This being mid pandemic, he was in New Mexico, she was in Los Angeles. At the end of their one day remote recording session, Shatner asked mirabal if he also sang. And he was like, yeah, I sing. And he just sung something so honest and pure. It touched me when he sung it and I know it was so unplanned and it really just helped in certain moments of the film give that kind of extra

Maybe you wouldn't expect me to be as a rock guitarist to be. You know jumping towards this particular album but the title track survivor. Which you've heard on the radio. A lot is a great fine crafted pop song with beyond say and and the team there providing that three part vocal delivery they do so well there was a it was a michael jackson tribute tv show. That came out in two thousand one when destiny's child was kind of a relatively new act and they did a live version of boot delicious. Which with real guitars at three guitar players and drummer and you know porn section. And they of course the beginning of that song has that stevie nicks edge of seventeen a guitar part that they lifted but they played it so raw. Live and i remember watching beyond say looking at michael jackson taunting in nevada to boot. Alicia vol bang right adam. And he's kind of taken aback. Oh beyond say it but it was. It was powerful. And all i can say is. I didn't have the album until i saw that particular cut of that special with destiny's child doing booty leashes and i thought this song pretty rock. It's it's a rock and song. Yes it's a dance song assets movement or whatever you want to say but there's a rock sensibility to it. That made me love the band and of course gone onto become a huge beyond say fan she just an amazing artist in totality. But this shows her some of her rock and best and if you followed her career at all you've seen like when she's done live shows vegas residencies whatever. She has a full band four guitars full. Everything and generally they're mostly female. She hires musicians to back her up on tour. So there's just too much not to like about this record survivor from destiny's child my number full

"Builders and innovators summit in the heart of cinema wine country in hillsburg California We've got a new oldest person to go to space now Star Trek's captain Kirk AKA William Shatner has touched down in van horn Texas are at ludlow joins us now with San Francisco for the latest on Blue Origin's mission and I'm having flashbacks to being in van horn and watching Jeff Bezos touch down safely Sounds like this one went off without a hitch Yeah thankfully he can live long and prosper forgive the pump You know his mission successful it's the second crude flight that's gone to plan it was Emily chuckles away But it was so fascinating because William Shatner was visibly moved after returning back down to earth Here's what he had to say What you have given me Is the most profound experience I'm so filled with emotion about what just happened I just it's extraordinary I mean just an astonishing reaction for a man that was such a sci-fi icon in the 60s a figure of the future of space and now he's actually lived at Emily astonishing Astonishing indeed look they say it's not a competition but of course it's a competition I mean how would you put this Blue Origin mission in the context of what we just saw with SpaceX and inspiration for Yeah look at 62 miles Apigee above the earth It is a fraction of what space execute with the inspiration for mission right which was 320 mile orbit for three consecutive days But this is the business model for Laura Jen This is what they want to sell William Shatner was flying for free of course paid for by Bezos and Blue Origin but they want to attract high net worth individuals who are willing to pay for just that few moments of weightlessness in space and we know from Brad stone's book for example that there's pressure internally in Blue Origin to really ramp up the frequency of launches they're doing So we are officially seeing space tourism now in action What is the future of this Are there really going to be hundreds of these flights going up and coming down every day It's really hard to gauge in a virgin galactic is now going to charge $450,000 a pop for its launch system for pretty similar experience After SpaceX finished the inspiration for mission they said they were backlogged basically They had a list of willing paying customers who wanted that three day or the toy experience but they simply couldn't meet the demand They can only launch a few times a year UBS reckons this is a $4 billion a year industry by 2030 But until we get some real detail on how much a per flight cost is or who those buyers actually are as you know Emily we've discussed it This is a rich man's sport and right now it's certainly being bankrolled by the billionaires All right I'd love low in San Francisco and thank you for that update glad everyone is happy and safe I want to get back to our exclusive conversation with Goldman Sachs co head of investment banking dandies I asked him about the number of companies taking the traditional IPO route versus going this back and direct listing way new phenomenon there Take a listen to what he had to say There's still the minority of the things More companies are still choosing the traditional path of a traditional IPO We continue to innovate on the traditional IPO and find new ways to do price discovery Because there are folks who say that traditional path is broken Yeah Yeah And I don't believe the traditional path is broken I think the direct listing pack.

with disdain for the radical left and a wide ranging plan to challenge the Biden administration in court The group has already scored some early victories including in lawsuits accusing the federal government of discriminating against white business owners Joining me is Bloomberg legal reporter Eric Larson Tell us who Stephen Miller is for those who may not know So Stephen Miller is a conservative political operative who served as a senior White House aide to Donald Trump and also was a speechwriter for the president He is known as sort of the architect of some of Trump's most anti immigrant policies things like the Muslim ban and the family separation policies and some of those really divisive policies that really riled up a lot of Democrats Did he start America first legal He did It was just started in April He did so with the blessing of Donald Trump who issued a press release praising his effort and the opening of America first legal So it is leading it And he's doing so with several other former Trump administration officials who've joined him in the effort including former acting U.S. attorney general Whitaker and some other folks He's not a lawyer right No he's not a lawyer But he has a former Justice Department lawyer during the Trump administration gene Hamilton who is known for working on a lot of immigration policies under Trump is one of the lead lawyers at America first legal So there are established right wing legal advocacy groups such as alliance defending freedom and judicial watch So why another group Well that's a good question Some folks that I spoke with in the conservative nonprofit group there said that even though there are these other groups that they still feel like they're outgunned by left leaning organizations like the American civil liberties union They want to see something that rises to that level Even though America first legal has just started earlier this year that's how they kind of already want to be seen as really going after the Biden administration on a range of policies the same way that the ACLU did during the Trump administration So what are some of the aims or maybe I should say targets of the group They're pretty wide ranging It started out with lawsuits against the administration challenging racial equity programs that had been built into the pandemic relief bill that had earmarked billions of dollars to be prioritized toward minority owned restaurants in one provision and minority owned farms and ranches in another And he sued filed separate lawsuits over both of those and actually one injunction preliminary injunctions against the administration in those cases which are still pending but he's also sued over the Biden administration's return to policies that ban discrimination against people based on sexual orientation or gender identity in healthcare and housing and alike And that's just the beginning There are several other aspects of the administration that seems to be eyeing based on the press releases they've been putting out and the freedom of information act requests that they've been filing and highlighting on their website You said they have scored victories These are cases where they can pick the judge or at least the courthouse that will be hearing the case Yes they've been filing suits in Texas where they can but also in Washington D.C. federal court I got that job and Dan they were auditioning for this movie called scruples and that was really got everybody excited. It was based on a judith krantz novel was very soapy and fun and passionate. Packed with all kinds of wonderful personalities and actors and it was about Beverly Hills and it was we shot in nineteen seventy nine even before the glove, the eighties and more is more I played this kind of trouble Starlit who is bisexual and not that they really touched on that. You know very gingerly of course at the time, but it introduced me to a different level of just struggling and making due to being brought in the room because I had done that and and people like what I've done. So that was a marked difference, and then shortly after that, I did have a film called tribute and ticket to heaven and a lot of sort of films. What's one thing that we can't Google about you there's so much out there. An Introduction to Star Trek: Picard
"We're GonNa talk about everything we know about the card series to date and talk a little bit about Picard the character and provide even a little primer as far as if you want to go back in and reacquaint yourself with the character we can give view a few episodes to pick from and of course if you have? CBS All access. You have access to the full star Trek Universe at least as far as the small screen green is concerned. And I'm really loving the chance to get back in here and revisit some of this show that I haven't watched it's probably been ten years since my last. Tng Oh gee rewatch so. It's nice to have it fresh in my mind. Yeah so just to clarify busy. I mean this will be the first of a few prepaid card a podcast. We're doing I would say people looking for speculation as to you know who are these new characters were seeing. What do the trailer show? I think it's safe to say we'll probably touch upon it but I think it'd be better. It'd be covered in its own separate pot castle in a couple of weeks. This is more so podcast for like. Hey Do you know who John Luc Picard is. Do you remember win. Romulus was destroyed. Who the hell seven of nine this is? Sort of like a cannon catch up to get people either reacquainted or caught up for the first time with what exactly these characters are bringing that we know of before we move forward with characters old and new I guess to start I mean before we even get into anything with with what we know of Joel mccower and the characters around him he jesse talked about manifesting. This so what are your thoughts when you initially found out because there are obviously rumblings blinks about it Patrick Stewart announced. I think in Vegas a couple years ago that it was a thing. We got trailers over the course of twenty nineteen. So what did you think about this actually becoming a reality Eh. Well this is like every fan's dream I think there's nobody out there that puts picard at the bottom of their captain rankings. Out He is. The most is the most fun I think the most layered of the captains the I think he's definitely the captain where there's the most territory left to explore. And and I think the place we left him was so tantalizing like whichever playing you WANNA say. We really left him on whether it's the future. Richard Echoes that we saw in the final episode of Star Trek Next Generation. Or whether it's where we left off in the last movie back in two thousand and two and and Mike I know you were in kindergarten or something so you may not be that I. I was in seventh grade. Thank you very much definitely not in the mood to sit down for two hour long star Trek movies at that point but you know uh not not a not a little bit of a baby in the bork incubator. A little bit more of an adolescent. That's an all right. All right fair enough. You knew the Star Trek existed in was a thing exactly. Yeah and I would say that at that point. That was also so what that was when we were nearing the end. I think we're already a couple years removed from the D. S. nine voyager double feature creature feature so ah it definitely was like star. Trek was in the atmosphere but considering that I was born during season three of next generation I can't say that Picard. Even from Star Trek Perspective was top of mind for my twelve year old brain. It's true and I think twelve is probably also the wrong age to start formulating your final star trek opinions. Even if you do grow up with it. Yeah that's very true unless maybe if you place my memory in a satellite that allows it to live out for the next thirty five years really formulate my thoughts on him. Yeah Yeah Well I love I love it. We when they play fast and loose with the human consciousness as we'll talk about when we start breaking down some of our favorite card episodes I think that will it became apparent. Yeah I mean this. I can't believe we're talking about. There's like this is crazy because not only is this a star Trek nerds dream come true but it also at least from what I had heard for a while Patrick Stewart got to the point. Where like he was didn't even want to acknowledge Picard? Like there was a rumor. I I think in Hollywood that like. Hey if you're working with Patrick Stewart on a project don't mention John Luc Picard of the next generation. Because he won't be happy with it. I think for a while he felt like actually actually bit contrary to your point. He felt like his character's journey had come to an end. He felt that book was closed. But I guess he's been giving interviews obviously in the past year and he said that getting to experience how much the next generation specifically meant to a hole for lack of a better term generation of people. I think touch them in a way that made him genuinely want to revisit the character which makes me happy and from what I've seen in terms of all the preseason press he's been doing he seems to just be having the time of his life life which makes me very happy. It's not necessarily dragging Harrison Ford onto the set of the force awakens. And you know making him go through the motions again. This is someone who is genuinely invested. Did in going back to the character are living in an era of peak nostalgia. I feel like everything is a reboot of everything nowadays Yeah I think. I think you're right about Patrick. Stewart kind of wanting to distance himself from card for a very long time and I think even at the point when he began playing card. I think I think the character played by Alan Rickman and Galaxy Quest. We all agree. That is kind of making fun of Patrick Stewart to some. Yeah even though he's supposed to be I think the science it's officers. so He's more of like the spock or type. I think the fact that this is this like like you said this. This master Thespian. WHO's been beleaguered to have to give off all of these over the top lines and also SCIENC- terms that don't make a lot of sense and repetition? That's just been what we all imagined. Jamais Patrick Stewart was thinking through. So yeah I mean it's very clear. What sort of his perspective isn't that also reflected in the character as well? We'll get a bit into it but obviously popcorn a huge departure from a captain like Kirk who had experience from the original series. And I think that's very very much due not just the different natures of William Shatner and Patrick Stewart in terms of the way they just sort of compose themselves. I think it's also it's a difference between tween how seriously the show took itself because I think star trek the original series probably didn't necessarily take itself super seriously as it was being formulated plated. It's very imaginative. Show to be sure but I think there's there's always like a little bit of self awareness and then I remember I was very young when Star Trek the next generation premiered and I remember being struck by you know little eight year old me watching this show thinking this takes itself much more seriously and it's kind of. It's a double edged sword because I think next generation was able to explore some themes that original series series star Trek attempted to certainly was groundbreaking for its time. But there's a lot more gravitas especially the early season episodes episodes where they're really trying to feel out exactly how serious they could be in the swing in the wrong direction a few times and I think you get you get this starship led by this very serious captain at times like I think picard strikes me as someone who's he's much more even tempered and he takes his position position like he's having a lot less fun in the very beginning at least yeah. It's sort of like this is a very loose sketch. But he served the bird to Kirk Ernie right where he definitely seems to be a bit more like fun free shirl ago sleep with some Orion women and look we'll definitely get into some adventures that picard had both romantically frantically and otherwise. But I totally agree with you. He walked in like vary by the books. He's very good. There's a reason why he has a maneuver named dafter him when he had with the previous starship that he had worked for but he seems someone who like you said was a very sobering presence and I think that really you not only set the tone for the ship but also for the show
