Tommy Lloyd Is the Next Coach at Arizona

"Matt. Norlander is here with me in. Arizona has found shaun miller's replacement deadline when we talked about this after shawn miller was fired. We went through a list of candidates. And i think we sort of settled on the end of the day. I think it's going to be a gonzaga associate head coach. Tommy lloyd or former arizona star current pacific head coach damon stoudamire fast forward to today. It is tommy lloyd. He is leaving gonzaga. He will be the next head coach of the wildcats. Your thoughts. yeah. We have a listen. We have a long time coach in waiting for program legend. Who's been there decades deciding to leave and and and take a job in the pac twelve and It's mike hopkins all over can don't just kidding. But the parallels are actually there will credit an unnamed person. We both know who who made that to made. That comparison this i think is a pretty good higher now. This has been buzzed about. Since before shawn miller got fired. I have talked to a couple of people out for your. Oh quick i get your thoughts on it. There are a couple of people i've talked to. Who will never be not convinced. That tommy lloyd was approached about this like a month ago and basically said we want you to be the next coach in gonna fire shawn miller. I'm not saying that happened. I'm telling you there are people that believe this and this has been wired for a long time now. There were a couple of days here the past couple of days where the search kind of went on a not a pause but they topped the brakes through more interviews. That happened on tuesday. And they did legitimately interview miles. Simon damon stoudamire. Jason terry josh passenger. All these people were interviewed. There's a belief that eric muscleman whose doors to get himself his own new contract which if true or not. I don't think he needed arizona to get paid the way he got paid. But good on him. So

I Am Awake by Dr. Elana Miller

"I am awake by Dr Shawn Miller of Zen. PSYCHIATRY DOT COM? Quote. It is said that soon after his enlightenment, the Buddha passed a man on the road who was struck by the extraordinary radiance and peacefulness of his presence. The man stopped and asked my friend. What are you? Are you a celestial being or God? No, said the Buddha. While then. Are you some sort of magician or wizard again? The Buddha answered no. Are. You Man! No. One my friend. What are you then? I am awake. Joseph, Gold Sane and Jack Cornfield from seeking the heart of wisdom. About a year before I got lymphoma at a strange dream in his dream, I became sick with a terminal illness, and only a short period of time before going to die incidentally. I wrote about this experience only a few months before I was diagnosed. As the end approached I went from feeling credulous, too terrified to inconsolably sad. Much of my life these last few years has been like this dream on December seventeen, twenty, thirteen, I fell asleep in one world when I walked into the ER AT UCLA and why I left a few hours later with the diagnosis of cancer, open my eyes and an entirely different one. Since then I've done the best I could to adjust to my new reality. somedays more successfully than others, but there's always been a part of me. That didn't believe it was real a part of me. That thought at any moment. I might wake up from the nightmare some days press. My eyes closed as tight as I could and for my hands on my chest, and I would whisper. Go Away Tumor. You are not wanted here. As said it quietly, but with such force of conviction of be confused when I opened my eyes, and it was still there, there were moments I wanted to be better so badly. Surprised I cannot cure my cancer with the sheer force of my will was utter humbling to want something like that with every fiber of my being and not be able to have it. Whenever didn't hear me I started to bargain. I promised myself if it ended. I would never make another mistake never again. Be unkind. Never again failed to appreciate the simple pleasures I so. We took for granted before. When that didn't work and I became desperate enough I started to wonder whom I would give my bird into if it were possible for someone else to carry it a stranger, a friend, my own family. After a certain point, the answer was anyone I would've given my illness to one if it would have given me even one moment of relief, and when those fantasies passed I, settle into a routine of learned hopelessness and despair. There's nothing left to believe, but that the problem was me because how can the universe gives such suffering to a person with no remedy or escape? Unless she caused it on the, she deserved it. The bomb. These last few months has not been the depth of the pain rather is persistence when you feel so bad for so long. He started to wonder if you ever felt differently. My past life felt like such a distant memory. I started to doubt I'd ever fell well. I worried I was holding onto a fantasy. All I can remember was a dream. But then miracle of miracles for no over reason I can understand. Last week I woke up, and for the first time in months felt like a relatively normal human, being the dense fog, and my brain had lifted the fatigue pain in my body had almost disappeared. My is sharpened into focus. My head woken up.

"Over the next hour. We got me saying we've asked stepped out over the next hour re will explore the big money issues in the world of sports and talked to some of the biggest players in the industry. Evan. You know, Scott is a busy guy. We love him dearly. So he's gonna come back later on. He's going to be here for the interview has been a talk with San Francisco, forty Niners President Al Guido, he'll be back for that interview. But he stepped off for second. So just the two of us awesome. Looking forward to. First. Let's get into this week's topic. Let's start with some unfortunate news involving original Wildcats basketball, coach, Shawn Miller. According to reports, he pay ten grand per month to de'andre Aiden. This trial is basketball FBI trial continues this week in New York City. I know we're harping on this. But to me, it's kind of a perfect encapsulation of wear college sports, the NCAA where they all exist right now. A couple months ago a year ago. In fact, you know, last February came out reports that that Shawn Miller was paying de'andre Eytan. Right. He vehemently denied it in the school stood by him. He's still employed now over the course of this trial. We've had multiple different recordings in which people have said Shawn Miller was paying Andrei Aiden, including most recently this week one of his former assistance book Richardson's, this is beyond just Christian doctrines. The the agent who the aspiring agent this is one of Shawn Miller zone assistance on a wiretap talking about the ten thousand dollars per month that Shawn Miller was paying eight and it makes it begs the question. What point does Arizona's step in here? Right. It's becoming less and less plausible that everyone around. This thing is lying about his involvement in that. He's the only one telling the truth. It really makes you wonder what more needs before they step in this wiretap is from almost two years ago. So this is a while ago. Oh, Danny eight and played just one year at Arizona. Then was the number one overall pick in the NBA draft, and Sean Miller's again, not the only coach involved here. Right. Will Wade the head coach at LSU who was suspended for LSU's run through the NCAA tournament. He was reinstated recently because he has repeatedly denied any involvement in paying players. He is also, you know, his name comes up on these wiretaps as well as someone who is who interact knowledge of payers players being paid. There's a good column in Yahoo recently about how you know you look at this trial, which is essentially exposing the ugly underbelly of college basketball. I hate to sound like Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca. But you know, all of a sudden there's gambling going on in stablishment. So I just wonder to really quickly. How much do you think the schools new about this? I mean, I it seems clear to me that you know, assistant coaches, obviously. And also head coaches were complicit in you know, what is, you know, a problem that goes a lot deeper I think than just the schools that we have known here. But again, it really makes you know, in this in these trials, the schools are the victims, you know, and it becomes harder and harder to accept the fact that the schools are the victims, the more you understand that the people some of the highest paid or even in some cases, the highest paid employee at those schools has a hand in in in orchestrating. It'll another Downer of story. Stop. He was with the ATP. And now it looks like he is going to step down. So this comes a week after he pled no contest to two felony battery charges from a pretty brutal violent assault last Halloween. He beat up a man his ex wife's friend in front of his pregnant, wife and his kids. It's not the first time that Justin has kind of run into some some violent accusations. But for people out there who don't know he's a former professional tennis player, he's not a huge name. But he's very influential in the tennis world. He was one of three player presentative on the ATP board. He manages Lindsay Davenport. He's a, you know, a coach advisor to ATP player. John is ner. He has a production company called without limits. That is still under contract with the ATP an USDA to create content for them. So he is an influential figure within the tennis world. He's also. Tennis channel commentator one thing. I thought was interesting Michael we heard players speak out. I think for one of the first times, he the tennis world doesn't have a union. Oftentimes, it's rare to have players speaking out on issues like this moving on now to an another happy topic major league baseball. I the attendance is down and this one I do not understand. When was the last baseball game? You went to see was in Detroit. But I wanted to see the Tigers play but just to go out to the park longtime. Yeah. So a you are a rarity right now. Just just a USA today. Ran the numbers, and I'll give one to highlight at the San Francisco Giants one of the best teams in baseball over the past decade or so there everything seventeen percent fewer fans at games in March and April this year versus last year. We've talked on this show about this accusation that a lot fewer and fewer teams are trying to win and they have in the past. Well, if you look at the numbers right now, there may be something borne out that fans. Not as excited about a lot of these teams. Maybe they have been in years past up next on the show. Look who's coming back just in time. Scott Eboni we will speak to the San Francisco forty Niners. President Al Weadock about selling tickets bands in the XFL markets. There's no question some in the markets one might argue that their saturated, and so we have to do a really good job thinking about our value proposition that straight ahead on Bloomberg business of sports. You can follow me on Twitter at big bar sports, and you can follow me at Novi underscore Williams. You're.

Call played in federal court yesterday, basically mapping out that he paid the Andre eight and ten thousand dollars a month to play basketball in Arizona. A lot of folks are on hold for that. Also, if you missed last hour, I mean, I how do I put it except just flat out saying it WWE superstar page was here to talk about fighting with my family, a film based on her family and her and she said that she could that she's fine as you know, her wrestling career is over right as she point out. By the way, that's a big word alert idea at that meeting. And I got three come on. So in all series, though, the your I imagine your schedule is is beginning to calm down after calling nets games and that season's over, obviously. And then. NCWA tournament games. You're you're just you're making some some playoff basketball rounds right now. Correct is up eggs with yourself. Okay. The the nets Philadelphia series in the first round in New York for yes series and went five games. Nets gave him a little scare and the first game. Philly got its act together. Great game for that could have really turned the series into something else. But seventy Sixers held on there. And then blew out the nets and game five all and all really successful season for Brooklyn. Definite moves in the right direction. And now an interesting off season and with TNT, I I gotta sign this Philadelphia. Toronto series, the first two games games three and four on ESPN ABC. And then Greg Anthony Roz Gould on would a and I are back for game five in Toronto next Tuesday, which reeks of being pivotal the game fives or either decisive there either decisive or pivotal. Taught him broadcasting school that if you're gonna say game five you've gotta have either decisive or pivotal. There's no other before there's no other. There's no other it's either decisive or pivotal. There's that's the math. That's the only math. If you get to a game five, and I'm you don't graduate without that vernacular. "Most stimulating talk three things. I think you'd need to know number one sleepy Joe Biden creepy Joe Biden, touchy Joe Biden to call him. He's jumped into the race and his three and a half minute intro. Video is not based on his nine thousand years in politics. He tries calling Trump a racist about the Charlottesville hoax when he claims Trump was Jewish daughter Jewish son-in-law Jewish grandkids gave Nazis cover we played the soundbites in the six our proving it not to be true using his words immediate twists it. But that's what he's running for. Because because so he's basically running on a lie, which is awesome for politician. Second thing, I think you need to know Shawn Miller being accused of paying players a convicted felon, a former agent they played some videotape of him talking to or just regular tape of him talking undercover FBI agents where he says Shawn Miller paid for players. He knows about this. I can call them you pay for. De'andre Aiden these allegations. But it might force Shawn Miller to testify. We'll see third thing. I think you need to know. Oh boy. Here we go. Again. The teachers are on the streets at Tucson read four, Ed. Red for Ed they were out there. Now, they're claiming that we need more money for maintenance maintenance, what it is now maintenance there's going to be ceiling tiles, dropping on your kids heads. We never brought it up last year. But this year, it's important. Nobody's fault for this crap. Nobody's falling for this crab. It's all about getting Democrats elected. We've had the whistle blowers from red for it on three things. I think you need to know now yesterday, we do the entire show on the campus conversation at the U of a. Entire show. And I said the most powerful part and there were several really good parts. I mean, there's crazy entertaining parts because people are just out of their minds their stuff that they were saying yesterday at the u avai all based on this border patrol protests that these students were just disgusting what they did to these border patrol agents. But there was a gentleman who was a you have a employees. And he's here with me in studio. I don't play your sound bite though. Thank you for coming in funny. Pronuncia? But I think that's a turnament team. And also. Most everyone I've seen has dismissed them as that sort of of squad because they lost the, you know, the truckload of players to the NBA. Yeah. I'm I'm gonna be doubted there. I do like Ryan Luther I thought he was a good player at Pitt a guy who talked about put his time in and then you know, he transfers out. He's a face up five, and they they they've done a nice job of not being they're not gonna be a doormat in that league. But boy that's a replacing an entire team which essentially what they're doing and in overcoming this investigation. That would be a monumental which even guy who I think's really really good coach in Shawn Miller. I was you know, I was thinking more of a Clemson team that has I think four fifth year transfers four four fifth year players on their squad and one that was kind of a surprise of the ACC. There's a team that I think could could do some damage. I think Kansas state is a team that, you know, do I do I think they're and they're ranked they're both teams are ranked. But I think a Kansas state is a team with the dean weighed in a berry Brown and having two point guards. Now that have seen some success. I think that's a team that wouldn't surprise me off. "In coach resume is impeccably incredible he's a basketball genius yeah i will not be either basketball genius this other off the court stuff if you're an ad and you wanna win i mean realistic somebody taking a major risk of course you are of course you are but at end of the day if he could bring a winning program to a situation where they've been in dire need a win that only increases enrollment that only gets more visibility around the school and the program and let's not forget ended the day if you're not letting director and you wanted to have members it's a business so i would not shock me at all all coaches get opportunities in opportunities again after again in order to coach i'll give you one more will you be more surprised or less surprised if shawn miller coaches arizona next season i will be shocked i would meet you i i can't imagine it he's a great i still know as university how you can look more going to be leaked out yeah throughout the course of time and you know book richardson's court trial has to go to the court cases the corks using i would be with all the stuff hovering that program and i will say this player perspective i we all know the protocol after the season ends i went through this my sophomore engineer when i was thinking about leaving you wait a couple of days you'll be more with your teammates these are your brothers you spend time with the coaching staff even if you know what the answer is or not and think you make a decision whether you're going to the draft or not we've seen trae young new that we've seen some other players do that the the most insightful thing to me about this program is that as soon as the game was over in the locker room locker room pony locker room two guys said i'm out i'm out.

"That's going to go to them he's going to say okay well we'll recruits we have come into next year what guys can i talk to in there like well well we got to figure that out and it's like well what about this fbi situation we figure that out oh and i think that's going to be too good of a guy and he's going to say this way too much for me to walk into and i'm gonna walk away so the dominoes are gonna fall with this i mean this is if i are we gonna head over so do you think that there's a legitimate shot he's going to get fired right there has to be so this this comes on the heels of leading into the tournament when everyone let me just say this every single person at espn that picked era zona out of guilt for what they said about show miller in that team when the when it got sleigh botched they are trying to walk it back and they think we're too dumb to realize yes because all of you picked air zona you're trying to curry favor with the fan base does not mean that they are going to forgive you for what you said about show miller tonight they might they might love you for saying what you said shawn miller but at the time you making all these picks the thing that was going to you know make them feel better about you as not gonna work out it's also gonna make you look really dumb when they lose the buffalo by twenty one in the fall that's tough but it does open the door for this this was this was the perfect scenario for shawn miller go to pit this this was because you're thinking like what world is airasia going to fire him because you sort of thought it was gonna be the fbi that took him down and he thought if he gets fired by the fbi than pits not gonna hire you then he becomes toxic is on higher bill you done by the fbi we mean subpoenas had vein.

"Okay zona carolina got arizona for this reason just outlined it partly because you know they're talented they've got a lottery pick and they don't just have a lottery pick they got a number one he's the overall number one number one starting right you're fading on us we can't hear you now know i state purdue i have purdue in in part because i think that be a bracket winning pick right i don't think a lot of people yes even if they fancy perdue to the final four i don't think they'll advance them to the title game the hottest team is michigan state everyone's gonna pick raskin steak yes correct i agree with that so then i have zona in purdue in the title game which i don't think would be title game that would be anticipated you know ratings wise but i'll take the shawn miller tainted wildcats for the national title here is my my wild thought that it that happens that shawn miller resigns he walks away and he says the reason i stayed was to see this teams go as far as it could and i'm out of here now that's that's this is based on nothing no information is going to be very this is what i'm saying saw barry happen it would me only i like that i like to follow that story line i'd like the way you're thinking i think it's kinda devious than and i i enjoy that how ever and i think we talked about this maybe when i was in there the defiance of shawn miller was some bateman and i don't i don't you know over years of covering list would agree with this over years of covering college sports you learn to trust nothing than than any denial about a coke staying he is staying or not leaving whatever is to be met with the highest level of suspicion i do save a little bit of of allowance for the level of defiance that that shawn miller had in in his basement that that anyway just don't he didn't seem like a guy who is like you know what i'm outta here you guys you know what.

"In college miller than the fbi investigation into shawn miller is at the center bet and i would rather not have this tournament go by and forget that that is happening whatever you think of it and that the fact that that is happening shows that there needs to be changed in college basketball so just just for a fee matic reason i would like to see shawn miller survive in this tournament as long as possible then i'm gonna tell you that that the ideal final for you is showing miller against michigan state everything chapman has shaken state that's your ideal final all right so let's go let's go in the west go what he got note on west i have just florida state the nine over the eight missouri michael porter jr back they lost their own the game anyway and then i have a ten over the seven i've providence over texas 'em every everything else would be the higher seats i have so good for five matchup one that feels like maybe it should be around thirty game with the ohio skating and good bagga i have ohio state there so slight upset in the five beating the four i don't know why ended up with so much big ten strengths getting that you're right you're right okay so that the the four in the sweet sixteen from that region i have executor high state which is great regional match i have michigan versus carolina which also could be really really fun game i will go with the highest state over dave you're so i'm not with phil's mom on this one docking late and i think that a lot of people will pick if you're going to pick a one c blues early give we'll probably pick against savior agree with that it doesn't so that leads me with the buckeyes in the tar heels in the elite eight and i'll take carolina i mean they're veteran i i know they had quite a bit of inconsistency but it's it seems like they're playing a little bit better late that went over duke was good even though it was an odd game so there's my final four airasia carolina purdue in michigan state.

"I don't think there's any doubt that book is saying what every needs to say like i've said for awhile all of these guys once they realise they can't get their cases thrown out you know these are not hardened criminals who live by some codis niches gets stitches these are mostly educated men with wives and children they try to do ten years in prison to protect the pac 12 coach or an acc coach so they're gonna talk and if if you know if book has something to say that would theoretically incriminate shawn miller i'm sure he either have said it or will say it i mean i i do i go i what i mean i i got i got a flip on may it's okay i live with that i understand i mean i just think that it's sort of understood at the end of the day you know i got a wife and three kids i i you know i can't just take some fall for you if it if it increases the likelihood i'm never going to see my wives and kids again relief for a long time you know like if you don't understand that i understand you don't understand that and we can probably never be friends again but like i at that when you're facing federal prison like this eight the instable a like incidentally investigations for ever which is why the instantly we put the coaches control rule in the assistance would always take the bullets to the head coach always this is really did jim cow whose programs in in flames fired assistant fired assistant jim care whom lives on that insistence they would take a bullet when it just mit they lose their jobs because like coach could help them get another job or the multimillionaire coach can take care of them there's a variety of ways to work that out but this is different like the saint about losing your job despite losing your freedom it's about not senior kids you know if you get fired from yukon as an assistant coach because you've cheated well you get you still live in your home you know you still take your kids to school you know it's unfortunate but it's not bis and so i think all any at the end of the day everybody who will be given an opportunity to cooperate will cooperate and that's why.
