"KFI K A. Dark billowing smoke blanketing much of northern Colorado as ash rained down yesterday after winds drove explosive growth of that cameron peak fire. Now, the largest wildfire in Colorado history growing more than twenty thousand acres. Since Tuesday, it is now listed at one hundred, Fifty, eight, thousand, three, hundred acres with fifty six percent containment. Now, this is according to a facebook update last night working for peace by miles blunt hearts Kelly lyle out of the Fort Collins Colorado in this morning, it was shocking wasn't it? I was actually driving. To and fro up to Fort Collins and returning. Around ten thirty or so, and I like so many others pulled off the road got out of our cars. Of course, we were safely up the road I mean we're not stopping traffic or anything like that but it was like we were shellshocked. Did you feel that way yesterday as it was just that? Fix billowing. Cameron fire and it was that dark smoke which meant, yes, structures were impacted. Said there were indeed structures lost on Wednesday, but it could take some time before a full assessment is made but there were wins reaching well into the seventy mile per hour range overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Causing a big run on that fire and nine new evacuation orders within twenty four hours. But back to the structures that were lost these aren't the ones that we can get to quickly said Sheriff Smith because they're in a very active fire. Looking days ahead before we're going to be able to get folks back in there now while lower temperatures are expected in the coming days, well, it's still expected to be very active fire conditions. Things will calm down a little, but we're expecting almost if not as much activity Thursday into Friday, we're not through this wave of activity yet this according to incident commander. Damn Dallas expect a couple more days of very hard days while it was a destructive day saw smoke pouring over the front range where's the smoke ASA Denver News outlet the Smith one that well, it could have been so much worse adding it was a bad day but I. The Auto Collision Specialists Studios worked firm piece by Hindi in the Denver. Post Denver Police chief, Paul Payson linked arms with protesters, many of them black Monday evening walk past the city county building, as demonstrators began the fifth day of protests over the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers in Minneapolis achieved police, officers, and other cities have. Have mingled with protesters, including holding signs and kneeling, but this was pays its first time meeting face to face with demonstrators, the images of the chief and his regular uniform, and wearing a cloth masks to protect him from the corona virus provided a contact trask to images of Denver police officers in riot gear, firing tear-gas at people during a previous protests. That's an interesting statement, and is it a political statement that should perhaps not be in an unbiased reporting of events, because unfortunately it seems to be a rather dunning assessment of what police are having to do in order to maintain some semblance, some semblance of order as protests spiral out of control throughout the country. Seventeen year old Ashir Campbell said that as she watched with Faizan. She told him I'm tired. Chief. She went on to say this needs to go out to all police departments. Justice needs to be served to all lives right now. Black people are targeted. Enough is enough. Now as on previous days months, Monday's demonstrations began peacefully with people assembling outside of the Colorado Capitol for eight minutes and forty five seconds. This is the amount of time. Minneapolis police officer Derek Shaaban held his knee on the back of Floyd's neck. Hundreds knelt in silence on the State House lawn, but Tension continued to increase, says night fell and the curfew approach to mayor Michael Hancock extended a curfew imposed on Saturday, but change the time to nine PM nightly through Friday and just as the clock struck nine, an estimated one thousand protesters marched along Welton Street we want justice and blank. You're curfew, but police were not obviously visible on Sunday police held off until more than an hour after the curfew past. More than two hours after the curfew pass several hundred people continue to March, pausing to lie face down in the street with hands behind their backs and occasional firework would burst overhead, and a recording aired over a loudspeaker. Warn people against violating curfew, and still the police stayed away doing their best to de. Escalate the situation finally. Around Midnight Denver, police fired, tear gas at the remaining protestors, setting them scurrying through the streets, most appeared to be headed home. Now protests over Floyd's death began Thursday, nights in Denver brought days of unrest, as thousands chanted and marched over the deaths of black people at the hands of law enforcement. The demonstrations have also erupted into violence with police officers, firing tear-gas and foam bullets at protesters as people vandalized I. Love I love the sentence structure here. They disintegrated into violence as police are reacted reacting to the violent acts of the protesters. It seems to me that well. That's a little cart before the horse. They're showing a very distinct political viewpoint and perspective, because it appears as though police across the country are trying doing their utmost once again to protect property to stop looting to stop the violence and police coming under siege as well. Think about this for Saint. Louis Police officers were shot. At George Floyd protests, you had another officer shot in Las. Vegas sergeant was run over by a speeding SUV in the bronx I mean. It's spiraling out of control and I understand the outrage and certainly appreciate the peaceful protests relative. To the situation that led to the death of George Floyd, but once again, why are we stereotyping law enforcement, who is simply trying to maintain some semblance of public order as these protests continue to escalate around the country and along those lines. We're going to check in this morning at seven. Oh, five with. Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith and get his take on this entire situation. Well, it seems in some ways and I don't think that. I'm going overboard with this assessment, but check me on it if you will, it seems that law and order in this.

"Live from the mile high city and throughout Colorado. Do you have a might go ahead? It is my honor to introduce to you. This is the Dan Caplis show. His chore Brookler filling in for the mighty tall. Dan, Catholics who is out doing some great family activities today, I was honored to be asked to come fill in for him. We spent the four o'clock hour of filled talking with Lerma county sheriff Justin Smith about a whole host of quote, unquote, criminal reform measures that blew right out of the state Capital, One month ago today. And they're about to start taking effect now that the governor has signed them. We'll talk about that we've also played sound from our former governor are ex-governor, whatever he is John Hickenlooper current presidential candidate as he was jeered and booed mercilessly brew period of time in California at the Democrats state convention for having the outrageous goal to suggest that socialism isn't the answer to what ails America and we're going to take your calls on all of that stuff at. Eight five five four zero five eight to five five before we start getting into our next topic, a local topic that has some national flavor to it about boycotts related to Planned Parenthood and whatnot eight five five four zero five eight to five five. First thing we're going to do, though. And thank you for holding on Jack from Kersey on the dancaplislaw, George Crocker. How are you? Hi, george. Would you wanna talk? Well, I knew illegal immigration now, we have federal law about about immigration. Don't we, we? Sure, do ok. Well my question to you is probably one. I've asked you before. It's a pretty simple question. It better not be mad. No, I don't do math either. Fficials and governors. Oh, dude. I just lost you. You just said that, right? He you dropped off right in between. Do they? And then they re writer ignore federal law. Not too great question what they can't do in my opinion. It's to try to four federal law. The issue is are they legally compelled to follow federal law? But let me give you where the breakdown is here. Look, I'm a rule of law guy. I hope you're a rule of law guy as well. And that's the idea that if we don't like a law, our way to address. It is to either amend it or we can enforce it or we get rid of it. But there is no fourth option of, let's just ignore or try to thwart it. And here's where you can see that, that rule of law thing that you and I subscribe to is not embraced by the other political side. We have a ObamaCare. We have the Affordable Care Act. That is the law of the land. It was passed by both houses of congress. It was signed by the president. It was ratified and approved by the supreme court of the United States. I still don't like it. I don't think it was good. I think it's bad policy, but it is good law. And so the question is can we do stuff here, or even at the federal level, to try to undermine that federal law? And I think the. Answer is no. So what we have to hold on. We have our state attorney general who's filed a lawsuit to say, Dr new federal government, for not enforcing the affordable character for doing things to undermine. I I understand. I'm not sure I support the lawsuit for everything that happens out of the White House, but whatever. But when it comes to immigration, you don't ever hear them say, let's sue the federal government for not enforcing immigration. And instead, we have a state government that says, let's pass laws that make it harder and harder to enforce that. And that's what you were talking about. Go ahead. Jack. Suggestion go down to the tenth circuit court house, since it's a federal law. It is okay. Okay. You're, you're, you're admitted that, right. I am admitted to the US district court. I don't think I'm in the tenth circuit court of appeals. That's a smart building. Okay. Well, okay. Well, then just get on to get on the regular let me and I just can't really talk if the request rid of man, Damus, enforce our governor to, to, to enforce the, and then if he doesn't hold him in contempt to court. I mean, that's kind of the way it's supposed to work, isn't it? Well, no. Because what I don't want to see is the federal government dictating to states what laws to enforce. I don't like that at all. And you know how they get us to do. Typically is they fund things that they wanna see certain outcomes, and they'll have this infection thing with money where they'll say, if you take one federal dollar, you know, have to do it our way that sucks. I don't like that model at all. So no, I don't want the federal government, coming in here and telling us that we have to enforce federal law. But this is different. We have now passed state laws that actually resist and try to thwart the enforcement of federal law in way that they have never done with. Any other federal law that I'm aware of, well, what's new Georges? All you do is use the word sanctuary, and all of a sudden you, can you can step around federal law. So I live in Jefferson County, so I'm gonna say Jefferson County, it's a federal tax sanctuary, therefore nobody in Jefferson County has to pay federal taxes anymore. How is that any different than what they're doing with immigration law county? Well, if the state legislature tried to pass a law that tried to exempt people from cooperating with the IRS and the provision of certain tax information towards the end of Thornton, I think that would be a lot closer. I think that would be a lot closer. I mean, I think what we've seen here is that the rule of law is just this term that folks are using to try to justify what they do or they don't do, but they don't really believe what they wanna do is accomplished their own ideological objectives. And if they can fit into the law, great, if they if they can't, then they'll pass a law. The works the rule of law federal laws supreme, they don't have the right to change it. They cannot change federal law. Exactly. Right. That's right. They can't. But we're. Jack we're not going to be coerced into using state resources to enforce federal law. I don't wanna do that. You don't want to do that. But this is different. This is now passing laws that prohibit the state from even providing information about criminals, not just a legal aliens. Not those hard working people. We hear about who decided that, hey, our immigration laws were for the birds and we ignore them, because really, we have bigger interests are selfish. It's not those people people that have come here and committed crimes, and we've said, we'll protect you from ice. That's the argument though, they're undermining federal law. That's the argument. That's exactly the argument they are bypassing laws. They are absolutely undermining federal laws. Jack. Thank you, for that phone call Jackson is open at eight five five four zero five eight to five. That is true. If you have thoughts on what Justin Smith said and some of these legislative changes that I do not think are going to make us a single wit safer, and they're certainly not going to make a better people, please. Call in I want to shift gears just a little bit. I don't know if you've heard, but there. Our states in our country who have passed laws that address abortions, there's five that I know of right now but one that seems to have drawn a great deal of attention because the amount of Hollywood that has shown up there to make movies and films. And all this other stuff is the state of Georgia in the south, and they've passed a pretty tough law. When it comes to abortion, I don't want to debate abortion with you. I don't want to debate the right or the wrong, or what about in the cases of incest, or or rape. What about late term abortion? We can have all those conversations on a different day. But here's what's happening. You are now seeing private citizens and businesses and frankly, our own secretary of state here, start to boycott the state of Georgia. By withholding their dollars in their tourism and all that other stuff here locally, and you can find this in the Denver post, and there's probably a lot of other publications out there. Josie Sexton wrote about this. It was in the paper today. It's called Denver chefs raised twenty five thousand dollars for Planned Parenthood with the bake sale. This is the other response to these new abortion laws. And that is that some private businesses in Denver, some of these restaurants have all gotten together to contribute a certain amount of money to Planned Parenthood to support them. I think they have the absolute right to do that. I guess I as I try to think about this issue. I am less concerned with should they or could they do it? Then what should be the response to that? Now, if you're a person that's out there that believes that abortion is tantamount to murder, or just outright, murder, or you think that it's wrong or you think to yourself, man, I, I understand us having the opportunity to do this up to the first trimester like the majority. Of Americans, but after that, I have real concerns about it, I have concerns about it being used because we didn't get the right gender, or there's something wrong with some genetics or anything like that. The question is, would you feel comfortable? In fact, would you affirmatively boycott those businesses who took a political position against something that you truly believed in just the way, Hollywood is talking about taking a position against Georgia, just the same way that will elicit Milano and all of these other stars, and some in our secretary of state have decided we're going to boycott Alabama. We're going to boycott Georgia. Would you ever boycott a business because they took a position opposite yours on a political issue, and specifically abortion, there's some of the names of these businesses that have raised money for Planned Parenthood.
