"Drag shows, pronouns, bathroom use and transgender children. I'm Lisa dwyer. Florida is banning gender affirming care for minors with new restrictions on adults seeking treatment. It's amongst a series of anti LGBTQ+ bills signed by Republican governor Ron DeSantis. The bills restrict pronoun use in schools and require people to use the bathroom corresponding with their sex at birth, the ceremony at a Christian school in Tampa had a campaign like Phil to it with desantis tossing sharpies to the crowd, as opposed to when he privately signed measures on abortion and gun rights. Having the Pen Pres. Trump Used to Sign Border Wall Executive Orders
"Folks this is the pan Donald Trump signed the executive order allocating money to the border wall that was previously allocated to Pentagon and other types of spending Don't tell me he didn't do it How did I get the pen I never told this story before but I was up in the Oval Office with my wife and we were up in D.C. so we stopped by to visit president Trump in the oval Whatever I'm not trying to impress her It is what it is Story has a purpose And while we were in there with him he had just finished signing that executive order allocating some of that money towards the border wall construction that a lot of people in the primary now are insisting never happened He didn't try to build a wall eating captain No he did The thing was litigated to death He got good chunks of it built not enormous chunks but what he could do he did So we were up there and we were staying over at the time was the Trump hotel down the block from The White House And I looked on the desk and I don't know if I said to him but because I'm used to seeing these pens from my time there I said oh look at that Good-looking pen there It's a big kind of like black sharpie type device And he said oh these are the pens I signed the executive order width for the border wall And there were three of them You know he signs his first name one middle initial with the other last name because they want to give away more pens Why do they sign it with multiple pens He said you ever see when Obama signed ObamaCare He signed each letter of his name If you go back and look with a different pen because he wanted to give them all away So he said oh you want one And I wasn't I was like yeah sure I'll take it So it's pretty cool I think it was one of his first executive orders especially related to the border wall Maybe one of his first at all So I have it It's right here

Our Descendants Will See How Dumb Our COVID Rules Were
"Descendants people who are kids grandkids great grandkids they are going to look back on this and they are going to laugh at how stupid not you and I were But how dumb tyrannical and ridiculous the politicians were Do you remember this cut If you're drinking coffee put it down you're gonna spit it all I'm warning you now I'm doing the right thing Do not blame me To put anything down 'cause you're gonna this is serious This is not a this is actually happened This is not a gym dark web clip This is the NASA county New York on Long Island executive Her name was Laura Curran Things were so crazy during COVID That they felt the need to create special rules for tennis balls I swear to you this is real This is not a joke Folks this actually happened Check this out Unless they're from the same household has to bring their own tennis balls So that you don't touch other people's tennis balls With your hands you can kick their balls but you can't touch them I'm gonna blush sorry Of course if you're playing with someone in your household you can touch those tennis balls To avoid to avoid confusion between these walls or clues you can use a marker like a sharpie to mark out to put an axe to put someone's initials on them So don't worry you can kick their balls but just don't touch their balls So just to be clear you can rub their balls you could touch their balls and you can kick their balls But you just you can't touch other people's balls You can just touch your own ball Like if this happened But if you're in the same house you can touch as many balls as you want Now this happened That is not fake

"And so rather than just say, hey, they're really doing a good job at texting him. He's compelled, and maybe this isn't narcissism, but he's compelled to explain to you I'm not slipping and they're not really recruiting better than us. They just bought everybody. And we didn't buy anybody. And we still finished second right behind them. Like he was compelled to make it clear to the world because I do think this was intentional. We're not slipping at Alabama. We're not getting out recruited by fellow SEC schools. I'm not getting out recruited by a former assistant of mine. They're spending $30 million on the recruiting class. That's what happened. And so could you see caliper? Like if suddenly. Florida beat them for two 5 star prospects. Could you see Cal saying, listen, you know, there are some schools out there that are throwing around millions of dollars in name image and likeness deals to get recruiting done. And I've never had to do it that way. And we still aren't doing it that way. But maybe we'll have to adjust and adapt. I could see him saying something like that. In fact, he just stopped a few yards short of that a few weeks ago when he was explaining we're getting everybody we want to get. We haven't lost anybody because of name would you like this? And we're doing naming like this better than anybody else. Like that was, that was, you know, if Nick Saban's comments says site were Major League Baseball, like what cow and Cal stepped in a few weeks ago was like double light baseball. Yeah, that's true. Yeah, that's fair. I'm going to promote pick 6. Cover three podcasts. If you want, if you're a college sports fan, go find them after you listen to this one, obviously. They're going to have this whole thing covered because apparently Jimbo Fisher is literally saying some people think they are God. It's refusing to take Nick Saban's calls. He said, Nick Saban tried to call him he didn't pick up the phone call says, quote, we're done. This is going to dominate the news cycle. On a day where Tiger Woods is playing in a major golf championship, it's kind of wild. But I didn't want to at least not acknowledge the fact that in college sports, there is a feud unfolding unlike a few other issues we've ever seen. They just used to work for saving. It's kind of wild, so anyway, if you want to get more of that, the cover three guys will absolutely have you covered pun intended. But why not dive into this mailbox? We got plenty of good stuff to get here, GP. All right, we took questions from Twitter, and the way we'll do this is alternate back and forth back and forth. And then eventually we'll get to the end and I'll shout out some people and we'll call it a day. So let's start with this question. It comes from sharpie Charlie. Sharpie Charlie. Assuming duke in North Carolina is going to be top four in the ACC. Which goals are going to make up the other two spots. I'll let you take a stab at it first. Good question. Duke and Carolina got to be considered top four. No doubt, I'll have more on duke and a little bit here. I was talking with a few folks recently about the state of the ACC going into next season. Reminder, here are the teams that made the tournament this past season. Miami obviously, Virginia tech's weekday, and Notre-Dame squeaked in. So you had 5 teams get in, duke was the only one that was high level Carolina made the title game, but it was an 8 seat and then Miami Notre-Dame and vo tech were all ten and 11 seats there. Wake forest just barely missed. We'll see if it's like, if Jake laravia returns, which feels, I feel not good. It's not good. Okay, fair enough. He apparently shot it like crazy at the combine and then pulled out of the scrimmages..

Meeting or series of meetings are open to and they'll learn about the trade offs like oh. I didn't realize if you just paid everyone. Maybe when athletics would lose all their money in three weeks. Oh gosh now. i didn't. That unintended consequence. Isn't when i'm willing to live with right and you start doing that kind of i think we're gets tricky and where i think the point of this book could be misunderstood is an. I'll stay with sports for second. There's a bathroom somewhere on. I ninety five between new york and boston. Where in the bathroom. Someone had scribbled janke suck. And then someone's scribbled it out and red sox suck and then someone wrote yankee suck right so there's like almost like eighteen inches worth of this scribbling back and forth and then suster been new haven connecticut based on benefactors. Exactly so then. Someone comes into the bathroom and circles to whole back and forth in in a big green sharpy rights and we all love baseball. Now you're kind of like. Oh that feels good for like a second but if if the people trying to find a way through these intractable problems sound like mr greene sharpie and i didn't go back by the way but you know there's continued commentary on where mr green sharpie could put his pants like. It's just annoying. It's just sort of group hug feel-good crap that people will just be like well. That's not a real life thing. So what i would say somewhere between red sox talk yankees sucked of trench warfare going nowhere and hey big group hug we all let baseball. There exist in inbetween space. Where i think we should put a lot of time and effort. And you are on this podcast which is to stick with baseball. Hey should we eliminate the designated hitter in the american league. Now you can imagine red sox yankees fans being super shortsighted being well. We have a really good now. So that sucks but you could also imagine them being like i am willing to have this discussion about a game we love but bring all your differences and disagreements and argue haggle about a game. You love and the habit of doing that. I think we've lost and we need to get better at and we could get better at them outside of high stakes washington politics because there's so many other things we could get to work at and if we got good at doing knows maybe we could. Children may be could get better at solving some of these other ones. I want to ask you partly about how we lost that capacity. And i want use his a concrete example. Something you're at a position to know huge amount about which is the years where you are. Us ambassador to the united kingdom were years that the brexit specter gradually went from being a high in the sky idea to something actually plausible and then ultimately to a lot of people shock. It actually happened and you had the front row seat to to all of that so i wonder what you would reflect on observing that whole process in your in the course of your pretty significant amount of time there. I would argue. That's what happened to that. They lost the ability to have the green sharpie and they collapsed into a red sox versus yankees were remain versus leave. What did you think happened there at a deep cultural level. I think the honest and short answer is. I don't know what i did. Learn as you said being right there in the middle of all that i remember when i was at some fancy black tie dinner in the city of london. I was seated next to a gentleman. He was quick to tell me early that he had written something. Like five hundred thousand pound check to the remain campaign. This is the group against brexit. And i thought okay good to know and chat about other things and then i'm looking up at in this big vaulted ceiling room. There was some flag. i didn't really recognize. It may have been like the city of london flag or something then. there was. The english crossed the english flag. And then there was the union jack and i just said to him off handed the outside. You know twenty years from now. Could you picture the european flag as a fourth flag up there and you would think i said something incredibly insulting to him and he turned to me and he's like over my dead body gripping his butter knife and so here's a guy funding remain and he hates the idea of the european union flag. Ever showing up in this place that he loves. And i thought ooh okay. That's weird so there wasn't a whole lot of love for the european union by the people who were not true of everybody. Some people really got into it but the thought that was a window into. Hey that's a tough thing to prevail so in that interpretation which is a fascinating one And i like stories about how you say something england than people look at you like you've insulted them. 'cause that seemed to be every conversation i had lived in england although to be fair time. They were also insulting alienated doing so. I love the story. It sounds like in your interpretation. You're suggesting that the deep national sentiment that people feel in england and maybe in britain as well more broadly is just so powerful that even people who rationally had an argument for remaining in the european union at some deep level. Didn't care about it as much as people who really wanted out well but that's still begs. The question yeah until the the referendum the way it was worded was just sort of thumbs up thumbs down in out. It was a binary choice if you gave people do hr surveys. It's like strongly agree somewhat agree neutral. Five check marks. you could do across the spectrum. My sense is if you had asked have nothing to back. This up this hunch. Hey do you wanna be totally fully in the eu france and germany are. That's one out of five. Do want totally out. I never want anything to do with. This thing is a five. I think you would have ended up with people sort of. I don't know in the two and a half to three kind of like. I want to be in but i don't wanna be in their currency and i don't want to have the same customs union. Oh which by the way is where the uk was as it relates to the european union beforehand..

In that level with that level of intensity and that level of quality in the opening twenty minutes and then he remained to be effective. And i think it was just understandable given the direction that team was going. And also maybe a little bit of pragmatism from robin. "Sharpie would have gotten stuck gone totally changed it because at that point salami. They don't have big see. That is a meeting in a context. Refrain because somebody looking at something. Different is going to see a different meaning in context with the to reframing so far any questions on those before i go to the actual ailing more objections in sleight of mouth patterns for good So geoffrey geoffrey yes. Let's go with that question. This is roy. Go with that question. I shared earlier. I went to a seller. And i i you know. Single-party compensation showed them a Showed my buyer his property. The by then the cell apply decided not to go with four with it but then the it turns around and said you know. We don't think we want to work with you you. You should have known better about that fire whether or not he was interested or not in my property and i i can't control that as basically what i said. Yeah go ahead so you can't control. That is an answer that i has seller. Probably don't want here. We'll probably i'll say definitely don't want to hear so. Let's talk about reframing that what could you what you did by bringing this harvard. Refrain what you did. Bring the buyer there to potential that property. So let's refrain that as a positive so my refrains cell would bake mr mrs seller. It's not that. I wasn't qualified the people. It's that i'm doing my job. I bring here halt because only then will they know if they're interested in not unlike some of the other agents who's just gonna show a picture of a house and not children the interior. How beautiful your house looks in person. So actually. I'm doing my job so i just took something that. They thought that you weren't doing. Your job is not qualifying them to you're actually doing. This is to make sure people get into their whole taxi. See the property because they probably looked so much better in person than in photos to. Sammy can take that as far as the reframe of. You're not doing your job. You didn't all these people. I don't wanna work with you. Because of that to know the reason why you should work with maize. Because i do not because when you sign with me what we're gonna do is. We're going to schedule these all the same exact time. Where going to schedule a shell ring so we have you know. We'll pick the day the week say wednesday night you take your wife out to dinner. So we'll do all the shows on wednesday between six and seven therefore you don't even have being convenience now bring all his bars in the same exact time so see how you can refrain what you're doing to them as. Hey you weren't doing the job to know this job that makes sense. Thank you welcome. It's a lotta times with The biggest thing when it comes to refrain when you're handling objection or that resistance is you can't be defensive as soon as you start getting defensive gernot reframe it so it's always is the person how can i change. The context applets therefore change the meeting because all meaning is context dependent. So they mean x. so how can change the context to actually show it. This is something i should be doing or this is a benefit to them..

Your Next Dive - Key Largo
"Last year my goal was to do a segment of your next dive where i featured key largo dive mecca here in the united states. I wanted to time this segment for just after we returned from key. Largo in april of two thousand and twenty. Well we all know how that turned out. We did not get there and again in two thousand and twenty one. We were not able to plan out an excursion as we would have hoped to. Two thousand and twenty two however is on the horizon. But i didn't wanna wait any longer to talk about key largo so here we go with your next dive where we travel to key largo florida. I think i've mentioned it before here on the podcast that my first is after getting a certification where with it's a dive located at the marriott hotel on the overland highway in key largo and it was fantastic. How about your first real dive being on a real historic wreck the city of washington a ship that was in havana harbor when the us main exploded and sank now. There are many reasons to choose key largo as your dive destination. Especially if you live in the eastern part of the united states first off. It's easy to get to. You can either fly into fort lauderdale. Which is my preferred airport. As i find it logistically navigate or miami which is a little closer to key Key largo you just hop in your rental car. That is if you can find one these days and head on down now. Let's talk a little bit about the dive. Operators in key largo as you can imagine being to dive. Mecca that it is. There are quite a number of operators to choose from it's a dive at the marriott is no longer operating but i will talk about two of the operators. I'm familiar with. They are horizon divers and rainbow reef now right after only a couple of months. After i did that first trip to key largo i returned and at that time. I drove with horizon divers back. Then they were located in marina at mile marker one hundred of the overseas highway and that was right next to the courtyard by marriott. Which at the time was a radison. It was very convenient to roll out of bed. Get a quick bite to eat and stroll over to the dive. Shot horizon has moved however and they are now located on the overseas highway at mile marker. One oh six. That's the dive shop in a retail store. Their boats are located about a half a mile up the road next to a place called shipwrecks oceanside now rainbow reef has taken over the old horizon diver facility at the mile marker one hundred marina additionally they also bought out ocean divers on the other side of the marina and have quite a large operation. Now the last time we were in key largo. We stayed at the courtyard and dove with horizon. We were going to go back to key. Largo in two thousand twenty and planned to die with rainbow reef. We didn't make it down there now. If you're looking to do more technical diving then. I think horizon divers maybe a better choice for the shallow reefs that i like rainbow reef might be a good option as they have those big forty six foot newton dive boats now. I have to admit that. I've never done the deeper wrecks down there like spiegel grove. Where the dwayne bid. But i love the shallow wrecks like the city of washington. The hanan bell. Also known as mike's wreck and especially the ben would. They are teeming with fish life and are great places to do fish identification and surveys. You can also experience of great dives on elbow reef molasses reef and french reef another great shallow dive through the book spurring grove. Karl is christ of the abyss. Dry rocks you can grit some great photo opportunities there. The water temperatures in key largo range from the mid seventies in the winter months to the mid eighties in the peak of the summer. When i dove in april of two thousand and nineteen. I was pretty comfortable on the shallow reefs with my three millimeter wetsuit. Only wanna do to morning dives. You can free up your afternoons for some topside adventures. A trip to reef headquarters Is interesting or you can take a tour of the coral restoration foundation and just down. The road is the history of diving museum in l. morada. I was really looking forward to getting to the museum last year and hope that i can make it down there next april. Talk about the dining. While if you're staying at the courtyard on the marina you don't have to get in your car and drive someplace you can just scroll stroll over skippers doc right on the marina. They have some great conch chowder. There and if you want a burger or some pub food than walk a little bit further down to dr sharpies shark bite grill. You'll probably run into some of the dive staff there hanging out now. Another great place to eat is the pilot house and that's located right near the coral restoration foundation very close by and and if you're in the mood for pizza then upper crust pizza at mile marker one zero one point six. Just make sure it's not. Wednesday is their closed. We made that mistake. So as i wrap up this segment. If you've been diving in key largo. I hope that you will agree that it is really a cool place to dive. And if you've never been there. I would encourage you to consider putting a trip there on your counter. I regret having taken fourteen years between visits. I'm not gonna make that mistake again.

Where the fact checkers on you know the fact checkers once we've discussing we've been discussing throughout the show. The opinion checkers also noticed the sensors, the Communists, the fascists, right, the fact checker. You know what they do They go out where the fact checkers every time a conservative says something about this is missing context. This is missing context. Where's the missing context on that? Right there. A bunch of members of the House of Representatives the past who are members of the Ku Klux Klan? Yeah, dude, they were Democrats. They were Debs. Democrats. Demon rats? How to Vacation at Disney World, Without Stepping Foot in a Park
"We've done this a few times on our vacations which is vacationing at walt. Disney world. without going to the parks So i i know i enjoy it because we go so often. People always say like. Oh my gosh you know. Five days at disney. I'm just so tired because you know you get up early. Go to the park. Go to bed late and you kind of get burned out that way so this this is a good way to do disney just like any other resort so sharpie you wanna you wanna go with your first Tipper tidbit on vacationing disneyworld. Without going to the parks my first suggestion would be in the way you pack. I know that sounds crazy but always remember that. If you're if you're not going to the park you're you're gonna be dressing in mica resort in resort casual you. Can you can dress up a little bit more. If you're not going to the parks 'cause you know you need to be a little bit more comfortable but also you can take in some of the nicer restaurants and enjoy enjoy. The meal without being rushed so so think ahead to the type of things that you want to do while you're on vacation and pack more resort vacation instead of arcs vacation. That's my first gesture. This is definitely good advice. So you had to to expand on your point of taking this like a resort vacation. And that's how i kind of think of disney world. It's like a resort that you would go like a beach vacation where you go to resort Same thing that. Walt disney world. Where you go to a really nice resort but you just have the added benefit if you wanna go to a park for a little bit Or go to apcoa for dinner or something you could do that But just staying at your resort I i like the idea that where you can take it a more relaxed approach. Because i always feel like all right we gotta get dinner. We gotta get outta dinner. We gotta go see the fireworks over. We gotta be here So there's none of that you're just taking it

It's okay cuz similar but she wants to talk to Emma before this happens and you know what the first like thing that I was like, yeah, that was actually smart that she's doing. Yes. Yeah. I don't blame her for wanting to do that cuz it's like so you guys have a picture up from 3 and 1/2 weeks ago and you expect me to believe your own not involved at all. The Lead
From Public Defender To Stanley Cup Champion
"So joe for those who might not follow the nhl super closely. Can you just give us a sense of what jon cooper has accomplished during his as a coach in the nhl. Definitely jon cooper is the longest tenured coach shell. He's on an eight th anniversary of his hiring on this week. The winningest coach in franchise history for the lightning. And i think he's highly regarded as one of the better coaches in the league and probably a candidate coach team. Canada at the next olympics are positions and olympics for the trump player so deadly highly regarded coach but up until this past season. He hasn't won the big one and that was kind of the big question surrounding it. And how would you describe his personality. Well he's a players go. She's a really fun personality. Like you quotes wedding crashers. Upper seventy six. No excuses public champion. You uses a champion. The only person you have to answer to when you go home at night is really yourself. The national media loves him because he is a great world this charismatic. You're going to get knocked down. There's no question people are going to push down. Because ultimately they want to see it fail if you think maybe teams on trips to like field of dreams when he was in earlier years coaching. He's all about the different sides and binding guys together on the ice and that if you get is connected as a group and the for each other and very process over outcome kind of guy and so you definitely has that charisma that makes them unique. I think the players like that. We'll show you recently. Wrote about how jon cooper has followed perhaps the most unconventional path of any stanley cup winning coach. So take us back to the late. Nineteen ninety s. What was john. Cooper's lifelike at that time he was living in a condo east lansing area couple remains but he was just trying to figure out where you wanted to be in his life. What he wanted to do for work. He was good ball. Charismatic lawyer but his heart wasn't in it always always wondering when is the fulfillment. When are you going to sit there and wake up every day and say. I can't wait to go do what i'm gonna do. He was defender district court in lansing michigan about a thousand dollars a month. You know we're going for indigent clients. He was working on. du is having divorces. You've got a two person law. Office him in a paralegal. He's still didn't know i guess. Were taken at that point. And you got in touch with the judge. Who worked with jon cooper back. Then what did he say about cooper skills in the courtroom and you just notice and how clients clients listen to prosecutors respected him i think is the kind of ability that transcends coaching the ability to persuade players to adopt your system or just believe the approach. So you know. He's he's a good salesman. He always says convincing players. Convincing a jury and i don't think he knew then that it would be kind of the key to him. Maybe starting coaching career. So how did jon cooper go from being this lowly paid lawyer and a former lacrosse player. Who had only played a year of club hockey in college to being high school hockey coach. Well the run in his son playful lansing catholic high school and they needed a coach and so he knew of john skills on the ice and new of his charisma and then he is asked to one day in the building. I saw the coach. would you be interested. He looks at me and goes. Dc the stack of resumes. I have he says. I'll tell you one thing you coach kids high school hockey team and i will take your resume from here. We put it here. Just this exactly. That was his first kind of foray into coaching hockey. Was nine thousand nine hundred nine hundred thousand lansing catholic cougars hockey team and that was seventeen. You actually talked to some of the players on that lansing catholic team. What did they tell you about jon. Cooper the high school coach. I think what's interesting knees. They remember the first meeting in the cafeteria where he's using himself to like twenty kids and parents and those us have just nervous as they were and are waiting to hear whereas the hockey background. Who did he coach before. Because one of the red wings was he part of this huge talk about law school in wall street and this guy another guys were in the nhl players. Even highly college players inducted himself would be anywhere high in coaching world. A reflection of guys play together. I think they'll be the first ones to tell you. None of them really on the track to make the national hockey league but they were such a joy to be around the competed their butts off just line. Who an awkward gesture. The of funny kid and team talked about like there was a hill just a mile from the school that the workouts outside the big hill. The he must've just saw he was driving around and he made us run up this hill with do bear calls and stuff. That is the source. I've ever been my life like. I could not long like off chris. Monrovia now works the red wings. Illitch family talked about how they had this practice where they had no on the ice and they're doing push ups and sit ups and kristin ross. Who served in the military students in afghanistan he goes. I went through the army for seven years. And i went through a lot of work out a lot of hellish days. Afghans dead. That's one of those days that i think back much. It's not as bad as back. And what else did you learn about his coaching philosophy back. Then you know like what were the things that were important to him that he really emphasized to the team. Making guys feel connected or part of it no matter if you were the best player on this team or like the thirteenth forward and i think jeff swan is appropriate examples. "Welcome to the healthcare business. Secrets show we interview industry leaders and break down exactly how they dominating the markets so you can learn from the best and how to double your revenue w impact and w off in today's episode. We've got peggy brown. Picky brown is a dentist specializing in olympics. End smile design now. She's graduated from dalhousie dental school in two thousand one and started working with a partner in a group practice and in their practice she realized that her vision folks on designing smiles as the decided to creator unclogging that he also lectures digital workflow digital small design and marketing. The social media. Welcome to the sharpie. Thank you thank you james. Nice three here. Yeah so the reason i got on the show was because i wanted to really talk and dive into digital marketing dental practices and i think that not a lot of people are talking about this enough. We've got a lot of sort of old school practice development gurus out there who are who are teaching things that just maybe be going to work the same way going forward especially with the pandemic crisis at the moment and how we connect that clients build communities things like that. And so what i want you to do is just a bit of a rundown on your background. And how you've got to where you are to give some context. Yes i know it does. I'm gonna tell you does get mistaken for brown but there is no are my last name so no worries all the time. It's totally fine. But you know. I grew up in a little rural community the most easterly province of canada in disneyland and i moved to new brunswick want to become a dentist my whole life but i wanted to become a dentist not for the reasons you would think all want a good job and i wanted to become a dentist because i wanted to change public perceptions. Were making impact make people feel like i was made feel which was loud. This is a cool place to be. So i knew there was some potential for that and then of course i loved art and everything so i thought it could be a little artistic. That's gotten small designed by the way but you know. I really wanted to do something. Different always wanted that. When i graduated from housi- in two thousand one's of doing this almost twenty years. I went to practice like most dentists. Do and we just. I just did the day in day of dentistry. I did a lot of photography. I love that. But i really was a general dentist like most of us will graduate and we just have to learn and i guess you know ten or twelve years into my career. I have kids and all that. But then i was starting to really see and take other courses advanced courses in you know more complex cases and and and things like that and it led me to eventually in two thousand fifteen opening a brand new state of the art practice which was very forward very digital very modern and almost spa lake holiday spa. But it's very it's a different experience when you come here from the moment you walk into the your senses things you'll smell see or not smell. Dentistry doesn't smell very good. Most clinics don't but we make sure that we created like a really amazing experience and it's different so we do have a lot of patients will say. I'm never been in a dental honey like this before or i've never had anyone explained that have invested in a lot of technology and things like that that will allow me to wow the patients from the gecko. So they're very first visited the word. Wow comes out of their mouth many times now. most. I don't know again. I am biased. Because i don't get to go to a clinic or be that patient but generally a lot of patients they know they have to see the dentist. They get in there. It's the same thing they've always done. They've always and they expected and they don't expect anything greater. But i like to. It's an element of delay. Or surprise. And i really do focus on sensory experience but also just that caring and showing them that we care about the modern and what's really available in the world right now and giving them the best. Open that clinic odds in five years in may that we open that and you know. I knew that people needed to know who i was. No one knew. I was dentist in general practice. So what got me into marketing. Specifically i know not only was opening my own. Sonic i needed to let everybody know who. I was what that was about so i began with facebook. Like you would in an instagram. Shortly after i did so well with instagram than i was lecturing about better within like a year and a half because none of my colleagues partisan really big groups of dentists across canada than us especially and everybody was like. How are you doing that. Why are you know why are you doing that. So we started that way. My interest in it just is fair. I'm very passionate about sharing that. Dentistry is good and dentistry can be better but also i just love the element of being creative. So i have. That reigns works with me and guess what it also helped me grow and explode my business. Oh it's just been incredible seeing the change in five years. I can't imagine if i had done it but the drive was to make sure that people knew who i was because i was just another dentist in a general practice so just came out of okay. I just opened this clinic. Nobody knows how. I'm here. So i didn't even put my number in the telephone book. I was so over that i felt that that was not a very good way to show people who i was so i went on and did a lot of other platforms have youtube channel as well about dentistry link. Dan facebook instagram and Yes someday maybe i'll have a podcast. You never know

This kid in Arizona didn't want to go to the tire shop yet again for works. We faked his own kidnapping. Complete with calling the authorities and they're being taken to the hospital and then realizing you have no injuries. And so Connor is here to tell us the three best things about faking your own kidnapping. Connor take it away. All right. D a number one is the most simple of them all. You just get the day off. You know, sometimes you don't feel like going to work. You're tired. Maybe you had a little too much to drink the night before and you just can't do it. So why use one of your vacation days? Save those for the summer. Instead you get some duct tape. You get some zip ties. You get a Sharpie and pretend you have a black eye and bam! Enjoy the day. Take a load off. You can sit down watch some daytime TV. Maybe a little Jerry Springer crack open a nice cold Capri sun. You conduce you whatever you would like, and you know, back in the day I was a cabana boy at the beach Cabana burst, and I prefer to be called a cabana man. But that's neither here nor there Some days it would be scalding hot. You're sweating. You're tired. And then some guy would show up with a family of four. And for some reason, he would need 12 umbrellas, 25 chairs and seven tables and I have no idea why. I wish I knew. Then what I know now now, I wouldn't know what to do. They say Hey, Connor, can you come in tomorrow? No. Sorry. I have plans to get kidnapped. I can't do it. What about next Wednesday? Sorry. No, I'm feeling a hostage situation coming on. I can't come in. Being bang boom. I'm out of work. And instead of working at the beach, I'm hanging out on the beach with a pinnacle autumn. Be a man. Another guy serving a total of 100 years, Okay? Your wish is my command. That's what they call me. The genie. I'll bring you back and you'll rot. No wish is my command don't have to put him in a different part of the prison because they were allowed to do a lot of different things that you put him in the ground again. We don't have to worry about that. I get it. Yeah, you have to. They need to be in a maximum security. Obviously, after this I would say so. I mean, there was a $70,000 reward. You just look at these two guys. And just like Hey, Here's a question. You see them in your cop. You call your body and go do call in right now. Give a tip that you see them. We'll split the cash. I don't think cops do that. Call in brother? Yeah, and we'll get going to split the cash. But if there's a basketball tomorrow morning in my yard, not gonna say anything, You helped lead me to the arrest. That's all I'm saying. Well, they could probably trace that call. SportQuake CEO on Launching EsportQuake, Getting Cristiano Ronaldo into Garena Free Fire
"Fire at freeflyer is actually one of my favorite games to focus out of the Esports gaming world right now due to its massive success primarily in Brazil, which also makes it a natural choice for football partnership home considering Brazil's love of football going back decades and this partnership centered around operation quota, which debuted in December and allowed players of free fire to play em as Cristiano Ronaldo the which is pretty cool deal Matt. How did that deal come about? What was the process like to bring one of the biggest names in the world? It's Sports in other entertainment and so like Liberty into a mobile Battle Royale greater freefire. Yeah, it was it was a really exciting project to work with the guys on Thursday from the whole kind of ideation and blueprint of the idea through to the the integration and Page the final execution both in terms of the in-game integration and and the marketing around the partnership I think life to start at the beginning. I set up sport Quake fifteen years ago, and I had a background in media and Thursdays soccer or football a depending on what we're calling it today, and I'd worked at a number of large advertising agencies and then moved into sport media page. With Sky Sports is the Premier League host broadcaster and then spent four years as commercial director at Tottenham Hotspur, which is one of the big three London football franchises wage. And when I set up sport quake in that time over the. I view is very much that we're in a world where they, you know Sports Media Tech and gaming increasingly are coming more and more together and we're seeing lots of really really interesting collaborations as a result of that and primarily right. It's about bringing these two different audiences together to create more impact and awareness. And so as you and and your listeners, no doubt will be aware or if not, you know free fire, which is owned. No, Karina which is part of the C group. We've worked with the c group to some time and we've worked with an e-commerce business they have which is very strong in Southeast Asia that offers a service similar to Amazon in those markets and see is actually the best performing Chef globally over the last twelve months. I think it's kind of five EXT over the last twelve months and is within that organization as the e-commerce business Sharpie. It has to read free flight and we're done some work with with Sharpie with Ronaldo in the fall of 2018 and it performed extraordinarily well and through that and then relationships with out throughout the group the guys that Greener thoughts. It could be something here to do something with him as well. But with their own sort of twist and that was really where the kind of Genesis of the idea came from to bring his audience and IP together with With Their audience and they obviously are the the number one game. If not, the number one guy one of the the very top games in the world. I mean, I think they have something like two hundred and fifty million downloads and a hundred million daily sneezes and and Ronaldo himself in terms of his social media following putting aside what he delivers through the TV platform around baseball games. He his social media follow me is is the biggest in the world or anyone right? So he's got over for bigger than the cardassians bigger than J Lo and a dog Oh force and he's got something like four hundred and fifty million plus followers. And so the idea was to bring these two giants together in Partnership. Absolutely. I pulled up the list of the most played mobile games by player count and you said four hundred fifty billion. That's exactly what grade at last reported. According wage is article it August 2019, but they were one of the most downloaded mobile games in the world in 2019 to your point and have driven just a pretty insane bout of viewership at my favorite example of just sort of how big Great a free-fire is is the Esports organization loud gave a down in Brazil. They launched in I think mid June 2018 and have crossed their one point seven billion views on their YouTube channel for comparison the FaZe Clan account, which has been running for ten years now and has numerous viral videos is that just over what billion views so two years loud gaming which focuses almost entirely a great a free fire has completely surpassed FaZe Clan's called Dead output. Yeah, really quickly that just kind of gives you an idea of hey, this is how popular this game is. And and I think really where their their their view was listen, and as the market leader, we really want to lead and and and set the agenda and you know clearly we have as you just said large choice, you know of of of of gamers in terms of you know, everything from Hardcore to get real Gamers, but there's something really exciting here that we think we could do to Delight. Both are are cool gaming fans while also bringing in even more mainstream players to the game and also just kind of Setting the agenda for the industry in terms of you know, this is how you do these collaborations. Absolutely, that's really crucial to and let's talk a little bit about that collaboration. We you mentioned how everything is coming together and free fire it off is actually representation of just how far Tech has advanced recently. What do you think about what mobile games were even four or five years ago to the point that there now seems reals which is the most server intensive Gabe that you could a badge it with 100. I'm not sure how many people actually drop into free-fire but you know, the typical number is 100 people dropping in at the same time as to do that auto mobile photo, but will technology and something that old he became possible in the last few years. And now you also see at the same time the ability to bring Cristiano Ronaldo into the game and that's something that you know, we've seen with games like FIFA in the past where they model people they model real athletes in those situations, but there's something different to bring home. Into a battle royale, I'd have the play a character this case kro. Do what had to happen on the back end to make this a reality. Was there any hesitation for any of the parties about potential free Christian although into a game like free fire? Yeah, so so obviously we've worked with Ronaldo and his people a number of times before the great relationship with them. And as I say, he had worked with us before with their e-commerce business shopping and so there was a relationship with the group home and we obviously talked him through the the opportunity. We Karina and very much felt that the worst some things to be aware of around the table game it was but that if we executed it in in the right way that it could be really amazing. And so, you know and and back to your point about the the quality of of tech and delivery nowadays, you know and and huge shout-out to to Garena, you know, they they they pull together this amazing kind of personality and character both conceptually and also graphically off and it was developed in conjunction with Cristiano and his team as well in terms of the various things that he could do and so forth and so, you know the exit the idea Asian execution that have been phenomenal when as you say that, you know, we wouldn't be able to do that if if take wasn't where it where it is where is today off? But yes, it's it's really it's really amazing and the thing that's so you

Your income can give you freedom insecurity. Well this story illustrates it really well and it also happens with no debt and very little stress so perhaps the archetype of a model to follow no debt very little stress increasing your freedom and security stories called floridian finds fair value flipping furniture in. Yes i did have fun coming up with that title. The stories coming up in just thirty seconds in two thousand twenty one. A truly diversified portfolio needs more than the mix of stocks bonds and mutual funds. It really needs private. Real estate studies have shown that portfolios with an allocation to private real estate generally delivered a better risk adjusted return with more annual income and lower volatility over the past two decades now with fundraise. This level of powerful diversification is available to you. Fundraise has been a partner of the show in the past. But i also use fund rise. I am a fundraiser investor myself. That's not something. I am required or even encouraged to do but i have really been personally impressed with the platform so i started talking about this in conversations that are completely unrelated to the podcast. So i think they're doing something really really interesting. I want to encourage you to see for yourself. How one hundred and thirty thousand. Investors have built a better portfolio with private real estate. It takes just a few minutes to get started. Go to fundraise dot com slash side-hustle today that's f. u. n. t. r. e. dot com slash side-hustle conroy's dot com slash side hustle ryan krones inspiration for his side. Assault came from a close source. His wife jessica late two thousand eighteen just restored their running room furniture to reflect a farmhouse style. One morning shortly after ryan was getting ready for his job and call center management. They got to talking. Jessica mentioned people would pay good money for refurbished furniture. Like how much right asked probably five hundred dollars for a dining room table. Jessica set intrigued. Ryan asked her to teach him how she painted their table. She did and within a week. Ryan was restoring an old dresser. They purchased for thirty dollars off facebook marketplace. The restoration involved ryan putting on a new coat of paint which only took a couple of hours as well as fifty dollars in supplies. This included a ten dollar paintbrush amazon along with the paint from lowe's although he had no previous refurbishing experience ryan realized. He loved the task when he listed the dresser back on facebook marketplace. It's sold within two hours for one hundred and fifty dollars. He and jessica were shocked at how quick it happened. It wasn't much work for a seventy dollar profit and even better. This was the first time they tried my able to replicate or even improved results. So for the next piece ryan refurbished up to the sale price. It sold in less than a day bufton polish with success. He started searching for more pieces of furniture at garage sales auctions and on facebook. He didn't have a truck at the time so he would borrow one from family or friends in order to source multiple pieces in a single day after refreshing them with paint or stain he would list them online with each one profit between one hundred and fifty to two hundred and fifty dollars since you've listed solely on facebook marketplace and didn't advertise ryan didn't have to pay any costs for marketing is. He began to scale up. He would work on several separate pieces at once. He devised a rotation process in his garage which allowed him to apply three coats to three or four pieces a day. You got even faster once. He learned how to do. Stained wood tops. This feature increased the value of his furniture still further. It allowed him to take a fifty dollar dresser and sell it for up to three hundred dollars in fact. Here's a fun anecdote. Brian purchased one particular piece from a garage sale. For fifteen dollars. Hit looked on. Its own so he ended up selling it as for two hundred dollars not a bad return on investment for practically no work the most challenging part of this project was learning the technique of making furniture reflect that farmhouse style. He messed up a bunch of pieces because he didn't apply the paint or stay in a certain way. Sometimes he could recover them sometimes not sometimes he would distress the coats of paint too much but through trial and error ryan perfected the skill. The furniture flipping continued part time for several months. Meanwhile he was growing more and more than happy. It is corporate job so in august. Two thousand nineteen jessica convinced him to quit and try flipping furniture fulltime. He finally got his own truck and focused on the furniture. Business bringing in between two thousand and three thousand dollars a month. Although this was less than he made it as corporate job he was much more content. Ryan did this for about nine months. Also helping out with jessica's wedding photography business earlier this year. He got a chance to go back to work in call center management but with a twist. This time he found a dream job working remotely as a supervisor. This rule enables him to be close to his family also getting a regular paycheck with benefits. He's quick to note that the furniture flipping business will always be one of his reliable income. Sources it's not mentally taxing and he rebels in the opportunity to be creative. Best of all it serves as a solid backup plan so check this out. This story is a wonderful example of something that anybody can do. And when i say anybody can do like let me just kind of break this down because you might think. Well i'm not handy. I'm not either just just to be clear but it's not so much about being handy. Renovating is a lot like reselling of any form so reselling. I sometimes say one way or another. Everybody can do it. So maybe furniture isn't your market. What about computers or cameras or cars or high end kitchen blenders or upscale fashion items. These are just a few markets in which it's possible to make a good profit by acquiring items on making some kind of change or improvement and then selling those items to a new owner now. The chain improvement can be something substantial. You could be like overhauling the entire car. Let's say it can be maybe somewhere in the middle like a lot of furniture renovation is. it can't be purely aesthetic. In some cases you do run into situations like the dope from ryan where he found something and then thought about making a change to it but decided it's actually pretty good as it is in that case he paid a pretty low price borden was able to resell it for for a fantastic profit margin. So that doesn't happen all the time of course but you know as you kind of delve into this. Sometimes it does so. It's one of these things that everybody can do. If you're trying to figure out what's my next. How can i create a source of income. That is a good back-up plan for me. Something in this direction is worth considering. So i'm gonna leave you with today. Inspiration is good but inspiration with action is so much better.

"Focus on weather. Forecasting and climate science is likely to be a high priority under president biden and it begins with staffing at the top washington post capital weather gangs. Andrew friedman wrote about the possible scenarios for noah. Hi andrew welcome to climate cast off. Let's talk about the biden cabinet appointments so far one thing that jumps out at me andrew. There are so many with climate expertise and focused john. Kerry as climates are on the national security council. pete buttigieg at transportation jennifer granholm at energy. What do you make of these leaders. Strong climate focus. It doesn't look like an accident to me. Yeah no really. The administration is approaching an all hands on deck strategy for climate change rather than putting that just in the hands of the epa administrator and maybe the energy secretary they're putting that everywhere so you heard their nominee janet yellen for treasury secretary mentioned climate change in her interest speech Also the national economic council chair of brian niece has a significant climate experience. This is really going to cross pollinate the government agencies foreign wide. Honey you think. The new noah leadership will be substantially different than it. Is today you know. The noah leadership under president trump has been competent jacobs who has a phd and is a meteorologist by background. Really knows that issue in really knows the agency warehouse but he was hamstrung and didn't even have the ability to send an all hands email without running it by political appointees at the department of commerce. He wasn't able to pick his top staff including chief-of-staff so really what you're going to see is a administration that thinks the real while. Okay we're going to have this person as administrator what do they need to support them. In these other several roles that are politically appointed. How will climate change science and communications. Be different. i think there's going to be a much greater role They're gonna put more of an emphasis on the national climate assessment which has been something that the trump administration tried to walk away from and then has tried to interfere with. So it's gonna be much more of noah in the lead when it comes to scientific integrity andrew. We all remember sharpie gate. When president trump doctored a hurricane map how will the biden administration sharpie proof noah they need to make some changes to the scientific integrity policy. Because what happened was that episode was judged to have violated their scientific integrity policy but they were absolutely no consequences for it because it doesn't apply to the department of commerce. It applies only to noah so the department of commerce leadership told no they had issued a statement disavowing. they're actually accurate forecast and They weren't punished or so they're going to have to make some changes also though i think whoever is brought in noah leadership is going to come and on day one knowing that they have some morale issues and knowing that the half to reassure people about the scientific integrity of the agency on the premium placed on sound science andrew friedman with washington post capital weather. Gang for sharing your perspective on climate casts. Today thank you for having me.

"Hello sweet friends. Happy 2021 welcome into the new year. I don't know about you but this has felt like a more. I don't know that lackluster is the word i've just been really kinda like jello easing into the new year. I think that last year we had such kind of clear strong intentions and this year. We have so much humility about how little control we have. It is still a little bit hard to comprehend that. We are still in the midst of this pandemic and we still don't really know when the end is in sight and so i just i talk a lot in my goal planning. I have for years. I've taught this the content that eventually became the elegant excellence schools journal. I've used the phrase watercolor instead of sharpie for how we draw out our plans that it doesn't mean that we don't paint and vision cast and and hold the vision of the beautiful thing that we want to create but we do it with the humility of watercolors that it is not. We can't make a sharpie version of a ten year plan or one year plan or a three month plan or sometimes seven day. One week plan. That is never going to get off track when someone gets sick and there's a family emergency and you're feeling low energy and a new opportunity comes your way a myriad of different things that can happen so we've always known that was the case. I think we are just more faced with it than ever before and also i've really just been reflecting. I know we keep talking about what a big year. Twenty twenty was. But i've really spent some time thinking about. Why was it so powerful. So poignant so impactful what were the molting things that really many years from now we would reflect back on why this was just such a unique year so today i want to chat about six different things that i saw throughout this year in the conversations that you and i had specifically over on instagram stories where we talk the most openly the most vulnerable the most daily and the reporting things that came up that i saw us have new. Aha's are in our growth or change and just invite you to listen and ask yourself in each area. What did i learn for myself. What did change in this area and starting off with what might be a light area for some. It was a really powerful area for others. Which is where we live yo. There were so many people specifically in new york city where my husband and i live that left the city. I've had one of my best friends. One of my bridesmaids has been living with her parents for ten months. Another of my best friends live with their parents for four months. That is unprecedented. That is highly unique. We have a lot of us that maybe you moved. Maybe you had family move in or near you. Maybe you realized what you love about your home more than ever. You may have been more grateful for your home. you may have been more. You may have realized that you want different things in your home that your home is more important than you realized. Now that you were there More often maybe you realize you. It bothers you more at that. You don't live near to family when there are emergencies like this. You want to be physically closer you. I do think it made me feel more drawn towards wanting to be nearer to my family doesn't mean that we are moving to california ever or anytime soon but i did have more of a poll of that this year than ever before i also realized for myself that i love new york city even when i don't leave my apartment just the vibe of being in new york city and i've always said that i've always known because i've just never been that girl like i don't go to big restaurant openings. I'm not constantly at a broadway show but there's just something about being in the city and that was just amplified for me to say i don't. It's not about getting on the subway. It's not even going into manhattan. It's not leaving my neighborhood. But i just do have so much joy where i live. But i also was able to articulate in a previous podcast episode that identify vibe is what really matters to me and that can exist a lot of different places and that's been really helpful and informative as my husband. Jeremy and i have been having more conversations this year about our future and really kind of coming back to the the vied matters to us. What does that feel like. Look like where else could that exist. We love our life in new york city but we don't see ourselves living there long term. So what else might that look and feel like so. I'm curious for you. What did you learn about where you live. And is that going to change anything. Did it change meeting this year or might it change anything in the years to calm even if that is simply gratitude.
