"Sure that as time goes on We correct the problems that we need to deal with Kenosha, Mary, Aunt Iranian. They're speaking about changes they're going to make. They're gonna hold listening sessions in Kenosha the next few weeks and months as they try to heal that city following the police shooting from last month. Joining us now on the first Midwest Bank hotline is Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth. Sheriff. It sounds like you guys had some sparks fly a little bit overnight. It was just a little bit last night. A group of about 40 to 50 cars from most of them are from out of state. They were traveling through. A young lady got arrested, pulled over. By the State patrol brought to jail and the group followed her into the into the city and waited till she left him just chanted. We have too much issue but a little bit last night. So I guess I'm curious where these but these cars came from. And how did they know what had happened to this woman? Well, Gina, that's a really good question. Ah, something I know that New Jersey, Colorado, Illinois When they left, I actually followed him up to the interstate, and most of them went north. I heard rumor that some of that the group may have been coming from Washington and just stopping by Kenosha. I don't have all the states. I didn't hear all of that. And the way to that. I remember for sure. New Jersey in Colorado and Illinois and Wisconsin, but Social media seems to be playing a major role in a lot of the issues that that we have. I don't know that it did in this one, because I think this was kind of Ah, tightknit group already kind of traveling. Wherever they came from. I don't know. So the Jacob Lake shooting was last month. The DOJ investigation expected to wrap up in a couple of weeks. Is there anything sheriff that you have to prepare for? Whether it's more demonstrations? Reaction? Whatever the investigation ends up being Well, of course, and whether something's going to happen or not, You know, we don't know we're in. We're in dissipating. No matter how the decision comes out that we're going to need to do something. I mean, you have You have cities that win the Super Bowl and World Series and for some reason they destroy the city s O. We think it won't be to that level, but we'll be prepared for anything that gets rolled out. Yeah. Sheriff. I'm wondering with all of this going on right now. All over the country isn't getting more difficult to recruit people. The last two years has been more difficult to recruit people. We still get really good candidates that apply, but our numbers were down back years ago. I think when I apply there like 600 applied Um, And then lately I've been getting 100 or 80 that apply and analyst used the last two years there lasting six months. So it is getting more and more difficult. I'm I'm glad Cream of the crop is still fine. And we're still putting good candidates on the road since the shooting, Sheriff, What have you learned from this process? Is there anything you would have done differently? Oh, my God, I have learned I have learned Maura about these type of situations I ever thought I would know in my life. Um and try think of differently. One thing that we did do last night. We Immediately mobilized local law enforcement to come because we didn't know what this group really their intent was. So we mobilize our resource is the city police departments resource is and the agencies around us. Very, very rapidly and I'm going to I'm going to give credit to all the different agencies around Southeast God intended people fast, Teo to hopefully have squelch this and sent them on their way. And so that's one of them. The I'll also learned that a lot of these groups of people they get paid to do this. This is, uh, this is the job for some of these people and I'd love to know who's paying them to come and create havoc. These were not local people last night. Have you looked into the the militia folks who were here? And I know there were some questions about some of the videos showing law enforcement officials talking to and in one case, offering water To some of those militia members the night of the deadly shooting. I know you had said that they're not from Kenosha County. But is that something that is further investigated or looked into Um, well, it is the incident with Kyle. Now, remember what is written Burger. Whatever name is any ocular annoy, and that's that's being investigated. There were the person who initially called that militia group is from Kenosha. And he was calling in and again on social media. Social media is not Not a friend to piece. Um, but it's Obviously, that adds tension and it creates issues and it's not something I'm in favor of. I have no problem with people protecting their properties. But when they're walking and marching down streets with With angry protestors. It's creating more and more of an issue as we saw Sheriff. I'm wondering, how do you know we're going to going to this group that was travelling through last night? How do you know that? These people are getting paid. I don't know that that group got paid. We are aware from the people that have been arrested from over the last month. There are people that right Cards and make phone calls that are threatening resign. Do all these things and they get paid a stipend each month to do these things. They're handed him a card that I'm being sent are printed by who and they other people would just write. A few words done it address. It likes Amy, and then they mail it off. One of the people at During the first night early in the morning, came up to the security fans and with Howard at one of our deputies and told him something along the line of I'm not stopping this, and he's one of the the people agitators. And he says, I am not stop that. I'm getting paid to do it. I am not losing this job and he's wearing Ah, line green like a highway department best. Uh, that was his job. He sloughed declared that he didn't do this. Sheriff David Beth on the first Midwest Bank hotline. Before we let you go, sheriff, are you privy to any of the details of when a DOJ investigation would.

"Now he talked about the violence. That is the line for me and a lot for a lot of you as well. Tim from Padonia joins us on the on the former site in Faced with morning. Thank you for taking up, Tom. Couple a couple of quick point, Steve, these things should have never gotten this far. Okay. When, when elected officials take not only the cops when elected officials In hopes of office. They're number one is to protect the constitutional rights and safety of their citizens that they're protecting and are serving. Evers didn't that's in the situation. He was offered protection from the federal to come in and help out. You denied that so he broke it off right there. At the end of the day. We're gonna look back, Steve and look at the facts with the boycotting going on the sports and just makes my point here. We're kind of pro testing a myth you, Steve, if you look at the numbers and the facts of the situation We always argue and loot and riot over things that are not actually based their rhetorically based and argumentative Ili base, but they have no actual value affection. Satisfied And then all of a sudden everybody's lives is running. That's lost in this whole thing that we have no leadership at the state level. Thanks for listening as well to your point about the lack of response. Here's what's Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth said. Yesterday, he said Evers did not reject any proposal from Kenosha. "Always. Eric Wilson was working the morning show Mike Spaulding sitting in his chair. After warmed it up for five hours, four hours in 3.5. Well, that's the official time. You know, you know, Eric, He's probably sit in that chair for at least an hour before you left last night. He probably didn't all right. We take us back to Kenosha and the governor, lieutenant governor making a visit yesterday for the first time since Sunday, both of them appeared in Kenosha, addressing the shooting of Jacob Blake. The governor also addressed the use of the militia members who were there for crowd control. All those people running around with long guns. For no apparent reason. Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes, also with Evers happens, Charlotte Somebody ran their vehicle to protesters. Heather Higher was killed now. Kenosha, Wisconsin, is Also home to that sort of tragic scene. Barnes, referring to two men who were shot and killed on Tuesday night. The governor, also calling another states to help Kenosha by way of additional National Guard troops, asking Arizona, Michigan and Alabama to send. Some are away members of the Wisconsin National Guard of being there Since Monday. Thankfully, things have settled down quite a bit in the last couple nights, and that is a good thing, and part of that is there's been obviously a much more heavy presence of official agents from both the federal level state level in local level. I was listening to Sheriff David Beth yesterday from could also talking about all the different agencies in Wisconsin that has shown up departments that have had maybe only have a few members, but one of those members showed up and sheriff's departments that have sent people down. As much as people want to respect the right of rights of protesters. This thing devolved to the point where safety Was a significant concern, and I think I think even protestors, at least judging by what I see by the recent turn out the last couple nights have realized there's an element of danger here. That is not going to help. The situation is not going to advance your cause. And again I start with the position I celebrate protesters. But my line is clear. When it becomes violence becomes looting. You are no longer protesters. You are criminals, and the lieutenant governor is very careful in his wording. He likes to use the word protesters. It is okay, even for a Democrat in the state of Wisconsin to call out bad behavior. Just like it's okay for Republican to do the same thing. I'd like to see more of that That is actual leadership. When I when I go after several members of the state Legislature, some prominent Democrats who Agitate and feed into this. Mo mentum for bad actors in bad behavior at these protests, fueling some of this stuff. That's where your leadership should kick in, and unfortunately in a few isolated cases, the opposite opposite is happening and we're not seeing great leadership, so don't be afraid to call out people that go to far on both sides. That's the essence of great leadership, the ability to take the politics out of it and just focus on what's in front of you. And in the case of Kenosha, these went too far, ultimately resulting in the deaths of two individuals who did not have to die. Yet I'm no longer with us. Think about those things when you make these public statements and these official pronouncements use your words carefully, but be a really leader, not a political leader, heading back to Washington, D. C. As there will be a major event this afternoon Commemorating Dr King's I have a Dream speech. It's a A rally where thousands of people are expected to show up to protest against racial injustices. That group includes a number of marchers from Milwaukee, who left 24 days ago to attend the rally. That group was led by Frank Nitti, and they arrived DC early just went It's a different age. So Sheriff Beth doesn't trust the citizens is what he just said. He doesn't trust you at all. All I asked me to deputize They're clearly not doing the job. It wasn't police that prevented that one business that was burned one night and then didn't get burned again. The second night it wasn't Beth and his deputies out there that prevented that from happening. It was the armed business owners who did that. I'm gonna tell you something. I support my police. But you want to endanger that relationship. You say stupid stuff like this. I'm not here to be anyone's friend. I'm in this for rights. They affect me. It is selfish and I don't care. I want my rights and I want to be left alone. And if you're telling me that I can't defend myself or defend my property, and you're not going to do it either. I'm not going to listen to you. You have lost any authority with me. Don't you deputized as I said, Hell, no. Cause we had stuff like this. That happened. That's I was thinking about the logic of that for a moment. So he's saying well, because we weren't out there on we were. We were not doing this businesses and you could sit here and say all day long at the city told you to step back or the governor told you to step back. You know, I didn't realize you swore the oath to the governor, particularly or to the mayor. But you know, whatever. Andre weren't out there doing this. They weren't out there protecting the businesses and protecting private property in protecting people from being assaulted, etcetera, etcetera. So that fueled this desire for other people who saw a need to fill the need. And now you're saying it's so slick, cyclical that well because of stuff like this because this stuff like the situation you created. Hell, I'm not sure I want you deputized. Sheriff Beth Goodness. I I mean this, he says. Part of the problem is they create confrontation. Really? Because they walk around with guns. I only saw people standing in front of businesses. How does that create confrontation? I would think that the creation of confrontation comes with the people who are setting the fires and doing the looting. But if you want to protect those people and try to shame people for using their second Amendment right of self defense, you do you and I hope that you all realize that this is further proof that the state hates your ability to defend yourself. They hate it. He's like, Oh, yeah, you You know you're you guys probably wouldn't be too intimidated, He says it's because you're used to seeing officers with having guns. Because if I put my wife out with an air of 15 or my brother with a shotgun walking through the streets, you guys would wonder what the heck's going on. No, I wouldn't. Especially if they're carrying lawfully. How stupid do you think the people you serve Our What an indictment of the really What a smear and an impregnation of character for the people you served, Sheriff. You must be joking me here. Why he's He goes in Kenosha. We're not accustomed to rights were not accustomed to it. We're working hard. We're getting better at this. Better, really. No, like I don't. I don't think that those two officers that I saw in the Blake video were in the wrong From everything I've seen in the video. I do think that the sheriff, I don't like his remarks here. I think that they're insulting of the people that he was elected to serve. I think that it shows a complete lack of faith in the citizenry. And I'm gonna tell you something, And I hope that you elected officials really hear me if you are demonstrating and really.
