"There are currently fourteen worldwide wide student developers but current CEO Jim Ryan has of course suggested they may acquire more as they did with insomniac we Sunni for more information about leading departure the situation surrounding it because it seems so sudden what that may mean for the company going forward we haven't heard back as of this time recording but in between when we first posted that story when it was first announced end when recording games industry dot. Biz reported that Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia President to Sushi Morita also also retired yesterday the same day Ash Laden his successor has not been named but SIS deputy president and CFO because he coup Takeda has since taken on some of his corporate director duties so couple of accidents. It's a mass exodus of people up. No I WANNA put it in context of some of the other stuff that's happened at Sony throughout the last year and especially as we're leading up to five but that's really the big topic to me one. What do you guys think this means for. Sony and the next year the next five years you know having laden who's been a part of the PS four and such a major way departing right before the presumed ps five roll up starts to begin. I mean I I think that's one way of looking at it. I think it's also so a lot of people are finishing the job on ps four and saying goodbye to that I mean I think it's like it's if they had quit quit a few months into the PS four. I'd be worried if they'd quit a few months into the PS five. I'd be worried but I think that departing the company towards the tail end of console life cycle feels like the right thing when you do feels natural. It feels like they're handing the reins off to the next generation. I mean this is you can get in on the ground floor of something. That's going to last for the next five six years or you can just close close the door on the accomplishment of shipping one of the best selling video game systems of all time so I think there is a tendency to spend this news as a negative and I definitely did some of that in my own head Ed on the same page you can look at this like this is them closing a chapter tremendously successful chapter which is different than something like don metric when he left the xbox brand for Zenga left after a very tumultuous launch and you know him putting his foot in the mouth a lot and what it kind of seemed like you know maybe setting the course down the wrong path for what led to a pretty rocky outcome for the xbox one's overall sales or even the the end of this generation you know it picked up a little bit but this is a very different story there this is Shaun Laden saying goodbye to the NFL console life life cycle or everything's on he'll be one of the other and it's so hard like I always say you likely do not you. You probably probably know about twenty percent of what you think you know about what goes on inside of a company right. I haven't worked there or don't work there and that goes for us to like I don't we can only only speculate on what's happening because like you said there's not really any visible fires right like we it's easy to assume this is a bad thing but it it could be a really good thing. It could be a really positive thing. It could be terrible thing like we just Kinda. Don't know and it's not really worth immediately assuming the worst so I would say it is out of the ordinary canary for somebody to work for that long for one company in thirty two years in a cutting edge technological industry like this like. That's people around a lot. It's extremely common especially with how oh sort of kind of games are structured. I mean Sony's sort of a different animal because it's a consumer electronics company first and then you know a global company and things get shuffled shuffled around a lot and it's I mean it can be hard to gauge that but yeah I mean wishing the best you do you think we can get to what Laden's future no way. Do you think this will have any sort of major impact we might see on the PS five. I I for one thing. There's obviously the studios are probably already working on the game. They're going to be working on for years. I five those plans are all in motion. There are other several heads of Sony Interactive in general that are obviously steering the ship as well. I don't think it on the surface will mean a tremendous amount launch and I think with really high up. Executive position leadership changes like this at least in my perspective you I don't generally see the effects of it for until years down the line and often you don't realize the effects that they had until years after that when you can kind of look look at everything in context and go oh this person left and then there was sort of this shift towards a different direction right like we're not going to just like see things change like he him leaving who'd have very very real and probably will have a significant impact on something. It's just going to be very very hard to tell from the outside until much farther down the line. When we start seeing things actively happening in in our hands yeah even pass that when we have context on those thing no I'm with you guys in the the ball is already rolling. NPS Five and I don't I don't really know what what could change between now and then because we don't have any concrete information about what it is right now calling it. A PS five is a is a pretty much the healthiest guest we have. I do think something's interesting. Is that the you know game. Awards last year was sort of this amazing moment in in in our industry where for the first I like the council wars got put aside and we had reggie fees. May We had Shawn Layden and we had xbox Phil Spencer now to three of those people have departed. Reggie went on to become. He's giving college lectures now which is pretty awesome so I don't know maybe John can teach a night class of like that'd be pretty cool. I what's interesting about Reggie's departure as it. He didn't immediately go somewhere else you know don metric went to Zinger and made a ton of money and and then disappeared Reggie retired and he's getting into like some local politics stuff and he's also teaching if Shawn Layden goes to Nintendo then I think you can probably say oh things weren't great at Sony but if he retires or he goes to teach a class somewhere then you can probably go like he just just Kinda sunsetted was an awesome career so I think if you immediately went to a competitor there'd be like what he did. It would add an interesting dynamic to because right now. We don't know oh any bit of Laden side of the story. We have that playstation tweet not leading being like. I found a great opportunity and I'm going to that or spend more time with my family. I I WANNA do that. There was anything on his t shirt. That could give clues. He's going next master chief so anyone's gallery nothing. I wouldn't wouldn't put too much into it but it is curious. It'll be very interesting to see Laden side of it and if he says I'm going to academic Reggie or I'm going to work at Stadia. Sr Greg Miller sort of hypothesize possibility it that will really add an interesting facet to me. one thing. I did want to talk about though is what this means for for. Sony on a spokesman level because Sean was the closest thing they had to a figure. I don't think he had the same prominence or the sort of cachet among fans says like Phil Spencer does currently for the xbox things or Reggie did notoriety for Nintendo fan but trial was the closest they had. Do you think we're going to see them continue to move away from having a public face. The state of plays are faceless completely. Do you think they'll try to find a replacement with whoever this new person may be. Do you think they'll try something yeah. Do you think they need that this. This is such a weird year because it's like they didn't have any three yeah and they're still tremendously powerful. incredibly popular selling consoles through con constantly stay to play doesn't have anything like that could use something like that. Maybe I think that works for you know what Nintendos been doing but on the same page like Shawn Layden had a tremendous stage presence and having him come out and like hearing him say good evening like during e-3 every year. There was like something like you gotta chill he did he did. He had a great stage presence. You knew he cared. He had this little smirk where he knew surprises were around the corner. There was something wonderful and magical about that and I do hope that doesn't go away in the same way I don't. I don't want the spectacle of three to go away at all. I do think that the state of play is fantastic vehicle for information to video games out to sort of like compartmentalize a bunch of announcements that wouldn't fit individually but I do think they need somebody somebody and especially you can't you can't announce playstation five in a state of play like you can't roll that out. You need somebody to take the stage age. You need a salesman or saleswoman. You need somebody you know you need the Red Reggie pulling the the thing out of his pocket here to kick ass and take names. You Need Phil Spencer coming coming out and saying like we've listened and this is what we're doing you know like this. This is the kind of thing that that's that's where that has to go at least at a little bit the beginning because they're going to have to elevate elevate somebody so on the one point one hand yes having a human being at the front of your massive. Global Corporation does humanize it quite a lot but on the flip side having human being who is a free to depart at their own will and go do other things whenever that happens but like are the rats jumping ship what's going on over there is that is that canary in the coal mine like it's just all the animal animal like we wouldn't be having this conversation if Shawn's role had been entirely behind the scenes which historically is is. I feel like what how business tends to operate. The Chairman of a company normally is probably a bit behind the scene like most industries that make products don't have podcasts about them. Mike this one it's kind of unusual for that to be the case yeah another thing that I do think is interesting at least in the last year or so of Sony's news cycle and the way they've presented the company as they make updates toward the end of the PS four and then prepare for the PS five. They've also been positioning Jim Ryan. WHO's the current I believe the exact title is Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO They've been positioning him a lot with the press. He's been doing interviews in the last year I don't. I don't know if that means. Shawn's departure was something that was building and in the works for maybe a little while but it seems like he may be taking a little bit of that Central Focus Right which is curious to see if the position him the five comes out as the guy we all hear from or they'll have mark cerny. Come out to be like knack three. I would be shocked unless something thing like like we said unless something truly bad happened behind the scenes that we don't know about I would be shocked if this wasn't known internally amongst people for for the last year they probably he was building up to this departure and just they kept it quiet and delayed until they needed to talk about it which is totally makes makes sense yeah and the way the tweet was phrased seem pretty amicable so we probably won't know if this will affect the PS five until the six but sean. You're never on the show while I've been hosting. If you ever WanNa come on now that you're free feel free to come and tell us all your playstation secrets will happily air them or keep them to ourselves. You wrote the story a little earlier today around through some of the biggest points of it basically playstation. Now's price has been reduced so it's now nine ninety nine a month twenty four and ninety nine for three months or sixty dollars per year which is down from one thousand nine hundred ninety four thousand nine hundred eighty nine and ninety nine ninety nine.

"Is cardboards dandies from commun- bay TV show. You are on one that says commun- bang bang. Just got weird. And it's Scott crimen surfing and holding you up while he's surfing. I am a presence in your office lobby. Yes. On that very same show. I did a scene with Sean. Yes. Alan, I did some acting work together. Okay. Very deep. I we I I don't know about you. But I I really pulled back the layers and went really really deep on that role. And you don't know about me. I don't know. I wasn't me when I showed up for that. No. No. No, no. I was. Foreign character. Ran you were so in character. Oh, yes. And I made sure to keep it that way because it would have destroyed the illusion and for anyone who wants to go back and rewatch the episode. And why wouldn't you think about the fact that Allen I had to that point not met? No. And yet the friendship on screen crackles, doesn't it? That's what that's why they call it acting. That's one of the reasons you can weigh in on something sort of back and forth. We've had on the show with Scott in the past which is whether Shawn's role in that episode was what's known as an under five which is did he have five I wonder five line. Oh, I thought you meant five out of one hundred I would say. Would probably would have rated him a little higher than that. Yeah. I think I would have been around a six or seven. Yeah. Scott also posited to me what he imagined the amount of money. He imagined that I made on the show, and it was very high is extremely generous. What he thought people were being paid to go and do what you six or seven..

"No one trust me on it, and I wa. I'm really trustworthy. He away gonna be like trust to now. Yep way you're gonna receive information. He's not going to empathize with her. He's just gonna. Go cool register that page the association. So it's not like he's doing a self any favors even the why that she's take your lighting her position. Good, good, good. Good. Again, you're on. Going really long today. So let's try out this up. So the episode ends the week ends with Moana someone who has had such a big edit so far, someone who's been all over the place. She gets the credit for going home. You know what she eventually decides she's to seek and that she would to leave the game and she tries to quit and had tribe went, what did you think of this whole moment? This whole thing. Well, it's very clear that the tribe did the right thing in not letting quit, like what the flesh chains idle stem was hilarious that if. That the, I really has been enjoying them. I think the tribe it's very, it's Lyda. I like it and he does seem to be strategy focused, but he's sort of doing it in a way that I don't know. There's something about the way he's. Engaging people and evening gauging with the audience in confessionals that shrimp on. Yeah, this like a bit of charisma they're taken by in. So that's that's really fun for locked in that sard fussing auto of the needed to. And then over this bearing a lot of anguish postgame by to be voted out is different experience to having left. Yeah, I agree. And I really do think that speaking about Sam like he's great, but I really think that what we've seen here is Moana sucking a lot of the airtime out of this tribe and now that she's gone, we're going to have to fill fill it with a little with someone else, and maybe that Sam is going to come in and take this spa. But I wanna talk about Shawn's role in all this because I really liked that. She said, no, where tribe let us do a thing. I thought that was really, really good because she wants trying to make sure that I choose trying to spare her the fact that she could be quick that she was actually voted out and be. She was trying to make sure that she that they flushed the auto, I'm, I'm all in on what Sean did in that moment. She made the best of a bad situation which was have friend getting voted out because she had to go home, but she did it with class. She did it in a way that made sure that that crashed an auto. And others thought it was excellent. Yeah, I completely agree. I'm really, really filling strongly Vashon. I think she's doing a great job even the fact that she's managed to align. We've Milan. Is definitely coming from a totally different background, different age group, you know that they will to pot. I feel like that ability to connect on that level really speaks to Sean as well, because if she's able to connect their, I imagine she'd have like pretty good relationships elsewhere as well. God role as well. Like when they when they will walking along and you know, she said, I like, let's spend too much time together. She just exactly she's the one that's of navigating things in the way that things need to be done on a fan of her. I feel like she's coming across like a really strong Playa. She's a big lava threat. Big strategic threaten the fact that she's a barrister in on a champions, tribe on survivor seems to put nobody else. I think that a fuel. Watch this space she's going to do well, I just want to talk a little bit about two more things before we give out the Dante and move onto few questions. One just like a native was doing to page. In the previous episode. They are absolutely hacking the two older women in the tribe. You have not been on that much of a losing streak that your frustrations should be this high, that two people to not just one two people who are coming back to camp because you own, oh, you're voting for Milana or if you not from a, you know that other people are going to vote for you berating Jackie and shine at travel council to let them know that they got the that are going to be next. It's just really bad game play..
