"All right, Jerry. Thank you very much. Eddie brought up a good point in my ear. He said maybe that was a year one of the years that the Knicks didn't have any picks in the first round, and they didn't send somebody scale. But no, they did they did have a pick. And it was Jaanus was selected ahead of their pick. But they took him Hardaway junior in that draft to ended up being a game and time coupon go, jeez, you're gonna make me go back. I thought he was. Passed on them. Right. Yeah. They it wasn't. It wasn't top five. Right. So it was the twenty thirteen NBA draft. So it wasn't like a slam dunk wear. Every. Well, they're not wasn't LeBron. We'll put it that way. No. But I mean, he's one rare slam dunk a lotta guys aren't so she was taken. Fifteenth a lot of teams that have to leave pass on them. Yeah. Fifteenth Trey Burke was in that draft auto auto porter. That was the Anthony Bennett trapped. Oh my God. Right Senate when number one overall, exactly. That's why the draft is a little shoot. Yes. Sure. Is there's a lot of people who think Barrett's the best player to take as opposed to Williamson who knows? And it went Bennett depot porter. Zeller Alex, Len from Maryland, Nerlens Noel, macklemore caldwell-pope, Burke, McCollum carter-williams, Stephen Adams, Kelly Olympic Shabazz Muhammad, and then Janas one. Mrs there. Wow. Yeah. Well, good thing for the next thing. His brother theon us. Or they're no sisters something entered a Gumbo. Tremendous. All right. Thank you, Jerry. If you one of these people, it's breaking resolutions left. And right. Well, here's one.

"So if they do, it'll, it'll come at some real consequence, whatever that is. It could be getting a getting worse. It could be giving up an asset, whatever that is. But I think when Ellington's on a team friendly deal, I would, you know, obviously awaiting time a guy, it's guy signs of team friendly. When you're you, go would have been great to have them on a two year contract, but he wouldn't assign that because when made any sense other than maybe a player a player option. But that would have been less than friendly and I'm maybe maybe he would have signed it actually. I mean, that's one where he's thirty. So yeah, if you, if you can pull, if you could pull that that would have been a little bit better. I think Derek Jones giving him a guaranteed contract. That's fine. He looked good in part assembly before he hurt his ankle. And I mentioned this on Twitter, but it's just so striking. Not only did Miami not signed any of any anybody else's free agents. None of their own free agent signed. Anywhere else either because like Jordan, Mickey and Wade, and you donnas has limb or anything. It's just a weird off season. 'cause like you could say with other teams? Oh, like like almost nothing happened. Almost nothing happened here. And so for me, that puts a lot of weight on winnowing, and I think went went into contract. So I gave them a b. plus slash incomplete. Yes, it's almost like all of these teams spent a ton of money in two thousand sixteen totally text out and can't do anything. They spent a lot in twenty seventeen. Yeah, that's true too. So let's what did you end up giving them out plus slashing complete, okay. Yeah, I wanted to see, plus let's turn now to the bucks Dante even Chengdu at number seventeen. Ersan Ilyasova three years twenty one million last year. Non-guaranteed brook Lopez for the biannual exception of three point, three million dollars for one year, and then they lost Jabbari Parker and Shabazz Muhammad and Jason Terry, you know, don't care too much about the last two, Brandon Jennings just waved. I ended up going with a d for them. I originally had them in the sea range and then move them down to d because of the the opportunity cost here. I mean, this is another team where you have a very limited window to make the best possible team. You can't run you on us in the near term in the long term. And yeah, Brooke Lopez's on his contract. Total support if even Chen zone had played in summer league and done really well, then I could certainly see this IT's the big thing that. Will change this number of this letter. Great. If it goes up but air Ilyasova a good player doesn't move the needle enough, but they paid him like he does. And so they had the mid level or they could have just frigging page Barry Parker like they could have gone another directions. And so instead they get somebody who maybe lowers their floor who plays the position. I think Johnny should play eventually who's just a good vet and they had to do better than this and they didn't. They had like sometimes I've talked about, I thought about the pistons in my off season preview for them for the ethic that sometimes having a narrower set of options allows teams to make good decisions because they can't go crazy. We'll the bucks had narrow options and they just didn't maximize it. The books went into the offseason essentially right at the cap. And you mentioned the head Fulbright's under by Parker. They ended up signing Ersan Ilyasova who I think will help them. But I think there were other much better value contracts, especially considering Ilyasova. He's not gonna start for them a lot of guys who signed for less money and they could've offered playing a plane time as well. Even Genzyme at seventeen, not a huge fan of just generally what he is. I gotta watch some illegal little bit more closely Abune that as a slight negative though, just because he doesn't seem like that much of a modern player at that. There are other guys available there who could fit into what I believe this team can be. But you know if he ended up being good than chains that obviously I'm not downgrading them too much that selection. But you know, I mean. He's he's not texting me, but getting back to the point that they're coming right at the cap..

"Lines of what boot holes are wants for their team and some of the kind of foundational pieces that i think are worthwhile milwaukee if you clear out there pending agents and non guarantees other than malcolm brogdon who it's a lock that he's going to get his his third year nonguaranteed picked up if you so if you take all those you know terry and shabazz muhammad and jabari parker off day are about twenty one million under the luxury tax on and i think it is a fair assumption to make that milwaukee will not pay the luxury tax this year so the question is kind of how do you wanna use that twentyone million the most obvious way to do it would be with jabari parker is a restricted free agent you can just either be proactive and try to come to an offer you can match offer sheet or day could using a sign and trade or the middle level exception and a few other little little wrinkles they can try to use that money and allocated in a different way parker is really their only significant free agent of note they've anon guarantee you for tyler zeller next year they've got jason terry they've got shabazz muhammad just brandon jennings not guys are actually jennings is a nigerian t for next year so really does come down to parker and with essentially about eighteen million dollars in room between them and the tax they do have of course some superfluous salary out there john hinson makes ten point five million also we assume that they are going to get murtha to let each off of their books which could open up another three point five million or so in space after they stretched him so they'll be eligible to apply for that and hopefully will actually not hopefully 'cause i hope that mercer can just resume his career but likely will be able to with the lung issues that he's had be able to exclude that salary but you basically when you include just having some maneuvering room under the tax they also keep their draft pick which seventeenth this year they got about twenty million dollars to work with with jabari parker and but that's not the only issue with parker the other issue is they have some plans.

"Can hide bigs everywhere because they play like shabazz muhammad or barry parker they're just like a really sub optimal lineup do you think dragged rosena play against the sixers they make it that far i don't know but i think that also speaks to the difficulty in playing small ball right where it's easy on paper that'd be we're gonna play small with you know janos at the five but well what about the rest of our roster like that's not easy to necessarily build and i know you've written about those on the pass charges and like you're one hundred percent right about it there's a lot of big men in the league right there's a overflow of big man and maybe it's easier to find big men who are able to stay on the floor more so than some of these wings that can defend and shoot threes as you mentioned with the milwaukee like you can't have basma hamad out there because he can't shoot and you don't want to defend him even in other series across the league right now alpha roof amino is not being defended by the pelicans sometimes they're just staying off of him even though he's like a thirty three thirty four percent three point shooter and the weird thing about that series is that they're asking me new to kind of create off the dribble for some reason like lillard and mccullum have gotten so scared of the tactics that the pelicans are throwing it than that like you're seeing a menial on the wing take dribbles for like five seconds news like what is going on with this blazers offense right now they're completely rattled yeah they did sink to about a me new like you're looking at that series there saying we'll put a menial anthony davis it's not really working but terry stotts is going there same when the heat series and game through they put james johnston on joel embiid and like that didn't work either but these coaches are like my big evenly of good bigs unless you have like this elite apex predator big like embiid or davis they're like we'll give up some size and play small against them because a big can guard them either anyways do still need big men to neutralize those guys though i mean i don't think so.

"So your reaction to that right well it's i kind of had a feeling you might take that route because most people i think they just look at it and you see a top top six offense both tops offense is both top sixty fences i believe how breaks you kinda just draw parallels what is interesting about both those situations is is that yeah like mike malone and tom ditto really cut their teeth in defensive people that that is their calling card and neither of them has been able to figure it out what is interesting is they've both i think have done it in the name of trying to outscore people maybe you didn't say that as much with the wolves but the reason i would suggest is if you look at that tim show is also the president of basketball operations look at every move that he's made has been up not ever moved the other free agency signed have been offense ity motivated you mentioned jeff teague jamal crawford derrick rose resigned shabazz muhammad i mean those players are all clearly one dimensional as they all sands baas serve do serve allieu on the offensive end of the floor but so i guess i would push back a little bit and say i do think yeah the the main roster construction is there with the wolves but he hasn't done anything else to address roster construction so i think i think it's a lack of player development in minnesota and roster construction i think it'll be addressed this offseason or it should be i don't know.

"Maybe they incorporated third team to get the andrei jordan i think he got a look at them in the east with the cleveland than certainly boston as a team that can make some noise and a lot of people talk about toronto also they they played well star but we've seen kyle lowry in the more girls and have a schroeder's in the postseason so i think from milwaukee's vantage point odds certainly try to win now obviously made the in when we find reason kid year megan nap point inferred and you gotta show yanni as the you're competing and you can really make some noise in these on so that you know you maximizes you'd than his upcoming prime gather de plant him to watch i'm curious they would they do i think if they dillon's i'm like jadran now just be a lot of fun for basketball pans you know compile time so we'll see what happens there uh the minnesota timberwolves begin the playoffs they want to break their playoff drought they are obviously made big moves will be offseason are they standing pat or you know making minor moves i know we heard there was reported that shabazz muhammad is open who trade were asking for a trade deal deviating happens with the timberwolves or do they stand pat uh you know for minnesota uh the biggest thing that i took him away you know in talking guys around lease at gornji zhang is a guy that uh you can get you know what taj gibson store and um loves veterans obviously one thing to keep them on but that young core um has been supplemented well with guys like jimmy butler and uh taj gibson and jamal crawford ingest he i don't necessarily think that they make a move if they did i would assume it involves gorji jiang.

"But there's there's a lot of stuff that fundamentally i'd love to figure out exactly why it's gone so awry for that team the last couple of years yeah i think you're totally right that a lot of the innovations that he brought that made them so good defensively early in in the chicago days just are naturally not going to be as effective now now that a lot of people copied that defense across the league and then a lot of other teams changed the way that they played as a direct response to being able to kind of combat that defense and then the other thing is in a little bit of fairness to tibbs defensively i mean his roster you mentioned a lot of these guys it's filled with guys that have really bad defensive track records like wiggins towns who it's impossible to tell whether or not he's kind of just stalled out defensively since he was a rookie jeff teague long history of bad defensive metrics jamal crawford the same even somebody like shabazz muhammad who doesn't play that much but just a disaster defensively so he doesn't have that much to work with from the existing guys but you mentioned he brought in guys like uh jimmy butler and taj gibson those guys do have good defensive track record or maybe the most distressing thing is that tippytoe hasn't actually caused these guys to play better if you look at the top nine timberwolves the season by minutes per game only three of them so wiggins towns entice jones have a better defensive real plusminus this year than they did last year and wiggins was so terrible last year that it would have been hard pressed for him not to get better defensively this year and so it's it's it's not even necessarily that the players that he was given are bad defensive players but he's not making the kind of progress would that roster defensively that you would expect from a guy with that reputation okay so let's pause the barrage of questions now for a word from another sponsor and then we'll be right back with more rear questions.
