Broncos Finalizing Deal to Make Pat Shurmur New Offensive Coordinator
"Well we just talk to my class are brokers insider who told us that the deal is done with that tactic Schirmer to be the new see for the Denver Broncos official press release from the team hopefully coming sometime before the end of the week big al with Schirmer being the new offense of coordinator what do you see as the pros and cons for this this young this young offense with the very young rookie quarterback is gonna be going into your to what I'm looking for are the things that that you can give a team and that's easy to roles and I always talk about this because I believe that that's the key to winning football games in this league how can you create an easy throw a one on one getting the guy wide open like we saw Devine to Adam's last night plan for the Packers you know the Packers go with the heavy formation they run a play that look like it's going to be a post but it then it turns into a corner is a seven right and then you look up and you say all my goodness the guy has a football it's one on one coverage he makes one guy miss and any out runs the coverage that's it easy to roll okay it's not fit the ball in the window it's not a drop back play act soon getting a guide you know own a seventeen yard dig route it's none of those things it's making the girls that the good players make to wide open guys but you have to design those plays for those guys to be wide open and the quarterback shouldn't be surprised when a wide open and when they're not wide open take the ball and run it that's what the good teams in the NFL do that's how you win football games in this business by getting your quarterback easy throws that you can feel good about and we didn't do that especially not against the Kansas City Chiefs are we rich gang real and I hate to see guys getting fired trust me it's it's not it's it's you know nobody wants to see that I wish there was a way that he could have stayed on and work with the quarterbacks something of that nature but maybe it's maybe it's too muddy if he's in Rome but you know it just we just have to have a change in and once again the greatest throws in the NFL aren't necessarily the ones that are forty M. fifty yards down the field like we saw this weekend but we also saw we also saw Patrick my homes we were out to the running back I think it was Williams out of the backfield on what looked like to be a six star pass it ended up being a seventeen yard touchdown the design of the play against the covers that was played was perfect and the guy had a free run to the end zone I mean those are the plays that you expect out of a great offensive coordinator and that's certainly what I'm looking forward Pat Shurmur who spent a lot of time with Andy Reid and Philadelphia I take it I think he was there for at least ten seasons with Andy Reid going from offense of line coach tidy and coats two quarterbacks coach so he understands the offense it's complete and of course in that Minnesota offense that's what we have to go last because that's where he was calling plays exclusively you look at that team and what they were able to do and the way that they brought on Adam Thielen out of no where to become a star well you know that he understands what kind of receipt what the receivers need to look like and not how they need to run there are so many different ways that we can look at this as be an improvement to be an improvement to what we had last year in part of it believe it or not Joe Joe is evaluating players for the upcoming draft that's a big big part of it because trust me there is a common formula to run in this offense and really make it work Stefon Diggs is the guy that blows the doors off of the defense is for the Minnesota Vikings before we and you look at back at Pat Shurmur when he was with Andy Reid it was the son Jackson now what is a in to read as he has he'll explosive wires see what to add to re kill who blows the doors off so I'm almost guaranteed you I'm almost guaranteeing you were going to find a guy that can blow the doors off of the defense in round one or two of this year's NFL draft that's how you make that all things work do you have a guy that can a workhorse guy who can catch the balls and make it happen that's called sudden but we need one of those guys that is scary says that blows the doors off the defense the evaluation process of what that guy looks like I trust Pat Shurmur more than I do John Elway to

"Maybe where the Stephens isn't gonna think you're gonna run, you know, I saw I watched the Philly Rams game a couple of weeks ago, and they ran on draw play on third and four there for like eighteen yards because in that situation they had their nickel defense on the field. Philly spread everyone out. There was just a three-man defence align Donald sue. And I think it was foul at the time. And they gassed them, you know, they just mantle man had on hat double team Donald pulled pulled one of their tackles at blocked sue out of the play in. There was seventeen yards there for Darren sproles to take. I think that that's going to be. Key is. Yeah, I hate running on second long. But if you can spread that defense out on second seven or second eight and then run that draw play or maybe even incorporate that quarterback, you know, sweep the QB draw the QB power those are ways that I think that you can really make that run game affective without running the ball thirty two times. Because like I said, if if you're a run thirty times, you're you're you know, you're you're giving up your giving up what you're trying to do. And I think that anyone in the NFL that knows how to play defense can adjust to that and say, we're just gonna let you run it right into our teeth for three or four yards then punt or kick field goals, and the we're going to get the ball back and score. So I don't want to don't want to run in a brick wall. That's all I don't want him to do agree. It everything you just said there as far as you don't wanna be stubborn. I don't think you can be stubborn or one dimensional against like, I said Wade Phillips defense. He kind of mentioned teams have had to throw the ball more than run. Because the Rams are so prolific on the offensive side that you can't just on run the football. But this is a game. I like what you said about running back in the I think this game. He got the you'd is his legs of it. More on getting second guessing at dome, not not make them think twice about committing to Zee on some zone reads and things of that nature. Saw a little bit of down the stretch against Seattle in it in at word to me deck. He's a guy that can run the football on Emec plays with his legs. We've seen it his rookie season. So info career he did a minute name for himself on that collegiate low. He's a guy that can do do you what him taking taint fifty years? Ain't no. But some here, and there I think in open this off until bit more in maybe in. As a result dole. Get some zeke's. Open running lanes gets to passing lanes over the middle to open up and things of that. And I think that could really hope is help this team moot..

"Just to recap it. It was the forty plus yard run that eventually set up the touchdown on the Prescott throw to make it ten six and then to make it seventeen fourteen. I met said it was the other Zeke run I meant to say it was a a throw Tamari Cooper that one for thirty plus yards. That was that was the big play. And then after that Zeke also had at one like sixteen seventeen yard run when it was a seventeen fourteen to set up eventually if being a twenty four to fourteen had an eye stiff arm down the right side. But we go to you on the phones right now as we talk Cowboys. We talk. Colts. You wanna talk about the games that are coming up in a few hours. We could do that. Let's go to Cody and Redding, California, and I'm a man code. He's going to be very happy after his Cowboys get a victory yesterday. Cody what's going on brother? Uh-huh. Man. I am chilling like a family on penicillin. I you. I know you're pumped up because you're cockroach Cowboys. They got a victory yesterday. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Hey, I'll take it all take the cockroach Cowboys client as long as they keep on winning. You'll be more than fine with that. But the way they play defense the way Zeke runs the football with that punishing style. And Dax showed up. That's a that's a formula to win in this league. Especially this time of the year. Well. I wouldn't exactly say. Dax showed up I would say he showed up he made a couple of big plays on the ground or third down with his legs. Well, that's exactly what I mean. Like when you when you watch stack and the game yesterday. You don't sit there and go. Wow. What you're going to get. You don't look at him and say, wow, that's a great quarterback. But he threw a beautiful ball right before the end of the first half that fourteen play was tough as you could bay. And he put his body on the line for you know, the big play. So you got to respect that in and the one mistake he made which wasn't even a terrible mistake. Just the ball got to up it. Intercepted took a bad bounce. They survived. It. Yeah. The the interception. I really wouldn't put too much on him. Same. I don't know if he was Wagner, right one of those linebackers. He made the play play you bobbled it four times and still caught his. So you gotta cedar Catholic there. The thing is, you know. Back deck, and he is what he is. And I think you kind of know what to expect. So the fact that he only turned it over once in that one term turnover. Like, I said was a little, you know, little e suspect I was awesome with that. So the thing was that we really really really committed to running the football. And I think our team needs to do right now. We're gonna lose lose giving it to your best player one hundred sixty nine total yards today. All purpose. You know, we're throwing him the ball in the backfield giving it to get into space. Yeah. I love that. Now, I'm not one of those crazy Cowboys fans who's gonna come out and be like. The Super Bowl, you know, Jerry Jones a bit. You know, I'm not one of those people. I I understand the realms of the league. And I understand where we are at in that hierarchy at the league. I don't think we're gonna win next week. If we played the saints. I'm hoping we'll play the Rams I think we actually have a better chance against the Rams. I'm with the on that as well. Because golf is now playing that while in that defense could do a number on golf, even though they do have a lot of other talented pieces and in LA in LA. There will be more Cowboys fans. No question. I I've seen the eagles go out to L. And that's a home game for the eagles. Can I give you one last thing? Real quick. Yeah. I think regardless of who we play. I mean like you said you don't have a PHD in football to understand trouble. He's got to run the football. Well, take care of the clock and not turn the ball over. And we should be okay. Nice. The saints will be very very tough. I don't think win against the saints. We play the Rams I think we have a good chance, but regardless of the Cowboys fan after starting out three and five we talked all year Zach next crazy. Crazy for you guys. I I am happy where we are at right now. But I'm not satisfied that I am half as you should be. But here's my thing with deck if they're down and they're going to have to throw the football more than they run. It is going to be able to make the big throws. And then also when you go up against the team, let's say you get New Orleans the next week, if you go up against the Orleans, and I know they beat New Orleans this year. But if it turns into a shootout is dad going to step up to the occasion because I think he's good in small doses. When you get a lot of Dacca. I don't think it's very good for the Dallas Cowboys Zeke is their bread and butter. Let's go to Chris in Boston. Chris good morning. Go ahead. Won't exactly I I like the Coulter liked watching the game. Especially after the. The game where quarterback there came back and said, you know, what they're improving swag their heart rate. Now the team is pretty well balanced. I really liked the coach coming out of the AFC. And and I stick with my early season pick the bears, I really like to bear lake Trubisky. Cohen and defense. So that's why pick you have a great. We're still the week. Take it easy. Appreciate it. Chris. Always. Thanks. Check it in the culture. Hey when you went in the wildcard round, you look you'll good you're going to be a popular pick there. It's not gonna be easy going to Kansas City. But the advantage. They have is that they have a defense in Kansas City defense right now. And there's no doubt about the colts our hot team. But I think you need to show up more consistently. They got up to that Twenty-one. They offense kinda took a step back and do anything after that. He had to play a full sixty minutes in the playoffs. But yes, the colts once again, they're playing with house money right now. And it's dangerous when you're in the postseason, you're playing with house money. There's no pressure on you Brad in Dallas, Texas. Go ahead. Brad. Hey, how you doing man? I talked to you yesterday about dead. Like you like you guys were saying we know exactly what we're going to give with deck small doses. He's good. When the game he's a game or man. And that my thing though, my main thing is looking at how they play Seattle for what three and a half quarters. They had like negative eight passing yards in the first quarter. It was it was great. I really was. Now, they they had some big plays Seattle early in that first half the two or three big plays in the first half. But overall when you're going up against Russell Wilson. And we look at the two guests that had the other day Dwight free, Mike single, Terry. Mike secretary said he would love to go up against Russell Wilson because it'd be a chess match, and then he talked freely talked about how tough it is to contain them the Cowboys stadium. They're lanes they contain them. And they didn't really let him beat him. Now. It also helps when the offensive coordinator didn't throw the ball more than he probably should have. But hey, that's that's not the Cowboys fault. The Cowboys that a nice job. Always having a guy on early on. Following deck? A following Russell Wilson around and they did a nice job up against that's defense. We know that they're they're capable of doing that. But to actually see it and see that guy be not that effective is very impressive, right? My my favorite play the game was at third and fourteen with your Cowboy's fan, and and that happens and he puts his body on the line. If you like Dallas, you should love it because that's a quarterback will do whatever it takes to to put the game away. Now, I'll say this. I didn't love that. When it's a ten point game twenty four to fourteen then the one time the Cowboys defense, they did not show up as one. There was some money on the line. 'cause I the Cowboys minus two and a half and it ended up being twenty four twenty two. So hey, the Cowboys defense was great up until that final drive for the Seahawks. And then, hey. The kicking situation ended up screwing the spread because the kicker got hurt and they had to go for to all the time. So if you had some coin in the game not that good of an ending, and it looked pretty positive the entire way. Once they took the lead over at seventeen fourteen Robin. Pittsburgh, rob go ahead. All right, man. How great, Yup. I'm a be a little bit quicker get cut off here because of the listening. I think actually both teams habitat Angela place quarterback like a frigate linebacker. I love the way he plays. I mean, he's exciting. There is a plan at a good clip right now. Think I'm biased on the Cowboys fan. But I think we have a good chance to win like your previous caller said if we're messed up against the Rams, I liked that match up a lot better than trying to go to home and drew out and beating them. That's the one tough thing though. Because if you beat the Rams most likely will be waiting for you next week. So you got to beat the Rams and the saints. You would hope someone give you a break in and maybe take down the same spot. I think it's gonna be tough to beat the saints this year in their own house. I really believe that too. But I think if Nick foles gimme a just a little bit of that magic last year and get the job done. I think we can have them if. That's what you know. You're really talking crazy. When cowboy fans are rooting for eagles. Windass? The is ruined Puerto Brownlow. Did it work out? So hey, appreciate the phone. Call Robin, Pittsburgh and make sure you drive safe. I when we come back at Sunday stocks who stock is booming in the sports world dooming. But I just latest CBS sports update with Justin shackle. Sports play. Raiders craft a day to remember in a season to forget
"You're listening to the spoken edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. Raiders crafted data remember in a season to forget by an Killian, call it. The revenge of the Coliseum every raiders game in Oakland. Feels like a week these days one final farewell to the memories in the moments that have filled Oakland Raiders history with most of the recent ones being largely forgettable for much of Sunday. It looked like game thirteen of the woeful twenty eighteen season was going to be just another whole home losing affair until the Coliseum rose up and said it shall not be. So that this was raiders versus Steelers, dammit for probably the very last time in Oakland, and it was going to be memorable. So after the raiders took the lead with twenty one seconds to play on a touchdown pass from Derek Carr, Derek carrier. And after the Steelers got into position to tie the game. Thanks to a forty three yard, hook and lateral. The old building. And it seeping innards went to work. Sunday's game took place in a chilling December ground fog that cast the Coliseum in gloom slicked the cracked concrete and suck moisture to the surface of the field. It was slippery out there Oakland running back. Jalen, Richard said, I was slipping it's always slippery. Here said tight end Jared cook, Pittsburgh kicker Chris Boswell trotted onto the field for the game tying field goal. Try planted his left leg and as he swung back. His right to kick his plant leg gave out from under him leaving dark Divet in the grass and the raiders filled with joy the raiders had won. They beat their historic rival, Pittsburgh twenty four twenty one for just their second win at home this year and third overall in the midst of the uproarious celebration on the field head coach Jon Gruden ran down to the black hole to high five the fans, it was the type of image that all the citizens of raider nation had in there. Minds when they got the news in January the Gruden was returning to Oakland. But there's been precious little to celebrate. I went to see my old friends all grownup Gruden said we're to in ten actually three in ten after the win. I wanted to thank them. It was an awesome seen today. I appreciate their support. They've been with us. No matter what it wasn't awesome seen black and silver mixed with black and gold. There might never have been so many opposing fans in the Coliseum for raiders game. Every play resulted in a roar from about half the crowd. I was surprised raiders receiver. Seth Roberts said I didn't know they traveled like that. Oh, they do the forty Niners can vouch for that. The Pittsburgh fans whose EM was dampened when quarterback Ben Roethlisberger went out with a rib injury and the offense stalled he came back in the game to orchestrate one. Go ahead. Touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter. And then got the team into field goal position with. That remarkable lateral play. But then the Coliseum rose up and did its work and rothlisburger exited without having one in Oakland leaving with an Owen four record. So Big Ben what were the field conditions like out there? Terrible. He said, but we knew that coming in. I shouldn't say terrible. I'm sorry. That's the wrong word the conditions weren't ideal. But our offensive coordinator Randy Fitch ner had addressed it all week and preached it every day to the offense. He said to make sure you have the right shoes. You saw how many times guys slipped out there? I think they might have slipped even more than we did Boswell said he's been using the same cleats since he'd been in Pittsburgh with seems a little crazy given the different conditions. Every NFL field offers, you can't blame anything Boswell said. It's his bad as it is for me as it is for anyone else. The kicker slippage is not going to go down in history with the immaculate reception or other great. Moments in the history of the two teams, but it gave fans a fun outcome in a woeful season. And the woes have continued the raiders are in position for the number three draft choice who will be making the decision. There was a story Sunday morning that general manager Reggie McKenzie would be departing the team after the season all the principles MacKenzie Gruden and owner Mark Davis, no commented on the story, which wasn't exactly groundbreaking. The assumption has been from the moment Gruden arrived and only reinforced as the season has unschooled that McKenzie would be on his way out sooner or later the players who MacKenzie drafted and that Gruden traded also were in the New Sunday receiver Amari Cooper had three touchdowns for Dallas including the game winner in overtime and two hundred seventeen yards on ten catches. The Cowboys are ready to put him in their ring of honor right now and Khalil Mack helped the bears beat the Rams on Sunday night football. A spot the Steelers raiders matchup got flexed out of partially because of max increased starpower. Meanwhile, the raiders sit tied for the worst record in the league with one game left in Oakland this season and ten thousand question marks about their status next season. The building is falling down around them on Sunday night, a janitor discovered to dead mice in the soda machine. In the press box, the one that dozens of people had been using to pour their drinks all day truth what a place, but on Sunday, it gave raiders fans at least one more memorable moment. A win courtesy of the dank damp Coliseum.
Big Game memories: 25 years later, Cals Lindsey Chapman recalls 4-TD day
"You're listening to the spoken edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. Big-game memories. Twenty five years later. Cows Lindsay Chapman recalls four touchdown day by Steve kroner from sports to running back. Share the Cal record for touchdowns and big game with four Chuck Muncie. Did I and the bears forty eight to fifteen route at Stanford Stadium in nineteen seventy five the following year New Orleans selected Muncie with the third overall pick in the NFL draft he wound up spending nine seasons in the NFL. The man who tied his big game. Mark Lindsay Chapman didn't play a down in the NFL. But on a nineteen Ninety-three Saturday afternoon at Stanford Chapman put his name next two. As in the Cal record book Chapman carried twenty eight times for one hundred forty one yards and scored a TD in each quarter as the bears waltz to a forty six to seventeen victory. Cow had gone six seasons. Five losses and the final tie in the nineteen nineteen and nineteen eighty eight with. Thout holding the axe. That wasn't the only thing fueling Chapman against the cardinal. When asked this week about that victory a quarter century ago Chapman. I referenced the guardsman's luncheon, which took place at San Francisco's firm aunt hotel, the Wednesday before the game, the annual charity event brought together the head coach and a few players from each school MC, Bob Sarlat. A Cal alum typically took good natured digs at both teams. Chapman was one of the players representing Cal. And he admits heat didn't realize the luncheon was something of a roast still he thought Sarlat and Stanford head coach Bill wash went too far in maligning the bears one wash line. He said he didn't understand all the hoopla about the acts and that Cal can always go out and buy one, I left there pretty heated. I left that luncheon very very upset. It kind of set the tone Chapman said two years earlier Chapman said he and his teammates felt the same type of disrespect before they met. Clemson in the Citrus Bowl. He said the Tigers didn't feel that we were good enough opponent. Cal was good enough to beat Clemson thirty seven to thirteen I felt that same irritation. When I went at lunch and Chapman said and they were talking about us like that. And like, we weren't even in the room. So that was the fuel that fired at all the night before the big game. The bears were out there Palo Alto hotel. Chapman remembers go into a players only meeting and telling some of the bears offensive linemen that they didn't need to block their men. The next day. They simply had to get in front of them Chapman recalled saying because all you guys in here. I'm gonna put you on my back, and I'm going to carry us to the promised land. I promise you that promise kept Chapman scored his first touchdown on seventeen yard pass from quarterback. Dave barr. Chapman's final three TD's came on runs. After scoring the first touchdown second. Touchdown third. Touchdown. And even the fourth Chapman said, I just had a whole lot of pent-up anger inside of me. Thanks to Bill wash. I really really really wanted to make sure that we brought the axe back. Cal got the axe and Chapman got a different type of. Veneer that he's kept for twenty five years chunks of the Stanford Stadium field that he put in a plastic bag. He had grabbed those chunks in the bears postgame celebration the locker room was just effervescent Chapman recalls. Everybody was just hugging. All over each other. Dear Slater Chapman, got to meet Muncie. Their connection went beyond the cow, backfield Chapman grew up in Louisiana and was a fan of the saints. It was special to me to actually get a chance to meet him being a part of a cow family Chapman said Muncie died at the age of sixty in twenty thirteen Chapman lives in Oakland and works as the northern California regional safety manager for helix electric. He also coached running backs at Chevy college for the past four seasons. The victory over Stanford in ninety three gave Cal seven two four record the bears finished nine two four as they won forty two to eighteen at Hawaii the Saturday after the big game. And then humbled Iowa thirty seven to three in the inaugural. Alamo bowl Chapman. Ran for one thousand. Thirty seven yards that season. And by the way, he also scored four TD's in that victory in Honolulu.
On Warriors ride and Raiders road
"You're listening to the spoken edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. On warriors, ride and raiders road. All the news that fits the bottom of the birdcage by Scott, Osler what the warriors must do. Now is twisted the narrative, so. What the warriors must do. Now is twisted the narrative, so the so called turmoil and discord is all in the minds of critics in haters and the attackers only strengthened the warriors team bond. Draymond green is the perfect man to lead this counterattack. This has been bothering me and admittedly. I'm not strong on payroll economics. The raiders have three first round draft picks. First rounders, get hefty contracts won't signing three first rounders forced the raiders to scrimp on the rest of their roster. The Mavericks are a lottery team, but I fear any team that has shooting coach who can raise the Andre Jordan's free-throw percentage from fifty eight last season two eighty two. Now that weird update in my column speculating that DeMarcus cousins might be a better fit for the warriors. And Kevin Durant. If it's one or the other I should have noted that even if Durant leaves it's doubtful. The warriors could resign cousins. He would have to accept a. Token, raise to six point four million dollars at least ten million under his projected market value. But the fun talking point remains the thirties must alert the ravens that a quarterback who runs will not work in today's NFL rookie quarterback. Lamar Jackson ran twenty seven times for one hundred seventeen yards Sunday in the ravens win Jackson. Didn't take a knee during the anthem. So he likely will remain employed. Hey, raiders, if the Coliseum doesn't work out for you next season. Why not take your show on the road? "Because I said, it's his fault. But at the same time, I that's what you have. Let's go to the receivers. Now Antonio Brown. He finished five receptions one hundred seventeen yards. A lot of that yards came on that seventy eight yard touchdown pass average twenty three point four yards per catch. He had a touchdown thirteen targets headed his way. How do you great? Antonio Brown's day, Lance. Antonio Brown too. The percentage is very low in this game. I know you're going to get Jalen Ramsey, and they missed a couple of opportunities wants to. In fact, I called the double move ju you talking to my dad at that time. And I was saying this is double move because of the press coverage on the outside. It was uneven game by AB, but he did make a bit play when they needed some gonna give Abia too. I'm gonna go to half because I agree with what you said there are a couple passes. I felt he thought a little bit harder to at least try to break them up. That's just one of those situations whereas receiver sometimes you have to play defense. And you know, what he made a big play when it mattered. I thought the biggest play of the game wasn't the touchdown that might sound crazy. But it was after James Connors drop in the fourth quarter on the game winning drive. It was the past that little seam route Brown rub route. Vance McDonald got a good chip on. Jalen Ramsey going across the middle. Takes him down to the two yard line that finish. It was a huge play huge catch and run. I liked to offer Brown. But like you said two and a half Ed to me this kind of goes back to Ross burgers day. I felt in Lancet comment here if you agree or disagree. I felt it Ross burger when things were going haywire. And there were times with talk of collapsing. He's moved around. He went back into two thousand seventeen Ben and his eyes went right? Eighty four every time that. It can happen not against defends like this. Did you see that as well? Or did you think that's just kind of happenstance of where they were where he was being rushed from etc. No, I agree. I thought he was forcing some throws. And I thought the throat a picked in the end zone. Eight be the ball placement. Was that as well? And that broke. But I thought he was forcing stuff to AB and thought he was taking some chances that he didn't need to sickly in Vince is not really threatening. You particularly in the second half when they kinda had controlled running game. He chances thirty wrist in those parts, you can actually. Pretty well in this game that you could actually go play because they had a good handle of the at that point in time. So I I agree. I think he was thinking severe swith he who's pressing a bit and going back to my Kamal's point. They he was kind of Ted. Little sometimes. Yes. So it's going to be interesting to see. Hopefully, this is not a rude. Not reverting back to last season where Brown was getting ridiculous targets every single game. But the second leading receiver was judy's Mr. eight receptions, one hundred four yards along thirty five which was the catch I referred to earlier got the team will inside Chris Basel's field goal range. Eight catches on tan targets. What do you grade you on this in this game, Lance June two three actually give a three point two five? I thought Judy was huge. And that final drive I thought in terms of percentage. Judy was solid juju player, very good gang. Those physical came for Junji stupid because he took some hits over the middle that I know he might want to avoid it might wanna slide some of those situations, but that catch back shoulder catch was enough to give it a two and a half grade. And I ju- continues to place all. Football. Juju was dependable. But I think what you're seeing with this offense particularly against really good deepens like Jacksonville. They need a third wide receiver. I don't think Switzer's the guy in Washington has proven to be the guy either they knew wide receiver option that can take some pressure off of those two guys on the outside and next week when they play diverse when it be critical that Gilbert comes back because Gilbert is one of.

"Alabama will take over first and ten at their own seventeen yard line there. I drive nine plays seventy yards for the touchdown to a ton of Iowa to thirty yards Damian Harris five carries for twenty nine yards and a touchdown. And Dale, and I are convinced he fumbled. And Mississippi State didn't get a replay. Out of the pistol Harrison, the backfield Damian Harris that is earth Smith motions towards the formation picks up rolling naked. Boot fires to Irv. Smith wide open on the far side at Smith. The big tight end show. Some wheels gets out to the thirty eight yard line. A gain of twenty one Irv Smith four crimson tide receivers that average more than seventeen yards for Gary it CJ Morgan who finally escorts him out of there is a player down Thompson on the far side for Mississippi State. Probably looks like he's gonna be okay. But I got distracted by Jonathan Abrams safety for Mississippi State, two hundred fifteen pounds senior number one on the team in tackles with sixty eight coming into the game as I'm sitting here watching what theme while he's looking at one of the Alabama wide receivers as as Irv Smith going for twenty yards. It's ridiculous sport timing. That's for sure. And after Damian. Harris again who came back for his senior campaign. He'll pick up four heart yards to the left side. Running behind Jody Williams that great left tackle from Folsom, California. Chauncey rivers brings him down gain a five actually by the time. They stopped this offense a wide. You know, we do games here. Every year. They lose guys to that hotel every year. Like, boy are they gonna replace him. Oh, there's another six six hundred twenty pound freshman or sophomore ready to pour a tongue of Iowa shotgun as Damien Harrison is right. Herb Smith, h back formation here fake, the counter now tug of Iowa going to be brought down behind the line of scrimmage was a QB keeper crashing in Braxton he`uaed along with Willie gates junior and that brings up third and six after a loss of one point took a long time to develop and allowed the edges for Mississippi State to crash down and get to down on the ground on third down. Alabama converted their only attempt to they'll need to get past their own forty eight. Jerry Judy in the slot. Right. The leading receiver for this crimson tide team. Henry rugs. Why did the near side? Single receiver left. On the via low of facing a blitz. They'll send five for Mississippi State via Loa pumped. What's now comes back to the far side, it's complete. Jalen Waddell, hall, sit in of the forty five Mississippi State along the boundary in front of Jamal. Peter's a gain of twelve and it's another first down for Alabama's. We're under seven in the first quarter. It's somewhat scary. How accurate is throwing the football field that touchdown pass was a thing of beauty here. Third down and about four five strike in there too. Nice little pattern pick up the first thing. That was even from a somewhat dirty pocket. He pumped at once and edit bullet back fakes the give the Josh Jacobs. Now dragging to the tight end Smith. Good coverage that time Mississippi State as they swapped them the ball came up, but it's going to be blown dead. Again. I don't think that one was a fumble. It gets to the forty two Cameron dancer gets their gain of three verbs Smith junior who's been busy today. His third catch. Stayed doing a nice job when they get more than one guy or the ball. The other guys come in fried script that ball loose defense. It really needs to force of turnovers here their offense or shorter field to work. Pistol set second at six the give to the right side is Josh pickups an Alabama continuing to run for big yards. They're averaging over five yards per carry that one eight for Josh Jacob before he's brought down by Montanez sweat. It's another Alabama. I down to the Mississippi State twenty eight yard line Mississippi State Roger defensive line game. We called it. Petr tackle up the field defensive van comes behind him that deeper the Bill was Gary green. He comes inside. That's exactly where Alabama was running the football Waddell and Judy. Why did the far side rugs nearside to backs in the backfield Tunga Bilo looks left? Now. He's gonna throw left looking for Jerry Judy on the better he is covered closely by CJ Morgan and that ball just sailed out in front of them. You don't see taco by Loa just missed like that very often. Well, let's remember that first of all the ball was he released it down around his waist. So what is best throwing motion. But Secondly, remember you stroll right into fairly brisk breeze here this afternoon and Tuscaloosa is feet were pointing towards the goalposts. And I think it was a late decision to go sideline to give the nausea. Harris is first Gary. Hey, spends away from Montana, sweat, but sweat hangs on with one hand and draws back with the other and stops them before the sticks. But a gain of eight for nausea, Harris, he'll get all the way to the twenty five yard line sets up thirty two for Alabama. They are two for two on third down. One hundred twenty one hundred thirty one yards to seven here in the first quarter for Alabama. Would there kicking struggles would be surprised if it's four down territory for Nick Sabin club? We'll see if they even need to think about that, nausea. Harris the back end of the pistol rather Josh Jacobs. He'll get it to the right side. And he breaks through the crowd Willie gate junior brings them down. Not before he gets two and a half yards and enough to get another Alabama. I doubt. Well, take a look at this offense of why we talk a lot about that. But they are so physical. We talked about pets alive for Mississippi State tests, sweat, you really haven't even known that. He's out of the field in jeopardy Simmons. The Bednarik semi is inside struggling against this offer to why relevant. I intend for Alabama tenth play of the drive coming up split backs in the backfield fake Dhananjay Harris now Tunga via low in trouble. He's going to run it from behind. It's going to be tackled brought down Jerry green gets on top of them. But a gain of ten per tonne of Iowa. Even when you force him to go to his last choice running the football. He is so hyper dangerous, it looks like he might have been stopped just before the sticks. Now, they'll move the chains on the sideline it'll be I attend Alabama. At the twelve of the BULLDOGS, he has such long strides doesn't look like he's moving very fast, but he takes two or three steps and he's got seven or eight yards. First and ten at the twelve in the red zone. The hand off Josh Jacobs. Going left Jacobs turns the corner lowers the shoulder and picks up the first down as he drops the hammer inside the five. That'll be another Alabama. I doubt it's first didn't goal. Mark MacLaurin on the receiving end of that hit. Now the six touchdown of the year was allowed on the opening drive against this Mississippi State defense in the red zone Jacobs going for the next he'll be stopped just shy of the sticks got back or just shy of the goal line. At the two yard line. It'll will be second and goal for Alabama MAURICE smitherman on the tackle impressive. Alabama can just go different basis. We got that high promote they can slow it down a baby too and their intermediate most of the time, but boy they can catch a top three minutes to go in the first quarter. Seventy nothing Alabama. Second goal out of the shotgun for viola Josh Jacobs next to Jerry, Judy motions towards the formation the hand up Jacob's Jacob steps inside two defenders. Did he get in touch down Alabama? Just another off tackle play reaches a ball out over the goal line. All you have to do is break the plane of the goal line, which he did. Scrape down the goal line. Mississippi State defense it only allowed nine touchdowns all season long. They're on pace to allow eight today. The extra point is up and good fourteen to nothing. Alabama leads Mississippi State more action on the way from Tuscaloosa next when we come back. John Rosty will give us a check of the scoreboard. Hey, whatever you give us topics in advance. We question. Do you question this? You have no memory and then sooner Matt Moore and his his name puppy still doesn't know his name. It doesn't make sense to know his name until we show you this video and then say it's seven years old. But if that kind of memorable this video, it's going viral now because this guy can throw football. Here's more and that's the seventeen yard line. Thank you for the helpful ERO. Yes, good Lord that guys. This crazy right there. How is that possible? What is that? Did they jump a second football from the. Because I've never seen a ball or somebody that opened down the Bill by the way, I would leave him open to because I would say there's no chance of quarterback can get that eighty yards across the field. Bad. We don't have video of the ball dropping from the moon. His goal from the bills, they're looking for. That's right. They'll be trout this. This guy is Lauren football. He's a power lifter now, but you don't know that he's wrong even as lifter. It's gonna look better than what the bills are presently putting quarterback, so his arm might be stronger now. That's right. Do you question who had the best reaction to these? We go out to live streaming in Germany because if we didn't seem quite lazy enough with the video that was seven years old. Let's check in with some live streaming and Germany to see it. We could make some content than than that. This, this is a custom designed lingo. Oh, it was a custom designed Ligo. The head. I mean. "That is the one advantage that he has over Elliott right now. Michael Carter has been the workhorse for the heels. Eighty one yards rushing already Carter does have one hundred yard game to his credit actually two of them in his career is career highs one fifty seven came against Virginia last season. He's already has his season high. Remember, he did not play the first two games came back last week at twenty eight yards on the ground against Pittsburgh thirty six yards receiving and he has been a big part of the tar heel offense. So far will be in that power pistol. Swear, he has back behind him in this case Tonio Williams, and then he has a player to either side of him to his left is Michael Carter to his rightist Jordan Brown. So all three of the tar heel tailbacks in this formation, first and ten from the. Miami. We're gonna call it. Now, the eighteen originally market the seventeen eighteen yard line for the heels Surat will keep it himself right up, the gut threat, the Timbo Mike made a man missing the five and scores. The touchdown that cutting back at the five was a thing of beauty Sheldrick. Red wine was left hugging for air. Can do an explosive play athletic unless he gets his space. He has the ability to make guys missing he has enough speed where he can make really explosive plays. He scored that one great job out of Carolina upfront. The big hogs blocking. So Surat from eighteen yards out gets the touchdown Freeman Jones. We'll try to add the extra point comes at the to eleven Mark extra point is good. And let's not forget there was an enormous penalty in that drive. When it looked like Miami had gotten off the field defensively, but Gerald Willis called for the unsportsmanlike. And because of that it allowed the drive to continue. I'll tell you what that cutback by Surata the five was something else. Lee pace on the tar heel sideline. Lee will interesting color for the tar heel coaches on the next offense of possession as I said in the last last break that was not a benching of Nathan Elliott because of a bad play the resulted in a touchdown. That was preordained that was playing would get the third series. So now after seeing what he can do this. You got to wonder where the tar heels will go go with it on the next possession. That's a good point decision now for Larry fedora and his offense. If staff to particulars on the drive seven plays seventy yards to twenty one off the clock. They again move it to a seventeen yard touchdown not eighteen originally. They had at seventeen and eighteen seventeen seventeen yard touchdown run four. Chaz Surat has gotten Carolina within four at fourteen ten by lot of scoring here in the first quarter. We still have to eleven to go. And that sequence you see what.

"Tiger defense. Now, that's pretty good. They're attacking that center position for navy. They're trying to blow that up if you can blow up that first option on the triple option, you really have a good chance to thwart this offense. And so far the tiger defense, they bent, but they haven't broken second down and twelve from the seventeen yard line for the midshipmen Tigers again crowd. The line scrimmage. Malcolm Perry is going to throw the football. Throws left side has a man wide open corner at the twenty five he's got the first down at the thirty. And he's wrestle to the ground. At about the thirty three yard line. The catch that time came from CJ Williams, one of the wingbacks. Yeah. That was a play where they send everything to the right side. And and then the quarterback throws back to the left is just a a delay drag route, and they only went over there was Austin hall, and he had to come up with a tackle. Fortunately, he did. Or he would still be running the way they do this. They read the line, and they read a receiver or a wingback, and they know which way to go and hall new which way to go just couldn't get there in time. So I down ten navy at their own thirty three. They've got forty six total yards now Perry under center and gives it to the fullback, and there's not a whole lot of room across the thirty five yard line. Not quite to the thirty six pickup, two and a half. Or so it's a thing of beauty to watch. It navy offensive line fire out though day, they all come out with the snot coming out of the news and everything else man, they are firing off that offensive line. And it makes it really difficult as a defender view to try to read your keys when they're coming at your ankles like that they've got so many different ways. They can do is act. He becomes into the game. He could carry the ball. You could get go Gelo to carry the ball you could get trae Walker toz Malloy to carry the. Well, they've all carried it already. They'll split one. Right. One left in the wingback position goes in motion left to right. It's a dive by the fullback. There's not much there at all at is who made the Kerry ran right into Jackson Dylan, only, a pickup a one. It'll be third long third and law, but navy is very very confident. They don't have to throw it because their offense is so trick so shifty and tricky we'll see what they'll do. They'll try to get something wide. I would imagine third down seven ball is in side the left hatch here with three fifty four to go in the first quarter and navy up. Three nothing off the turnover by the U of M Perry in a shotgun. This time here's the snappy wants to throw now he's going to run the football. And he's caught right at the line of scrimmage about the thirty yard line by Curtis Aken. Who's led the team the last two years in tackles against navy? That's a pickup of two it'll set up a fourth down and for the first time in the game the bring oh and why. A junior from Portland Oregon on to kick the football. It's every time this quarterback gets the ball. Dave. And it looks like he's got the open space. You just want to hold your breath. But Curtis Aitken's massive speed for speed before he could make his cut and put him on the plastic wrap..
