Jake Paul's Greatest Accomplishment So Far: Disrupting the Boxing Model

"I love the way. The paul has disrupted the boxing model. I love the way. He stepped in as a famous guy who just had something that he wanted to do. And look fame. Doesn't just travel you wherever you go and you guys would know the viewers think of your favorite hollywood actor throw the big names denzel washington right brad pitt throughout some big names jennifer aniston if they go over to boxing. Are you going to come with them. Just because you're just ask yourself that question and they'll be part. Yeah i would go watch you. Might you might go watch them once. But you're not gonna just come with them and we've seen this tested both ways. We've seen people in the boxing world roy jones junior. Who's a big and meaningful name within the box and thought he could parlay that into rap. I think if memory serves me right even shaquille o'neal try doing some level of music and entertainment to get those fans to come with you no matter where you go your youtube star but you transition those fans and you pivot over to boxing. That does not just happen. Because you have twenty million followers. There is an art to that. That's where jake. Paul should get the credit his ability to bring people along the journey. That is jake. Paul's life and for them to not care. What genre you're going into. That is an art. Like no other. If you wanna go study jake paul. That's what you want to

Amazon Alexa Gets New Voices, Including Actors Melissa McCarthy and Samuel L. Jackson

"This month. Alexa is going to sound a little bit. Different on july fifteenth the tech giant rolled out an update to its digital voice assistant to include a second voice option. As you know amazon's assistant typically has like a feminine sounding voice with this update. You can change that to a more masculine voice setting this all up his quite simple. You just say the assistant's name followed by quote. Change your voice and quote but that's not all there's an additional wake word you can use in place of alexa. That new word is ziggy Basically it works the same way instead of saying the primary name of amazon's digital assistant You can say ziggy instead. If you're a fan of gigi and you've never tried to swap out the wake word and you kind of want to try it out. Anyway you have some other choices to You can use amazon. You can use echo or you can use computer And the way to do this is really simple. Just like with the change. Your voice option. You can make a query to the assistant and say change the wake word to whatever you want Another way to do this too is open up the app for the voice assistant go to the menu. Select your settings than device settings. Then you go to the device that you want to update with this new wake word and then you choose the when you want and that's it now if you don't want either of these options for voices you can actually add a little bit of celebrity flare After introducing an option awhile. Back to add actor. Samuel jackson's voice to queries amazon is much similar offerings featuring actress melissa mccarthy an nba legend shaquille. O'neal so the way it works is you kind of ask them directly as you would amazon's digital assistance. You might say hey shack. Tell me about the weather. Hey samuel Tell me about the news today. And it works exactly the same way and they will read everything in

I've Hired Several Coaches, but No Improvements. What's Wrong With Me?

"Hey i've hired three business coaches. They've all felt like a waste of time and money. And i haven't seen any improvements what's going on. There's something wrong with me. My doing this wrong. what's happening. Well i want to answer this question to make sure i also address. Everybody was listening. That my have a similar question thinking about hiring a coach or have higher coach. Maybe didn't see the results are looking for on a star by saying i have gone through this several times. I've hired coaches have a lot of experience. And not all. My experiences with coaches have been the same. I i have to say a quick If you have a coach if you hire a coach and they give you instructions if they give you a action items to do a plan and you don't implement you actually do the work it doesn't matter. What kind of coach you have. You have to actually follow through. So i know this kind of obvious but a lot of people i've met along the way have hired coaches and ask them. How's it working out like not so great as it will. What does the coach advising you to do. All of they're telling me to do xyz. We'll have you done xyz and they're like a not really not sure. If i should and that really is the biggest red flag for me when it comes to hiring a coach. Don't go down the road of hiring a coach if you're don't a hundred percent trust this coach and believe what they say you should do is worth doing because the whole point of hiring coaches saying. Hey i'm allowing somebody else to advise me on how to move forward. And i'm willing to do what i need to do to make. It happen very similar in sports. You know one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time is phil jackson. He coached michael. Jordan scottie pippen but he also coached the lay kobe bryant shaquille o'neal a lotta great players but these players would not be great would not achieve their level of excellence if they didn't allow themselves to be coached if they allow themselves to follow through. And do what the coaches asking them to do.

Are Donovan Mitchell and the Jazz True Contenders?

"So tony. Let's start this story during last year's playoffs done mitchell and jamal murray have this epic battle in the nba. Bubble shot clock down to four. Mitchell has millsaps. Automobile three took three and returns the staredown ton of matchel clutch. Three pointer for the jazz. Eventually mitchell jazz fall in dramatic fashion a game. Seven two seconds ago for the winter. Tell us about donovan. Mitchell after that loss of known donovan. Pretty well in the four years. He's been with the johnson. I don't think i've seen him data emotional in the post game. There's so many things. I just feel like we could did and we didn't and i think that's just where the hurt really comes because quite frankly i don't i give them credit but i feel like we kind of eased off the gas. You have to remember the jazz at a be in the second half of game five which was supposed to be oppose out game for them to do more and this won't happen again is extremely down and he just basically said. We're not losing in the first round of the playoffs anymore. This ain't the end. This ain't this is just the beginning man. This is just the just the beginning. And i'm ready to go. Who begin right now and so once. The cameras were gone and donovan. Mitchell was back home in utah. How how did he spend. This off. season is funny. Because i talked to somebody close to donovan mitchell about this a couple of weeks ago and one thing he said was donovan was on the phone with people like literally. You know two or three days after the season Sam less workout. You know the thing about donovan. He's a guy that goes out and he works on his craft resolutely. And you know. I think that not only. Did he work on his craft during the offseason but after that the rest of the jazz from person one person fifteen worked on their craft under all season as well. Well let's bring it forward to this year. How did mitchell in the jazz start off. The current season they started off on four and with two really bad losses unforced turnover passing out an equal. Don't runaway league beasley. They lost the minnesota timberwolves at home. In the second game of the season they will blown out and outclassed in brooklyn nets team did james harden because they hadn't traded for them and they didn't have durant is everywhere. Count it at one but rudy rudy. Did show back up on the screen and brooklyn's play it with alan at the energy so basically re irving at a bunch of role players that blasted the jazz in new york. You know jazz nation on the fan base was kind of going crazy. The jazz a couple of games where they look like world-beater. They had a couple of games where they look really back. And tony. I wanted to ask you about this moment. That happened on live television a few weeks ago. That was really widely discussed. It started at halftime of jazz. Pelicans game when the tnt broadcast crew was discussing the game. My question to the panel. Donovan mitchell is that the point of superstardom where he can take you there. Or he's still all star status. He needs to be so go. Third option really. Yes yeah i feel like it. No talent to do it. He's a great score. Grew there but if he's not score. What else can you do. And when the game ended shack starts interviewing donovan mitchell. Who's still on the court right after the jazz victory. Yeah and he says. I said tonight. That you are one of my favorite players. But you don't have what it takes to get to the next level as central purpose on wednesday to hear what you have to say about that. I that's it i mean. What were your thoughts when you first saw that exchange so the irony of the whole thing is that the actual conversation was fair. That part of the conversation that happened at halftime that part was fair. We know the donovan. Vigil is a dynamic offensive player. We know that he is a star. We know that he is an all star. Caliber guy for him to be a superstar. He has to round out his game and do everything he's got to defend. He's got a rebound. These got make plays for others. What wasn't fair is shaquille. O'neal saying hey. I don't think that you have what it takes to get to the next level as a player. And i just wanted you to hear that. What's your reaction. And i felt bad for about donovan. Because he was really dominant in that went over to pelicans he didn't deserve to be blindsided like up on live television and frankly he handled it as about as well as you handle something like that. My rookie year norms gonna get better mood. I do wonder cuba. The look on his face. Kind of indicated that he wasn't happy you know about the question but at the same time he's always been a person that knows how to express himself. I think he's a guy that's kinda. Learn how to lockout the proverbial outside noise and kind of focus on what he has to do and i think a desk one of the reasons why he's improved so much as a player.

Chicago, parts of US, brace for winter storms bringing more snow, bitter cold

"Five million people are bracing for either snow. Rain dangerously cold temperatures or all three. The wind chill so low in some places. It looks like a typo shaquille. Bruce reports from isis chicago where the arctic air could break record in days ahead tonight. A bitter winter blast weeping across the midwest plummeting temperatures creating hazardous conditions and avalanche in utah near alexander basin prompting air rescues white out conditions in montana in iowa a massive highway pileup tractor trailers flipped a police cruiser in ruins whipping winds plunging. Half the country into a deep freeze the wind chill and might not north dakota thirty seven degrees below zero. Super Bowl LV: The Goat vs The Future

"Well a ref- last time. We talked to you wild card weekend with six playoff games over two days and you pretty much didn't have any time to eat or sleep this weekend. We only had two games both on sunday. So is your home. Look by comparison on a weekend like this much cleaner. I can say that and not only do i have time to eat. I have time to cook. I'm very excited. That's awesome well. Let's start with the early game. The bucks beat the packers. Thirty one to twenty six tampa bay went up twenty eight to ten in this game. What was the key for them building on this big lead. I think a lot of it's just the pressure they were able to produce the packers reduced to having lucas patrick and billy turner on their offensive line and it gets shaquille barrett and jason paul. There really isn't enough. I mean they're used to having a top three offensive line in the nfl. In fact both of those teams are and without that aaron rodgers is under pressure much more often that affected a lot of throws and of a lot more often than we typically see second and eight jerseys. Jason pierre paul. I think that was a big part of it. But also i mean as many times as tampa bay receivers willing to drop the ball. I mean they are better receivers than the packers have in that secondary in that easy pretty good secondary. A huge storyline throughout this game was also the bucks on third down conversions. What did you see from them. So well under pressure a lot of it is just the packers third down defense was just not very well designed and this has been a typical problem for mike patton and his defenses. And i think the that the buccaneers kind of organised out of their game plan around what they would expect to see on third down and so you ended up seeing like for a brief period of time. They had one hundred percent success rate on third down and like a ten percent success rate on first and second down it was kind of nuts. But yeah i think for the most part. They anticipated some blitzes. This saw man coverage they decided. Hey you know i. I think that chris godwin. Or mike evans can beat this guy and this guy was usually kevin king but they were able to win a variety of throughout the game especially on third down where i think things were just a little bit more predictable for them in the second half. Tom brady three interceptions on three consecutive possessions. Third down to brady throws it under pressure. The packers failed to convert the last two of those into any kind of points. How we're the bucks able to hold that lead after three turnovers. Some of it is the individual talent of the players that they've gotten a secondary thing. Carlton davis is really put a stamp on the nfl especially in the postseason. But he's going to be one of those rising players to watch next season that will be identifying and he's played very well but i think some of it is just to have an enormously fast defense and i think was the kind of got a feel for what the packers were attempted to do offensively. They just had a better understanding of what needed to be done. We're the players needed to be in how to hit those landmarks because they weren't really being ton of their defense. From a schematic perspective. They were just kinda getting to their landmarks. a lot. faster. Whether against the runner of the pass the defining play this game was packers coach. Matt leflore making the call to kick a field goal on fourth and goal from the eight yard. Line down by eight points with just over two minutes. Left and tom brady on the other side of that ball. Instead of going forward here on fourth and goal makes this a five point game again really surprised by that decision joe. I thought that they would go for it on fourth down a reef where you land on this decision by matt leflore not to go forward on fourth down. I think it was a really bad decision. And i think you know based off of what my twitter timeline is saying. That's fairly universal agreement. Interestingly wasn't as strong analytical decision to necessarily go for it on fourth down versus kick. And i think you take a look at some of the calculators that are out there and you know it was better to go for it than to kick it. But given the fact that they had three timeouts plus they were ahead of the two minute warning. There's a little bit more time than you. Typically anticipate so from an analytical perspective. It doesn't seem like as bad of a decision. But honestly i think that you take into account some of these situational factors like the fact that the packers have the best red zone offense. Nfl history as far back as her. Dagoes which i think goes all the way back to like. Thank you ninety. I think that plays a role. I think the fact that tom brady is on the other side of the ball with a bevy of weapons and a healthy offensive line. I think that plays a role. And i think kind of every additional bit of context that we add to this decision makes those analytical models a little bit more often favor of going for it instead of kicking that field goal because they needed to have those two scores. It just doesn't really make a lot of sense of the was

How can Canada stop the growth of hate groups?

"For many canadians who have stared in horror at events happening to the south of us over the past four weeks or for years. There is a comforting thought that arrives immediately afterwards. Thank god we're in canada or maybe better phrased thank god. That could never happen here but could it. The united states right now is a unique mix of anger guns conspiracy theories white supremacy and abject poverty and all of that has bubbled over the past few months to create scenes. That the whole world will never forget yes. America's recipe might be unique but canada already has most of those ingredients in abundance. And we haven't done much to solve the problems driving any of this kind of anger. Though doesn't explode overnight. It takes individual people time to arrive at the mixture of hatred and hopelessness. That's needed to turn rhetoric into action. So today's question is not really can happen here. It's what can we do to stop it from happening here. And of that applies to governments and politicians and two police forces but it also applies to you and me and to anyone who wants to believe. The canada really is different. Because if it is it's only because we all work to make it that way. I'm jordan keith. Rawlings describes the big story. Shaquille chaudhry is the co founder of animal leadership. He is also the author of deep diversity overcoming us versus them. Hello shaquille jordan. Why don't you just take me back a week ago. And i know There must have been all sorts of things going through your head as you watched the events leading up to and including the storming of the us capital. You know what's going through. Your head is as somebody who spends his career dedicated to racism and social justice issues shocked at the images and then not surprised given the patterns and the trends that have been at play. What do you mean by that. The election of trump has been a time of absolutely unprecedented dislocation and kookiness in the political. Front i mean we had rob ford here in toronto and we thought that was bad. But he was more of a harbinger of the kind of right wing. Populism that has been sweeping across the western world and trump is the has been the most toxic version of that and so we've been seeing escalating violence We've been seeing congress in And and the senate deadlocked being not particularly helpful to anybody and that level of polarization actually didn't start with trump. that's actually been happening for forty years. It's it's been actually building since the reagan era since the eighties when neoliberalism and the economic model that basically has has wages for the average person stagnate over four decades and yet we are making our economies making. You know three four five times. What it was both in canada and the us What it was in the eighties and yet people aren't feeling bad. The rich have become richer. The poor become poorer and that might sound like some kind of leftist cliche but the is is that ten years ago a research team led by peter turkson in the us predicted that by two thousand twenty the us and many parts of the western world. We're going to be at quote unquote peak violence. And so the trends have been at play and the key driver of their research has been income inequality and so the trends have been building and today peter church in his team would say that that the us and the environment in the us over. The last four years is similar to the environment in just before the french revolution in france and just before the civil war the united states so these trends have been have been playing out. And i've been. I've been really researching a lot about authoritarianism. Because i work with issues around polarization and racial polarization and an integral conflict. And so i've been looking at this or the last few years and just watching this build up and build up and knowing that it was something big was going to happen and we knew it enough that we actually scheduled a two day conference which is in fact on the twenty first and twenty second january after inauguration day because we just assumed that something was going to happen.

SPACs: The Backwards IPO That's Taking Over Wall Street

"The hottest trend on wall street. This year is a spec. That's spelled s. p. a. c. constantly house backs backs best back frenzies. Back actions back is the new black former house speaker. Paul ryan's got us back. Shaquille o'neal's got us back and the youngest self made billionaire ever just brought in all that cash through a spec. What the heck is a spec will let. Npr's camilla Explained in an ipo or initial public offering. You start with a company that wants to go public and then investors toss a bunch of money at it. A spat or special purpose acquisition company kind of flips that around investors pool. Their money together. I with no idea what company they're investing in then. That pile of money goes out and looks for a company to merge with the company gets the money and the stock ticker with a lot less paperwork until recently this was not a well regarded way to go public. They have this sort of shady origin. Story right rodriguez is a professor at the university of georgia school of law. There are these blank check. Companies really had a bad reputation a lot of blank check. Companies were outright frauds. So the federal government. Crackdown suspects added more safeguards to the blank check model like investors can get their money back if they don't approve of the company that gets picked but they were still on the fringes of the financial world until now and probably done one or two huge back combinations a year for the last five years until this year and then i would say the of the market just exploded. Sarah morgan is a lawyer. With the firm. Vincent in elkins specs today over fifty percent of my practice this year. Why now well if you look past the bad reputation specs have some real advantages there. Faster than ipo's and have less uncertainty for founders. Both attractive during this really uncertain year. Austin russell is the ceo of luminary a company. That makes lighter. That's like radar but with lasers it's used in self driving vehicles. He founded the company as a teenager. Now he's got contracts with companies like volvo. It was time to go public and he saw the appeal of a spec. You've got the process end to end and in a like four months as opposed to having to spend huge time distraction for the better part of a year or two and he'd seen several well respected companies. Do it i. it's pretty cool. His spac merger earlier this month made him at twenty five forbes's youngest self made bilionaire. Today's specs have clear benefits for founders. Like russell who can go public with less paperwork they can also mean big bucks for the sponsors who organize them in fact sponsors make so much money if they close a deal that some critics worry. There's an incentive to merge with a mediocre company just to get that payday and that raises a big question whether this spac craze will be good for investors shiver drita says the risks are real because the flip side of making things easier for companies is inevitably that the risk of fraud to investors goes up. I don't know anyway to square that circle some of the sears specs have performed badly on the stock market and others have raised bigger concerns after zero emission truckmaker. Nikola went public through respect. It was accused of fraud which the company denies despite the skeptics the spectacular rise in specs shows no sign of fading away camilo domino npr news.

A big year for Bad Bunny

"Welcome back here with me from her home in washington. Dc is npr. Music and latino contributor. Stephanie fernandez hi stephanie. Hey steven great to have you so as we mentioned in. The bad bunny has released three albums in two thousand twenty the first y h l q. Md l. g. That's yoga lo que. Mais della ghana. Or i do whatever i want came out in february not long after bad bunny performed with jennifer lopez shaquille and j galvin at the super bowl halftime show. You'll find your haga made lagana at number seven on. Npr music's list of the fifty best of twenty twenty then in may bad bunny put out an odds and ends compilation called los que. No iban asa lear or the ones that were not going to come out. And now he's released ultimo tour del mundo which translates as the last tour of the world. The new album was written and recorded in quarantine and bad bunny had said it would be his last album not surprisingly he has already walked. That back a stephanie. Near the beginning of this year you interview. Bad bunny for a pitchfork profile called day in the life of bad bunny introverted superstar. Let's start with your thoughts on the new record which feels more restrained and reflective than the album. He put out earlier this year. Absolutely well let me start by saying that. It's been a crazy year for bad bunny. Output has been insane and prolific. and he's proven more than once that he can put out a great record. I really liked this album But i'll confess that i i i. I felt some fatigue at the fact that this is the third bad album coming out. And i'm a big fan of bad bunnies. I've been following him for a long time now. But i also believe that there's time for an artist to slow down into you don't need to put out so much music that being said. I really liked this album. It's really grown on me. Since i first heard it definitely appeals to the mo and may clearly bad bunny has also been listening to a lot of new metal and pop punk in quarantine. Well let's talk about the differences between this record and the one that he put out at the beginning of this year. That was kind of a more hard charging album in this one. As you said is is a little bit more mo absolutely. I think you know there has been this temptation to compare the two albums because they've been his two biggest releases. This year i think at the end of the day. they're such different projects. He was really trying such different things with them. That album iago looking at it. I was really focused on going back to the heart of puerto rican thrown from the early two thousands in the late nineties. The kind of music that bad listen to growing up the latin pop landscape now sounds a lot different than the music. Bad bunny loved growing up. And you know john that has historically not been widely accepted in latin pop and latin mainstream until the last decade. And one thing that he acknowledged to me when i interviewed him as well as you know something that was really the main focus of this record. Was you know undeniably making this sound of the music that influenced him growing up the artists that really deserve the shine when it comes to the strides made in this genre and this album is more about honoring a different kind of music that he loved growing up which is rock and rock and program spaniel and pop punk and i think what you really can see across. His body of work is just the deep respect that he has different kinds of music that he loves as well as this nostalgia. I think both records really have a lot to do with nostalgia in this way. That's really interesting to me especially in a year. That's been so difficult for so many people. Some many of us are finding comfort in music. That's not new music. That reminds us of more comfortable more simple times as it were. Even though these two albums are really different they both have really special offerings. Well one thing. I wanted to talk about it about this new record wanting that immediately jumped out to me as somebody who did a certain amount of coming of age in the nineties there a couple of songs on his record like to deseo loma harder. And you'll vito c. That are very tinged with all rock. Sounds like really kind of nineties. Rock sounds taught me talk. Yeah you know. This album has a lot of guitars. Sad guitars brad guitar. He's kind of teasing out this kind of pop punk and nu metal side that he has actually alluded to in previous work on his debut album sandra he had a song called dynamo moscow allowed which was really a pop punk song and people were so surprised to hear that from bad bunny and on your looking like he had llamas mignano which is like one of my favorite songs this year and a that just absolutely bursts into this new metal rage moment that is just so so registered so good and i think you know i i. I didn't think anything could match with those two songs. Made me feel. But i couldn't stop listening to to the settled on my heart. I really think it's like that. Riff is just so heart. Sick and tortured and cathartic. It's a little bit of that success. Mada below gun mental burden sep putra dot com the company. I think you can kind of get a sense of the exact angst. That's at work here but can you walk us through what that's about. Yeah you know. That song is kind of a classic reflecting on a break-up ballot and it's kind of a self torturing acknowledges wasn't great to you and i hope that one day you can forget about me but it's also just really indulging in that feeling and i think that's something that somebody people can relate to maybe a lot of people who've spent a lot of time alone in this year of in thinking about so. It's got a lot of sad. Bob's for reflecting on on these sad moments but also got a lot of really happy moments. I wanted be just kind of give people a sense of place about where he kind of fits into the latin music world like he is a boundary pushing artist. He's pushed a lot of these of gender presentation He sings about gender relations in ways. That feel really fresh absolutely. I think you know for several years now. Bad bunnies kind of establish this reputation for himself as a political or outspoken artist. And it's a label that he wrestles with. I think he is breaking a lot of barriers in terms of challenging masculine in latin pop. And he's really kind of an outlier. In terms of how vocal he is about these issues in two thousand nine hundred and he was really involved in the protests import. The frigo demanding the resignation of prepared for ceo in the past. He's also really challenge these ideas of gender presentation as you mentioned. You know he'd paint his nails and he'd wear skirts and bad. Bunny received a lot of praise for that and it was a big statement to a lot of his fans as much as he's gaining so much praise especially this year he's also had a lot of moments of public learning you know he's resisted this idea of becoming like a spokesperson for any group of people or report the frigo and earlier this year. You know a lot of fans were disappointed that he took several weeks to respond in support to the black lives matter movement and eventually he released a letter expressing his feelings and kind of saying himself. The thing that so many of us had already come to the conclusion to which is that. You know you can't rely on celebrities at the end of the day to lead us forward and social movements to be the voice of progress. I think bad bunny has made a lot of big statements that challenge how latin pop's most visible stars approach politics but then again on and trap have always been political and bad bunny is not the first and i know he won't be the last. Yeah you mentioned. His relationship with puerto rico. I think that's one thing that really jumps out about him. Could you talk a little bit more about that. Absolutely i think what definitely sets bad bunny. Apart from all of his peers in the industry is just how committed he is doing right by his community and worked to recall. Specifically i think in all of his music you can tell that. He's striving to remain authentic. And there's so many little love letters to community on this album samples the legendary astrologer welton on the penultimate track. His famous sendoff muccio more. He shouts out puerto rican and latino legends in general like leveaux the ruben blah the song and then latinos like real manna. You can tell that. He's he's aware that he's operating within a lineage. He never leaves any doubt about who he's trying to uplift and who is trying to represent here and he closes the album on a classic puerto rican christmas song comparison performed by today obama hegna which is a group from his hometown of vega baja. Your old it's kind of odd. Because it's like he's not on the song. Obviously it's recording from the fifties. But it's a song about how some people have jubilant joyful christmases and others spend it in sadness or in poverty. It is a farewell to a year. That i think all of us are happy to see go and i think you know though. He sits at this place of enormous wealth and privilege and fame. I think he's really at the end of the day driven by this desire to remain

New Adam Sandler Halloween Movie on Netflix

"I, guess sort of mixed reactions in mixed recommendations from me but Brad let's move to you. What have you been watching? I watched another hitchcock remake Huby. Halloween. How many I saw the original but this one is a steep departure. From that. No. This is the new Adam Sandler movie that's on Netflix's Halloween themed obviously, and I went out of my way to watch it because some people including an article that we published on slash home dot com. I don't remember who who wrote it and forcing them. Sir Jacob can tell me here in a second, but they actually said that this movie was funny. And I just WANNA say? No, it's not. I I will say I did laugh a few times during this movie. There are some some funny recurring bits and just a few things that I was surprised just funny jokes that suddenly caught me off guard. But this is just another weird movie were Adam. Sandler puts on a goofy voice and this is one of the voices where you can barely understand what he's saying to because he's mumbling all the time. And it's just has such a weird story and it has these tangents that don't ask anything that don't make any sense like. Shaquille O'Neal's part in particular. Felt like it was super shoehorned. into the proceedings and then. You know you have Julie Garner's character who is yet another woman who is inexplicably infatuated with one sandler's dimwitted goofball characters and I just I don't know how or like. Adam. Sandler his point and like why he's been stuck here for so long 'cause I had also recently rewatch the wedding singer went to talked about in the quarantine stream and recently big daddy because I found out that my parents had never seen and I love both of those movies and they are genuinely hilarious not even just funny by. Adam Sandler movie standards. They're very good comedies and just movies like Cuba Halloween in Sandy Wexler which Steven Brill also directed there. So far, and away you know the kind of comedy that Adam Sandler used to be able to make used to have like characters that were fleshed out and felt real while also being funny and like not just these goofy characters and that's not to say that you can't have comedies that have outlandish characters in them. But whatever Adam Sandler is doing with these kinds

Such a generous warm charming guy. He's everything you think he is. And what you don't hear there is what happened after our sit down interview at. Pj's cafe in Georgia. We are supposed to go just the two of us to this park where there was a basketball court that we'd found a weird is going to go to shoot around and talk a little bit but when we pulled up there were already a group of. I'd say they were eleven twelve year old boys. Maybe six seventh grade plain pickup at lunchtime with their teacher watching. So imagine their surprise. When out of that jacked up pickup truck steps? Shaquille O'Neal all seven foot one of 'EM JAWS DROPPED SHACK. A few of them said and shack being shack walked right up to him brought him into a huddle gave them a pep talk about life and said all right. Let's play so. We played a game of pickup. I had to guard shack unfortunately with a bunch of these sixth grade. Kids from Georgia's incredible. I can't imagine what they must have been thinking. I knocked down jumper. I took shack outside new. I couldn't handle him on the Interior. Took him outside a little pull up jumper hit it and I think I made shack mad because on the next possession he demanded the ball back me down and dunked on top of my head like you've seen him due to so many victims over the course of his great career. Thank you again to.

"Thanks as always for clicking and listening along this week my guest is a larger than life. Legend goes by the name of Shaquille O'Neal yes shack one of the most dominant athletes in the history of sports one of the greatest players in NBA history. Let me set the scene for you as always liked to do. He lives in rural Georgia. About forty five minutes outside Atlanta. Drive down to the little town where he lives go to a spot called. Pj's Cafe restaurant in the town square. Right they're hanging out waiting for shack to come in and man. Does he make an arrival comes in Solo but in his jacked up pickup truck in all up seven foot? One and three hundred pounds. But kinda rock-solid these days big arms just wearing a purple polo shirt and sunglasses sunglasses for the entire interview. I believe I'll have to check with the Sunday today. Historian it's only the second interview that we've done for this Sunday show where the guest has worn sunglasses throughout the other being ice cube so ice cube and shack the two guests wearing sunglasses throughout the interview. We got together and talk business. There was no real peg. Usually you interview somebody for a show or movie or a song or album. Whatever it is shocked wanted to talk so we sat down. We talked basketball. Ask but to me. The most interesting part of the conversation was his business success. It's been eight years now since he played his last NBA game. Obviously you know he won the three titles with the Lakers. Later one another one with the Miami Heat played in fifteen all star. Games was the NBA rookie of the year when the MVP award going back to Lsu. He was a college player of the year. And you can imagine it was pretty good in high school all American there too but really we talked about what he's done since he left the game and that's become a crazy successful businessman with restaurants real estate car washes and as one now the favourite and best known pitch men on TV for products. Like the general insurance icy hot gold. Bond wanted to get into him about why he picks those products. Because you are watching them go. I Love Shack. I LOVE THE AD. Is He doing this? I know he doesn't need the cash. We talk about all that and then of course he puts on his analysts hat. You know he's one of the host of inside the NBA. Charles Barkley Kenny Smith. Ernie Johnson we talk about the warriors we talk about the greatest players in NBA history. I get his all time. Top five out of them all that and a lot. More was Shaquille O'Neal right now on the Sunday. Sit down. Podcast JACK. Thanks for doing this. You appreciate it. I know you just came in late from La big opening of Shaquille restaurant out there. We'll kind of place. Is it similar the best description I can give that people understand? Sorta like a Houston hailstones which is designed. Yeah very classy. Very southern fried chicken steak Kobe burgers ribs. Whatever you want. Is this like some of the other projects we start one in La and then build them out all over the place but when in Atlanta I would like to. That's always the plan but you know we. The first one is always the tests to see how it works. Big Chicken. My other recommendations is doing fabulous Think about Orlando maybe New York and Tom Square and Shaquille the already. I already known about six or seven restaurants in Vegas. We always start out in Vegas because my chef and my partners are in Vegas. They can do most of the watching while. I'm working so most of my several restaurants that have been very very successful. So now is the time to Brad John Little Bit. So where does this instinct come for you because you've got the restaurant to get real estate? You've got clothing and jewelry. You've got this huge portfolio of businesses. When did you get that interest in business but not just an interest but being good at having that savvy for my father to the excellent job preparing me for life at the basketball is ways? We're very aggressively on Orthodox so everytime athlete got in trouble. I would be punished. Worst punishment of my life was when Lin bias passed away from a cocaine overdose. Father came in very upset. And put his hands on me into ever do Co. Qalqilya and maybe young at the time I was like Dad. I liked coke. I'm talking about that crazy right. So we had to sit out and watch and learn so his. His methods were that we learned from. Everyone's mistake so it's a shame that sixty three sixty five percent of all athletes especially in the NBA. When I retire have nothing. He didn't want that for me. I didn't want that for me so Every moment was a teaching moment. Whenever somebody did something wrong he would throw it in my face.

"It seems like we're on either extreme in this country. I mean, if you look at like in my movie. You know, you look at the greatest athletes. They're never forced to do anything. You know, greatness cannot be manufactured can't push someone to be great inside of you, Andre Agassi. Well, he wasn't the greatest of all time. And I bet you that part of his his greatness and creativity was that he was rebelling on the court at I bet you saw that that 'cause Agassi was he he was a unique guy on the court, this hair the style. And that was like, wow. Okay. That guy's doing something different. He was angry because. Yeah, he felt like he was forced. But it was coming out the creativity was coming out because of that too. So I think we can look at him a little differently there. But as far as you know, my kid is that I just think there's no question that the happier. You are the more you're doing what you love whatever it is. You know, I think the better we are what we do hundred thousand percent. I mean, it's like, but we all know that don't you need a fire under your ass drive. You. But that comes from within. So that may be the key is so you either have that or you don't if you can't be self started. I think that you can if you find something that you really love then you don't need to be pushed to doing it. You just you show up you wake up in the morning. And that's what you wanna do. You know, because you're you're you're driven. You want express that whatever that is? We're all fund what happened. Well, capable ski. Thank you for joining us. Thank you, Scott. And now for my interview with Shaquille O'Neal. Checking you so much for doing this? So we always begin with just a few basis because we kind of go through the life as much as we can in the time we have where were you born and raised in. What is your folks do for a living rose in Newark, New Jersey, father was a drill soja will the army, and my mother was. At first. And then she became a secretary when I got big because they need extra money to to feed me. Yeah. And you're one of how may I was one of five on five way where you giving the name Shaquille, Sean O'Neil. What does it mean? Because my mother tells the story in our book walk like you have somewhere to go. My mother come from Christian family. So when I was born on a wet luck we outed and her little warrior, and she realized I was going to be different. So she wanna give me a different name. So she didn't wanna give me a John, Steve or David sushi's, woken Newark. And Muslim brother, a book of names, and she opens the pay, and she sees little warrior, and the baby that never cry. Never go problem. And she said, you know, what you going be little warriors name you should kill Russia. That's your family moved around a lot as a kid which was interesting because it's something I guess that you in Kobe Sheridan common. Just like can you explain why that was and how you think that shaped you as a kid because we do with all all Spanish. European of getting American white Cajun, Hispanic. So I was told people lifts one of a karate kid life. Yeah. And the way my parents raised issues they help, cultivate, the character of the world knows Sheck Sheck relate to anybody anywhere anytime. I can tell over over many years. That's definitely been the case in I guess, one of the places where you guys went because of your dad's job, but I think where you weren't thrilled to be was west Germany how while you were. There did basketball I enter the picture, I think everything happened to my life has always been a blessing to disguise. She's when you're young. Your juvenile delinquent. You don't know these things that takes time. So as you're developing yourself to become a man I had to figure things out. I didn't want to leave north New Jersey rose d'or cousin grandparents was there. We had a system work further..

"Superman, Shaq diesel, the big Aerostat when you are over seven feet tall, you get to be called whatever you want. Of course, we all know his true identity. He's NBA hall of Famer. Shaquille O'Neal. Shaq was just twenty years old when the Orlando Magic chose him as the first overall pick in the nineteen ninety two draft. He went on to be one of the most dominant players in NBA history, winning four championships. God bless shack with the gift of height, but his physical advantages didn't automats guarantee them success. He needed to grow in other ways to win both on and off the court born to a young on wed. Mother Shaquille grew up without his biological father. His mother married his stepfather Phillip. Arthur Harrison. When check was just two years old, their connection was deep. So. Deep that even now when shack mentions his father, he's speaking about Philip shack credits, both his dad and mom with encouraging him to strive for greatness and ultimately for achieving it. Everybody has a story and there's something to be learned from every experience. Use your life as a class. This is best class with Shaquille O'Neal. Mother is my best friend. My mother had me when she was very young. Mother was so religious when she had me out of wedlock, the family kind of turn the coal shoulder. So we were, we were low for a while. You know, just going place to place live on Valmon garage, Viviard ruby. So one day I finally asked my mother said, you know, we, we have Brian's and Kennedy's and Mike and Greg's family. Why'd you name me? Shaquille? And she said, I wanted to name your something that that meant something. Tracheal Russia on O'Neill. Killers Islamic lamb. It means little rush, Amies warrior. She say, you're my little warrior fought with your fought for you. She tells me story that as a two year when I was very, very oversight for to your. So of course, you know kids three and under ride a bus free. So she would drag me up to the bus and the guy, hey, you gotta pay the extra money. My momma say, no, he's only two, so I actually seen her fistfight with a bus driver one time. 'cause the bus driver would refuse to believe that I was two years old. She's my best friend. She's the only one that can keep me out of trouble. She's the only one that I always listen to, like, you know. A megastar do my own way. You know, she raised me to do a mile away, but if I ever make a mistake or do something wrong, she's one of the few people that when they call and speak a listener understand never talk back when you're the taller strongest kit and you walk in the gym people oughta Magli expect you to be the best or his six nine. She killed o.'neil at six. Nine was a terrible Blair. A dog I was on coordinated. I had no confidence, but because I'm six, nine, like let me try for the team travel the team as to worst trials and trials sister I cut now down because the dreams that I'm coating in my mind in my role will become an NBA player. It's not looking to do good, but I still wanna play still of the play, and my father was in the military. So we moved around a lot. And when we moved the Germany, they had something that was similar to boys and Girls Club. It's called d. Waie and you're dependent you've activities. And my first coach outside my father was a gentleman by the name of four mcmurtry and there was another guy on my team. His name is Mitch riles and this guy look exactly like Larry, Burt is crazy. He look exactly like Larry Bird, but man him used to play every day. I was Magic Johnson. He was Larry Bird and we battle every day. We fish fide and call each other names. I hate you an RC tomorrow. I love you and by doing that with him everyday. Next thing I know I was a hell of a player. We wanna d. y. championship two years in a row. And then we get the call you're moving to Texas. So gets Texas and get to the school until the coach. I said, I've never played high school basketball, but I was all Europe and. Okay. He threw me some football pads and said, gone do football drills. So today leave, I just practice practice, practice practice, prac- go back to the gym every day. You know, you gotta gotta fourteen year old k plan against eighteen nineteen year old men twenty year old man, and our beat me up and throw me around and calling me solve and call me wimps and called me all types of name. But being raised by drill sergeant you, your program never to quit. Junior year, comes around. I'm getting to be really good, really good. So get on the team. We got some characters on the team. We go thirty five and one and the one is my fault and the championship game I get in the foul trouble. I'm I'm stiff, can't play in coach was back in guys file me and I missed two free and we lose, but then quit. So now just play every day and boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, my senior year I go thirty six. Because you know all the mental abuse and all the stuff that I was teaching myself to do. It finally came around, I just get into turn around and shooting his there, get it and go up and dunk. It was there. And then when you start winning, everything's feeling good girl start recognizing you, I shock. I got the letter jacket teachers. L. finally getting a finally getting some respect and I was like, you know what? Maybe I can do it. Maybe I, maybe I can do this NBA thing that only ten percent of kids get the opportunity to do. Maybe I can do. It became a high school all America, and it was no better feeling than walking around the city being a local hero. Kids ask me all the time. My story I tell him us or and it's kind of similar to Michael Jordan story. Michael Jordan was cut also. Keep in mind that before you succeed, you must first learn to fail. Walk into the top of the mountain is going to be a straight path. You got rocks. He got slides. He got snow. He got out to toot and you have the fight throw at if you wanna reach top amount. And once you get the top of the mountain, something no one ever take away from you. We put so much pressure on that show to win win this, do this, do this, and you know, locate, you love the have that trophy love to be at the trophy ceremony to get little trophies up. My father taught me how to play my favorite sports. Tommy how the play football I won the punt pass and kick contests. Tell me how to play baseball. T-ball. They hit a lot of home runs. Tell me how to play basketball. He was. He was my coach from, say, from age eight to fourteen years old. So one time I want to say I was ten years old. We were playing, we were in a championship game, so I usually start the game me and my guys, then he put the guys that couldn't play, put a man, and then you know, we finished a game, but he flip flopped at this time and my father takes me out and he puts in a couple of guys couldn't play, and we lost a championship. Got the second place trophy. And I was pretty upset and I asked him, I said, what did you do that? And he said, listen. It's not about you all the time. These kids, you know, they come. They practice hard to do the same job that you do. They wanted to play is not all about winning trying to win when a number of trophies at you win, win trophy. When you go to college and when you go to NBA, don't worry about it. And when he ended a with don't worry about it, I had no choice, but not to worry about it. And crazy thing is the same thing happened to me. I'm kosher, some same, low Sharieff, sane. It's the championship game where undefeated by the way they call me the Phil Jackson of little league. So we're undefeated and we'll get into championship game. And you know, guys didn't really play. I put them in a game and we lose the game by two. And the guys were were very upset. And I said, listen, you know, told the story and to make them not be mad at me. I had to take them to hooters so them. So once I took them to hooters they love me again. But yeah, the same thing I've.
