"All right guys here shot hi. I'm shawn johnson. Olympic gold medalist in gymnastics. And i am a mom a little one girl named her. Where can we follow you at shawn johnson at teddy bear kids and then teddy bear dot com. How are you guys holding up We're doing good. We're doing good. My husband just came out of corentin two days ago from having it. So wow yeah. It was crazy in her house. He was living upstairs. And you guys have a like eight month old baby older almost a year now. She's a little over a year. Okay are you allowed to say thirteen months without eight month old. We say months you got to cut it off there. It's so much different when like a an eighteen month versus twelve month old different. Yes absolutely you know that. Even with your i like there and also just twelve months to thirty. You'll see every month from here twenty four. It's just like every month. it's a new skill. it's a new thing. They're loving so yes. We clock every month. Usa has made me wait. So how so talk about your your first spouse talking about having like a kid with a spouse with now of at what was that experience like what did you do. How did you survive. Tell us everything. So it's like it's fine. He was fine. Luckily he had like cold symptoms Almost made it worse. 'cause he was upstairs just doing nothing ran. I was downstairs in our house. And i just used to everything with your kid. You become like a single parent. And i would make him dinner and said outside the door and to take care of her. You go absolutely crazy. Wow how long did he have to be in quarantine for. He did a full ten days not around us and then the last like two days he kate he liked could come out of his room but he couldn't like hold her anything which is torture for him with her his worse. Yes yes like run from her. Which is confusing but it we got through that. So it's like it's crazy and she says she's thirteen. Yeah she can't really understand right now. Yeah so so doctors a little bit about you. Know you started gymnastics at three numb and we're going to do like a little quick. Ibm everybody knows who you are. But like for for the people who are living under rocks Like a quick overview Started gymnast six. When i was three my mom and dad commanded. Because i was this little kid that way too much energy i was jumping off the entertainment center. I cracked my head open five times before the age of three because i thought i could fly. I was just. I was a massive liability. My gosh so my mom. Put me in ballet. And they kicked me out at three. Because i would never listen. So she found what she called like. This padded playground. Which was gymnastics. And i fell in love with trampoline and fast forward. I was twelve years old. When i made the us national team and started traveling internationally to represent the country and i was sixteen when i made the olympic team in won four medals. I came four. Yeah in beijing china so crazy now being being somebody who grew up with such an incredible discipline. Is that something that you're that you're giving to your daughter or are you going to see what kind of like mood. She's in a she's going to be like off and bring our head open before you let her start a yeah. She already is she. She walked at almost eight months. So wow eight months in like two weeks so yeah she was crazy. I could care less. I could care less if she does gymnastics. I don't care what she does. I want to put her in everything and figure out what she loves. And that's what my parents did with me. So i'm really nervous. If she ever gets into gymnastics. I feel like it's going to be a really rough road for her. The gymnastics community is so small. I could tell you every major coach in the entire country. And i don't think she would be given a fair shot to fail and be bad and you know stumble without people saying. Oh you're shawn's daughter. You should be good and we should push you harder. i just. i don't like that. So that freaks me out. So i hope she chooses something other than gymnastics. But either way. I take your parents were not competitive athletes. Actually yeah they were. My dad was a hockey player for twenty years a wrestler twenty years. My mom ran track and did a little bit of gymnastics but nothing like super competitive but when you got into it at the level that you are competing what was. What does your day look like like what does that. How does that break down. So because i was a teenage head it look different than any other professional athlete. I woke up at six or seven and went to public school. I did a full day. And i will go until i think i was able to leave school around to just because i put all my study halls at the end and then the school allowed me to leave early and then i will go train from three thirty to seven thirty every day and then go home to homework. Eat dinner go to bed. Start over and. I did that monday to friday saturdays. I'd trained nine to noon. I got an hour lunch and trained one two three and then. I had sundays off. And i did that. For from twelve all the way till like eighteen. We interviewed dominique dot on podcast and she talks about how she really mean. She's so that she had this life and excelled in what an incredible experience it was but it was also really hard because she didn't have a childhood and while you know there's certain things about being put into sports in different activities where you stay out of trouble for the most part. You don't have the time to get into trouble yeah But at the same time you also just don't can't sit and play and know what that's like you look back at your childhood and and feel feel that or you just very you know at. This was the most amazing experience. So i was somehow very very very lucky My coach had this really interesting story. He was a world champion for china and he actually moved from china to the united states with the stream of opening a gym in raising athletes. That were also children like allowed to be children just because he had that lifestyle taken from him and so his whole philosophy at his gym was your kid. I you're gymnasts second. And even though i spent so much time at the gym he let us be kids. I would come in and we would play games and we would do slip inside during summer and we would get to he he would like we would leave and he would take us to dairy queen to get frost air like Whatever they solidarity he would let us skip practice to go to school dances and he truly allowed us to be children which almost gave me the best of both worlds because i love gymnastics so much. I didn't feel like i was sacrificing. Anything because i was choosing to be a kid in the gym instead of choosing to be a kid on the track team or at horizon. That's amazing sounds very unique experience to be a high level athlete. Be able to have that. I was very lucky and also at at i mean. Incredible that he he himself had experienced. What can happen when you aren't given that opportunity to also be a kid. But i'm curious at at twelve When you when you got started with that level of like rigorous just scheduled training times. Were there moments where you're like. I'm tired i don't wanna do like. How do you rally at twelve when you don't. I mean mental resilience feels like it takes your entire adulthood to get through an debates. How did you work to that. I actually wondered that myself these days. Because i truly don't think i could do it now. I don't think. I have that disciplined anymore but i remember my parents and my coach did such a good job at reiterating every single day in every day and every time i come into the gym and be like. Oh i wanna quit this. I don't like this anymore. They would reiterate so many times that it was my decision and no matter what i chose they would be really happy for me and they would celebrate it in. I remember my coach even sitting down and saying okay. You wanna quit what you wanna do like you have all this time now. What you gonna do. And he would be excited about it and it would always confuse me as a kid and be like wait. You mean i don't have to do this and that kind of like mental psychology. That they he would play on me and my parents would do in practice. Really made it so those hard days where i was like..

"This is jade this is carly and this is Mommy's tell. Aw Hey Jay. Hey Carli J. I am so excited about today. Show we have someone on that. We've been trying to get on for so long. Even though she didn't know we were trying to get her on. I feel like this has been a year in the making and now it's like the universe manifested it. The universe finally said yes one of my first yeses of twenty twenty but we have Olympian and dancing with the stars winner and new. Mommy Shawn Johnson and I am so excited. I've been a fan for. I mean since she was in the Olympics. Oh yeah and I don't know I'm sure a lot of our listeners are a fan of hers as well and they've kept up with her life but she is married now and her and her husband were trying to get pregnant and they had a miscarriage and she was very open about that and now she has her sweet baby drew and she's so so open and honest with her life as a mom and with her husband and her baby. I don't know she's somebody that I look up to. And Away with just how? She keeps it so real totally. It's so hard to keep it. That real like it really is because you think about it before I think about everything now especially in the public eye like it's very brave. I think to to be authentic these days one hundred percent. It's so funny. I I had this picture where I was like holding up my like. I had my hand under my chin. Did you see me post the other day? This is so dumb but I had like my hand under my Chin like this and I was like taking a picture of basically of myself and I was like what am I gonNA. I needed a picture to puzzles. Like I'M GONNA post this picture and I was a day. I was feeling down in the dumps and I was like this is so funny. It looks like I'm holding up my own Chin. Like when you're like. Oh Yeah I really so I was like some days. I'm just playing to physically and emotionally. I Tell Myself Chin up carly and I literally have to hold up my chin. So here's me today holding up my Chin but also be real. It's amazing to be your own hero. Sometimes look in the mirror go. I'm a bad a beat and sometimes it's the only way to Brighton. Today is to do something. Like that and Evans downstairs and he goes should. I feel like this is an attack towards me right now because you seem like you're trying to say that you feel very alone. Those like Evan. This post has nothing to do with you literally just being like. Hey I'm strong woman and sometimes you just have to really look in the mirror and go. I can do this today. And GonNa Pat Myself on the back and I'm GonNa Give Myself Pep talk and I'm going to be okay like I'm going to be my own hero and no one else can do it for me but myself so I'm going to do it myself. But it was a really good post I thanks yes it was just that was side tangent on social media man. Sometimes you've got do it yourself. I mean right now in your house you have the man flu going on so you have to do everything yourself. I Gosh I have sympathy for my husband idea. Like he is actually really sick. He has a fever and he has some like a stomach virus of some sort which isn't gone through our house like Emerson had it. I woke up to several mornings of just poop everywhere so sad. It was so sad. Oh so was she. Taking her. Divorce was just leaking out. It was just leaking. H- just everywhere. It's like John her leg all over the crib and I talked about this earlier when it was happening it was just oh my God. It was so bad but she's Emerson. Thought it was blood and so the first the first morning so when I walked into her bedroom and she was when it was like her awake time. She was screaming blood because she she was shaking because she thought it was just sad. Yeah so there's this stomach going through our house and I got a little bit of it too and I feel better now but my husband. Tanner this men. In general I feel like when they get sick. They are the biggest babies and young. He's not gotten on a bed and like three days accent. Yeah three hundred because he feels really sick or is it like he has an excuse. It's a mental thing for him. I don't know if I've talked about it before. How he faints when he gets his blood drawn or if he gets like medical done. It's a mental thing for him so when something's going on in his body it's like he this thing that makes him like physically shutdown. It's not funny but like I remember that time. You're talking about going to the dermatologist. And he like he was getting a mole removed or something and he like literally like feigns like shaking on the table because he freaked out so bad. It's not funny. It's actually warble but like the thought of that is like so like fun. I mean I make fun of him for it. Because it's Hilarious to watch. I mean he literally turns away his eyes roll back in his body convulses. There's a name for it. It's like Bazo some something but he has like. It's a mental mental thing for him when he's sick but I call it man flu because I was just sick three days ago and guess what I did. I did everything I didn't. I didn't lay in bed all day. I went you. Can't I worked? I took care of the kids. I got we're we have a really busy week. I've been taking care of everything that's been going on for the week because we are going out of town. My husband's in the bed he is he is really sick. I feel bad. It's so funny. So you know Evans getting vasectomies. Yeah he's getting it done in like a couple of weeks and in the pamphlet or whatever it says bedrest for two to three days with your feet up and he goes. You know what this isn't even which is so funny forever. Say This I mean he was in this industry but he's like this isn't even like a terrible procedure. I feel like they just say that because guys are wis is in there like looking for an excuse to be like. Oh wife I have to be in the bed and put my feet up for two three days and I was like God. At least he's saying that you know instead of being like I go to put my feet up. At least he's like I feel like that's an excuse but who knows like maybe when he goes through it it actually will hurt needs to put a speedup but right now I thought it was a funny thing for a guy to say because normally they're like to be in bed forever which is what Tanner's doing. Yeah well I hope he gets better so that life can go back to normal and not be horrible. I hope so. I mean his mom's coming over later today to take care of him because he's a mama's boy so gosh that is so funny. Well then good then go have a little break. Go do some me time. Also be taking care of the kids. She'll be taking care of her kid. Man Life's GonNa work later. And Gosh I WANNA make a correction that. Somebody told me the other day which they're totally right is when we were talking about the second is I was talking about hysterectomy if you WanNa like prevent pregnancies as you know and you don't want your husband to get a sesame I'm wrong you don't have to get a hysterectomy you can just get your tubes tied. I don't know why I never like totally spaced. My mind yeah like somebody. Who's like you keep mentioning hysterectomy but you can get your tubes tied so for everybody out there. You don't have to do that. I was like Oh my God. I don't know how I totally spaced. That option out of my mind. That's okay we're in mom life world and sometimes we don't think correctly and like all the time all the well on another a happier note. Let's get John. Because I'm so excited to talk to her that I can't actually handle it anymore. All right. Well I'm really excited to talk to Sean. But first we want to tell you about a.

"Like jess your character in general like you just have really good intentions. You are very very well-spoken. You're very smart very level headed your very thoughtful. You're just like your character to the core is really really good Arts Nice cute less nights. Wasn't it a little bit all right? So what is my biggest pet peeve? Already know what it's going to be. What do you think it's GonNa be negative? Yeah well I think it's it's over overly critical and always google glass half full of everything. That's great and I think that's glass half empty glass half empty so like just simple things and we talk about this but you got these beautiful dogs or they were having so much fun. It's going to be so terrible. And they die like we know our whole goal. This is so hard this is so brutal that because they're both the same age and they're gonNA die at the same time what that is a woman a female mentality spink things. I also think as part of that if you like this is a good thing and all relationships is that thoughts today are derived from yesterday. Right so we all grew up and we've had things just grew up in like things that have created us to be who we are today and I think understanding at about your partner is so important. So we've had we've talked about that and that's like what is it and you've talked openly about how things things that you have seen fell have then put in your mind that things will fail today and it's something you're foul is fail in his buffalo guys philosophical from our first female condition raising a daughter and well and especially what you talk about for your Youtube Channel coming up like that. I think the things he has to say or so important. I think it'll do real bet. I just I just think I have again like it was really hard for me that my parents divorced and I was like at an age where parents usually don't enforce those eighteen or like seventeen years old and You think that doesn't affect you in that you're not fragile at that point in your life and that you can handle it and you know it's the right thing and you're mature enough to see what the why but it still. I'm like I saw a failed marriage. When my parents weren't unhappy they were pretty happy. Failed relationships in my own life when you think they're going to work or I've suffered loss of best friends that scares me to get close to people like certain things. So it's I am a little bit negative. I will agree with you and I could work on that but to me. I'm like but this is why I do. Actively work on it. Therapy is my everything. Beautiful beautiful thing that we've talked about. Other couples in some people have different beliefs. But we think it's really important to talk about baggage just because it. It teaches your significant other that I respond this way because whereas some people just don't believe like let's not talk about the past let's not talk about xs and how we got here because I just want to date the person you are I think there's so much more person based off what you've gone through I totally. It's really important but you have to have the maturity I feel like personally to be able to realize that. Hey all the bags I do have has helped me help me help me who. I am not still be clung to that or bitter about it or like let that affect your current relationship. Yeah so that's I feel same way so I think like baggage is a history right but you have two options with history. You let it continue to repeat itself or that each getting deep whether you channel until like you find the positive from your past that brings you where you are today. So you don't relive that passed letting too many people today. We'll take the baggage and move forward with it and let it still impact their current situation in my opinion. If if you fall down the stairs where you should learn not to fall down the stairs thing and it's a really bad now. Novak because I don't WanNa get deep with other things but the point is like the whole idea is insanity is doing the same thing over letting history repeat itself so while you experience that you've learned from it it'll never not be you and it's good to take what has happened and find the good in where it's put you today. Yeah well I mean. That's it's part of forgiving. Like you have to forgive yourself along the way like me today in a relationship is ten times better than me in relationship five years ago because again like you just learn from every relationship were failed relationship or whatever you've gone through in life but I do think I mean I agree with both of you because I think it's so important to talk about like you said the baggage and the failed relationships and why and because it does help each other understand instead of just being like well. That doesn't matter anymore because we're here now so I think it's a combination of those things. "Go for it. I mean it's standard Napa behavior. You'd get drunk. And you have a quick little puke and rally okay. So we had with the raiders for a little bit and we had been a NAPA before done the tasting thing so I kinda knew expect as you should have as well. We're like they give you four different wines at every winery and we went to four and one day so surprised him for his birthday so he flew out to NAPA. Yeah but we went to four wineries. So that's like a lot of one on a cumulative and The whole time I was like just sipping I wasn't finishing each sample. But Sean reach respect quickly and such a Pansy Chug it for me. After the second one she was buzzing and then after the fourth like we supposed to have dinner at this really nice place we sit down and like legitimately. As soon as a waiter came get our drinks. She was like Android to leave. So we've got an and we didn't make it all the way back before we had to stop tiger ratings. Do after that one man. That story sounds exactly like Caitlin is relationship except Pansy starts with the why. I'd be called something else I used to but I like the can quickly. Let's go that Kaelin Kaelin. We'll be like everything will be great hammered. Life is good and then boom it hits like break red light where there is no and grab people go. Well I should. I usually should go before that but I get to a point where I'm saying I can't I can't go anymore I'm out and my move If you ever need a move is like people know I just will leave but I mean all I can hang all drink anyone under the table but when I get to that point my move is to buy everybody shots and then leave because then they're like the memory of the morning they're like you know it's probably a little bit later. You're not going to really remember too much after a shop. You remember a great you dip out a lot under the radar because you've got a whole system for the problems off. It hits like New York and they hit the mid mid dinner and they're -Talian place like Nazi no quick question on the table. Amazing I can. I think you went to the fall asleep. Didn't you or the bathroom and falsely ten minutes. I think that's what you did why I'm like. It was actually incredible. Because we're with some friends and they set this up. It's tough to get a reservation here so you went in you. Enter that the stall and you took a ten minute nap and you came back like a new person. Everyone's like I just got to recharge batteries. Swear yeah that's the weirdest thing I've ever heard. I went to the bathroom and how to nap nap on the table. The bathroom and this sounds like Caitlin went to the bathroom did a quick line. I did not dog's out okay. She hiding even slept. That is I mean I have. I am a very interesting human being. I've been in the position where you go to the bathroom and you're sitting. I'm toilet and you're just like wow I could. I could just sleep. I hope it wasn't a Romper. That's line kogler author Fish News. Profession is third. But you have to tell a now because you can't just you can't just tell Shawn's convention and then think you're GonNa get away without the asteroid embarrassed. Well can you think of one and yours. Too embarrassed to boozy now just any kind of conventional. Come back if yeah because I have another one for you. Oh Yeah let's go. What'S NOT JASON? Jason doesn't really like to embarrass himself so he never has. Good Confessions Confessions. Yes you have But I don't even know if you know this one. I was recording a dance at the studio Nashville a couple of weeks ago. And it's like this really cool dance studio. They have ones in L. A. And it's a big deal. Do really big classes and really really good dancers go there and I was recording a video for my scrunchy line and at do at it again today. At funny scrunchy. Yeah you say like it sounds really harsh. Screw right great. Sounds Spanish Lingo scrunch scrunchy? Yeah I'd catch. I mean as long as you're saying it's not terrible and so I'm doing this video and I have a couple of outfit changes and while I'm getting my makeup done. I like watching these performers practice in a couple of studios and they were really good. They were like these Broadway performers. I was like watching on the big screen in the waiting room. forgetting there is a big screen in the waiting room. I did an outfit change on the big screen on while there was brought you to Brooklyn. I think there's about like I don't know maybe eight people in the waiting room which could be worse but still terrible. She's and I mean full Nike. Oh Wow I was telling the camera guy and all the girls I was like I'm like I don't care about the girls but like just turn around. I'm like I've just got to do this outfit. Change and I. It wasn't a cute outfit change. I couldn't get into the pants and so I was hopping around like scoot. Scoot trying to pull up the pants and then after like if anyone. I'm sure people were watching but as I realized what was happening. I was like wow went behind a curtain and I was like Oh boy Cleo I just got completely naked. There's cameras just like big screen and the music is it. It's it's after the fact. My brain immediately goes great podcast content. So there's that those people were lucky. Yeah they got the slip the other day on Instagram is this close eight million maybe over. I thought that would really get me somewhere. It didn't all right so Mr Chris Harrison was telling me about this crazy party Hulu through in Beverly Hills with all the biggest reality TV stars from like every show and now I have to watch the commercials to see what happened like everyone else. It's somewhat along the same lines. Saw It was my first time to Iowa when Sean I were dating first time meeting one first time meeting her parents being a house and meaning extended family and we went to a family bowling night where they had like It was black light bullying so otherwise. We're all just black right and so it's going well. I had like one. I like one model laundering in college right. Like as opposed to sean doing it all now and and I guess I did it wrong but porn detergent right on. The pants is what I used to do. A show of the black light boring and having a great nice she has. She has his cousin. Who's like really loud won't let you get away with anything. Nothing and he's like he's like dude. Shut up the family born with some Geez. All you pay. Look I look down in like look like spotty house like so embarrassed. It was the beginning of the night and the rest. I would just like sitting down like crowd of questions still. I have no answer. So is that a normal thing to get that on your genes or I don't know just I mean. Remember Room Raiders now. Mtv Shell Writers. Are they going to your room and they did. I mean it looks like based on that show. It's all over the place just chance that's it was. It was all down your pants. That's it was in compromising area. One hundred percent confession the most embarrassing moment I've ever had him. Then you continue to bowl the entire time. He didn't even go bathroom off. Nothing it was like it was it was in there. Yeah yeah that'd in the fabric like you could have cracked it if you cry. Wrongdoing tracked. Jason you're actually ever like two funny stories that are derived from a confession rate and so the first one is Caitlin had told the confession so Caitlyn when she stayed.

I mean that's most of it is because of you know the something's bothering you from work or your spouse or and I feel bad God that our kids take the brunt of that. I really think the most important thing is having that conversation. I can't tell you how many times I've lost my and then gone back and apologized. I'm calm Like she said had the conversation. They're like it's okay. Mommy like you know and just explain. I do that at night to. I'm like I'm tired. I need you to go to sleep because I'm really really tired and I'm about I do all of those things and it makes a huge difference especially as they get older and they can understand it. It helps a lot and just noticing that we're about to lose it because a lot of us walk around trigger like crazy all day long. Our shoulders are up by our ears. We're taking these graphs you know. We're having these thoughts in mind and we don't even notice it and so when you can start to realize oh I'm in great place right now and I need to take ten deep breaths or go for a walk around the block or sitting just dropped my shoulders or whatever it is that is to kind of calm down. That makes a huge difference. Chris I was GONNA say for bedtime for US naptime bedtime. We're failing only miserably at bedtime or we're superseding depending on how Granola you are. I'm either the coast sleep champion or I'm like in your own bed like failure so But like for naptime. She doesn't like she doesn't like to lay down and she's she's about to be four on Sunday and I can't even say that barely without crying so I just now tell her she's awake and five minutes she can get back up and watch TV. 'cause I know she's not going to do it. She also doesn't five minutes is so it's awesome because she is it five minutes yet and I'm like no we gotta close your eyes if you're still waiting five minutes then we can watch TV and then she just never makes it. They're exhausted posting becomes an hour. They don't know yet. Take advantage friends. We haven't educated them on the power of a minute China. Unfortunately just because you you can't really talk to and to two month old. Yeah it'd be like. Why are you crying although we all have time? I don't I know what you want. I don't know what you need from me. I need you to stop crying. I'm going to go take it out on my husband now and then I'll go find my husband argue with him for no reason it was wherever Yeah that's about sounds about the game right Carlos out four four three one thing that you wish that you would have known you know in the very beginning sitting with your parenting style and just something that would have just kept you a little peaceful with this journey. I wish I had understood that for me. And for almost everyone sleep is non-negotiable and when you're not sleeping you cannot pair well and you have to cut yourself a whole lot of slack. I I is. You can't do anything and I was losing my husband. I was with myself. I mean I mean it was a mess. My anxiety exploded. This movie has it all an unbelievable. all-star cast great action smart writing. And it's funny as Hell starring Matthew mcconaughey. Hey Charlie hunnam Henry Golding Michelle Dockery Jeremy. Strong Eddie Marsan Jason Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant. It doesn't get any better than this McConnell. Hey plays a kingpin named Mickey Pearson. Who runs a london-based we'd empire? When he tries to cash in and get out of the game he puts in motion a series of schemes? Bribery and blackmail led by those trying to steal his domain out from under him Guy Ritchie really returns to his gangster roots on this one and it looks dangerously. Good if you haven't seen the trailers yet they're hilarious and available online now. The gentleman is in theaters everywhere. January twenty fourth. Be sure to check it out sir. Okay I'm really excited about this because obviously I have my girls here. But we are getting on the phone with Carla in her book. I'll never forget forget. It came to me. I think it was like an Some gift box whatever but it was hot and not lose your with your kids and I was like I love this title so much so we have. We're on the phone right now. Carla wanted to be here. Thank you for just being honest because I feel like a lot of times. uh-huh people are like we lose our. But how do you not lose your. That's the thing. Oh we all lose our. I still lose my I just do it in less than I used to. And when it still happens I can recover a lot more quickly than I did before. But let's be clear we're all losing it right but like what's the first step in taking that to not like. Is it to take a breath as it to walk away. I need to read it because I still have it sitting on my head sitting on my side table and it's just it's almost like I just have have to keep looking at it to be like okay breath but what like I'm gonNA open it. I promise I will. But what's the first step in that. I think the first step is to understand and what's causing our shit loss right and we may think it's because our kids are being obnoxious or unreasonable or unpredictable. And well that's true sometimes. Sometimes I would argue that because we parents get triggered. Something happens in our life whether it's something about a mortgage payment or a flat. I tire or bad news from the principal or whatever it is and all that and we all have the button get big and bright and super sensitive when we are triggered and then our kids come along and as any parent who has spent by then the kid will tell you kids see a button and they want to push it to. The parents are triggered. We've got happy super pushable buttons and our kids are like I'm going for it. I'm sticking my finger pushing that because that's Waikiki and so the first step is to start to notice when we parents are triggered and know how to take care of ourselves so that when our kids behave and problematic annoying predictable. Whatever ways are buttons pushed we it can be cool and stay calm and roll with it because any parenting book? That tells you that the secret to that losing your to get your kids to behave with all the time. Well I yeah I don't Know No. I don't think that's ever going to happen if I had the secret to that I. I don't know it'd be hanging out with Oprah my private islanders sin. Why are you shaking your head because no kid is going to behave well the time now? I don't actually want them to because then all feel like they're better than me who's raising do. Do I mean if they lose their nine lose my at least we're all being human make you feel better about yourself. Yeah you're losing it together. That's right my four year old already kind of acts like she should be apparent so if she was like always a well put together and tiny business suit in life. I think I would probably feel like there's no need for me and I can just roll out. Is that a thing though. Is that important to not have the kid be the parent in that situation. Absolutely look kids to be kids and when kids become clear and they don't they don't get a chance to have fun and make mistakes and feel their feelings and do all those things. Thanks oh absolutely I mean letting our kids be. Kids is one of the greatest gift we can give them the nice frequently say to my older daughter who wants to be the parents. She's like thinks she's read. It eats you can love in years old. I say hey I got this. I'm the parent I'll take care of this for you does. She doesn't always believe me but we'll get there. How is like what? What do you say when you? Because there's a lot of times when I've talked to Jolie and I've I've gone in the room and I know I did it wrong. Is there something that I should say. Should I go and apologize for for me losing. Yeah Oh absolutely and here's how I do it and I've had a lot of practice with this one and I'll say I'm sorry I yelled at you. I should meal the you. That wasn't the right way to handle it and look the trick to apologizing. Well there's tricks one is wait till your com- if you're still all triggered pissed off what's going to happen is you're going to when they're apologized to your child and you're gonNA expect them to be like it's Okay Mommy I love you. I'm sorry to this. Was all my fault and instead they're gonNA like rumbling. You be like yeah you should yelled at me. Or maybe they're just gonNa nor you and because you're still triggered you're gonna find that behavior annoying and you're GONNA lose. They gotta wait until you're calm that even if the kid doesn't give me this awesome response that you want you can still stay calm and not lose it and the other thing is that you never have to apologize for how you feel so you don't have to say I'm sorry I was mad. There's nothing wrong with being mad. And I. I WANNA dose to know that and I really want kids to know that there's nothing wrong with being mad or pissed off or frustrated confused or anxious or any of it. I mean it doesn't feel good but there's nothing wrong with it so we've college is for our behavior right. I'm sorry I yelled at you. I'm sorry I slammed the door. And and then after. We've sort of reconnected. There may be another conversation. Like hey buddy. I'm sorry lasted. I asked you on your shoes. Eighty seven times and I got frustrated best rated and then you can talk about strategies for get no shoes on. which is you know the challenge of a lifetime well and then you also have to how to make bedtime easier? Because I feel like that's been my biggest struggle struggle. I mean what Catherine you're over last night. Joey I mean she got up five million times. I've GPA. I want milk. I want water. I have to go to the bathroom again. I'm scared in my room. I need my Unicorn I need my but it's like like totally. Please go back to bed usually and I I wanted to scream jolie go back for you know what I mean like. It's it got so frustrating because it's two hours of it so I'm like what a what do I say to you. Know She's GonNa be four in like a few weeks so there's a lot to do that old age by the way I would argue the three and a half to four and a half is the hardest age so it gets better. I promise it will get better but what you can finally say were is you can and say. Hey Kiddo I in tired if you get up again there is a chance. I'M GONNA lose it with you because I'm getting tired and I can't. I need to go to bed and so if you come down again there is a chance to yell at you because I'm so frustrated. I just want you to know that and I think that's my kids. I'll say to them. You know what my buttons are all pushed. I'M GONNA go in the other room taking can depressed and if you follow me I will probably yell you so I need you to know that. And you're saying give me some space. And sometimes they come after me and guess what I lose it because I got no bandwidth left is it okay. Hatoyama's is it okay. Deal yeah of course we all do it. Sometimes the question is how does next. Well it depends so first of all. Is this the dominant dynamic in your relationship with your child if you're yelling at them constantly that's not awesome right. It doesn't feel good for you. It doesn't feel good for them and if you're yelling you only get them about sort of confusing and unpredictable. Things in ways that feel disproportionate like if they spill their milk. And maybe when you were a kid your parents parents just would absolutely explode like ethically when you still your milk and so now you see spilled milk and your body's like Oh. I know what to do in this situation. I lose my and if you like explode like crazy town over spilt milk. That's confusing for a child. You know they're going to be like Oh. I must have done something crazy wrong because mom just exploded loaded. There is something wrong with me but you know. Let's talk about the shoe thing because I don't know about you but in my family. This is like the ongoing struggle even though we do it. Every freaking day somehow takes a million. I used to get our shoes on every morning. My daughter like eighteen times on your shoes telling your shoes put on your shoes. And she doesn't and then I yell at her pretty predictable like she. She knew that was coming. I should've maybe slowed down. Got You know down on some level and said let's go put on your shoes. What's your strategy for doing it and talked through it but mornings are busy? I don't always do that. And so that's a pretty predictable outcome and she can say internally. Oh the reason mom yelled. Let me put my shoes on some of the questions. You might WANNA ask yourself. How often are you exploding at your kids and how intensely and is it proportionate to what's actually going on Exoti- thanks a lot of sense? It's so hard though. I think a lot of times for me. It's not. I'm not there like the straw the camel's back for me. What do you mean so it will be like a million other adult things and then it will just be like the one thing that they do and I don't? We're not really a yelling. Household grew up in a super yellen household. So I'm very conscious of how we parent and it's pretty calm most of the time but and I'm not saying that it's like perfect. It's just call we just don't rage out you know but I do. I don't know like I I feel like it's usually like if I'm upset with my husband. He's done something that's bothered me. And then they don't put their shoes on or whatever then I'm like you know like it's it's that's their unfortunately I'm just like outing myself and like the worst ever. No you know you're being real and I appreciate it 'cause house on that. Yeah it's like adult pressure sound like me and every other mom I mean I would argue. That is the most common reason we lose it with our kids. Sometimes it's because because they've done something so ethically annoying problematic that we have no coca skills left but more often than not. It's because we're exhausted for pistole or parenting partners. Some other Muslim on the playground. Some weird snarky comment and we can't stop thinking about it. We heard something horrible the news. Hello that's constantly phase we're triggered and we have literally nothing left. Yeah more annoyed with the adult children in my life than I am. The children children in my life. I wish I could hustle. Our buttons are huge and bright. Red and super-sensitive we're sensitive and sometimes my buttons get so big that I can't even walk in the room and I'm like get out around and so I you know our job. In that case used to be the grownup to notice that we are triggered like crazy. And then we've got a few options you can say to your kid. I'm having a really hard day like let's try to be a team and Komo weather and just take it easy on each other. I don't have a lot like I don't have a lot better less than obviously you change the language depending on how the kid is and sometimes we get home and I'm like Yay tonight. Especial eat dinner in front of the TV because got nothing left to get you. And so I say those nights for Mac and cheese in front of the TV. For when I need them when the kids need them when when I like I literally need you to engage with me because I'm so wiped out I love and that's that's just being honest about what I have in that moment right and so and and they think it's amazing. They think it's like a party. Meanwhile I'm doing like plotting my husband's death or life having twins over here watching TV and it's great you're Koroni I'm figuring out how to hide up. How tied the body? We'll have you guys so of your dad.

"I like my nipples being touched on sucking on itself. Sorry sorry to No but I just I personally want but it was really important to Mike so I said okay. I'm going to try. And you know my Milton. Come in and then they wanted me to supplement and then they wanted me to pump and it was so stressful. Oh yeah and I was just like crying. They call my Gosh my baby loss even more weight than she should have and then my milk eventually came in but we already made the decision to to to formula feed in are just remember getting so much shame and so much hay. Luckily Catherine was just like. Oh no she's like when I have Ramsey. I'm walking in with my formula into the hospital. And so that's what I did with Jay's and I'll never forget he got sick he got RSV v when he was just like a couple of weeks old and everyone's just like breast as best visit. How he's not going to get sick and I'm like Oh my God they're right like I'm if if my kid ends up getting worse it's because of me because I didn't breastfeed and so I had two girlfriends come over and they're trying to because my boobs still had the Milkin them and they were just so engorged rose house so they had the pump on me? And I literally have different Ashley. Julie massaging my breasts and to try to get milk out. And I'm just bawling and we're trying to get JAS to like connect to my nipple and you know I don't know how to do because I never breastfed so I was like I didn't know how to latch it and how to do all these things I'm just bawling and they're trying to help me and Mike Walks in the room was like why are are you doing this to yourself and I was like because I have to because everyone says that he's going to get worse if I don't breastfeed and he's like You can call the nurse and they said it doesn't matter they're going to be healthy one way or the other or whether you give them formula or or the breast milk is is just like but then this other person says No. They're not because breast is just can't listen to it talking game honestly so many opinions and it's like in my life like I had a husband who did tuner eighty shows a year. Our daughter was born like like I didn't i. I needed everyone fed into doing the best they could. I didn't need extra pressure of and tried for seven weeks to feed her and I could not do it. I mean I had the milk Ninja. They call her Nashville. An air quotes the milk Ninja. She came. She gave me the cookies she gave me the tea. I did all the things I recruited some woman. I didn't even know. Oh who so sweet song writer who my husband knew I was just grabbing any resource and it just wasn't working for us and I had so much gill around it that I think that added to the postpartum depression. That does a lot. I think that is one of the biggest contributing factors brandon trouble leadership. The guilt around it and post-partum post-partum or breastfeeding not getting any sleep. I will say that's a lot to people. That do breastfeed successfully get up a lot at night and they're the only one speeding 'em so the husbands are not helping. You're not getting any sleep. I think that contributes and then migrate was similar but again completely different I had milk. I was like overproducing thing again. Bathing my child and breast another gold medal but she wouldn't latch. And that's I had people coming in lactation specialist saying Oh she needs surgery nations this country for like tongue tied and all this crap and I was like. She's not tongue tied. She's not live tied. I've had specials. Look Ah she's fine and again. They're massaging your boobs and you're being I mean you feel just I mean it's just a very it's a lot. Yeah not not modest experience. And she's stock like you're being so I mean at some point you're like okay. Do you have feeling. Yeah and I remember sitting sitting in the rocking chair and I'm bailing and she's balling and she's hungry. She's not eating and she's not latching and I'm just like give her the bottle and then people guilty about the bottle and I'm like are you kidding me. I can't do that now at the hospital so like with my last one by milk comes in really fast you know I only pumped with one of them really but let my milk had come in. She was latching so I thought she was getting. She was starving. She was like not getting any kid lost so much weight. I ask them to bring me a pop. 'CAUSE gorged in the hospital and of course they didn't want to bring me a pump force them to bring me a pump. They brought me a pop up pump for twenty minutes and nothing would come out of my boobs and I was in gorge An inch and everyone looked at me like that and they go interesting. Great while my baby's screaming yeah and I'm like so. Do we want to do anything about this clearly. She hasn't been eating the last three days. They had a non mom nurse in the hospital when I had legend the last baby for anybody. That's new and she's a non mom nurse and she guilted guilted me. Oh boy I wanted to pump. I wanted formula. I'm like we need to talk was just going to release a little bit and then when nothing came out yeah let it was like Oh great. I brought sports bras. I'm good to go. I did this with my first baby. I didn't even like GimMe Sports Bras. Bring me formula. She's like no. Let's keep keep trying what you want to gain some Mocatta here. Finally I yelled at him but I don't like how hospitals are so like making everybody feel so guilty these days. I don't like it at all that and like what you said about because I know you had really bad postpartum. Did you have post depression. A little bit. I mean I think I think everyone does everything. Yeah yeah but it's just it is the comments comments and stuff and I mean I know John you've had kind of you can't even say you have to be so careful because it's like you can't even say we want healthy baby because then people attacked than it's just. It's so great. You literally cannot say anything without people attacking you and it's like breast bottle formula. I walked in. I remember. We're often to to meet your beautiful beautiful baby and I was just like hey you should be breath formulas great. He's Dykstra thing if you're gonNA feel really good because like maybe breezes okay okay but yeah I mean. There's just so much guilt on every single decision you ever make as a mom and I'm sure we're GONNA get some comments on this and you know I it's not it's not even like it's just can't we all just do our own thing and support and Samsar. That didn't work for you. But you're doing the best that you can. I mean literally. You have four mom's in a room that are just all they. I want to raise a healthy good baby. The best. They can like mentally physically like that. Should always be enough to me Absolutely I.

I'll be waited as long because my husband doesn't want to know. He can't make up his mind. He's just like, I don't know. Yeah. Well, we ran into Jessie James decker, stagecoach. And we were talking about pregnancy and mama. And I mean, she grilled him. She was like Andrew you are holding her back from bonding with our baby like to find out. I was like I mean, I think there's something to be said for that. But I also think either way I mean. Yeah. Our personal opinion in we we've enjoyed knowing. I wanted to wait the second time around though, I really truly did the second time. I wanted to weigh and Michael's like, Nope. He's like find out. And I won't tell you when I was like, that's so mean, I didn't want to especially I don't know why you did generally wanted another girl and so much. So that when we found out it wasn't boy, she looked she cried from tears of like lost kind of my husband right now. We've had multiple like old wives tales people like tell us. They think it's a boy. Okay. And my husband so desperately wants a girl that I think he's now like we're just gonna wait to find out. Oh, so because. Yeah. Yeah. His point. Yeah. So I can imagine how you would have reacted real time. Jason's like the love of my life. I love him more than Jolie. Most days. Like, I want like a million more boys as he he's incredible baby ever. Oh my God. I cannot wait. But so what are your symptoms headaches? Okay. Are you breaking out or not breaking out not breaking out? Okay. What are you craving like salty food? Okay. Like, I don't want sugar. Okay. What's heartbeat? Okay. That's the confusing part. It's how the very first scientic heartbeat. It was low the second. It was like one fifty and it was one seventy five now. Expect one fifty any morning sickness. No, you're having a boy, I said. It's going to be a boy. Baby. It's really wants a girl. Yeah. I mean, there's nothing like I tell Joey when I put it to bed. I always say, you're my favorite. We're gonna have Andrew needs a girl you'll go again again. Do you want to I want to at three? My husband is one of five you so he would take as many as Hey. eight. He's gonna change that do a lot of stuff together, which I love you have your podcast together. He has his podcast. Oh, he has his outcasts a US through the YouTube thing together. Yeah. That's what it is. And. It's they're so cute. I was like they had this like, let's review. To you know, I love it. "Hold you back in a major way of taking the actions. You need every single day to build that momentum to build that belief, that confidence in yourself to get out there and achieve what you want in your life. If your fears are holding you back, it's time to eliminate those fears. It's time to actually embrace them move into them and say, you know what? It's okay if I fail because that's where I'm going to learn. That's why I'm going to get the lessons to improve things that's going to get the feedback. I need to take a different action towards success and it's okay if I do succeed because some of us are afraid of success. The weight, the pressure, the responsibility that success. Comes with, it's okay because you were born to succeed. You were born to achieve. You know, when you just live a mediocre life that's saying that you don't believe you're here for a reason and you are here for a reason and the fear of judgment. If that's holding you back. If you're afraid of what other people are gonna say about you that they're going to say, I told you so that they're going to make fun of you, or you're going to be embarrassed that judgment your focused on your ego, more than on impact. So you've got to stop focusing on the fears and start focusing out focus on how can I make the biggest impact on the people around me. And when you come from that place, that mindset, that's how you build a foundation to be a champion. That's how you develop a winners mindset and allow you to win at the things that you're going after in life. And today we have an incredible episode where I've got some of my favorite guests who are talking about this, this championship mind and how. Champions win and why losers lose. And we've got Julianne huff. We've got pro bowler Ray Lewis. We've got Olympic gold medalist, Shawn Johnson and the man who is on fire right now, Novak Djokovic one of the greatest tennis players of all time. And in this episode we've talked about why you need to take the time to appreciate the moment and the process. So many of us are focused on the end result, and we allow all this fear and insecurity in doubt to hold us down as opposed to focusing on one step at a time where else going to cover the reason you need to be proud of yourself. I hate when people are constantly doubting themselves. They do something that they should be proud of and they say to themselves, well, it wasn't that big a deal or they can't take a compliment or they can't receive. When someone says you did a great job. And if that's you right now, then this is important for you and how being proud of yourself will actually bring you more. Opportunities your way we talk about how fear and doubt will keep you from making the choices that will lead you to success. If you are suffocated by fear or doubt or insecurity, you are unable to achieve what you want. Self esteem is one of the most important factors to success. If you have no self esteem, if you doubt yourself constantly, why would anything good come your way? You're just going to sabotage yourself if you have no self esteem, we're talking about the reason you shouldn't be keeping score and why. What you feel is what matters the most. I.

"Monthly paycheck of anywhere from twelve hundred to twenty five hundred dollars from my governing body as a sixteen year old. I'm not thinking about the future and I didn't have anyone talking to me about the future. I I did have my parents kind of being, you know, the responsible parents saying we should think about college. We should think about scholarships. We should think about at least making enough money to pay for college, you know, kind of putting down to my ear, but as far as like a governing body or anybody within the Olympic organisation protecting us as as children in our best interest in our future. As far as compensation in money went, we didn't have anyone. It was just performed your duties and then off with you. So you didn't even get money from the endorsements. How the majority of Olympic endorsements work. Is you sign an Olympic endorsement such as a Coca Cola McDonald's, a Nike, Adidas Under Armour before the Olympics, even starch, and the way they select these athletes is based on essentially Las Vegas gambling or betting odds, they say, you know, Shawn Johnson looks like she's going to win x amount of medals, but the way these contracts are structured is these athletes aren't paid any money up front. The only way they win money or they earn money is by winning medals. So if if you sign a deal with Nike, that's say a million dollars, whatever may be, but you go to the Olympics, you don't win a medal. You don't earn any money, which I guess similar. It's like an NFL contract. You might sign a two million dollar deal, but if you don't play season game, you don't get paid. But there is this gamble of you don't make money unless you succeed at the Olympics. And when you're talking about thousands and thousands of athletes who have reached the pinnacle of their sport by just qualifying to the Olympics, the fact that they aren't getting compensated for their journey that's gotten to them to that point. And you know saying to them, you're only going to get compensated. If you win, I think, is is pretty extreme. Left out there is that you have to dedicate a hundred percent of your time to get to the Olympics in the first place. So it's not like you were working part time making. Making a decent living while you were trying to qualify for the Olympics. And so this whole like amateurs, not getting paid thing, doesn't matter that much to you like this. This is a big deal to did. They did it matter whether you got like if you did get a medal, what the metal was like. The fact that you got three silvers that of four golds did that, like I heard your income in any way. Oh yes, it hurt my income. I mean favorably really. The difference between a bronze, silver and gold. I mean you're you're talking as zero with each placement. If you win a bronze medal, you might be getting fifty.

"So first off, can you just say your name and what you do, and I don't know if you go, do you have you started going professionally by Sean east or you still trying to work that out? Still trying to work it out. But I think more so Shawn Johnson professionally, broken Sean eastern side, and I was a former professional Olympic gymnasts now turned, I guess, entrepreneur slash social media influencers that the right word, I think so, yeah, if I wanted to start with your childhood, you've said that you don't come from particularly athletic family. So I'm curious how you got into such an athletic sport. Well, I mean, my dad kinda did every sport when I when he was growing up, he was a hockey player. He rustled he did be amac's. He raced Moto x. motocross sprint cross. I mean everything. He was kind of this adrenaline junkie. My mom on the other side was kind of that stereotypical she was cheerleader a little bit. She also did kind of recreational gymnastics, but nothing serious. She ran cross country for, I think a week and then that was about it. Uh-huh. And then when I came along, I think I was just this bundle of energy that they had no idea what to do with and put me in gymnastics class a mommy and me class when I was like two and a half years old and I just fell in love with it and just ran with it so. So you started very young and then around six, I think he started trading with the coaches that went on to take you to the Olympics. First of all, how lucky were you to end up with those coaches. I was incredibly lucky to end up with my coaches. It was kind this freak occurrence. I started out at gym called urban dance and gymnastics, and it was like the only gymnastics place within a thirty mile driving radius of demoain Iowa and I loved it. It was awesome. But Chow Mike coach took me to the Olympics, opened up a gym about five minutes from my parents house. When I was about five or six years old. And my parents ended up switching me to his Jim because it saved gas money. Then it was more affordable for them and the lifestyle that I was choosing. So that was how we ended up there. It was just kind of, I guess, meant to be, but I was super lucky that way. Do you? I mean, that's one way that you might have been a little luck. You is like this great coach, great trainer moving to your town. Think there's a lot of luck involved in being successful as well as you've been. Oh my gosh, I, yes, absolutely. I think a ton of luck is involved in. I feel like that might make it seem like I dunno, I successful Emily athletes. They're not as elite as you would think. But I feel like with luck in with athletics, it's just all about falling into the right place and time. It's kind of like this miracle math kind of a question that has to equal the perfect answer. I mean, you, you can't get hurt. You have to be healthy. You can't have the flu on the wrong day. You have to find the right coach and the right city. Yes, feel Ford. It you have to be the right age. It's all these random things. And when you like, get all the people who fit that equation, you're not left with many people. So I guess I was just the best of the very few who fit that equation. Obviously, any athlete who's achieved what you have in any sport, whether it's gymnastics or football, or baseball, or hockey, or whatever. You have to start taking that activity berry seriously, very, very early on in your life. Can. Can you tell me about that moment when you decided to invest yourself in the in gymnastics so much from such a young age? Yeah, I am..
