"He had a macular degeneration in both eyes and they made a decision to do work on both eyes at the same time. He was not gained for that. He only wanted one eye to be looked at at a time, but they could cut him a deal if he did both eyes at the same time. And he could see in both eyes, but he went forward because he was going to get cut a deal to have the surgery for a lesser amount. And both sides went behind and I spent a lot of time with them over the last three or four years of his life before he passed. And so I just asked you to like really just seek wisdom. I mean, you obviously are a great guy and I can hear it in your voice and have been patient, but be more patient and be more concerned about keeping your eyesight than letting these guys just go ahead and make some decision for you. Please get please get advised well before you move forward. Agreed. Yes, yes. All right, so you want to take a guess on trivia. Yeah, I'm just going to shoot for one thing and I would say an elevator is my thought. Nice but not right. Yeah. We'll talk to some of these. I'm going to get it right. I promise. I know you. Thank you so much. All right. Thanks for drying. For keeping me okay. Yes, it's not hard to find one in any medium or large size American city, maybe even small size I don't know, but a hundred years ago, it was rare. The oldest one still in operation is in Seattle. What is it? 888-876-5593. That's 88 88 Raleigh and Laura is in plane. Hello, Laura. How are you? I'm well, thank you. Oh, good. Well, good to hear from you, and you want Gilligan's island trivia. Speakerphone. Yes. I'm pretty good at 60s and 70s trivia, so I thought, oh, what the heck? Let's try Gilligan. Okay, Gilligan's island. What is the professor's actual name? Oh. I'm guessing the characters. So I mean, on the show, we had an actual name. Professor. Oh my goodness, professor. Oh, good gosh. Christmas. Oh, I can think of the other character's names professor. Galilee got me. It's nothing's coming to mind, but his name was Roy hinckley. Really? Yes. Oh my gosh, I've seen every episode and I don't remember that. He was played by Russell Johnson, originally in the pilot episode. It was John Gabriel. But the professor's backstory identifies him as Roy hinckley, although his actual name is rarely mentioned. He was a high school science teacher born in Cleveland, Ohio, his expertise was as a bat Ness whose purpose in joining the ill fated voyage, these stranded castaways was to write a book to be titled fun with ferns. Well, thank you. I always enjoy your trivia and I appreciate it that you could actually stop me. So that was pretty good. I'll try again next week. I'm counting on it. Thanks. Appreciate it. Thanks, rally. Bye. And that was one of the things that Sherwood Schwartz created who did a number of things that were just classic to say the least. Of course, he was a writer for the adventures of Ozzie and harad and all sorts of other things, but not only created Gilligan's island and the Brady bunch. She also wrote the theme for Gilligan's island and the theme for the Brady bunch and yeah, he was he was around for quite a while. And so there and interestingly, he got to California because he was pursuing his master's in biology at UCLA. When he began writing jokes for Bob Hope and that was that was it. All right, so 888-876-5593 88 88 Raleigh. And let's see. I believe I already did that. No, I didn't. I got to do this right now on WGN radio. We have live news broadcasts throughout the evening from other Shakespeare plays. So you sort of get to see all Shakespeare plays in one. Artistic director Simon Godwin says the D.C. setting unlocks thematic potential. Everyone is very concerned about their reputation in Washington. And this is a play very much about reputation and honor and your name, in quotation marks. So I think it'll play into kind of anxieties, but also comic opportunities. Still in Virginia on the antelope through annandale, the crash after Braddock road and before a little bit of return by completely wrapped up and gone just some minor delays as the folks hang out on the right shoulder there. "Visiting wounded warrior project dot org slash empower women vets. 1238. Traffic and weather on the 8th, here's Carlos Ramirez. Thanks Ian we'll start off on I 95 headed southbound, the work zone is after one 23, only have two lanes getting by along the left hand side, minimal delays for now just be careful along the far right, of course. In a loop of the beltway, it looks like the express lanes are closed tonight. You will not be able to use the express lanes on the northbound side of four 95, not to worry I'm not seeing any delays on your main lanes right now as you head past 66. And at points north up towards the American legion bridge, westbound 66 the works on is between route 7 and the capital beltway, left lane gets you by right now, the ramp to the inner loop of the beltway still currently closed. You'll have to use route 7 watts bound to get northbound on four 95. Eastbound 66, between a route 50 and one 23 should only have a single lane getting by there. Don't really want to say to the left or to the right. It's kind of down the center of the roadway, as you make your way eastbound on 66, just be extra careful. They've got work kind of looking like it's on both sides of the roadway. The point is, you only have a single lane. That's the point. Just one lane getting by as you head over towards one 23. In Maryland, northbound to 70, there was a crash reported near montrose road. Looks like they should have, they have taken care of that. I 95 BW Parkway looking good, and it looks like the pedestrian crash that was at the intersection of Georgia avenue in Florida should be clear by now, but it's still crowded in that whole area. As expected, Saturday night after all, the extra careful in the district when the driving through some of the more crowded areas, pedestrians all over the place, and sometimes they don't like to use crosswalks, so be extra careful there. "The four G street bridge is certainly a master as a crash at Washington boulevard and traffic has stopped at the moment when you do get by your squeeze by to the left, but at the moment it doesn't look very like very much traffic is getting by. The service road will get you around the crash, however. You can get on just beyond the crash from the service road passing Washington boulevard on three 95 south of course, the easy pass lanes also get by without delay. On 95 you're good to go from Springfield to Fredericksburg and 66 is running well. Meantime traffic is doing okay on the Maryland side on the interlude beltway at route 50 John Hanson highway, that crash is out of the roadway now. And route 15, both ways, the ram to go east onto 66, looks like that is blocked. That ramp is at least the right side of the ramp is blocked from 15 to takes you on to eastbound 66, route 7 eastbound and aspirin village boulevard has a crash as well. And right now, in Maryland on 95 and the Baltimore Washington Parkway all is quiet, not so in route 50 eastbound. That is jammed, getting out to the bay bridge from cape saint Clair, two lanes only open for eastbound traffic due to weather. And two 70s doing all right, but in Frederick Patrick street, which is route 40 eastbound closed, rolling is blocked between Lyndon avenue in 15 of the crash westbound traffic does get by now. "The roads this morning for the holiday, right? Well, that's the hope, at least at this point, at least we can see normally where we'll have some delays There are nonexistent, but we do have a few things out of the ordinary going on We've got some slowdowns in Virginia. We'll start with the express lanes northbound. We had a vehicle fire after the aka Kwan, single file rights going to be getting you by just about put that out now. You'll find 95 south of very slow getting out of Stafford riding toward falmouth. The wreck after centerport Parkway had been right in the middle of the roadway. You're going to be under Virginia state authorities direction going south on 95 toward 17. Now there have been a delay earlier and Gainesville around 66 going Gainesville east towards Centreville. There had been some overnight work between 29 and 28 that's gone. The delays have eased completely as you ride all the way in toward roslyn. You should find your travel lanes open, check in once more in the Rosalind tunnel, the work zone had been overnight with the right lane getting by. You will find in Maryland the northbound Baltimore Washington parkways ride toward one 98 and 32, crash along the right side of the roadway. Everything is now on the shoulder as you move toward Frederick, 70 east at a meyersville toward mile post 46, crash has been moved over onto the shoulder. Down in fort Washington, oxen hill road near fort foot road, we've got word of a crash, riding downtown, we're still quiet, we're a little heavier, D.C. two 95 going south now toward nanny hill and burrows avenue, no worries north on I two 95 out of ox and cove, still quiet across the freeway and you're looking good in the third street tunnel. ". Start at indeed dot com slash credit. Thanks for being with us this election night at 6 28. Traffic and weather on the 8s we kick it off with Dave dildine. There is a car fire fully ablaze at the I 95 route one 23 interchange. I'm not really sure which ramp I'm looking at here in camera, but there's definitely a car fire in the 95 route one 23 interchange. And that will certainly slow the pace if for no other reason than rubber necking on 95. There's also a car fire in McLean on route one 23. Southbound traffic was stopped between the George Washington Parkway and Kirby wrote to extinguish that fire, but that is backing up northbound traffic on the George Washington Parkway. And from the chain bridge, you weren't able to get into mcclain because the southbound lanes of chain bridge road Dolly Madison boulevard were blocked. Outbound from the key bridge into Rosalind, traffic was slow. There was what was called in as a crash along the left side as the key bridge turns into fort Meyer drive. Three 95 will be slow inbound at the 14th street bridge in southbound toward Sterling to now in the south side of the beltway traffic has been really slow this evening between Springfield, Alexandria and the Wilson bridge, long volume delays there. And on the Italy toward the American legion bridge, new crash en route 28 northbound after Sterling boulevard. That is backing up northbound traffic and on the interloop of the beltway in college park, there's a crash before route one on the right side, college park, and southbound on the Baltimore Washington Parkway traffic is heavy and slow through Laurel with a crash before one 97. "To the job if he wins the election Tuesday against Republican Dan Cox. Stay with us at WTO for more on these stories in just minutes. It's four 48. Traffic and weather on the 8s and when it breaks, is Rick McClure in the traffic center. All right, football game is over at FedEx field and the volume is on both loops to land over between route 50 and central avenue we had one broken down on the outer loop before river road that was in the left lane and the volume is still on the Virginia side through McLean where it slows between Georgetown pike in the legion bridge. And that's starting to grow a little bit. Marilyn and I two 70, we had some rainfall there about an hour ago it was slow in the southbound lanes through German town between father Hurley boulevard and millbrook road. No issues reported. Had some high standing water traveling east on shady grove road toward the ICC, please be careful there. Route 50 across the bay bridge delays are on the westbound side across Kent island, three lanes west, two lanes east across the bay, over Virginia, we had some building volume on the eastbound side through a fairfax near route 50, that's it. I 95, no issues reported. Still quiet in both directions, just a couple of weekend volume slowdowns from lord and woodbridge and through Dale City and a little below speed on the northbound side, the parts of Fredericksburg and falmouth. Watch out traveling east or west toward dulles international by way of the toll road, there's police action at centerville road as blocking all lanes at the moment, and through the district of course trying to get out. By way of the westbound freeway toward the outbound 14th street bridge, don't even think about it as the demonstration continues around mid span of the bridge that's covering all lanes at it began as a caravan and the vehicles involved may have been carrying some of the demonstrators Wally. This turned around and started blocking all the lanes there until the MPD arrives soon trying to sift through that volume. "That last look in the traffic camera only single file left single file right is all that gets you by. If you have not yet committed a 95 mainline there, you can use those local links to get around this crash, but if you are committed, you're only getting buy in a single file to the right in a long delay on that northbound trip. On south N95 standard volume delays and stretches out of a call it required towards falmouth, the easy pass lanes are southbound, who know how for northbound is caught in that crash of Dale City. His slow briefly supplemented 85 across the aqua Quan as well, 66, slowing both ways just outside the beltway between nutley street and the belly. That should be mostly volume. Mcclain crash on old dominion drive should be east bed after chain bridge road. There you should be under police direction. Driving in Maryland reports of any major issues two 70 though jammed northbound out of clarksburg toward heights town with no incidents reported blocking where you can see some of those delays heading to that lane drop in the nearest camera, but no incidents or work zones currently reported there. "We talk about so many things. I don't even know our conversations go all over the map. She's very interested and interesting. Which is something I can't say about a lot of young. Artists, you know, I feel like a lot of people don't know themselves. And I would really just say she's surrounded by a really great family. I know her mother Claire, we've known each other since our California Shakespeare theater days and actually that's where I met Zendaya when she was 5 years old. She was a young girl who was who kept coming to see this Shakespeare production. And we found out that one of the productions she loved the most was a production of Oswald that ends well where I played the clown. And I remember playing with her like three different times because my job is to play with the audience. And then we realized that that was that's our first connective tissue that we first met that long ago. You know, when she was about 5 or 6 years old. So I think that there's something energetic. There's something cosmic that we're now working together so closely. There was already deemed and set up in the stars. And I think she's just loves her family and her close friends. And I think it shows in her work that she cares about people. And then the season ends with rue trying to make amends to people that she's wronged, including Ali, and there's just a heartbreaking scene where she she calls Ali on the phone. And I understand that that was shot in kind of an unusual way that you were like, even though it's a phone call, you were in the room together when you were shooting that scene? Yeah, I think Sam thought that was very important that it felt like we were truly having this conversation. I can see it right now Zendaya standing across from me across the room. And I'm on the other end of the room. And now we look at each other and said the lines. I just wanted to call you and tell you that I'm sorry for what I said. And I really regret it. I just. I never should have said that. And I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Listen to me. I forgive you. And I know, in particular, I remember Sam and I talked about that long pause that I take. And said it's important, he asked me, he would just ask me questions. Why do you forgive her? Do you forgive her? And I think if those are the questions that Ali had to ask himself before he gave an answer. And that's also part of his journey, which is forgiveness, and I think that that's something ultimately that he's working on to make sure that even if someone has wronged him

"And that has my reels and that I do update regularly with stuff I'm up to. You can also find me on IMDb. Dave quay is not known professionally. Lovely. And yeah, anything coming up in the pipeline. I have a few things coming up. You can see me at the Shakespeare theater in D.C. doing a show that was supposed to happen in 2019. I'll be playing dogberry in much ado, which will be a lot of fun. Simon Godwin is directing that'll be great. And then in the next actually, this coming week, I'm directing a film project, which is a hybrid Peter film project called get to 11, which is an adaptation of Patrick lillis as one man show. So that'll be a next several months or so. Nice. Very cool. Awesome. Well, Dave, I feel like you have so much more ahead of you and we're going to we are going to have difficulty booking you maybe the next time. No, listen, thank you guys. I feel like you have so much ahead of you, man. And yeah, a lot to look forward to, Dave. Yeah. Good stuff. I really appreciate it. Nice talking and we'll have to hang in continue our movie conversation. Absolutely. Yes, yes, yes. Dave clay, thank you so much for stopping by. We really appreciate it. Be well, see you guys later. Hi, Dave. Bye. What a wise guy. I was just gonna say, yeah, his wisdom is great, and it's refreshing and, you know, a lot of people, I guess, I guess that's an element that a lot of actors lack, whether it wasn't taught to them as kids or given to them in the training that sort of that really mature and wise way to navigate not only their acting, but their life. And you can tell when someone walks into a room and they have it, you're like, I want you in my circle. I want you in the room with me. You're somebody that can add to the stew here. And you're reliable. I trust you. I trust people like that. Who's sure of themselves? And they have principles. And they have a guideline and they know what they're doing. Even if it's scary and especially if there are mistakes, their perspective is just primed with success just because of how they're looking at all situations. And that's somebody that should be on a level of a guest star series regular. Yeah. It's very much an old soul. Yeah. Yeah, I agree. Alrighty, everybody. For another great episode before the break, Tommy take us home. You can find out more about before.

How theater weathers wars, outlasts empires and survives pandemics

"Oh firm use of fire that would ascend the brightest heaven of invention a kingdom for a stage princes to act and monarch to behold the swelling scene. Though to be totally honest right. Now i'd settle for a real school day a night out and a hug from a friend. The words that i spoke at the beginning firm use a fire etc are shakespeare's. He wrote them as the opening to his play. Henry the fifth and there are also quite likely. The first words ever spoken on the stage of the globe theatre in london when it opened in fifteen ninety nine the global go on to become the home for most of shakespeare's work and from what i hear that shakespeare guy was pretty popular but despite his popularity just four years later in sixteen zero three. The globe would close for an extended period of time in order to prevent the spreading and resurgence of the bubonic plague and facts from sixteen zero three to sixteen thirteen. All of the theaters in london were closed on and off again for an astonishing seventy eight months here in chicago in two thousand sixteen new theaters opening as well. The steppenwolf had just opened at seventeen hundred theater. Space the goodman down in the loop had just opened its new center for education and engagement and the chicago shakespeare theatre had just started construction on its newest theatre space. The yard today. Those theatres as well as the homes are over two hundred and fifty other theater companies across chicago are closed due to covid nineteen from broadway to l. a. Theaters are dark and when or if the lights are ever going to come on again. That means that tens of thousands of theater artists are out of work from actors and directors to stage managers. Set builders costume designers. It's not like it's an easy time to go wait tables. It's a hard time for the theater. And it's a hard time for the world but while theaters may be feeder as an art form has the potential to shine on how we can process and use this time apart to build a brighter more equitable healthier future together. Theater is the oldest art form we humans have. We know that the greeks were writing plays as early as the fifth century. Bc but theater goes back before that it goes back before we learned to write to call and response around fires. And who knows maybe before we learned to build fire itself feeder has outlasted empires weathered wars and survived plagues in the early sixteen hundred. Theatres closed over sixty percent of the time in london. And that's still looked at is one of the most fertile an innovative periods of time in western theater history. The plays that were written then are still performed today. Over four hundred years later unfortunately in the early sixteen hundreds a different plague was making its way across the ocean and it hit the shores of what would be called american sixteen nineteen when the first slave ships landed in jamestown virginia. Racism is an ongoing plague in america but many of us in the theater like to think we're not infected or that we are at worst as symptomatic but the truth is our symptoms have been glaring onstage and off. We have the opportunity to use this intermission. Caused by one clegg to work to cure another. We can champion a theater. That marches protests burns bills. We can reimagine the way our theaters institutions work to make them more reflective. And just we can make this one of the most innovative and transformative periods of time in western theater. History one that we're still learning about celebrating four hundred years from now. What we embody in the theater can be embodied in the world. Why because theater is an essential service. And what i mean by that. Is that theater is in service to that which is essential about ourselves. Love anger rage despair. Hope theatre not only shows us the breadth and depth of human emotions. It allows us to experience catharsis to feel our feelings and rather than ignore compartmentalize them move through them to discover. What's on the other side

Synchronized Acting: Shakespeare to Sorkin

"So actually seen actors lose out on a job because of a lousy sweet. The way you say your name has as much to do with the level of confidence you're showing. I mean, it's like suddenly they're in the witness protection program. Welcome to casting actors, cast insights for actors on acting in the business of show casting director. Jeffrey drives Bach takes you behind the scenes, reveal secrets to successful acting career. You can find out more on the web at casting actors, cast dot com. Now, here's your host jeopardy drives by. Hey, everybody welcome yet again to another episode of casting actors cast today. We're gonna be talking about what I call synchronicity synchronized acting from Shakespeare to Sorkin. We're gonna dive into some of the important qualities that authors with their material want to accomplish when they have you perform it. But first let me just take a moment. Once again, I keep on wanting to thank you so much for your really kind words that I'm receiving back and the fact that the podcast is doing so extraordinarily well, I'm a little humbled by the whole thing, and I really want to keep on doing these. And if you're one of those people out there and I know you're out there, I could hear you. I would love just to hear some feedback. So if you go to casting actress, cast dot com can either send me a voice message. It's really easy. Just a one click and I get the, I get the voice. You can introduce yourself and say, Hello and thank you for the Pat. Gas or whatever you want. Even if you have a question, I would be thrilled to have an opportunity to play your question on the air and also answer live, so we can really have a nice dialogue, especially in those areas that you think I might not be covering to your satisfaction because with your contribution, I can help shape and design the direction of some of these podcasts to really be of great benefit to you. And I know I've mentioned this before, but I really love doing these podcasts. And one of the reasons is I feel like, and I know this is gonna sound pollyanna, but I feel like I Mabel to give back information that I wish I had had when I first started out, I feel like it's really an amazing journey that we're all on together. And I guess that's another reason why I'm feel so motivated about these particular podcasts. So thanks so much. So synchronized acting, we're gonna talk about exactly what does that really, really mean? I'm entitling the. Podcast synchronized acting Shakespeare to Sorkin. It seems to me based on my experience that actors can fall into basically one of two categories. So which one are you? My category was honestly, if I really took a hard look, I would say that I was a lazy actor many times. I just didn't work hard enough and for those roles that I really really wanted, I would over work it. And so immersed myself into it that by the time I showed up to audition to show the producer of the director of the casting director how I was going to play the part. I ended up wanting it so much that that desperation seemed to bleed through everything that I had done. Everything that I had rehearsed any of the thought processes probably because I was a little more nervous than normal and it just completely exploded in front of me, and there are some. Really painful experience. I'm laughing because I'm looking back on some of those painful moments that I had had as an actor. So I oftentimes just felt like I worked either too hard or not hard enough, but basically, I, I would say I would fall under the lazy actor category. And then of course I've worked with and I see now that there are those actors the other category, which is the what I call the overworked after the actor that absolutely works so hard to discover as many different interesting nuances that they can and apply themselves to almost every conceivable option in the character that they are about to play that they literally exhaust themselves out of making a clean choice for the character. So that overworked actor has put so much into it that they just simply cannot make. A clear cut decision about it because there are too many options available. So when you entertain the idea of having too many options in your character, you end up not being able to make a decision about any of them. So I know this is a little simplistic, but I think that actors are either a lazy actor or that
