"Anyway, I thought it was fine for him for a showalter to ask. I thought, oh, what I was going to say, sorry, I've recaptured my training. I thought that people like to bust buster shops and sometimes buster gives them good costs, but he asked in a way that I thought wasn't confrontational. I thought musgrove handled it well. And then they moved on, which is the right thing to do because this guy just threw like an incredible start to send his team to the division series to deal with the buzz saw that is the Dodgers anyway. This game had everything. It was just like such. There's like the tap that guys do on the hinder that sport men do. And then there was showalter who kind of cupped Jacob de Grom's, but and then he went back again and he kind of got him in there a little bit. And as I was watching, I was like, I didn't rewind that 'cause he really got up in there. And I look all right. I'm not here to judge. I'm just remarking on it because it was a lot of. Yeah. It was a lot of touching. Yeah, I have not had the pleasure of a proctologist exam. I have his name already. How could you get rid of Trey Mancini? That was like, this team, well, all right. So let's just, let's just lose all the non die hard fans right now. I'm gonna go on a two minute Orioles rant. And then we're gonna move on. Buck showalter, look how good he's doing with the mets right now, and he was like the heart and soul of that team. I watched I'm all in on baseball now, by the way. I've been watching a lot of baseball. My wife thinks there's something wrong with me. And watching, I'm watching Manny Machado the other day. Play for the Padres. Like that whole team was just that the feel and the vibe of that whole team was so awesome. And then, you know, Trey Mancini was what was left of that, I feel like it was like our remaining sort of connection to maybe not necessarily that year, but just that vibe of being an Orioles fan. And now he's gone. So, you know, I don't know. Being a baseball fan, I feel like it's way harder than being a football fan because it's a 162 games. And they are much less, I don't know, tanking and not tanking. That's not really a sacred thing in baseball, right? So they're just doing it. They don't care. And it doesn't really matter to them. So that to me is harder to accept. Back to reality. And this book showalter, I miss Manny Machado. I miss Trey Mancini. And let's talk about the saints. And I'm as Jorge Lopez. "What can you tell me about the Grom and now Scherzer's status moving forward book? Well, obviously, I know a lot more than I'll let on, but you've got to be careful about telling truths that hurt innocent people, but that doesn't mean you lie. You just try to hold on to some things that you got to be careful about setting deadlines and all of a sudden they don't reach it and it looks like they're behind schedule their hit schedule, I think around the all star break, we'll start getting a lot of these guys back. We lost Trevor May 1 of our key guys in the bullpen. I'm just mentally thinking about around the all star breaking that doesn't happen one of the great things that you have to do as a front office in the coaching staff is think about what is. Okay, what if Lindor is out for a month? What if the doesn't pitch for a while? The season doesn't start. They don't stop the wheel and go, okay, we'll wait till med school by back. And everybody's got issues. Rich, you know, you could you go to another club and you don't compare theirs is more than ours. You got a game tonight at 6 45 and they don't care. And but it's also part of the gig here. You play a sport that you play 7 days a week for 7 months or whatever it is to roll the dice in October if you can get there. And it's part of the gig, being able to overcome this stuff. And you're used to again managing in New York book shelter for an owner who is seemingly demanding. Has a ton of money and wants to win, is there any similarity at all between Steve Cohen and George M Steinbrenner the third buck showalter? All they want to win, you know, Steve's a guy that eliminates excuses. And I love that about him. I mean, if you think someone is important, I know he and his wife was very important and to have one of the best family rooms and sports. And they went about doing that to make it a place where families and people are comfortable. Things like that, the little things that really create a great karma around an organization and he likes it when the mets win. So do I, a lot of people would love to have all owners want to win. But Steve, it's important to him that the New York nets would be good. And that's a short conversation. I'm in. So, and I know you definitely didn't want to spend your birthday talking about the man sign of the check so I can, but there's not many people on Planet Earth who manage for George and now is back in New York City for the other team. Or the Yankees the other team and you're on another. There's not many people. A Tory did it, right? That's about it. I don't know who else is. Yogi, right? I mean, I don't know who else. It's a very short list book. It's kind of interesting. There's a reason why. Why is that? No. No, it's because most of us aren't there. Oh, but he's been great. Since day one, I mean, he's owns a club in the you can do whatever. You know, all the little things, a peripheral thing that can eliminate those things that sometimes challenge the organization behind the scenes. And he just expects a return for emotional and financial investment. I mean, he cares. And he likes sports and baseball. He likes it. He can tell. And it's energized as a club when he's around. We like having him around. He knows the players. He knows what the endgame needs to be. And we share that. And so does Billy eppler and our front office. The challenge is going to be when you go through some tough spells, which we will already have. But you don't wall around in self pity. And it's like I tell the coaching staff and the players, this is your time to shine when you have some challenges along the way. Three time manager of the year buck showalter here on the rich eisen show. So my birthday present to you is I'm going to wave a wand and make you commissioner of the sport. You get to make a little change. No, no, no, you get to make you get to make a rule change. Because baseball is in need of one. I think it's indeed a competition committee. Okay. I don't know if I'm going to anymore. What I did find out is a lot of things. Why don't they do this? Why don't they do that? And then you realize they've been doing studies and spending money on looking at it for two or three years. You go, oh, okay. And then they tell you reasons why it's a little bit of a challenge. And they're trying to look at things in the minor leagues. I mean, all the things that we bring up, why don't they do that? I can tell you a reason and I can tell you that they've been looking at for two or three years and gave me a lot of confidence and the procedure, but it's a very precious game that you have to be careful with. To answer your question, I think you're going to see the pitch clock come in. I think you're going to see a real hard look at the shifts, whether we can go to on each side. I think that's going to probably be seen. Would you like that? Fuck, would you like that? I think the thing that I worry about is not necessarily the link to gain, but the tempo and rhythm. Correct. Action. Right. And I think you're going to see a different pitching. You're going to see different pitching guys are asked to deliver the ball in X seconds. And let's face it two weeks out above the complaint of the umpires will be the bad guys. And then everybody will get in line. They call a ball on a pitcher to make it both for or they call it a strike on someone for strike three. People will be outraged and then all of a sudden everybody will fall in line and we'll figure out maybe while we wait this long. Can you imagine having an NFL game without replay? I mean, it's actually part of the entertainment package and a lot of sports. Right. We look back on a lot of things. Why did we wait so long? I think they're really strongly considering the automated strike zone. That's a real debate. And we have so many things that can make the game reliable and every form. I kind of miss sometimes a human element, but not when it goes against you. I think it's the shift buck that needs to be changed because you're talking about tempo and pace to play in action. The shift takes away too many hits, the shift makes people try to head over it and thus miss the baseball. The shift, I think, is the cause of all of it, personally. So you're going to look at middle infielders differently. You're not going to get that big second basement that you put out in right field. They're going to have to have a different athleticism term. You go. See a different I think some different players come into play more. Okay. I think I'm a little concerned about if pictures are chasing this philosophy, which they all are and they need a long period of time to gather to throw their best torque pitch. I worry a little bit physically with it. But I think guys will fall in line. I think you might see more guys more interested in command than velocity. I think it will bring some other pictures into play that weren't, but I think it's coming, whether we want it or not. And I think most people do. But there will be some periods where people will question it. And that's part of it. So how we make good decisions when we go, what if what if this, what if that, you know, can you put your outfielders on the infielder infield and there's a lot of questions? Where is the line of demarcation or guys have to play on? Can they move while the pitch is coming? There's a lot of managers have a way of kind of bending the rules. One thing I do miss with so much will replay, there's not much arguing with umpire as much anymore. Well, I mean, yeah. And the fact that the umps have to explain themselves on what the rulings are, like every other sport. We go to home player and they're wired up. They've got wires. They've got microphones, they've got beepers. These poor guys, they must say, I was getting yesterday to the guy to say it takes me about half an hour to get dressed to come out to the game now. They got tough job. They have a tough job. Are you trying to get a call through the rich eisen show buck? Is that what you're trying to do? You're trying to get a call tonight through buttering them up through my program. Is that what you're trying to do?.

"No. I would say I would say the opposite, I would say this is a very special day and a special way to spend it. Don't you think? It beats the alternative. We're not getting out of this a lot rich. Oh, man. You know, you learn a lot about a guy at midnight on a set with an empty Yankee Stadium and it's about 35, 40°. It was freezing. That is correct, sir. You do learn a lot. You had an overcoat. That was special. I learned something to you that you actually should look at the weather. Also going through airport security in that day and age as well. That was great. Hey, buck, I'm so thrilled. You're back as a skipper in New York City. You're so awesome at it. I'm wondering what your thoughts were when you had that opportunity placed in front of you and what you're doing with it. Well, you know, it's an honor, anytime you know, there's not a day goes by, which I realize how lucky I am to be allowed to be around these guys and great organization that's really moving forward for a lot of reasons and great ownership and the great leadership in the front office with Billy epley and his group are just so many things that owning I have to worry about is just managing the team and obviously that's a full fledged job and there's just a lot of good energy now. We understand we're going played 43 games. There's an attorney left, but it's good to be always like to have people feel good. We know there's going to be some lots along the way and we're already have been. As far as some injuries and stuff, but people are happy. They don't want to hear about your problems and they're happy that you got them. That's like complain about playing a day game after a night game or a double header. Trust me, there's a lot of people out there. Don't want to hear about you standing in a nice hotel and final and charter plane and get in at three or 4 o'clock in the morning. I mean, spare me. It's a great way to make a living. And I'm just trying to say out of the way and we got some good players that care. And that's what I'll say about them. And they're fun to be around. So I imagine one of those guys would be Pete Alonso, who I've gotten to interview on this program. And he's just so dynamite. You've been around, I mentioned New York City and what it takes to succeed there. Why do you think it works so well for Pete Alonso? I think Pete's just so sincere. He's just, you know, he's the same guy every day he walks through the door. I mean, think about things that he's going through already this year. I think people miss how strong mentally he is. I mean, the guys flips his car three times. I mean, can you imagine as you're spinning around your wife set the red light behind you, they're making the move spring training. And I think I was kidding him later when it calmed down. I said, how did you feel about doing those leg presses? And they all season because he basically leg press the windshield out to get out. And then he comes over to the ballpark and then who knows, while later he's hitting the face with a baseball and hit in the shoulder and hit again and I mean, I don't think sometimes we understand the intestinal fortitude it takes for these guys to climb in the boxes today with a slick ball and cold weather and guys a lot of times they're not intentional most times are not insulin just they can't come in the fastball and they're throwing 95 to a hundred miles an hour and just keeps climbing in there and competing. When he collides with the ball, it does special things. Yeah, and he just, he does seem to have the mentality where a fan base places so much into him and on his shoulders, he seems to handle it like it's nobody's business, but well I think he understands like a lot of guys and it's a good example. It's a responsibility. When you're doing something that's so important to a big fan base like ours is, I mean, it's part of your responsibility. It's like a tell guys about autographs. When you have to worry is when they quit asking. Okay, when your opinion doesn't mean something and Pete's, he doesn't want to do it necessarily, but he looks at it as part of his responsibility. You're getting fourth for the New York mets. You're going to be asked questions and I think he handles it well and what comes across which is just sincere. There's not any following us about Pete and he's approachable every day by regards what happened the night before and I think Pete's looking for a weakness if he's got one. He's going to attack it. You know, he's going to attack it. He's not a guy so well, I hit well and the heck with the rest of the stuff. He wants to be a good base runner. He wants to be a great first baseman he's made he's done well over there. He wants to be good at everything. Folks showalter manager the mets here on the rich eisen show, you mentioned problems, if you will..

"On in this third hour, Josh Charles, the actor, who is dynamite and everything that he does, he'll be joining us in about 20 minutes time. On the program earlier, TJ, you brought up the fact that I clapped back at someone on Twitter who told me to stick to the NFL when I was talking about the NBA and they said I will not. Well, I did is I responded. I retweeted with a photograph of me from the last dance documentary where I was sitting on the SportsCenter set in 1997 talking about the bulls. Yes. Because I spent 7 years at ESPN before I was on NFL network. And that's not the only lane that I can get in outside of the NFL. Did you know I was the first ever voice of Major League Baseball on ESPN radio. It was the first ever studio host on ESPN radio to welcome people to Major League Baseball's coverage when they got that package. I believe you did. I spent 7 years covering the sport that I love very much called baseball. I went to the World Series almost every damn year because of that. For either sports center or ESPN radio. And one of those years, 2001, Yankees versus the Diamondbacks is where I met this man who I was thrilled to work with because he was so terrific as manager of the New York Yankees. And then he was a manager of the Diamondbacks. And then I got to work this World Series with him, got to know him, got to travel around the country with him, got to go through airport security with him. And so when I heard the rumor was that the mets were thinking of hiring him, what I say, what did I say? They should do it. They should do that. And they should do that. They should do that. That's right. That's kind of like chance the rapper, right? That's what it basically, as I said right there. You should do that. That's what I did. And then that did that and look at them now. "It falls on the warning track. Nemo's coming around third. He will score. Incredibly, it is now 8 to 7 mets on Marte's double to the base of the left center field wall. They've scored 7 times in the 9th inning. It's got pransky was speechless assemble. I think you agree with me there for a second on sports radio 94 WIP because of what happened to Phillies last night. Yeah, it's a good thing that this is not one of those baseball tonight podcasts that were broadcasting on YouTube. So viewers and listeners didn't have to see two specific fingers that I'm holding up to you at the moment. So I appreciate the kind of words about the girls that I'm having in September, but what happened last night in Philadelphia was unimaginable. It is the most painful thing in the world to lose a game like that. But honestly, it's not really all that surprising. I went to that par for the course, but we've watched the Phillies bullpen implode over the previous two seasons. We've seen Joe Girardi mismanage that bullpen over the previous two seasons. And we've also seen bulk showalter come in and instill a culture very quickly in the Met's Clubhouse where that's at least possible. You know, a year or two ago, that was not possible. But not only did the mets squirrel those runs in the 9th inning, but the mets pitching held the filling scoreless for the last 5 innings of that game to make that possible. So I guess it goes to show you how far the mets have come in such a short period of time. And how the film is at the same old same old. Okay, we're going to dig into the Philly just a little bit more, but I want to hear literally what your reaction was as that was playing out. Okay. I mean, I would describe it as watching a train crash happened in slow motion because there became this sense of pain. Were you in your living room where you might I'm in my bed in the game? Yeah. I'm in my bedroom. I'm watching the game on you because my wife is sleeping. And I would say I wake up very early, so I contribute to how cranky I am this morning. But once at which point in the evening, it became obvious to me that the Phillies were going to lose the game. But I actually considered turning it off because I didn't want to see it happen. So that's where I am as a Philadelphia fan at the moment. The sixers are crumbling before our very eyes. And as soon as that lead started to begun chipped away at, it's just became obvious but I'm at the point in my fandom now where it was like this ominous thing when we're leading 7 to three. It's the worst. It's the worst possible thing imaginable. The thing that made it even worse was through it that I knew it was going to happen way before it did. That was the feeling that I was actually having one. That's when I turned off the game and I started watching other games and then my son raised me and texted me last night late and he goes, dude. And that's all he said in a moment. I have no idea what that means. He goes, did you see what happened with the Phillies? So I wish I had done the same. I wish I had this. I wish I could. And this lead right perfectly into a game that you suggested before that blown lead last night, a game of panic or patience in regards to three teams and we'll start with the Phillies, is it time for panic or is it time for patience? Oh, it is time to panic..

He's expected to miss his next two starts after leaving Friday's opener falling four innings due to abdominal tightness in his left side. In Washington over the weekend, tempers flared in that series between the mets and the nationals. There was a bunch of mets who kept getting hit by pitches. Two two coming to Alonso. We're to get him. He thought he got him on the shoulder. He thought to him out of glanced off his face after a hit is shoulder. Not sure. I can buckle's going to come out and make sure he's okay when he allows him to go. In fact, he's going to not even allow him to go to first. This is a fluid bullpen. Oh no. "So sometimes you have the skill set and you just need to get to a good team for the first time. Obviously, buck's been with some good teams, but sometimes maybe your skill set just isn't the right fit for a certain group of players, whether it's just a chemistry issue or bad timing or whatever it is, like maybe it just doesn't gel well in a certain time and place and then you get another opportunity and suddenly everything clicks and maybe you learned and improved as you went on or maybe you were good all along and you were just in the wrong situation. But sometimes managers can really change the story about themselves. So maybe that would be the story that showalter gets some redemption or the mets get some redemption because I think this is actually the best team that showalter has taken over and that sort of sad because the mets were not a great team in 2021. They won 77 games, but that's the most games one by any team the year before buck showalter got the job with them, right? Like typically he has taken over teams that were bad or were expansion teams, and he just really had to build them up, whereas with the mets, they were a winning team for much of that year before their late season collapse and they are certainly expected to contend and they have spent and they have acquired good players this off season. So for once at least he's in the situation where he is supposed to win right away. Right. And you know it's not just the mets in their 77 wins, the most for any team buck showalter is taking over, but I think probably just on paper. You know, the gap grows even more because I bet you know when 2022 rolls around God willing, you know, the mets will probably be even higher in terms of projections and just looking at who's on their roster. Yeah. And it is the sort of thing where you try some rookie managers and maybe things don't work out. Well then you're going to go with the elder statesman. I guess buck showalter in a league with Tony La Russa is not anywhere near the elder space station. He's a spring chicken comparatively speaking. But you go with the experience veteran who has control of the Clubhouse and commands respect and is a known commodity essentially. And managers do evolve over time and I think she'll Walter probably has when it comes to analytics and that aspects of things. Although it's interesting because he definitely seems to be someone who is used to having a little bit more control than modern managers do, like he is interested in putting his stamp on the whole developmental pipeline, and he's interested in what's going on in the miners and setting your philosophy all the way up. And that's not really the way that it works for most modern younger managers these days who started out in this era where the front office really reigned supreme. So it'll be interesting to see whether he is willing to conform to the new model or whether the mets just said it's worth it to have this guy who brings all of this preparation and people respect him. And we will just adjust and maybe we will give him a little more leeway or latitude than the typical manager would. And if he can just stop the sensational stories and stop infielders fighting each other over their positioning and claiming that it was because they saw some animal in the tunnel in the tuck out. If that sort of thing doesn't go on when buckshots around, then that would be an improvement. That's all the books show Walter talk I have in me. Yeah, that's about all I got too. One of these days, maybe there will be another manager real hiring the a's are still in the market for a manager. And it sounds like they may be interested in internal higher mercat or maybe one of the other finalists for the mets who didn't get that gig. But that's about all we got for baseball news and that is why we're here because you are our topic for today. Your career being a baseball YouTuber. It is a medium that I enjoy, but have basically no experience with myself creating baseball videos. I have done that very rarely and very poorly and you are one of the masters of the median, I think. You are universally appraised as one of the best baseball YouTubers and I have enjoyed your work myself. So give us a little bit of the Bailey origin story. I know that you kind of started out as an out of the park baseball YouTuber and my impression is that you were doing decently making those videos and getting a few thousand hits or several thousand hits and then suddenly you branched out into more general baseball topics. And you were getting like a million hits or more and maybe you figured, oh, okay, maybe. Maybe this makes sense then that I can cater to all baseball fans instead of people who play out of the park exclusively. Right, so the first few dozen uploads on the foolish baseball channel are B playing out of the park baseball and it started I think with the series of tutorials. You know, I just was kind of addressing a need in the community. I felt like, you know, I know how to play this game, but I know that it can be daunting to newcomer, so I'm just going to create a series of tutorials for new players, so I did that and I did a play through series with the Chicago White Sox and after that I had just kind of felt like I ran the course without the park baseball, but at the.
