"Those moments and thank you for those kind words. You know, the thing I remember is I believed 2017, there was a Billy's game, whereas drew Cabrera hit this walk off home run. I want to say it was two outs, the bottom of the 9th, and I just remember all of us in the BB ten Clubhouse and I remember you going crazy over that moment, none of us remember expecting it. And I just always think of that one. That wasn't just that. It was just a moment, but it sure how much of a family we were with baseball tonight. So do you remember that so much? I remember, well, I kind of remember that. I remember I drew a look kind of like carrying that team, right? And doing a great job. Just like you say, Sarah is a family. And I said it in 18 when we won the World Series. We were on that stage by third base in Dodger Stadium, October 28th, 2018, and Carl and Rossi and to share they were interviewing me. And at the end, I was like, you know, people like Sarah and bonds and everybody calling and buster and Carl, everybody that held me to become the person I was and the manager I am, you know, because of the experiences, not only the stats, right? But the two 30 a.m. shows, you know, that we have to do on Saturdays after college football, right? And you guys made me a great manager and I'm glad that I'm part of your family. Alex, thanks so much for dropping in. Pretty cool. Love you guys. Be well. Thank you. All right, Sara, you ready to play the numbers game? Oh my gosh. Yes. Thank you. All right, let's play the numbers game. Number three number three is 22. So the Padres won 22 fewer regular saving games than the Dodgers this year. And of course, now they're facing off in the division series. It's only one team have won a post in series with a regular season wins offset, but at least that many games. The 1906 White Sox who won 23 fewer regular saving games than the cubs who won a 116 and said that wins record. Now I'm not saying the Padres won't win them just saying that it would be quite historic if they did. Number two number two is 7. So we talked about Joe musgrove yesterday and I do want to bring him back a little bit. So we talked about first pitcher and posted in history 7 innings, one hit. The facing in a winner take all game. But he was also the 5th starter to go at least 7 ending this postseason. Shane Bieber, Shane mcclanahan, you Darvish and Luis Castillo also did it in that first round. There were four search of 7 or more endings all of last postseason. So we've already surpassed that. We're not even into the division series and on the mountain today. We have Justin Berliner who threw the last postseason complete game back in 2017. So I'm curious to see how much higher that number goes where 5 right now. Number one number one is two. So Gerrit Cole is facing the guardians today. He already has two ten strikeout games in his postseason career against Cleveland. One swift Houston and once with the Yankees. So those curious is that the most for a pitcher against this single opponent in the postseason. So two ten strikeout games against an opponent is tied for the second most for any pitcher against a single opponent. The only picture with more is Berlin or against the a's with four, but it could have another he would be second on that list. He also is to against the race. The funny thing is we'd be talking about this no matter who won that series. Yeah, so yesterday when I was doing sports center, Sarah, I thought I thought of a number that I know you would have absolutely loved. We were talking about the relative experience between the Mariners and the Astros, think about this when Justin Verlander made his first postseason appearance Julio Rodriguez was 5 years old. Joe and I've looked it up two days get 79 postseason games, 23 homers, Bregman's got 73 postseason games. This will be Verlander's 30, 30 parents in the postseason. I love the Mariner's story. They're fun, but man that is a mountain overcome. I mean, Jose is the second most postseason home runs all times. That they cumulative staff. I mean, no disrespect to you the obviously very good, but part of why he's there is because he is in the postseason so much SharePoint. So I agree, but you know what? I would love to see. And we will see how far that energy will bring them. Because, you know, this team is fearless. And I don't think they care that they haven't been in the situation. And we saw how loud it was in Toronto. They overcame a 7 run death at the end of the game, but certainly the numbers are not in their favor in terms of experience. All right, Sarah, thanks for doing this. And we will talk to you tomorrow. Thanks so much for having me and thanks so much for bringing. The man swinging a high fly ball out towards left field. The voice. That one will stop. The legend unexplained. On baseball tonight. And this place is boogie, know what I love. I've

"Of that's going to have to do with your, you know, like I said, your particular body or mechanics, how those things interact with one another, but, you know, it would be really interesting to see, you know, if we had even greater precision in that kind of injury tracking, like what insights we'd be able to glean not only in terms of what you ought to have done or might have been capable of doing absent that constraint, but also, you know, what is the real effect of this stuff? I think that we have a sense of some injuries, right? Like when you hear like, oh, he broke his hamate and he has to have surgery to remove it. Like you and I and the folks listening to this podcast like have a sense of it. It's like, okay, so there's the surgical recovery time. And then he's probably not going to hit for power in the same way he is normally capable of for a couple of months because we have seen this injury manifest enough to know that it can kind of stab you of power for a while, right? And we have that sense, but I'm sure that teams probably have a better idea of this than we do, but it would be interesting for public analysts to sort of be able to dig in on that stuff more. And there would be other limitations to historical data. Even if you opened a chest in somebody's attic and you're like, actually, I've complete injury physical injury records for the last hundred years. Amazing. We can't creepy if you had that in your attic, but maybe you haven't. You're like, wow, treasure trove, like there would be things that I imagine over time would start to be reported either more precisely based on the technology we have to diagnose those injuries, right? So we can be more precise than your leg fell off. That's how I imagined medicine being. I'm like 200 years ago. You're like, you're just falling off. Or stuff that there might be some stigma around that you're less inclined to report. So I think you're right that it would be really useful. It would also be invasive and weird, so there would have to be some of that, right? Like we'd have to navigate the ethics of that. But I would imagine that players today would be much more likely to report, here's the way that I'm struggling with my mental health, then players from. Gosh, even like 20 or 30 years ago, let alone a hundred. Austin Meadows right now. The tigers, yeah. Right, being able to say like, you know, this is impacting my performance on the field every bit as much as my physical health is and it's important for me to say that so that people know that they can say that. You know, I thought it was really admirable that he did that. So it would be, you know, there are definitely be gaps in what we could analyze and understand and again, we'd have to figure out like how do you ethically treat very personal medical data. This is always, I was talking to talking to my step mom about a player injury and I can't even remember what now and she's like, you know that about him, it might have been the janitor. She was like, she's like, how do you know that? I was like, oh, it was just a thing they told to be writers and she said. Everyone knew it. She's like, that's wild. Yep. So, you know, it does raise some questions too, but yeah, it would be it would be really interesting to be able to dig in on that and have a more precise sense of it. Yeah. All right, a few other pictures who've been performing well whom I just wanted to shout out here. I noticed that when I set the fang GRAS leaderboards from 2020 to 2022, minimum 250 innings pitched. The lowest whip of any major league pitcher over that span is one Clayton Kershaw. Wow. A .95 whip over that spin. We don't talk about whip all that often. But just about any stat that we could talk about, he would be close to the top of the leaderboard over that spin. I think if we chose, say, park adjusted fit, let's go with that. She is 6th over that spin and perhaps tied with Max Scherzer. It looks like it a little bit ahead of Shohei Ohtani, the pitcher. Yeah, it's Corbin burns Carlos rudan, Shane Bieber, Zach Wheeler, Kevin gausman, Clayton Kershaw, in park adjusted fib, I believe in park adjusted X of if we really want to get wild here. I think he is fourth behind Corbin burn Shane mcclanahan, Shane Bieber in Clayton Kershaw, which is just thinking of this because he had another fine start and I continue to think that as someone who just agonized over whether we passed the point of Pete Kershaw. I was just paying way too much attention to that because post prime Kershaw has been not nearly as durable, of course. Right. But man, when he's been on the mound, like he does it in a different way, obviously, and with a lot less speed than he used to. Pitch wise, but inning for eating, he remains. In quote unquote, decline. Just on the short list of the most effective pitchers in baseball. So sometimes with the Dodgers just because at times at least they seem to have such a wealth of starting pitching and you almost factor in and pencil in Clayton Kershaw to go on the iel a couple times a year and you just hope it's not going to be at a pivotal postseason time. It's like, oh, they'll be okay without Kershaw. And then you just see how good he is. When he pitches, like more than a hundred innings this year, 2.39 ERA, 2.49 5th, like he's fantastic. He's still so good. So this is not like a lion in winter sort of situation.

"Wish we did though. You know, it's a little background noise is always good for the pod. Yeah. We could have remixed it. Right, exactly. And applied it to like the White Sox of the Red Sox maybe, right? Wow. In the conversation coming up. All right, in Anaheim last night, Aaron judge did this. High fly ball. Deep right field. Ward back, turning, locking, see ya. Number 51. Aaron judge a three run home run and the Yankees lead 7 two. On their way to a victory, that was Michael K on the yes network. Yes, SportsCenter asked me about writing an Aaron judge piece in case he hits over 60 homers and I'm thinking Taylor, I better get on it. Like, I mean, the way he's moving right now, I better get writing. You're officially running out of time buster. You're gonna have to pull over to another rest stop as you're driving to Montana to hash that thing out there. Get on it. There we go. A lot of the news today is actually not good. The Astros placed Justin Verlander because of a calf issue on the 15 day injured list. And this was a troubling scene before the raised game last night. Shane mcclanahan, the all star left hander, was warming up the bullpen and he was scratched. He appeared to be very emotional in the bullpen and the cameras that were on him and he spoke of the borders after the game indicated that he feels like it just didn't feel right, doesn't think it's necessarily a major deal based on body language. It's a concern. And for the rays who had so many injuries this year and they have such a thin margin for error, this is a really big deal. They face the Marlin yesterday and the way the Marlins are going. That's almost a give me. Drives one to center field

"Notable at the time I think because the opposing pitcher in the game had zero strikeouts. This was not a high strikeout era. So doctor pond striking out 5 that was something and he had a one hitter going through 8 innings and then he fell prey to a pink sweater in the 9th inning. So I got to share this story. So just from one account here, pond pitch magnificent ball today, the Pittsburgh's being finally retired with butt for hits and another account says of the game that the champions experience but little difficulty in defeating the Pittsburgh's today, pitcher Huey was hit hard while pond had the pirates completely at his mercy. So pont was good, he was in the box for the champions until the 9th inning proved invincible, but a solitary hit having been made of him up to that time. Now here's what happened. According to this is from the Pittsburgh press June 4th, 1896. Headline, pink was effective, subhead his sweet crimson sweater, dazzle doctor pond, and it says, the visitors had a hard time trying to get some Ginger into their work against such pitching as they faced, backed as it was by almost faultless fielding on Tuesday, says the Baltimore sun, first, the attenuated and wild mannered Connie mcgillicuddy Mac, who manages our own as the smoky city routers called their ball team, dragged himself to the coaches box and tried to rattle doctor arleigh, so Connie Mack, who was not the old distinguished looking gentleman, we think of from his later managerial days, but was kind of a cunning guy who was not above trying to get an edge as people did at that time. So he was on the pirates back then, and it says that as doctor pond was pitching for Baltimore, Mac was saying he can't get him over, shouted our own manager as he danced up and down, dodging the chefs of wit from the bleachers that fell thick and fast, but pond persisted in getting them over with such regularity that finally mister Mack left the box in disgust. Then he sent pretty pink Holly to do the jolly ing and Holly was gently attired in the prettiest pink sweater that you ever saw. Pink also list prettily that original remark so seldom heard on the diamond, he can't get him over. So he picked up the same refrain that Mac had here. This stunning loveliness had its effect on the Oreo pitcher, and he was at once hit for two singles and gave a base on balls. So according to the Pittsburgh press, it all fell apart for doctor pond because of the sight of this intensely sweet crimson sweater. Perhaps a pink sweater that he just could not stomach for some reason. He met pond's cold cream. I wondered whether it was the same pond, but no, I don't think it was. He's like, no, I'm just imperialist. So much worse. Yeah, he had other things on his mind. Anyway, the pink sweater, Dan's great grandfather, Charlie's. It was not mentioned in his letter, but I found out about it anyway. And nice to know that Charlie order was one of the 3744 in attendance that day. It was a ten to three game, and it was played in two hours on the dot. Wow. All right, that will do it. A few follow-ups for you here. First, Joey menesis update in Tuesday's game. He went three for 5 with three doubles, one Soto hit lists as I record this, although Josh bell singled in each of them walked. This is just my favorite storyline of the season. Sorry San Diego fans. Also, we talked about the AL Cy Young field at the start of the episode. We noted that Justin Verlander's injury opened things up a bit. Well, after we recorded Shane mcclanahan of the rays was scratched from his start, he has a shoulder impingement, it's not known yet how serious it is, but he is a leading contender, of course. And on the opposite end of the starting pitcher effectiveness spectrum, I mentioned that stat about Dallas keuchel being the first pitcher ever to make starts for three teams within the same season and have a 7.5 or higher ERA for all of them, couldn't remember where I saw that stat. It was on the effectively wild Discord group where listener and user clo hinks posted it in our channel. He used stat heads to ascertain that. I was talking to frequent step less consultant Ryan Nelson about it to find another starter who had a super high ERA for three teams within the same season. You have to lower the bar to 5.89, and then you get Phil Negro. So that sort of goes along with what I was saying. You have to be really good to get that much rope toward the end of your career despite ineffectiveness. I guess Negro never actually won a Cy Young award, but he finished second and third and was a Hall of Famer, so 1987, his final season, yet a 5.89 ERA in 22 starts for Cleveland in 8.25 ERA in three starts for Toronto and a 15 ERA in one start for Atlanta. There's also Willis hudlin who in 1940 made starts for four teams and he had an ERA of 6.51 or higher for three of them, but then he started for a fourth team and had a mirror 4.94 ERA for the fourth one. And then there's Pyongyang Kim, who in 2007 went from the rockies to the morrowinds to the Diamondbacks and back to the Marlins again, made starts in all four of those stints. He had a 10.5 ERA with the rockies, a 23.63 ERA with the Marlins, a 23.63 ERA with the Diamondbacks, and then a 5.42 ERA with the Marlins, but that was across those two separate stints, so he had a 4.16 area in one stint, and an 8.21 ERA with the Marlins in the second one. Unsurprisingly, that was Kim's last year in the majors, and it was essentially Willis hudlin's last year's wealth that looks like he pitched in one more game a few years later. Also, an important update from our guest on our preceding episode Chris hanel, who talked to us about score bugs and about flames on baseball broadcast to indicate fast pitches. He did some subsequent research and video watching and he found out that the Fox national broadcasts, which were at 95 for years and years, and then went up to 99 in the playoffs last year. They're actually down to 97 now for flames this year during the regular season. That's the national Fox broadcast, 97. That's about where I would set it, I think. So kudos to them on breaking new ground when it comes to flames raising the flame threshold from 95 to 97.

" AP sports, I'm Bruce Morton. Major League Baseball has a new home run Derby champ. Mark Myers reports from Los Angeles. Juan Soto of the nationals defeated a field of 8 of the game's top sluggers to win the home run Derby. It feels great. Is another thing that I like you say to my trunk case and I'm going to have it there forever. Soto out homered Mariners rookie Julio Rodriguez in the finals. Soto also bashed the longest Homer of the competition, measured at 482 feet. Two time reigning champion Pete Alonso of the mets was eliminated in the semifinal round. As for Tuesday's All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium, hometown favorite Clayton Kershaw will be on the mound for the national league opposite Tampa Bay's Shane mcclanahan for the Americans. First pitch, just after 8 p.m. Eastern Time. Meanwhile, baseball's future may include some rules changes. Dave ferry has details. MLB is considering a pitch clock for next year with games running an average of three hours and two minutes this season. A clock experiment in the miners has cut average game time by 27 minutes to two hours, 37 minutes. MLB is also considering shift and pick off limits and larger bases with the possibility of robot umpires in 2024. Shifts have been limited all season at double and single a, where teams are required to have four players on the infield, including two on each side of second base. Outside of baseball, ESPN has announced stiff curry will host the 2022 espys. The Golden State Warriors guard says he hopes to channel two of his favorite comedians, Dave Chappelle, and Kevin Hart. Speaking of pro basketball, Philadelphia's James Harden has declined his $47.4 million player option telling the AP he did so to allow the sixers to pursue free agents. Hardin has yet to win a championship in his 13 year NBA career. First Morton AP sports.

I mean, there are very many guys in the national league that are having great years because we are here in Los Angeles, home of the Dodgers and you toss this around that I'm thinking Clayton's name just kept coming to the forefront to start this game. I think his reputation, what he's meant to the game of baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers. I think it's just perfect that he start this game for us in the national league. "He still having a fantastic season. That's pretty good, right? It was a Grand Slam, too, wasn't it? It was, yes. Yes. Yes, they became, I saw a Katie sharp tweet about this, but I believe the effectively well Discord group had it first. Yes, I think you're right. They were not credited, but I think that this was the first time in MLB history that two different players with the same first name hit grand slams in the same game. So that's something, I guess. But yeah, Aaron judge, he's still pretty much tearing the cover off the ball. So what I wonder, I mean, now that we're at roughly the halfway mark of the season, if we were to handicap the MVP race, which we don't do a lot of early prognostication about award wins, but I am kind of curious about this race in particular because I think judge got off to a really hot start and was the prohibitive favorite Otani has been coming on. José Ramírez is lurking. There are other players in the mix there, but I wonder basically how much ohtani would have to surpass judge by, let's say, in combined war to win this thing again, because we are in an era where voters pay pretty close attention to war, typically, but maybe there's a little bit of angels fatigue understandably. The angels have won a lot of MVPs without being a good baseball team, maybe there is interest in appetite for someone who is not an angel, especially because the angels are losing again, and are probably not going to make the playoffs at this point, they're not out of it, but they are certainly not on pace to make the playoffs currently. So is there a bit of a well ohtani just did this last year and yeah, it's still spectacular, but there's nothing like the first time and so maybe the field will be opened. Voter's minds will be open to someone else who is in the same war vicinity. I mean, if he finishes like a winter to ahead of anyone else, like he did last year, maybe that changes the conversation a little bit. And maybe he would have to do that in order to edge out someone like judge, assuming, of course, that judge roughly maintains his pace and has something close to a 60 Homer season. I just kind of wonder how good would Otani have to be, what do you have to be even better than last year if you just repeat slash or even comes up a little short compared to last year, will everyone still be as impressed and say, yeah, this is amazing. He's got to win the MVP no matter what or will it be another angel? Again, eh, maybe someone else this time. Oh. So I have conflicting thoughts about this. I think that on the one hand, it's hard for me to put myself in a position where I care about it being a bunch of angels, right? Like, I have a hard time thinking I care about that. I do think that the answer to my question does depend, this is going to be an obvious way of phrasing this. Like it does depend to the other really good baseball players will like to, of course, it does. I think that my baseline, my baseline assumption is this. If Otani is within sort of half a win of the combined AL leader board in any given year, I just think he's like the guy you have to give the award to. Not only because we know that the error bars on war such that he is, he is effectively leading the American League in more. Now, that means that Aaron judge is too, because there are only they have a .1 wins worth of separation and you're on is at 3.9 wins and Rafael Devers is at 4.1. So like they're all effectively the same guy, but I think that when you take into they're not the same guy in terms of the shape of their production being the same just to be very clear. Or the shape or the shape of them being the same. Although we do have a bunch of we do have a bunch of big strapping guys at the top of that leaderboard, don't we? What I mean to say is that I think that when you take into consideration the acknowledge sort of error bars on war as a concept and then you take into consideration what I feel comfortable saying is war not being able to as it is currently constituted fully capture the value of Otani because of how he is arriving at his at this moment as we record 4.2 wins. Like there might end up being fatigue with it being the same guy, but if he's doing this, he's just the AL MVP. I think he's just the AL MVP. Now, now, Aaron judge plays for the Yankees, he is having a superlative season in his own right and he has the potential home run chase element to his candidacy. So I don't know how voters would separate those things out. I think that the pull of a very good Yankee potentially meeting or exceeding a home run record in a walk here is going to be a super compelling narrative as it should be. And I think that the idea of an incredible two way player being completely superlative again also very compelling. So I guess that my answer is, I don't know how voters will come down on this, but I think that both of those cases have a lot to recommend them. And that the conversation around it might actually be fun. It might actually be fun, unlike most years where it makes me want to never go on the Internet again. So I'm very stoked on this because not as excited as I am about the futures game. But that's not true. That's not true at all. But this is great. It is super exciting when there is legitimate debate to be had about two guys who are doing something very special, but the shape of that specialness is distinct from each other. Like that is super fun. This gives us an opportunity to appreciate two dudes having just tremendous seasons. And I don't say two dudes to slight Raphael's Evers or Jordan Alvarez, but I think that if things kind of continue apace, despite the great years that those guys are having, this will end up probably being viewed as sort of a two man race. And you know, here I am once again discounting those here. Even though we tell people not to do that all the time, but here I am being like, I don't know, it's just a two guy race and José Ramírez is like, what? Okay, I forgot to mention Devers before and you forgot to mention Ramirez, but between the two of us. We've mentioned all the we've mentioned all the guys and can we just talk about how mitro is still being still very much in the neighborhood. He's like hanging out. He's like, what do I have to do? Get some respect around here. So I don't know that I have an answer. I think that there will be there will be people who sort of settle into their camps on either side of that in terms of which is more worthy, but I don't think that people saying, it should be Aaron drudgery. Making a silly argument. He's been spectacular. She's been really, really good at baseball. And people who are like, oh, yay, it's like, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I do wonder if it will help with tiny that yes, he's the same guy, but he's really two in one. And the balance of power between the two has shifted a little. Yes. Now by the end of the season, who knows his offensive status may look a lot like they did last year. He started slow. He's kind of come on at the plate, but the pitching has been much improved at least compared to his full season stats last year. And so that, I mean, he's a Cy Young candidate outside of the key race rate. I mean, I don't think he's been better than Shane mcclanahan or Kevin gossman to this point, but he is third in fan graphs picture war in the AL right now and top ten in the majors. I mean, he is in that conversation purely as a pitcher despite the 6 man rotation.

"Going to make sure to put shots on goal because, you know, like I said, at this point, no shots of bad shot throw something at the net and see what happens. Maybe you get a juicy rebound, maybe some traffic in front. Prevents Kemper from getting a good eye on the puck, but at this point, you've got to just fire the puck at net and be a little more aggressive offensively to match with the Colorado avalanche can do with their speed and skill because you're not going to be as fast as the neutral zone is Colorado. You're not going to have the skill attacking the neck, but at some point you got to try and equalize it, I think, on your home ice by being a little more physical, throwing pucks at met and trying to make this game a little ugly. So if that happens, I think we can get a game that is type three three at the end of regulation. Or is a four two game at the end of regulation with maybe an empty net gold added on to make it a 5 two game with someone pull, but I do think the most comfortable way regardless of who wins and I want to link Tampa Bay, but I'm admittedly scared because the way the avalanche of look, I'm just going to go over 6 goals at even money for tonight's game three. Again, puck drop is at 8 eastern 5 Pacific on ABC. Moving to the diamond, pretty decent day of baseball that we can look at here, some good pictures on the bump, the, I guess, highlight on the marquee would be a matchup and Tampa Bay between Garrett Cole and the Yankees, Shane mcclanahan and the rage. So don't know how crowded that game will be with actual Tampa Bay ray fans because of what's happening down the street on the ice so it may be a decided New York Yankee home field advantage despite this game being in Tampa because I'm sure there's a lot of Yankee fans who live down in southern Florida, whether they're retired or visiting down there. But the Yankees are a minus one 30 money line favorite with Garrett Cola bump against Shane mcclanahan. You have a minuscule total of 6 and a half in this game. I like to play it this way, Anita, mcclanahan, over 6 and a half K's. It's pretty juicy at minus one 57, but he's made 13 starts this year and he's had 7 or more K's and 12 of them, including both starts against the Yankees where he's had 7 strikeouts, one of those was last week. So McLean is the best breakout picture we have in baseball right now. He's got 35% K rate, the Yankees are a formidable lineup, but they can strike out soon and miss and mcclanahan's doing that better than anyone in baseball right now. So I'll keep riding that because mcclellan has hit that crop 12 out of 13 times. He's towed the rubber this season. Anything you like in that game or any other games that are worth mentioning on the diamond? So it's interesting because I'm on the opposite side here. No. I am. I'm gonna take mclanahan to go under 7 and a half strikeouts at around even money. So interesting. We can see that we'll see how this will see how this plays out. Maybe a bottle of wine in one of our futures. But a few plays here that I do like on tonight's slate and that's the tigers and the Red Sox. I like under 9 and a half runs. You've got two rookies that are battling it out and I think that's a big reason why this over under is it 9 and a half. You know, tigers have Frito going to going to the bump as we like to call. First round pick and he's been solid. Nothing tremendous, but pretty solid. I don't see him going more than 5 innings. And Detroit actually has the 7th best bullpen in Major League Baseball with a three two three ERA. They've only allowed 7 home runs. And for the Red Sox, as we know they play solid defense and both these teams, these unders have hit frequently for both the Red Sox and the Tiger. So I just think 9 and a half is a lot. So I'm going to take the under there. Also, there's two teams that I like on the run line tonight and the first is the angels. Mike Trout has just been a man possessed over the weekend, not sure how many people have been paying attention, but 5 home runs over the weekend. He's got 21 on the season. He's fantastic against left handed pitchers with a three 5 8 ERA. And he's going up against bubic, who is in four with an 8 three 6 ERA, opposing pitchers are averaging opposing batters or averaging three O two batting average against them. It's kind of like taking BP and Kansas City is allowed 69 home runs this season. So I just think the angels just annihilate Kansas City. So I'm going to take them on the run line and also I'm going to take the braves on the run line against San Francisco, the braves have won 5 straight, 7 straight at home, max freed. He's been dealing all season 7 and two with a two 9 zero ERA. He's three and O with a two O 5 ERA against San Francisco and Logan Webb is pitching for San Francisco on the road. He's four two 5 and Austin Riley, who I love, which by the way, I know we've got our bet digital show coming your way at 4 o'clock this afternoon. Might put a little money down on Austin Riley hitting another home run to day, Tyler. So I do like the braves on the run line as well. Those are my three favorite plays. All right, one more. I do want to mention is it's caught my attention is the White Sox at home against the Blue Jays. They're an underdog, a slight dog plus one O 5 on the money line with Lance Lynn on the bump against Jose barrios. I like Lance Lynn. I like the white sock as a dog. I would take them as a dog of a one way, I really like to try and extract some value from betting baseball is take the starting pitcher to earn the victory. So if Lance Lynn and the White Sox do win and land pitches long enough and well enough to earn that victory, it's plus two 15. So you get really nice return on your investment. Lance Lynn came off the IL and immediately threw 88 pitches. This guy's always been a workhorse. So he should be able to pitch at least into the 5th or 6th inning. The Blue Jays are a predominantly all right handed lineup and although they have some power obviously and some pop Lance Lynn is a guy who just uses basically a fastball to cut fastball to neutralize right handed hitters. It's lefties that give them some trouble. And there's really no lefties in Toronto's lineup. So I like Lynn. I think his strikeout prop is 5 and a half. I would go over that. I like him to earn the win at plus two 15. That's my favorite way to bet because again, I think he can hold this predominantly right hand and line up and check. And not worried about pitch count with him because he's an old horse that 2011 Rus will ride and we've already seen him throw 88 pitches in his first start off the IL 90 plus should be well within reason here as long as he's not getting roughed up. So I think maybe my favorite way to bet today in big league baseball and I might make that my best bet down daily wage a we shall see..

"I think this game comes back down to earth, slow pace, great defense, very competitive under two 14 and a half. Yeah, the Robert Williams vector was contributed to the last game as well. But I will say referees are letting him be physical in this series. And yes. Obviously the series getting later and later, I can not take the over, but I think the Robert Williams component was a variable. Three games in the association of WNBA, by the way. I like all favorites actually, and I'm not going to play it because I don't think I'm going two in one, and especially if two of them are on the road. So those dogs look dirty. So I want no part of them. I think we see convincing wins, but yeah, I don't know, maybe a money line partly would be fun. Who knows? Let's go hit the ice. Oh, I'm sorry. Nice call on the fever last night. Very nicely done Douglas. Anytime you can break out of cowbell on set in the life TV. The fever, the fever probably played that in their pregame and said, hey, the world counting on it. The gamblers on ESPN like us, so we can do mystics got there as well. My second half comeback to win by double digits. So we're strong out of the gates here. Let's go to the hockey. One game has my attention here. Stars flames, I just got to keep playing under 5 and a half. I do like the first period under one and a half as well. Look, anything can happen in hockey. We know that, but this has been a very defensive minded team Calgary's cranked up the D for sure. I agree with you on that. Another play in there would be Dallas under two and a half teen goals in this game. It's juiced at minus one 50. At home in the series, games three and four with Dallas was at home. The average 33 shots and two and a half goals per game. And the two games in Calgary, 19 shots, and one goal per game. So I'm gonna go under two and a half for Dallas. I also like the penguins plus one 15 over the rangers. It's okay to reassess this many games in the series four and say that the penguins have their number. The blue shirts got nothing. They got nothing here. Through four games, Pittsburgh is plus 34 in shots plus 6 in goals. They've taken 6 fewer penalty minutes. And when you look at the expected goals metric, Pittsburgh is expected gold metric is 64.4, which is number one for the entire playoffs. The rangers expected goals, 35.5, the lowest of any playoff team, this postseason. Pittsburgh is working the rangers in this series and we get them at plus money here. I'm gonna go ahead and play Pittsburgh plus one 15. All right, I like it. Fire away. And yes, I mean, dogs bark in the NHL over the last 5 postseasons. So can't fault you at all. You have a baseball play for the people before we let them go. Get excited. Cardinals Orioles get excited. Cardinals are all that. Double play here first 5 under four and a half runs and then the game under 8 runs. A lot of day games today, this is not a day game. This is a night game. So whenever you're listening to this, you should have an opportunity to make a play. Neither team hits right handed pitching all that well. All right, they're both about league average. So nothing there to worry about. But we got two righties pitching today. Spencer Watkins is going to go for Baltimore. He's been shockingly, somewhat consistent. Two earned runs. He's given up more than 200 runs one time in 5 starts. So he's been able to give you a handful of innings early in the game without getting shell. The cardinals are turning the miles Nicholas one by three ERA this year. He has surrendered just three earned runs over his last 25 innings pitched and we know the Orioles don't hit all that well, although they are winning more games this year than they have in the past. So double dipper, cardinals Orioles, first 5 under four and a half runs, and then under 8 runs for the full game. If you want another one, I'd also consider the angels in the first 5 over the raise. It's about minus one 25, ohtani's going. So you're paying me inflated price. The angels have been an absolute wagon. Wagon. They've won 6 of 7. They lead the division. They smash left handed pitching. They're going up against Shane mcclanahan tonight who's been good for Tampa Bay, but again, the angels crush righty pitching top 5 and almost every key category there. And in the first two games in this series, LA is beaten Tampa Bay 23 to three. I know that this should be a bounce back spot with a raise, but with Otani going, it's not gonna surprise me in the least at the angels come out and put up a big sweep. Not worried about a hangover celebrating the no hitter. That's the thing. I look at that, I did see the big celebration last night, but the way they're playing, there's a celebration every night for the angels. It's either a walk off, it's either an electric pitching performance, it doesn't stop with these guys. It's not going to surprise me in the least if they come out today and put up another good showing. It's time to start thinking about them from the futures perspective and how we want to approach them in the AL. All the talk is about the Yankees and the mets playing well, the Dodgers are a freight train. The angels are really, really good this year. They're showing it early in the season. They deserve a little bit more love, but because they haven't done anything for the last decade, they're flying underneath the radar. Joe, giving out the praise and love to the halos. Well done. All right, that's gonna do it for this edition of the daily wager podcast, just a reminder, our last conventional show is tonight, 6th eastern on ESPN2, tomorrow we have a special NFL schedule release for two hours on ESPN+ beginning at 8 p.m..

"Patino who they got for Blake Snell haven't seen him yet. Brendan McKay, remember him like the third overall pick lefty came up in 2019. He's not here. Obviously, Blake Snell is not here. He was traded to San Diego, but he was a part of the race. He was thinking about Tyler glass now. Injured, not playing. Brent, Honeywell, who destroyed us this year and was the number one pitching prospect in baseball like two years ago before all his arm surgeries. He's not here. They're doing it with mcclanahan, baz and drew Rasmussen. That's who's starting games one, two and three, and in the first of the three games, the raise just eviscerated the Boston Rhett made us look foolish like three days ago. So but it's not over, Chris sale pitches, Nathan of Audie pitches. The series could easily get more competitive. But the first game was a complete walkover. And yeah, it was rookie Shane mcclanahan and David Robertson and JP fire Ryzen two former Yankees at the end of the bullpen. The rage just picked up for shits and gigs. They're like, David Robertson's coming back from the Olympics. Great. Bring him in. JP fire Ryzen? Who was cut off the Yankees 40 man so they could protect Brooks kristy, I guess? Great. He's gonna go the final two innings. There are stadium as a joke. I hope they split time in Montreal, moving forward, but you can't deny that the players on the field really wanted that last night. And they were without like four quality arms. Like when you think of the raise, the arms you think of, they're not even there. They're not even pitching. Shane mcclanahan Shane baz and drew Rasmussen. If you didn't watch to raise game between August and now, you wouldn't know those people existed. And that's the one two three for a team that looked completely playoff ready. That's why people want to emulate the rays. Not because of their wage suppression. Because of their just the overload of pitching. And in case you didn't notice, Yankee fans are all we're excited. We're all high mighty that are minor league system was great this year. Like they want it every level, and that's wonderful. The raise made the playoffs or won the championship at every level of the minor leagues this year in 100 games in the major leagues. So Jesus Christ, the only negative thing you can say about the raise is that BJ Upton called them out for their arbitration practice last night during the game, which is really funny. And I hope he continues to do that. BJ Upton's cool. Quick quiz, you know, the BJ stands for and BJ Upton. Boss man junior. Boss man junior, not a real name. Bossman junior and that guy's awesome. So I hope he keeps putting the rays on blasts 'cause right now that's all I have. It's like, you know, sometimes you revel in your rival suffering..

"Ends October 10th back with Alex barth of 98 5 the sports hub and you can follow them on Twitter at real Alex barth, apparently doesn't know how to center himself on his camera as we're doing. Podcast. Are you with us? Yeah. Okay. You could move over to your right just to see, I get because there's this. I don't have like a perfect way to balance everything here. Way to prep for this podcast, I appreciate it, Alex. You come through for us all the time, you're awesome. All right, let's spend some time as we wrap it up on the Tampa Bay Rays and the things that the Red Sox is going to have to do. First of all, they're starting pitching is going to have to control the top 5 batters in their order which figure to be. Randy, rosarina, playing left field, wander Franco, the super sensation rookie that was brought up in mid season and he hasn't disappointed. He's their shortstop. DH Nelson Cruz, who has experience up the wazoo. This will not be in a bigger than life situation for him batting third. Batting fourth cleanup is third baseman yandy Diaz and batting 5th, second baseman likely to be batting 5th Brandon Lau with a lot of pop. He had three homers in a game I believe recently against the New York Yankees a blowout win as the Tampa Bay Rays clinched a hundred win season in the best record in the American League. That's one thing. And the other thing is their rotation. The Red Sox are going to face Shane mcclanahan in game number one. And he it seems like we say this every year, Alex barth, about Tampa Bay pictures. He had a breakout year as a young picture in the ray's rotation. He's a left hander he had a ten and 6 record this past year, 3.43 ERA. He starts game one a little more than a year after he became the first picture in MLB history to debut. Make his debut in the postseason. He posted a 3.01 ERA with 99 strikeouts over the last three months of the season. And, you know, he is a guy that is really, I think in a try and give Tampa Bay a boost right out of the gate. Yeah, I mean, I think they've got a bank on him because without glass now. And we talked about this a while ago, like, I thought Tampa was out of it without glass now, because I wasn't a huge fan of their pitching rotation now. Mcclanahan's come on and sometimes it's hard to project with rookies right and he's obviously been that guy. So he checks a box, but Ryan Yarborough struggled Michael walker's struggle. So if you can, if you're the Red Sox, and this is obviously easier said than done. If you can take a game started by mcclanahan, you really put the raisin corner. It's not impossible for the Red Sox to win it if they lose game one. But it kind of becomes tough for the race to win it, right? If they lose it because then they're pitching potentially against totally blown up. So mcclanahan is a pivotal player in this series. I don't have a splits in front of the Red Sox when it pulls up right now because I'm actually curious, but I think this first game is going to tell us a lot..

"I'll try and get that winter. I'll try and steal a win here and there. So maybe that's something for me for me to learn on and that's something the little cave that we're all on learn by picking game on game so heading back to offer the season we said route. Look any teams or pitches who've been our friends the season our biggest moneymakers so you can kick us off moon enough. Who who did you drop out someone. Who's being kind to you over the first few months this year i think this team in a couple of pitchers. I think that they have been good to all all three of us. All four of us for the season for the detroit tigers. We talk about cars. Screwball and casey mayes. Those are the two pictures at early on in the season of books. Were not obviously them. Being rookies season and and having their first taste of major league baseball They weren't getting price correctly and there was an odd much stats and things like that. Go off but guys like us where we were watching. You know looking at the box scores every night. And look at the stats. I think we caught onto it pretty early end early on in the season. Malcolm when we were making our pigs is that you know casey mizen tarps scrabble. Where guys that were really getting to the window. As far as dog picks tigers whereas the one team for me are. Leon i was. We were catching some pretty good dogs. I think there was a plus two hundred at times up. Plus one fifty. They're still hovering around that price. So i'm continuing continuing to back casey. My casey mayes and park scuba both for the detroit tigers. That was a one team for me that that was doing real well as a my biggest moneymakers. Yeah i think once a couple of guys get onto your rita. Rt's with so much baseball on so many games so many promotions and demotions and injuries. You can miss a coupla guys coming up with these players. Who would necessarily on the staunton. Rotation i'm when they broke competencies. The season were were very very quickly. Promoted in the world was going to be rookies out with the shadows and once they do come on retail. Then then you start noticing when we're looking through probably pitches looking for a pitch and macho. If you've noticed these guys last week then then your is told them this week and yeah scuba and if coming regularly at fairly fancy prices the rock to quite investing article on the sticky stuff because scuba in a couple of suv maybe the performances just dropped off the last couple of weeks but the conclusion was unrelated to the stick still incidents. It was just kind of coincidental but it wasn't the case when we talk about shane mcclanahan last moon and said we will. We will on his case early in the season expecting things for him the stick. You still have. Crackdown was absolutely hammered. Him he clearly was someone who was very relying on. It explains why he's dropped off a little way when we didn't really have many answers for that when we talked about last weekend nick teams players who vp. Now if you've been leaning towards so far this year. Yeah well..

"Major league baseball, as we, of course, get set for the Giants and snakes of it later this evening in the Arizona desert. That's and Yankees going to the eighth inning. It is 83, New York. Tom Smith three RB Brandon Nimmo, three hits for the Mets. That's her An interesting team Five games above 500 a slew of injuries. I mean big time injuries in the first half, and yet they have managed to not only stay afloat but remain in first place in what we expected to be a pretty good National League East. Um, I mentioned earlier. What a tough out. The Brewers are going to be in the postseason. Right with that Big three of Peralta and Woodruff and Corbyn Burns. How about the Mets? If if they get Noah Syndergaard back And you pair him with Jacob deGrom and the way Today's starter Taiwan. Walker's been throwing the ball Marcus Stroman as well, You know, Mets Mets become interesting. I know Sean in the other room. The Yankee fan doesn't want to hear it. But the Mets Very interesting as a postseason contender. From where I sit anyway. 83 that game in the Bronx at Yankee Stadium mid fifth. I believe in Toronto, or Excuse me in Buffalo. Raising jays are tied at one that is stripling former Dodger versus Shane McClanahan. Rain delay in Philly. As the Padres and fills way to get underway to nothing. After one in Detroit, the White Sox lead the Tigers. And Chicago, obviously one of the legit World Series contenders in the American League, No score, Cubs and Reds in Cincinnati, No score. Miami and Atlanta. No score Minnesota and Kansas City. So it's early. Just getting underway across the major league Baseball landscape will keep you posted on anything interesting along the way.
