his obviously not but but I can't say at this point it just trying to work. Do I feel like there's no matter how you sit up. I won't be saved speaking on that off off. Everybody's known to be rethinking the next one that team guy always predicting but for myself. I never made it just about me. I've never been that kind of so my resume persona kind of speaks for itself. I've never been to got to kind of be off. Be like me me me and wanting to have success. I WANNA have team. Success is always what I've been pushing them always without push so my language was stated saying whether I'm giving many opportunities not not not a lot. Have you asked for trade if you haven't communicated anything more so the conversation has been about teen and China had success food ah I haven't spoke to them you gotTa talk to play Sunday. hopefully then you play. I like football. I want to be part of I want to the apart play football on Sundays on CBS practice today you anticipate house and I feel a little bit better as to Yeah Courtney Cronin joins us now from Minnesota. She was there when dig spoke and Courtney. You heard him say. There's there's truth to all those rumors. What's your take a what exactly he met. Wendy he kept repeating that phrase multiple times throughout his media the reliability this morning and I think that that's him not completely closing the door that we're all he did say when I asked him straight out dicky requested trade you want lots traded and he said I had not communicated that and then obviously you have to follow up about his agent. You didn't fully close the door saying that no. I wanted to be your completely like that. Is there some uproot that there might be some validity what we've been hearing me Hainan seeing that this has been something that's been brewing probably for a little bit of time now so. I think what you were. Each phrase wants to continue to say it while he did say walk this year and he's been here for five years. He loves everything about teammates. I think he's questioned what you have to bring his question about whether he's feel value. He does have a role in the offense but it is minutes role than it was US last year and obviously you've been obsolete. I come in the steam because that kind of brings things to a head to where we're at right now. Wondering are we've seen the end of the era. Is this the beginning of something that we should be more concerned with or just going to blow over eventually because feel there's fire. I'm Greg it courtney. Thank you yeah I think in this case. It's fair to say there is some fire that smokes coming from Joe Joe. I'll ask you first of all about attentional trade market for digs if he were to move on well. I spoke to a team last night that I know would specifically definitely be interested in step on just because they expressly told me that and then last night I think an inquiry was made in they came back and said that they were told that Stefan was not going to be on the market and I see we're hearing during that today in terms of other people following up on the reporting what we do know about stuff on digs at here's a career worst three catches per game and five targets per game and and even though he's coming off a career-best production with over a thousand receiving yards and nine touchdowns his production in the two years prior to this season. It's still been under Adam Adam feeling and you know he's working with the new offensive coordinator and Kevin Stefanski and prior to that obviously was Pat Shurmur. WHO's the head coach of the giant so I think talk. You're looking at a receiver who feels like he can do more. You might even feel like he's the best receiver on the team and he's right. He is not a Mimi Guy in terms terms of how he portrays himself publicly. I've covered him a lot of times. I was there for the Minnesota miracle of so many of his games and by comparison you would definitely not put him out there but off in that sense but just listening to his words and the fact that he did leave the door open with certain things that he said he is letting you know that he is frustrated in that also think that that it fits within the era of athletes right now this season and last season being more vocal about their situations taking more control of where they feel like they can best flourish and I'm getting the hint although I have not talked to him directly or his agent that he's trying to let people know that he feels like everything is not completely kosher dill. It's funny you say that Joe Joe and I think Steve Young. You made the point two weeks ago with the genie sort of being out of the bottle I this is another example of a player. I think trying to sort take some control of a situation a situation that from his perspective is not working the way he'd like it to work yeah. I think it's a direct reflection on the quarterback play that that's been in Minnesota. Obviously his diminished role isn't because of injury or lack of talent. It's because the quarterback isn't getting everybody the ball right. Now I think last ask year when you see how everyone was involved in Adam dealing was getting the football step on digs with everyone was happy. Everyone was performing. Everyone was getting the ball. There were schematically. There were in situations where both of these guys were making big plays and that's what you're used to seeing from the Vikings and I think this year those players just aren't there and there's plays aren't there for those plays aren't necessarily there for Stefan digs for any of those past catches right now because of the quarterback play and I don't know if that's schematics. I don't know if that's simply the quarterback but I think he's unhappy with how he's being utilized and he's taking things into his own hands and to his credit. I've known for some time as well. He's never ever been me guy. He's never been so. This isn't necessarily about putting himself before the team I think at some point he has to look at his career and where he wants to go trajectory wise and make a decision and listening to talk. You almost felt like he had a little bit of emotion coming out when saying I'm a team guy and I'm not a me guy and I'm just trying to put the team. I listen as a football player. I know you can you've experienced this. We only have a certain amount of years and we only have a certain amount of time that we can go out there and play the game so you don't WanNa feel like that. You're wasting a season and I think that's why a lot of guys once they realize look. There's no chance for us to get to the playoffs this year. There's no chance that we're GONNA win in this division this year and teams on the flip side of that. I understand okay yeah. This season is pretty much over so let's try and get some value in some of these guys that are good football players and that's why we're seeing that more this year than maybe in years past. I thought the most interesting thing that he said Real quick when you're asking me if he was going to practice US I don't know I hope so. That's that was the less you know that he has expressed something to the team and he's maybe worried about how they reacted to. How that's what I'm thinking yeah I mean he he clearly was not one hundred percent sure you're next and Steve Young joins US now Steve. We have talked about this before given our conversations and I'm GONNA assume zoom. This doesn't surprise you that we're seeing another example of someone stepping up and saying this isn't working for me no players who are going to continue to demand what's going to be interesting. Is there is is there going to be a market and I think the Jalen Ramsey and if this situation does go forward and these guys are able to get to new teams I I think the ice will break because there are a number I mean everybody in the League has had moments star player now this star players that can do this because they're they're not. GonNa risk career other. You know non star players are not going to risk their careers to demand a trade this cut and so the star players going to say. I know there's a better place for me. I know there's a quarterback it'll throw me the ball and others office coordinator that will take care of me and that's going to continue to grow and I think this is a this is really the really important time Wendy right now awesome because of Jalen Ramsey doesn't get moved and digs does not get moved and the kind of kind of chill this whole thing and can stop it then this market will not not be kind of a burgeoning market but if they start to be able to be moved then everyone the legal realize I can make my way out of here and I wanna be somebody somewhere else and to the to the point just I it was victor. Rodman raw made it but the average career is three point two years in the NFL players are very aware of it. If I'm going to be great I'm going to be great right now. Well there's no question is a pivotal point in the league. We'll see digs by the way signed a five-year seventy two million dollars extension last year the thirteenth highest paid receiver currently in the
