"Suspect accused of a shooting at a hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana, now the subject of a statewide manhunt. Police say to Neil Cole wasn't found at the hospital this morning. The FBI's among the multiple agencies involved in that case the historic choices made yesterday. California Senator Kamala Harris selected is Joe Biden's running mate in the upcoming presidential election. Today we're living Maura about how he delivered the news to Harris. ABC is Adam Kelsey joins me from Washington and Adam. How did the presumptive nominee break the news to Harris? Good morning, Tom. Well, we saw a video tweeted out by Camilla Harris earlier this morning in which we saw Joe Biden on a video chat with her yesterday afternoon, asking her if she was ready to get the work, she laughed, she said, Oh, my God for a second, And she said that she was ready to join the ticket with Joe Biden. Obviously a historic ticket. Kamala Harris, the first black woman, the first person of Asian descent on a future party's presidential pick it and to be perfectly honest with you historic because she now has the Sidetrack whether it's four years from now, eight years from now to potentially become the first female president of the United States. We're gonna hear from Kamala Harris and Joe Biden together in person in Wilmington, Delaware. Later this afternoon. That event's going to take place at around 4 p.m. Eastern. So at one PM for you guys out in Seattle. We're expecting buying to tell if a little bit more about how he landed on Camilla Harris at his choice, how they plan to work together and what the future of this campaign looks like, given the fact that we haven't seen much of Joe Biden past couple months during this Corona virus. Pandemic. Whether or not they're planning to hold Maurin person events beyond today, or whether or not we're going to see them, mostly by virtual means heading into November. And, of course, Joe Biden is the presumptive nominee for president. But really, she becomes the de facto face of the party right now, as you mentioned because, after four years it's not expected he will rerun and she would be very much the front runner at that point. Joe Biden has called himself a transitional candidate for quite some time recognizes his advanced age is gonna be 78 years old. If you've elected sworn in in January, Kamala Harris, only 55 representing a different generation for the Democratic Party on and it's something that you know Joe Biden was kind of pressured in away over the past couple of months, you know, to choose somebody who was a bit younger. Ah, who could, you know? Continue to run into the future and connect with younger voters as well? You know, comma, Harris being 55 years old. Not exactly a spring chicken if you will, you know experience now from one term in Washington, D C is a senator for California. But someone who obviously bridges that gap that Joe Biden was trying to do between the generations. What kind of reaction have we heard from the White House to this election? Well, obviously an immediate backlash from Republicans and from President Trump quickly trying to label Kamala Harris is as extreme far left progressive even though you know throughout her career, and certainly during her own presidential campaign last year that that necessarily wasn't the case. I think Democrats view a comma Harris with somebody who kind of wood hot back and forth between the moderate and progressive wing of the party on different issues, kind of lands herself squarely in the center of the Democratic Party, But it seems I think for now, the Trump campaign's position is going to try to kind of paint her into a corner as a disciple of Bernie Sanders. Somebody who at one point supported Medicare for all and degree new deal on somebody who's potentially pulling Joe Biden left, whether or not that's going to be the case. You know, she was just the vice presidential pick here. She doesn't necessarily get to dictate Joe Biden's platform, but that's gonna be the line of attack. I think that we're going to hear from President Trump in the campaign real quickly switching gears Adam, the US weighing in on the aftermath of controversial elections in Belarus. Sparks a major protests. Yeah. Over the weekend. The president of Belarus, elected to his six term with over 80% of the vote obviously raised some eyebrows, not just in that country but Eastern Europe on across the world. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is in the Czech Republic today on You made some comments on the election, saying that you know, on the On the surface, it seems that those were not free and fair. They sparked protests in the country and the days since thousands of folks have been arrested. And there are some reports out of the country as well. That phone service and Internet service is being restricted. So obviously Infringing upon the rights of those protesters to potentially speak out about any malfeasance. They experience I would expect to hear more from Pompeii and potentially Trump administration as whole as that situation in Valerie's continues to develop, all right, as always great Having you with us had this ABC is Adam Kelsey in Washington. Louisiana Abortion Law Struck Down by Supreme Court

"US Supreme Court has delivered a major defeat to abortion opponents by a 5 to 4 vote, the court struck down in Louisiana law that was virtually identical to a Texas law invalidated by the court four years ago. As NPR's Nina Totenberg reports. The fifth and decisive vote was cast by Chief Justice John Roberts. Four years ago. The chief justice was among the dissenters when the court struck down a Texas law that required doctors performing clinic abortions to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. But today he voted with the courts for liberal justices in striking down a nearly identical law in Louisiana. He wrote for himself alone, however, and said he was joining the Liberals on the outcome because of the doctrine of starry decisis. Which is the legal term for standing by the court's precedents. It instructs us to treat like cases alike, he said, and the Louisiana law burdens women seeking pre viability abortions to the same extent as the Texas law did four years ago. The value of following precedent, he added, is that it promotes the evenhanded, predictable and consistent development of legal principles. Foster's reliance on judicial principles and contributes to the actual and perceived integrity of the judicial process. While president is not an inexorable demand, he said, Simple disagreement with a previous decision is not enough to justify reversing course in this case. Not only is the Louisiana law issue virtually identical to the one struck down four years ago. But the District Court judge who held an extensive trial in the case found that if the law were to go into effect at minimum, two of the three abortion clinics in the state would be forced to close women would have to wait longer and drive further for abortions, and only one doctor would likely be left to fill the demand for 10,000 women seeking abortions in the state each year. Abortion providers and defenders were to say the least relieved. Here's Kathleen Pittman, administrator of the Hope medical group that runs a clinic in Shreveport, Louisiana. To say we're related hardly begins to come close to what? Where you're failing. I'm celebrating today, but I'm still worried about our future. And Nancy, north of president and CEO of the Center for Reproductive Rights, echoed that sentiment. Well, we are taking the Supreme Court cases one victory at a time. We are under no illusions that the fight is over with this case, you know, it's welcome all over and over again. And Leah Lippman, a professor at the University of Michigan Law School, cautioned That Robert's decision sets out a standard different from the one adopted by the court. In the past, the chief justice's reasoning was actually quite permissive in what it would allow states to do to restrict abortion. That said, however, the decision does appear to rule out state laws that, for instance, Ban abortions at 68 12 weeks or any other time prior to fetal viability. Even James Bop, general counsel for Americans United for Life, sees those bands as dead in the water. I've been saying for 10 years that those approaches are doomed to failure. The bop was disappointed in the Roberts opinion. He saw some hope he gives half alone. He sees the Roberts opinion as enabling states to mandate ultrasounds for those seeking an abortion. As well as allowing states to ban abortions for certain reasons, for instance, because of fetal disability or sex. And he sees the decision as sending a message to anti abortion voters tells the pro life movement that President Trump fulfills its promises with his appointment of Gorsuch and Kevin all and that we need Trump reelected in order to make future appointments, political groups on the right and left we're making that very point today. Were one of the liberal justices to retire and two of them are over 80. Another Trump appointment to the high court could make Roberts vote irrelevant. Given that mathematical reality, today's decision is likely to play a significant role in the upcoming election. Polling data has consistently shown a hefty majority of the public approve the right to abortion. But while Americans held similar views in 2016 exit polling at that time showed Trump was able to turn out Maura of his vote based on his stated goal of naming conservative and anti abortion justices to the court. College Football Playoff picks after Championship Week

"So I was I I've already put up my top ten and of course people are are upset about where I have it so here's my final topic I've already told you who the college football playoff gonna be my opinion L. as she was the best team in the country they deserve to be ranked number one whether the committee agrees with me or not that is the only argument tomorrow that's the only intrigue going in to the final rankings is where LSU is ranked in where Ohio state ranked I have Ohio state number two again if you wanna Juxtapoz the two of those teams I don't have a huge problem with it although I think when you look at the rankings in who L. as you is beaten they deserve to be ranked higher climb since number three and I've already said nobody wants to play climbs and I'm gonna say right now claims it's going to be the national champion they're going back to back they're going to surprise I think they're gonna beat the crap out of Ohio state if that's true they play in the semifinals and then it'll be a great game against LSU in the championship game in Oklahoma City at number four I put on my rankings again at John Michaels you I said not sure what to do with spots five through ten not that it matters other than bowl bids because here's where you start to look at there were teams that play this weekend like you talk like Georgia like Baylor who went out and lost football games but there were teams that sat at home and did nothing Florida Penn state Alabama you know all burn these teams were not in championship games so I wonder how much the extra data point of playing in a championship game and losing is going to hurt some of these teams so George's been the number four team they just lost through my number one G. more the number two team of the college football rankings and granted they got spanked but how far would you make the Georgia Bulldogs fall I only have them falling to fifth and I'll explain my rationale here they beat Florida so by virtue of that I cannot have Florida ranked above them their win these are better than Penn state organ Alabama or Baylor so almost by virtue of all of those things I have to have Georgia sitting at number five so that's where I have the fifth ranked team in the country George now do I feel great about Georgia being fifth no I don't I watch Georgia today they did not look like the fifth ranked team in the country I also watch them lose to an eight loss South Carolina team they don't look like the fifth ranked team in the country I don't know Florida at number six again I don't feel overly great about four to be a number six but their losses are true LSU and your Georgia that's it they beat everybody else on their schedule Penn state at number seven they've lost to Ohio state of Minnesota not bad losses their number eight I have worked in who just beat the number five team in the country to jump back into the top ten their losses were to Arizona state and Auburn we were talking about this early on at the beginning of the program crystal weaker ESPN and I really respect really like to work with the bear does on college gameday his analytics all this different stuff he said in a couple of people of after echo the same sentiment organs out of the playoffs by virtue of scheduling offered at the beginning my argument was no they're not they're out of the playoffs causing loss to Arizona state if Oregon beats Arizona state and had won the pac twelve championship over Utah Oregon is in the playoffs the end they would have been in over Oklahoma because they would have come into this week ranked higher their win over Utah would've been more impressed they won by twenty two points against the fifth ranked team in the country in Oklahoma struggled in overtime against Baylor it would've been organ going to the playoffs part of it was because they actually played Auburn and one thing I don't want to see I do not want to see our the pressure come from the outside to where you don't want to see these big marquee match ups at the beginning of the year I love marquee games I love the fact that Alabama sits in plays in one of these openers every single year I like what I see SEC against pac twelve Ohio state against Texas you know Ellis you against Texas you know our Clemson tried to play Texas a and M. they did know the eggs were going to be as bad as they work I want to see or can play all bring these are games you don't typically get so I like seeing these games try the doc sitting at number eight I have Alabama at nine quite frankly I think Alabama all on the field is probably better than everybody that's not in the college football playoff hell they may be better than Oklahoma but they have two losses and then I have Baylor at number ten of course people on Twitter are already arguing somebody named captain Mirka our florists to high in my opinion it's like giving them the same past Georgia got until meeting a buzz saw team from the much tougher SEC west will Johnny Rutledge my buddy played in Florida play for the Indianapolis Colts have a nice long NFL career goes I was gonna ask you talked about to captain Mirka why you thought where they think you thought they should be ranked but I saw your Florida central Florida fan and then they kind of go back and forth as other guys should let Georgian Alabama playing a bowl game for the hell of it so that's where you start to get into these arguments now is who is going to be where the bowl projections then become very interesting and this is where it comes out you know as far as who's gonna be where the rankings become very intriguing we know what the college football playoff gonna be Brett McMurphy who are really like he does have Ellis you one or this was an old when we go back to that because he still had Utah in there so that one's not going to do me any good go find our Brett McMurphy here's what he has for the bowl projections for the interesting balls final one from Brett McMurphy Brett McMurphy has Ellis you playing Oklahoma Ohio state plan climbs in his new years six bowls how about these matchups Wisconsin verse organ although I think Penn state will get and that's just my opinion Sugar Bowl bailar first Georgia do we get George just saying are we don't care about being here like they did last year when Texas kick their **** that's the the old SEC excuse he has yours bowl Virginia verse Florida yeah now yours will be happy because they get Florida and people will show up at hard rock stadium and in the Cotton Bowl Penn state and Memphis US wears Alabama in this day he project Alabama falling to the citrus bowl to play Michigan who trying to look where your Houston Cougars are which usually even volume Houston's bowl eligible he has my Miami hurricanes goodness Miami first southern miss in the independence bowl whole man you know it's bad when you're playing in downtown Shreveport for a bowl game I don't see Houston on here I may have missed them but I don't see the Houston Cougars

Did it would come to be a great injury? The okay. The twenty year old twenty five year old Josh that's still alive. And so I thought said shoot got this buddy. You got this. Uh-huh. So I leave the gate area I walk over to the rental car section, and I say gimme a car, and Avis. Fires it up gets me a cargo in, I get in the car. I tell them hold my beer. I should have. I mean that was basically brain telling me hold, my beer. I punch it in and get in the car getting the rental car is like a twenty fifteen Toyota Corolla awesome. And so my goal was get to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I believe home of Danny domain, our good friend, and planning, Danny domain. I believe, is he in Shreveport or seeing Baton Rouge. Sure it's all the same to me to be honest. It's, it's east of Texas. It's all the same if. So my goal is to get to Baton Rouge. I, I hid Baton Rouge at around two AM. Okay. And I'm looking at the clock. And so I'm looking, and there's, you know, plenty hotels in Baton Rouge, right off of I ten and so like over and but I'm feeling okay? And I'm looking at the clock, and I'm kind of doing calculations of how much further I have. And so I would get like an hour and forty five minutes sleep before I'd have to get up and then drive the rest of the way. Okay. So we screw this jazz. I'm just going through the night. All right. Go through the night. Now make it through, you know, making it through Texas is kind of half the battle. Once you get through Texas stuff's at least starts you start feeling like you're getting closer. Okay. Make it to Baton Rouge, feeling okay? Make it through Louisiana into Mississippi feeling pretty good. Get to Alabama feeling pretty good. And then it starts to kinda hit oh, just the sort of drowziness. And so, I'm okay I'm doing okay. We get I pull up to the valet stand at at the resort. And it solidily like five fifty five AM amid pretty good time thought I was gonna make right originally. But the sun is coming up, which is sort of the harbinger of doom so to speak. Right. Right. And when you look at your GPS you look at that as a challenge when you for sure.

The best deal in the world talking to Jordan Davis. So so I buried the lead you grew up in Shreveport sports fan. You went down to Baton Rouge. So kind of take us through that part of your life. Because as you know, this is a sports show that hears from fans all over the country. You know, it's a those were say those are the best years of my life. I think a victory lap and a half. But it was you know, Baton Rouge is such a special place, you know, obviously athletics. But but also just the university in general. And and and I just did a whole lot of growing up. I think everybody in college. You know, I think you know, the, obviously go there for education. But I think you you find out a lot about yourself in school. And and I was very very blessed to be able to say I'm alumni, Greg university like LSU and also think that we we the best college town in the country, so that doesn't hardy too. But although I gotta say I was in Athens last night. And after does a pretty good job after that's a really cool town. Yeah. I mean, I I would have to agree with you on that. And and as you know, it's a big music town as well. Yeah. But we played a Civic Center down there. But a couple of months ago, we played the George theater, and man is really cool gets the saw a couple of football players out there. I think from was out there, which is really cool and. Man. There's just a just a good night. So when you when when you do appearances that year in Athens, a little bit of robbery between LSU and enjoy Jimmy do you wear your your school colors on your sleeve, or do you try to you try to be a little more neutral because there are a lot of there are a lot of there are a lot of music buyers out there the. Right. You still you wanna you wanna show your loyalty to university? But you also want to record. No, you know, I so I actually played the Georgia theatre the week after LSU be Georgia this past year and we played on Wednesday night. So I couldn't help it say something about it. But I was very, you know, like, hey, you know, y'all got enough we get all this week. You know, and I I feel like I lost a few people there. But you know, I'm a proud tiger. Man. I you know, and I was proud of that victory. So I try to turn it back. But sometimes sometimes I can't I'll take a quick story. I Taylor Hicks who did the the song for our program one American idol fourteen years ago, and as you know, you you you're trying to get people to vote for you from every walk of life. "Although she refused to sign any of the multiple accounts. She gave. Also, not long after the Starks murders, you'll took Peggy to get married in Shreveport, a wife could not be compelled to testify against her husband. Here are some of the things that point to you'll not being the phantom. You will fingerprints did not match any of the latent prints at the Booker, Martin crime-scene Peggy Sweeney. Recanted. Her confession, the Texas Rangers and share of Bill Presley were not convinced that Sweeney was the phantom Sweeney denied being the phantom and never made a confession officers, including Bowie county sheriff Presley Miller county sheriff Davis Texas city chief of police Runnells their officers and both state police departments work day and night for six months trying to validate Peggy Sweeney's story of their whereabouts. They deduce that Peggy was not telling the truth and that on the night of the murder of Booker and Martin. The couple was sleeping in their car. Under a bridge near San Antonio. You will Sweeney was arrested almost two months after the last murders since each took place less than a month apart. It is possible that he was not the killer as he most likely would have moved on somewhere else to continue killing his wife was very young which explains part of her behavior. But they're also must have been something a little off about her as well. Some of the police who took her confession statements said the elevator did not go all the way to the top her bread was not Brown and other sayings like this. So that could mean she was crazy enough to participate in these crimes with you'll or she was crazy enough to make false confessions or she was just odd. Not that you have to be crazy to make false confessions. I do understand how that happens. And it's really sad to see how many have happens because it's just been so hard for people to understand it. But in this case, they all thought something was off about her. I went over everything I learned about you'll and Peggy with someone who is in law enforcement that I know he agreed. It seemed unlikely it was Sweeny. He said, it was definitely possible. Peggy was being led in some parts of her confession letters, especially way, back then whether it was intentional or not also telling the authorities, whatever they wanted to hear, but not the point of signing any of the declarations for some reason this part really bothered him and us then I found out about the letter to her parents I called to tell him. He was right. And here is the clincher. This is a letter from Peggy. He to her parents while she was being held. It comes from the F B I files and is being read as is with uncorrected spelling and grammatical errors. Dear mom, dad and kids will write you again today. How are all of you fine? I hope I guess the sheriff on the Texas side, and that F B I man had been out to the house for they was up to see me yesterday. They still think Sweeney killed those people. I don't know what to do. They don't believe me. So what else can I do? But to tell them that he did it. They will believe ally. If I send Sweeney to the chair that would be on my mind the rest of life for taking his life when he was not the one that kill that little boy and girl on April thirteen I could send him to his chair, then I would be killed that. So and so that you all rented that house from said that we was in the field on. April fourteen that is ally. I wish that dad would have said something to him about it too. I don't think they won't send me to the Penn. But it is Swinney that they are after Mr. Phillip told them some light to I guess, he think if they do away with Sweeney that it would help him to get out and that I would married I wouldn't married him. Now, if I knew I would get out by married him in my books. He don't rate as high as Sweeney does and Sweeney don't rate at all. Mother..
