And I read Ortiz. You know, earlier in the show, we got a call about the oaks Derby future wager. And we've heard stuff about hoosier Philly and you were mentioning the cult and there are some other Phillies. I thought what was really interesting this last weekend is that phase was not transferred from Bob Baffert to a an eligible trainer for the possibility of earning points toward the Kentucky oaks. Because it just makes so much sense to ask the question, why was she not transferred? Obviously, she is one of the better three year old Phillies in the country this year. Whether or not you think she's the best, or she has a chance in the Kentucky oaks. She certainly one of the ones at this point. And she would be one of the favorites I believe in the Kentucky oaks if she wins the San Anita oaks in her next start. But the fact that they didn't transfer away from baffert. Is that a loyalty that mister Peterson asked a baffert? Does he have some sort of a grudge against Churchill downs? I can't imagine it's just the fact that he doesn't think that she's good enough to win the Kentucky oaks. I don't think that's why they wouldn't transfer it. But none of the stories ask that question or wrote about it, even to the point of saying there was no comment when asked about this. And that bothers me a little bit. You know, faustin, I would say this, he worked on February 18th and hadn't worked again. And they had that decision to make before the 28th. And I'm a little bit thinking a little bit suspicious because I drafted him in a fantasy poll. I'm a little bit suspicious that something happened to him coming out of that work and he might be sidelined. So to me, the Derby and oaks are different equations. Royal Belmont skipped the oaks with royal delta like, you know, 6, 7 years ago. I think if Pfizer was a Philly and she was healthy, she might be switching, but yeah, it looks like she's aiming for the black eyed Susan. But first of all, let's talk about your post you put up on instagram yesterday you you shared a short video of yourself eating the prince, which is a mushroom I hadn't heard of this one before. So tell me about in how long have you been consuming it well, it's one of my favorite mushrooms. It's not a common one I found that various parts of the country the property where I live at the moment in British Columbia they come up. At this time of year and sometimes in the fall, it's a big. Very Meaty, beautiful mushroom us, fairly easy to identify. It's related to the button mushroom. That's in that same family. It has a very strong fragrance of almond extract that persists when you cook the mushroom. So it's just delightful and I was so happy to find these and they tend to get attacked by insect larvae very early on. So it's hard to find a specimens that are intact and the ones that I found your so far have been completely pristine. So sliced them up, sauteed them in olive oil little salt and pepper, and they're great knifes some more coming up that I'm going to. Pick today Nice. So you're foraging those rate on your property. There is a very hot early spring here, and then it's been cool and rainy but things are doing really well I've been harvesting lot of lettuce herbs potatoes tomatoes aren't right yet corn is tasked. Laying beginning years I have a lot of bees I get a great deal of my food from the garden. Let's talk about besides the food and this ties into the whole topic a happiness that we're going to really dig into talk about on a mental and spiritual level. What do you get from being in the garden while first of all to connection with nature and when I was looking into the reasons for the epidemic of depression that we have in North America, you know one of the factors in Addis disconnection from nature I mean there are many other factors, but that's certainly one of them. Even been described as nature deficit disorder I. Think any way you can connect with nature spending time outdoors. If you're stuck indoors even being around houseplants or companion animals is helpful but I, think that's something we really need for mental emotional and spiritual well-being right and talk about how you go about incorporating houseplants in tier environment in the home and specifically what that does. and My home in Tucson, my home is really filled with house plants here in BC. Since I'm not here, all year, I don't have plans inside but I have a you know an incredible landscape and forest here and and Garden Bing around plants makes me happy and I'm very tuned into their well being you know people talk about having green thumbs or Brown thumbs I think it's mostly a matter of paying attention that if you pay attention plants, let you know what they need or what they're not getting. Have you always been a green thumb or something that took you a lot of years to get to. Now it's from early childhood and something I got from my mother that she got from her mother even though I grew up in a row. House in Philadelphia had very little land around it my mother and I would garden we plant sayings and Plant Bulbs and that really awakened my interest in the plant world, and ultimately that led me to be to study botany as an undergraduate.

The Rediscovery Of The Colorado Orange Apple
"As the decade comes to a close we can now report that in fact you can mix apples and oranges well kind of in the western. United States Apple. Well an thr- apologists are excited about the rediscovery of an apple variety that was believed to be extinct. It's called the Colorado Orange Apple Jud Shannon Meyer of the Montezuma Orchard Restoration Project in South Western Colorado. Helped track down the Orange Apple. We asked him what makes it so special so the Colorado oranges a mix of sweet and tart being a winter apple. The flavor opens up over time so winner apples like the Colorado orange. You wouldn't even think of starting to eat until Christmas. You'd go through all your summer apples all your fall apples. You'd have these in the root cellar. And then starting Christmas. You'd start to pull these out and month by month. The flavor would open up a little bit of the suite would go a little bit of the. Tang might but they were still going to be very flavorful. They have some of the most complex flavors of any apples. You'll ever have. They said culinary have some of the most complex flavors you'll ever have anything. The Colorado Orange was popular in the late eighteen hundreds but around the nineteen forties. It started to disappear the biggest thing it had going against. It was a yellowish wish. Orangish glow apple at a time when America was going into monoculture where shiny red apples were considered the only apples worth buying. It wasn't because it was bad quality or didn't grow. Well it lost out like so many of the thousands and thousands of apple varieties that have gone extinct. It lost out because it wasn't the Shiny Red Apple Shanta Shanta Myer says locals around Canyon City Colorado cherished the Orange Apple. They knew it was a really high quality apple winner Apple. Good Keeping Apple in in Canyon. City of the memory of it was kept alive for a long time in the old timers. Like Oh yeah. I used to have a tree at died but we kept thinking there was still going to be one around we. We felt like we could still find one and so he and his wife. ADDIE started combing the state two years ago. We were in Canyon City in this orchard in December. And this person Mr Diana said. Hey I've got a tree also and he took us to a tree my wife. Addie and I looked at it and Lo and behold on the ground underneath the tree and the duff there were. These orange blushed apples apples and then on the tree. There were some of the apple still hanging and it had that really good sub acid flavorful. Taste that you'd expect from a winner apple so yeah it was a it was a a big moment for us. But the Shannon Myers have been careful and taking their time. They did cutting edge. DNA testing and compared their find to some archival wax apple full replicas at Colorado State University. They wanted to make sure they'd found the actual orange apple of memory because it's considered extinct. There's probably never in absolute but we've got his close to an absolute as we can between this newest new DNA technology the historical purvey of the orchard itself in and the waxed apple to compare it to.
