Jay joins us on the Shell Pennzoil performance line this morning Jay good morning for those that may be too young or don't understand the scope of what John Thompson Junior meant to college basketball. How would you sum it up? He was a giant in in basketball both literally and figuratively, and he did so much for the game not only on the x No side that you did a substantial amount there. You know his Georgetown Teams especially when you got nineteen, eighty, seventy, nine, eighty through the early nineties they were a force and the best defensive coaches in the history of the game, his teams were very disciplined. Very smart and very together and that that's why they were so great defensively, it wasn't just that they were athletic. they were smart and disciplined. And almost went to the final four in nineteen eighty when John lost a a one point game to Iowa and that was lute Olson's first final four and lute Olson passed away a little earlier last week But John, Thompson. was that he was also fought for social justice before it was it was cool if you will. Think. You'll remember back in the eighties there was legislation by the NC double called proposition forty two. That put in a entrance requirements and they were disproportionately affecting African Americans and John Thompson and a game I. Believe it was Boston College got up before the tip and walked off the floor and protest with a towel over his shoulder and and you know he took a stand and took a stand on on multiple issues He was not always popular because the things that he was saying that time was really uncomfortable for for people to hear. And you can imagine I mean are people are uncomfortable. Now think how it was back in the in the late Seventies. Early Eighties one John Thompson was was setting a standard and with standing up on social issues. He he was a, he was a a great great person a man of of really high character and You know you don't want it to get lost what a great coach was but he was also a great man.

What Else Did Shel Silverstein Write?
"Decades ago in the evenings around closing time a man with a very bald head and a very dark beard used to come sloping into the mysterious bookshop in New York City. His shoulders hunched is the warding off a perpetual cold wind. The proprietor auto pens ler had come to expect these visits indeed. He looked forward to them. He would close up the shop and guide the man back to his. Inner Sanctum. A book lined study with floor-to-ceiling shelves there the bearded man would deliver a Sheaf of papers containing a new freshly penned mystery story to be added to the theology. That Pencil publishing the writer refused to take any money for his efforts. Even though pens lawyer was paying well. He craved compensation. His eyes gleamed as pennsly- slid his payment across the desk between them. It was a stack of used books containing dozens of stories written in the mystery genre later that night he would devour them one by one but first pens lawyer and the bearded man would talk and talk. They talked about books about life. Auto pens layer was just recovering from a devastating break-up and so they spoke about battling in a recent phone interview for this article. Pennsly- remembered that at a certain juncture. His guests said something so piercingly insightful and eloquent about the break up that it took his breath away Henseler said I wish I could remember what he said but I failed to write it down what I do remember. Is that when I expressed my amazement at his facility with words he just shrugged and said I guess that's why they call me a poet. He could've added among many other things because our bald and bearded man was Shel Silverstein a true renaissance man. Of course many of us know him as the author and illustrator of the giving tree a light in the attic and where the sidewalk ends among many of the other wildly successful books that he wrote Andrew for children. That's only the tip of the proverbial Iceberg Silverstein also drew cartoons and wrote plays for adults and penned numerous songs especially country songs. In fact he won. Two grammys for song. Writing one of them for the Johnny Cash. Hit A boy named Sue Sheldon Allen. Shel Silverstein was born into a Jewish family in Chicago in nineteen thirty his father and a bakery which only began to thrive in the wake of the Great Depression. After high school. Shell spent some time studying at the Art Institute of Chicago and later Roosevelt University but was drafted into the US army serving in Korea and Japan. Silverstein began working for the military periodical. Stars and Stripes and it was there that he began regularly publishing his idiosyncratic cartoons after his military service Silverstein got a job as a cartoonist. For the fledgling magazine. Playboy for his playboy gig. He traveled the world sending cartoon dispatches from Bahrein wide in nineteen sixty three Silverstein. Met Book Editor Ursula Nordstrom. Who prodded him into writing books for Children? And that same year he wrote the giving tree a book about the nature of Altruism and selfishness there would become his most famous and popular work his sense of the absurd and the whimsical cartoon line drawings that illustrated this and all of his books would become his hallmarks in deceptively simple language. His exploration of the innocence and imagination of childhood made him one of the most celebrated and widely read authors for generations of children and adults like Auto Penn's lair recall Silverstein telling him that he spent a year living at the playboy mansion as a guest of Hugh Hefner. It was there that he met Susan Hastings with whom he had daughter named Shoshana in nineteen seventy tragically. Susan died in nineteen seventy five and two. Shana passed away. Unexpectedly after cerebral aneurysm. In one thousand nine hundred two by many accounts her death utterly devastated Silverstein in Nineteen eighty-four. He had a son named Matthew with Sarah Spencer. According to Pens Ler Silverstein was a deeply eccentric. Man Pennzoil told us for instance. It wasn't unusual for him to be having dinner in a restaurant with a group of friends and then suddenly announced that he was done. Get up take a taxi to the airport and flight of Chicago or Los Angeles or Florida or wherever he felt like going on the spur of the moment shel. Silverstein died of a heart attack in nineteen ninety nine at the age of just sixty eight but in story song and image. He left behind a remarkably prolific artistic record.

"The show appear to be a shell Pennzoil performance line and I know this is a big night in the golden household I know that you guys love the big fights and this entire family here and your family will be watching Tyson while their part two with very keen interest all without a doubt without already told my wife right we get off the air at eight o'clock eastern here I told my wife like I'm not even stopping messages jump into the truck as I drive pass and I try to get to my sister's house as we're one of the few families that I I know that still have fight parties you know we haven't had a fight party for a heavyweight fight I mean since I was a little kid you know usually is the Walter white fights the Paki owls the may weather's even some of the lower guys little the next tier down but tonight a heavyweight fight I cannot wait I'm just so excited that you actually have two guys that are really good in the last fight was amazing so I am completely do stuff for tonight well last fight was a split decision draw between Wilder and fury by the way I love that you guys still have fight parties because I think truthfully my last fight party was when Tyson bit off Holyfield's ear that's the last like big one I remember but I also remember my most disappointing fight night no that was not disappointing when Tyson bit the year I mean it was oh no never worth the price we'll review for you but I remember the first fight when Tyson got out of prison member he was was it Nick Neely here was some some guy that he was just going to obviously wax and right hold my whole football team I was a junior in high school and the whole varsity football team got together in some dudes basement and we all pointed up the couple Bucks a guy like there's a lot of guys the by this fighting Tyson comes out with the red man song time for some action like here we go time for cemex in and in like thirty seconds later the fight was over and that's that was there so what's I know tonight will be much much better because it seems like and it you tell me as someone that really watches the sport closely that while Wilder is the favorite these two guys are fairly evenly matched right yes yeah I mean fury has a heck of a chance then that helps you know when you have such a powerful guy like Wilder so it is it is evenly matched now with the worst thing that can happen is a quick knockout right because this is has just so much energy for tonight so much hype you know if you go out first round knockout yeah people will kind of be happy but would you really if your boxing you want a seven seven eighth round knockout so people feel like they got their money's worth right because it costs a little bit to get the paper view people want to feel like they get their money's worth and you will also want to see an end in a spectacular fashion what they don't want to see is another split decision draw because then I think a lot of people will be upset it's cool that it happened last time because now part two you know what there's even more at stake but you definitely don't want to draw at the end of this week I hear is Deontay Wilder this week in the pre fight press conference telling everyone that he's the one that brought Tyson fury to the quote big time but not to say he got me to be Tom box you know I almost slept because it will take time is given it's a big the opening statement on Tuesday don't forget when I found you you will you will stand out on cold when I found him he was he was like a big house laying about killing yourself so don't forget to do big town but brought to you by the food put food on your table for your family and I'm doing it for the second time so to do don't you ever forget that this those are fighting words I hate to pocket Biggie right there when they had their break like serious yes yes yeah it is and I'm I'm surprised I guess I'm not surprised that Wilder guide so personal but he is known as a very intense guy especially when he grabs a hold of the microphone but that's what we would that the I think that's what I want as a fight fan the last thing I want to see our two guys going Hey you're gonna find a you know what you're gonna find it too can't wait to fight I don't want to see that I want I want to feel like guys don't like each other it is no way fear you can like while directed films coming up you bring up a guy's drug habit and I think all the pleasantries go out the door here so I mean right say this is a really hyped fight Joe Tessitore jokes pass the voice of Monday Night Football also top rank on ESPN was on the will Cain show yesterday and ESPN radio and he believes this fight tonight is bigger than even Lewis Tyson what's that was a huge promotion and that was a spectacle but that was the eagle autumn of Mike Tyson's career right it was just that you had to hold for superstars of all time I didn't want to lose within his absolute prime you pretty much knew the outcome of that fight and then he delivers on it and knocks out Mike Tyson these guys are in there absolutely fine they're the best versions of themselves and we're going to be eight forty two oh one one with twenty one knockouts undisputed champion against o'neill heavyweight champion undefeated as well in a remarkable post fight that was leaking wacky movie we had one guy coming up for multiple knockdowns and continue not to fight and that poltergeist where the bridge is going to come after each other and make this thing happen will homes went starts on Saturday night but I mean let me ask you this you're quickly okay everyone knows everyone knew Mike Tyson everyone knew rex Lewis everyone knew Evander Holyfield right these are names that you didn't have to be a boxing fan to know who these guys were can you say that necessarily about the two guys fighting tonight as far as their nation wide maybe not boxing specific Q. rating no not at all that's why I kind of disagree with Tessitore there now he's right in the fact that this should be a better fight because both fighters are at their apex they're they're in their prime and I agree with that point but no one really knows who these guys are less you like a boxing fan like myself or you know my brother in law yeah we're here of the world is in hip yet now if they have a great fight tonight then they'll go on that way you gotta have household names in order for you know the fights to be extremely big like the the Lewis in the Titans and stuff so I disagree with Tessitore there all right so so again tonight it's Deontay Wilder against Tyson fury part two the under card begins at eight PM eastern on ESPN but the pay per view is on ESPN plus you'll get ESPN plus that begins at nine PM eastern time because a basketball coming up next you know it's a huge weekend in Miami Heat legend will have his Jersey center.
The Nissan VR Engine
"VR. Thirty Eight D. E. T.. T. is an all aluminum. Twin turbocharged v six to great motor. That's right every engine is assembled hand cleanroom and only the most experienced Nissan mechanics are allowed to work in this building There's only four dudes that build these motors. It wasn't super powerful at the time because like cars the Zonda and stuff from making like seven hundred zonders a two million dollar cars. Actually this thing I think was sixty no eighty ninety The VR we are was hooked up the VR. Thirty eight rather was hooked up to an updated version of the TAZA. all-wheel-drive that prioritized rear grip. This time around the combination of great power lean by rear grip so not sliding it out. Yeah you had me until you got to. The board out. Part hurt the combination of awesome power and great all-wheel-drive made the GT are one of the hardest launch and cars in the world achieving zero to sixty in three point point two seconds. That's fast for Backman. Yeah was faster than all the expensive competition and the Gtri wasn't just good at streetlight. Straight line performance either. The new are thirty thirty five. Maybe understood a little more than the thirty four but when it when hawked around turns even the enormous of observers can see that the Gtri was hooked in the corners was getting her done and I love jokes that my friends take your soul. Crushing stability was the name of the game with the our thirty five. Some people say that feels like the car is driving itself a little a bit. I like that. I won't complain about driver assistance and stuff. He's on helping yet. So Nissan's goal is to make a supercar picard. Anybody could drive and you know having a car that drives a self achieved that so while done Nissan Of course there is some special editions and racing versions like the two thousand as an eight. Every Team's Top Potential Free-Agent Targets After 2019 NBA Draft
"You about to be immersed in woke bombs, because it is that time of the year. Our NBA insider, everyone else joins us. Whoa. Just before we get into free agency, which is going to be interesting. We are now what twelve hours removed from the draft. Your initial takes who won who lost? Well, I thought the two teams who made the most significant trade last night. New Orleans, and Atlanta, both fared very well maximize the assets that they had Atlanta moving up into number four. To get. The hunter from Virginia. Maybe most versatile forward in this draft the best defensive player player doesn't need the ball in his hands. They've got a lot of scoring on Atlanta team. And then Cam, reddish, who is probably a top three or four talent taking a little bit of a flyer on him at ten and then New Orleans, you know, their ability to keep expanding this Anthony Davis trade. They got Jackson Hayes at center beyond Ziya Williamson David Griffin, thanks, that's going to give them in the long term. Maybe the most athletic front court in the league pick up another first round pick. And now also have nearly thirty million dollars in salary cap space to go out and free agency. And some veterans to this team that could make it conceivable that, that the pelicans could make the playoffs in their first year without Anthony Davis. And usually when you trade a player of that, caliber. From a small market, you're going into a full rebuild. But I think the winning the lottery being able to get Zion Williamson has a lot of David Griffin to go and just the opposite direction. And they're set up really well in New Orleans, talking about teams on the way up in there seems kind of scratching our heads about that would be the Celtics. What what's going on there? Well, listen, they're preparing to lose career being Al Horford in free agency. They've got in the neighborhood of twenty six twenty seven twenty eight million dollars in cap space, they could use that to go after Senator to replace Al Horford. Nicola Busa vich in Orlando's a free agent. The Lakers have interest there if they can get the cap space for him if they want to put all in one player, but which is at priority in Orlando. You know, there's I think there's motivation on both sides to get a deal done. But if they weren't able to, you know, Boston's and position to swoop in there and try to make a deal with vich Boston still has some really good young players. Now they go from team that thought they were ready to compete for championships to a team now built around Jason Tatum. Jalen Brown Gordon Hayward who still on the right side of thirty years old, and who probably will have a much better season this year than last. But they've got to address that point guard position in Boston. They obviously have taken a step back if both of those players are gone free agency and that's and that's how they feel. That's how it appears right now talking to Adrian ward NASCAR ESPN NBA insider on the show Pennzoil performance line. And something we had Brian win horse on earlier. We're talking a little bit about as teams you mentioned move things around or creating cap space right now. The idea that the seventy Sixers with some available cap space could potentially take shot or try and get a meeting with Kawhi Leonard coming up in free agency. Tell us what you think about the viability of that. Oh, I think they'll get a meeting. I mean listen getting a meeting and being a serious contender for free agent are two different things and very often the relationships in place that will allow a team to get a meeting I thought all along Philadelphia would probably get a meeting for Leonard. I think the Knicks will also get a meeting with Leonard, but the front runners are still Toronto and the clippers. But. Players and their representatives will meet often sometimes as a courtesy with other teams but their focus in Philadelphia is keeping their own. And that's Jimmy Butler Tobias Harris and JJ Rettig. He's an important part of that group too, and he's coming off an outstanding season. It's going to be expensive to keep that team together. They knew that when they made the trades for Harris and for Butler, but their priorities to keep them and also find a way to keep there. You know, I think they may get a meeting with Leonard, but I don't think they're going to be a physician to sign them or insider, eighty ask is with us right now. Whoa. What, what are we hearing? The latest on the, the possibility that there might be a sign and trade deal that keeps Kevin Durant in Golden State, while he's rehabbing. So he gets his money, and then they'll be able to get something for money moves on trade. I don't know anything about that. I think the focus and Golden State right now is to try to sign Kevin Durant to keep Kevin Durant in with the warriors. They're going to offer him a five-year max contract, just as they were before the Killys injury. You know all the options that were there for Kevin Durant before that injury are still there. All the teams that were recruiting him that we're willing to essentially offer them the full scholarship, nobody's pulling back on the book or the meal plan, he's getting full scholarship from everybody. Maximum. Allowable for years with another team five years with the warriors, and they're determined to try to keep him keep Klay Thompson. Great analogy, by the way. As far as actual galleys of free agent when you can actually talk and deal with players. Forgetting that how much of the race is going on right now in the timing issues of these teams talking back door to try and get these things done. Now I mean we live in the real world, Mike and free agency started weeks ago just did. And so it's ongoing. You cannot keep people from talking, there are different philosophies out there. There are different styles going at it. I'm not saying every team is out every free agent is out, literally to go shitting numbers. But are there, some yes there are, and that's always been the case? But I think because of how many teams have so much you have over ten I think ten eleven teams with over twenty million dollars in space and teams who could go get it with one trade. Or waving a player who's got a partial guarantee. So there's lots of moving parts in this free agency teams don't want to be left behind. but you could also you can talk to your own player all the way through boston was able to talk about extension with al horford and it didn't look like they were not close on the numbers and that's why horford is headed in the free agency he feels they have some confidence there's a much bigger offer or offers out there for
Looking Back: Toronto Raptors Win Game 6 in NBA Finals
"So now we're past the NBA finals. Congratulations. At around raptors there, the champions of the basketball world. Now, the real fun begins involving that team Golden State Indian BA. Let's bring on Howard Beck was a terrific, terrific senior NBA writer for Bleacher report. He said, thanks to shell Pennzoil performance line. I'm going to go back to the finals Toronto Winston six. What word or words would use to describe that series? And what we all experienced and what we also with all due respect to the raptors 'cause they don't want their championship. I don't use the tip of their, their championship because their championship deserves all the plot. It's all the praise that, that they've earned that you're asking me just to describe the series weird. I mean. You know, and that was from the beginning, by the way, we roll back to clock McAllister a couple of weeks here. I said, even we're going into the series that this was going to be possibly the strangest or these the most unique final. Dive of are covered up covered eighteen or nineteen of them now. And the reason is we've never had a final start where the superstar each team was both in both cases possibly leaving. Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant that was unprecedented tone that these guys were so much in play remain. So, but then bigger than that was just the, the fact that Kevin Durant was not starting the series but was not necessarily out either. He was this spectre looming over the whole thing. And so even as the raptors one game one even as the warriors sweet out game to the real question was not. Well, how's it going, how matchups going to go? What's the moves and counter moves? And who's the better team? It was no Wayne is Kevin Durant coming back. And if he does that change the entire complexion of the series, and that alone made this series this finals, absolutely unique, and then all the other layers on top of it, the intrigue over, what he comes back the frustrations that have been reported about the with the warriors team. It's about not knowing when he was gonna come back is coming back Klay. Thompson misses a game on looney misses the game. Dread does come back. And of course goes down with that terrible achilles. And they somehow manage to, to be a game in a game six where they could have extended this thing. And Klay Thompson goes down with the ACO. We've just never ever ever seen anything quite like this NBA finals. I'm always a big believer that even if it's something is not a positive even if it's a negative is going to help sell it's going to get a lot of attention. How much do you think with all that going on really not only help the NBA, but further the NBA going into the future going into the offseason with free agency from the NBA is not having any trouble getting attention? These days ratings are generally great, tennis, great their credibly popular period. I think the NBA is fine regardless what I do. Think is positive coming out of the series. I mean, let's, let's go just the fact that we've got free agency coming up first NBA free agency, NBA transactions have become like its own season in its own its own category of story. So there's the basketball in the NBA is very proud of the quality about four knows. I think they should be there's all the other stuff in the NBA is more than happy to have all the other stuff the transactions in the rumors. They're they're fine with all of that. It's, it's, you know, teams may not like speculation about their player and the player may not always like a is kind of sitting there going, you know, it's fine. You know, people are talking about a lot the tweeting about us, and they're speculating, and it's fine. But in terms of the finals, and how it impacts NBA popularity I think it can only be good for the league to have the raining. Super team. Not just lose as the warriors did. But all of a sudden very moral because Kevin Durant is probably not gonna play next season even if he stays. And I don't think he's staying Klay. Thompson may not play all next season if he stays, and I think he will stay, but the warriors won't be the warriors next season. So after all, these years of people saying it's a fatal complete the season is meaningless. We're just waiting for the warriors coronation. Well, that's not going to be the case anymore. There's no you know, we have warriors Cavs for four straight years. And then we had warriors Toronto next season next June. We're going to have a completely different finals, Leonard leaves, the raptors will have a different entrance from the east also. So if you if you're a fan of restoring some equilibrium, or not wanting a super team that just dominates too extreme measure than we're gonna good place where things stand right now because there's gonna be
Torture report shows progress in Afghanistan, but much more needed
"We'll have to be some measures taken by the government to address torture. We are seeing some Pennzoil impacts of the steps taken by the government over the last two years. But while it's good to see that. There's some progress the oval big as will torture and treatment of conflict related detainees. Still disturbingly high in the sense that one insert sorry to interrupt. But in the sense that one in three detainees six hundred plus detainees who you? Nominate contacted the UN mission in Afghanistan. One in three say, they tortured in what way would they tortured, please they were tortured principally by beachings mainly by eating with hikes in payables, including on the feet, which is very painful, but doesn't leave any mocks now in some pick your location, they were all other forms of kickback even more serious including with. Electric shocks is expensive from ceilings very hot to stress positions for extended. Periods of time. Pulling genitals reported threats of death and other forms of sexual violence. And also, a very common form in particular. Locations in panda included being suffocated, eighty the tactic digested ahead or your Walser for throats, and one common form was be covered by a blanket people sitting on Thursday and back and being also maintains except potatoes, especially the okay, so that sounds absolutely horrific. And yet, you NAMA is saying along with the office of the high commission of human rights that this is an improvement since the last report, which I think was in two thousand sixteen and do you? I started reporting on this in two thousand ten in the previous record. And if report it quite right thing debut stock and plenty time. Time is actually being some improvement in that it's disturbing wanting three and keep the down. However from thirty nine percent four out of ten in the previous two years ago. And the that in in twenty eighty there was some progress in the among those into twenty eighteen twenty seven to say because the real treatment. So yeah, I think how headline is that some progress is very long way to go. There was also at the normative and the negatives. If no in that in twenty eighteen Afghanistan exceeded the optional protocol eventually they'd still and that these why because today seventeenth today because one year since the optional protocol was exceeded to near encouraging Afghanistan too. Establish a national preventive mechanism as they're required to do. So can I just jump in Richard just to us? What is the state's ability and capacity to actually help improve this, obviously, there's a willingness to do. So, but how capable is it of actually achieving what it needs to? Yeah. All post anti-drug commissioned nationally ups yet eight legislative began store Jerry metro check, nor so they became being Orage taking some sticks at a high level it needs to do more. And they have been training have been establishment of mechanisms you've been the key agencies responsible for torture, including bagels and ESPN. She's been candidates agency, the police and the military, so they're awesome steps in the right direction to develop capacity, we have found however that what we call key procedural and other legal safeguards that'd be Parke's often failing to uphold them lose, for example, access to lawyers. I contacted the family medical screen and information of rights for detainees as well. Proper investigations to follow up when are complaints. Go turn treatment buying the perpetrators held to account or if they are the measures. They can be such serious such an serious crime, very light. And that victims are really told about progress or up of cases, which remain mainly opaque. Can I also just ask and sorta to interrupt about accountability? Because it doesn't sound like what it was certainly one of the features of the report and High Commissioner of human rights. Michelle Bachelet said there must be accountability. Otherwise, this kind of thing will never stop. But that's not particularly new messages it. So what are your main hopes having released this fifth report? A main hopes that the commitments made the normal given negative level internationally domestically actually in. Lamented in practice 'cause you're not seen enough of that yet. We we have seen some signs of accountability. Would apparently Trump people removed from positions, according to the government response to the report, but be seeing very little if any serious investigations or prosecutions still carry now a crime in this country, but many fits me to take him on accountability. At the criminal Justice never would also found that nearly all of the Chinese the report for chapter saying that the total ill-treatment stops. Once they confessed. And this kind of culture is very concerning. Confessions obtained done before share essentially worthless. And they are illegally excluded as evidence in court. And so that is another thing. Yeah. Much change needs to take place needed to use torture to obtain a confession do. Those who are perpetrating these abuses actually realized that is it a case of educating everyone in detention centers that it just went hold water in a court of law. It connected, and I think you're right -education training are absolutely necessary. That has been among standing practice of using torture to the pain confessions, and I think that making that issues unacceptable amigo country to the penal code. They have better results. I think we are starting to see better results in twenty eighteen particularly with the intelligence of the NBS and note that they have new UCF introduced better training and policies on torture. Yeah.
Police: Robert Kraft paid for sex act before AFC Championship
"So on Friday involving Robert Kraft the patriots owner the allegations. But no charges were out. There about him going to a place in Jupiter Florida and engaging in sex acts in the words, sex trafficking was put next to him even though people not putting him in the same box with that. Then on Monday charges have been filed against Robert Kraft in terms of that he visit eight massage parlor the morning of the AFC championship game. And it was the second visit by him to that parlor in less than twenty four hours. Let's bring my friend TJ Quin ESPN investigator reporter who is here. Thanks to shell Pennzoil performance line. What kind of lawyers or what kind of expertise is he going to need to give them underneath this. Orange. Know exactly what the evidence says. Because I haven't seen was described. I spoke to people from the prosecutor's office today. Basically quite confident of what they've got. It sounds like the kind of case. Very hard for out of Scott police identifying here is coming out of there after the cheese. What they do this. Yeah. They did they were over on a pretext traffic stuff related to this massage. Parlor, so they could get their ideas to video they adjust recorded in this spot. So they say that they got a crash ide- that night. They say the second night that it is crystal-clear Simona video. If that's the case, I don't know how you get out of charge. Like this even if it is what kind of jail time. Could it be looking at if any probably not? Both full offender baby aggravating. Says things like this really expect service. Call diversion. That teaches you about human trafficking. You have to tell you the fine could be like five thousand dollars. The least also Kim Barrasso and. The video. There's a very good chance of Florida has very liberal sunshine was related to the release of the documents. And that video is a public document. So it worked the whole. Pixellated or maybe the ended out there the worst products. But I would imagine that's challenges those high-paid baller. Would imagine trying everything they could to keep out from coming out practically everybody had the question why when it comes to this and Robert Kraft what question the TJ Quinn ESPN investigator reporter had when you heard about this on Friday. That was his exact question. Those resources gonna strip mall eight miles away from his house. I don't even know how many other places like that. He'd have to pass again. But what I asked for some people. It's not just here. There's serious high rollers very wealthy accomplished people who were also going there. And I said what is it? It about this place and was. They don't know what the answer. That was the big thing today. And also another thing I was curious about of course, was the age of the women that allegedly service, then one of the things I figured out a couple of different documents to Weber identified as being which have our forty five and fifty eight years old. People to others who was a question or the women. Rage. And one of the two women. The forty-five-year-old was actually Charles. Four. She actually ran the place. So I don't know how she got to this country or how she got into that. But in this case, she was wearing the show allegedly and was charged with four different counts related to prostitution TJ. Gwen ESPN investigator reporter with Freddie Cohen on Freddie and Fitz Simons on ESPN radio and ESPN app. You can follow him on Twitter at TJ Quin, ESPN the minute that I heard about all this on Friday TJ, the first thing I had in my mind was okay. The NFL situation because we know the NFL they don't do things according to the law or the court of law at a law public opinion. They're going to do things according to their law, and they've always been big about protecting the shield in holding owners to a higher standard. Then the players with this information. If it turns out to be true with Robert Kraft, how much trouble is he in with the NFL. Well, I don't know. Portray myself as an expert on this. Really other people I've read and just looking around. It's the best comparable case with the earth. Say something embarrassing to the league, probably a whole one. But it seems unlikely to be more serious than that certainly not as some people were speculating guessing mostly dolphins and jets fans that he would somehow be forced to sell the team. I can't it doesn't seem like that could possibly be the case. After the Super Bowl victory. Number five. That trophy except for a little more because of what they went through with the fleet date. So there there is no loss. What could Robert Kraft say about this whole deal TJ, man? If I knew that I'd be charging. I heard from a spokesperson was he didn't finally laws. Now that's up for a question of law. He did. Actually, just being careful. They don't want to say something. Avenue. Fight them. It's true. Great stuff by TJ Quinn. ESPN investigator reporter with Freddie Coleman on Freddie and Fitz Simons, an ESPN radio. I can't wait to hear an actual voice, meaning Robert Kraft because at a certain point he's going to have to have a have a press conference. It has to go beyond statements asked to go beyond that. I'm sure the NFL is paying close attention. But how close to the NFL PA the NFL players associates to be looking at this closely to see exactly what kind of punishment could be coming down for Robert Kraft. You know, but the but the league I imagine the question they weren't says by cancer, these well, somehow, the only two kinds you went there get he go to other places, or there are other women that are possibly waited younger was she aware that there was any trafficking place. Those are the bigger questions of the NFL is first I is to figure out what they don't know an award to question craft extensively because the biggest thing that they were to avoid another situation where they ask turns out that they nest of information out there like rice. In other cases, we can take out. That's gonna be the biggest thing is making sure that they know the entire story. The state attorney in the state of Florida TJ is going to have a tough job because as you put on Twitter, you had asked him if the wealth and fame of craft would mean different treatment, his response was I can assure you our office treats, everyone the same and that they hope to send a message by prosecuting people like this in this situation realistic TJ, how tough is that going to be for the state attorney in the state of Florida to hear them say it, they think the evidence is so overwhelming they're not gonna have a problem again. I'm an attorney. Away, by your legal opinion. Right around enough. You go after the evidence could argue that he was trapped. Well, sure that et cetera. I drove up who is observed walking anymore. Could you argue that it wasn't him? Well, they've already got sworn statements. Officers that they identified and positively out of there, and they say that is criminal. I gotta find that video. That's the case. I don't know. I don't care who your lawyer is. That's.
Knicks Snap 18-Game Home Losing Streak with Win over Spurs to Avoid NBA History
"Guys. We have a guest here obviously on the shell Pennzoil performance line. And it is oh guy. Our guy Bagley get your bag. Ian, how're you doing? In. My three favorites out there tonight. I'm very excited. Yes. ESPN New York. Knicks reporter also does the nets and basically holds the upper east coast down in did you know that the Knicks made the Oscars they pretty much won an Oscar did you notice this? Yeah. We got wind of it on social media after the game. And we asked a couple of players about if they hadn't seen a year for too excited to just see the clip Samuel Jackson, and Spike Lee. Not every not every year that the Knicks could have mentioned on the Oscars deserves rightfully so. Because the Knicks would at home first time that happened since December one twenty eight and I'm talking about last year folks, twenty we're everywhere. Number one two thousand eighteen they won. They beat the Spurs one thirty one eighteen and I even saw the icing on the cake who threw off the backboard pass for the dunk like it was just wild. How important Dennis Smith? Well, of course, it makes sense. Usually he's on the other end of the dunk rape. How does this when in Madison Square Garden me? What was the field? Was it like a sign of relief for coach physio it felt like a weight off everybody's shoulders, you know, coach FitzGerald would tell us that they don't think about it. They don't talk about it. But then the players afterward joking around the locker room, it just felt like a much later lock home. Now, they knew about they were one loss away from Batasuna longest losing streak ninety history set in ninety three ninety four by the Dallas Mavericks. They know that they have the longest losing streak in franchise history. This so they're aware of those numbers. They don't want to be a part of that history. Tonight, especially the team like the city until you're Spurs. It's not easy, especially for this. And we've got a twenty two games left would throw out the record. We know where we know where we are twelve hundred forty eight what should be the goals over the next six weeks here with this team wanna see consistency. I think so Kevin Knox. You'd wanna see what Frank ntilikina as you're still trying to answer that question. You know, one one and a half almost two seasons. Enter France career, he should get healthy at some points to from this point. I think it was the next to kiss him significant minutes trying to answer that question to try to see if he can be elite guard. What did he do off the ball and where he used offensively so between seven and Saint not some consistency. From those guys. I think the next like what they've seen recently from young player in literal Robinson who who's really played well, especially since the Andre Jordan has come over from Dallas Jordan has done a good job mentoring. Mitch robinson. So I think it's it's the young players on your team and being able to project them forward who is a keeper who can you pencil in for next year? And who do you think won't be around piggybacking off your point there? What's the the Knicks recruiting pitch this summer? You know, who they Bill that around is it around, you know, playing with somebody like Dennis Smith. Knox. Or like what how does that play out? Jordan because you have the two max slots. Pitches almost hey, come come here and tell us who you wanna play with right twenty nine hundred she class, we get that you wanna play with and Kevin Durant. Also simple. You want to change the narrative around. Golden State to win those titles. You come here. And you have success in New York you wanna title in New York. I mean, that's a forever thing doesn't staffers outside of Madison Square Garden and no one. We'll talk about how joined that Golden State to win your earlier title simple message. Anybody else? It's tell us who you wanna play with. We'll try to bring that guy in. That's the voice of in Begley are ESPN next report. And that's reporter upper east coast. Reporter you're listening to insiders. I'm Bobby marks Jordan Schultz ESPN radio ESPN app and Sirius XM channel eighty now. Talking about obviously, the potential free agency this summer. Those are all big question marks largely because of the trade deadline, sending Kristaps Porzingis opening up two slots, but tell me how worried were Knicks fans watching Duke UNC this past week in. Knick fans are still watching the Knicks games. I give them a lot of credit assume most expensive watching every night. So. A big sigh of relief. I think I'm this fanbase when you found out that that sign injury wasn't that serious that he's going to be okay. Because this record twelve weeks at this point. And they're just looking ahead towards the trash and like every other bottom. Feeding MBA franchise. They're looking at nine what you've seen how he can impact their roster. How much he can change the fourteen organization. So, you know, certainly everybody around here was relieved when they found that he was okay. The interesting thing so Zion and wherever the Knicks end up in the draft in the top three. They hope is could that pick then help them creed. With the woman's Francis us, I think that's something. That's that's certainly on the fan bases minded. I'm sure the front office is thinking about different permutations packages. They could put together including that twenty nine team first round pick to try to entice New Orleans Detroit. And before we let you go. What do you think Zion playing in Madison Square Garden would look like do you think it would be just the new coming up LeBron or even even bigger based on his highlights in his dunking ability. I remember the Jeremy Lin Ron and how much energy was in the building night in and night out. How much of the event every home game was your masters. I think it would be just like that. But even more so sign Williamson was here. Because you know, he getting the franchise all three player people talk about him as a prospect the same way, they talks about Davis to bring that kind of talent into this building would give this reasons for optimism something they haven't had in a long time around here in. I look forward to our shared slice of pizza. I know we've been pushing off that day for a long time. He's been the best pizza apparently in New York. But before we let you go last, but not least we have awards given out for the MBA insiders and honors of aren't Oscars. Have you been watching the Oscars tonight? Because I've been at the. Is your feed though, you saw here. A little bit here and there, okay? This has been a Mahershala Ali love fest on the show, but we actually have awards given out today on MBA insiders throughout the course of the night. I want to get your vote for the last category that we're trying to push best leading man. Are you ready for this vote pleased? The nominees are Janta Takubo of the box. PG thirteen Paul George of the thunder James harden of the rockets and Kawhi Leonard of the raptors who is your best leading man right now. I would go right now with John giving Milwaukee's records they're standing in the conference in the role that he plays on that team. I think he's most deserving of that honor at the moment all of Georgia's a close second. Given what he's done for the thunder
"shell pennzoil" Discussed on ESPN Chicago 1000 - WMVP
"Joins us on the shell Pennzoil performance line. Well, you know, you build things up, and you hope they lived expectations. Sometimes they do sometimes they don't and sometimes they don't for the wildest of reasons. Mike to use the old thirty for thirty one. What if I told you oh man that the reason that the Duke North Carolina game would fizzle was because of a faulty sneaker? You would have said get outta absolutely amazing. Thirty seconds thirty six seconds, anxiety has a ball back to the basket right around the free throw line, and he's planting with his left foot, and basically the side of the shoe just from the same on the side, right by the soul in the bottom of the shoe just destroy disintegrates in his foot comes right out of the shoe, his right, leg, buckles and kind of bands. And that was the actually sprained slipped with his left foot. Sprained his right knee got up under his own power limped off. Off the court then limped into the locker room. It's been called a mild spraying, they'll do an MRI and see where it goes from here. But thirty six seconds in this. Great anticipation, and let's be honest. Listen do Carolina speaks for itself without as far as rivalries, I concern. But when you add the show that Duke has been and his been the show because of mainly Zion. Williamson that's what everybody was there to see. That's why I take it was gone for ten thousand dollars. That's why people were packed in that place paying so much money. Do it and thirty seconds thirty six seconds at a blown out sneaker cost you watching Zion for an entire game, Duke, North Carolina will always be a must watch event it will. But what made it via vent was I on here and to see that go away. And let's be clear even ROY Williams in victory knew that this one comes with a little bit of an asterisk beyond everybody beyond. When the big fella goes out of the game. It changes a lot of stuff for them. Zion. Williamson I've never seen anything like him. And that was a huge blow for them. And having that happened during the course of the game. You don't have time to prepare for it. So hated that part of it because I think he's such a wonderful kid. But that was a huge blow for them at that time. There's no question. So for all those saying, well, it's completely unfair that there should be an asterisk or something against what North Carolina did ROY Williams is saying, no, no no understand it changed the game completely. Yeah. But I'm not putting an Astra Sarah player standpoint. They don't care, you know, who is out there won't care down the road who is out there or not. And by the way, did we mention North Carolina light start to finish. Correct. In this game end up winning by sixteen points. Luke maye who is a senior now. But seems like he's been there for so long scores. Thirty Cam Johnson scores what twenty six in this one? They absolutely dominated Duke, especially in the paint with outscored of sixty two to twenty eight sixty two points in the paint. But there's a reason because Zion was there so understand that as we go down to Raleigh for our guys that were there at the game Jason Fitz and my goal of Junior Seau Fizi. I know you think it's. Unfair to North Carolina to say this qualifier. Roy Williams says I get the fact that there should be a qualifier. Well, I mean, what else is he going to say all honest, but I'm still gonna go back to as much as we talk about what happened for Duke. Let's also acknowledged that as shell shocked is the arena was his shell-shocked as the fans were let's at least keep in mind that part of this is Luke maye ability as a senior that seems so much basketball to come in. And really be a calming presence at a calming force. I I'm giving Carolina credit trae ROY Williams is being honest. The same way cliff Kingsbury was being honest when he said he'd take Cuyler Murray number one overall before they went against Oklahoma. You go out there. You be deferential the other team in there other coach he's celebrating that wind. Just of course, he is. But I'm glad you brought a comparison because as we get closer and closer to the draft young, man. Don't be surprised if that happens. I'm just telling you that. Right. Oh. Let me ask you guys. Oh, because that's why you were there for we wanted you there for the atmosphere of it. So take us inside that that arena when that happened. Just just how quiet it wasn't just what was going on. You know, it was so loud and so- raucous leading up to it. I don't know that I've ever really experienced what that atmosphere was leading up to the moment and the Cameron crazies where everything that there's ever been promised times a thousand. I mean, just standing in it and seeing it it was like a wave of emotion coming into the game. And then you have this moment. And no exaggeration. There was a lady behind us. Did just kept saying oh my God. Oh, dear God. Oh, dear God over and over again. And it started it really loud. And then it got to quite like a whisper. It was like she'd seen a family member go down. And that's what it felt like silence in the Zayed's in the room was palpable. Like the room just felt gross in that moment because everybody was. Both sides of the gentleman that was sitting right? Was a Carolina fan. And he even said at the end, he said, this isn't how I wanted to win. I wanted to beat Zion. I think there was a moment for everybody where you're looking at it saying, oh my God. What just happened? And what does it mean? It was hard to just let that be the moment without thinking about what it means moving forward. Yeah. I thought it was interesting. I I was fortunate enough to be at the Alabama LSU game for football this year. And it was a one three match both still in the national. No, humble, humble brag. I've had a good year. But. In that game. At least at the beginning the same environment. I mean LSU death valley it's so famous and the first couple of third downs. When Alabama was out there. They struggled a little bit crowd was able to influence the game. And the team was still competitive at that point before the tide. Turn this one got robbed of even that initial wave of energy just because this happened so quickly and all of a sudden, I know Sean farm was talking about everyone's scrambling from the players to the coaches, but the crowd was scrambling to and try as they might to will themselves back in with a couple of plays stretch. Duke was never able to string together enough plays to make that at all viable. So it was really weird. It was almost kind of a spooky atmosphere because you weren't sure. How to feel you were worried about Zion? You wanted to see the game start to come back. Then you got the news seeing the news of Zion being out for the rest of the game trickle into everyone's phones around the arena was also interesting too. Because that was I think the second deflation point of the night again. The boys are in Raleigh. My son Michael junior Jason Fitz. They were at. The game Duke, North Carolina. So the question now coming out there's five regular season games left in the ACC tournament the NCAA AA tournament as well. So Mike I'll start with you Zion. Williamson should he play anymore. Will he play anymore? I don't think you will play anymore. I mean, you don't. I guess it would depend on the severity of the injury. But for him to go out last night. There's enough of a concern where you wouldn't put him back on the court in a rivalry game. That matters a ton for you and ACC play. It all these things I think being overly cautious. You certainly wouldn't see him for the rest of the regular season. And then you that decisions his to make and I get it. I heard boozer on before saying the Diane's going to be the number one pick no matter what. Well, you're not the number one pick more than likely if you blow out an ACL and are going to be ready to go in for weeks for the first year of your MBA career. I have to imagine that might change some things and with this injury already on his body right now with that as a part of his background. You're at more risk for injury going forward. If you were to step back on the court. So I think that would be the advice. I would give him what he does with his obviously his decision. Yeah. Go ahead Jason. And the other part of it is I'm not willing to say, even if he doesn't play another second of basketball do can't still win a national championship. So I I don't think as much as we want to look at it and say what's ion gonna do? And what's it mean for his teammates? This is still RJ Barrett. I continue to remind everybody RJ bear was the number one prospect in the country coming into this year, not Zion and RJ Barrett. While he didn't have a great night of the defensive end of the floor when they get the adjustments made that they need to make this is not there's no clear cut number one in my mind in college basketball. It's going to be clearly better than Duke even without Zion going into it. So I still think they could win without him. It's a win win for everybody for him to get healthy. Well, listen, they certainly didn't look like they could win without him last night. Obviously, they'll get more adjustments. But I was shocked how they found. No way to do anything without him out there considering as you said, they have all these prospects. And they do have the winningest coach in the history. College basketball. Yeah. Listen, that's certainly a part of it. But I would like it into this. I played an offensive line was Martin and Zack Martin went down in a game protection changes for you. Like, you have this luxury of knowing. All right. We put one guy over there. And he's going to lock down that side of the line. If we have Zion and the pain he's going to lock down a certain area, and we can count on him for x y and z all of a sudden when you've got to adjust to that on the fly, even if you've got other talented first round picks lottery picks on their your role is changed the roles of the guys coming in that don't have as much expected of them, especially on a cheap. Not extraordinarily deep coming off the bench, and they don't have to be with these guys this talented. But when the roles all the sudden change that drastically with a guy off the court in a way that you're not prepared for in that moment, I can understand there being a little bit of a correction period. I mean, I hear you. But Mike, I think it's a it's a little different. I don't think it's apples to apples because an offensive line is so tied together. I mean, that's the most tied together unit on a football team. I don't think it's the same as losing. One of the starting five on a basketball swat. Well, I think it is when it comes to defense trae. I mean everyone's tied together. You saw the amount of guys wide open in the middle of the court for North Carolina on the offensive end in the half court sets like to me that's reliability that's dependability in that spot from a guy who not only, you know, you communicate with you can talk about all that stuff, but you can count on to check people you can count on as a guy..
Anthony Davis Trade Rumors
"One pick not knowing where that number one pick will be and but knowing that the odds are against it being the number one pick overall, would you be willing to make that trade and an overwhelming majority? I wanna say like two thirds of Nick fan said no, I would not make that trade. So I'm a little surprise for a fan base. That's always. He's in on every star player that becomes available and certainly ones that have less realistic ties to New York at least would Anthony Davis. It seems like a possibility that he'd be willing to come to New York, maybe not as much as the Lakers, but certainly it's not out of the realm of possibility that knick fans really have not been overwhelmingly positive when you get into what the actual specifics would be to land a player like him talking to Gordon Damer on the shell Pennzoil performance line. ESPN ninety eight point seven FM in New York here on first and last Michael junior. And Gordon, I I saw the same thing kind of playing out on social media where it seems to be that outcry against something that undermines the idea in the NBA, especially I think when it comes to picks and lottery picks and things near the top. There is such a hesitancy to hold onto them. I only point to the conversation. We had about Khalil Mack in the NFL this year who came over and joined the bears in the offseason. Which is you drafted this position in hopes that he eventually becomes Anthony Davis. Or Khalil Mack? I mean in your mind. I would that be something that you were willing to give up if you were the Knicks that one pick and Kristaps Porzingis for a guy who in New York fans wildest dreams could only hope Kristaps came half of the thing that I brought up was I'd be willing to make that deal. If I make it right now, if I don't know where the number one pick it I don't know where the Knicks pick is going to be. And I don't know when even Chris Porzingis is going to be back playing healthy. So would that uncertainty? Absolutely. I'd make that deal right now. Now, if I knew that poisoning was back it was healthy. And I knew the number one pick was the Knicks pick that they had the number one. They were getting Zion. Well, then maybe I might reevaluate things especially with the uncertainty about Anthony Davis whether or not he would want to come here and sign long-term. So that I would would play a factor into it. But with all the uncertainty it almost feels like the Knicks have done too good a job selling selling their fan base. This idea of hope for the future that some big free agent is going to sign here. When you have an Anthony Davis who amazing the amount of criticisms that I heard about Anthony Davis from Nick fan one of which is well, you know, what he's just never healthy. But wait a second your trading. Kristaps Porzingis who is literally not playing right now because he's hurt and has been hurt quite a bit certainly more. So in recent days and Anthony Davis has been surprising to me that's been the reaction first. And last Michael junior here on ESPN radio talking to Gordon Damer on ninety eight point seven of ninety eight point seven FM in New York for me as a and that's interesting to me that it's so much of this is also tied to the Krista. Off. Because when I've thought about this deal. The perspective is always been the idea that that pick. Well, yeah, you know, obviously, especially in this current lottery system, not a guaranteed number one pick. But I've always thought of it through the lens of man, the golden goose and all this would be on just because he is such a draw. He's such a unique spectacle in his own, right. But if given the choice, I mean, Gordon for you if it came down to whatever version of current Nick players on their plus that pick if you didn't know it was eye on Zion versus Anthony Davis at this point what the reception would be like if the fans had a choice, if you had a choice between one of those players if we were to make it about that and more the pick instead of Kristaps Porzingis and the known commodity already. I think the Knicks fans, unfortunately, have deluded themselves into thinking that pick is I think that that pick is the fact that the Knicks have been this bad. And now have the worst record in the NBA. I think that they think there's much better realistic chance at the Knicks landing the number one pick than they actually do have. I mean, even you know with the new lottery odds. Basically they have an eighty five percent chance of not getting the number one pick which is pretty overwhelming. So I think knick fans have had deluded themselves into thinking while you know, what just because we're bad this year and we've suffered for so long. This is the year. I don't know if it's the realistic odds that they're looking at clearly not, but they have convinced themselves pretty much already that they're getting Zion. And look I love Zion. I'd love for you to watch him forty-one nights a year at the garden. I think it would be fantastic especially for a fan base here in New York that is just start for any morsel of good news. But I do think that they are getting a little worked up, and it's not unusual for knick fans. I've dubbed them always that they are the most delusional fan base in New York, which is saying something considering some the fan bases, but they've already convinced themselves zion's coming. Honestly, Gordon, I can't really blame them after seeing the in the in his cancer failed last night going. Well, is there a more quintessential Knicks moment than in his canter has been ventures coming in trying to so appreciation kissing the logo and then promptly. Air balling, a shot to a chorus of we want kanter's. Well, you know, what maybe he was just showing you don't want guys I can get on board with this tanking thing. If you just give me some playing time, maybe maybe it was an intentional air ball. I don't know if we're we're counting that into the equation that much. He's not been playing because the Knicks want to give some of the younger players a chance, and and certainly most importantly want to continue to lose game. So maybe that was his effort to show you know, what I can play. And we can still lose yours wanna show that you can be a team player. That's very important stuff. "Us on the shell Pennzoil performance line. So much football to get into over the course of the weekend. Obviously the college football playoff on Saturday. Don't forget these Saturday Twitter show that you can watch on the ESPN Twitter handle from three to four PM eastern. Also sunday. That is actually hosted by. I totally self promotion. Hey, you know, what I got to tell the people on the people want the people want if another don't they don't wanna find me anywhere. But they can't find me on Twitter. You can just go out to Twitter on the ESPN handling SEO from three to four pm eastern. We'll get you set for the games Trevor scales. And I are going to be hanging up usually Mike Golic junior joins us. However, the word on the street is that he's going to the game. Instead of hanging out with us. I can't imagine why you some pipe him in like from there with all the technology. We have no, but I can neither confirm nor deny the plan to possibly break into his house and still do it from there. I'm just saying you don't wanna miss it. Because some of us may have his ADT security codes for the house. So there are some plants anything. I'm just saying we'll get into a bunch of football, obviously. But before we get there. I wanna get you caught up on. What is trending? Speaking of the college football playoff. Clemson game is got more interesting. They will officially be without three players that is official now including starting defensive lineman, Dexter Lawrence for the college football playoff semifinals after be samples of double drug tests, also showed trace amounts of a banned substance. He did a no, no. And now he has to sit out this kind of as expected if you look through this Dabo Swinney said they were preparing as if this was an injury. He wasn't practicing with the team. The defensive line is the strength of clemson's football team. That is without a doubt. A fact if tons of good players up there, Albert Huggins. Now's Pinkney they'll be able to fill in admirably. They're not as good as Lawrence. He's going to be a first round pick. He's a disruptor. He gets in the backfield is stats dole. Those things for you. He makes a living. He can't camps in the backfield. I know you love to put up a Ted Betsy that is what he does he sets up ten in the backfield. And he disrupts offense is so this does give Notre Dame a little bit more leeway. Upfront to potentially slither out a victory is it like a like a pop-up tent like you just and then the tents up or do you have to like actually get the little sticks? Thinking he gets up there quick and just toss. Okay. That's right. And I do think you're right. It does make the match up more intriguing. I want this match to be intriguing. I feel like unfortunately for Notre Dame. And for the golic's this is strength on strength with Notre Dame trying to run the ball, and they've done that very effectively this year, but they're doing against the defensive line, even without Dexter. Lawrence is still has multiple first rounders on the line. They shut the rundown. This game to me is gonna come back down to Ken Brandon wimbush find a way to win the game four Notre Dame. I don't think they can. I think Clemson wins in Clemson wins going away. So, you know, I think this is this might make it a little closer. But I think Clemson wins is in big big big fashion. Because up front Clemson defense. They're the monsters. Yep. That's about what I expected them to look like, well, you mentioned coach Sweeney earlier. This is what he said about preparing this week. We we got a bunch of good players and Albert Huggins is is a is a co starter for us. Anyway. I mean, he he's a great great talent. And I don't have any doubt that he'll he'll step into a great job for us as well. Now's jordan. So just more opportunity for those guys no different than any other position. If you have an injury or somebody can't play for whatever reason, you ex guy ready. So as a football coach, that's that's all we can control when that's that's how we've gone into the week. So you know, we hope to hear something today. But we've prepared fully. To go without him. The cupboard is full for the nation's elite programs. Clemson is one of those. It's not as simple as plug and play. But it is as simple in some ways as plug and play it isn't hopefully we'll be able to make enough of a difference for Notre Dame. You have some time. Push the ball down the field. Open things up a little bit. You just going to be harassed.

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson played a high-stakes match that was simply missing good golf
"Channel eighty. We bring in now golf writer for ESPN and ESPN dot com. Bob Harris was at the match today with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson in Las Vegas. And he joins us on the shell Pennzoil performance line. It's Aaron and Ari if you had to give today a grade overall from the experience to the golf to the whole nine yards with this. I ever pay per view golf match the day after thanksgiving. What grade would you give it? Well, I would probably give it a b minus. You know, I I happen to think that the match was a good idea that a lot of the negatives that will flip fourth or somewhat unfounded. But you know, at the end of the day for it's a really really work and be good golf has to be really good at. I didn't think it was that good tiger struggle for good. The today certainly the front line still had a chance to really build a lead on them because tiger was struggling. And and and wasn't able to do it. You know, the course played a little harder than I expected. You wanted. These guys make fun of birdie chances for eagles, and you know, have their this up and down back and forth. And it didn't really happen. Like that. There was some drama at the end, certainly. But you know, at the end, I think what you saw was to champion guy who won a lotta tournament really fighting hard to not lose. Either guy wanted to lose their wanna came down to the end, and they were trying with all they had, you know, and and obviously took it to four extra holes. And you know, I I know for fill this was day. He really really put a lot into trying to accomplish this and was able to get it done. Do you think Bob there's an element of you know, these are big competitors? And and just the mentality the psychology of getting ready for a major too so different. I mean, do you think that's why the Gulf was was was the way that it was just because you can't lie to yourself in that regard. Well, I think that's certainly part of it. And also, you know, look, I'm not making excuses for them. But in Tigers case, no, I don't think he was prepared is is he would normally wants to be you know, he he had a long season this year come back from back surgery. Played a lot of golf and after the Ryder Cup. He shut it down for a while. Understandably so still tiger really really been the last three weeks. We're sort of trying to gear up, you know, for something like this with all that on the line. And you know, that means, you know, you're kind of just getting back involved a couple of weeks ago, and then you're testing. Wittman and then you're working on your short game. And and and you know, I'm not sure it was just all it was just all there for tiger. You know, I just don't I still don't think that he he quite had everything that he needed. And you know, he didn't practice at this venue as much as spill did. And you know, again, I just think that's part of it. You know, it's a long year. And and he wasn't gonna go overboard getting ready for for one tournament. And yet, I think we saw some from them. Harry is our guest ESPN senior golf writer was in Las Vegas at the match between tiger and Phil today, which fell one for nine million dollars. Bob, you are one of only a few hundred people who is allowed on the grounds. So just kind of take us through your day. What what was it like getting in there? How much does what kind of stories can you tell from being able to actually physically be at this event, which was not open to spectators? You know, I was actually surprised how fluid the process was, you know, this is not a place that that hold public events or or even big events. It's a very exclusive and private golf course. It's meant for high rollers, you know, people who come here, you know, and want to play golf and are spending a lot of money to do it. And you know, there's there's some infrastructure. That's required to put out a golf that you know, when you're gonna have TV and media, and then, you know, even though the the number of spectators was relatively small a couple of hundred, you know, it's still you gotta park, and you gotta have you know, concessions, and they had some hospitality. And and you need to have you know, restrooms and all that sort of stuff. So, but from my standpoint, I thought it was fine. I mean and the atmosphere was good. I mean, they were these were clearly golf fans, and and they crowded around all the all the green. Liens and all the holes. And and you know, and that's frankly, this is why there was no there was no admittance for general spectators because they just they couldn't accommodate the places not equipped to hold that many people. And and obviously you've got it that have parking form. You gotta have this. Ability to be able to have that many people. And but I thought I thought they handled it well for the amount that they had and what they were

"Shell Pennzoil performance line. Gordon? Good morning. And I gotta ask you the question. I know we're going to get into the Knicks. Great win last night. All the great things to come for that franchise based off a one game sample size. But I gotta ask you. I one of the big most biggest most controversial calls involves a New York rival in the Boston Red Sox. We had that catch interference on. The Mookie Betts play in the outfield off what could have been a Jose altuve eighty two run shot. You've seen the play. Was it catch interference? You know, what to be quite honest, Mike. I've watched it ten times could go either way, you know, we always talk about bringing in replayed all these sports to fix the agree. Just call they one that is clearly blown that everyone at home can see you can watch that play ten times. And I don't think you can definitively say whether or not that was a home run or not now, I know Joe west is that a lot of baseball fans are not fans of the fact that he made the call makes it seem worse. But I've watched the bunch already a watched it last night at no point that I say for sure absolutely life on the line that that was either a home run or fan interference. It was. It was right on the edge enough to the point where I don't understand how we don't have a better system. I know a lot of people attacked the strike zone and say we could have a robot doing this. But I find it hard to believe that we can't institute some sort of technology something near that outfield wall that would allow us to say this definitively. I mean, hell I can know where every ball hits on a tennis court. How can I not know where a ball is or where the plane is in the outfield and a major league baseball. And that's a great point. About tennis tennis. They do it instantaneously. Right. And they know it right away, how about incentives technology. How about just building a fence? How about building a normal fence where if you're sitting in the stands, and you stand up you're not in the field of play. I mean, it doesn't really take much for the fan to interfere in that situation because they're right on top of the wall. So I mean, maybe just build a wall that is actually a high enough. So that the fan can't even reach in there. And I think it's not even the guy in the orange shirt. If you've seen the video, I think it's the guy who stretching next to him that makes it seem like, especially if you're on the field to play your Joe west makes it seem like yes that Dan definitely reached over the wall. But I don't know that he did or he didn't exactly you create enough of that appearance. And all of a sudden enemy is a three minute fifteen second video review that goes along with that. But we know call on the field ends up like in a lot of sports being the the one that you have to go with Gordon Damer ESPN ninety eight point seven with us on the shell Pennzoil performance line. You can hear him take over the top of the hour in New York here. Five AM eastern right here on ESPN radio. And a Gordon the shame of it for that. Now as you have a series that could be defined by this one play. No one's going to be shocked. If the Red Sox go on and win but in major league baseball. I forget that you have like you said Joe westjet, these unpire almost Ritchie villain status. Yeah. Certain regards they become characters in their own right, which I debate the merit of for the sport. But now you've got a series then unfortunately could be defined by a play. Like, this is the SOX take a three one lead. Well, I mean, the other thing to keep in mind though, that happened in the first inning, right? I mean the the Astros had their operative. They had a lead in the game. After that. It was the first inning of the game. And while it's a big call. And it would have certainly changed the way that game takes place from that point forward. It's not like it happened in the eighth inning. Right. You only you're down to your final. Couple of outs. The Astros had plenty of opportunities to to come back from that disappointing results, and we're not able to do it and actually had a lead late around of the game. So if the Red Sox do end up closing this series. Out without being able to go to Chris sale and game five and how now having to rely on David price. I will not be all that surprised me Red Sox were the better regular season team. And I think that if this does turn out to be the case that the Red Sox go on to win this series. But at least for one night opening night for Nick fans, good for them that they have something to be smiling about it really is sort of reverse engineered version of what we see with the rest of the NBA where the beginning of the season is one we kinda sleep walk through. So the Knicks the playoffs are right now. I mean, look I'm not saying that the regular season is meaningless for them. "Shell Pennzoil performance line as we continue to monitor games Adrian Martinez with a interception in north western territory with north western now has the football at midfield trailing twenty to fourteen as the huskers look for their first win of the season and Tennessee with a nineteen seventeen lead on number twenty one in that game on SEC network later on tonight. We will get a chance to watch Wisconsin taking on Michigan again in an elimination game. You could say for either of those two teams that's on ABC seven thirty PM eastern in Ann Arbor. Chris Fowler will be on the call with Herbie. He's called from the game day bus right now here on the shell Pennzoil performance line. Get to have another Colorado guy here. Hey, Chris O ARA. Talking about the bus. The afternoon. Anything you want anything? Feisty after that, isn't it? Talked about the Vanderbilt Florida Bela Georgia Tech, those players have been added about three times today. So I I came into our our all bus your I don't like to start a fight with the Bill. Take a swing it. One of those afternoons at four if you do take your car, please have somebody role on it because it will go viral. We'll do that. We'll have several phone standing by the captured video Georgia Tech do tied at seven nine minutes to go in the third, and we mentioned the Vanderbilt Florida fracas there what else has stood out. So here in these these new games look at Ohio State defensive questions continue to linger there for the buckeyes. Yeah. I think the guys forty setting it up asleep watch Saturday, essentially for some teams Florida classic sandwich. Gamble of animals, pretty good team. Just throw in there and win it in the second year as we're finding out while state the defensive problems do continue. I don't think they were terribly inspired against Minnesota. So sick hours. They were talking about sexist Baylor being a potential game. Miami potentially sleepwalking gives Virginia on the road. Today. So noted in Pittsburgh would be another game yet. So we're going to see which seems mature enough to sort of get the job done when they should win. But are in situations. Tennessee now leading Arbor it's been it's been one of those afternoon. So far. Got Michigan taking on Wisconsin. Let's look ahead to that one a little bit. You got Michigan. It's wheel off five straight since the season opening loss to Notre Dame. And it was -sconsin team that frankly, probably isn't as good as maybe the preseason publications would have had you believe especially on defense. What's kind of the the the the key aspect of this one tonight that you're going to be looking at guys are injured, especially that was constantly. That's one reason why they spent less effective rushing the passer covering the past is because they've been hampered by injury. You've got louder milk directs player out a bunch of guys in the secondary. Gordon, nicked up Dakota Dixon, their their leader back there the safety. He's a game time decision. Not to go. Other safety is suspended for the first half retargeting last week. So they're very sent back there. Jim Leonard the NFL player who's coaching and the defense coordinator he's gonna count on guys that have not played much TV at all special teamer experience. He got some talent. But it's not a cover initiative passed. Just got more productive by the week. Ship had us getting more and more comfortable with y'all. They eight they're super successful downfield shots. Just don't do it very much Michigan. So we'll see if this is the nicer they opened up the offense a bit or if the chilly conditions. It turns out being another Wisconsin. Brian theft. Who knows but I I think the players are their Michigan. Patterson's accurate, Christy guys were out in Eugene. If you weeks ago for that Oregon lost to Stanford a game that they absolutely should have one. They're sitting there right now with that being their only loss in the season Washington coming in also with one loss it feels like a playoff elimination game. What's your take on the ducks? I feel like that even with that game in prime time. A whole lot of people still don't know much about them. And they they probably still first and foremost think of the chip Kelly Mark Helfferich version of Oregon, well, judging Oregon very differently if they haven't had collapsed several times in that loss to Sanford. I thought they did the helluva job rebounding gutting loss, they could've academy echo carryover effect. But they responded very well. I send it you Oregon as the team that was dominating Samper before they Cuomo the ball away and lost the game that way, I I'm not skeptical about their ability to be productive with Justin. Because I saw on personnel talented. He is and you use the complete package of quarterback. They're better than people expect on defense. I think that first of all has has done some very positive things. And if he plays for him at Oregon, but it's a major tasks it's a nasty gamble rivalry. I think both teams. Flying around and extremely said you have to lose your playoff elimination. A massive. Additional damage organ already having a conference loss. College game down ESPN radio the ESPN app matching Brad Edwards and Trevor manager with Chris Fowler, Christie seems like Alabama's the rabbit and everybody else's chasing. If the playoffs started today, which team do you think would have the best matchup against Alabama? Good question. Rams. Maybe. Colorado state. Not to call it a state, man. I don't like to make jokes about that. Let's be real the NFL is far different level of uneven. Elite elite dominated college teams of people think that album people on Sundays is they're there greeding, but I think that they're at a different level. And I think that obviously is you know, every week they're explosiveness on offense is what sets this team apart. That's why they're the hardest Alabama team. But I I would have to say it's not a is. Georgia has been the best defensive preventing big plays. I think they've only allowed nine twenty yard plays this season. So it's not it's not a stretch to say that they make it to see that game. Atlanta Georgia believes they can impose their will. And they're running most people would have to make plays. You have to look like we did in the first half to defend a lot better than in the second half. Is it up to sixty minutes? So I I'd like Alabama senses gets anybody. But if you're to use imagination and imagine somebody take down from me with Georgia at this point, Chris you had Notre Dame last week. Obviously an impressive performance, especially that second half average tech. How good you think the Irish are? Very good. Very impressive book. Obviously gives them a dimension. They haven't had before I think they'll I think they'll get healthier coming back to get back and running back to a good rotation about I think their defense travels. I think it was a massive win for them. Not. But just kinda road situation with Brian Kelly seems a typically fallen flat they to handle their business, but you know, their their schedule got less imposing beside if they're getting the season, it's still tough. But that's the order state. Syracuse is your game. If people thought that's gonna be a cold weather game at Yankee Stadium is that blooms something that they better be very very careful about. But I I think they're very capable of getting the twelve and if they do that there there are lots of during the playoffs. But you know. Wisconsin. And Michigan tonight, seven thirty eastern. We'll be watching that one. And enjoy the buffs later on. Thank you. Chris NFL sticker cows game to ESPN radio and the ESPN app. Matchstick Brad Edwards and Trevor Mattis Florida's just pull off the fake punt here is that what we just saw the punt snap. And what they saw was that the Vanderbilt punt return team earlier in this game had been bailing out before the punt in order to set up a big return. So what they did was the punter Florida. Caught the snap looked waiter t pause and saw that Vanderbilt punt return team, bailout. And he just followed them down the field. Now, there was a lot of chippiness afterwards. Because Vanderbilt wasn't happy about that. There was a huge scrum. My must have been more than a dozen players pushing against each other at the end, nobody's going down the with the whistles blow and then at the very end at the the whistle. Some Florida player hit some Vanderbilt player in the chin and rocked his head back. There was no flag, which I thought was a mistake by the officials. So that chippiness is still going on twenty one. Thirteen lead. Vanderbilt over Florida five minutes to go in the third quarter. Vanderbilt obviously contending with the Gators here in the SEC east who else is a pretender in a contender. Skill or luck for real or for show favorable schedule or team of destiny, it's time to find out. Pre tender and who is a contender presented by Dr Pepper. New York Giants waive young QB Davis Webb in shocking move
"The New York Giants cutting Davis Webb. Now Gordon, I know we. I heard on the national side, but locally was the talk is serious last year when we had UI manning getting benched and the giants talking about eventually taking saquon Barkley at two in the draft. This idea that Davis Webb could seriously be the quarterback of the future. Was that a serious conversation around New York? It was not just fans of brought that up. It was media members that brought that up. There were people who consider themselves insiders who felt like no Davis Webb has a legitimate chance to be ally. Manning's era parent, which was strange because even at the time it was said that ally manning was going to play the expectation barring injury for at least another couple years. You're talking about a guy who would be going into twenty twenty without really seeing any significant time who you drafted in the third round and still then maybe he might be the apparent. But no, that was absolutely brought up as some by some that that was a reason why the jets were not gonna take a quarterback in the first round of the draft that they like Davis Webb and they thought of him. He was a third round pick. And that's not something to sneeze at so. But no, I never worked out that way and it was always kind of puzzling. I think to a lot of us that that Origene that did not draft. A guy is now going to put this faith in this guy, especially when he did not have good preseason this year. I mean, anytime you, you know, when he really got a bit of a chance in the preseason that first preseason game where he got a significant run, he was not good. So I think that the news is still kind of stunning that they decided to cut them essentially decided to go with the thirty year old Alex Tanny over him when he was just a third round pick a year ago. But the I know that talk about him at least within some circles in the media was out there talking to Gordon Damer on the show Pennzoil performance. Does that make you at all hesitant looking back now, even as great as we all think saquon Barkley is going to be this idea that in a year worthy quarterback class was considered so stellar and understanding. It looks like that talent is going to drop off in the coming years. When the guys we're seeing coming out of college. Does that give anyone pause now, looking at the fact that maybe even with a great running back giants could have passed on a quarterback that could succeed succeed, Eli manning that narrative is already well established in this town. Yeah. I mean, people are already hopping on that bandwagon might be the only exercise some people get, but that is the that is the exercise they're getting right now is jumping on that bandwagon because that's one that you can easily foresee right saquon Barkley could go out this year and as a running back, have a sensational season. But if the giants don't make the playoffs, go deep into the playoffs another year off the calendar for thirty seven year old ally manning and in the very same stadium, you have this young twenty one year old quarterback who very well could be making strides to show that he is the real deal and at least so far, right. We're talking about all these quarterbacks taken in the first round. He's the only guy that's going to be starting week one of those guys, all these guys that we talked about and we're dreaming all these scenarios before the draft Sam darnold. The only guy and he's still playing in this town with the along with the, you know the jets facing off against the giants who decided, no, we're not gonna go, rebuild. We're going to do quick fix. We're going to plug in a running back who's certainly going to be very talented now that that narrative is certainly out there. Well established and people are just looking for more and more evidence to kind of support it right

"Appear pierre the shell pennzoil performance line and discussing this before it's going to be interesting what the reception is like for this because i will continue to argue that we get more and more of an outcry from fans the way the game is changed we talked about this with the catch rule the other day but in the ways that the game has gotten more complicated or more cognizant of the health and injury risks and the way that nickel has become more of the personnel package of choice on defense and you're getting more sub packages and there's more areas where opening up the game using some of the college influence has changed it and taking it away from the violent brutal gladiatorial sport that it is in certain regards and it hasn't always made fans overly thrilled and so i wonder aloud and think that there's probably a market for this kind of football the john gruden is talking about now now whether this approach shows up on the field in a way that takes offense of war defense of football back to a different time period is one thing and it's one thing i don't know if it's as likely john gruden the guy that still says we're trying to excite the players we're going to be on the cutting edge all of these different things i have to imagine that he is still been around as a broadcaster like he said around young quarterbacks and young players coming into the league enough to look at this and say yeah i know what we need to do i know how to spin the accident owes forward but it's that approach of all of the things we know and really a lot of the stuff that we've seen as an advent from the league once chip kelly hit out here which is taking better care of nutrition health and recovery diet and exercise sweep studies all of the different ways.
