"So i'm like they can win this game. I just don't expect it. Because i've seen this movie in. This movie starts out this particular way. So i did not expect this whatsoever. So i'm gonna talk a little bit. Why this was one of the most fulfilling opening games i've ever seen and i wanna ask you guys but i i want to ask you your knee jerk reactions and opening remarks and let me start with tony i. This is why it's great to be a fan. Because i'm one of the people who didn't pick them to win. I thought they would. I thought it'd be a close game like the last two war between the two teams the kind of defensive battle a lot of turnovers maybe the bills would pull it out. That i mean i and it looked like it was heading in that direction after the first two quarters But i was pleasantly surprised by how they turn things around in the second half. They clearly have a lot of work to do on offense. There's no question you can't deny that. They have a lot of work yet they have to do. They have a lot of young guys on that offense. New coordinator new office of line coach. It's not going to a whole new often my basically so it's not gonna. They're not gonna gel overnight but that defense is it's elite. It's top shelf. And and i just to me and i was saying this off season. I thought it was impossible to think that this team or silly to think the team's only gonna win four or five games with that defense. It's just too good to be that kind of a team when you're that elite on one side of the ball you're gonna you're gonna be in just about every game so my my knee jerk. Reaction is while when a great defense and it reminds me a lot of the late. Oh teams shannon white. What were your initial thoughts. When that game was over read you can start off with When the first half was over in your thoughts at the end of the game so what was going through your mind all along my friend. I was aggravated at myself for not listening to my own advice. I had said. I picked against him which i rarely do pick the bills. Twenty eight to twenty four. And i said all along that the steelers office doesn't have to be the best in the late with the defense and special teams that they they just got to be good enough and show stating improvement each week To hopefully be playing their best you know when they get to the playoffs Aspect to struggle which they did the first half was was was very Inconsistent insists that they couldn't get anything going on no chemistry or cohesion They made halftime adjustments. Something they never used to do and Made strung together enough big plays and and pass it affirms calls and To put some points you know gets a few scoring drives going and at the huge so i was very Heavy after the game An aggravated at myself for not having more faith Because you know if i listen to myself out of probably take you know what. Here's here's the thing. And i'm i'm gonna bring up ryan brown. I bryan brown is a A great contributor on the live chat definitely a A big supporter of all of our se podcasts. I'm not the guy that says all right. I'm gonna pick the raiders so the steelers will win. I don't do that. I mean i i am not. I'm not that full of myself saying that i can. I can change the outcome. Even though i did panic at the beginning of the game. And we'll talk about this too. I was wearing a white minka fitzpatrick jersey in like turn the game on. And i see chris boswell with black on and i. I was weird run. I'm like no no no no no no no no and i ran and i put on a word but by the time i got it on seventy five yard return.

"Gosh who am i missing. And there's more out. There say bans probably. He's hovering around the tenth spot right now. I think he's not. He's not my top five. I'm sorry to say. I think josh allens closer to top. Five than ben is at this point. It's just the way it is he's younger. He's he's like a. he's like ben fifteen years ago. So you know. It's hard to beat that. Hopefully the old gun gunslinger can do that this week. The march accents probably up there a little bit closer to top five because what he means his team in this offense that team revolves round. Him as he goes they go. So i'd say lamar's up there too pretty high. I think justin herbert. He's only had one year. But i think he's in the top ten right now collar murray. I mean there's a lot of great young quarterbacks out there so but then still pretty good. I don't care what you rank them if you want to rank him fifth or tenth. He's still pretty. Gosh darn good and you need that guy to win and the one thing that we have to remember what the t. j. watt thing. The contract is as valuable as he is as important as he was to get under contract if they don't have if they go five years after ben without finding another really good quarterback they're probably not going to win. That just shows you how valuable it is. How valuable a franchise quarterback is you can rank them anywhere you want. You can have all these debates if you have that guy. You have a chance unless there's hope that ben does so much. This year that he gets people were mad. If he stuff out out of the top five discussion and that on that note. "So here we go here. We go the cleveland. Browns have to come into town. This could be. I don't know what their records going to be. This could be for the division crown. They might be resting guys. Who knows or they might be locked in the same record. I am going to say this. The pittsburgh steelers. Oh the browns at heinz field. I had them losing in cleveland. I'm saying that they're going to punch him out this week on week. Sixteen i'm putting the win. The steelers over the browns big brother steps up again. Shannon white shannon. I didn't hear you. You can't frozen for a second. Okay no Yeah i think the steelers. That's the game. I had marked on schedule. That that's the payback You know. I actually say the browns would win in at home but when they come to pittsburgh Think the the stores are going to put up. So yeah expect to win that game and to expose baker mayfield by slow down that running game and then making may feel beta of sorry. I'm having problems here. Tony go ahead. It's going to be a repeat last october. Hopefully without the tornado. Acl to win. A steelers players four touchdown kind of win for them. I think they're going to make a statement heading into the final week ten and six all right so let's go ahead and look at the last game of the season it will be against the baltimore ravens right now. I have the. I have the steelers at ten and six as well. I'm actually going to say that this is going to be a game. That might not even matter. I just have this weird feeling about this game here. I'm going to go ahead and say that on this time in baltimore that i think it's more of a split so i'm gonna go ahead and say they lose this game. Finish the season but finish the playoffs. Tony i get the feeling this is going to be one of those games. Where the winner of this game wins the division the loser stomachs the playoffs. But there's no shot at a by for either team. I'm gonna. I'm gonna say the steelers eek went out and And when the division afc north for the second year in a row alright. And what's your final. What does that put you at eleven. Six eleven eleven six all right shannon white eleven five going into this game affect the stores will have already won the division and they won't play a lot of starters and beaten cleveland the week prior is going to answer division and then against the ravens. I think they'll be setting a lot of star so aspect to delays that last game and end up Found record of eleven and six. Are i d. I have them at ten and seven but that does not mean that this team is not going gonna go far in the playoffs. I still feel very special about this team. I think the seventeen game season makes things a whole lot different. Where ten and seven is a lot like ten and six was a year before or any other year. So i think that's that's a pretty good year where you don't want to be in is nine and eight you know you don't want to be in an age range so with all of that being said i still find what ten and seven i am not pessimistic. Just sometimes you got to be a realist. With how the steelers play and everything and they have a tough division. They haven't tough schedule you know. They have one super bowls without winning the division. They've gone far in the playoffs without winning the division so i can see that being a very successful season as well. So we're gonna get ready to wrap everything up here but we're just going to say i'm just gonna ask you guys real quick. We're going to go rapid fire through this without even explanation. I'm gonna say team. Mvp and. i'm going to say rookie of the year. Joe greene performance award winner. So shannon white. First of all who is your. Mvp for the steelers this year. been tony. Minka wow brian. anthony davis. I'm going to go with najji harris shannon white. Your rookie of the year nudge ears. Tony number twenty two all right. I have to say najji harris. If i'm saying that he's the mvp as well. So i'm going to say that he's gonna sweep it. I do like everybody mentioning mentioning big. Ben's mvp actually a direction that i was going to go with as well but i'm thinking i'm thinking more about nausea. I mean realistically. I would put more money on. I would probably put more money though on big ben to win the mvp this year for the steelers. I actually think you will. But i'm still going naci so that being said thanks so much everyone. "So here we go. Let's let's continue with this. And i'm not sure who should go first. So i'm just gonna say shannon white denver broncos What are your thoughts there. It looks like it's going to be bridgewater a quarterback and they they have a talented squad but again with the game. Being in pittsburgh The sewers or more talented and they'll be able to get to bridgewater ad soft stars. Tony denver broncos coming to town It could be bridgewater if things. Don't you've got bridgewater and you've got lock. I mean makes me think of. There's hey a lot of aquatic Francis so we'll the steelers. I'm going to try. This will the steelers. Be damned in this game and i'm actually going to be one of those quote unquote tom and losses. I was going to happen sooner or later right so it's got to happen at some point so week. Five at home to the broncos team. You're probably supposed to beat either ten brighter or drew lock. Figure should be able to have your way with them. I'm going to predict a close loss because They've had their hands full with this team the last couple times they played them. So i'm going to say to gonna say ross. Tony wearing the pessimistic hat. But you know that happens. Those those surprise losses do happen. I think the broncos are are very talented team. I am going to go ahead and say that this is going to be a win. But i'm stepping on. I'm stuck stepping on shannon's toes here so shannon. Go ahead now. I thought that the stars go to bates bronco. Yeah okay you. You already said that. Yeah okay. I've i've i've had a long week so i do apologize. So here we go. Let's go ahead and go to another home game. This time in primetime. It is going to be a late night game. And gosh. I hate those late. My games especially when you're doing the show Trying to do the post-game afterwards but the only thing that that makes you feel good is when they win those late night game. Tony am i going to be happy or am. I going to be miserable staying up late in week six. Who plan that game. Oh maybe i should tell you that. The seattle seahawks. That's what i thought. Yeah i this is gonna be one of those backs up against a wall games. If the broncos game thomas loss this is your your typical. Tom and win time at home against really good opponent. They're gonna to win and they're going to win. Impressively shannon white. Is that an impressive win or are you thinking differently. I don't think the seahawks is going to be quite as good this years. They have been I think that where. I think they're going to beat the broncos. They got a big Showdown the next week with the browns. So i'm afraid that this is going to be one of them tough games even though they're usually really get in prime time they're not as good on sunday night as they are. Say monday night. So i actually think when they might lose. I'm actually gonna say that they're going to lose that game to. I hate to say that at home. But i've got to be realistic. The idea grew jeff. Hartmann that there are going to be bumps on the road. And i think this is going to be one of those bumps. I do like tony's rationale though saying that you when you come off of he has them losing to the denver broncos in he can see this being a signature win against a team. So i like that. Another signature win against a great team would have to be on halloween two weeks later in cleveland. My gosh the cleveland. Browns are obsessed with this team. They're obsessed with the pittsburgh steelers. I'm worried about this game. Because i think they're becoming dangerous they are. They're really eating up what they're shoveling. Let's just put it that way So with with that being said who goes. I hear shannon. I believe you go first on this one. yes that one is going to be. I think they'll split with the browns and the lose the game at cleveland. Alrighty i just think that at home for cleveland to fired up and abbas watching their some of their training camp just to check out and see what was going on and it's got a different feel it cleveland Not just you know. The fans are always ready but even when they suck Erodes state you know they still the fans were you know support but The way they run the practice it was much more. It was christopher. It's it's even like a far more professional The way they were handled the situation. The the timing for one drill to the next and If you'd watched it in the some other stuff in the past they didn't look like that So i think they've taken a a real step forward and they're going to be an issue so i think they win that game and you know what shannon. I think that they finally have a head coach. And it's not the same browns. Because of kevin stefanski. And i think that's the the biggest reason here that i think this is going to be a loss as well but i don't wanna step on tony so tony go ahead. What are your thoughts. This might be the last time. Big ben plays in cleveland. I'm not going to get really analytical and this one. I'm just going to say big ben in cleveland he. He has more wednesday nanny quarterback. I think maybe maybe mayfield finally beat him. I don't know. But yeah. I think big ben's gonna to go to beat the browns in cleveland and they're gonna take a step back and go. Can we really be. I mean they beat him in the playoffs last year but have we really turned the corner. It's going to be one of those games for the browns. They're gonna be wondering if they really turn a corner. Four and three well really nice. Okay so. I predicted two losses in a row. Then they go home on monday night. Football eight days later if that stays. Because if i'm not mistaken. I think that they are now allowing some flexibility With the schedule and moving. Monday night games. I don't think they would move this one this early in november with flex scheduling so. This should be safe but the chicago bears could be the nathan fields coming the town. I think the steelers come back in a big way here so. Let's go with tony on this one monday night. Football shannon said usually really gonna. Monday night football i and at home. I look for them to to win this game. I i like. I like fields but yeah i don't see them losing this game. "And evan goal says no. I don't think we should cut your necessarily. He does make some good blocks here and there. I mean he's a he's a good all round player. He's not a great player but nobody ever said he was. He's a good tight end and sometimes good players have flaws in his is unfortunate for him and dropping dropping passes every now and then but i don't think it's enough. I don't think it's enough that cut them. Which is what a lot of people are saying not really cut him but trade him. Which why would you want to like. What good would a seventh round pick do. If you want to get rid of eric hebron adamant portnoy koumba says asks if a team traded a quarter if a team suffered a quarterback injury and we were offered a twenty two twenty twenty two third round pick for either mason or haskins. Which one would you trade. Well i would probably trade Rudolph so i think haskins has higher upside I want to and he's a restricted free agent next year. So he's going to be here again next year so i know that actually until recently. They're both pretty. They're has route up went under contract so if they can get a third round pick form. That'd be great but i wouldn't actively shop either one of those guys that keep more on the roster because i think you have to if rudolph ceiling as a backup then he wouldn't be a bad backup to have next year provided benz gone. And you have to go with the younger quarterback like like a rookie or if you decide to go with haskins we should have rudolph. This is the last week of the preseason as the pittsburgh steelers play one more game in the next four days. I'm so excited because the regular season is upon us. What is it twenty days from today. That the pittsburgh steelers can be playing for real. That is that's big stuff and my name. Is brian anthony davis. I'm the podcast producer here at behind the curtain dot com and. What's going on man just a bit hot today. I think without the score jeter weather the rest mid eighties is hot and all that bad weather coming up the coast just keeping all the hot humid air right above us. It's been war and speaking of hot a guy who's been hot for every decade since the nineteen seventies. Tony what is up man. Just hanging out mccaren the shop all day and i did a lot of reading so it was pretty quiet. Monday and shannon's right. I went outside to walk to get my car. And i couldn't at the exercise i needed today. So it's not the heat. It's the humidity the gets you so when you're at the bar it's the humidity of tony. Sheffield that is going to going to score. You have ladies have no chance with the humidity. Now that's true. Although lately it's been like a drought so and then again you know humidity's not a good thing then because humidity is a one hot air so that's not good Let's just say this tony. I don't think that you're as bad as what i was back. In the ninety s at one point when pop singers got together to do a tribute album for me. That's how much of a drought. I was in so with that being said and you know we're we're good to go. We're you're good. I tell you you're you're fine. I'm rooting for you. So with that being good. What just an unbelievable streak in the red zone going back to whenever the penn state as far as catching every pass thrown to him. So i'm very excited about him. You know and people were so focused on his blocking. I don't think it's should be looking when it comes to fry. Headaches should be excited about the fact that he might be really great weapon for them sooner rather than later in the passing game. You know what. I'm gonna ask a guy in the live chat here. Because i haven't talked to you about pat yet. I know you're a big nittany lion fan. When you're talking about grunk xxx in talking about chelsea's and talking about the chances of the world and maybe even the george kettles if he's even close if he's on that second tier but a right below those guys You know heath is the best tight end in stones history but he was at a great run after the. Catch guy you know. He caught everything. He was very reliable but he was an excellent blocker as well. I think farm. Youth has the potential to be that kind of blocker. But i think he might have a little bit more.

There's the one when you are face down in a puddle of muck because you're drowning your sorrows on things going wrong in your life. That steeler game did not go anybody's way the opponents and the ad you kinda feel on it in kind of need some self help you kind of need a group chat you kind of need some therapy or in pittsburgh we like to call it therapy and if you have a chance to get that you can and that's what the show's all about. Then there's the other kind of hangover when you're partying because things are going right in your feeling so good and the steelers just went. I mean he seemed to be exposed on of especially in the past hasn't game but but like i talked about the other day you know and as you said brian the scheme you know. They're not keith. Butler didn't run much of anything as far as schematics. You didn't do a whole whole lot of game planning same mad canada and he's not playing with bush. He's not playing with mickey fitzpatrick. He's not playing with trump into those guys. As far as the passing game and covering tight ends and running backs they do a lot of the heavy lifting and they leave linebackers like like spelane and before. Him fence williams. They freed them up to do their thing so and they full team defense and he got cameron there and in all those studs i think would be a little better off. So i'm not that worried about him. I think he's he could be another fence williams type linebacker and that's all they really need him to be provided devin bush is is the player they think it can be when he When they drafted him two years ago. I i thought he had a decent game. I was pleased with was his most extensive action right. Preseason or regular students. I was i was happy with his performance. But about you shannon. Somebody just said was paid for pirates or pierre. It's actually for both both he. If you watch the first draft they had him up within you know it was like he was pressing the line and and because he can play man man he could play zone. He's he's a natural boundary corner and inept i drive he was right up our jayme and the guys and and so the second drive. They moved him back off. Round like five yards like they like to do because they mix up coverage and in the guy cut across his face post there. He didn't have safety w made to tackle immediately. But if you watch even when. They switched defenses and concepts. He's always in a good position. They was a couple of receptions that he was right there to knock the ball away and the guy might get kitsch but he's taking a step when he get the same last year in the preseason at all because there wasn't one and he's still made the team and ended up contributing an avalanche that that he will start at some point. This year is a boundary corner. And then when you look at the talent you know. I mean i was concerned about the cornerback position and then you got Brown and gilbert two undrafted free agent. Just like pair was ice that are really starting to show up. Make plays the cam and they're going to get the preseason games too so like brian was saying they've they're having they're gonna have some really good death. Yeah i agree in as a bmw. Said i go. Where did flash on on thursday mason place in on monday. Training can't be broke up a pass in the end zone and one of those Seven shot drill. So you know you gotta develop these. You can't just get all your you can't address all your needs. But premium draft picks. You have to find undrafted. Free agents guys off the scrap heap Project type players develop them. That's what you're good coaches do. So you know. Learn a lot of people excited about gilbert and shakoor brown. So it might. It might be a lot of tough decisions on the final rauscher when it comes into secondary might be tougher than we thought going into camps. So that's exciting and on that note as a good first half a show. "A complete i just go completely off the. Are you watching the olympics at all. i'm trying to. I'm trying to watch as much as i can. But it's it's hard because you know. I have basic cable. So it's hard to really. It's it's on all these nbc. What sister stations. I guess and so. It's hard for me to keep up. But i'm trying to watch i. I'm trying to watch much volleyball. I can't do you like regular volleyball or do you like beach volleyball. I like them both. I'm a big fan of beach volleyball. That you also. I'm a fan of the my. Mrs vat and i are watching a lot of lot of swimming. Nl swimming's kind of tailing off. I mean but wow amazing. Just amazing. And i've been a little fight. You've noticed a slack channel. I've been in a fight with mattie several because maddie's talking about all the australian guy the osceola women and he was dissing my girl katie la- decky who probably lives about her hometown's about forty five fifty minutes for me and maryland girl. i love katy la becky. Defa what you see an out of the south side and now going into heinz field. I just continue to be impressed. By the reports of shannon said about the focus and how player like nike harris is he. He can't get enough work he just can't he can't do enough and like we said. In the summer they have or earlier in the time to go home and report. You're hearing about pat fryer muse and even even antoine brooks. I wasn't expecting here. Why hear anything from him. And now you're talking. You're hearing reports of how he's doing decent in the slot and there's a player that maybe not a lot of people thought about as a candidate for that position so i mean i'm just excited about about the young guys because they're going to need to depend on a lot of young guys this year. So that's something we are going to be talking about in the show. So let's save. Some antoine brooks talked for a little bit later because he is definitely going to come up on this show and we are going to talk about on this show players that are shining already that you didn't expect to those guys. It is first of all dan moore junior on saturday to fights in a row to place fights one with isaiah bugs one with cam hayward you a lot of times that is that's an earning respect factor and guys like cam or pushing a rookie to see how far they'll go so that's not anything to worry about but you also wonder with isaiah bugs. Somebody made a mention today is why is this guy. Always get into fights. What's up with isaiah butts right tony. I think it's a good sign. It goes back hearkens back to what they were talking about in the spring during the draft or after the draft or how they were trying to find more aggression among the offensive lineman last year with thoughts. Of course we heard that. We've heard that about kendrick green and now dan moore who you know who's apparently really aggressive in ornery and trying to make name firms of my question is i didn't think they were allowed to even really scrimmage scrimmage pad so it's impressive that they're getting into fights without without pads that tells me that he must really want it shannon. Does that mean that he really wants it. Does that mean that he is so fired up in ready to go. Does that mean that. He's being tested by the veterans. What does that mean with dan more. Oh definitely he adrian. Klemm ovid's vlad coach. He screamed all these guys before the draft to talk to him. And and i guarantee you. He stressed that this is the direction we're going and we're going to be mean. We're going to be nasty. We're going to be physical and he said earlier. You know if you if you ain't gonna bring it here but it's going to be on the bench and i think that more took that to heart. He's in there and so naturally the veterans are going to try to test him a little bit and you know these happens in the hot sun i turn and the you know these high temperatures. You know the blood ball's a little bit and temperatures flair and it's a great thing i said i'd much rather have to tell it. Take it down a notch kicking him into but to get him to you know. I that was just an incredible credible defense and if the steel curtain eight the events of all time well i mean you can is said many times that that that front ford such so much heavy lifting and created so much opportunities for for him and lamberton andy russell and of course secondary to make plays you know because ham was one of the in lambert were two of the greatest pass coverage Linebackers ever as far as you know the depth that they said that lambert would get on on in in pass coverage down the middle was unprecedented. At that time he was such a great. The people don't think of them as a great ethic you such a reputation of being a tough guy with the the missing teeth and everything but he was a fantastic athlete and of course ham was too and i think when when he was playing with the all time leader in interceptions for linebacker. So now that front four. Just it's like you said it was spread. Everything was just spread out amongst among everybody because front four did such a great job of dominating. The line of scrimmage weaken week out and we can only hope that a someday soon else agreement gets in there. So it's been a fun show and we're we're getting up against Sixty minutes so. "Was joshua dobbs man. This is going to be a really interesting battle. You've got a veteran. That ben loves and when i say the ben loves when you go to the when you look at the sideline who's been talking to bend brought up joshua when mason rudolph was drafted. Ben is tight with joshua and joshua dobbs is look we know he's a rocket scientist. We get that. But he's an intelligent football player and we've seen that the very little that we've seen him play you can see his intelligence. I mean intelligence in football in a quarterback real it shows and this is a guy that you have going up a a young player. Like dwayne haskins maligned. His first two years that is known for is known for athleticism. We ben roethlisberger said he can throw a football through a car wash without again wet. That's awesome but there were mental lapses. This is not to say. The dwayne haskins is a dumb blair. That's not to say that at all. But there were some mental lapses. Does that give. Josh dobbs a possible edge on that bubble against dwayne haskins tony. We'll start with you. I mean he's been in the system off and on since what two thousand seventeen. It's going to be differences in this year with with a a new coordinator but it's not going to be totally different and as you said he's obviously Extremely intelligent and he's he's probably the best athlete in the quarterback quarterback in all marriages. Rpo quarterback nowadays they. Everybody has to be mobile. And and and in obviously also have a great arm so he certainly has to is accuracy might up to snuff quite yet. But they don't wanna guy that's the the crowds always gonna anytime they interception. They want the backup. Buddy and dobbs is that guy you know. He's he knows he's role in other words and that's one of the reasons why i think being respects him so much and You know haskins has a lot to prove. I mean i've been. I wrote an article about him but he is free nothing yet. he's you know. He's at dr shorts and sewing in a ball round and yeah a lot of guys look good doing that but can you do it in the pocket. Kenny handle the pressure Show the maturity to handle the pressure of expectations. Because he's going to start getting them with training camp choice. We had some success in the pre season. But bob yet no definitely not tape. Boys is somebody that i really respect. And i love this comment and i cannot get this up here. Haskins won't last on the practice squad. He's absolutely correct. You're not going to be. You will lose him if you put him on the practice squad it's It's too easy to pluck him off of their dobbs not so much. I really think at this point. Dobbs's somebody that there's more upside. And i just really love the athleticism and what you're gonna get in the number three position.
