"We are shining that Spotlight on Scioto services and Amy Rasmussen is joining us now to Thursday is all about Scioto services. So I need the first of all thanks for joining us today. Thank you Catherine. You guys are Sharonville company National company, but locally headquartered in Sharonville. Tell us what you do. So we are a cleaning service provider. We do cleaning for facilities everything from commercial office space manufacturing education home here. Basically everything that is in the commercial space. Well, there's really nothing more important right now than cleaning as we all returned back to whatever normal looks like let's talk about that and how your thoughts of of what you do has changed since go visit sure. So, you know, we we're certainly proud to be in the spotlight, you know customers used to see cleaning as something that was more of a very tail concept get it done but we don't want to see it. So, you know pushing a janitor cart through a hallway is is not the image. We really think of or desire in a class A office space before covid-19. So again perception, it's it's all changed before no one really wanted to pay us to wipe down a door knob. You know, that was an unseen task. It was an unseen service. It just wasn't something we did and now all those things are are being added back into scopes of work. I really we only saw in the medical space and now it's it's also coming into the light of back to what I said about before instead of somebody back in the in the background and and kind of hidden we're actually being asked to make sure they are seen so we are presenting them at certain times of the day. So that customers employees can see that they're being taken care of and and feel more comfortable in the facilities that they're in we've spoken with restaurants that have seemingly gone through the same thing and I'm very, you know, nice restaurants don't you don't want somebody wiping down a table next to you, but now you do you want to see those things happen. So how has you know, your birth? Kind of Labor had to maneuver and and pivot like the rest of us as well. But especially within that cleaning space to make sure that they're doing all the things that they need to be doing but also visibly doing sure will you know cleaning is is traditionally defined as an unskilled labor. So just think of that for a moment that this is an unskilled labor and now we're pushing in all all these these things that need need to be known by the person that's is providing the service so think about what what's on the page p a list that kills covid-19. Oh, first of all, we have to make sure that that we're providing the right chemicals, then there's dwell times. So now we we're teaching our own boat unskilled laborer to be mindful of the time that they're applying the disinfectants that they're using. There's PPE requirements. There's document job..

"That I assume one. Breaking loose if you want to bring your pets and sit on the patio. That's probably. It. You guys have figured somehow. To fill that void that I think it needed to be especially here in Sharonville. Stupid that there's not a brewery here yet, but. We did have the. To step in at a level that. People were trying to get to now, so we had a blank slate. Asphalt parking, lot right, and so we could design things in that. We could pay for now that we weren't going to pay for five years from now read, so we were able to put some of those elements in our to plan and being I can't tell my brewers. I've been in my lifetime. It takes some good things out of those, and you try and try and bring them in the process, and then you have a plate. That's two full, and you have to pair them down, but I think we did a pretty good job with our environment and and. We get a lot of good good reviews. The community loves US because like you said there is nothing in Sharonville, wouldn't you? Guys have started to scratch the surface of what this location really is. You've got the convention. Center, across the street. You've got hotels all over around you. There's this whole other side of this. When people are traveling to the people, do travel here They're going to be pleasantly surprised. You know can't tell you how many times I've been out of town and you start looking around the shit. It's Fridays,.

"Of quarantining the news came out this week that city gospel mission one of the top downtown homeless shelters made the decision at that thought it was really caught my eyes the decision to work out a deal with the Clarion hotel in Sharonville to have thirty seven knowing almost four years yeah thirty six what I read in the choir was thirty seven men homeless men who were coming to the shelter to I'm not staying in the shelter but to go to stay in the hotel there in Sharonville working out a deal trying to make sure everyone is safe and socially distanced and the mission just as great work full disclosure when I took a break from journalism for a few years I worked there as a public relations director and it was just an awesome experience and one of the reasons why it was an awesome experience was because of my next guest vice president of city also mission Paul Spence who was happened to be my boss at the time during my time there there's also been a more importantly has been leading the way here along with them the president city also mission Roger how and all my friends and in such a great great staff who were there truly care about people and helping the homeless and the poor in our community and what they've been doing through this discovered nineteen crisis has been nothing short of just amazing and I am absolutely not surprised at all because that's what they do they're there to help people they're there to put aside they they don't they don't do politics they don't do you know the all that stuff all it's it's about helping people get out of poverty and moving on with their lives and and and trying to live productive lives so I'd like to welcome in my good friend Paul Spence Paul how you doing I'm doing good hi Jason good high talk talk about it in the mail I'm seeing the mission and once it I'm getting text messages I'm seeing you guys in the news I'm I'm seein city gospel mission everywhere in the response that the mission has had to this this crisis is just like I said it's been amazing talk a little about the process of of you know this coming at you guys in and how you know you made the decisions to do what you've done yeah it's we've been doing like everybody else dancing it daily all right I heard your your pastor talking about you know on Thursday you're talking about cleaning the church and then the next day you know figure out how you're gonna do church online and it's a lot like do you know one day it how we gonna distance people end up bring the comedian for dinner but put them in a different room and then the very next day we're serving meals out the door so that we're not exposing to groups of people and then led to you know over the last two weeks really talking hotels and figuring out but seventy four beds in the emergency shelter for men and we figured out that if we can cut that in half we can create the social distance not building that we need to continue to operate our current facility but then where we gonna put the thirty seven guidance that we talked to a handful of hotel that really stepped up and they would consider and the color and what was the one and they've been absolutely fabulous the study you know we we want you will directly reduce the rate will provide breakfast for June anyway you need will give you that the meeting rooms and nurses stations and everything else that you need but they've been absolutely fabulous in offering and the outlook for days so my question is then are the folks who are staying there do they just stay in the rooms all day then or today other activities for obvious you have to be socially distance do the guys the men who were staying man the hotel we will what what are their days like yeah hi our date program managers really trying to create the same schedule for two facilities Maunsel program working will continue but you know it's six feet apart and so if if the guys are in the designated smoking areas are going to be sixty apartment there in the common area they're going to be six feet apart to help in the management of the bathroom after the okay enough to me but people move after a long time in a culturally obviously the hotel they've got their own room that's a lot easier to social business but during mealtimes breakfast is delivered at their door at the hotel but even having like ten guys at a time come down to lunch in the dining hall in the banquet area so we're we're figuring out how to operate a hotel too and there's been so far pretty smooth but you know a lot of things to figure out you like look I'm gonna put out coffee and then once we've met Paul yeah although they would push it it's been a challenge property people believe and try to figure out how to basically open up a new shelter I'll talk with Paul Spencer vice president city also mission homeless shelter in you know in as you say over the Rhine we used to be in over the Rhine now in the west in at a wonderful facility there to serve they're hurting soaks in our in our community men and women on the on the men's side we're talking about you know seventy four spaces for emergency shelter men to come in every day there's day programming at the at the mission there and the west's sorry quick queen's gate so then our our folks it it our folks are staying in emergency shelter data down in queen's gate still are they then do they leave for the day and come back or is it is it is our their schedules changed now because of this virus to they just stay in the mission all day long what you know how yeah how's that how's that being handled it we're taking our lead problem you know what the healthcare official there and what the government allies everything is mandating so same thing goes for you know the minute shelter we wanna trying to cooperate but let them live life to NGL Fassel we do monitor where they're going and do you know what everybody comes back we were washing hands were taking temperatures really monitoring the health of people in the population that really aren't a lot of math curriculums of already weak where the hyper vigilant about taking those temperatures making sure that you know and we've been blessed so far the code is not and I got in the doors we've been able to prevent it so far but we are ready if if somebody presents were ready to lock in a quarantine and we've got we've got a procedure in place just in case that happens and you have great partnerships with with the hospitals in in in did you have I think you haven't do you have medical folks there on site as well we don't have medical personnel on site every day but we do have nurses that come back and show up at least twice a week and that definitely on call if we need them and yeah we're we're very thankful for that one thing I wanna ask you by no Paul you are on the cutting edge of of keeping in line up with the latest in in trying to help people and care for folks who are interested in experiencing homelessness does going to conferences and checking best practices is that it is the homeless population you maybe have more of an at risk you know there's been so much talk in this country right now about you know the elderly and pre existing condition folks who Africans who who are you know added highly at risk he is the homeless population as well and no one that you know what yes it is yeah sorry yes it's so you know you think about a population that they don't go to the doctor via the emergency room and when they got on the murder scene where it's really bad so these are people that don't self care very well you know a lot of mental illness and people on the streets and they needed support mainly supported housing for the day we have a trouble adding an empty drawing boundaries in their own lives and so we have to to help them draw those boundaries and he'll the colleges for themselves and so if you have a lot of coaching it's a lot of you know consent kind of adult parenting and we we kind of hate that commercial relational but yeah our job is to try to get these guys ready to move out in the into permanent housing eventually and to be on their own and can never be almost again is it higher well not right now yes did we move the case forward and keep them safe falter thank talked about ten seconds here I know you guys are in need of toiletries and donations what's the best place folks can go to a to donate yeah I go to synagogue mission dot org and there's a place that get involved and there's a a list of goods that you can donate if people want to donate goods are definitely money is really helpful work we are not allowing volunteers to come in the dorsal staff working overtime so there a lot of added expenses right now for us I think it's important know that the organization is entirely driven by private donations and the private support of just you know good folks there that doesn't take government money and so at times like this the private donations are are just that much more critical they are in the week we do receive a tiny bit of government itself okay gotcha welcome five percent of our total dollars our government some ninety five percent of trip into the community I got to say thank you to the operator can be Cincinnati because people have really stepped up we have a lot of food donations come in and we got a lot of toiletries common and but as people with very supportive during this time and so I'm very thankful for the community will of that good stuff Paul thanks so much city council mission dot org check it out let's go to the news here on newsradio seven R. "On the big stories of the day today in a show right here on five seventy KLIF. IBM the laundry turn up you know it was good everything went well it did turn out okay. it means we I think everybody can relate to this week well everybody was apparent at least but in his oldest daughter is in college we we way far away yes and the kids go to college they they call mom frequently. actually I should feel good that she's texting might rise absolutely I remember calling my mom I didn't go to college but I was in my own apartment a caller trying to fix dinner and I'm asking advice about how to do this and that the other thing it seems that the laundry machine the washing machines where she's staying where she's living this year are from nineteen twenty. it's a good thing. how to make cold water and I thought I thought that was a little confusing to the picture yes yeah right because she sent pictures it said war and water temperature very it was very confusing warm high but it didn't show again means of selecting. extremely confusing still I'm amused when kids do that they reach out to moms several thousand miles away when they have. other people in the building you probably know the answer to the question that that would be embarrassing why. I don't know. and is probably no one up at that hour turned out okay though no it was awfully yeah she's a morning person so in Sharonville Ohio a guy is confused and I don't blame him. I do blame him for what he did but I I don't blame them for being confused because these days very very difficult to figure out what the marijuana laws are in this country especially with regard to any specific town or city a man was confused and called the police department commanding officers return the small amount of marijuana they quote unquote stole from him. he told a sure and bill Sharonville police dispatcher in an expletive laced call now hang on a second you don't call the police department in start throwing out F. bombs now that's just not a good idea like you don't do that if an officer stops you write a very polite yes Sir no Sir yes ma'am no ma'am but he was complaining he said it's legal to possess three and a half ounces of marijuana and the amount of office that amount officers took from him was just. point one four ounces well from Ohio cities have decriminalized proposition it remains illegal in the state right the I guess you got to know where you are and apparently Sharonville is the guy was just a computer but I can imagine that this is a problem all over the all over the country don't you know it every federally if you can't cross the border with it like the canon and back. know what it is in Dallas I believe they will give you one ticket now I think they decriminalize certain amount but I don't know if that's just in the city right. have to worry about it because I don't smoke pot well I don't either but the I'm weird no never mind no I'm just saying I don't care a suicide in one you think that I knew what the last well I was the numbers I was exhibiting and so it's illegal in this I mean is legal in the city of Dallas it but if you go to plan or something you might rest I don't know I don't know all right the Dallas opera has let's move on Adele's opera has canceled a scheduled event with Pacific Placido Domingo following more accusations of sexual harassment. perfect Dallas woman is among one of the eagle Levin new a chance coming forward and she has really surname forty eight year old Angela Turner Wilson she's a college voice teacher at the T. C. I can understand that okay I can understand. those upper management saying you know. maybe we'd just better a pass on plus it right now. I can I can I can get it because they they probably got many many subscribers and donors donors who are not comfortable don't want him to come now because of the allegations against him but and I don't think they should I don't think they should go as they did and say the reason they're canceling it was because of the ongoing of. the ongoing accusations. don't blame the guy for something he's not been convicted of day I know that when there's smoke there's fire but yes just like anyone else they deserve their day in court. be guilty of all of this stuff all these allegations but all you have to say Dallas opera is our members our sponsors are are not comfortable they don't want him to come here so we are can't let that's good enough your private organization you have every right to do they I think they do get some public fine well I don't know but what difference would it make you know just come out and say it like it is instead of. in the M. implying that you're convicting this guy before he's even gone to trial no no that's what we've done in the whole hashtag me to move that's true. it's absolutely true whether it's right or wrong I'm a. you know but we've gotten to a point in this country new and I have discussed this with anyone can accuse anyone of any use of anything and just the accusation makes you guilty these days even if and then you're done in their career is that right. you don't have an opportunity to disprove things anymore and even if you're guilty of something that happened thirty years ago that's coming back to haunt people is is you you can't you can't make amends. it's it's a terrible state of affairs are we just gonna be budget. gossip somebody busy bodies on a national level eight forty five let's get update on traffic.

"Latest the wheel this car. Call anything a car computer is a wheel car, computer. Got little can of worms apparently. Original caller there. Susan or Suzanne of lit up the the inbox over over here. People wondering if she was just a cranky vegan. I don't know. But she was somewhat upset with the with the world. And then he got upset. Well, she got upset yesterday suggested the white privilege thing, it really doesn't exist because it doesn't you? You can. You can continue to lag behind in life. Because here's the problem. You've got a lot of people out there who are convincing you as a minority that there's no reason to try because they'll never let you get ahead. And then you wonder why people aren't trying now it's leftists who tell you this. Stop listening to people who are telling you that there are people going to stop you from being all you want to be in life because it stops people from trying to be all they can be. For decades is this analogy if you were coaching basketball team when you told them listen, it's gonna be rough out there. You're running up hill on the court. Your basket is two feet taller than there's the refs are against you. The crowd hates you gonna show up for practice. Why do you keep preaching such negativity to people instead of encouraging people because you're leftists? And you like to think that somehow your better than the people on the right who are the horrible people who are gonna stop all these other people of color from getting anywhere in life. And then they don't try and that somehow the self fulfilling prophecy, it drives me nuts. People can't realize the devastation. They leave in their wake. All right L. What's going on? How you doing? Al delayed me, Alan sharonville. That's you. Good morning. Thank you. I just wanted to speak to the facts that pecan can now I don't know win. This native American actually served in the military.
