Matt Gaetz: Why Is He Being Investigated?

"Lots talk right now about florida. Representative matt gaetz. Why what is going on with matt. Gaetz matt gaetz seems to be in a lot of legal trouble is what's going on tonight. Florida congressman matt gates is defending himself amid reports. The justice department is investigating is alleged relationship with a seventeen year old girl. Investigators looking into the alleged relationship from two years ago whether gates possibly violated sex trafficking laws when he allegedly paid for travel and other expenses for the team all things. The republican strongly denies it as a horrible allegation and it is a lie. He's being investigated for payments. He may have allegedly made to women in exchange for sex in one case a woman who was under each seventeen years old in one sense. This is a pretty classic political sex scandal but the real reason it seems to have struck such a chord is that gates was one of the most bold outspoken defenders of former president donald trump who was of course plagued by scandal throughout his term in office gates was always there to say. Oh president trump was just being persecuted by the deep state. When robert muller leaves capitol hill. I think the american people will see that there was no collusion and there was oceans of bias and it turns out that the justice department has some questions for representative gates as well before we get into this sordid saga. We should just flag. That matt gaetz has not been charged with anything by anyone relating to the sex scandal correct. That's correct so. This is all stemming from a report initially in the new york times that gates was under investigation for perhaps having sex with a seventeen year old and for the payments to

The Masters: Justin Rose digs deep to regain lead

"Justin rose shoots an even par seventy two to maintain the lead here at augusta national. He's followed on the leaderboard by will Taurus and brian harman one shot back of the leader at six under par other. Notables on the leaderboard include jordan. Spieth at five under tony fee now in justin thomas are both at four under some superstars. Missed the cut friday including westwood rory mcilroy and defending masters champion dustin johnson. We'll discuss each of those players day coming up here on the podcast with. Nbc's jimmy roberts. The voice of masters digital justin rose was the thirty six hole leader once before here at the masters in two thousand four. The seventeen year gap of thirty six hole leads for him is the longest gap in masters history. But certainly rose hopes to finish a bit differently. This time around in two thousand four. He finished the master's tournament tied for twenty second and one other interesting nugget of information. There have only been five wire to wire masters champions ever jordan. Speak in two thousand fifteen. Raymond floyd in nineteen seventy six. Jack nicklaus in nineteen seventy-two arnold palmer in nineteen sixty and craig wood in nineteen forty one following his second round. Seventy two justin rose spoke with the media. Here's what he had to say thing. The thing is i was just joking. The fingers kind of heading towards the panic buying a little bit But did i talk myself on on eight. And said you know you still leading the masters and i just change my mindset a little bit and started to play matchplay against the golf course scratcher line on my scorecard and told myself as three down and could i go ahead and beat the golf course from that point on so i had a part in eighteen to win my match. "Drivers do percents of their charging. That's eight zero percent of their charging at home. There are over twenty two thousand charging stations on over sixty six thousand chargers across the united states and counting with more being installed every day. The new electric vehicles have a healthy amount of battery range. Some as much as three hundred fifty miles as i recall and the cars. Frankly are very very cool. I was at the dc. Auto show recently took a ride with a race car driver in an electric volvo sports car. That was way cool. There are electric and hybrid. Suv sedans sports cars et cetera. So what is holding it up. I'd like you to meet a woman who we hope can answer some of these questions kate. Sloan is the director of mobility at southern california edison. I met katie a few months ago at an electric drive transportation association forum. And i knew i had to have you meet her. Katie has been at southern california edison for about seventeen years if i read that right in her linked in profile and his knee deep electric vehicles. She earned her degrees in economics. Which is an interesting angle to approach this from both at her graduate undergraduate and master's degrees from new mexico state university welcome to green connections radio. Katie and thank you so much for joining us. Thank you john. I'm excited to be here. Oh you're welcome you're welcome so you focus on removing the barriers to electric vehicle adoption which assumes there's a big market for these vehicles but since most of us are not even be owners. What's your pitch to own one. That's a great question to start with. And i would say that. Electric vehicles are funded. Drive that is the number one reason that people should be thinking about purchasing them love to share a little story about my own personal experience and that is that my husband has always driven really large. Suv's and trucks his whole life and when we went car shopping a few years ago and we started looking at electric vehicles. I have to say that he was like probably the majority of folks saying that he was not very excited about purchasing an electric vehicle so much so that when we went to test drive one of the cars he refused to sit in the front seat and actually sat in the back with his arms folded

Associate of Matt Gaetz expected to plead guilty, lawyers say

"Today was a bad day in the life of florida. Republican congressman matt gates. And it has everything to do with. This guy might recognize him. his name is joel greenberg. We've kind of just met him in the media at least he is the former seminole county tax collector in florida. One of the reasons he no longer holds that position is because he was indicted and later charged with a slew of counts tied to stalking illegally obtaining personal information identity theft wire fraud and sex trafficking of seventeen year old girl and it was that sex trafficking investigation into job greenberg as nbc news in other outset reported that led to the separate justice department investigation of congressman matt gates for possible sex trafficking of seventeen year old. Today in orlando florida. There was a status conference and greenberg's case where his lawyers as well as prosecutors said the greenberg who had previously pleaded. Not guilty is now expected to plead guilty. According to the new york times greenberg is likely to face. Twelve years in prison and legal experts. Said that mr greenberg had any hope of reducing that sentence you would have to cooperate with the justice department. It is not for certain he's going to play and cooperate but it does well. That could be extremely bad. News for one matt gaetz. Here's joe greenberg's lawyer. Today does mccain's have anything to worry about. Does matt gaetz. That is such a What happened court have. And you're asking me to get into the mind of bolt from your mind for my based on what your plant based on. What much package. Because he kept on talking. Matt Gaetz Is Said to Face Justice Dept. Inquiry

"Such a skis. That's how one campaign staffer described congressman matt gates after learning about the lurid accusations for which the florida republican is now being investigated. The justice department is looking into whether gates had a sexual relationship with a minor and paid for her to travel with him. Nbc news reports. At gates's communications director abruptly quit quote of quote out of principle. It's not clear what the principal is here but the daily beast reports that republicans have been waiting for years for a matt gaetz scandal daybreak. Why we'll see an end reports a gates used to show nude photos of women. He claimed to have slept with two colleagues on the floor of the united states house of representatives and business insight report. The gates took part in a game that scored female sexual conquests while he was a member of the florida. Legislature matt gaetz is denied that he's ever paid for sex or sexual relationship with a minor. He's not been charged in. The investigation is ongoing joining us. Now is matt fuller. Senior politics editor for the daily beast and cynthia ox me a former federal prosecutor who specialized in sex crime. She's an msnbc legal analyst. Cynthia joining us on the phone. Matt you have been reporting on the story or at least following this story for a long time and you suggested that we'd seen nothing yet. Yeah i think we've got a glimpse of maybe the endgame of this a little bit last night when the new york times reported that The justice department probe might be centered around basically a sex trafficking ring with this friend of his Joel greenberg Florida republican tax collector. On seminal county is insane story. This is a very serious very serious allegations Mckay has denied almost everything here. He keeps saying he's never had sex with a seventeen year old. Last time he had sex with a seventeen year old he was seventeen.

I know why it was leaked to destroy. Matt gets because all you're going to see. Is that big headline. So gets himself. Goes on television which i think was a mistake and puts forth his side of the story. What he should have done was had an attorney with him the he i don't mind him i should say don't mind. It's effective for. Someone accused to give his or her side of the story. But you should have attorney with you. Who can supply data. Okay gets into that should but one of the reporters for the new york times shows up on. Msnbc of course and says this go basically destroying in blowing up the fbi investigation which is in itself. Something you would think would be against on interest. You would think that he would be wanting to work with the fbi and you would think he would want to keep this quiet. That's just so disingenuous woods. She destroyed the fbi investigation that reporter and two others. She broke that story based upon an anonymous tip so now she saying on. Msnbc lester holt. "Feeling great it's a beautiful day there's no fires there's no fires it's clear it is beautiful I still have herbs and tomatoes growing in my garden what I know well late harvest number twenty fourth in my yeah it's great we haven't had any rain we're gonna get some rain next week yeah yeah while probably on things is a late fall that's okay what he doing for thanksgiving I just with the family the same thing as the brother about a ham and and a couple of turkeys because we got the whole family coming over full house full house I love that yeah and of course tonight is a big celebration because our forty nine and we have a split with home can't wait forty Niners plants and a football gets the Green Bay Packers in our seventeen year olds a Packer I don't understand why he has it ever been to Chicago it does cause them in their life no in fact I don't understand I'm going to break him of the habit yeah I was promised to take in Lambeau field some December yes please one of the frozen tundra and quality below probably the changes the if you knew that's what he would have to deal with the go to one of those kids it's pretty funny but anyway it'll be a fun game today yeah so let's take a call what do what do you think we should talk to about John in Indianapolis he went to Prague he called you for going to Prague dot sees calling to report back on how that went I want to hear thank you so much Kim hello John Leo laporte the tech guy so how are you how was your visit to to Praha it was it was fantastic the weeds were starting to change for all and one too cold looking to warm it was just it was it was great so they they they're fantastic city to walk around and everything is very cheap see mia well and I hope you had severe because it's an excellent beer there too it helps keep the beer was you can buy a bottle of beer for roughly forty steps wow while so refresh my memory you wanted to bring your echo two on your trip with you yeah I was I was called in to inquire about taking my echo dot because that's what I use at home for my alarm clock I'll use it to listen to streaming music you have to listen to your podcast a streaming so you're you're you're all in on the on the echo sphere as they say yeah I've I've got I've got four of them in my in my place while so I yes I wanted took one and I I had a connected to my travel router yeah I went ahead and as suggested by you went through to reconfigure the dot and told it that it was going to be located and the Czech Republic and had no issues whatsoever it knew what time it was so there wasn't any issue of being an eastern right now many sometimes okay doesn't it doesn't have enough circuitry to say where am I I don't think I mean it might but I don't think and so that's in the Amazon echo app on your phone you can say what time zone where you could actually see what address here at and so that's probably a good thing to do and then if you were able to hear news and stuff I didn't hear news without a problem I was able to look into streaming music I could I could listen to podcasts sometimes all fall asleep to at night and it works just like it did back but does here in the US you did the experiment so I didn't have to because honestly I'm with you I'm kind of I really love my my voice enabled assistance whether its the echo or that Google and I really love the idea of taking a with me I mean it's my alarm clock right at home well it now and I've got a little drawstring bag I could throw that in there with the travel router in the in the cable that it needs and and it works just fine and I also tried it on the wifi there without the travel letter to see if I had my travel weather set up you use use VPN yeah so that's actually kind of cool because now you pair you can while you're at frankly at home you compare your echo to that router and so it'll it won't know that it's in some strange country it'll thing well this is my router now I think what though that that you would not know what time it was so I had to go through to reconfigure to tell so it is looking you okay interesting service telling the time when I went back in and has the device okay I told that I am located in in Czech Republic but a lot of the music and things like that which I was concerned maybe wouldn't stream too I didn't seem to have any issues being in a different country with a like it was also I tried it on just the free wifi within the the Airbnb I was staying to see if I mean what happened then when when you had the local wifi what did that do I did not have any problems I will say I I didn't I didn't listen to a lot of streaming music at that point but I wasn't listening to podcasts at that point knows you're in the Czech Republic right well that's good know that I didn't mess it up right no yes it's it's it works it works fantastic for me over there so that was at work and was it with a past Hey now the next question is which which echo to bring with you because the dots original dot speakers and great which one do you have so I've got the now what so I've got three the dots and I've got one the the larger do you have this the hard plastic outsider the kind of fabric at so I've got three of the heart of the hockey puck yep the hard plastic and then I've got a taller which could lead where has the better internal speaker right that's why I have my bedroom I think that's I took a little small one small yeah yeah third generation dot supposedly sounds better.

"Sexual misconduct. It's not known who Cavanaugh is meeting with right now. He did put out a new statement today calling it a completely false allegations of federal judge saying he has never done anything like what the accuser describes to her or to anyone and is utterly unknowable the truth on either side, or if it's somewhere in the middle and will never be known. That's the problem that even if it's true. What do we do as a nation going forward? If this would derail him how you ever gonna get anybody through. Based on the standard of something's stupid. You did as a drunk seventeen year olds story about something that happened decades ago, a one person account can keep you off the supreme court how anybody ever end up on the supreme court because you always have an opposition party. You always have an opposition to whoever it is either Democrats or Republicans really don't want that person on the court, right? Don't always come up with something. Yeah. Well, yeah. This is so complicated. We talked about it at length earlier in the show. You lived a little different lifestyle than I did in high school. You know, I was in urban area. And I was always kind of a rule tester and rebel and the rest of it. Amazing. I know. But I am absolutely certain that if I were to see a videotape of a drunk seventeen year old me I would disavow and be disgusted by virtually every.

"That they're so much of like well look what he looks like like people marry the twins and we're supposed to believe that because you know they're the same way to the same you know the the add up to like each other i don't believe have people who say they like each other guys together for seventeen years what's the difference between another seventeen year relationship i mean i i just feel like it's unusual to see the size difference but the thing is rough was a good looking man he had a very handsome face and i was i never like i said i never believed that he would not lose the weight in fact he he proposed to me for years like leading up to a marriage he proposed every month i forget how many times this is something that he talked about over the years publicly i think it was like every month for like six years he proposed and at the end of it and every time he would ask me to marry might say i want to be with you or whoever i'm with for my entire life and you don't want to be on this earth with for as long as i'm to be i'm going to be an old woman one day i want my husband to be with me for as long as possible and you're not committed to that and therefore i'm not going to accept this proposal and we would have that same conversation every month and then he had the gastric bypass and he lost quite a bit of weight and the last also going to some sort of therapy because like you said no and on and off but it made you feel positive like this is the force change the rest might come his scar that they had they had to that they cut on him to give him the bypass they also did some skin removal at the time so they move like this whole pants call like a panel it's like a whole chunk of skin it's around the stem yeah it's like when you've lost weight or you put on weight in the stomach skin stretches in hand remove that so he had a scar across his middle that if you stood up right it's almost as tall as i am as almost five feet like the the scar and so the last time he proposed me he said look i have i literally hunkin sagztly what is that i was gutted like a catfish is that not prove to you enough my desire to beat this i want to be with you forever please will you marry me and i said okay and that was the last time he proposed them we got married and i didn't wanna get married and then the day we got married i was completely altered and i was like i love being a wife and at that point on my focus shifted from being know kind of having my own career my own thing to being more focused on what whatever was best for the family structure which was his career because his career was doing rate at the time he'd all he had just done last comic standing and he was so now it was focused more on his career where we could make more money together with him working and then within a year we had our daughter or were pregnant so was he waiting for the weather no kids until you're married no kids to remarry will was the big thing also for for him he wanted to have kids well i wouldn't have had it out with him had i not married no i mean because of the rest of your life thing because the kid is the rest of your life it's kind of getting married or you don't want.

"Going on somewhere behind the scenes this is too coincidental how does this work well there's definitely collusion which is what you're referring to get started it's like a hell broth of different factors i like you said you have to have a problem or an incident that fits their narrative and coupled with sources who are willing to talk and we all know everybody there is more than willing to talk and then you have to have reporters who are damn you're willing to suspend reality to get their point across or to at least at the very minimum suppress their ethics to do what they shouldn't do and you combine that with a lack of editorial oversight or no adult supervision nobody's gonna say no that's you're you're you're missing the mark here and that's how these things happen i mean look at any of the talking heads right now on cnn in their coming comments that they're making about president trump look at the choices of words they're using in the stories anybody with a bias that should be pulled off the story and she never be able to talk about president trump again but that's what they do and and you're getting back to immigration where you went with this that is such a complex issue mark as you well know i mean it is beyond description it is a complex thing that this country has been dealing with for decades i it's it's difficult for me to fathom it's difficult for our reporters to get a handle on it's certainly something that no seventeen year old kid is capable of understanding dude that's david hog this kid knows it all and i'm glad that the left has them on their side so that he can explain the problem of immigration like no one else can boy i'm telling us kids amazing this kid is this gives like super genius man we need a kid like that who knows everything man earth has been looking for somebody like this hey america earth this is the kneel before zahed guy right he can he can take on kryptonite dude when i was his age i was getting ever eleven hell beat out of me at fort benning georgia and i quickly realized how little i knew about anything you didn't have the media in your face true loving all over you because you were spitting an antigun unamerican hateful message rhetoric in enabling me enabling you and i by the way i am guilty i am a breaking rule number one in the studio drinking a carbonated coca cola ooh i'm okay don't don't don't fear have no fear we can continue it was just that one took a deep breath you know rules are then we rules are meant to be broken brother it's real coca cola to it ain't no diet so there's a real one man real and it's funny because the only way you can get a real one that has real sugar in it is from mexico oh yeah it's can in it's ice cold and it's really really really good i haven't had one in so long today i felt like you know what echo and mexico i'm gonna have a real made in mexico coca cola so i got one of the local exxon station but what this mentality though to close out on this topic we'll we'll close out this segment with because it is an important topic we witness it there's it's a phenomenon it's almost like what causes a traffic jam or a pile up for miles and miles and miles and all of the sudden the brake lights and there was no cause for there was no traffic people who studied this stuff for years trying to figure out how it happens their responses it's normally guess what somebody taps their breaks it a particular moment in time and you know five thousand people in a lineup behind him wind up doing the same thing and it causes a chain reaction from miles that slows four five six lanes of traffic outside a major city you know anything about george area it happens all day every day but there there tends not to be a a.
