"Can we watch it right? And then when we see where you're good, we're gonna make you play where you're not. And I think for the man's tour, it happens quick. You know, women, it takes them two years. People still haven't figured out three outta. You know what I mean? Four or 5 months, we got you. Yeah, no, they got you, for sure. And they'll expose that. No problem. Even on a bad day, even on a bad day, they're able to expose. And that's what I actually really, really enjoyed about flip flipping back to working with men and Dennis is just, it's all tennis. You've got to be on that practice. You got to be on, you know, during your matches. And it's way more tactical and physical and really, it becoming about tenants. So that was that fun part about going back to the men's, you know? It's war and even the top guys when they're playing bad like he's still going to run through them. There's so much. So it's work. You have to go and do the work day after day. And you can only incrementally work your way up the rankings, whereas the exciting part about working on the WTA is if you have a good workforce and they got that potential. You have no idea. It could be that tournament that you just run right through. Even if you're working on things, it just, if you're mentally somehow there and in a line, you can actually go through because there's a lot more momentum shifts, but the men's story you got far less of that. And there's a level, you know, when you get to the quarters, even though you think like, oh, it could go your way. You're not ready. You're not going to get that. On the men's store is like, you can't win every week. As long as Djokovic is around, Federer was around, Nadal was around. Yeah, you can't win this week. You can get to the corners. But you're not going to win. We're on WTA. You could probably win. Every week, you do actually have a chance to win. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what I mean? You can win. There's 25 players that could win.

"Yeah. Personality. Very mature. But young, like, I think about a young Francis, a young chapel, and it's like, I got to like make sure I tame this young bull. You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. Well, I mean, it's a lot of energy. And it's fascinating because I had always worked with more seasoned types of players, except for Wozniak at the very beginning who was 20, but, you know, more or less through those later years, it was, you know, players who had already been out on tour. So the transition that I got Dennis at was, you know, he had spiked out of nowhere, made this incredible run in Montreal, beats Nadel. Now he's the hometown hero. All this momentum. But a ton of energy and game, but realistically, has no idea how to use it and harness it. So I think that's what the previous coach was really trying to drill in and of course when you shoot up. There's going to be a stall. You just can't keep going. Some players can. But in Dennis's case, he had, you know, all of these things to learn. You know, like you're a young stud, what do you do? You know, on and off the court. So when I came in, my job was starting or continuing probably those conversations, but really leveling up and doubling down on his personality, his mindset. Constructing points, a lot of it was tactical, trying to understand how now to play one people start to figure you out. And so bringing that element of now you have to think. You can't just go on autopilot and crush winter. I mean, dude, if you can, by all means, go ahead. But the level is too strong on the ATP. You just can't do that. People even with people have answers for your creative mindset, you know?

"You know what? I kind of came full circle because right after I stopped playing, I transitioned. I had worked with bob Brett. I don't know if you ever remember. He passed away a few years ago with the Australian, he worked with silicon and you name it. He's worked with the best of the best. And he came into our federation and ran the Toronto facility. So I went with him, Dennis, who was, I don't know. Let's say ten years old, 11 years old, something like that. So I spent a little bit of time with him there. But Dennis funny enough, when we started working, he's like, you remember when you were teaching me the tweener and I'm like, nah, dude, not really. But I must have, because that sounds like me, but last time with him, got to know, but I do remember spending time with him and his family and whatnot. And, you know, through the years, as he was playing the juniors, and I was out with Lucy, I had always spent time with him a little bit, just, you know, giving a little pep talk, you know, when I'd seen him at the slams and just telling him, you know, like, if you really work your ass off and you really believe because I'd seen you since you were ten years old and your thing was playing to the utmost extreme aggression. Like it was just, you know, one handed fiery kid emotional crime when he had missed, but there was a lot of good. So from my perspective, I love players like that. You know, who are just cranking the ball and you can teach them how to play tennis afterwards. But it's not the polar opposite where they're just pushing, right? Or see them out on the road and we just kind of kept a relationship like that. And then it was that Wimbledon I think his coach got injured and then they started having the conversation with me like, you know, maybe you could fill in a little bit. Are you interested? And I was like I said, you know, I was with Lucy. And we were planning on playing one extra year, and we're going to kind of do the farewell tour. Play a little bit of doubles, and really enjoy in that environment as much as possible. But sure, they'd come back again and say, hey, listen, you know, we would really like to have a conversation with you about you coaching him and whatnot. And so just one thing led to another. And it was just one of those

"Mean? And if you think about that, I think that helped build confidence together where you saw wide open like, okay, whatever you tell me I'm a do. So let me ask you this because it's interesting. When I hear that, were you at a point in your career where you knew exactly like, no, this is going to pay off. Or were you still on the fence like, I think this is where we could take things that make sense. But until it paid off, or had you already gone down that route before, where you'd done that much work on a specific when you guys were out and you already knew. That was it. This is the plan. This is what's going to work for sure. Yeah, no, I mean, so think about it this way. As long as big for you, right? So when people stay away from your forehand and they start trying to go to your backhand, the best way to get the ball back to your forehand is to take that ball down the line to their foot. And they start getting more four inch cross. So really I did it and really when you think about pro tennis. You don't really have a lot of time to improve. You know, you go to majority. The next week is wrong. The next week in Strasbourg, the national league is French album. You think Miami, you know, maybe you got Indian whale, Miami, Charleston. You don't really have stretches where you can actually try to improve and everything. 'cause you're like, okay, we can practice and reset our mindset so we don't let this lost this week effectively. But that time was probably like the first time we had like 9 months when it was like no pressure to win tomorrow and we could just improve. So in my mind I was thinking the girl got a great forehand. I'm not gonna mess with that. How did we construct the point where we can hit more forehands, right? Yeah. People understand. So that was actually really intentional to like be able to like, you know, because normally you don't take a big forehand, a big backhand cross line. You take it back cross court. So let's work on irresponsibly going live. How do we work on taking them all live? That is so big that you probably shouldn't take across court. But now we just worked on staying on the inside of the ball where we can actually control it line, to get the ball back to our forehand. And then we take our forehand. So that was like very intentional.

"A tough scenario to be extremely disappointed overall because, you know, you're playing the finals a French against Serena. So I think for me, I went through conversations for a while as to exactly what you just mentioned, like what could I have done different to maybe change the narrative? You know, I was just constantly running that scenario over should have started earlier should I have said different things and tried to plant the seed earlier. Or even before the match, I could have said, you know, because we had known because she had played Serena several times, but we knew like she has these moments where she just disappears mentally and gives you these gaps, but she always somehow gets back on track. But when you get that gap, you gotta go. Yeah, you gotta hold her throat. That's it, you gotta go. And so I didn't before the match had had that conversation and those are those things. But for her, you know, she was disappointed, but she was also, you know, we did it kind of thing. You know, as a team. And I couldn't hate on that at all. You know, like I was just so blessed to be a part of not only that result, but it was bigger than that. Working, you know, when, you know, I'm sure you understand like working with that one player that usually coaches always kind of want to get like she just was a perfect human being. And so seeing her disappointment, I was there for comfort. I couldn't get mad at that. And then we just, you know, we just enjoy the moment and got back to work type thing rather than being upset because I had had conversations with her before after close match. Just like that, where we were disappointed and we got into these heated kind of battles because, you know, there are things that you should have been doing and you and you didn't. But that wasn't the moment I thought, you know, like, you? Yeah, no, I think after that, you gotta pick them up. You know what I mean? You pick them up. Deep down, you're pissed, right? You pissed at yourself, you pissed that like, oh man, we've had an opportunity. It was on your racket, that kind of thing. But I think in that moment, you pick them up.

"And he came to practice with the papers literally like two weeks before I was supposed to go home and we were kind of just sad because it's like we tried so hard I was training I was in the right set of like the right mindset and I just wanted to give back to him and because he'd done so much for me and sure enough he actually got me eligible and then I won everything the next year, literally and see that the vision too, like the national everything national titles like I just was like here how much I appreciate it the opportunity and what you did for me. So okay, that's clarified for me. So at what point did you meet Lucy, right? Because you get out there, you're out there with Alex Wozniak. Then you meet, I mean, I still like because what I think or what I see from check players. Is they very rarely work with the coach does not check. I mean, I can't even name other than Lucy. I can not name another check player.

"shapovalov" Discussed on The Tennis.com Podcast

"I mean, it was funny. In a nutshell, I'll start even earlier. It was like, you know, you have this pretty good solid foundation through juniors. You think you're gonna go pro, you know, funds aren't there, you know, et cetera, et cetera, go to college route. I was immature thinking like, you know, on to good for this, did fairly well the first year. I went to school in South Carolina, gamecocks. Yeah, gamecocks. And then after the first year, I quit tennis, quit life in general, bro I literally went down, you know, the spiral of just like hitting rock bottom for two years. I just, I just avoided, I guess, reality. And I just was running from all the torment and headache that tennis kind of created in my head and ultimately was just ego, right? And then I found myself picking myself back up in my early 20s and then got an opportunity through somebody saying, hey, would you want to go back to playing college ball? And I figured out, you know, working for $9 an hour wasn't the root and thinking I had it so good prior to that. So I ultimately just had this aha moment and then went back into school and just hustled and even down to even my school in which I was terrified of. I worked my ass off and just grinded on and off the court and then found myself with an opportunity to go play Davis Cup. And so I had gone and played Davis Cup. I played for a couple of years out on tour and then ultimately I figured out it's probably not the best option continuously for money. I could barely pay for my flights and making enough money to pay for some coaching and all these factors just I hit that moment where I was just thinking, you know what? I think the smartest thing for me is transitioning into coaching because I actually found myself in the last year helping a lot of my friends out there even when we were playing doubles and going watch Friends matches. I was actually I just had that knack for join to help others. That was something that I found was crucial for coaching, but at that time I didn't realize what it was. I just thought I was just that guy. You know, like I just wanted to hang around the courts and help other people and whatnot and then so I slowly transitioned out of that plane and into coaching and then I had to find my lane obviously. You know how that goes after you stop playing. It's like, do you go private sector? High performance, you go national program, like I don't know, or a tour, you know, that was still foreign. Like I didn't even think tour at that time. So I just started naturally with our national team and tennis Canada. And then it quickly just I got an opportunity to go to tour with Alex Wozniak, one of our Canadians. And I was there. It was like, AK, you probably would understand it. It's like you've been grinding your whole life and you still have this passion for the sport, but you never really made it. I mean, you're in and out of that circle, you know? And I saw a lot of my friends they ended up making it. And so I got that opportunity and all of a sudden practices were now not on court 18 in the middle of nowhere. In a center in a stadium, you know, and there's people watching. And I'm like, this is the life that I never had. And I'm like, this is my life. And that was it. That was it. I never looked back from that point on.

"Almost every single time she'd always say, yeah, for sure. As long as it was the best case scenario, you know, meaning time wise time slots and get in, get out, that type of thing, and even if it was somebody that she didn't really prefer to practice with, she would always understand that it was best for her tennis and ultimately, you know, running through the event, trying to go deep. So we never had any issues. But there was a few times where she's like. A court with that you're going home. Now, I mean, Lucy's a lefty, right? And I think that for me, if I'm you, I'm like, damn, you know, how many people try to avoid playing a practice match with a lefty because their opponent? Yeah, well, you know what? I didn't find too many issues with that just because a like you said was just like a stand up personality, like nobody disliked her. Everybody liked her. There was just something about it also she was an incredible athlete and tennis player. So being a lefty, obviously, maybe for the warmup, there might have been something, but you typically, there was never an issue. Even when I was with Dennis, like, everybody wants to practice with Dennis. It doesn't matter whether he's lefty. You know, and it's the day before everybody, which is cranks and balls with him. So it was just, yeah, it was pretty easy. I didn't have that scenario where I might be working with a player that players also dislike. They don't really want to be out on the court with maybe not the greatest hit. And then, in addition, they're on a lofty category. So. Far our listeners rob is the former coach of Lucy safarova. And in the shop of vala. But before we get that, I want to know how you ventured into pro coaching. You know what I mean? I think we all grew up with how we played joins. We played college, played for the federation. We played one or two tournaments, you know, and then our dreams get crushed and we're like, yeah, I don't have the goods to make it on tour, and we end up coaching. Tell me about sort of your tennis journey. And how you got in there.

"Pappa. Very good. To be clear. So on to the tennis and I think the biggest results, the biggest shock of the tournament so far, if it is indeed a shock and we can talk about that now is Stefano sits a pass going out. Beaten by Jordan Thompson 7 6 in the third, not the highest quality match earlier on today I would say. Plenty of drama, but just not necessarily the highest level. And I think a good deal of inconsistency from sits about really contributing to that. And frankly, he warned us this would happen, didn't he? He said in his pre tournament press conference two days ago don't expect me to win this thing because I don't I'm not expecting to win this thing or even come close because I'm not fit. Yeah, he said he was in recovery mode still, didn't he? And at the time our reaction was, well, what are you doing here? And, well, that is still my reaction. Yeah, what are you doing here? What were you doing here? Maybe just having a nice holiday in which case, I feel you. Lovely. But possibly not the best decision for you. Career in the short to medium term, I don't know. Yeah, and you're right. The fact that we knew all this coming into the match does make it sort of hard to classify as an upset really. We all had sets of pass on upset watch. It wasn't surprising to me that he lost this match, considering considering the problems that he has, what is a bit surprising is the nature of the last because it wasn't like he just couldn't play. It wasn't like he got absolutely thrashed out there. He lost the big points and very often the better players, even when they're not at their best, even when they're struggling. They squeeze through because they win the big points. And he lost two tie breaks today. It's a Jordan Thompson. The first one, a complete blowout, 7 love. He just had a shocker. And the second one in the third set, his forehand just completely deserted him. And sits passes forehand, one of the best on tour. I think four armed forced errors off that wing in the final set tiebreak, including on match point. And you know, it's a big moment for Jordan Thompson. We were, we were all at queens, what was it 6 years ago now where he had his only other top ten win when he was a lucky loser and beat Andy Murray. And you know, he's not a guy who has a lot of big wins. So it's a massive moment for him and he played, he played very well, but yeah, and all decision, I think, from sits a pass to play, given the problems he's got and the fact that he could have used this time to rest and get strong for the clay court season, which we know is his best time of year. Yeah, I'm really interested in whether he shows up in Miami. I mean, it seems pretty clear to me that he shouldn't go to Miami even if he has a really good week of rehab and recovery now. I mean, as you say, surely he now has to be thinking in terms of just being an absolute prime shape for the clay court season. That clay court season this year feels massive for stephanos to pass and Miami probably needs to be a casualty for that. Well, I do think this tournament should have been a casualty as well. I get the pressure to play these mandatory events and you lose out on points and all the rest of it. But he wasn't fit. He wasn't fully fit. He was passably fit to play the match. He got through it. But he's been beaten by Jordan Thompson and with all due respect to a very good player who we saw really achieve at the Davis Cup late last year. I was impressed with him. He's not in sits of houses league as a tennis player when sits about his right. And he clearly wasn't right today. And I don't like it. I don't like seeing players go out. In front of a full stadium, when they know they're not right, really. I just don't see the point. You're not going to get very far. And here he is out in the first match, just don't do it. Another couple of not quite shocked, but on your brow raises of results in the men's side of things, we've just watched Matteo bartini, go out the hands of Tori Daniel Daniel now going through to face cam nori, of course former champion in the third round. It's a tough old time for bertini, isn't it? I had to retire from his match against Olga runner in Acapulco with a calf injury. We didn't see all of this match against Taro Daniel. We watched most of the third set, but it didn't look to be struggling with injury at all. He was moving just fine. He was just singing. Not up to it. I don't really know where we stand with baritone. I mean, look, I know he's had terrible injury problems, and any illness as well that kept him out of Wimbledon with COVID. And all the rest of it, but he just looks a man bereft in that match today bereft of form and confidence and it's a horrible struggle it looks at the moment because he wants it so much. He's another one of these. A bit like Sid surpassed really great appetite for the sport. And it's just not there. Must be horrible in the grasping for it. Still thinking about that backhand. Maybe he's still thinking about that backhand. The one at against sandy Murray when he had met him. Yes, it may be the fact is, even if he hadn't lost to Andy Murray, he might have lost an argument in the next round or maybe he's never quite been in the form, you know. It was really bad in the first two sets against marry, wasn't he? So maybe that what I'm saying is maybe that back hand was under significant as we as we think. Maybe that backhand was just significant in that match, but I don't know. And in my head. Yeah, Dennis shepherd valov lost today to go and bear. It's all just very Dennis shepherd valor of, wasn't it? Yeah, and he seemed to be gesturing to his box throughout, you know, sort of asking them to leave. And they didn't. And he lost in a whirlwind of unforced errors. From a breakup in both sets and it just felt very familiar, really. You know, we spoke the other day about Denis Shapovalov really pleasantly surprising us and it's been in terms of his piece and players trip you and still think he deserves an awful lot of credit for that. It's been a very long time since Shapovalov pleasantly surprised me on the tennis court. I just know what to expect from Shapovalov. When was the last time you surprised your tennis court? Pleasantly surprised me was when he beat Alexander zverev at the Australian open, what was that a year and a half ago? Yeah. Because that was when he was being coached by Jamie Delgado and it's difficult to know how much cause and effect is involved there, but I think that Denis Shapovalov needs a proper coach and somebody who is going to help him package his game and get the best out of it and

"Well, I just think I have a little bit of in defense of why I didn't necessarily have her as one of my 52 aces in 5 matches in Lyon. That is great, but I mean, as we've talked about before, you've got to have a bit more game than that as well. And I think she does definitely have that. But I think the interesting to see how she moves into some of those bigger drawers because quite a lot of her ranking is based on she talked about herself. She's been in the final over 60 K last year now. She's winning at two 50 and she did pick up a couple of those December WTA one two 5s in France as well. So I think it will be interesting to see what she can do, as you say, add a bigger tournament. But her second server kick a second serve is probably one of the best second serves on the tour. So I will give you that Joel. I'm winning over Chris, but it feels like I'm so we've still got to take time. He's not going to take it on. This is just this one tournament. No, and I'd be a lot of parallels for people talking about her and Serena Williams and all of that, but perhaps we shouldn't go to go to mad early on. Yeah, she's won one title. But with an upset in that final, but we don't want to get ahead of ourselves, but you too can continue fighting over the illicit parks hype, maybe going forward to the rest of the season. Let's look at the ATP events from the past week on tour. We have the Dallas open to talk about first of all because and actually Joel and Chris, you mentioned this earlier in relation to whole gurus, comments about serve bots, we had one of those in the Dallas open final. John Isner. And he was up against Wu Yi Bing, who actually managed to beat him, but what was perhaps not so surprising was the fact that it was three tie breaks that with Wu managing to come through to defeat Isner. 6, 7, 7, 6, 7, 6. The last I break was perhaps the most exciting one of all 1412 and four match points saved for Wu. Chris, whoo is now the first Chinese man to ever have won an ATP tour title. Do you think this is a very significant moment for China as a tennis playing nation on the ATP side of events given the result we saw in Dallas? I think it's really significant. I think it's something that's really important for the tour as well. I think obviously the ATP have continued relations with China and there will be tournaments played in China this year and we know that there's been some really big attention for players like Lena in the past when it comes to the women's side of things. So I think there's always been that question as to why there hasn't been a male player from China who's been able to perform like this and having a player who's on the younger end of the spectrum I think is also very exciting and as you said, I'm very always pleased when someone who we would consider to be potentially a serve but gets their comeuppance in a final because you think you have to work that much harder but I don't think John is no, I was quite surprised. I don't think John Isner should be winning titles on the ATP tour I was surprised to see this result personally that he was in the final, but no, it's a breath of fresh air I think a new Titleist from the first time someone's done that I think mighty impressive. So I say woohoo. I like that. Yeah, it's crazy because his ranking was, I think, in the over 1000 last year, he's had a lot of injuries in his career up to date. So I hadn't really played for about three years prior to last year. But Joel, what did you make of whoo? Because he beat Taylor Fritz and Denis Shapovalov earlier on in the tournament. So great, great wins there for him. Yeah, he's had a fantastic week. As you said, he's been, I think, plagued by injuries over the last few years. I watched a clip of him against Nishikori mountain in Asia a few years ago and it's great, I think, to see him now fulfilling on that potential and that promise and yeah, he was he was so good I think in the final game. Another player coming up against a home hope, home resident, I think, in John Isner and although yeah, I was probably a surprise of which America was going to get to the final given we've spoken about how many Americans are in the top 50. I wouldn't have put John is a necessarily at the top of that list, but it just shows, I think, with a big serve, it can still take you places regardless of if you're perceived to be to be getting on a bit, but I think for whoo, this is an incredibly exciting moment and assuming or hoping for his sake that he can keep his he can keep himself healthy. I have no reason to see why he can't continue to go up the rankings because I think he's got a very, very solid game and could be a big moment for Chinese tennis. I mean, they've got Qing Wang Jiang as well on the women's side. So it seems that they've got two great talents coming up in the game that could really shed a more positive light I think on Chinese tennis because I

All right, we are perhaps looking at a mixture of the training day across the ages it's going to remind ourselves as to what happened on Wall Street, well we saw the S&P down 1.3%. Weakness also for both the S&P that was announced like that 1.3%. We got the S&P 500 and the Dow off by about 8 ten to 1% at the end of the day. Why well one can point to data, we saw a bit of these falls deeply after we consumer spending data, in fact, all of that, of course, again fueling the same stuff. Recession. But it means that the S&P 500 actually did suffer its cruelest first half since president Richard Nixon was in office. We are looking at a mixed and lowered for Asian equities. We've got the Hong Kong and Australian futures indicating some gains. Japan not so much again a down arrow story there for Tokyo. Got a dollar index of the moment, which is dropping back a little bit. In fact, it's down by four tenths of 1%. It's price action devoted more towards EMs rather than some of the majors. We got at the yen and 135 against 78% Euro $1 and four plus change of course and Sterling and $1 21. Now what we have also right now is really certainly a lot of people looking at what's happened over the course of the last 6 months and we saw ten year yields singing to 3% in the session there on Thursday. We have all set the same time looking at perhaps a decade and I have three and a half percent at one stage and that's a look at markets we do check them every 15 minutes. Do San Francisco now? I'm Dan schwarzman that your Bloomberg world sports op day. Markets, headlines, and breaking news 24 hours a day. At Bloomberg dot com, the Bloomberg business app and at Bloomberg quick tape This is a Bloomberg business flash. Hi everybody, 13 minutes before the top of the hour, we update markets every quarter hour here on Bloomberg radio. Down volume on the New York Stock Exchange was tripled out of up volume that tells you the story, the S&P 500 down 2% or so, the NASDAQ down 3%. We have a lot more concerns now with about a gloomy, economic outlook globally, and more talk of U.S. recession, U.S. consumer expectations down to the lowest in about a decade, South Korean consumers are also pessimistic. The sentiment index there dropped to 96.4 this month from one O 2.6. Also, the rise in oil prices and other commodities restock to concerns about inflation not that they really went away, but we had seen a period when commodities had weakened and some investors had hoped that, you know, that was a harbinger of more to come. The concerns in the market outweighed China's move to reduce quarantine times for inbound travelers, that step had lifted hopes of a shift away from COVID zero policies. Chinese officials either because of hubris, they didn't want to admit that they were making a big change or perhaps it's actually what they're saying is that the decision was not a sign of reopening. It was just based on a shorter incubation period of the omicron variant. So that may take a little bit of the sort of heat out of the rallies that we saw yesterday the CSI 300 was up more than 1% and the Hangzhou index valid. The futures today are decidedly lower. All the N one 36 O 7, the big short, the big Japan short, still very much in play there. And the yield on the ten year treasury now 3.17% WTI, one 1189 a barrel. So a lot of crosscurrents in markets may be no discernible trend at the moment. All right, that is a check of markets. Let's get the latest in headline news. Here's a Baxter in San Francisco. All right, Brian, the congressional January 6th committee witnessed Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows aide Cassidy Hutchinson saying the president wanted guns to let be let into his rally to take down the monitoring machines

"Haven't played ever on girls before addicting. They've paid each other for a few years. So the quite interesting to see how this one goes I picked curb for the semi-solid she. Which is i think the prediction. I've got right this whole fortnight. Yes you've been telling me this about like six times over the last week. I'm so delighted. I was yeah. Really cheering cabral on this This week and i mean. I like macabre and great. She's only played. I think the major of wimbledon twice and she's reached the quarterfinals pave times that i think she's a third woman in wimbledon history to do that so she does love girl. School does make of a cable was able to come through In straight-sets sixty six three and Which surprised my thought this. At the capacity to go three sets by think cub it was very efficient when it came to converting the chances that she did have you know four six break points When it when push came to shove just stepped up again. I think the of a full hand was was quite off in this match and she just wasn't at the races. No it was not good. There are a lot of unforced errors particularly from the check. Twenty seven in total six more than covers but. Yeah it was interesting to hear from recover afterwards she. She obviously went in with a game plan but she was not able to execute it and actually she was very much kind of rushing. Lots of points. And that's what i think led to a lot of these kind of unforced ariza. She wasn't really playing. In the moment she was kind of visualizing. I think maybe one two steps ahead of rather than thinking about the you know the net shop and again i think with someone like angelique kerber opposite year. Such a defensive minded of counterpuncher style a player. I think you really need to face someone of covers ability. You really did each one point of time because she can create such unique angles. I think on the call and move move your she moves her opponents about the court very very well and you know it's it's another very fascinating story on hit because cuppa. She won wimbledon. In in two thousand eighteen speech serena williams. We will remember that. But since then she's really done nor law and she wasn't able to obviously grosses is arguably her best surface and she wasn't able to pay on it in in two thousand nineteen because of the pandemic and the fact that she is coming into this one winning one of the Cross lead up. Events gang to the semifinals is. Everybody has may be fake. Whoever she is one of the most unfortunate players in terms of not having that cross cool season loss in two thousand nineteen because it does seem to elevate her game. Yeah a in twenty twenty joe. He was saying means getting confused. Because it's euro twenty two hundred twenty magical messed up. Yeah i really knew what was cool. Was this kind of renascent from kerber. Take new if she changed setup. All something's going on in her past life for it but it is really nice to see her finally back up at this level of islam. And you just getting that toy too. I think you know at home in germany. Just the confidence of match wins. And she'll say behave ping if she does get past balti she'll be hoping place grid in the final because apparently cub never lost to czech player as a grand slam tournament. Say i think that's what she'll behaving for. She does make the final. But i mean let's just cut of bake some predictions shall we joe because see. We've got fishkhabur against lenka bossy against curb. I mean who do you think we're going to be seeing in the women's final. come saturday. well. I mean we talk about balti- versus kerber. This for me is the i think for me. This is the balki this is the bulky semifinal by players. Just you know that already. I think very much kind of fan favorites with the crowds for different reasons. I think and i think she's obviously been at this stage before. And you talk about know confidence and i think that is one of the things that has kind of led her to this point you know. She's had if payments along along the way she had that very tense match that very long match against three best tool mo- she was down to sosevic as well. And i think you know one another you know another day You know a year or two ago. I think kerber would have just sort of wilted in and gone out rather meekly but as you said. I think the confidence she's paying with at the maidment has really kind of helped turn. I think she will. She will need all of that. I think when she comes up against bharti. And i think this could really play out like that saribas told by batch. I don't see this big. I feel i feel like this could be very much a battle of a lot of extended rallies. It could feel like about the you. Look at all the time it takes to to face. It could feel like it's the klay cool because base players is not an necessarily known for hitting aggression and not. Win is so yeah. It's gonna be a very interesting tactical battle. I think it might. It might show us. I think how you who's got the better. I think tennis mind and and being able to kind of adapt on the call. I mean if you're gonna also became who i'm still going for. I'm still going to guy with faulty. I just think she's been playing some very very good tennis. Just come through with minimal. Fuss and i think maybe she'll come through against cub by certainly think it's going to go into three sets. I wonder if kerber having played so much more tennis as well. In the las t weeks with that title and having the longer matches hair as well especially that saribas tool may match. I wonder if that might come into it like a bit of fatigue. Yeah i think three sets. I have a feeling of outcome. I'm gonna cover okay. I'm tight in really tight. Three a the other semifinal piscopo blanca. I feel like sampling linka is. I think her game might suffer as a result of pressure. I feel like she..

"Really good coop position often putting a big serve in a moving. You bore about so that. She wasn't to kind of harare on a variety onto the points. Because i certainly think that again with with how the match unfolded. I just didn't think that you bull was really given a chance to show the variety that she she authors. And you know credit. I think to sap length of just just stopping that it is tracks and you know getting getting through has been a you know a very very good couple of weeks for your poor taking out taking out moog aretha and taking out taking out. He's tech exactly the last round so again. Blanka was did very well. I think to kind of forget. Forget all of that and just play her game because she has been has been under pressure. I think she hasn't handled that pressure. While in imposs- grandsons we sold out the french open bagel d- by Pavlik shankar on her on her way out in the third set so to come here handle the pressure. Get through to the semi finals for the first time. Thinks you'll be very very happy without absolutely and again. She was very focused and composed and disciplined in that much again. All and actually do we forget that she has one grandson. Before in the women's doubles with elise mertens and they made a conscious decision. Not pay together slams. I think so that they could. Well certainly zeppelin could fake us more singles and paps finally. That's that's helping as well. You have a definitely. I mean watching saba lenka against bulte earlier on You know in week one. It was definitely clear to see her her singles pay reaping the rewards of all that doubles action. She has You know under about with buttons particularly at the net Net game's improved. And you know. I think around about You know she. She played you bore. I think in. I think it was. It was a year. remember the match. They played before this slam. She lost she lost. And i think she's just become a better player to be honest The loss over the last year. Or so and i think doubles certainly helped her in that respect yeah absolutely and harem fishkhabur ferry similar in the sense that they're both gonna be serving four hundred focus. I think it will be. It'll be wanting to make sure you sure. I fill out the points it could be as again. There's going to be a lot. Riding on this on the semifinal. I just take it could be a very almost came expecting to see a very high winds count also expected to see a very high unforced errors count. It could go disastrously wrong with an old base. I mean we might see a semi final with a horrendous. Tally of unforced errors. Well we see the complete opposite. I mean honestly. I'm quite looking forward to it. We'll get onto predictions in a bed. But let's discuss the other side of the draw because with the world number-one ashkenazi against former world number-one and former wimbledon champion. Angie kerber i mean. Let's just look at bossie festival. She had probably the most straightforward much against auditor. Malevich needed just over an hour to get through six one six three. I think which won the first game. And how does serve and then lost seven games or something like that and it was very much one way traffic For a long time. I mean interestingly they think he was actually a best today yesterday rather around of it's really could have i think played better of course but certainly made beta bit more of bharti i mean have first-serve percentage i one point twenty five percent. Which normally if you're going to be playing for cystic like that you would expect your opponent to to read more than one game in a set. Yeah you would definitely be. i mean. That's very impressive. For bash balti to be serving such low numbers. I think in terms of first serves and mc come out with a six one scoreline in the first set. Yeah it was very very impressive. I just think tomjanovich she. Just as much as i think the variety. If you bought didn't really work against sabah lenka felt like this was sort of the opposite and bhatti's variety was just a bit too much for tomjanovich was just a bit too much gag on for her to kind of get grasp on and home ianovich. I just don't think i mean we. We don't really associate her style of play with producing lots and lots of winners in the match against radic. Candy up to the point of the The retirement that was that was very few winners from buffets. In fact in that match but again in this match tomjanovich very very few Win i think she. Tony hit one winner. Three to trailing six one full one in the second-set and if you're not going to hit winners you so relying on affability. I think two unforced aras and the way i sh quality has been playing. Yes she had that. Little blip against suarez navarro when she lost that second tie-break but she looked very very good and although again i think she's been one of these players he's not necessarily paid the most higher the higher ranked players. She's just come through it very very efficiently and up in impressed. Milton lee by her Uh serving maybe. Apart from that that first set she was managed to bring up in the second set. But certainly i think the host eric count. She's enabled to keep Down and really asking the questions of our opponent. Yeah exactly. I mean i think she's. She has come through the troll without much fossil fanfare bonus and nothing is easy to therefore underestimate her. You know she's she's kind of novak djokovic space and come through very straightforwardly in she has such for is in a me. She is living up to the world's the world number-one rang yam again You know it shouldn't be. It shouldn't be a surprise now and it goes back to that conversation about round the rankings way. Balti- was off because of the pandemic in sort of wasting out in australia. But i've been very very impressed. Kind of coming back from that. Yes she had a little bit of an injury off to the french open. That maybe had a bit of a doubt around but to see combat full-throttle at wimbledon has been a gain. It's been an absolute pleasure to see how kind of progress through taking dismantling her opponents. I'm sure there are going to be son attempts to come. And she is the current world number one and a guy she will feel like this is an opportunity to add another grand slam To her cabinet. Yeah and well. The women's she's to beats tomorrow as copa. He of course was former world number-one indem actually..
