Instead, he says that our differences in this country and our ability to stay at the table and forge solutions together, even when it's hard and even when we disagree, is a uniquely American form of strength and grit. How in the world do you do that when Democrats and Republicans espouse completely different ideals? Well, they actually don't. In the survey, respondents were asked to rate the importance of six principles, personal responsibility, fair enforcement of the law, representative government, government accountability, compassion and respect across differences, as well as learning from the past. In each of those core values, 90 percent of both Democrats and Republicans rated them as very or extremely important. In other words, we share the same core values. No one is suggesting Pollyanna -ing our country so we're suddenly all in agreement. Fishman says having differences is what makes America, America. He just thinks it's time to be honest and this together. By leaning, there are core values we can agree on, and that is a good place to begin a conversation. If we all look in the mirror and say, what can I do? How can I show up differently in a way that affects my community? Otani's infield single in the 8th broke a 5 all tie. Angels manager Phil Nevin was happy with the split. A lot of talent over there. It's been fun, you know, obviously I've been on the division with them for a while and to see what it's become it's a pretty special place, so to get two wins out of here. Yeah, it's big. He gets pounded at times when, you know, sometimes when he, you know, the piece of metal with the World Series, you know, his verbiage can get him in trouble. And I think on wanted and he's not fair about it, but I think in this situation, he comes across very well. And I think this was a good deal, so I think he needs a legacy moment. So good for him if this turns out to be exactly that. He's Chris mad dog Russo host of mad dog unleashed on SiriusXM channel. 82 host of high heat on MLB network. Draymond green says, oh, great. I don't know what the solution here is, Chris. But is that asking too much to say you got to play in at least 65 games? I'm with you a 1000%. "Is? Or guess who? Of course. The Oakland a's. In Oakland. They supposed to own everything right. And now you're going to go, no, you know, let's tuck him away. Oakland's going to be one of the worst teams in ohtani is going to be the starting pitcher. I got to put him on display. The NBA would never do this. Right? The NBA would never do that. It'd be like, all right, let's see, LeBron is going to play who Steph Curry is going to play who. How about LeBron and Steph Curry against each other? People want to see Shohei Ohtani. He got momentum. People are interested. And he's going to end up with game against the Oakland a's. Watch him throw a no hitter. But a great month for baseball. I'm excited if you didn't hear the commissioner yesterday. And I enjoy it because, you know, there's a David stern field that I can push him a little bit. We can push each other a little bit. And I was appreciate that. Because I'm speaking for the fans speaking for you, asking some of these questions here as we move forward. We're headed towards umpires with the automatic strike zone. It's not a question of if, but when. And just so you know, the umpires will still be there. Although I'd like to see AI, I'd like to see robots back there, Steve, Reich. I'm going to run you. Out of here. How about celebrity voices for the robot umpire? You're like Matthew McConaughey, a little chill vibe. But we're going to have an automated strike zone. We are. And all it's going to be is the umpire will have an earpiece you'll have what's called an IFB. And they'll just say strike ball. And it'll happen quickly. And it's happening in the minor leagues. It's going to happen in Major League Baseball. And you have the visual component where you're going to show it just like tennis, where the ball is in or out. And then there's no arguing there. Now you can say, oh, I'm going to miss arguing. And umpires coming out there, grown men in uniforms, kicking dirt on the home plate or something. But we're headed that way. And it's in the not too distant future. Yes, Paul. I can get you into the a's game tonight. There are good seats still available for Oakland ace. I can probably play for the a's tonight. $22 will get you in the door. And the highest priced ticket in the whole building is two 70. You could sit behind home plate and watch Shohei Ohtani tonight for the price of like a regular season NFL team. How is that not a national showcase? I don't get it. Yes, he kind of a sidebar, but did you see the story on who the fourth highest paid Cincinnati red is this year? It is Ken griffey junior. Ken griffey junior, come on down. I love that stuff. Oh man. Yeah. Good stuff. There's dudes playing every day that don't make as much money as a guy who retired 13 years ago. Righty, let's take a break. Chris mannix going to join us. I'm curious who was MVP is this year? We'll get his thoughts coming up. And how dangerous are the Lakers? How dangerous are the Golden State Warriors? It feels and there's trouble in Dallas. Right now, baseball is winning with 52% of the vote. I could see that. In second. Cam Newton had his pro day, or did he have a pro day yesterday? Did he participate in auburn's pro day? His younger brother, who was a quarterback in college, then became a wide receiver. He was there. Hoping to get drafted or signed by a team and cam was there, cam and age 33, quarterbacks are still playing. Cam hasn't played in a little while and I was wondering if he was doing that just to nudge people to say, I'm still here. And on a pro day you can look good, you know, roll left, throwback, right, you throw it 50 yards and people go, wow, we did that with Zach Wilson. But I don't know how healthy is. I'd like to know he didn't talk to reporters afterwards. And I was wondering, did we make this a pro day sort of a coming out party for Cam Newton? I don't know if he says, hey, he said before on record, I'm there aren't 32 quarterbacks better than me. No, there's probably more than 32 quarterbacks better than you. But was he there for, was he showcasing his talent? It felt like, hey, I'll go there. I'll help you out. I'll get more eyes on this. But I'm not there to showcase my talents. I don't need to. Yes, you can. Yeah, I mean, it feels like the auburn pro day wasn't getting a ton of attention before. He signed on. No, it wasn't. I don't know of any player where you go, wow, you seen the kid at auburn. But cam shows up and his younger brother was there catching passes. And cam didn't talk to any team. But you can't sign him. He can't be a backup quarterback. He's not a starting quarterback. He's famous. See, that's the thing. He's 33s famous, but he's not, you know, a great football player anymore. Even a very good football player anymore, and go back on what he did with the Patriots. He lost what all 5 of those starts there. And he just didn't look like cam. And that's part of the risk and the reward of playing the way he played. Because you take those hits and then you're not the same player. And then you can't play that way. And he's not a pocket quarterback. Yeah. Yeah, but I want storylines. I want Cam Newton on a roster. How about this? The NFL opens up a third roster spot for the quarterback. But it has to be someone that's interesting. Like Tebow has to go to down to Tampa or Cam Newton has to go to Carolina. But I can't have you. Jay cutler's on the bears again. I can't have you in uniform because if I have you in uniform, the camera is going to go, it's called the cam cam. And you're going to go right to cam, if there's an interception. And then you're going to go to T Bo if somebody throws an interception. Then you can have them in an emergency. Yes, more. But Tebow is going to be encouraging. Kim isn't. Cam's going to roll his eyes, chew his gum and just look right into the camera like, you see this, right? Yeah. And then in

"Yeah, Pauly. I was thinking with Ali, you were there, I wasn't when his early days of boxing. Did he grow the sport of boxing, but maybe his legacy, I don't want to go to offshoot here, is more about athlete empowerment. And athletes speaking up for themselves, he was the first one to defy anybody. And maybe his is much more out of the ring than in the ring. Well, you had Ali, you had Bill Russell. You had Jim Brown, Kareem, that they took on social injustice. They took on those issues. They stood in front of people. Ali, you know, missed out on three years in his prime because of the Vietnam War. And then came back lost to Joe Frazier, eventually reclaimed heavyweight champ of the world. But boxing was so important back then. It was big. And you were able to watch it. We had closed circuit TV. You go to theaters to watch this. And now we have that where you're closed circuit TV or you're doing it at your house. But back then, you had to go someplace to be able to watch this. And Ali had eyeballs on the sport. Because no one was like him. Every athlete is an imitator of Ali. That's the guy who would tell the guy he was going to knock him out and he'd have a poem about him right in front of him. He was an unbelievable promoter. LeBron's legacy may be, but he does off the court with schools that he's building. You know, to me, the greatest basketball player of all time, if I look at everything that he's done, start to finish, he doesn't have the bottom line resume of championships. I know we've argued this before discuss this before, and this isn't the place, but if I look at doing everything on a basketball floor, and then I saw where it was at Mario Chalmers, who and it felt like the quote was out of context, but he was a former teammate of Lebrons with the Miami Heat. And he said, basically, nobody fears LeBron and okay, nobody fears him. Mike intimidated people. People feared Michael Jordan. I thought. You were going to get embarrassed. I don't know if you feel like all LeBron's going to embarrass me. Yes, Pauly. Yeah, Mario Chalmers kind of put in context. He said they had a different style. LeBron's the kind of guy who would shake your hand, give you a hug before a game. And he's friends with the other people. He's still a killer as a basketball player. But he said, Jordan wouldn't look at you or talk to you and made you a little bit scared to say something to him because he would react. What didn't John smoltz confirmed it yesterday? He goes, when I play golf with Jordan, I shut my mouth, you know? And bird was like this. You know, a certain players that were Shaq was like that, Shaq would intimidate you. You'd fear or Shaq because he would embarrass you. But yeah, like I think Pauly said the word killer there, right? Like LeBron is a really great basketball player. But Kobe was a killer. Yeah. Right, Michael was a killer, but Kobe wanted to be Mike. Then he came in real close to being Mike. Yeah. I think LeBron wanted to be Mike, but he couldn't play the way Mike did. And his personality is not like that. In LeBron is passive aggressive, it feels like. Whereas Mike was just aggressive. There are times when I would watch him in warm ups. As strange as that is going to sound, I just wanted to see how he warmed up. Did he did it kind of boil? Did it simmer and then come to a boil when the game started? And he was no nonsense. It was like, okay, I got, I'm working on this. I'm doing this. He was not there to have fun. It was, it felt like every single night with Jordan was an audition. Or I, you know, I am going to prove to you, and you would think that certain guys had a chip on their shoulder that they go out and have to prove every single night. Here's Mike and it felt like he was still, I'm going to prove to you. Even when he went to the wizards, I'm going to prove to you. And he had that mentality. I don't think you can turn it off once you recall. Remember when Mike, the Dream Team? He said there's a new sheriff in town and magic and bird goes. He ain't lying. Here's the two best players. This is after practice. And they realized it. Holy smoke show. Here he comes and nobody's going to stop him. But I think Mike always played with a chip on his shoulder. And that's what made it even more amazing. You're the most athletically gifted you work hard, and now you have a chip on your shoulder. Yeah, pulling. The more people we have on the show, it's almost like Michael Jordan is this freak athlete, not because of athletic ability because of like unsatisfiability. You know, he's always angry, always looking for something. You can't develop that. I think Kobe almost almost manufactured it and kind of put it into play as like a daily lifestyle to be like Mike and it worked for Kobe. But Johnson told a story that he and Jordan were golfing, Jordan's giving us resume out. As if John small has no idea who he's golfing against. And it's 38° and they're playing golf and Mike is out there and nobody else is on the golf course. And Mike is reciting three time MVP. Three championships, championship and college, and he's getting ready for what a 35 foot putt or something like that. But if you watch Jordan at his Hall of Fame speech, then you know what Mike was all about. Because it was a roast, he was receipts. I own you. I own you. All right, dude, you're already the best. Oh my God, man. He can't, he can't turn that off. Chill out. And you know what, when you're an owner, you can only be so competitive because there's, you can't control anything. And be like, I'm competitive. I'm taking Adam Morrison. All right, that's a mistake. I'm taking Kwame Brown. That's a mistake. I'm taking who is it Brandon Brandon Wright? Yeah. Yeah, sorry, Mike, you can be competitive, but those are bad decisions there. Yeah, Marc. At the end of his Hall of Fame speech, he was saying he was referring to me coming back and people started laughing and dead look on his face. He says, don't laugh. He got mad. He got real men. I thought he over, I thought he was an overachiever. Because I already thought, okay, you're going to be a Hall of Famer, but he was possessed at being the greatest of all time. And once again, I go back to watching him in warmups. I loved watching guys in warmups. If you got a chance to be on the floor, John Stockton, no joking, no nonsense, no nothing. He had, he worked on things. Certain guys, I used to go to the Boston garden when the Celtics were in the finals. And I would get there three hours before the game. Because I knew if I walked in like by snuck in, I was covering the NBA Finals, but I couldn't get in the building. And I could hear the basketball and bird was out there shooting. And I just sat upstairs at the Boston garden and watched. And just to see where he went and why he went where he went on the floor, because he had a routine, and then he would run. He would run around on the upper deck. This is before the game. Now he's just fascinated with that. Pete maravich was another player, just watched him in warm ups. But he wanted he wanted you to watch him. He wanted to show off. He wanted to be the entertainer there. The other guys had this workman like mentality there that I was always

"The world. The guy seemed to do a great job. He was interviewed right after the game, and he was just cruising back and forth. That seems like a great gig. What was the scene with Bill Murray? Was there lost in translation? Lost in translation. So they start talking and then they're shooting the commercial, the whisky commercial. Yes. Right. And then the Japanese director gives a long critique he's yelling in Japanese, obviously, to Bill Murray. And the translator goes, he said good job. And Bill Murray goes, that's all he said. That's the entirety of what he said. It seems like he said more. Yeah. I can't do Bill Murray. Or no, prince, don't you have mock headlines with Shohei Ohtani? Oh, I had a Japan ammonium. Okay. I like that. One, two, three strikes your trout. All right. That was another one. Got another one. Hook line and stinker. It's thinker. Anything else? I think I had a third one. Did you have one on Otani? I don't think I did. Yeah, I think you did. I think you did. Oh, shohei the money. He wants a new deal from the halos. Okay. Joe hate the money. All right. Which is a contract situation. You're not going to believe this. This guy should fire out grievance. Show it Tony made $5.5 million last season. 2022. To be all star pitcher and hitter. This year he will make $30 million, just one check, but then he is a, it appears that he's a complete free agent. After this season. UFA going to 2024. So the angels either have to trade him, oh my gosh. Well, the owner already in Renault said he's not trading him. But is that the smart thing? Like if you could go back 6 years and trade Mike Trout. I had said that a couple of years ago that, you know, are you going to win with Mike Trout? Can you get how many pieces can you get for Mike Trout? Wonderful player? As I've said, first battle Hall of Famer. Get all that. But are you winning? An Otani is 28. And I think you've got to start looking at this. Are we going to win? Let's say you have a 5 year window. And this goes back to Albert Pujols, because I thought, okay, I thought the angels were overpaying. You guys who's got a microphone on. That you were overpaying for Albert Pujols, but you were trying to win a World Series. And you had a 5 year window, and it didn't work out. But do you have a 5 year window here? What is your plan? And what's Otani going to cost you? Because I still maintain he's two salaries. You could make a legitimate case for being an all star pitcher and an all star hitter. And if you're saying, okay, is he an a or a minus at pitching or hitting? Probably an a minus it hitting in a B plus it pitching. That's two salaries. At least $50 million a year, and is that going to be 12 years, $600 million? Right. Because of the global draw that you have with him. He's the most valuable player in baseball. I know Aaron Aaron judge was wonderful last year and won the MVP, but when you're talking about value to a league, it goes back to Michael Jordan. The most LeBron is the most valuable player to the league. And Michael Jordan was, and you have that with Shohei Ohtani. Players who somebody else may win the MVP, but as far as value goes to every other club, when they come to town. You have that with shohei oh ton. You would go see Shohei Ohtani. That was my question. If you own the angels, you could have showy Otani and I have a fan draw every day it's not just a pitcher just a hitter or you could say for the good of the franchise and trying to win, we're going to trade him for the biggest trade in baseball history. You get the most back of probably anyone ever and convince your fans. Yeah, we won't have him. You have a declining Mike Trout, come to the ballpark the next three years. Yeah, but I wonder, do you want to come out to see a winning team? Or do you want to come out to see Shohei Ohtani? And I wonder if that's going to happen with the angels. And you're going to have to trade him during the season because he becomes an unrestricted free agent. I don't know what his agent makes. 3% of that, 4% of that. What he's got two agents one for hitting one for pitching. What if he says, you know, I'm going to go a little more Jackson route. I'm not going to have an agent. I'm going to handle this by saying he could. How much money would he say? Let's say, what do agents get? 2%, 3%, and if let's say it's $500 million. That would be 15 million, the agent would get on the lifetime of that deal, right? Does that sound right? 15 million is 3% of 500 million? Okay. I'll take your word. I sound authoritative when I said it. Yeah. Todd, were you good in math or just memorizing things? I was good at math, but I was better at proving two triangles, congruent with geometry, algebra. Good at Googling things. And 15 million is correct. Okay. All right. Nailed it. He could save 15 million. I'm going to do this. Just say, here's what I want. I don't need any help to do this. A couple of phone calls in here. We got the poll question. Who was the big winner, the WBC? Kevin in North Carolina. Hi, Kevin. What's on your mind today? Hey, Kev. A real quick. And some random information. I got a lifelong friend of mine at the coworker of your boy James up there in Virginia. We're both having a listener. But I was calling about this Michael Jordan, the movie. I can't wait to go see it myself. But it brings up a question like what Jordan, you know, the just do it and be like Mike and the whole global brand that he has, the Dream Team that what he brought to the game, when you entail all that, as anybody else done more for the game as a whole than Michael Jordan and look at him 23, 30 years later. Don't even use social media and he remains relevant. And it ain't even because he's the owner because he's a bad owner. And that still hasn't been this reputation. What is LeBron going to hang his head on in 20 to 30 years? Does he have a brand like Jordan that he's going to he's going to remain relevant outside of social media? Well, nobody's going to be like Jordan. Jordan, and I've said this before, Jordan is Neil Armstrong. He's the first man on the moon. There have been other people who have been on the moon. And there's a total of 12 people been on the moon, but you probably only know Neil Armstrong. And that's Michael Jordan. Babe Ruth, what he did for baseball back in the 20s and 30s. I don't know if that could be measured, but he was the singular biggest star, probably in the world. Certainly in the United States, Wayne Gretzky with what he did with hockey. Gretzky is responsible for the growth, the expansion of hockey in the United States. Because everybody wanted to have a franchise, they wanted to have Gretzky come to town because he was such a big deal. Tiger with golf, Tiger woody did globally with that sport. And then, you know, you have Mike. So LeBron can't be like Mike. You know, we may want to be like Mike, but he can't be like Mike, because there was Mike. Ali was a brand globally, what he did for boxing. And I'm sure I'm leaving out people here, but you do have these people who were larger than just their careers. And the fact that Mike has an unbelievable product is so important to this. It's a great product. It's a fashion statement. It is, you know, it represents a lot of things to a lot of different people. Yes. Yeah, there can never be another one of those. What he's done, where you have, you know, Derek Jeter wore the Jordan brand. And Lionel Messi wears it right now. You know what I mean? That's you're never gonna do

"Had 1992 because we're going to get that gold medal. You don't beat us. This could be good for the WBC. And I enjoyed it. I watched a lot more than I thought I was going to. It's especially with Japan. I love the atmosphere that Japan brought to the WBC. And it was on a Tuesday night. There was no competition. It was wonderful, stand-alone, and, you know, it was on Fox Sports one. It wasn't even on Fox. But it was covered. It was covered around the world and baseball has had a wonderful 6 weeks here. New rules, you're watching more spring training, you're curious about these pitch clocks. Hit clocks, batter clocks, the commissioner will join us coming up next week, but it was fun. There was an atmosphere there. There was excitement. You got to see some of these players that maybe you know, on the periphery, if you cover baseball watch baseball, and you're like, oh, yeah, I know that guy. But to be able to watch them, and I couldn't help but think when I'm watching Otani, I hope this is in his biggest moment he's going to have. Because he's got to be looking at the guy at the plate and Mike Trout and going, do I want to have a career like Mike Trout? And Mike Trout's going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer, but he's not on the big stage. And that's what I miss about this. And that's why I was rooting for Mike Trout. That you get that opportunity. But there's no guarantee. Even expanding playoffs. If he's going to be able to play in more playoff, he played in three. And even those games, they were in Kansas City. He didn't even get one against the, you know, Yankees. Yeah, pulling. And showing a ton he's not a kid. He's not like 24 years old. He's 28. He's in his prime. He's going into his prime. Yeah, and he's got one more year there. And then you wonder, he's going to get one of those 1212 year contracts. I'm going to guess. But you're going to get that from the angels. You're going to have, and I'm sure a couple other teams are going to go. We'll take him. We'll take it from here. But Shohei Ohtani is the unicorn. Absolutely. All right, we'll take a break. And senator Bill Bradley, nicks Hall of Famer, Princeton grad on Princeton and the sweet 16 in the passing of his former teammate Willis Reed passing away at the age of 80. See, what's the poll question today? Well, we could go one of two ways, Dan. Who is the big winner from this year's world baseball classic? Okay. Was it Japan? Was it Puerto Rico? Shohei Ohtani. Or baseball. I'd say baseball. Feels like that, right? Yeah, I'd say baseball. You just want eyes on the sport. That's all you want. And you would think during March Madness, you might lose some of those eyes. Or those eyes might not be as interested, but I think the product was really good. You didn't have it placed strategically, certainly last night, where there's no competition there. And given everything that's happened with the NFL, Aaron Rodgers, that's kind of quiet, Lamar Jackson's kind of quiet. So there's not much going on yet, and it felt like they had their window. They took advantage of it. And I thought that it was great, you know, Fox did a great job with it. And I thought that if you were in it early, you understood it, and it was hard to turn it off. Yeah. Is there a better niche job in all of sports than Shohei Ohtani's translator? He's getting more and more famous, more and more interview requests, traveling

"A contrarian. Like, no, I'm not going to, I'm not going to be a Laker fan. You know, I'm tired of winning, you know? It'd be like you're an auburn football fan, as opposed to an Alabama fan. Like, no, no, I don't like dynasties. I don't like great teams. But the clippers losing Paul George, we don't know the severity of that, but it looked bad. St. John's introduces Rick Pitino and it was packed house. All you gotta do is look at the NCAA tournament and the number of players who are from New York City and if you can get some of those guys in the portal, you can keep those players in New York, Rick Pitino will be successful. I'll be surprised if he's not successful. And the portal is coming up in the next two weeks. If you keep some of those players and there's a couple of point guards who are in the tournament now Marv. Yeah, starting point guard for Michigan state. They were actually both of them were my best of the weekend. The two point guards from Kansas state and from Michigan state, they're both from New York City. Once from Harlem, the one with the Christ the king out in Queens. In Queens. Yeah. How is that possible, you know? That you're going to and Louis carnase was there. Louis cornice is 98 years of age. And Pauly goes, God, I can't believe Louie Curtis seka. I said, what do you mean? He's got better hair than I do, and he's 98. That's very frustrating. First of all, I did not know he's still alive out of respect. 98 and he's got a perfect head of hair. He does very frustrating. Yeah. And I was fortunate to be able to cover the St. John's. They were the red men at the time, went Chris mullin, Mark Jackson. They had a wonderful team. And St. John's owned the garden back then. That's when you had Georgetown and Villanova, I mean, you had all of these Syracuse, all these great teams. When the big east was the best basketball conference ever. And to be around that St. John's team and Louis had the sweaters and then you had the rivalry with John Thompson. But it was great to see him at the press conference there with Rick Pitino. Yes, maybe it's just like really optimistic thinking, but you're saying like just locally. If you could get New York City kids to stay at St. John's, you could have one of the most entertaining basketball teams in the country to watch. Just in their own backyard, just the history of basketball in New York City, the style of play. Oh man, that could be awesome. They love their basketball. And the colleges in New York City. And they loved college basketball. Obviously, they love the Knicks. They're dying for a winner. And if Pitino can somehow get the back pages there, the tabloids, you bring a couple of players in, keep them home. That shouldn't be that difficult. I would be shocked if Pitino is not a great success at St. John's. I want Rick petito to get the tabloid pages in the good way. Oh, yeah, so make sure they're all on a pot. Big win over Georgetown. Yes. Yes. The WBC, the world baseball classic. People don't realize it's been around since 2006. But it changed this year because you had really good players who were deciding to play. Mike Trout decided to play. Now, the other countries, they want their players to play because this is their true World Series. And the atmosphere was wonderful. Now you had some people who did say, oh, I don't want our players out there. There's freak injuries there. Edwin Diaz got injured. I mean, that would never happen again. He got injured, celebrating, okay? Jose Altuve, that's a baseball injury. Broke his thumb. But I understand the concerns there. They're valid, but only with the Jose Altuve. Diaz, he's just jumping up and down. Last year, the World Series had an average of just over 12 million viewers per game. Japan's quarterfinal game against Italy totaled over 64 million. Shohei Ohtani, he gained over 2 million new social media followers since the start of the tournament. So this is a gold mine for Major League Baseball. Baseball has had an unbelievable start to the season and we haven't started the season. But WBC, they're going to, you know, we got to wait three more years. But you had the scenario that you wanted. It was United States against Japan, John smoltz, who was on the call last night, joined us yesterday, and he said this. I got this sneaky suspicion. That maybe late in the game, if team Japan is up, you may see Shohei Ohtani close it out. And would it be something? More than theater. That if shohei ohtani with two outs and a runner on is facing Mike Trout for the chance to win the WBC either way would be pretty incredible if it actually happened. That's John smoltz yesterday and this is how it sounded last night on Fox Sports one. Ohtani's ready. Trout's ready three two he's struck him out. He strikes out trout and Japan's back on top of the baseball world. Yeah, Japan is one in a couple of times previously and now all of a sudden, in case there was any argument, the most valuable baseball player around the world is Shohei Ohtani. The most famous is Shohei Ohtani. And he'd be famous if he was pitching. He threw a hundred, a 101 one O two, and then he came back with whatever filth that was. Look like a wiffle ball slider. And Mike Trout went down swinging. I was rooting for Mike Trout not because the United States, but because here's Mike Trout getting a moment. And we want great players to have those moments. You want them to be on a big stage. Well, guys who produce when Kurt Gibson, when he comes up there, you know, Willis Reed and the NBA Finals. Like that moment where you go, I want you to do well. Now they were injured and had a dramatic appearance, here is Mike Trout, we're waiting for these moments. And I wanted him to take ohtani deep. Just to tie the game and then whatever happened after that, but ohtani hit four 35 for the tournament. I mean, the numbers, let me give you what he did. So he had 23 plate appearances, ten hits, 8 RBIs, had a Homer. He walked ten times, his average was four 35, his OPS was 1.345, pitching stats to how to save struck out 11 and they batted one 52 against him. Styling the day started the day sky of the day this is the state of the day. Instead of the day brought to you by panini America, the official trading cards to the Dan Patrick show. Plus, I think it's good for the WBC that the United States lost. Because I go back to the Americas cup. We didn't even know about the America's cup. Until we lost the America's cut, like, oh my God, we lost to Australia. We got to get back, none of us have ever owned a boat. None of us sail, but damn it, Australia had the America's cup. And it says our name on it, and we want it back. You know, you go back to 1988 with the Olympics. The reason why we had the Dream Team is because 1988 did not bring home the gold medal. They had amateurs, John Thompson was the head coach. And then you

We're going to talk to Sonny vaquero in an hour from now. The new movie air, it's about the recruitment of Michael Jordan to Nike. Sonny vaccaro is one of the stars of the movie. He's played by Matt Damon, and I've known sunny for 40 years, and he knows where all the bodies are buried. He knows all the players, high school players, coaches. He was with Reebok, he was with Adidas. He was with Nike and Michael Jordan and his mom, the recruitment of them to Nike, and that's what the movie is all about. By the way, you don't have to be a big sports fan to like the movie, because some people have asked me that. It's not a basketball heavy movie. It's really about getting Michael Jordan and his mom on board to come to Nike. And the recruitment of that. And Sonny vaquero based his career on that, trying to get Mike to go to Oregon to go to Nike and they came up with the air Jordan shoe. And they did that over a weekend, Jordan came out. They signed and he changed that changed the sports world. It changed branding. It changed athletes endorsements of products. Because Mike got a percentage of every shoe that had his name on it. Normally you would get a fee like a $100,000. And they said, Mike wants two 75, I think. And he wants a Mercedes, and his mom, played by Viola Davis, who was wonderful in every scene she's in. She said, we'll do this, but we want a percentage of every shoe that has his name on it. And Phil knight, who is the CEO of Nike. I don't know what his official title is. He is Nike. But there's a scene where he goes, oh, look into this cost me a couple of $1 million. And that's a very end of the movie goes Michael Jordan makes $400 billion per year. On the air Jordan brand. But it's a well done movie. That wasn't the cliffhanger everybody was waiting on. That was it. I don't think so. Okay. I hope I didn't ruin it for anyway. So this works out for you. Michael Jordan is rich, spoiler alert. This program brought to you by PXG dot com. Or you can call 8 four four play PXG, schedule a fitting, I switched to PXG. I did that during the Super Bowl. I got a chance to go out for a fitting and I can't wait. Can't wait for spring to roll around, swing some PXG's and you'll agree nobody makes golf clubs the way they do. Period. Also, senator Bill Bradley, nicks Hall of Famer, Princeton grad. We'll talk about Princeton going to the sweet 16 and also the passing of Willis Reed, teammate of Bill Bradley's with the Knicks when they won a couple of world championships. So Bill Bradley will join us coming up a little bit later on in the program. Clippers, Paul George got injured last night, don't know the severity of that, but here we are, late March. And Paul George, they took him off the court, carried him off the court. And, you know, we talk about the clippers, but we don't really talk about the clippers in a bigger picture. It feels like people nationally are more interested than people locally with the Clippers. Because if you're a clippers fan,

They let trade Turner go and now it's what we got holes, hopefully Gavin Lux can fill part of that in the lineup. But that's kind of what the Dodgers are doing. It's a pause. Okay, maybe after this year, it's we're going all in. It's half a $1 billion on Shohei Ohtani for the next ten years. Ten years and 500 million, whatever it's going to be. But other teams are looking at it and say, yeah, we're not going to spend now.

Breaking Down the Post MLB All-Star Break Stats

"Let's go ahead and start with a look beyond the box score. Those post all-star break numbers still very very high. As of monday's show was a fifty to average street. Twenty four base. four twenty. Two slugging will now. We've added a couple more days of three more days of data to those numbers. Still the two fifty two average on base down a little bit at three twenty one. But slugging up to four thirty five so at three twenty weighted on base average since the all-star break here across the league and that big uptick in slugging percentage is what i'm really focused on here for. Today's show as we know. The strikeout rate is down the stretch outrageous down quite significantly since that spin rate. Crackdown to hold a with the foreign substances. And all of that so guys are putting a lot more balls in play but now not only guys putting more balls in play but we're also seeing better fortunes at high-velocity contact and also more carry average fly ball. Distance is up here in the second. Half from june third. The time that's the second memo was actually sent out. It was a first memo in spring training back in march then. The memo came out june. Third major league baseball said we're going to take this seriously. Then enforcement started on. June twenty-first but any about from june third in july eleventh average fly ball distance three hundred nineteen here in the second. Half three hundred twenty one feet could be something could be nothing could be factors is obviously very hot in the month of july as we know and also to. You talked about this a lot on monday. Show but it's something that's still very relevant here on thursday is that we've seen a lot of below average starting pitchers since the all-star break guys are hurt. We've had several doubleheaders all of that. But also just what i've talked about on the daily article and then also on the shows here in that you've got a lot pitchers that have pitched on seven eight nine ten eleven days rest shohei. Ohtani pitched effectively two weeks worth of rest. It's tough to be sharp in those

Give get my point break. Saddam earnestness cringe to. I don't know you report back to us skip. This is totally going back to the fight and the aftermath from saturday there are certainly no love. Lost between kabaeva and conor mcgregor guys. I want to catch up on the latest after mcgregor's emporia which we all watch could be upset when money and fame. Come these two things show who you are. And what does mcgregor done with him. No i don't believe he'll return to the top. Honor has good age thirty two but what happened with his mind legs. This guy is finished but he's good for promotion. Do you agree with the sentiment. City it basically and that's so true money doesn't money makes you more what you already are. If you jerk you become a bigger jerk. Yeah is that money just makes you more of what you already off. If you were not a good person and you get money you will become a worth person. Money and power corrupts people make more of what they already are if this what he is and for it takes a special type of person to have to invest sport to have that kind of resources in his bank account. You know what. I still have that same drive skin remember. He used to have to coach night by private everywhere goten. He used to have to stay in seedy motels if and when he could forward to gold vacation. Now as private jets and yachts nice five star hotels he's eating michelin meals. Does a whole different ballgame. Am i could be fair. His your mind because embiid sports. Your mind is everything i agree could be. I do not believe khanna will return to what he wants was because i do not see the evolution that it takes to remain a top fighter. All these fires that he folk was has embarked. Tell me the one thing that carter has gotten better at the octagon says twenty he fifteen one thing skilled and what it what. It could be a fight. Bill can do that scale. He's box office because he can convince you. The old ought to get you cargo. Knock-about carlos duarte do all that trash talking talking about the mayor. Why talked about what are you gonna do. We go put a hole in his head. He didn't care about the ring and people believing lean very convincing but three the last four or five. I've seen the man sitting on his book looking around like what happened. He got choked up and use the bath get pummeled again to remember that he was not standing on his feet when they stop this. He was sitting on his butt at the port. Gotten up from a board like ten tires in his face. Poor let him up so he could finish him off man to man to face feet two feet. I don't see him returning to what was good enough. I i mean if you're gonna put him in the top level fighters division. Nah i don't see how so first of all. Forgive me for this. but i'm gonna pronounce it hubby. We're supposed to but whatever it's okay. We americanized it to be played with a guy but they didn't have the k. In front of it with brad habib okay readily either one's fine but i'm gonna say how 'bout we're not offending he'll buffet either way either way. I have nothing but respect for this man because you can make a. He was the greatest ever and i assume he's retired. 'cause this is one guy when he says i've retired that you can take it to your bank again. Maybe money talks about retirement. But i don't think so he. He made a big case that when my father is gone and his father has gone that i don't find any right in. His mother does not want him. My mom ask to so all these words or gold to me. What he's saying in this is a deep thinking young man who who's making the case that you have made from jump which is money doesn't change you. it exposes. Yes okay. And he makes the case that what is he done. He punched an old guy and that was in a bar and twenty nine hundred. Because that's what he did. He punched the guy in the bar. I don't know how there's some suit pending somewhere about that. So i don't wanna be a hypocrite. Because i i bought into a lot of connor's provide high building up to the floyd event because it was mega it some of the most exciting times. I've we've had on this show. And i found connor very appealing. Because he was winning tra. I could accept all the prefight trash tadjiks because i just sort of it made me laugh instead of making me mad right and yet once he he made his whatever one hundred million that he made and i thought he was. Great against that's just me. Because i thought he stood toe to toe with him in exchange. He lasted ten rounds. And floyd is difficult. Because floyd floyd was still in shape and ready by took that fight very seriously okay. So now we get to habib he. He's saying that if the community is going to support this kind of person than this sport is going to go in a bad way. I think we just crossed the line especially on saturday night and i tweeted that immediately. I can't defend my connor anymore. Because obviously against pre habibie insulted his faith and his wife and his parents he went after everything go after and he nearly got killed. Because if there hadn't been a referee there stop it a. He didn't let him go. Obediently feels queasy. He would squeeze the life right out and then here we go again with poor. You and i had no idea that he had detonated such poor. Ya because i just sort of goes in one ear and out the other for the fight with the but he's insulting his wife and i didn't know if i would laugh at that but he didn't laugh at no. There was nothing funny about it to him so he was taking it out on conner so connor is defeating himself with prefight hype. Talk trash talk because he could no longer back it up ali. Listen what he did to. Joe frazier. manila fight. I thought it crossed. Maybe that's more your call than mine but it was racial insults joe frazier and it was so demeaning and so belittling did it made me cringe like mohammed. You're better than that right. Reach for that resort to that just fight right well. They fought man. They nearly killed each other deer and it went to the bitter end and ali rei throw in the towel and angelo. Dundee said no. I think he's not going to be able to come out. I think you've got to throw in the towel this through. So you've gotta stand up like you're in a walkout there and you're gonna win the vibe and he did and both of them went up in the hospital so my point is at least ali was still able to back it up. Connor not able to back it up. And then the most chilling point that habib made was that when you break a leg like that you're never going to be the same that you're kicking. He said i get it that his age is not bad yet he just turned lords today. Three thirty three. What is today to lose july eating thirty three tomorrow. Thirteen okay. So he's turns thirty three tomorrow wednesday and it's not too old but he just lost a whole..

"Oh and to he ended up there was like he had a ball and he didn't hit a grand, slam on the 02 town, but he was down at account at one point O and to it just ridiculous. I mean, the Padres went on to win the game 9. To 8 with a walk-off base, hit in the bottom of the night. They started down to nothing, then they 1928. And you're like, man, that's just an unbelievable fun story. There's just a lot of good stuff going on baseball. I saw the unfortunate Choice minutes ago, right before the All-Star break to really sad. Ronald Acuna Jr. Tore his ACL for the Braves that's unfortunate. But I look, I I can't cover baseball. It's like I talked about shohei ohtani today and how do you keep up? Because he's literally playing right now as I talk, man, I can't I just can't keep up with all that but I when I can I watch and and beige Gosh for all its problems, really does, it's a great sport. I I always say I struggle with Major League Baseball as a league like they have problems, they didn't really punish the Astros at all. Like I had a lot of Rob Manfred and and problems and things. I don't like of Major League Baseball. I do like adding a runner on second base in Extra Innings that I think has been phenomenal this year. But for all its shortcomings, it's still, you know, it's America's thing man, it's just a really cool sport, I grew up playing it. I think a lot of people in America, grew up playing it and I thought my goodness, I mean, again, for all the problems Major League Baseball has the sport of baseball itself. I'll, I'll watch literally baseball. I'll watch baseball in Japan and South Korea. I don't care. It's a wonderful Sport. And right now, really, I've been really into Major League Baseball and they've been delivering with really, really interesting fun stuff going on. I want to shift gears from Major League Baseball to the NFL. This is a story that I saw it and went, what like the audacity. Are you kidding me? So here's what happened. New England, Patriots, receiver. N'keal Harry Goss has formally requested a trade, as a former first-round pick. He was drafted, 32nd, overall in 2019 and unfortunately he's been a massive disappointment point in his career. He's just been so. So not what he needed to become. He was expected to become a number one receiver. In New England. It just hasn't happened. He 6 p.m. for twenty-three years old played in college at Arizona State, but has not at all delivered on what. I mean, his tape in college was good and he just hasn't worked out in New England..

"Thing. And I guess the story of the Home Run Derby is. I mean, the question is dead. Can anybody beat shohei ohtani? Like it would be a surprise. He's my favorite to win. It'd be a surprise if shohei ohtani did not win the homerun derby, but that's the intricate, that that's the draw. Let's see what happens. Be fine. By the way, the MLB All-Star game is on. Sorry. Well, that's a Tuesday. So Home Run Derby is on Monday, then on Tuesday, July 13th, the MLB All-Star Game happens. That's 7 p.m. eastern Time, 4 p.m. Pacific Time on ESPN. I recommend watching that too man. Major League Baseball has the best All-Star Game in South America, like the NBA Guys phone it in. There is no defense at all and the NFL, nobody really tries in the Pro Bowl because nobody wants to get hurt. But baseball, their All-Star game is interesting. It's competitive like, everybody plays and pictures by the way, only pitched, like one inning, so it's not everybody gets a shot. Everybody, you know, get in the game. And so you don't see like, a lot of people play for the whole game, but it's still the best in the world at baseball against the other guys that are the best in the world that baseball. And it's fun that match up the, the competitiveness, like I'll never forget the day, when was it 2006/2007? Cuz I think it was 2007, when Ichiro hit a inside the park homerun, take a weird bounce in, in San Francisco. The Giants ballpark getting AT&T park is what it's called. And I mean, I remember actually funny there's another Seattle connection there. Where what's his name? Ken? Griffey jr. I blank on names all the time. Ken Griffey jr. Was in right field, trying to feel the ball that Ichiro home. Like what, a weird, fun connection, and each others around, you know, inside the park homerun moments like that. I mean, this is real fun. Exciting competitive baseball, and it's the best guys in the world of what they do. And, you know, from from a baseball players mean they play, what? Like a hundred literally 162, regular-season games a year. What's one? More game? Like you can't give effort for two or three Innings when you play in the All-Star Game guys. Do think it's awesome..

Shohei Ohtani: Japan’s Babe Ruth

"We first met shohei ohtani. He was the most captivating player in baseball. Who had yet to take his first swing or for that matter. His first pit in a major league game a prodigious hitter an fearsome pitcher from japan otani is now making a run for. Mvp and the majors not since v has a sports. Seen anything like what this batting leadoff otani hit a home. Run on the first pitch of the game. Then he threw eight shutout innings striking out ten batters with the hundred mile. An hour fastball. That's a comic book character. Nobody does does that.

Laureano HR, Nifty Catch in Return, Streaking A’s Top Angels

"The athletics have a six game winning streak after Ramon Laureano homered and made a Homer robbing catch in his return from the injured list highlighting an eight four win over the angels Laureano had missed seventeen games with a strained right hip he timed his jump perfectly to reach over the fence and catch Justin Upton's fly ball in the fourth half inning before going deep manager Bob Melvin says Laureano didn't show any rust you've come back and you're off for a while and you know little uncertainty when you know you haven't had too many bad sin and then you go out there make a play like that you know Homer so I think he's he feels pretty comfortable that also singled twice in a six run sixth and finished three for four with an RBI Shohei Ohtani homered for the second straight day giving him nineteen on the season for the angels I'm Dave very

Sho Time: Angels' Shohei Ohtani Returns to Form

"We're talking about the angels and not Mike Trout Ouden. Gonzales covers baseball for ESPN. He was recently angels. Camp attract the recovery of two way superstar. Shohei Ohtani. Who's a big star might trout or Shohei Ohtani. I think Shohei is a bigger star. You should see just the media presence that follows him everywhere. They're like twenty Japanese reporters in spring training. Who are just like following him around everywhere. Unlike Mike. Trout doesn't have that people are interested like they're fascinated by this guy so you save time. He's back but he played last season. What do you mean when you say Otani is back? Shohei Otani is back to being the fullest version of himself. Couple years ago came early from Japan in his early twenties and he showed that a player can thrive the highest levels of the sport by being a very competent hitter. Sil- a lights out pitcher GONNA MISS DOT goes down nasty splitter straight down swing that last year spent the two thousand nine hundred nine season rehabbing from Tommy John Surgery while hitting in the lineup. Now starting around May of this season. We're going to see that two way sensation again. I don't think baseball has been excited about a player. A longtime. Why is there so much excitement around Shohei right now because we literally haven't seen this in a hundred years because it's new because maybe it gives us hope that we're gonNA continue to see this? From other athletes in the future. He was just scratching the surface of just how good he can be. And now we get a chance to see it for an entire year. That's incredibly exciting. Well we will get eventually just not at the start of the season right. Yeah so the angels are going to be very conservative with Shohei Ohtani. He had the Tommy John Surgery in October of two thousand eighteen. He had knee surgery in September of Twenty nineteen throughout April. He's GonNa serve as a designated hitter and because of the new rule that allows for two way players. He can go rehab on a minor league assignment as a pitcher in the meantime so he's going to be able to hit in their lineup. As a designated hitter you're probably bat cleanup or bat third behind Mike Trout. I'm going to say maybe four to five times a week and then at some point around the middle of May he's GonNa be a starting pitcher for them to the grand experiment will be back on basically. Yes this experiment. The wrong word. No I think experiment is still the right word because in so many ways the angels are sort of setting the blueprint for how something like this done. They have nothing else to go on except for maybe what he did in Japan which is completely different league. They don't travel across time zones in Japan. They don't play as many games. In Japan. Angels are doing this by themselves. He's going to start once a week. Not once every five games he is not going to hit either the day before he starts or the day after his starts and he's definitely not going to be in the line up on the day of his start so you're looking at twenty starts in the season maybe one hundred games in the lineup. Still a good amount but definitely going the conservative route there. Let's back up to win. Shohei I came to baseball two years ago. What were the expectations like for him? And why was he so special? Will those a lot of wonder about a guy attempting to do this? There was a lot of doubt definitely but a lot of the people scouted him in Japan. Came Away raving about this guy. His batting practices are the stuff of legend. He's incredibly fast. He might be just as fast as Mike Trout. And that's one thing that people don't talk about on the pitching side. The Guy Those one hundred miles an hour he throws a split finger. That's like one of the nastiest pitches that you'll ever see so you have a guy coming over here with that kind of talent and the fascinating thing about Shohei is. He shows up to spring training in two thousand eighteen. And he's awful. He can't get anybody out. Pitching seven runs in the inning. So not the day that. Otani was hoping for today here facing the rocky. Looks like a mess in the batter's box completely off balance chasing pitches. Here's the next delivery and that is a big swing and miss thereby and within like four to five weeks of him attempting to do this. You have scouts saying that he's not going to be able to hit in the major leagues. You have people saying that. He needs to start the season in the minors. You have people saying that the angels should completely scrap their plans of having him be a two way player and just let him try to develop as a pitcher. Because it's too hard to do it at this level and then all of a sudden the season starts and it's like a light switch goes off. Here's the next pitch and he lets well hidden and the right center.
