Right now, baseball is winning with 52% of the vote. I could see that. In second. Cam Newton had his pro day, or did he have a pro day yesterday? Did he participate in auburn's pro day? His younger brother, who was a quarterback in college, then became a wide receiver. He was there. Hoping to get drafted or signed by a team and cam was there, cam and age 33, quarterbacks are still playing. Cam hasn't played in a little while and I was wondering if he was doing that just to nudge people to say, I'm still here. And on a pro day you can look good, you know, roll left, throwback, right, you throw it 50 yards and people go, wow, we did that with Zach Wilson. But I don't know how healthy is. I'd like to know he didn't talk to reporters afterwards. And I was wondering, did we make this a pro day sort of a coming out party for Cam Newton? I don't know if he says, hey, he said before on record, I'm there aren't 32 quarterbacks better than me. No, there's probably more than 32 quarterbacks better than you. But was he there for, was he showcasing his talent? It felt like, hey, I'll go there. I'll help you out. I'll get more eyes on this. But I'm not there to showcase my talents. I don't need to. Yes, you can. Yeah, I mean, it feels like the auburn pro day wasn't getting a ton of attention before. He signed on. No, it wasn't. I don't know of any player where you go, wow, you seen the kid at auburn. But cam shows up and his younger brother was there catching passes. And cam didn't talk to any team. But you can't sign him. He can't be a backup quarterback. He's not a starting quarterback. He's famous. See, that's the thing. He's 33s famous, but he's not, you know, a great football player anymore. Even a very good football player anymore, and go back on what he did with the Patriots. He lost what all 5 of those starts there. And he just didn't look like cam. And that's part of the risk and the reward of playing the way he played. Because you take those hits and then you're not the same player. And then you can't play that way. And he's not a pocket quarterback. Yeah. Yeah, but I want storylines. I want Cam Newton on a roster. How about this? The NFL opens up a third roster spot for the quarterback. But it has to be someone that's interesting. Like Tebow has to go to down to Tampa or Cam Newton has to go to Carolina. But I can't have you. Jay cutler's on the bears again. I can't have you in uniform because if I have you in uniform, the camera is going to go, it's called the cam cam. And you're going to go right to cam, if there's an interception. And then you're going to go to T Bo if somebody throws an interception. Then you can have them in an emergency. Yes, more. But Tebow is going to be encouraging. Kim isn't. Cam's going to roll his eyes, chew his gum and just look right into the camera like, you see this, right? Yeah. And then in

"The single case of Shohei Ohtani. The argument there I think is very simple and actually really compelling. War makes positional adjustments, meaning if you play premium positions like shortstop like catcher like center field, the latter of which Aaron judges played this year. You get more defensive value because you played more important positions. If you are a DH, you get dinged hard for being a DH. And I get that. You don't bring any defensive value and you're taking up a roster spot because you are a bad only guy that could presumably be with someone who could provide defensive value. Well, what if you play DH because you're also going to be getting Cy Young award votes as a pitcher this year? Yeah, what if you're playing the ultimate defensive position? Pitcher. Yes. Yes. What if you're playing a position where you strike out a dozen dudes at 8? And also, by the way, DH on the same night. It feels like the DH penalty that exists in war for Shohei Ohtani is misused and inappropriate and that if you take that out, all of a sudden their wins butt replaced with totals are looking a lot more like than they do right now. So to you, the case for Shohei Ohtani is a case that can be evidence driven as opposed to a historical macro one. A 100%, I think if you're just trying to look at the more wondrous season, Shohei Ohtani wins 11 times out of ten. I just think and that is, by the way, that is not taking anything away from what Aaron judge is doing right now, it's embracing that Shohei Ohtani is doing something that never happens. And now it is time to embrace the moment, Jeff. You have your all important, but also clearly counterfeit MVP ballot in front of you. You have presented both sides of this argument. It is time to just get this formally on the record in full clarity. The American League most valuable player. Is who? I think there is every reason to vote for Shohei Ohtani. And that if one of the 30 voters out there does, I will not in any way begrudge him or her. But Aaron judge is the American League MVP Pablo. Wow. Wow. Damn. I've never done an episode of ESPN daily that felt like the 6th sense. You really thought I was going oh Tati? I was not necessarily ready to see all these dead people. Oh man, I keep going, but yeah, yes, I'm an idiot. Wow. Man, I hit the ball really well there, huh? You did. You said 11 out of ten times. That is, that is the point here. Shohei oh Tommy should win every year. But what Aaron judge has done this year transcends even the institutional greatness of Otani. I look at ohtani and what he's doing right now as being unparalleled in a macro sense, but in 2022 alone what Aaron judge has done is better than what Shohei Ohtani has done. Man. Jeff passon, I feel like some combination of, yeah, guy watching an M. Night Shyamalan movie. And also like, yeah, I guess Maury Povich, like congratulations, Aaron judge. You are the father. You are the MVP. Oh my God. And let me say this, by the way, I think this is an important addendum. I think judge is going to run away with it. And so just to recap here then at the very end, Jeff. Shohei Ohtani, congratulations on winning ESPN Daley's award for being Shohei Ohtani, I guess. But Aaron judge. Sir, congratulations on winning Jeff passons extraordinarily fake MVP vote. And Pablo, congratulations to you for having such a thoughtful podcast. Thank you, bro.

"A deserving member of that race again. So how is it even possible for the angels to have two of the top two MVP contenders in Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout and still be more than ten games under 500 on the season? Yeah, it's a hard thing to do and we find ourselves asking it every single year I think there are a lot of ways to answer that question. It could simply be that they've had a real lack of development from within, it could be that the Frazier contracts they've signed have been bad ones. This year, the fall guy for all this, I suppose, was Joe Maddon, who got fired at the tail end of a really rough losing streak in the start of June. And the manager being fired isn't going to fix everything and it hasn't fixed everything. Once looked like a pretty good race in the ALS has turned into another runaway for the Astros, and they didn't spend big on starting pitchers, which is something that the baseball world begs them to do every single off season. And again, they're starting pitching after a brief dalliance with greatness in April and early May is looking like the angels starting rotation that we've come to expect. So it's not to say they can't make it interesting whatsoever in the second half, but they've had so much go wrong so quickly here in June and July that it doesn't look like it's going to be a serious race once again. There was so much hope and then it just all crashed. We had those two months. It was something. Well, let's now go over to the national league. And let's start out in the west. Where once again, the Dodgers are dominating with the best record in the NL. What's been the formula so far this year for LA? Generally, it's just having the best players in the universe, like they have a lot of those guys. And it's a great recipe and they continue to develop new guys to sort of step into unoccupied roles now. Their best player so far this season has been Tony Gosling, who was relegated to kind of a swingman role, maybe 5th starter, and right now he's, I want to miss somebody, but he's probably the Cy Young FrontRunner. At this point for the national league, he has got a one 6 two ERA through 16 starts, 11 a no, if you're someone who likes to win loss record. And so they're figuring out a way to make it work without some of their better guys because you look at their lineup right now and maximum is still has a batting average that starts with one, which is a guy who before an elbow injury last year. He's a guy who could contend for the MVP. They're still trotting Cody Bellinger out there. He hasn't been really good. Justin Turner had a pretty rough first half all around. And so they are not clicking on all cylinders and yet they still sit where they sit currently almost 30 games. It's over 500. So they're in good shape, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do try to make some moves at the deadline just to short some things up. Craig Kimball hasn't been real good out of the bullpen. But a lot of their improvement in the second half probably will come from guys who are historically good becoming good again. So I don't know that they need to do that much of the trade deadline. They probably will though because it's when now every single year over there. Despite the great win loss record, as you mentioned, it's kind of been a turbulent first half for LA in some ways with the big names who have been struggling and some big names who have gotten injured, including walker Bueller and Chris Taylor. So taking all of that into account, where do you rank them as a contender? I still think they have to be top two top three. I mean, you can throw the Yankees in there, but if you're telling me straight up, I can have the Dodgers out of the national league or I can have the braves or the mets to say. I would take them every single time. They still have incredible talent. Freddie Freeman is great. He's a proven playoff player. Mookie betts is great. If it's a healthy Dodgers team, I'm counting on max Muncie Justin Turner to figure things out in the second half. I still think this is a team to beat, even though they are not the reigning champions, the braves hold that distinction. I still think this team can do things that no other team in the national league can do. And we'll completely give the Yankees a run for their money and are better in some areas too. And so if they do something big of the deadline, it'll only improve a team that should be great already. You know, I'm a mets fan, producer Matt sabre's fan. So you just threw out some fighting words, by the way. I come from a background as a tigers fan. I can't really fight right now. There's not a whole lot going on here. All right, well, the essential has been the weakest division in the national league in terms of wind totals for the top teams. But it also has the FrontRunner for MVP. So can you tell us about the season Paul Goldschmidt has been having for a second place St. Louis? Yeah, Goldschmidt, a guy who, I think many expected to be on the downswing of his career the last couple of years. But this year, what he's doing is he is managing to hit for average and for power. Goldschmidt hits it out to left and this will do it. And he does it in gray style. Goldie, the walk off Grand Slam. The great base letter and he's a great defender over at first base. So he's doing everything. He's got a three 40 batting average for 24 on base percentage lays all of baseball and Goldschmidt has led a team that doesn't have the depth of starting pitching that they would like or they're used to Adam Wainwright has been good, but the rest of the rotation at many times has been pretty shaky. And so you wonder if they're going to go add some help there. But if goldsmith continues to hit the way, he is heading now and if Arenado keeps things up where he is a great defender at third base and a really solid hitter. This team could go a long way and this is a team that surprised everybody by going on a huge run last September to get back into the playoff picture. Well, the team that Goldschmidt and the cardinals are chasing in the NL central is the Milwaukee Brewers who have the worst run differential of any division leader in a pretty narrow division lead over St. Louis. So what's the key for the brewers as they try to hold off the Cardinals? For the brewers, I think the key is going to continue to be where do you find offense from this is a team that kind of walked its way out of the playoffs last year because they couldn't hit the braves, right? They had an opportunity to take down the braves and couldn't get enough offense going and this is a rotation that is, if not the best in the game right up there, Corbin burns, Brandon Woodruff lead that. Locked him up with a curve ball. Ten strikeouts for Corbin burns. 7 scoreless. For the breweries. And they have a bullpen in Devin Williams and Josh hayter that you don't want to get to those guys in the 8th and 9th innings. Trying to save his 14th consecutive game. Two two to Riley. A swing on a miss. He struck him out. Ball game over. But they still have an offense that is probably full of guys who look at as more of a leak average type or a slightly above league average. They don't really have that big bad. They found some diamonds in the rough a little bit with Mike brasso with rowdy teles, William damas having another pretty solid year, but there is no star hitter on this team right now. You may have former star hitters, Christian Yelich and mccutcheon. So it's a team that can definitely scare you, could certainly stay in first place the rest of the way. But it's going to be on the back of their pitching. And I think they need to take strides to add to their lineup because it's not a lineup that scares anyone right now. All right, well, the last division left happens to be arguably the most intriguing division race, and that is the NL east. It's the mets and the braves who have the fourth and 5th best records in baseball as of this recording. They're in the middle of a big three game series right now, but even after this, they still have 12 head to head games left. Is there an X Factor for you Stephen and deciding this division and if so, what is it? I think the low hanging fruit might be the right one here. I think the mets starting rotation is probably The X Factor here. Both teams have lineups that taught to bottom pretty solid. They found different types of hitters. They've got some speed. They've got power certainly. But I think we know the mets rotation. We know how strong they are at full strength. Who are we going to have come October, right? Who are we going to have in September? And the rest of those 12 had to have meetings that you mentioned. At full strength, that met starting rotation is up there with the best in the game. And they have had some major injury problems with the gram of course, has not picked up a ball in major league mound yet this year. Scherzer is currently is coming back and he's capable of throwing a no hitter when he goes out there, right? But are they going to be there come the end of the season is a much bigger question for their hopes of taking the division from the braves who really stormed back at it was almost this time last year. It was the end of July when the braves really started to make their run, so that's where my X Factor is. If it's a full strength mets starting rotation, I think they're going to be in really good shape since they added Chris Bassett. They have cookie Carrasco, they have time on walker. Tyler McGill, if he's backed by then. So they're in really good shape, I think, if they

"Button top number four here with heavy. Mfn tmc all-star game tonight Pete alonso put on a clinic last night Boy is lower-half legg. Dr lose well. He looks like a slow pitch softball and everybody else playing baseball there. Yeah and just the calmness he a little dance before whatever it got him into his rhythm and he doesn't lack confidence when he said i'm the best power hitter in baseball and it was on display tonight back to back winners and he's built for well. He's built for hitting the ball of the ballpark. There's no question about it and he was phenomenal as we continue to discuss. There's you know with astros. And have they played the victim card and stephen a smith and his marketing comments about Shohei otani and the nigerian basketball team. And then i made it. Yesterday was one of those days. Chris russo just completely torching the yankees and their constant. And i can't remember. I have to go back and twitter. And if you're listening in you know who you are a. I'm sorry i'm not giving you credit for this. But i am giving you credit and i gotta go find it because of all the comments that i get on twitter from these from this stuff is he had mentioned about castaing about well. One wanted mentioned about the the reason why the marketing isn't if it isn't going to be good for otani or trout or harper because their teams are very good and they made a good point. I lost my train of thought. The of the otani things is simply you mentioned the team and then also right in the west coast. of course. that's exactly right but he still going to get marketed. Because he is a he's novel for star. It means from japan so he's a great player. He's handsome he's young. He's engaging he smiles. He even yesterday at bab exhausted even during batting practice. Everything about him says superstar regardless of what stephen. A smith said about the the interpreter. Now what i was going to say is about. And then now i'm getting into this about the yankees and victim who's played the bigger victim card than the yankees and dodgers over and a half. Honestly nobody about the cheating. Part is as anybody played. I'm not talking about family sometimes. A clubhouse early on you have to apologize and you get that out. There's there's been a lot of a lot of were the victims the dodgers and the yankees through this. So if we're gonna talk victims we there's there's a whole lot. There's a whole lot of layers to that one. So i can't remember who said it on twitter but thank you. You made a great point and you are one hundred percent correct. Let's guitar calls louis. Welcome in man. How're you doing. Good morning guys. Coming out technically. I'm like put together topic when you mentioned today. The first one is what the nation about things he only has just performed and he kept his mouth shut so he shouldn't even say that have thoughts even from season trying to. That's one second one. He's he's regarding. What what Autonomy to well thanks very like you said a bunch of nice things but you also very humble yet. So went to pumping he went to congratulate. Need smile so this guys. Any translators are very important. If we would have got what stephen they said. We wouldn't have had yao-ming chemo lodge. You'll bake. I can speak a good word or a good food sentence and are the what are the best. People are keen. Y'all i mean to be. Those guys are nice people so sweep really stupid and be just a little sample. i'm gonna try to. He's gonna see you when that to me when invented swimming because spanish. Us with a ride. Somebody in spanish. You say paula in mexico. I mean you mean you're fine decides that can't even fifty seven percent spanish trying to give a full interview innings okay. I'm gonna you guys go. And i'm quoting louis. Ck lewis what a great call. Well what a great call and appreciate it and you mentioned three names that i would say aside from great players and unfortunately for yao. The injuries great players. But i think we will four of them you actually mentioned altoona yao-ming kemalism on and shohei ohtani aside from all being wonderful players and phenomenal talents. And we we would've. If yao ming wouldn't have been wouldn't have been injured with his lower legs he'd been a continued dominant player. But you're exactly right. And i don't think we talk enough about good people in the sport down we'll always gonna go after the guys who were asked clowns who are not humble and you're mean constantly. I'm not talking about the guy who plays with an edge. I'm just talking about just kind of people whether it's an autograph we know. Who would those type guys all. Four those dudes find somebody as a human being and fans who say they don't treat them right. Find one find when you're right about gracious otani was smiling on. What did you ever negative about him. As a human aside from a great player. What about yao ming. You hear nothing but what a phenomenal human. Yes allies alon 'unbelievable. The way he treated always has even before any people that don't live in the town in the city of houston. No this i did before. I lived here and al to be. That's why i'm always baffled by the hatred for him. There can't be five better dudes in baseball than him. I felt like this before i moved. Here what's your the underdog story because he's shorter than most players and the historian how we got to the major leagues and then how he's thrived in the league and he case the cheating things aside but he did. I mean. I understand as a team but it was documented buys players that he was one who didn't want to be a part of it but if we're judging people by one thing that happened to a team shame on us because then we're all judged like that from one mistake we may have made as a human. I can't think of five more gracious credit to his teammates. Better people than altoona in the league and that goes for all four of those guys louis. Great call man. And i'm so glad you pointed that out. We don't harp enough on the dude who isn't isn't a click bait type of clown show athlete. That drives us crazy but we gotta watch him. We don't say enough about the guy who sits back and does his job treats people with kindness and respect. I'll take those guys any frigging day of the week. Let's get to mark welcome in a highly good morning. You're going. I know i gotta make a quick Yeah i just wanted to say. Yesterday i read an article Somebody wanted some reporter of one of the speeches from the as bassett What he thought about the astros and they're cheating scandal and he said one thing he said. I know they're not the only ones cheating in baseball. And that's coming from one of my rivals. Main right he put it out there. And and and teammate of fires and also use i used to.

"Going to revolutionize the anomaly scale with not. Because i think the thing is get the the the the team will force you to choose. If you're going to be a pinch you gotta hundred mile fastball. You're gonna pay it. You're not going to be hitting a stimulating store goes dancing. You went out position player than you have to come to the bat. Know come to the plate and hit or interview graded hitting and batting and play play. Play position you're going to have to probably gonna have to choose. But i think he was a unique situation and i think him being far blair. He said the only way. I'm coming that you'll allow me to do both. And so they were caught between a rock and a hard place because somebody. If the angels didn't do it someone else was going to allow him to do it. And he's shown because you know you you pitch every field day and he's a d. h. So you basically every day you know. How much would that zappin. And so. But i don't think you're gonna see all of a sudden these guys popping up wanting to be shohei. Otani is unbelievable. Skip the mere fact like he's about the mere fact that we're missing him and babe ruth kill you just. How special does your mania. He has power freakish that we have seen the longtime your job out for a japanese more player. He's already the single season leader and we're at the midway point. Yeah dickey lewis record. I face a thirty one thirty and he's already at thirty three bucks give. I think this was an anomaly. I don't think we're gonna see uprising. Up sprayed guys saying you know what i want bat and i wanna pitch in the major leagues. I don't believe that's going to happen. Okay i believe it should not be under an anomaly. Did you play high school based remember. Okay so i did. I was pretty good. I made all area after my senior year. But what i always saw in my years in high school baseball was the pitchers we faced were often the best hitters that we have to get out because they were the best athletes on the field. They chose to throw because they had the best arm but they also had many times the most power so. That's not an anomaly. And then when i went to vanderbilt we won the sec. All four years. I was there but our archrivals university of tennessee in the best hitter in the sec does for years was a kid. named rick. Honeycutt was also one of the best pitchers so he goes on to the big leagues and makes two all star teams and his the are champ in one thousand nine hundred eighty three because he could really pitch as and dodgers and rangers for a year but he became the dodgers pitching coach for many years up through twenty nineteen. My point is he. He could have done this but he wasn't a what you call a power hitter. Man he could hit for average. He was the sec batting champ. My senior year so my point is when you get to the big leagues are are thinking so prehistoric. They just say you have to choose wrote in japan at eighteen. He decided to play pro baseball in japan for a few years ago right away they're more open minded and they're like okay. We don't have these conventional wisdom that we dug in on it and they said sure because because he's a big he's almost six four and has natural gifted power and he can throw one hundred miles an hour. Why not but they think no. You're going to shortchange yourself one way or the other. What happened to babe ruth. He was great for the boston. Red sox and then when he got traded the yankees. They're like you got to stop. This is the best pitcher in baseball right. And then he became the best hitter of all time through that point right because the yankees said no our box office says we need you to hit the ball out of the park. Which is what he did. I'm just hoping the floodgates reopened for a lot of kids out there who at the high school level are dominating as hitters and pitchers. And i don't know why they can't keep on keep getting if you think about think about football. The best athletes used to play office agreeable a quarterback or there was something they were. They got to you what it'd be able to choose among defense beyond with dr. Dr could play. Both what is like what we really need you. The other side of the we'll give you a few reverses you passes. But i i think that's going to be the cake. You look at tampa. They don't let the pitcher go pants things. A lot of it used to be pitches. Two hundred fifty hundred and sixty pitches and a specialist. I agree right guy. Okay you got coming. From the seventy got closer we gary cole- two hundred twenty pitch a complete game to be commonplace. Yep okay so can't wait until tonight. Because i get to watch this young man pitch and leadoff not allow probably just watch them all over really rupert last night to pete alonso was great to watch so tonight game seven pm eastern on fox and when you watch shohei ohtani. He's just playing with this joy. You can't look away because he's making it look easy. We know it's not thirty. Three home runs. I just can't get enough of him. I cannot get enough of what he's doing. And i cannot wait on display on fox tonight. We're going to get to the cowboys. Now we're gonna see them plenty on fox this season as well but heading into his second year with the cowboys. Mike mccarthy will be eager to put a six and ten season in his rear view mirror dak prescott back under center which will take some added pressure away as bill appear on hard knocks. This will be dallas's third appearance on the hit. Show that former cowboys coach. Dave campo thinks the show is invasive though and in unnecessary hurdle for mccarthy as he looks to right. This shit shannon do agree with campo here. No there's just no excuse for why they are not going to be good to have nothing to do with this. It's not gonna i. It's hard for me to imagine that because their cameras there everyday feeling everything anyway. But all of a sudden it affects your block in tackling throwing your catching. That's not gonna have anything to hard. Not so it's not going to be the reason. The cowboys finished eight nine or nine eight. That won't be the reason and don't make excuses. I understand but you have to understand. Skipped jerry always put this in front of winning. Jerry always wanted more less than lombardi trophies. I a problem with it. I just see from what is so. I'm not here to make no excuses about well. If they don't be vista the happen is because of hard knocks. No twelve to the past have heart ducks team. That approved either improved or equal to win total from the previous year. Sixteenth made the playoffs. We didn't want the bengals the nine and thirteen jazz in two thousand ten to fifteen to twenty twenty rail so it can't be the play off being a.

"Start with pobably. I you know. The human highlight reel the last couple of weeks in. It's been shohei ohtani forward to him on the mound looking forward dame at the plate. There's so much excitement surrounding what he's brought to the game. So far. How how excited are you to see him on this big stage tonight jen. I must say even people who've done the longtime like me. This guy is electrifying to all of us. And it's because we haven't seen this before even babe ruth you only did it one year really at this level so shohei otani of course this is his first year doing it like this but just the way he is going about different sport than it was. When the baby played international players black players players that didn't exist in baseball back then so see his immense skill and the ability the strength to carry out both at such a high level persist sustained period. It's trying to draw dropping to say the least and tonight is the leading apex of this. He's going to start the game on the mound and he's going to be the leadoff hitter as well for the american league. So i gotta be honest with you man. It wasn't until the pandemic where i watched that documentary on him where they tracked him back in japan and his you know his journey to the bigs and i that was the first timer understood how rear he was and how rear what he has been doing is is. He changing the approach to baseball. When you look at a pitcher that can also bet brennan. That's a really good question and when you're asking you will there be other otani and i'm not sure. The answer is yes because of his unique skill set but we have seen guys even now in the sport that can cajun hit two of them. Actually were all stars. Jared wash from the angels was a pitcher j krona worth for the padres but the difference is that one of their skills surged ahead of the other cases the offensive skills and at that point their team said okay. Stick to that with otani. The key here is he is able to do both at a high level. And no one's saying. I'd rather see impeach or i'd rather see him hit. He is actually better doing both. I talked to their hitting coach. Jeremy reed. He said the fact that he has to go through such a detailed routine each day just to get through the day to prepare for both it. Kind of keeps him focused in a way that when he's just doing one he gets almost obsessive. And he's better off kind of multitasking. Can i understand in deservedly. So shohei is thus far the story of the season and he could end up being the face of the league moving forward but a guy who might be to me just as exciting but in a different way is i. Don t is the most electrifying guy in the sport. Right next to otani. Do you think and do people around baseball todd. Tease has best player in the world upside absolutely. And you're right. It's not just a tiny in this sport right now. There are host of young players who are electrifying. unfortunately one of them ronald kuni. Junior suffered a season ending injury saturday night so he won't be here but this guy the guy we're watching right now. What he can do physically is unlike pretty much. Anybody i've ever seen and contorted his body. He can make throws like that. It can do all kinds of things on a baseball field right now. Twenty eight home runs twenty stolen bases and keep in mind. He's missed nineteen games. This could be the first player in history not necessarily this year but down the line with fifty home runs and fifty stolen base season that speaks to his ability. He's gotta stay healthy. He has to clean it up. A little bit defensively. At shortstop he was really good last year. Not so good this year but my goodness he is electric. And he's another guy like otani when he's on the field. You cannot take your eyes off him. Jay z gonna have to open up new club. Fifty fifty club tattoos there. Aaron judge batting fourth at the same time it feels like the yankees have sort of like drifted and behind the the story lines. Like hey remember the yankees old powerhouse. They're in third place. Now how do you see the yankees bouncing back in the second half of the year. I don't know if they do kevin. And they're a team. That right now has deficiencies all over the place. We've talked a lot in baseball about their offense insufficiencies. Just they're overly right. Handed lineup their athletic. The way they once were they are a team. That just is flawed. In that respect it's roster construction. Two they also have questions and their starting rotation. It's gary cole and a bunch of guys who in the second half. We're not sure how they're going to perform aroldis. Chapman in the closers will has struggled so up and down. There are problems on that roster. They have eight games with the red sox coming up pretty much right after the break for an four a little bit later those are going to be quite telling for them and to see what they do at the trade deadline right now. It seems every time they think. Step forward in a big step forward saturday with garrett cole master performance then they take a step backward with the game on sunday so it's difficult to see them right now being a playoff team it can change. But i'm not feeling it. I'm with you can remember you. And i we go way back when i used to stand on the stadium and we'd be able to write the right the game before it even started win and then we could go home. It was like a no brainer now. I can't even get regain. Trust me out The player who gets me so excited was gotten me so excited. Nick loves tattoos. Brendan's been on shohei checkup the groundsman really fun to watch. What are people saying about the first half. he said it's historic. There's no question about it and except for a couple of physical hiccups. It has been one of the most brilliant first half so he's ever seen from a starting pitcher and he also has a guy that has seemingly immune to this foreign substance issue. It seems that he wasn't using them one of the few. So here's a guy dominating in a level we haven't seen since bob gibson in one thousand nine hundred sixty eight. There has been talk. He could get his era under one for the season. That's unheard of in the sport in this era so yes he's been absolutely dominant. The only question is health. We all want to see him healthy. At times this season it has looked like men against boys with him on the mound and that is in this sport. Play other sport. These are the best players in the world and for one guy to be that dominant. It's just stunning. Can we stay on the ground for a moment. Because i see the numbers and i understand. He's got three pitches. He pitches them all at a nine and a half out of ten or higher. I get that but the numbers are so out of whack. Compared to apex. Pedro apex matic's apex. Or what why is he this good. I know that sounds dumb but like he shouldn't. Nobody should be this much. Statistically better than some of the best seasons we've seen recently.

"Eda's for mentioned this week. It's momo in ireland ramona shelburne. Nice enough to sit in for me. I'm gonna growl again. Why not and close. The three o'clock growl and remote. I mentioned i was at a party over the weekend. And the host of this party bought the ufc fight and thank you for supporting our company. Appreciate that so yeah on espn plus so say it again on espn plus wherever you can find those streaming services. Thank you sad. How's that the okay. So the whole under cards. Greg hardy the former teahouse cub. We got knocked out like ten seconds in. But and i'm irish. So i've always kind of rooted for conor mcgregor. Great showman yeah is but order to be a showman to to to run your mouth like he runs his mouth. You have to be able to back it up in the ring. And this was very evident from the beginning that daniel poi- was gonna kick his but he ended up breaking his ankle and looked horrible to that was really hard to watch but i never thought connor was at one point. Connor had him in a headlock. I thought maybe he could choke them out. No i mean. I don't i never got the feeling it was worried. Should these fought three times now and as soon as fighting. He needs stop. That's what but he's not a legitimate fighter anymore. I mean he's still good but to be to fight it this class and this level like one. I don't want to see somebody get hurt like that. That look really painful. And he. he's shown he can. He can take a punch but conor mcgregor in his prime. So i was in new york when he won at the first. Ufc fight that was in madison square garden. I think it was. You've see to twenty s. You lose what count it was. He was such an amazing showman and he won. It was just a great fight to like when he would win. It was the little like ronda. Rousey like she used to win fifteen seconds. She was awesome And connor would come out and he would you know he was just pinpoint in his marksmanship. Right like you would just he. His striking was just like he'd be dancing around that all of a sudden he would see a little opening in poon. Getting right in fa-. I mean he was just fantastic to watch and he could talk as much as you wanted because he would win. But you know he's he's kinda done with that like. I don't think you have a very long shelf life in the ufc usually It's a really hard sport. The the four inch clubs like man. People get really messed up. You get messed up longtime if yeah and i got the impression he couldn't fight back in certain points and like the broken ankle was like hard to watch like you know he did the fight with floyd and he's done some exhibition e kind of things. He's made a lot of money he doesn't need to keep doing this. And and i would say this like somebody who chronicled. Ronda rousey ends end of her career. Pretty free closely I don't know if you how about you follow her now. She's off raising cattle and stuff on browse acres. Right like they're they're having their he's about to. She's she's very pregnant right now very pregnant with her first child and good for her man. She always used to say like when i'm done i'm done. I'm get out i'm going to go live on a chicken ranch and you know do farmer things. And that's what she's doing like she's happy. She's about to have a kid she's doing that. She's still kind of online a little bit with these youtube videos. But i would watch her and she had so many injuries like she she. Her knees were basically bone on bone. she got knocked out on the ring. Yeah and then. She went and did wrestling. And you know what's what about wrestling. She can come back and be a wrestler. She totally not get hurt doing that. Maybe a little bit but you know at some point you kind of say how. How long do you want to get punched in the face like that money. He doesn't fight anymore all right. So the major league baseball homerun derby is tonight. This really is a forty eight hour. Coronation of shohei ohtani as the biggest attraction the game otani place in the angels has been unbelievable. He leads the major leagues in home runs. They are going to basically use the all star game tomorrow night to show him off tonight. As the number one seed in the homerun derby this is in coors field in colorado. The last time the all star game was of course field mason. And i went to it. And you're the hairston their balls out of the park. He's probably gonna put on a big show tonight and even if he doesn't people be anxious to trevor story. By the way. I think trevor story is gonna win. Because he's the hometown guy he's the he's the colorado rockies guys in homerun derby right. Well there's a bunch of of like kind of cool stories that are that are gray. Mancini will is my favorite one. Yeah trey man. Seaney almost died last year. He basically was he was playing for the orioles and his he wasn't feeling great and he had his blood tested in his iron was really low and they tested him again and it was even lower and they'd be determined to a series of tests that he had a colon cancer stage. Three two wasn't right and he basically had to go through. Full chemo radiation. All of it. And he worked his way back. He missed all of last season. And this season he's been tearing the cover up the ball and tonight as in the homerun derby. So here's who's in it. Shohei ohtani joey. Gallo last year's winner pete alonzo trevor. Story juan soto matt olsen from the as trae mancini in salvador perez from the from the royals in otani will be the the main reason people tune in. You can listen to it on our sister station. Amil evan ten you can watch it on. Espn and then tomorrow night. We got the game. Otani is gonna hit leadoff and start as the starting pitcher for the american league and because he is the biggest drawn the game. He's being talked about all over on a lot of the debate. Shows in the morning and This morning stephen. Smith said something that has gotten him in a little hot water. I gave this kind of disclaimer earlier but for people. Who don't know. I've done stephen for twenty years. We did a radio show at another network together. I really like them. So i'm a little biased at this but i understand why people are upset with him. Here's what stephen said about otani this morning on. I take crab tool.

"I think dow right now you you didn't because well because you lead with saying shohei otani is doing we haven't seen since babe ruth gate so we can like what he's doing his little league stuff to us one continuous. Doug do you think he's going to be a hitter pitchers entire career. Yes you know you don't. There's no way. Because i just don't think at some point you don't wanna risk this guy having some sort of arm injury. He's already had an arm injury a couple of times but he had an injury. You might say this guy needs to be a hitter. Babe ruth did it for five years with the red sox and then he decided disguise too good of a hitter not to have them in the lineup. Every day to play for you and that's what's going to happen all tiny so while it's a it's a nice circus act now and people are marveled at it. It's not something that i believe can be sustained. Okay but we're not arguing whether or not how long you sustain it okay. What the point is what he's doing. We haven't seen since babe ruth in in a league. Where like if we took out the steroid. We took out the steroid era right now. He's on he's right on pace for barris which which we haven't frankly seen since. They took steroids out of baseball. So he's his. Opie is one point five four at three point five war like dudes stud hitting the baseball and he's maybe not a top ten pitcher but in the top twenty top twenty five like that's a little league stuff dominated the third man in your rotation. Let's just be honest. i mean. I'm not coming out. Tommy john surgery. I'm not getting on the ripple at all so i don't want it to come off like what you're saying. The okay i think he has the stuff to potentially get back to being an ace. But you're trying to monitor the factories coming off. Tommy john surgery. He was throwing like an ace. They lost some velocity. But the point is did you see that she's a shoulder come out of his come off his body this year. You mentioned you mentioned babe ruth and then you like well then then ty cobb and what he's doing to start the season and ted williams no one saying for not is not an incredible player and he's not he's not starting his career at a level which we haven't seen the longtime nor do we think suddenly he's gonna fade away like he steals basis he hits for average he hits for power. He has panache. She has like all that stuff is great. Shohei ohtani does basically the same thing only. He's starting pitcher in major league baseball on a damn good one so i don't really see the your again. This is one of those. It's not a terrible argument. Except for the fact that i don't think anybody in the sport would actually make the argument except for me. I think i shot down shutting me down with your argument. That's i think that if you were really if you pull most general managers they would take tat tease. I really believe that shohei is what he's doing is not sustainable. So long term is what he is. What he's doing is a hitter. Sustainable just that is. But they still doesn't make him a better hitter than than tat. Tattoos says twenty seven home runs and has been injured twice. This year has been out of the lot of twenty seven home runs. Okay so my point is he's having a better year. Despite not leading the league in home runs and otani has four home..

"That will keep me from doing that. Yeah i mean this is. Jaws would've used the scene if they had thought of it or if parasailing was a thing where were still making joe's movies one hundred percent and finally got to talk about shohei. He is on a tear. He on tuesday night in yankee stadium. He hit two home. Runs to take the major league lead in home runs. We've been talking about this dude From like basically day one of this major league baseball season. I don't give a shit about major league baseball knowledgeably but this is incredible and for people who don't care he's also pitching while he's doing this And the baby's face with a baby's face body. Paul revere paul bunyan's body to he's pitching at a to fifty eight earned run average and is just crushing home runs. It's unbelievable yes. Slugging percentage of one point zero four nine. Which is like he. He's over one. It's rare that anybody just even simply right if you if you see that. If he's playing just watch him that bad because there's a good chance he's going to crush the fucking ball and then if he's then you can watch impeach real. It's just yeah. There's there's a like a new york times article that said is there such thing as too much shohei otani and i don't think there is because we're talking about. This is the thing that i think we've talked about too. Is i love when we get these like. There's an athlete out there who's just fucking it up so hard core that everyone's like i don't know man. Everyone watched this until this person showed up. And we're something very historic and even like aaron boone on the yankees like What he's doing is he say. Quote borderline impossible. Yeah that's what makes this so fucking special. And i think he's just i feel like if you if you just watch baseball very passively. You're like yeah good pitchers you know there they can. They can do that. And if you're good at bat you can do that. But the combination is just makes this shit so freaky. Yeah hasn't been done in one hundred years. I'm just gonna read this list of his last two weeks. So june fifteenth homerun june sixteenth. Home run june seventeenth. Five strike through five strikeouts. Six innings pitched one earned run june eighteenth. Two home runs. June nineteenth homerun twentieth homerun twenty-first. They were off okay twenty-second. He had a bad day. Zero went over three twenty third one earned run nine strikeouts twenty-fourth off again like he should still hit a home run. Even though they were off twenty fifth homerun twenty six went one. For three twenty seven homerun twenty eighth homerun twenty-ninth two home runs. Yeah like what did he has ever been in his own like this. That as long as i've been passively paying attention to baseball so it's pretty dope. People aren't like pitching strikes to them. They're just like afraid of him and he's still doing his finding he's finding so he's got twenty eight. What's the pace to to fuck it up home in for a single season. I don't know. I don't i actually don't know what what his paces. Yeah i wish. I not his paces a lot. I don't think. I think if he was on pace for like over sixty people write ups but like just being on pace to lead the league in home runs well also. Pitching extremely effectively is unbelievable. He's right now. People say the odds on favorite to be the mvp and this kind of came out of nowhere like he wasn't supposed to even be the best player on his team this season. Yeah i mean yeah when you're doing things mike. Trout can't do. Then that. That's something. But i mean i think the hope was always that this was possible like when he came to to the. Us was that he's a two way player and in japan he was proving it but everyone again is always like well. Let's see what he can do in the majors and you know what japanese people not to play baseball. So don't think major league baseball is the only place where you get it done. Okay all right.
