"Allen. Here are the top local stories we're following for you this hour. We are learning more this morning about what may have caused the pilot of a small plane to crash into a Montgomery county transmission tower last week. For his part, the pilot says he was flying too low in foggy conditions. The national transportation safety board agrees in its preliminary report that the weather was a factor. Pilot who was flying this airplane that crashed last Sunday Night and gave this bird was flying in really difficult and very challenging weather conditions. WTO's Dan ronin, who holds a commercial pilot's license and is a transportation expert, says the report shows that well before he made the approach to Montgomery county ear park, the pilot was having difficulty with navigation with air traffic controllers trying to get him back on course, and then as he started the approach. He was at the minimum overcast ceiling of what you could expect to get into that airport safely and legally. Ronan says it appears he got too low, ultimately hitting the transmission tower. Shayna doolin WTO news It usually takes the NTSB about a year to issue a full report. Metro wants to return to automated train operation and automated doors next year. If the Washington metro rail safety commission approves, since the red line crash at four totten in 2009 that killed 9 people, metro's train operators have manually stopped and started trains. Metro says all safety concerns after that crash have been addressed and returning to automation would lead to an increase in safety and prevent red light overruns. If it proved metro plans to begin testing, the automated system on red line trains next fall. With a rise in anti semitism and violence against Jews across the country, a new report commissioned by Virginia governor Glenn youngkin lays out recommendations to fight the hatred. The commission to combat anti semitism calls for amending Virginia's hate crime statutes to include the phrase ethnic identity. That would allow prosecution for targeting a victim because he's Jewish or believed to be Jewish. It recommends training police departments on identifying hate crimes and calls for Virginia state police to maintain a publicly available hate crime database. In classrooms the report calls for expanding teaching the history of anti semitism and the Holocaust Jewish American heritage month would be discussed in class and Virginia schools would be required to recognize Jewish holidays. "Quote today It is 1103 on this Saturday, September 10th, 72° raining already in spots, showers moving into the rest of the area through the night. Thanks for joining us. I'm Shayna doolin, the top local stories we're following this hour and investigation is underway in northern Maryland, comes after 5 people were found dead in a home. The dead include three children a man and a woman. They were found in a home in Elk mills near the Delaware border. This is a tragic and terrible day for county and community. Cecil county sheriff Scott Adams. All the deceased appear to have suffered gunshot wounds. Now semi-automatic handgun was located near the deceased adult male. Sheriff's officers investigators are currently on scene and actively investigating the incident. He says four schools in the area were put on alert as the shooting unfolded, though he says investigators don't think there's any threat to the public. The two adult victims are now being identified as Marcus Milligan 39 years old and Tara Milligan 37 law enforcement say the two are the parents of the three other victims kids ages 1411 and 8. A fairfax county man has been arrested accused of exposing himself to several women near the Washington and old dominion trail. Police say 42 year old Juan Rodriguez of herndon was arrested Thursday for warrants from another state. They were able to link him to what happened there on the trail last month. He's facing three counts of indecent exposure is being held without bond. We'll get more details on the arrest from county police on Monday. Well, a 13 year old is under arrest, police say he shot at a group of middle school students walking home from school. It happened near springhill lane in Spring Hill drive in greenbelt on Wednesday. "You're not. Come on now. Very excited. Head of the county school system and new principal Porsche Barnes trying their hardest to get a group of teens pumped about their first day earlier. It was a bit easier at the new Cherokee lean elementary school campus where little kids, sporting masks, eagerly went inside. Norma Davis bringing her four grandkids says about the county's mask requirement. I think it's a good thing. She says it'll protect the kids from bringing the virus home. The CDC says transmission is low in the county now, galton acknowledged the dropping numbers, says an announcement on changes to that mandate will likely come later this week. Shayna doolin will be GOP news. Today's hot and humid weather has caused district officials to activate the city's heat emergency plan. It goes into effect when temperatures or the heat index in the district is 95° or higher. The city opens cooling centers for residents where they can seek relief. If you're in the district, you can call three one one to find places where you can go and we'll be checking the forecast in just a couple of minutes. It feels like it is 90° already in Washington. Coming up after traffic and weather as more data centers pop up in one local county, some residents say one of them is affecting their quality of life. It's 1207. Here's a highlight from Sean Fraser, the federal chief security officer for akhta on the zero trust cyber exchange, presented by Cara soft. So I think it's a no accident that the identity is the first pillar of zero trust. If you think about where we are functionally with regards to attackers who are trying to get access to systems, a lot of the low hanging fruit ends up living in our identity systems. So it's one of the first things we got to show up

"Moment Hey thanks for joining us I'm Shayna doolin Alicia abelson is our producer and coming up House minority leader Kevin McCarthy says he will not be cooperating with the House committee investigating the January 6th attack Also House Democrats are one step closer to voting on an election rights bill And Police video of a deadly encounter in Silver Spring I'm dick giuliano It's 1131 The January 6th select committee investigating the attack on the capitol is now seeking testimony from House minority leader Kevin McCarthy but he says he's refusing to cooperate in a statement tonight McCarthy says quote it is with neither regret nor satisfaction that I have concluded not to participate New York Times congressional reporter Luke broadwater joined me earlier to talk about it He said that he had nothing else to add to the committee He called the committee illegitimate He accused them of abuse of power And of being politically motivated So this will bring us now to a showdown between the top Republican the House minority leader and the January 6th committee WTO's Mitch Miller has more on why the committee wants to hear from McCarthy The committee wants to talk to the GOP leader about what he knows that took place with The White House before during and after the insurrection In a letter sent to McCarthy the chair of the panel congressman Bennie Thompson points out that McCarthy has acknowledged having a heated conversation with former president Trump as the rioting at the capitol took place Thompson also points to communications McCarthy had with former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and the letter notes that McCarthy appears to have changed his tone since stating that the former president bears responsibility for what happened The committee is requesting McCarthy's testimony as it has with two other GOP lawmakers who have declined to cooperate On Capitol Hill Mitchell Miller WTO P news Meanwhile we're learning that former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany set down Wednesday with investigators from that committee McEnany appeared before the committee virtually CBS News was the first to report her meeting with a panel She was subpoenaed along with former Trump aides Stephen Miller and other White House employees Her summons largely focused on false statements she made promoting baseless claims of voter fraud While there are some movement tonight in the house on a voting rights bill the house has just voted to pass a rule along party lines that will allow for a vote on the freedom to vote John R Lewis act tomorrow the legislation combines two bills the Senate's freedom to vote act and the house's John Lewis voting rights advancement act If the bill passes the house tomorrow it will head to the Senate for consideration passage of the rule comes as President Biden has been pushing fellow Democrats to come together to overhaul the filibuster so they can then override Republican opposition in the Senate And to that end President Biden is supposed to be meeting privately with Senate Democrats tomorrow at the capitol to talk about changing the filibuster rules in the Senate Democrats are struggling to get everyone on the same page about really blowing up the filibuster Meanwhile the Senate's top Republican is calling President Biden's voting rights speech he gave earlier this week quote profoundly unpresidential Mitch McConnell also says the president was elected to unite and not divide the country I did not recognize the man at the podium Yesterday McConnell is threatening harsh consequences if Senate Democrats change those rules regarding the filibuster Coming up on WTP.
