Seven years of sex abuse: How Mormon officials let it happen

"Three of 6 children who accused their father of sexual abuse are suing the Mormon church for not going to authorities and letting the abuse go on for years The eldest daughter of Paul Douglas Adams of Arizona says when her father confessed to a bishop at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints it was kept in the church It didn't stop let's have them go to therapy It didn't stop Hey let's forgive and forget and this will all go away It didn't go away Adams was finally arrested when authorities discovered videos he had posted online but not before he assaulted his daughter for another 7 years and even attacked a newborn daughter the Mormon church says its bishops are excused from reporting abuse to police under Arizona's clergy penitent privilege Adams killed himself before going to trial his wife served prison time after doing nothing about the abuse I'm Donna water

"Then it's like oh affiliate program is up and i'm like this is my thing. This is the thing that i'm gonna grab onto and this is going to be of like my my life. Saber of sorts to keep me floating in this madness of everything going to shit essentially around me and i did and i want again and won first place again and i could not freaking believe i'd and then i got the ten thousand dollars again and what that allowed me to do those ten thousand dollars. I was able to fly in my entire family to come visit me in canada in my own home. Living on i'm gonna cry do it 'cause i love it so much. I love it too. Because i will join you my own plays and with my girls and were safe but we're happy and were doing fantastic. Yes i was able to get my parents. My sister and my sister's kids all of them from mexico to see me to stay with me for ten days and they were able to just share with me in this whole new kind of like opening of my life and that was just further confirmation dot no matter what is going on around you. Things can change in an instant and it does depend on the work that you do behind the scenes. All the struggle that you go through but things can change in an instant. Yes a love that kettle. That's absolutely an awesome story. I saw john experience of feeling to never gonna love john after this episode. This is jonathan goodman breakthrough episode. This is a great episode of oprah. Winfrey where you meet someone and you really get to understand what makes them tick so. I love that story so much. It's so true right. You just don't know what things that you're actively doing at the moment that are setting you up to take advantage of that needle when it's time for the move and you can't guess at it you can't predict it. You can't control it all that you control is your effort in your attitude over time and then win the wind blows you know when the stars in the sky dance off the lake your way when the stars align when the moon hits you like a. It's a morte. that's the more a so men. I hope you guys are inspired out there by what you've heard today again. I thought this was going to be a shell of a show. I was looking forward to my wisdom teeth removal show today. Actually who knew right. We just stumbled into this. Podcast is an idea that i think we're on episode ninety seven or ninety eight ninety eight so you guys have witnessed all ninety. Five of the crap shows that we've done we are in the last five percent and the needles moving. I don't know what to tell you. Except for the fact that we're not trending and lithuania anymore. I was gonna say moving backwards in lithuania where we have this news. Now we have one over they were down the rankings. Let me tell you. I think maybe somebody i think somebody just hoping the other listener didn't pass away or something like that because that's when you got to listeners. In an entire country and one of them dies at cuts your reach half of that things. Go down dramatically. Let add this is such a great an important thing to understand there for all of you feeling frustrated like things aren't working there's no such thing there's no such thing as you're doing consistent good work in it doesn't work. You haven't seen the results of it yet. You know in a newish old time and when they come quick on it who dictate away. It's a big thing often at surprising times. Absolutely don't become slowly and that's when people start asking where did she come from He come from out of nowhere announcing li i see them all over the place lead girl up in this seven years. There's nothing sudden about. The last conversation i had with the students today was asking me about my social media strategy in took great notes and at the end they summarize everything that i that i told them oscilloscope. Just do this this this this this and this i was like yes. Oh and at seven years to that to drop that on top of it. That's your cherry on top. Do it for seven years and in no time have the say after seven long years of trying to miss out. You're very rarely going to move the needle with one is. Is that your one weird trick to success. That's with david letterman. Sav stupid human tricks. And that's my one stupid human trait you know. You're very rarely going to move the needle one isolated incident but it's also very rarely that you don't think that someone has moved the needle one isolated incident. If you're looking from the outside it's always gonna look like they did a thing and then moved s. Only because you weren't there for the rest of it so it always looks that way and you're never gonna experience that so you're chasing something in trying to do that that doesn't exist. You've only seen the tail end of the comments. And that's really all i got to say. I mean you guys got anything. Did we do without speaking of moving. The needle has been helping. "So these fans are going to have to bring a proof of Covad 19 negative test. I think it's 72 hours, but I am not 100% sure on that. Yeah, they're gonna have to have a test before they attend the Knicks game First one February 23rd against death Curry. On the warriors, so it's going to be on exciting atmosphere. And, you know, I think Curry is going to just try to put on a show. But I understand you're gonna be so excited, but they are gonna have to Go to a doctor and, you know, go to a facility and get a covert test mark, by the way, Mark Berman from the New York Post of Freddie Coleman of Freddie and Fitz Simmons on ESPN Radio, the ESPN app and since Exxon Channel 80 by producer Chris, Mitch and I were discussing this before we had you on This is all the makings of a StubHub type situation where Christmas even said I got a covert 19 positives. Positives right here. Right here. Right here. Right here. How much had the New York Knicks or anybody have to think about that People are going to get into their Maybe that enter Forge. Forgery to try to get into the building and watch a game, you know? Wow, that's that is a great thought. I wasn't even thinking along those lines. But yes, we're gonna have right. Someone having a fake covert negative certificate. On, you know? Are these tickets gonna be scouts outside the arena? I will say I'd rather hear people shouting out tickets tickets, because right now, when I walked to the garden before a game, it's There's no next jerseys. There's no one walking around. I mean, there is a construction going on with Penn Station, but it is just such a miserable scene where there's just no activity around the garden yet. Forget about inside outside the garden, and you know how You know, crazy. It is outside the garden, usually It's kind of a ghost town and to hear people's scalping tickets again. That would be music to my ears, because that means we're on the right track and getting back to normal. How much is it been music to the years of Knicks fans that This actually looks like 18 that they may not make the playoffs this year Mark but looks like a team that you can actually see a bright future instead of hoping and wishing that it's not just the one your thing. It's amazing what coaching can do so many people they think coaching is overrated. And I think in baseball, maybe it is But in basketball and football, it's so so Big and Tom Thibodeau His starting lineup is the same five guys from West season not the same starters, but all five starters were on this team last season when they were horrendous. And he's stuck with this starting unit. They've had continuity. Uh, you know, truly is Randall is played out of his mind. And now they add, Derrick Rose. It's gonna maybe You know, take a little while to get the chemistry right. But Derek and his debut, he looked very spry and he's a shot maker. He's a scorer. He's a passer and he gives them energy, so I think it's only gonna get better. And it's great to say, because it's been seven long years and now I think they're going to compete for a playoff berth hit him upon twenties. Gaza's giving you a short low introduction man while i was Giving some of the updates of what we have going off for smart jews This year we definitely went to Let people get introduced to you. Know folks definitely are interested in hearing your testimony in your story of being married and also You know went to hold versus the old your previous marriage and so i'll let you introduce yourself. Tell us where you're you're tuning in from in also tell us a little bit about your background. A man good evening. Everyone say happy new year to you Like to thank you for joining us tonight. Ms julia said monday. Ms marcus edwards. I'm right here in. at l. atlanta georgia originally from north carolina. I'm an apostle of culture ministry's culture with a k. And we spell it with a k. because we're bringing the kingdom to the culture and so we we truly thank god for doing in our lives and i met julian at the Conference that was held in november. And i was able to give my testimony and he heard the testimony and asked me to come up here in chaumont testimony with you guys. As said i was in a previous marriage of fifteen years eight of those years. I was without my spouse. She left me. And i had to stay in the marriage until god released me. You know when you are in the tests you don't think about the testimony you just in the fire of the moment of what you're going through. You don't think about how many people it can help when you go through it you just trying to figure out how to go through it day-to-day but during those eight years. I really found god to be my keeper. He kept me and you hear people say that. But it's like how does he keep you. Well it takes a life of discipline. I had to learn how to discipline myself and really shut my life down from a lot of things that was on the outside. Even though i had external voices speaking to me telling me you know you need to go ahead and end this marriage. I had to wait for god. So i stayed in it for seven years alone. And you're not reminding. God your says that it's not good for for too long and i that would that four seven long years seven and a half and i would come to a house that was empty but i was still married but i had to obey god's word and that was you know stay faithful first of all to god and also to the covenant of marriage in even family members. Were calling me crazy trying to figure out why didn't end it. Why wasn't i looking for somebody else. So dating someone else. After so many years of waiting and i tell them when god releases me then i'll be released and i'm telling you i learned how to pray during those eight years. I stayed in the word. I had to turn the way television. Everything and become a student of the word in really understood what david said when he says it was good. I was afflicted so that i might learn your law. Because they're those moments of affliction in those moments of being along and the pain of the test you know. I learned how to read the word in a learned about the true essence of the presence of psalm. Ninety one was the thing that kept me If so many of you have your bibles. So i'm not says he that dwells in the secret place of the most high shallow by under the shadow of the almighty and i found out that that secret place in prayer so i had to really develop prayer life. I had to really develop a consistent. Pro-life it wasn't enough for me to pray for fifteen minutes and it'd be okay. No because the pain of the sting of the of the of the test. I was going through would come back immediately so i had to learn how to stay on my needs for hours. Had to learn how to stay on my face for hours. I learned how to go fast. I mean the holy spirit will put me on immediate fast. Just so i can give over the The pain of the test and just like any other man. Yeah there were moments where your flesh rise up. But i had to stay in i had to discipline myself inbred and then i learned it in the scripture. The bible says that we overcome him by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony and also hebrews nine says that Our conscience is purged from dead works to serve the living god by the blood of jesus so i would find as many.

"Show and then ship here, OK, so you would not vote for a Democrat under any circumstance or some circumstance. I mean, I would take some circumstance, but the Democratic Party would have to stop being insane. Then Shapiro levelheaded Tuck for an unhinged world also present a face that doesn't look like people shouting down people, a gas stations or entering restaurants and trying to throw them out. We D afternoons from 2 to 5 on W. L s 90 Kind of town people in Germany when I sit among the most informed people in this country that he's taking credit for it or anything, I'm not making up. Do mice. Limbaugh 11 2 days on being 89. Chicago? Actually, it's w L s a 90 Is Chicago. It's connect the dots here from local states. This respect, representative But is this a really bill? This is a real bill in national news. There were some connected does with Big John How could have your own opinion, But you're not supposed to be able to have your own facts. John l show I just try to find out what's going on explaining and then let people react 5 to 7 weekdays on a 90 W. L s Hey, Welcome. This is Ben Shapiro. Sure got a lot coming up for you this hour a little bit later on in the hour to get to all of your covert 19 updates exciting, exciting. Plus, we'll be talking with Brad Thor, Best selling fiction author from mine. Really, he has his stuff is tremendous will talk with him in just a little while here. We begin at this hour with the amazing notion. I mean, apparently, it is just a fact that there is no violence anywhere in the country. It's not happening. And that big uptick in death New York It's coded that giant spike in violence in Chicago. That's that's just trump the people trying to burn down the entire city of Portland. Wow, you know, stop worrying about that sort of stuff. It's all a figment of your imagination. It's not actually happening. I mean, people are literally saying this represented and Blumenauer crazy person. I hesitate to label people crazy, but This guy is like I'm not to tell you. Looks like he's from a kid's show, circa 1972. He's wearing a purple polka dot tie not like a necktie like like a bow tie. He has not gotten a haircut in seven long years, and he's wearing a lapel pin of a green bicycle. Is he pledges allegiance to the bicycle. There is this idiot talking about? Nothing bad is happening in Portland, as you were about to see this is not a truth. It's not a true statement here here is a dead woman are being is Earl Blumenauer out of being a stupid human Portland, Oregon is not out of control. To be sure, there are some people who have strong feelings, since there are some who have done things that are inappropriate and unlawful. But that is the challenge of our local officials in our state officials to manage it not having somebody unwelcome. Uninvited and unprepared coming in to take this difficult situation and make it worse. It's making the situation worse, right? I mean, it's a difficult situation. I just said it's not a problem. So which is it is in a difficult situation. Was it not a problem? You gotta pick. I think we know the answer. It's a difficult situation like for example, footage coming out of Portland last night they're rioting. Literally riding. I'm looking at the footage Right now you've got a line of cortical protesters were approaching the authorities wearing gas masks.

"First congratulations on your graduation it's a big deal all I'm sure we always she was under different circumstances it's a true honor to be speaking with you here today many of you are likely not intimately familiar with the Vietnam War but at my age it was one of the defining periods of my life my father served multiple tours in combat and my oldest brother did and I assume growing up that I would as well one of the stories that I remember most and lessons that I learned came from an officer named James Stockdale he was a navy pilot who was shot down and kept in captivity for seven long years in the Hanoi Hilton during that period he was brutally tortured but he maintained his values he maintained his integrity he maintained his optimism and people asked him afterward how could he have done that under those circumstances and what came out is now known as the Stockdale paradox in those conditions he had lost all control over the physical aspects of his life he could be starved he could be beaten he could be tortured and he had to admit the reality of that you couldn't deny it but at the same time he had to keep the values and he was rooted in philosophy and religion and a sense of optimism for the future and he was able to balance the two at once and I think he communicated a good lesson for all of us to consider particularly when times are hard for us throughout my career in the army I was taught a mantra you don't control the aspects of your birth you don't choose your parents or where or when you're born and there's a good chance as a soldier you won't choose where or the circumstances of your death but you can choose how you live the current world health and economic crisis is teaching us all a similar lesson this crisis will change life as we know it just at the moment you're coming of age you may wonder why did this happen now you didn't choose this crisis you didn't ask for it you didn't cause it but you can't stop or prevent it either one thing we do know is all those things will be different we'll get to the other side there will be a future there will be a life after this crisis when we get there I think we'll all look in the rear view mirror and talk about what we did now what will care about is inside us as individuals what did we do in the face of the enemy covert nineteen and what did we do in the crisis that enveloped all of us how did you act how did you treat people how did we live up to our responsibility to others and to our community I can tell you from experience you're not going to want to look inside yourself and wish that you had done more you're not gonna want to wish that you had been a better person the moment is now the opportunity is now to be the person you know you can be I think most of you will be extraordinarily proud of the way you conduct yourself now it it's something to think about although crises are not a good thing they represent an opportunity to bring out the best in ourselves and that best can be the normal that we live our lives forever now I know in the middle of a crisis you may not feel this way you say why are we talking about this were right in a time when record numbers of people are succumbing to an ugly pandemic well there are times when the world looks dark the next hill seems too high and there isn't much reason for hope maybe the hellish too hot I don't know but what I do know is if you don't try you guarantee the worst possible outcome if you push forward if you persist if you live up to your values you may fail but the reality is you also have the great possibility of succeeding and you inspire yourself and you inspire others around you with your commitment so how we respond now each of us is going to be a great differentiator I urge all of you to take a moment and ignore the external environment nor the noose ECN nor the fact that in many cases were shut up in our homes and focus on yourself for a moment not in a selfish way but ask yourself what matters to you what are your values what can you do to help except that this crisis socks it does no one should tell you otherwise but finding a sense of purpose in helping those around you is how we all emerge stronger and more unified than before thank you and good luck in all you do you're listening to I heart radio's commencement speeches for the class of twenty twenty and now Henry Winkler hello my friends congratulations.
