"To a new house in or get a new phone because you know back when we were younger we. We spoke with our our our house phone but here. It's so easy to go when you're changing phone carriers or something going on and it's easy to change your phone. Numbers were easier than it used to be so Keep your microchips updated. Keep your pet. Id tags updated just so that in case something happens you're not having you're not you know besides yourself not being able to find your dog and people can't get in touch with you when you do if something ever did happen and you know just is very healthy today that Just check it once a year. Another new year's resolution is to consider fostering now that is kind of how we got things started with Working with dogs definitely foster fails we. We started with shar pei's and loved the dog so much before we met i was i. We're in reading showing sharpei. We got into a fostering thing. A group in florida fostering sharp. Yes we wound up. Keeping a couple and sony and touchy great. Both passed on. Yes sad this year's the joni joanie was sixteen. This this june old pass a sharper. They usually their life spans about ten. Yeah but You know she. She was a tough cookie man that that one was one dog. I have never had so much trouble with this far as she was very street. Smart she was and she was in her later years. She calmed down a bit finally but she's very smart. We miss her and you know we. We just loved her but yeah fostering is you know even though we're breeders man. Every dog needs a home. Every dog deserves a home. So you know you can have. You can have a full. You know a full blooded dog you can have a mutt. It doesn't matter. They all love you the same and one other thing by the way and just one other note on. Fostering if you haven't had a pet yet that's a good way to see if be able to hand is to foster one and if you can't handle it the organization obviously we'll take it back but it will also show you if you're going to be able to handle the responsibility of having a pet with anything that we've talked about. It's been the responsibility that comes with having a pet or pass another thing on the list. Creating an emergency pet plan as the thing. A lot of people don't think about is up the man in case something happens now we we mentioned we have a lot of dogs. And we've thought a lot about this lately about Just transporting them should something happen to our facility. Our home whatever. How are we going to get all the fire. And how are we going to get them. All out quickly and safely you need to think about these things because you never know the.

"I've been in now since two thousand seventeen. I started as a volunteer. I volunteered my wife. Just who's the humane agent. She started she was a working and I had a lot of downtime in. I thought i would just start volunteering. So i would go up and just help and do whatever i could and then when it came time for me to be like i think i want you know i want a job or i wanna do something. They offered me a job. Because i had been bond tearing for a year and i was really fortunate that they did offer me a job because i was spending all of my time thinking dreaming about being a part of animal charity. So just gonna move my pillow from not the dogs. Their comfort come on. How many dogs do you have. Why have three. And the all special needs Yeah so it is. It is challenging. Because obviously when i got all three did not know they were special needs while actually allied my middle child Zeke i didn't know he was special need. That's why we got him. He had he was a breeder dog and he had severe anxiety they were going to be able to find him a home. ed's i was like just just. Gimme the puppy like wool. He'll be fine. You're like are you sure So that's obviously it's challenging but My oldest has epilepsy. And then my baby. Zack has It's called shar pei fever Stoppers from these really high fi burs. That only happened in the shar. Pei breed and there's no cure or rhyme or reason to them so every time. He spikes a fever. He has to go to the hospital and Get iv fluids and antibiotics and it's it's incredibly incredibly challenging. So i mean it is third your children and those things that you do for them right important as any other member of family. Yeah are you going to get any more so we joke in this so so so completely a joke but this one right here. I don't know if you can see him. His name z keys my one with anxiety and he actually is afraid of anything in life that has dark colored so Like i just put the sweater on in. He was terrified of it coats. Anything black brown navy blue anything dark in color. He's afraid of so we've gotten we've brought home fifteen different fosters and he didn't like any of them because they were either a black dog or with brown spots or deal. Yeah he was just a no then. We brought home zach. Who looks just like kim same color. And he's like this. Is my baby like this is my baby and he chose him until we always leave it up to our dogs to find the next one because there's always a need for a foster so it's easy for me to just bring him home and then find them a home through work But with zach him in my other dogs they bonded so well. So i mean i just two weeks ago. I had a puppy here. I bring 'em home all the time. But if my dog's decided like that one of the puppies i brought home as their pac member than they'll stay. Awesome the way to do it too. Yeah.

N. O. V. I. T. dot com hi and welcome back to coast to coast George don't worry with you and welcome to open lines Gina tells me we have doctor Kevin from Indianapolis on a first time caller line and let's get him on right now Kevin welcome to the show Dr thanks for calling hi George thank you very much for taking my call thank you actually the printer is I've listened to you for over ten years in the classified or is it like the first time I've ever stayed up late necklaces as well and the show live what kind of doctor are you from an infectious disease specialist hello I think we work as a nocturnal from critical care doctor at night and so I'm gonna wanna call about that yeah I mean I am I am the person who if you're sick coming to my hospital you need to be admitted on one given that okay and there are there are things that I'm hearing people talk about Justin social media a little bit on the show his mother places that I just I'm just hoping we could kind of talk for a minute and I just like to kind of get some things out from my perspective sure I love to hear it no one one thing that I know I guess product is that does this idea that code nineteen is really just a battler I assure you it is not just a bachelor I can probably count on my hand the number of P. people I've seen in the nap last number of years here died directly from England on scene you know people die every Monday after the second fire some having to make very hard phone calls defense from the family what are the ages of those people Dr generally yeah so I'm actually still in Indiana you can look up the Indiana state department of health their data and you can look right there that the death the people who are dying from that sad about ninety percent of them are eight six feet higher but it's also different graph on that you look at the number of people that what other cases and they flee a bell curve around the age of fifty and so on and making a lot of people who were in my age I'm in my forties forty six thirty forty fifty but yeah the people who are dying so far are the older people but don't let that kind of really hi something that's happening today if you don't work in a hospital you don't know there's a lot of younger people who are on ventilators I mean it in a hospital for a week or two they're very very sick yeah they may survive but there's a very high morbidity with this as well and that's something else I just don't think people know if you're not really seeing what we're seeing nothing compounding all this is that and I think they're really hard to deal with is that we're not allowing any visitors in office at all I thank you no I I don't blame you I don't blame you for that and you know friends and family they're not really seen you know they don't get a lot of one actually going through you what I'm calling and telling them about and I think that's another thing that kind of plays in here in the public a little bit less perception of how serious this is do you see that on here do you think Dr that this has been going on a little longer than people have said because of the because I probably thought it was the flannel yeah yeah yeah no doubt my mind we because of the fiasco with like a testing I mean we don't know we may never really know you know exactly the extent of this back in January I I I don't know and I wouldn't be so many years now you know what the problem is that there could be played back in December in United States but I mean I just I guess knows who's going around in January indefinitely February at least at least in the major cities where they've been taking a travel there were reports of in Washington area I believe there is I would call that a flu project that they're wanting to actually test samples of patients that you have the flu like illnesses testing for code nineteen I've lost track of the story but there is a story about a month to get where you know there are people the government telling them not to do that half I don't know why it's actually something you might want like it gets really interesting story but yeah that's weird I I think at some point there will be samples that were collected and they're just sitting in my house that they could go back into your prevalence studies and try to get a little bit better idea but I don't know honestly at this point I mean it's just it's there where you know kind of what's on my mind I need the phone if you don't care what happened what the Trudeau but but into that question yeah I mean I think as we go on a bit more look at longer than we all realized and we were able to test Dr are you seen more or less patients come into the hospital now hello that's actually another good question they give a little bit of this air of misunderstanding so our system our networks and that station had a written test maybe accreditation every Sunday I go over some stats and numbers if you were to look at an adventure a lot of other hospitals are given the same thing we're doing in other cities like ours but we're going we're moving heaven and earth to keep people from having to go to the hospital so if you just look at the numbers of patients at the hospital it's roughly the same if you compare today to this same time last year okay you're kind of looking for day to day or week the the the thing is is that that you the number of cases we have had a nice the level of the number of cases we have been a laters is double he usual the number of patients there and progressive care city the people on higher level level the box you know one not the double what we normally have I I work nights actually at noon yeah cover all that basically everybody's an awful that he on vacation the stuff and yeah I've had to ask for a second doctor help now and at I love are gonna want a smaller hospital network ease I can cover all that by myself but I need a second doctor be able to cover because that if we have one patient crashing on one floor that could be someone crashing another port that used to be able to cover that just one person so yeah if you look at the parking lot you don't see as many cars because we don't have those answers we have your patience yeah yeah because we're you know we have the same number of patients but the number of patients are sicker in double and usually when somebody when somebody dies Dr what what happens to them what kills them yes actually it was something off of what we talked about so if something unforeseen happens around is some version and correct me if it if it's different than that for this is how I'm interpreting this some version of doctors like eighteen death certificate or fighting them or something to that nature first of all that's fraud that the crime spree by one for Q. after Indiana we just had a webcast from the answer at the permanent health believe which is Thursday if I can actually this is a public but you they get so much traction in terms of how to thought that that's the big significant there's a certain way you do this so for example let's just say somebody has a killer nineteen and ammonia and as a consequence of that they developed a blood clot because their long which is actually something we're finding it's pretty darn common and let's just say that you know that decision like I've sold out I get tentative that it gets to the Cup last week myself thank someone and it looks like they most proximate Li died from the Homer and both of them are the the key yeah I would list that as the the the most proximate cause of death but that's going to be due to something else is going to do to that cover nineteen I mean it didn't happen if it wasn't for that that's still the cause of death really is that give nineteen anti get C. N. counted as one the number of heart attack or something something happens yeah I mean we were seeing I'm not seen not it's a little confusing because of the false negative rate and then these things like this but I think a couple younger people that wouldn't have otherwise thought he would have a heart attack and kind of wondering if it if it's related I'm partial to Catherine make is that thrombotic disease so you're at your body having blood clots you know whether it's you know you reach your long term your lake you know something happens in your heart actually funny that's pretty common thing that's being caused by this infection that we don't see we don't think we definitely and pointless how long how long Kevin do you think people can last who are not working now and you know need to get back to work this is a this is part of the horrible situation of this whole tragedy you're in when you're talking like a minute ago when you're talking about and the loss of like human interaction you know actually got me thinking because if some degree I don't know if I've noticed that so much because once the working in a hospital and around people right right but I've been off the last few days and I'm another thing you're talking about it like it was an exciting thing for me and my daughter my wife to go to a grocery store it is I I look forward to doing that yeah yeah is that unlike you I do wear a mask but you know a lot of people don't but it's it's okay yeah it's a really good question I I'm just pulling up the person we call fighter coming in through her I will kill you yeah you keep listening that and you keep checking in with us from time to time especially with your expertise I think this is going to be around for at least a couple weeks to a month or two longer so just keep letting us know well how you feel and what the what's going on it is a truly a bizarre situation might my biggest gripe with this story when it broke was that the daily stats are confusing and creating hysteria at no point did I ever say this disease was not a disease but you know when you say two people died in the beginning three people died in Europe ignored the seasonal flu in all the deaths associated with that up to sixty thousand a year from twenty five thousand to sixty thousand a year depending on the season it it scares the living daylights out of people and I still think they're doing that I called a reporter from the post dispatch here in St Louis who wrote a story that there were a hundred and fifty deaths in the state of Missouri it from the kids and the covert nineteen and I said but how many have died right now from the seasonal flu and she went all in so I think that's important to put all of that in perspective let's go to Tom in la Hoya California hello Thomas.

N. O. V. I. T. dot com learn more about the podcast you're listening to right now at one oh six one FM talk dot com always free this is just one of over twenty five thousand podcasts available on I heart radio let's get back to him now all right so back in the day when they first split off this company that rivers running through this town it was a really big deal it wasn't just a sibling rivalry it it became a town wide rivalry yeah in the U. you worked for one company or the other as a family like a husband and wife didn't work they didn't split up in one work at home and one worked at adidas samba plus I mean if you fell in love with somebody from a family across the rivers like yours that was sorry yeah I got a Romeo and Juliet thing going on that ain't gonna work crazy it is it I I was glad that one this one of the local historians whose interview for one of these articles said it wasn't like bloody or anything like Sherin lost their lives over this it was just you know if you work for puma he stayed on the Pumas side of the river he works for a DTS you stayed on the adidas the river and each each group kept to themselves that was all yeah and it still carries over to this day some of those recent interviews that we both read I mean it's certainly now it's a little more good natured ribbing but they say when you walk around this town walk through a playground and you see will you will see kids kitted out in all the dealers or all puma right and this is Kerry down from generations where they were adidas or puma families and it was a really big deal and still remains so to this day such that the the mayor who actually came from a poem a family yeah but to be mayor you can't you know you got to be a politician sure so he will wear to some events casual events puma gear and sometimes adidas gear of initially in two thousand nine they had a friendly soccer match between the the official puma sponsored team in adidas team in here for one to my shoe and wanted the issue just to remain neutral I guess end to look like a total jackass roughly then they showed him rubbing like his poem his adidas but later on they come on camera so this is the that like you said there was a soccer game that was played between adidas and puma kind of a reconciliation thing on international peace day back in I think two thousand nine yeah that happened think about this the the route and the Rudy and ID das slurs died in the seventies within four years of each other this is two thousand nine before the company's finally kind of have this reconciliation game yeah and yet today still it's like you kind of will you'll gently you know make fun of somebody wearing adidas if you're puma family or whatever the well the brothers were alive the if you just steer clear of everybody who is on the on the other side so much so that hurts so was known as the town of the lowered gaze because if you came upon somebody on the street you would look at their shoes to see what shoes they were wearing before you decide whether you're gonna toxin that's not funny it was that it was that established this bread these brothers hatred and rivalry of one another they didn't speak for decades spread out into the town that was divided by this river and the town itself took sides it because of this rift between these brothers that all started supposedly in this a bomb shelter during World War two yeah and that the mayor hacker his first name is German could that be right J. remembrancer R. Herman is they don't say Germany over there anyway yeah they say Deutschland yeah but but where would that be Herriman no I guess they spell her ms with an H. yeah I think it would be mayor Gammon haka right yeah there's an ATM in hockey soccer who's under Rath but he says if someone someone comes in through the door to this day your gaze to wander through their shoes is just in the DNA of those people that this athletic here is so important it's so strange such a cool cool weird story it is a great story sibling rival unison hatred and like you said they didn't speak for decades apparently much later in life there were a couple of times when they were rumored to have spoken once I think they ran into each other at an airport once they saw each other at a hotel and I believe on the deathbed which one try to get in touch with the other Rudy Rudy dying put out the call that I would like to see my brother R. D. one more time and IT went no thanks okay nine can you believe it yeah man that's that's tough so they died the family sold the the business in the eighties late eighties and they got bought by Legg corporate conglomerates sure ironically proven now owns Reebok and Gucci owns puma but I did this is still just a devious but again it's it's own buy like a mega conglomerate right and they've they've just gone enormous and make billions of dollars a year so the families are necessarily involved but one family member still works in the business his name is Frank das slur I believe he was Rudy's grandson and he used to work at puma he was pretty high up in puma yeah now he works as the head of the legal department for adidas which insides it's a pretty good indication of how how much the this Cold War is kind of thought between the two companies quite a bit because the people running it have no skin in the game they don't they don't care anymore you know yeah or he's an attorney and he would just after the most money right he's like let me suck your blog so we have a fun little postscript on this I know we've been talking about run DMC mmhm and again you young ins it might be second nature now to associate athletic gear and the hip hop and rap music and culture but back in the early nineteen eighties that was not the case until run DMC came along now like a year your wrappers probably dressed like a gone in king yeah or maybe like the New York dolls yeah or just like I mean I sometimes I feel like I've seen just like denim jackets and just sort of like just sort of street wear which is the funniest thing I've ever said it was pretty on I don't wanna say anything ma'am Clyde street where so you know play close so run DMC changed everything when they released a single called by adidas yeah and I saw elsewhere that they released the single my adidas kind of in retaliation to Michael on a song called felling shoes so if you ever notice that run DMC wore their adidas without laces with the tongues popped out and I noticed there was supposedly because that's how people in prison had to wear shoes because they weren't allowed to have shoe laces and they were kind of saying like we're down with all of our buddies imprisoned so this song fell in shoes basically was making fun of that and basically teaching kids not to not to emulate prisoners and run DMC took issue with that and they ended up releasing my adidas the song on raising hell in nineteen eighty six sorry raisin hell yes Sir member of my family isn't it busted Disney world wants I think in a matter of windows were foggy and I was so into run DMC I just wrote raising hell in the fog on the window on the bus that that was really whole area that is a great story so I was into my ideas to because of run DMC but it wasn't just me apparently if you want to run DMC show on the raising hell tour or the together forever tour in nineteen eighty six or eighty seven when they sing my ideas everybody we take off their shoes and hold their adidas in the air yeah that's how that's how big of an impact the song had yeah and in nineteen eighty six a senior employee to do this name Angelo and Stasio went to that tour at Madison Square Garden since all this happened with the adidas sneakers and was like hold on a minute wait just a second we could have something here mmhm ran back to the headquarters and within just a few days they signed them to a million dollar endorsement deal and that was like a sea change forward for hip hop groups getting money and all sorts of ways yeah and apparently made adidas's sales just go through the roof yeah yeah it is like that began the marriage of like I'm gonna put out a record I need to get a shoe deal I might get a vodka sponsor like no yeah I'll get money flown in from all kinds of directions and run DMC started it all vodka's phone service so there is a feeling of seeing that now yeah you know he's totally have legs P. Diddy and ciroc vodka I think yeah look it works I associate P. Diddy and ciroc vodka enters nodding wrecked awesome thanks injury Jerry would been like what and my missus getting cold hurricane hysteria we will hurry up goes to Jerry if you want to know anything else about adidas and puma will discuss our reading up more if there's actually a book by a woman named Barbara Smith called sneaker wars appropriately all about the rift between adidas and puma so if you wanna know more about it that's a pretty good place to start and since I said that it's time for a listener mail can we call this sponges can you guys system the Pando I was excited you know mention glass sponges which are thought to be the oldest animals on earth I am a PhD student at the script institution of oceanography in San Diego and I study marine sponges because they make all sorts of unique molecules that can be used as new medicines I think sponges at the coolest animals on earth and I'd love to share some of my favorite sponge fun facts the reading not only respond just thought to be the oldest living single living animals on earth but some evolutionary biologist even think sponges were the first animals to ever evolve in other words are less common animal ancestor could very well have been a sponge that's so cool did you know the first anti viral drug approved by the FDA was developed from a molecule.

"And remember this is next door neighbor. Yeah. His wife Betty told him the dogs had crossed the goal toward Ted's property, then came home. This is so bizarre covered in human shit human shit was smeared into their coats smeared, more deeply than the animals. They just rolled around in some shit. They found Ted never confessed to doing this. But when you hear the rest of these dog tales becomes pretty safe to assume he did it nine hundred eighty eight Chris and Betty take short trip to Helena, Montana. Do some shopping when they get back home. They find one of their two year old malamute's line in the yard. Paralyzed the dog soon died the vet determined. He'd been a victim of poisoning later nine hundred eighty eight Chris and Betty bought a breeding pair of shar Pei's. And the first litter of puppies arrived the following summer. The dogs are well aware of Ted's habits and places nearby. He frequented, especially some trail above an old miners. Ditch were Ted would cross into the goals. Chris it was along for the dogs. Had worn a trail resembling a cow path on the hill. Outside just from running back and forth between their house and the old ditch. And then along the ditch sniffing for Ted Chris Farrell did he felt kind of bad that dogs? The dogs would interrupt Ted solitude. But you know, what are you gonna do? You know, if Ted really want to keep the dogs out. He should've built a fucking fence build a privacy fence. You're smart guy. Right. You're not to make a bomb. You probably how to make fucking fence the dogs. Chris had had had at the house. They were there to protect Betty when he wasn't home and also protect their their home from being vandalized robbed because that had happened to many of their neighbors and in the late eighties. The waits family dogs continued to be targets of mean-spirited acts quite often one or more than would limp home with cuts or deep bruises bojangles. Just told me that the Unabomber jumped the top three on his list of most despicable suck subjects the next two dogs to meet their demise were both shar Pei's Ted poisoning. Both then Ted shot there malamute, and this is all speculation. But I again, I really think he did this then because during the early nineties they lose four more dogs all poisoned. Why do I think Ted did this? Because after he finally got arrested ninety six or nineteen Ninety-six me the attack. Stop completely to me. Maybe more than anything else is proves that the Unabomber was not some kind of revolutionary huge huge. It a hateful antisocial fucking asshole. By he's such a hateful piece of shits. The don't have anybody around in bothering him. But some dogs bark. And then he has to kill them. Gee, boohoo Ted the people at Harvard were so mean to you you fucking crybaby. Should've hated yourself for being too goddamn week to stand up for yourself and opt out of that experiment, fucking baby. But you didn't you know, you could quit. You were never a revolutionary. You're is the dumbest fucking genius ever. You crack math equations, but you couldn't crack forming and maintaining normal human relationships instead of taking responsibility for that. And said realizing the problem was you not everybody else. You know, you just you just sat around and a little cabinet. You got bitter to student. You're angry thoughts and instead of trying to fix yourself. Just lash out at everybody else. That's always. Lenient? It's always easy. You know, even load your cell to lash out at their pets. Man. I hope prison life is just making you miserable out. The guards are fucking with you like those people at Harvard..

Cool. Yes. He's three years old, and he's a Chinese shar PEI mix, which we don't often get he's really really pretty. He's got kind of a marble coach Brown and black on the top. And then some white on his belly cute little pointy ears, and he's about fifty five pounds. So he spent medium larger sized dog and a huge smile. You know, the smile, and the is the way the eyes are set and the smile very unique looking dog and you look at this dog right away. You're thinking, okay. That's a friendly guy. Right there. Yeah. Yeah. He's a really unique looking God. So Chinese shar PEI mix is they're really they tend to be really intelligent here loyal. They're really really cool dogs. And it definitely I think that I think describes the amount, and you know, he's three years old. So he's kind of grown out of that rambunctious puppy says, and he's really mellow.
