"They dubbed his voice. So. Shit came along way. Then they took that character from predator and they put them in twins. I saw that movie. Well, there we go. Value just really got serious. Don't fuck with. Of all things Astana. It's like, okay. All right. Dan Davino leave that alone. So I saw this movie the predator saw, yeah, I see every movement, but it's it's terribly boring. Oh, surprise. I wanna see this weekend. Stick out. Yes, terribly terribly bored and you understand while everybody's going to have to die except the main character, but it's like they forgot to do that or. Yeah. And at the end, those killers are not. Oh, man. Do you like Shane black movies? What else did he do often? We've weapon. Director. He wrote that he wrote, he'd directed kiss kiss bang, bang. That was great. Iron man, three. He wrote directed terrible the nice guys. He wrote directed that. Okay. So, and then he also wrote Lanka's good night with Davis. Yeah, a lot of kissing and the last boy scout Bruce Wilson, David went. Last boy scout. Yeah, as the one of the greatest movies ever made? Well, this one, I don't know if it's too many cokes what it's it's pretty GD ridiculous, but you let me know. Definitely. I'll drop you on number predators. This would be what four off the main as and the no two more with the only responses like the sixth or seventh film in the series Jim as that I knew aliens vs predator just being in your presence is amazing. One, your love a twins is mazing well, you win some. Is it totally? That's what it's exactly like. Totally. One of my kids is totally gained a veto. You've heard the controversy that Shane black had a friend of his in the movie last minute. They had to cut him. They had to cut the scene out that he's in because he's a registered sex offender, underage person, I believe, right? Yeah, so that's not good. That's something you tell the cast ahead of time. Right? Because we're gonna find out that I'm Elliott against. I because this has worked out for a lot of people. That's what I know about movies is tell them whenever they find out then deny at first and then don't apologize because no one's going to accept it because it's terrible polity and then just move on with your life. All right. Number two movie, the none boy am and can the will explain it. Describe it to us. Okay. Then none is probably scary movie where the none is a ghost and someone seeing things and they were raised with religion. So it's like you should believe this because there's a lot of ghosts in religion, but nobody believes her even. We all believe in religion and technically, father, son, and Hulo the Holy Ghost. So it's like what? And then she's like, maybe I should be non or in the non thing. Oh, and she's like a detective of this and improves everybody wrong, nearly getting killed, I assume, but somehow saving day with a lot of really good religious detective work by bringing out bible verses and that somehow the hint. Yeah, wait, really? I haven't seen it, but like I'd seems pretty close. I mean, like I knew that. And also I'd like to think that's how you pitch to you. Executives would be you like, here's what's going to happen Mr. peanut butter from Bo Jackson well and FOX's like greenlighted. Great was so charming. That's in the conjuring series meaning there's conjuring one to Annaba one and two, and you have the non, which really has nothing to do with any of these. What happens is they make a horror movie. They put in characters with no explanation. Then they go, hey, let's make a movie of that one character. So there there was a demon, none. And now they, they tell you how none became a demon, but they don't really did. You know, this is the young nun in the previews. She doing some detective work with. In that key detective Orla go, how did this happen? The gang was scoop just doing spooky oh, she must've went over here because in this bible verse, you know, she's there. She goes to a convent where somebody was murdered and she's with a priest and they try to figure out what's going on. Meanwhile, it's entirely haunted. You're not giving her enough credit on this one kinda did figure the plot of this movie. In all fairness, she did say every word period. So Of in in like. like kind of English. Okay..

"I feel kids relationship with Keegan. Michael key actually worked for me like the ending since we're in full SP spoiler territory here the the ending with those two characters shooting each other. I feel like that is it's one of those moments that should not work, and it probably won't work for a lot of people. But for some reason, it just worked for me like I, I felt like they did enough like work to establish. Relationship, and it just seemed like the kind of heightened thing that those two characters would do in this situation in this weird world that they're living in. So I appreciated that. But in terms of like, I mean, one thing that that I think is very obvious. It's like it seemed like there were moments that the studio implemented decisions that Shane black would not have done. There's a moment specifically where so the one of the big reveals of the movie is that Rory McKenna who's the character played by Jacob Tremblay is actually the one that the ultimate predator is after. We think that it's Quinn McKenna who is buoyed Holbrook's character because he's like the soldier and like one of the big protagonist of the movie, but it's actually the ultimate predator is looking for this kid because he's autistic, and he is like the next level of human evolution or so, the movie explains. And there's this moment where the audience makes that realization and the super predator ultimate predator specifically calls out like and says, you know, this is what I'm, this is what I want. I want the kid not you and then a live you months character has to come on and like basically spell it out again right afterwards. And it's one of those things where like you just showed you didn't need to also then tell, and it was one of those things that that struck me as like, oh, this is the studio, forcing this in just for, you know, they're playing to the cheap seats basically making sure that every single person in the theater is fully aware of what's going on, even though it was painfully obvious from the very beginning and like anybody who's ever seen a movie before knew what was going on. You know, forty minutes earlier. So I, I'm very, very mixed about this movie. I always hate when that happens in the movie, especially when like in a movie, the do a few second flashback to something that just. Happened like thirty minutes before something. Right. It's always frustrating. Okay. I some questions for you guys because there's a lot about this movie that kind of dumbfounded me like I, I agree with Brad in some ways that you know this movie. Is it Brad in Chris, that this movie is the best like kind of recapturing those eighties, nineties action, movies. But I think actually re capture something both the good and the bad ways and with the bad we get a lot of baffling decisions here. Okay. So my first question, do you guys the first predator that comes to earth is supposedly coming to earth to bring a gift to help prevent humans from getting wiped out by the predators? Right? Why does he show up an earth and immediately start killing army pen? I mean, he doesn't show up with the intention of killing, but he's like, he, he's there and he's like being restrained. And so he's. I mean, he's feels threatened. Talking about in the woods before he even gets restrained? I don't even think we seem restraint. Don't we see like that body like hung up before we see the restraint. I, I mean, I'll just add, I think this is the dumbest thing in the movie, so I think it was not killing out well. Okay. Let me move on to my next question then to you guys, sterling k. Brown. I think this was like his worst role in anything ever by the us. My favorite part. And the movie. He's so good in this movie. I don't know. I, I wanted to home be with just him. He was fantastic. I can't believe you didn't like I normally I thought he was just Eric billing Edgar, and he's, he's like such a smart as he. He's just like, he's a cool fucking character. Okay. What happened to him at the end of the movie? Like at one point he just disappeared that I missed something. No, he so he, he has the the, the. Not yet from predators using, and he turns to look at the ultimate predator and the gun is intuitive, and so it shoots his own head off..

The Predator movie review

"We got a new category, predator here is the brasa predator Rostom on. So, yeah. We just watched the predator. It's stuck on my hat. It is. There? Yeah, we just wash it and I think we both kinda liked it. I think I liked it more than you did. Right. But I think we both raised a pretty high. Yeah, we did. I, I'm, I'm putting up my number three as my third favorite predator movie. What about so I put her to. I'm gonna put it right back to it, just it just ekes out over the second one predator to mostly because the action sequences and any movie were Gabe. UC dies. I kinda downgrade, you can't kill the man, Gary abusing, even then even before the movie that shows some previews and they talked about the second with the way Gary UC died had to be epic. Yeah, yeah. They were shown ended previews that was kind of like you pointed out. You've got cut in half, but we're talking. Fell down ever feel. Yeah, he's uttering see, I place it second, and you put just blow that third. I mean, I honestly came in thinking this movie was going to be, I would have probably been walking out, but I, I liked it. It was pretty good all the pre all the previews and the talk. I was expecting it to be bad and. Shane black. I don't know a lot of his work anyway, so I was kinda kinda if you on that. I didn't see a lot of the action sequences in the previews. So I think the action sequences really helped a lot to elevate it in my mind. Yeah. I know you also talked about some of the humor in it. Kind of didn't Dan deferred you little bit, or what did you think about some of the humor parts? There was more humor than normal in the first one had some humor into two, but it was more kind of almost dark humor, but it was. It was a little different. You know, we had key in it, so it's going to be a little humor. You got, it's like, you can't have. He's got to be the smart ass or he's got us say something funny. He can't. You can't not. It wasn't enough to make the movie bad for me, but it was close. It was borderline too much. I mean, we're starting at the yellow peaks on the humor part you you rated your third one, second one. Sorry, I got my third one. Let's the some people. And we're here with what's your name, Sir? John, just we just watched the predator. What'd you think spreading the good? I love. I mean, what did you think about the what? What did you think about the action sequences? I mean, where would you? Where would you rank this among the all the predator movies that are out there. I don't know if I can really say it's better than you know the original predator with Arnold, but in definitely ranks up there 'cause I put it, I put his second. I jumped way up to second. And any favorite part of the movies every what's your favorite part of this movie? Without giving any spoilers just, you know. The, I guess the big surprise, you know. All right. I know so many good parts. It's easy to stop. I was so surprised watching. This will be. I be honest, I thought I thought I was going to be walking out of this movie. I wasn't going to enjoy it as much as I did. So we were talking about on the way out of the theater and I was like, wow, it's way better than I thought. Yeah, I did enjoy it a lot more than I thought I was as you know, mo- most sequels tend to kind of go little downhill and this one, honestly, just about it all the way back. Did you notice they kept referencing the first two movies? I honestly, I was thinking that was expecting Arnold or Donald Donald Glover, Donald governor Daniels, Danny, Danny Glover. Sorry, Donald was Landau. I was expecting cameo from there, but never came out, but it's still pretty good. Right? Yeah, I was expecting Arnold because you know it's new predator movie, but we, we did get a beauty. We did. We did. We did play actually played the guy son keys, so. So you gave it thumbs up liked it to them. Thanks man. Right. Thank you.

"shane black" Discussed on Double Toasted

"Well. We we, we weren't as far, but you know, still didn't agree. One percent that's Sammy, Sammy bones over there is the Senate in the ranks. There you go. Yeah, I know you don't want the camera. I liked that Kim. The cameras in. Just weird meal was missing with Leslie. Yes, she was trying to get good. Good. Yes. Yes, sir. Yeah, because I watched this and I was mad the whole time. Watch movie, not all the whole time hearing your view. Okay. Kind of little more context because all the first one love the first one I saw versus predator review and that this weeks ago watched that say too much about this idea of what people can do it predator something very good. Maybe something not so much. So watching this and after in the back of my head, I noticed more cap is awful. In this the the movement of the actual predator CG I don't think is that great. But the moat cap, I noticed specifically choppy at awful. It looked bad every time you really every time using the clear, the clear stealth mode. Gidgets look like shit like the image look fine, but his movement was did it. I did not like it at all is one of the first things I noticed every time his moving was choppy see, I didn't. I didn't even notice that and it threw me my okay. This is a real thing because back then Bennett show too much of the predator they showed it kind of. Shadows in the dark. And so even has that film grain of what you're was it when the eighty eighty seven eighty seven. Yeah, it was eighty seven. So yes, had the advantage of having some grain to us. It looks a little Morial but this is all HD. This is all clear as day and it just didn't look nearly as good because it's just silly. Sometimes you know it's prosthetic so can only look like prosthetic so much, but the thing I didn't like where you guys were kind of like fifty fifty on was I did not like that. They're all comedians. Every single one of them. They had a comedy, especially Keegan, Michael key. You said that you didn't bother you as much. Yeah, actually liked him a lot. I he got them soul because because not only is okay, comedy is is relative to anybody, right? But just some of the over the Todd, like, hey, you know, like Jimmy v. refrigerator running. His that was that was a ploy I think jokes were was supposed to be bad too. They were, but he but he never stopped though if that was the case, he never stopped and then his little back and forth with Thomas Jane, I go, okay. So he has to read so, oh, he's just going to cuss a lot. Okay. Sure. But then I realized something now is the first one today and Shane black was the stupid comedian. He is giant thing and he has one too, and that was it. And then I discovered he has Therese. He came out to reds this year, really, really. So Shane black is what people didn't really like Arnold Schwarzenegger. They like me some put to me. They're gonna go home in the new if knowing it was annoying, and then there's parts where I kind of did laugh. Then you had not Michael penna the the super pseudo religious Mexican guy who is there just to be Michael pain. You've been talking about the the GOP Nedal. Hey, hey, I love you. I'm in love with the girl what he really was kind of like they couldn't get Michael Pinon. So. Pain is finally said, notice saying, we're going to the wall. Doing good for this movie. That's kind of an indicator of what you're thinking. So, but then I don't feel too much because there's things that just bug me about this movie. You mentioned the Lassie dogs for for those you who are saying, okay, I like serious predator and not expecting funny printer. You're going to think that's dumb shit because I thought that was dumb shit. I was like, are they really doing this? They're really fucking doing this and they're sticking with it. Oh, it's a, it's a major plot point then that that didn't play you, right. They play that up labs. "In the did and I, I wanted to say one thing about what you said about whether they changed by the. I get the impression that the changes to both gone through this entire Shane black once said this thing about how when you he's doing press for the nice guys. He said, when you're watching a movie that takes place of the course of one week or two, you're watching the most important week of that character's life. Like, that's that is his philosophy of making movies and writing movies is like you're watching the most important week of their life because otherwise, if it's not like why else? Why why? Why would you bother telling that story? You know. And that's kind of how I felt about this movie is go ahead. You get, sorry. I didn't mean to you that you get a clear. You get a clear sense of it when he has that sit down with with his wife at the table and miles, you know, he, he's, he's, he's a very changed person in that moment at, you know, he's comes in beaten and bruised and yet they're still an explosion of anger there. But then you know, he asks her not to use the n word around and I, it does feel as if he has had a paradigm shift, you know? Yeah. But you know, in reality, we know that chain character changes never straight line or usually isn't, and I'm not saying everything's great for no one, but I do think like they're on a better path now that's my feeling about it, at least. So anyway. Any other thoughts before we wrap this up? Just wanted to mention the scene with the kid after words where he goes outside to play with Colin and Colin chastise. In point of finger Ince's, stop it and the kid through his hands up, don't shoot, don't shoot. I mean, because they're pamphlets for that to teach your kids had protect the right. Sump shin. It's the talk. I thought it was going to be a sex, talk pamphlet. And then when they reveal what it was later, I mean, you know, that was a moment where my own way privilege kicked in where like that's not a conversation. My parents ever had to have with me because I have a protection that I am a white girl and like that's something I was aware of before going to see this movie because of a friend of mine who talked about that experience with her own children, but to see it in that context. See a kid that little and to see a kid out little being totted as a game so that they understand the reaction they need to have, but also so that they're not scared like. I mean, the movie just has those moments. They're so artful it explicit, expressing the trauma that we are inflicting as a society right now, and that was that was part of why needed to walk with it for a bit. And I'm, I'm astonished by this movie. I'm really grateful for. I think that they put together something extraordinary that speaks to where we are in, speaks to where we need to go. Well, that is our view of blind spotting. You should go see it. It's out in theaters right now. "In in things apparently shane black who directed that movie wrote directed that movie was involved in the production of men to and of course directed iron man three which we're not talking about in this episode but downey just it's a huge there are lots of good things about this movie i remember when this movie came out in two thousand eight same year that the dark knight came out and because i liked as people now no but i was two years away from being the host of the incomparable i i like saying making occasional statements that are that are that make especially kind of nerd accepted fact questioned bringing jay's and like i was way better movie the dark knight and everybody's dark knight it's so okay i really like iron man it's fun like and if i had to say like is it fun i don't know ironman it's fun it's fun it's not it's got dark things in it but it's a fun fun movie re re watching it feels like less like if you're like oh god dark night to run over you watch that movie we watch iron man yeah instantly signed up for this episode of the incomparable because i and i haven't seen it since two thousand eight an hour it's like i know i love that movie it was so great at the time so with this movie you see people at play that this end the second movie and to its succeeds or doesn't succeed in various places across the two films but they are having so much fun putting this thing together jeff bridges was quoted recently as he was frustrated by the improv nature of of how these how his movie was made and ironman too is just as improv you can tell that in the dialogue you can tell that just sort of how things run but he said he finally made piece it when he realized that it was he he was going to look at this as a two hundred million dollar student phil and just let it go he wanted he he wanted everybody to know their lines going onto the on that's not that's not what these movies are all about these these are excellent actors riffing and for the most part it really works sounds like patrick stewart yeah brian what do you think about the about arm in my favorite thing about watching this movie in particular because i had seen this movie before i saw the vendors in two thousand twelve and then iron man was the only movie i've seen going into the adventures in two thousand twelve with all of the marvel exhaustion lately it's it was so refreshing rewatching these movies and not needing to know five hundred different little factoid about different characters and settings and props and in vanity stones and whatever was going in having fun watching the sky learn grow in a really interesting way and just not worrying too much about the rest of the marvel universe because this is the one that started everything off this is the perfectly it was refreshingly boring compared to all the other movies that they put that on the monks so his what central's it simple in a way back in the day they had box with brian anyway it's simple in a way right it's pretty straightforward there there is a flashback sequence in it which is so it's not entirely linear but you don't need to know anything about anything in our man it is it is literally just a movie about what how are men happens that's it which is so refreshing one of the things i do love about this whole thing and you know seeing since we're kicking off the coverage here about the whole and i think i talked about this a little bit on the infinity war podcast that we did is because it was so frustrating as starting out in the nineties as teenager going and picking up comic books and it felt like there were decades of backstory right and it's like oh my god i'm going to take the time to go and read all these things in the mid nineties there was no wikipedia to quickly get a summary of what's the basic gist of this character and so being able to start with kind of a clean slate and be in it from zero and just all the way up like was kind of cool and as someone who came into it with a little bit.

"Comes down in the predator comes to suburbia but it seemed like it was mostly the rest of the trailer was in the woods like the predator killing people in the woods well i think that they recently did bunch of reshoots on the predator yeah so the footage that we saw in this trailer probably is before the reshoots the rumor is that the entire third act has been reworked that that is the case so so who knows what's going to actually be the third act now but the fact of the matter is that looked i thought the footage was good it didn't wow me in a way that like i was hoping to be wowed but i also think that shane black makes great movies and no matter what the trailer looks like we are in for at least something funny and entertaining and cool yeah i mean it looks like a coal predator movie but as someone who is super excited see this footage those little underwhelming i mean not that it was bad event anyway i didn't get the sense of ikea the signature saying shane black dialogue or any also this is not a we're spending this is not a well this is what people want to know about this is this is not an amazing trailer it was an okay trailer and this is also not a huge budget movie this is a mid range yeah budget predator and i do think that this is a film that's still being worked on in the editing room with the whole third act being reworked so i think that there have they're not able to sell the film in the way that i think normally we would know because it normally their marketing film and they know the entire you know it's been finished or they know what it's going to be but the third act being reworked you don't really know how to sell it because you don't know where it's really going to go.

"Bitcoin yeah you know there's a lot of trading so to speak i thought the movie was very upsetting i'm not sure that it was scary but i i was unnerved in a way that i'm not often i would also say that they've realized now that there is a vernacular and even an emotional state that comes with communicating with people online there's a without giving anything away characters communicate over facebook messenger but that thing that everybody is familiar with with basically like we're having a facebook like an instant message conversation but one person is like waiting with baited breath for response but the other person is like a now i'm getting in the shower and you're just like hey are you there like what are like what's the what's the deal like blinking lipsius basically this this anxiety that is now sort of part and parcel with modern day communication that i found fascinating his seep translated into our movie so flipside of dark web is upgrade yeah i mentioned llanos new film you know lee wrote several of the saw movies he's been responsible for a lot of horror movies over the last ten years creatively this isn't quite horror no this is way more mid to mid eighties to mid nineties action siphon yeah kind of reminded me of lawnmowerman or virtuosity maybe virtuosity robocop matrix terminator all touchdowns for this movie and i think you're going to keep seeing you know there was just a report today about how captain marvel is supposedly influenced by nineties action movies like the sort of has like shane black vibe to it shane black will be back with the predator this year action movie vibe that you and i kind of grew up on it will be a very interesting stress test for that to see if we actually wanted it back or not.
