"An acid jazz. Life which. Now. Russell westbrook. Didn't wanna talk about it. Did not want to have anything to do with it. For Russ, and I know a couple of days ago, he says I you know, I like to mix it up with crowd. Can we not understand that? There is a line. No matter what a guy says with the crowd. We're not get that. Yeah. There is always going to be some fun and give and take. And I remember when I was young. And there's always a story you go to a baseball game. There's a guy standing in right field. You try to get his attention. You try to I do it. I've done it a minor league games. I've done in a minor league games. Walla host right here. CBS sports radio. I love to do. I actually got a new with a pitching coach wants. You find out about you have a little bit of fun. You have a couple of pops were down to Myrtle Beach. They're playing the Lynchburg hill cats. Pitchers up. They're getting a little bit worked up. We're trying to we're trying to get in get the old bio on the Wikipedia. Don't get too personal leave the mothers out of it. Try to have some fun. So who's going to be done there? Who's catch in see if we can say something? I don't think Tom actually knows the story. I'll tell this all of a sudden the pitching coach comes out. I know his name. I'm not gonna say his name. He looks up to us like a little boy. Over goes. Hey, you you pop it off. I says no he goes. Yeah. You I think you were the one pop went off to shut up and watch the game for whatever reason it came over me. And again, I was a couple of drinks in. Hey, why don't you worry about your pitcher is about to get blown up and stop worrying about drunks in the stands? Sure came down. He said you didn't cost. I'm not gonna throw you out of here. It's an absolutely there's a line cursing the line, you can have fun. But you have to understand that there's a lot in for the rest of the game was quite you. Gotta be quiet had some fun. It's gotta be quiet ended up talking to the guy that kid who was playing right field end up. No one who that kid is. Hopefully, he's going to have a nice twenty nine thousand nine season in major league baseball now. You try to have some fun. But there's always going to be line in just because you haven't expensive seat doesn't give you a license to be a dumb ass dumb ass. And there's always going to be aligned where a player who doesn't know who you are. And he's the superstar is always going to be above. You just what it is. You came to watch in. You didn't come to watch you. And so for the Shane keys guy in the name needs to be said. Because of I know Russell Westbrook is and I can go after Russell Westbrook and say that he bothers me for this that and the other and be critical of him. It say that Durant. Got the best to him and say that Oklahoma City is worse off with him than they would have been with Kevin Durant as if that take needs anything. But if I'm going to say that and I'm gonna use Russell Westbrook's name. If this is a guy who was cursing and saying slurs at Russell Westbrook, which obviously according to his Twitter when he got milkshake duck. It would have to believe that. He did I'm gonna use his name. So for Shane keys, all the guy who got kicked out of the state or kicked out of the arena for the rest of his life. And I need to know his name. It's just a simple license of what's acceptable. And what's not especially now because we are more on edge society? Now, I will say it's been years since I had fun and Myrtle Beach. It's been years since I've had fun like that at a ballgame. Get Johnny Damon attention. Getting other guys. Attention the best you Manny Ramirez. David ortiz. Trying to get him to look up trying to get him to see something when you're up there in the stands trying to do that. It's been years. I'll admit that. And I think our society has changed. We're more on edge than we've ever been before rightfully so we're more nervous than we've ever been before rightfully so about our scenarios. And I think for a guy like Russell Westbrook. And for the fans, the situation has changed. And there's no wall and basketball a wall separates us from the field and football. Most of the time in soccer all the time in baseball. There's no wall that separates you in the NBA. So you're right there possibly in contact Ron tests taught us that he can certainly come up there and get you if he really wanted to lot other guys could. So what it comes down to now in two thousand nineteen is that while I was a goofball loudmouth myself back in the early twenty tens I can't necessarily afford to be that way. Now in two thousand nineteen also that the enjoyment of other people are also in my stance. Just because I spent a lot of money doesn't mean I can make an ass out of myself because I am also trying to take away from the enjoyment of the other people who spent a lot of money if Tom disagrees with me or Billy Jack disagrees with. Me you go right on the head. But what it comes down to now is in our society. If we're more nervous than we've ever been before. If we're more connected than we've ever been before were this guy who would have been a no name, and what it just got kicked out of the arena twenty years ago. And we never heard who he was we never would have talked about who he was now gets milkshake duct you find out. Exactly who he is. You find out the terrible things that he said Russell Westbrook in the past on social media, you find out where he lives you find out where he works. You. Find out all the background information. And you're going to find out the guy who got thrown out with them because he was saying other racially charged things at Russell Westbrook. We need to be more responsible. What it comes down to is this. I think booing is perfectly acceptable. Cheering is personally acceptable. I think that encouragement is acceptable. And that's about it. The NBA's going to protect the brand. There was a time where if you went to the opposing place they're taking care of their players. They're taking care of their fans. If you're one of the visitors you're just going to have to deal with it. You go into the garden. You're gonna have to deal with what the garden comes with you. At you. Go into the great western forum, you deal with those folks you're gonna have to deal with that Indiana could be a tough place to play back in the early nineties. You have to deal with that. Now, they're going to protect all their players. It's all about the brand. It's all about protecting themselves making look better because they want to make sure that it's an inviting place for fans at every single arena that they're all thirty. They have good fan-friendly atmospheres. And you're kicking lots like, Shane key. So out of the arena for life. It's the same thing that what the NFL will do once somebody gets hurt in the bills mafia the same thing with the NFL's trying to do because every single Monday, we see a video on busted coverage or we see a video on TMZ a some goofball getting in a fight in the men's room. The times are a changing sometimes it's fun to have the home field homecourt advantage home ice advantage. It's a fun thing to do that. But we have to compare selves a little bit better than what we have been in the past eight five five two one two four CBS. Jerry, palm, CBS sports. Just over a half hour up next five burning questions can carbon on CBS sports radio. So excited to be the big dance. Thessaloniki very exciting guy. Kyle is a proud partner of NCWA March madness title, what kind of dog will be doing the rumba samba..

"With Amy Lawrence. The NBA fine. Russell westbrook. Twenty five thousand dollars for his comments. Toward a Utah Jazz fan on Monday night in which he threatened as you can hear there on the video. He threatened to f- him up. He and his wife actually turned out to be the girlfriend of a jazz fan named Shane keys. All who was sitting three rows off the corner where Westbrook was standing when he was at the end of the thunder bench. Not the first time. He's had issues with jazz. But this time Utah steps in and decides they're going to take action. And I think this is smart because in the wake of Russell Westbrook telling his version of the story, which was certainly different than the fans version of the story you had multiple NBA players both from the thunder from the jazz as well. As the Ron James, we'll let you hear from him in a second. They're all standing up and saying this type of behavior is unacceptable, and what this fan said, which according to Westbrook was get on your knees. Like you used to cross the line? And so you have the outrage from the NBA community. It's smart for the jazz to react. And they did just that it's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS, sports radio keys, all the fan was one of a group of fans who received warning cards for violating the NBA code of conduct. But that's not where the jazz ended their investigation and back. They went ahead, and they interviewed I told you they were going to do this interviewed other fans who could provide eyewitness accounts. I also told you those fans would be more than happy to tattle on this guy. He was being obnoxious because number one that type of a comment if that's what he said, we knew that that would make other people just normal regular human beings trying to enjoy an NBA game. It would make them uncomfortable. And they would find it offensive. But we also knew that that members of the thunder bench were backing Westbrook. So Utah Jazz did their due diligence. They interviewed witnesses. They looked at video. They looked at social media both from this particular fan as well as from others who were in the area and they decided to permanently ban Shane Kiesel for life. So after this exchange with Russell Westbrook. He's been banned from the arena. And the jazz said in a statement there is no place in our game for personal attacks or disrespect again, the NBA fine Westbrook twenty five thousand dollars because he directed profanity and threatening language to a fan. But obviously the fan got what.

"Is just f-bomb and carrying on acting a fool down here. And everybody's getting on him. They had yet. I guess he thought it was ice. I just told him like your knees, bro, new tournament. He's like. Well, you're going to need it. And then it turned into not safe for work. Oh, man. That's some good trash talk. Right there. The stands. Yeah. Why don't you is your knees, bro? Something tells me that's not what he said. Here's what Russell Westbrook reports was said. Stands told me. Completely disrespectful. Racial things. Just inappropriate innocence. Okay. Get on your knees. Like you used to? I know there are a lot of people that when they hear that. Like, wait. What what exactly does that mean? All I can tell you is how rust took it Ross took it very much to be a slavery reference. There are others. I've heard who believe it is some sort of a, you know, sexual comment either way we're talking about something that is just out of bounds. Totally out about. Now, you listen to those to you tell me which one you think is telling the truth. And then let's add in Shane qisas Twitter. Of course, was something that wants everyone found out who he was everybody ran to a social media and Shane last year wrote on Twitter. To Russell Westbrook. Go back where you came from. So now, who do you believe let me add this information Shane spent a bunch of time after the game last night talking to reporters to tell everyone. I didn't do anything wrong. I think 'cause. I didn't say anything. I'm just sitting here. Minority-owned business and telling him to ISIS knees. Okay. As of about fifteen hours ago. Shane Kiesel the fan in question has deleted every single tweet that happened prior to about five o'clock this morning. Our time. Now, why would somebody do that? Because of course, I thought he had nothing to hide. I don't. I don't think he did anything wrong. He said. Why would you need to delete every single thing that you've ever said on Twitter? There are only two things on Shane keys holes. Bio info on Twitter. Hashtag Utah Jazz. Hashtag maga. So do without whatever you want the jazz part might go away now because he's not allowed to go. See a game anymore. I can tell you what side of this story is believable. There's only one side. That's believable. So. Where do we go from here? The NBA in my opinion nailed this. They continue to handle their players and social issues better than any other league out there. They did find Russell Westbrook twenty five thousand dollars. It's a relative slap on the wrist. I think that's their way of saying please don't threaten fans, and especially don't threaten women especially women who actually were just sitting there not doing anything so Russ scout overly emotional and therefore inappropriate. And so, that's understandable. But twenty five thousand dollars is just a slap on the wrist. What happened to shame Kiesel he's banned for life, and that should tell you for anyone who's out there going well to he said, he said, we don't know what was actually said. My bet is the jazz do from security footage from microphones that are covering the court and a guy who was pretty close to the court. My bet is somewhere inside the security office with the Utah Jazz. They know what was said. So then you can look at how they acted and decide who's telling the truth. Kiesel is banned for life. Russell Westbrook is fined twenty five thousand dollars. I don't understand. Why even go to a game? If this is your goal. Why why do certain people who would never act a certain way, suddenly when they get inside an NBA arena. It's like, oh, well now all the rules are gone. It's like a lot of guys who go to a strip club. Oh, well now inside this building. So the rules the rules are out the window. So now, we can just do whatever we want. I don't get it. Just go to the basketball game. And have a good time. Seriously. Okay. Rat Lewis with the NFL networks going to jump in here next. Anyway, can't be Mark it on the sports leader..

"The NBA. Jan okay. So that was Shane qisas version of what happens, and we can all agree. And Russell was one hundred percent wrong in bringing the woman in that. We're all in agreement there. We are one hundred percent agreement that Russell was dead wrong there. However, Shane just sounds like a down to earth happy. Go lucky guy. Right. And I'm talking with Russell Westbrook. One of the greats. Well, then you as people do they tend to find. Okay. Well, who is this guy that's going at Russell Westbrook. And if you go back, you can find people that have found some tweets from chain qisas account, which by the way has since been deleted that have said some less than not so nice things about Russell Westbrook, including several that we saw that did seem to have a racial tinge to that. Yeah. There were there were problematic tweets in here. And that's why you're account ends up deleted in a lot of these. We always hear that thing. Trae there's three sides to every story your side my side and the truth. Yup. We've heard Russell Westbrook's portion of this conversation. We didn't hear the portion of the conversation involving Shane Keyser. So what are we led to believe? We're led to believe. All right. Russell Westbrook is telling us he was provoked by something. This guy said and then Shane Kiesel is trying to mitigate that. If I'm looking at this from the outside right now with the information, we have about these two guys nothing about what we've seen from these tweets from Shane keys or anything else lead me to be overly inclined to believe his side of the story. If we found audio tomorrow, and it really is what he says, we're it's things that you know, Russ misheard or something like that. And this turned out it'd be an overreaction by Russ. I'd be the first to admit it correct thought what the information we have right now. And being able to look at the receipts from guy that we didn't know because Russell Westbrook is a public figure. We know him. We know the altercations he's been a part of in the past. We know what he says. And what he's about for the most part. We don't know this guy and what I do. And what I've seen now about this guy makes me a lot less inclined to. Take his word on anything surrounding this situation. When we don't have the receipts of what he said when he's trying to color this how he wants. So with the information we have now, I'm not inclined to believe what he's telling me about this situation. Look, let's be honest. There's a lot of noise going on. Russell may have heard something from somebody else that maybe didn't come for this guy. Or maybe he heard something that he thought he heard, but he didn't hear correctly. And nobody knows right. We don't know there's all kinds in these situations. It's very noisy. It's very loud things. Get ramped up pretty easily. But I mean, the reason there's a reason that account got deleted. Let's be honest about that. Because there are some stuff going back. Six seven months where he is not using the nicest words to talk about Russell Westbrook specifically. So when I hear him say, I'm talking to Russell Westbrook, one of the greats. You made it pretty clear on your Twitter feed that you didn't have those kind of feelings for Russell Westbrook. And we see this all the time with guys this idea that you are supposed to listen when I was a player, you have insult hurled that you from the stands, and the one thing you always hear. And I've heard my dad talk about this in the show, plenty of times before is you don't respond because a it usually. He gets more of it. Correct. And be you know, you give credence to what they're saying in some small way by showing them. It bothered you. But there's another part of a man everyone's gotta line. Yup. Everyone's gotta line. And we found that Russell Westbrook's line is a little quicker than most. He's not content to just turn the other teak. And the thing that would bother me most about that sound bite from Shane was that idea. Well, he's got to be a professional. We've got these settings all the time where you've got people hurling insults at these guys on the corner. Let's go above and beyond. But then you're asking and saying, oh, no you be the professional in this situation. Man. I thought we were all customers and pros here. I thought we all had to abide by those rules, but it usually tends to be very one sided in a way, I can't really get down with a couple of other things in this story that statement released by the jazz saying we are continuing to investigate the unfortunate exchange. Multiple warning cards were issued by area security players and fans have a shared responsibility to create a safe and respectful environment. And our T tweets of these pictures, they give them warning carts. Hey, be careful what you say here and. You can color this any way you want to look at it. But Raymond Felton a teammate of of Russell said he heard it. And he backed Russell side of the story. I get it. Sometimes some words are wrong. Some things you say a wrong. I'm not taking that away. I'm not saying that all I'm saying is when is it going to be about protecting us as players? That's just not right for us to have to deal with that when they said something to him first. And they said something totally disrespectful. I heard it. I'm standing right there. I heard that's not right. That's all I'm saying. That's not right. So I think there's some people that felt like that fan didn't say some things that were correct. And Russell clearly said some things that weren't correct. When he said that about I'll come after you, and your wife that is that is something that cannot be said, and you know, it's always gonna come down to and a lot of the response. We see is boo harass. And all this stuff is. Yeah, he makes a lot of money. So he should put up with this generally tends to be the thought process from a lot of people though. And it's not true. But that's the way we operate with so many of these guys. Well, you're making all this money. So you can handle a little bit extra. Exactly. So we'll see how this plays out the league. League is still investigating at the jazz are investigating and has doors said with us earlier there's going to be a fine for Russell Westbrook going forward. Because of what happened coming up and L free agency and NFL free agency is spinning out of control, but who's going to get that closing bell. We'll get to that. After this word from Bombay.

"We are going to shift to NFL. Time to tamper free agency is nearly upon us. But we'll work in these calls. I will take more of them. We still have another half of the show to go. But I do wanna hit some of the top NFL story lines before we get back to Westbrook versus Shane keys. All my money's on Westbrook. But it didn't actually get that far DJ is in Fairfax Virginia. Welcome to after hours. Good morning, Amy. I love the show much respect to you. Thank you. Okay. Person. Foremost. I wanna say this. Fans are not allowed to cross lines. When it comes to racial things. You're throwing things things of that nature. But here's the the raw sure of what those comments and. Wow. What Russell Westbrook. Reacted the way. He did. I don't know if you know this. But you you may want to keep this ratification. Now when slaves were bought suit brought here against slave males were actually or perform these. Home of these homo X on their slave owners. And if they didn't perform these acts on each other. Or the slave owners. They were castrated, okay. Sorry. You got to turn down your radio because I'm hearing me while I'm hearing you and your we're on a thirty second delay. No problem. So these these enslaves males were actually castrate you said that okay? Keep going. So that's the the the the raw truth of of how deep these comets touch Westbrook. So in your opinion, in your opinion that phrase was referring to something that slaves would have to do. And so it was very much racist. Yeah. Was okay. Overreaction from him. You know, a lot of people may look at this. As a as a double edged sword with Westbrook. Getting be. Delivering the the worst of the blow beg to differ. All right. In your opinion. Then was he justified in reacting the way that he did. Absolutely. And if people know what what what the fan was referring to. They would agree. How Westbrook reacted, you know? I would agree in in in most cases. Yes. That would be considered extremely offensive. He obviously took offense to it. My my issue, though, is are you leaving that up to then arena? Officials to understand the context if that that's what was said and to pull a fan or objective fan who says something like that. And again, I'll use some of the examples that have gotten people into trouble recently the cotton picking comment from the former Oklahoma City announcer, the Lynch mob reference with with Tiger Woods at a golf tournament. Not that long ago. Are you comfortable with leading Rena officials to determine which of those are offensive and because of that which fans should be removed. Yes. I think I think should should educate themselves in that moment. They may not know this. So may some may not know if they do. No, they should definitely be reprimanded the fan. I'm speaking on. And they shouldn't be allowed back in that been you at all. Yeah. I would agree. If it's something that they can pinpoint definitely there are cell phone cameras around there. More than likely our fans who are willing to tattle so to speak. So wouldn't bother me at all if that fan ends up getting singled out cops to it to me that crosses the line as well. Here's something else that I think is interesting and we've seen this in golf tournaments before when I know it's a different type of venue. But when Rory mcilroy or a Jordan speed feel like they're being heckled by a fan who has crossed the line and has made it personal. They can actually go to the PGA officials the tournament officials and say I want that fan removed, and in most cases, there are no questions asked that fan is in fact removed at his asked to leave the premises. So it's a little different in golf because they're right on top of you. But in this kind of situation I would be opposed to the players saying to the it's not really the NBA officials. It would be at arena official saying to someone on his staff you've got to get that fan out of here. Because what he said is crossed the line. I mean Westbrook chose to respond himself. But I I don't think that that's should be beyond the scope. Of what he's players are allowed to do ask for a fan to be removed. The NBA in a other sports leagues should should take implement those rules and regulations. All right. You know, I do appreciate your phone call. Thank you. I'm sorry. Just hearing myself in the background is disconcerting. But thank you so much for your call. Cole is listening in Atlanta, coal, welcome to after hours CBS sports radio. Amy. How you doing? I'm ken. Thanks. Thanks for taking my call. And also, thanks for reading much tweet earlier. That was awesome. Boom. Yes, I'm the one anyways. You're you're not alone in saying that I read your tweet. But there are plenty of other people who feel the same way. Well, me personally, I think I think Westbrook is just being a great big crybaby. And he's blowing this thing out of proportion. I didn't watch the game. I I'm at work right now. I drive for a living. So but. I think they're they're both at fault. And I don't think there's any way for them to through that anything was said. Oh, no. I disagree with that cold there. We're going to be fans around this guy who are more than willing to tell arena fficials that they investigate the Utah, Jazz investigate. There will be people around there are more than willing to tattle. And to say, I heard it. I heard it. I heard it. Well, if that's the case, then that fans should be barred from entering, you know, NBA any NBA event, you know, and should be blacklisted, but you know, arrest Burke shouldn't have even interacted with with the fan. The quickest way to de-escalate something is just. Ignore it. He's in the public eye and therefore. Anyone it don't matter? If you're a musician, a politician, it doesn't matter if you're in the public eye, you are you are subjected to these types of things all the time. And you've just got to learn to ignore them. I and you know, there comes a time to wear. Yeah. Something is going through bother you and possibly offend you. But come on man grows thicker skin. To the athlete then to to respond the way that most human beings would not. Yeah. Absolutely. Okay. I I think we'll get a fine. If it were up to me, and I heard him saying that he was going to beat the crap out of a fan. I would find him. And I would suspend them for three games. He's likely not to spend it. There's no way the NBA does that especially if they can prove that this fan was saying things that were highly inappropriate. I do appreciate that coal because I think again, a lot of people feel the same way that because you're an athlete you represent the NBA. You should be able to take it so to speak. This is what you have coming. I let you go because we're at the top of the hour, but thanks for calling from Atlanta. And thank you so much for your tweets real quick Dave increase, you've got about thirty seconds. So go ahead. I know that you're very concise with your comments. I've been to many sporting events before. I mean, I I have the right to boost somebody, but I would never be disrespectful and that is open for interpretation. So it is very very hard. But long as you're not using vulgar language, and you're not threatening anyone in in any way or being abusive, physically or verbally. Then that I think it's okay. Booing? "We are going to shift to N F L N. How time to tamper free agency is nearly upon us. But we'll work in these calls. I will take more of them. We still have another half of the show to go. But I do wanna hit some top NFL story lines before we get back to Westbrook versus Shane keys. All my money's on Westbrook. But it didn't actually get that far DJ is in Fairfax Virginia. Welcome to after hours. Good morning, Amy. I love the show much respect to you. Thank you. Okay. First and foremost, I wanna say this. Fans are not allowed to cross lines. When it comes to racial things are throwing things, you know, things of that nature. But here's the the raw true of what those comments and. Wow. What Russell Westbrook. You know, reacted the way he did. I don't know if you know this, but you may want to keep this registration. Now when slaves were bought brought here, the in slave males were actually worse. I perform these. Home of these homo X on their slave owners. And if they didn't perform these acts on each other. Or their slave owners. They were castrated. Okay. Sir. You have got to turn down your radio. I'm hearing me while I'm hearing you and we're on a thirty second delay. No problem. So these enslaves males were actually castrated in. And I know you said that okay? Keep going so. That's the the the the raw truth of how deep these comets touch Westbrook. So in your opinion, in your opinion that phrase was referring to something that slaves would have to do. And so it was very much racist. Okay. Overreaction from him. You know, a lot of people may look at this. As a double edged sword Westbrook. Getting the. Delivering the worst of the blow to differ. All right. In your opinion. Then was he justified in reacting the way that he did. Absolutely. And if people know what was the fan was referring to they would agree. How Westbrook reactive, you know? I would agree in in in most cases. Yes. That would be considered extremely offensive. He obviously took offense to it. My my issue, though, is are you leaving that up to then arena? Officials to understand the context if that's what was said and to pull a fan or objective fan who says something like that. And again, I'll use some of the examples that have gotten people into trouble recently the cotton picking comment from the former Oklahoma City announcer, the Lynch mob reference with with Tiger Woods at at a golf tournament. Not that long ago. Are you comfortable with leading arena officials to determine which of those are offensive and because of that which fans should be removed. Yes. I think I think ruptured should educate themselves in that moment. They may not know this. So may some may not know. They do. No. They should definitely be reprimanded the fan. I'm speaking on. And they shouldn't be allowed back in that has been used at all. Yeah. I would agree. If it's something that they can pinpoint definitely there are cell phone cameras around there. More than likely fans who are willing to tattle so to speak. So wouldn't bother me at all if that fan ends up getting singled out cops to it. To me that crosses the line as well. Here's something else that I think is interesting and we've seen this golf tournaments before when I know it's a different type of venue. But when Rory mcilroy or a Jordan speed feel like they're being heckled by fan who has crossed the line and has made it personal. They can actually go to the PGA officials the tournament officials and say I want that fan removed, and in most cases, there are no questions asked that fan is in fact, removed and is asked to leave the premises. So it's a little different in golf because they're right on top of you. But in this kind of situation, I wouldn't be opposed to the player saying to the it's not really the NBA officials. It would be an arena official saying to someone on his staff you've got to get that fan out of here. Because what he said is crossed the line. I mean Westbrook chose to respond himself. But I I don't think that that's should be beyond the scope of what these players are allowed to do ask for a fan to be removed. But. The NBA in a other sports league should should take implement those type of rules and regulations. All right. You know, I do appreciate your phone call. Thank you. I'm sorry. Just hearing myself in the background is disconcerting. But thank you so much for your call. Cole is listening in Atlanta, coal, welcome to after hours CBS sports radio. Hey, Amy, how you doing? I'm ken. Thanks. Thanks for taking my call. And also, thanks for reading my tweet earlier. That was awesome. Boom. Yes, I'm the one anyways. I didn't call and you're you're not alone in saying that I read your tweet. But there are plenty of other people who feel the same way. Well, me personally, I think I think Westbrook is just being a great big crybaby. And he's blowing this thing out of proportion. I did watch the game. I I'm I'm at work right now drive for a living. So, but I think they're they're both at fault. And I don't think there's any way for them to prove that anything was said. Oh, no, no. I don't I disagree with that cold. There are going to be fans around this guy who are more than willing to tell arena officials that they investigate the Utah, Jazz investigate. There will be people around there are more than willing to tattle and to say IRA it. I heard it. I heard it. Well, if that's the case, then that fans should be barred from entering, you know, NBA any NBA event, you know, and she be blacklisted, but you know, respite shouldn't have even interacted with with the fan. The quickest way to de-escalate something. Is to just. Ignore it us in the public eye, and therefore anyone it don't matter. If you're in. I musician a politician. It doesn't matter if you're in the public eye you are subjected to these types of things all the time. And you've just got to learn to ignore them. I don't and you know, there comes a time to wear. Yeah. Something is going to bother you. And. Offend you. But come on man, grow thicker skin. Up to the athlete then to to respond the way that most human beings would not. Yep. Absolutely. Okay. I I think that Westbrook. We'll get a fine. If it were up to me, and I heard him saying that he was going to beat the crap out of a fan. I would find him. And I would suspend them for three games while he's likely not spend it, there's no way the NBA does that especially if they can prove that this fan was saying things that were highly inappropriate. I do appreciate that coal because I think again, a lot of people feel the same way that because you're an athlete you represent the NBA. You should be able to take it so to speak. This is what you have coming to let you go because we're at the top of the hour, but thanks for calling from Atlanta. And thank you so much for your tweets real quick, Dave. And Chris you've got about thirty seconds. So go ahead. I know that you're very concise with your comments. I mean, I've been to many sporting events before. I mean, I have the right to boost somebody, but I would never be disrespectful. And that that is is open for interpretation. So it is very very hard. But long as you're not using vulgar language, and you're not threatening anyone in in any way or being abusive physically verbally than that. I think it's okay. Booing? Yeah, he's a completely different thing. But I will quote Justice Stewart, I may not know the definition. But I know when I see it. And what about when you hear it, exactly? When the fans go over the line. You know when you hear it? I'm not a big fan of the personal attacks. "Taking place day after day after day. We're seeing the bracket fill out with the automatic bids culminating Sunday with not just the selection show. But also with our big show. We'll talk to players coaches. We'll get your take. We'll Jerry palm here in studio who is our CBS sports back Atallah gist, generally, he gets sixty seven out of sixty eight teams, right? In fact, sixty seven and a half is probably as average and now and then might miss a feed. And so we'll talk to him and we'll have brackets to fill out. We've got the after hours bracket challenge to be renewed yet again in two thousand nineteen this will be the first time for Kristen Dave, by the way, it's required to fill out a bracket here. So I don't know if you guys are big bracket. Peeps. All right. They're both nodding at me. My mom just this is my mom, by the way, who sent me a text on Monday to ask me if I had registered for the family bracket. Okay. Mom. I'll get right to that. Thank you. My mom who couldn't tell you. When election Sunday is she probably was he doesn't even know what selection Sunday is actually after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio. Thanks so much for tuning in. We're going to get right back to your comments on both Twitter and Facebook in light of Russell Westbrook getting into a verbal altercation with fans fans specifically one fan and his wife who is singled out during Monday's game in Utah. He threatened to do harm to f- up this man, and his wife, and he claims that there was a phrase that was used that he felt was racist and disrespectful, and because of that he felt justified in losing his cool. And so we're asking you just generally not about Russell Westbrook. But generally, what is the line for fans if you purchased a ticket does that give you the right to heckle at at? What point does your heckling become vulgar, obscene? Inappropriate and grounds for ejection. Or is there? No line as long as you're not touching it athlete. Throwing something at an athlete. Should you be able to say whatever you want? You can find me on Twitter a law radio and also on our Facebook page after hours with Amy Lawrence at our phone number. We'll get back to your calls here. Eight five five two one two four two two seven that's eight five five two one two four CBS. We'll let you know about the latest automatic bids to the NC double A tournament. And Hello NFL free agency. I call this time to tamper. I kind of liked the hashtag time to tamper the lions had a big day. The Redskins go for broke the Broncos address more needs this John Jackson goes back to where he came from. Oakland is not done doesn't finish with Antonio Brown. Terrell. Suggs leaves the team that I will forever identify him with and moves cross country. And of course, Nick foles, Nick foles is the big story quarterback carousel will stop for him in Jacksonville. Most guaranteed money ever given out by the Jaguars. And so we'll talk about NFL free agency and this time to taper as well. Again, a law radio or after hours with Amy Lawrence on Facebook. Alan is listening in Maryland. Alan welcome to after hours. Hey, Al we can't hear you very well. So either you're muffled or your phones in a bad spot. You wanna try again? Longtown? Okay. Go ahead. Okay. You got it almost right? Almost. The main war. His times. M. This game. Now. Who? Blah. Maybe the fan meaning the fans set him up. Yeah. Oh. Bye. How's it doing? Russell Jackie Robinson. Okay. I mean, I agree with you that he definitely got what he wanted the fan which was to try to get under Westbrook skin. But Westbrook didn't hit anyone. He never left the court. He was on the corner by the bench. He was talking. He was saying medicine words, but he never did follow up on those on those threats. And so if the fan is within his right to say, whatever he wants as some of you are saying to me on social media will then isn't Westbrook within his right to say, whatever he wants. I don't know. What's good for the goose is that good for the gander? Thank you Allen. I appreciate your phone. Call in Maryland. Let's talk to Mojo's in Detroit. Mo- welcome to after hours. Amy. How are you? I'm good. Thank you. All right. So okay. Look, I put it this way. What's out line for myself? I feel heckle. I could talk about their trash. I can even call them ugly. Okay. I feel that. Any word that I cannot use on your show right now. I shouldn't use in the course, especially because there might be kids are out, whatever, right. Right. The threat the player. That's I don't mind. I feel honestly the whole what the fence now. Westbrook. The same should apply to them as well. You can't threaten a guy and his wife. Is she did you can't do that? And he said his first altercation thumbed this before you do that. Okay. So you're saying he crossed the line as for the fan. According to Russell Westbrook. He didn't actually say any words that I wouldn't use on my radio show. He according to Russell Westbrook. Shane keys all this jazz fan told him to get down on his knees like us to which for Westbrook. He decided was racist. And certainly is disrespectful. Whether or not it was racist. I mean to say that to a man is to say to a woman is gross to say to a man is very often considered treating him. Like, well, you know, anyway. So those words I can say on the air. So you're telling me because they were words that you can say on my radio show. It means that that fan was well within his rights. They never had the ten. Okay. Now, if you should get on, your knees that was homophobic. Not necessarily racist, homophobic, just as bad just disrespectful, and yes, he should be God. Because you're that's. I think Russell is trying to put it there as an as a being racist because he doesn't want the players are too much to say that something homophobic the trunk. It's just it's stupid. But yeah, that's that's what went down there. If that. I don't know. I take what Russell Westbrook says with a grain of salt because he's reacted. Redacted in a in a rational way, there's not as first time. He's. I've seen I've seen them. Like, no, I Gotcha. But you know, what here's it in every single arena. Mo- like, I get what you're saying. He hears it in every single arena. No doubt. I'm so the fact that he reacted one time or two times on the scope of of how often he hears it. How often these players here it? The fact that he's one of the most recognizable and aggressive players in the NBA. Generally means he opens himself up to that by the way, he plays. And because he's really good because very often he tortures the other team. So I understand what you're saying. He's an aggressive bold, brash personality, and he doesn't back down from anyone. That's how he is on the court. I thought we as off the court. He felt like he was protecting his family. I don't know. What else the fan said? That's just what Russ said after the game set him off there. Very well could have been other things that were said. I you're kinda letting them off the hook. Maybe because I don't think there's any difference. Why is the fan allowed to say, whatever it is that he said, and let's be honest, even if he didn't say the F word, even if he didn't say, a racial, slur, a, homophobic, slur. Why is he allowed to say whatever you want a Russell, Westbrook's not don't have a double standard. I mean, I get that. You would like your your athletes have a thicker skin, never to respond. But, but if you're going to allow the athlete are viewed allow the the faint, say, whatever he wants, why can't the athlete respond the athlete can respond every. Feels he wants to fuel that fire. That's him. Actually threat the bed and his wife, you're taking it too far. If that if the threat Westbrook and his wife, she would have been like. The court sided whatever. Okay. Yeah. I guess. So if Russell Westbrook says back to the fan, the same thing, the fans had to Westbrook. That'd be okay. Then that's fine. Cool. Okay. Okay. All right. So you're saying that's where it crossed the line. Okay. I understand it think Westbrook as well. All right. Oh, I appreciate that. Good to have you in Detroit. Eight five five two one two four two two seven. All right. So the threatening is then off the table for many of you. But it's okay. If the fans says what he says because the the insult is not one. That features choice words, can I tell you something to as you're writing to me and talking about there shouldn't be the use of any words that you wouldn't say on your radio show. There shouldn't be the use of any words that are obscene or vulgar. I was on a train once a very crowded train leaving Madison Square Garden after a Rangers penguins game. There was a twelve year old boy with his dad who dropped the P word twice standing right next to me twelve year old boy, he was calling an athlete the P word. And I finally said to his dad that really offends me. I'm not gonna listen to it. Would you like me to leave or you're going to tell your son not to say that word? In front of a woman. And he was like, oh my gosh. I'm so sorry. You're right. I'm so sorry, please. Forgive me. He made his son apologizes as well. So my whole point is that what you think is inappropriate may not be what another human being things is inappropriate that dad would never have said a word to his son if I hadn't a stepped in and said, hey, I'm standing right here. So. It's hard to define inappropriate. It's hard to define disrespectful. It's hard to define vulgar and obscene in a way that everyone can agree with. And the fan, of course, is claiming that he didn't say anything that crossed the line. And then it was Westbrook. That crossed the line by threatening his wife who never uncrossed her hands in her lap. Fans are always such perfect angels. I mean, Westbrook was definitely in the wrong. And I wouldn't be surprised if the NBA find him he's got a track record. But if he had not said, I'm going to go up if he had said, hey, man, you down on your knees. Like, you used to would that be okay? Aghast because you don't actually know what they're talking about right to to one person. It's racist to another person's homophobic to another person. It's just about sitting down and icing, your knees. So I guess if you're cryptic comments. Well, then it's okay. All right. Some of your tweets Ayla radio. Dylan says fans crossed the line as soon as the insults. Become personnel. Of course, no touching or throwing things at the athletes. I believe if you make personal attacks at it's at the venues discretion to kick that person out. I appreciate this from Austin. This is a perspective. I had actually thought of the part of the Westbrook issue that makes us difficult about what can be said is the fact of where the fan was sitting. I've heard way more awful things from the nose bleeds toward players and officials, but because they can't hear them. It doesn't matter. I mean, that's true. I've been up to the nose bleeds in the upper deck, and you hear all kinds of vulgar, obscene things things that I would define vulgar and obscene..

But I understand why it's not nearly as pressing an issue because the fans aren't in earshot of the players. It's the players that were concerned about at least. It's the player. I'm concerned about. So yes, they care. I mean, if you are sitting right now in your car or at work or wherever you're listening to the radio.
