"To the legal market as much as expected through the first six months of this year the state's collected maybe about a hundred and forty million in taxes that is well short of what the state was expecting and one of the pluses stable claim for buying legal is what you buy has been tested in a lab so you know what you're doing because a lot of stuff out there is not all it claims to be and joining us on the phone right now is sh what to call doctor Schwartz a call who's the chief scientific officer for analysis labs in Santa Ana and I'm trying to understand short that you're doing testing for the state or what exactly do you do I'm so the regulations you every product that hits the retail market on the legal side have to be certified as safe for human consumption and there are a whole battery of tests that we have to run so we have to make sure it free of pesticides of Solomon of heavy metals and we eventually you know check the label claim for the potency so there's a lot of information that we are supposed to certify on a certificate of analysis for every product that hit the retail market what are you finding so what's interesting is on the legal side we have been getting cleaner over the last year so when we first started testing about a year ago and legal market in twenty eighteen we would see about a twenty percent to twenty five percent failure rate that means all the product tested about twenty five percent would fail for pesticides or mold or you know wrong label claims things like that and we've seen that level dropped over the last year to under nine percent right now and so what that's telling us is that people are getting better about them of their practices you know once in power people with more information on you tell some of the cultivator the manufacturers that they're doing something wrong and just their practices and to try to do it better and so we've seen being legal market get progressively cleaner unfortunately what that means is that the illegal market is getting progressively thirty year because now you have this sort of bifurcation happening where dirty stuff if it's something that's rounded into the illegal market like fecal matter yeah unfortunately yeah I mean we test for you coli and salmonella in a bunch of microbial matter and yeah it's very possible that vehicle matter could easily be in this product and I mean you know when you hear about some of these cases in the news already you know I think your county had twenty one cases of severe lung disease it from having untested products okay hold on a second I am not in familiar enough with the supply chain logistics to understand where the fecal matter would come from in my legal marijuana well in the table out there in the illegal stuff I mean when they talk about the usually usually from ronin that's my fault I apologize for that are you back sorry yeah usually when they refer to fecal matter usually from you know animals and rodents and things like that that you know if you have the plan yeah exactly you know I find it interesting that it doesn't seem to matter in terms of transitioning the market for example there's in our store in the LA times today about how illegal farms are still you know doing a number on public lands my I have family that lives in southern humbled they're not transitioning are you surprised and maybe it's because look people legal legal producers have to pay for your service to test right so what kind of cost is that add to their inputs and is that may be one reason I mean really puts them at a disadvantage to the illegal market it really does but I mean so if you look at traditional industries like food and pharmaceuticals all this is folded into the cost of the goods and you know we've done some of our own estimates and were well under five percent of the cost of goods it's just that people aren't used to this I don't think it's the testing that the main barrier initially people have done studies on this and you know it testing going to the bottle neck that prevents people from moving over the legal side but what has emerges it's more to do with licensing and ability to get licenses and then also the lack of funding for enforcement on the illegal market and you know that's on the state it's interesting all right all right sh what to call thank you very much the chief scientific officer for can Alice's labs in Santa Ana B. where what you're smoking this is an interesting story of that I'm also working on next month for CNBC son of Barbara county has turned into the green rash of legal grow licenses legal gross that they're not non ball Santa Barbara county and you cannot have pesticide or fungicide residue on your cannabis to sell illegal in California it's got to be clean clean clean well next door your award winning wine grape vineyard can spray or the avocado grows in Carpinteria can spray and it's become a huge issue between farmers up there as is that spray can of walked over onto my cannabis plants and therefore I can't sell them which which side would you choose in the giant weed wine war well the one war on the legal side is more established the weeds the Santa Barbara weed is new and potentially wonderful but again the costs are so much on the legal side the train people are transitioning over to it Milwaukee's health "Wednesday morning, December twenty six. And today everybody's filling in for everybody. Except for me. Totally Malia will Jennifer too. No one's there. So today's Bryan suits in for Gary and Shannon. Jane wells in for John and Ken mo-, Kellyanne for Tim Conway, and that's the entire week tomorrow. I'm filling in for me. Once again. Also, we have a couple of fun Instagram posts are got off the airplane last night. And as the captain and crew were saying goodbye to us just by the door. I had to take a picture with me in them. So you have to that's a fun one that's up bad Bill Handel show, and then responding to an Email, which we do every once in a while got one in a few minutes ago, we received one, and I instantly responded, and that's at Bill Handel show. All right now switching gears to the twenty twenty democratic field. What ends up happening whenever a president is elected sworn in January twentieth. January twenty first the election starts for the next go round and already. Well, we're looking at the twenty twenty democratic field. We're not looking at the Republican field because there's actually one person that's going to be nominated. And it's going to be a candidate for the Republican candidacy for the president. That's going to be Donald Trump. That's a given that always happens. Now, the Democrats is a very different issue. So the the card has. Turned over with the print will prisoner. Obama, of course, running for president. There was nobody else. However, when you have an eight year presidency, it's wide open and a couple of things happen. There are brand new people that you've never heard of people. You have heard of there are the inheritors of the mantle one of them and the last one being Hillary Clinton, which cost the Democratic Party the presidency. And a lot of. Democratic seats went down the tubes because of Hillary Clinton, and of course, the win by Donald Trump more Hillary Clinton than anything else. So those are the three ways of billing about it, the inheritors you've got the people that have name recognition in this case you have Bernie. Yeah. Bernie Sanders is probably up there, certainly Joe Biden. And also you would have who else would be up there. Warren, Elizabeth Warren. Maybe the rest of them not so much. So here is what's going on? You've got about twenty people. And very few of actually said they're going out for it. I don't know venue actually declared, but strangely enough our own Senator Kamala Harris for some reason, she's visiting Iowa a whole bunch of times because you need a California Senator visit Iowa, right? Sherrod Brown from Ohio. As tweeted, well, he's thinking about it Senator Elizabeth Warren, of course, keeps on rolling out legislation all sudden, she's developed a sudden interest to foreign policy Joe Biden, making no intrigue that no secret of his continued interest in the White House Biden, of course, instant name recognition Bernie Sanders instant name recognition people you've never even heard of a former Maryland Representative John Delaney, the one actually declared candidate that no one has heard of see you've got senators if you governors couple business leaders even mayors one sanded a Senate candidate who lost. So what do they have in common? Well, first of all. It's wide open field that they have in common that there is no front runner. Second of all the unpopularity of Donald Trump. He is the most unpopular president at this stage than any other president in recent history. Incidentally, the second most unpopular president. At this stage was Barack Obama. So you've got the anti-drunk resistance movement. You've got Donald Trump himself. You have the fact that he lost the general election by a substantial margin. Probably the biggest in US history. If I get my numbers correctly. And so who's gonna make it? Well, you got a whole bunch of possibilities in some cases is someone who has the consensus of party insiders. Walter Mondale eighty four Bob Dole in ninety six. John McCain in two thousand eight there wasn't a breakout candidate. The last breakout candidate was President Trump before that it was President Obama. So there really aren't any good strong candidates. I don't think we're going to see what we saw when Barack Obama came out of nowhere Brock Obama was an outlier. He was unique. Was a brilliant campaigner is a brilliant campaigner had everything going for him. Had an economy that was in the toilet. And he was viewed as maybe someone can change that around the Republicans caused this was the last part of the Bush presidency. And the Republicans were while they're in power while the Sarah feller while this economy fell apart. Unlike President Trump who blames Obama for the economy, and he was the one and therefore President Trump save the economy from a disaster that he inherited from Barack Obama. None of that is true, by the way. None of that is true. Not a word of that is true. But where does truth matter in this day and age, so we'll see what happens? It's a couple of things that are happening. Everybody's racing to the left. That's for sure. I don't think you're seeing many moderates. And if you are seeing moderates, they're all racing to the left. Interestingly enough, Donald Trump talked about racing to the right? And he never has. The one and only place where he has raced to the right is in his selection of supreme court justices. He's two selections. And if he gets another one it will be a race to the right again. This is where the greatest influences president will have for a generation to come. This is a real legacy of a president. And that is nominating. And having confirmed. A supreme court Justice in his forties or fifties. Which is what happened for the last two go rounds Cavanaugh and Gorsuch, young men who are fundamentally very Republican, very conservative. There's your Donald Trump legacy. Everything else can be unravelled. Okay. Coming up a record number of people died by guns last year. And even though there is some gun control legislation in place doesn't seem to matter really doesn't. And I'm going to explore that coming up. All right. Jennifer Jones, Lee Europe. "That. I can't think of anyone here who could put it more clearly than you. I understand that Donald Trump doesn't hair Heilmann Mexican point. He doesn't care, but why doesn't Mike Pompeo care right now are the pathetic deflections that we just heard when he appeared on FOX and friends is that a patriot speaking or wannabe dictators. But boy, dead serious. I'm asking are. These the words of a patriot. Okay. I didn't cut out that audio. That was the. They were not watching television. They're preparing what's gonna come next? They're talking about you know, the the chargers and the chiefs. Not going to say somebody and the booth says. Does she saying? And it's too late. By the way. Imagine that came out of Rush Limbaugh, man. My gosh, Sean Hannity now she did say later on Twitter. Totally agree with you super bad choice of words. I should have said waterboy. Okay. What you know waterboy? Okay. Well, she could have said that she didn't. She didn't. I when I I read that. I thought she's trying to explain that. That's what she meant to say you waterboy out. But boy now, and she can we we keep saying that's clearly not the first time show Blake doesn't seem to be reacting. So I think we're okay. No. I think I use that phrase even in like talking to you know, that's what I'm that's so and so, but boy, oh, no. And decide on live television. I don't care how upset you are. It's inappropriate. And it's wrong. It's wrong. But she is. I mean. Okay. So we're done now. Yeah, we're done. Okay. All right. So she is going to host the Oscars. Is that I understand some woman is all right? "And after years of ribbing from different people who work here. I finally submitted in watched it on Saturday, partly because my wife for our anniversary last week. Got me tickets to go see love actually live at the Wallis Annenberg center for the first of all yes, does she think this was romantic ditch? Does she hate you and want a divorce? No. She likes the movie there are a couple of story lines in there, which I think are great. And there are a couple that I think could it could have been cut out from the movie and didn't need to exist. And by the way, it's a what I love about part of what I love about. It is that such a British take on romance and love and the American president dos in a hole and the guy who ends up going to America because he wants to have all the sex ends up like with that is funny kinda the dirtiest looking that the Brits believe that? What's her face share? In her. I I she played Harriet. She's comes back with him. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I know for American pie movie, and Denise Richards, like the women that they choose to be like the opinion of sexy women from the United States. I hated the movie I had never watched it either. But because you guys were yapping your traps about it. And I was home alone the other night because my husband was out of town, which because he would watch it no matter what it would be divorced material. I decided to watch it. And I realized why never watched it know fifteen years ago. I was busy raising kids. Sure. Working and all that. It was the most obvious commercial early written manipulative. What is the best way? We can get women into the theater this holiday and drag their, you know, men with them, and you guys a hail you actors. Hey, everybody, you're not gonna have to work that hard because you're only on screen for about ten minutes for the whole time. It's one of those the first of those collaborative let's all get rich with crappy movie things. And I just thought it was I love romances. I love like like to me. Jane Austen is the epitome. And and and Colin Firth will always be Darcy to me. And I love that stuff. And this did not tug at one heart streak because it was so blatantly over the top stupid commercial material. I just hated. Okay. But tell me what really made you. Did you really feel about this? So last night. And I'll agree with that. I I said the one storyline that I liked the best was was, Jamie. Jamie finds out that wife's cheating on him with his own brother. He goes out into the wilderness to to write a book and falls in love with the woman who barely speaks English working. That's why worked that was the one that I was like I really liked that story about tone deaf could be its own movie now in love actually live what they do is basically play clips from the movie, and then interspersed live musical performances, which the people who were singing last night were incredible incredible vocalists. All of the dudes looked exactly the same. So you had you had to pay very close attention to who they were singing for. I mean that that was the hardest part. They did they tried to match the the outfit that the guys were wearing on stage with the outfits that would appear in the movie Freeman was he was the guy. Newt no the Martin Freeman and Megan Shung Megan Chung at when Thomson mood of play John and Judy in that one they were just instrumentalists. So so John the Martin Freeman character would come out and play like a saxophone while Judy was playing the violin, and they were sort of vaguely in the same physical. I mean, if you know that these two people are the body doubles, there's vaguely in the same physical positioning perhaps, but they're playing musical instruments instead of having any sort of dialogue or singing. It's weird. But amazingly done the production on this thing. Just the coordination of the music, the timing of the music with the video clips and the live performances. I cannot wrap my head around. How many how much of the audience was women? Oh of a certain age. Probably fifty fifty really. Last night showing. I would say it was probably thirty percent women more men. Oh, yeah. How many of those men were there together? Many. I'll say that. But knowing that Shannon loves this movie so much I now look at her. I love her. I know look at her like she Steph curry. Who thinks there was no the moon landing was fake. I mean, I can't get my head around it when we come back swamp. Watch talk about everything that's going on in Washington DC, Gary and Shannon.
