"I think it is somewhat gaslighting to suggest that college basketball has fallen off of a cliff because the average sports fan lacks the capacity to follow the sport because a bunch of dudes aren't staying for three or four years anymore. College basketball used to have 5% of the television inventory that it has now in the 80s and early 90s. And this idea that back then, college basketball was the number two or number three sport in America and was riding at highs that we see the MBA at today is just not true. As far as I can tell, talking to people who were there, it's just not true. Yes, it did have superstar names that stayed for a long time. But this sport as followed literally by tens of millions of people. Is it as popular as college football? No. Is it as popular as the NBA? No, it's as popular as the NFL. No, that's okay. It's never going away. So I don't fret over this. And I think it just is a default lazy talking point. This idea that because you have superstar top 5 level picks going into college basketball and leaving after 7 or 8 months, it is killing the product. Think about it, what it would be otherwise one, you wouldn't have the names, that's not good for college basketball but two, the sport always produces stars no matter what. So by the way, the two of the three most highest rated non football broadcasts of 2021. College basketball games. Any thoughts, cop? No, you nailed it. The other thing too, you'd rather have them go in and play in one season in college basketball than go in and do a G league ignite or go into Australia or going to the overtime. So the fact that you got someone in guns and college basketball, I think it's a good thing because it means it's competing with those alternative options. All right, last one, then we'll get out of here because we're going on 70 plus minutes. Rutgers man. Wow. It really went long there. New Orlando, when did you get your first love for basketball and college basketball in particular? The very first memory I ever have of college basketball. First one is being excited for UNLV in the title game in 1990. My parents wouldn't let me stay up for it. This was about the time I was really starting. I was big on cubs embarras when I was young in the 80s, Walter Payton Andreas and all that stuff. Then Jordan starts to get really good and I get interested in the cubs. I have vivid memories sitting leaning against one of those pillows called with a little arms husbands, leaning against a husband and my parents living room and watching my parents let me stay up to watch bulls Lakers. 1991 finals vivid vivid memories right before that though, I wanted to watch UNLV playing the championship. My parents wouldn't let me. I remember waking up the next morning asking who won the basketball game and thinking like UNLV that's a weird combination of letters and discovering a love early. And then once we got to like 92 93, I was obsessed with the Chicago Bulls and rightfully so I was far from the only one, but I'm a white kid living in the northeast at this point. And then the college basketball love kind of came organically. To be honest, a lot of it was SportsCenter reruns in the morning, Dan Patrick Keith olbermann, then Craig Kilborn. Let it kill be. Love it. And so ACC tournaments, all this stuff. I remember Dick Vitale. Having a huge influence on me. And so that was kind of hits. You know, I lived in Vermont. I wasn't at a division one hotbed. I actually did like Kentucky in the mid 1990s 95 96 Kentucky team is my favorite team of all time because it's really the team that made me love what college basketball could be what it was. Ron Mercer, I was trying to be around Mercer in my driveway. So maybe in an off season episode we can go on an even deeper dive there, but that's kind of the start of it. Around 8 9 years old, wanting to watch UNLV. I think the first, I think the first final four game my parents ever let me stay up and watch was 93 because I watched the Weber time out. I watched that in real time. That was I definitely remember that one. I can't remember if I ever watched the duke ones in real time or not, but that's me as we wrap cop. What about you? What got you into basketball? How did you actually had an influence on my interest in college basketball as well? So I got a lot of folks in Kentucky and they tried to a doctor and date me at an early age with the cat's paws, Kentucky basketball yearbook, they would give to me every year. And so the first year that I paid attention to college basketball was the year tubby won the national title. They beat Rick majerus in the national championship game with Scott paget and Evans and those guys and that we had it recorded on VHS. So I didn't have cable until I was in middle school. And so anyway, I watched that Kentucky Utah national title game, so many times. And then of course, one shining moment, honestly, not just saying that for the CBS brand, like had a huge impact on just understanding the big moments of college basketball and what they mean. And then I guess the other one that I probably did in my driveway more times than I can count is Bryce drew's shot for Valparaíso to beat almost. I mean, I just, you know, that's an iconic moment from college basketball in my childhood that certainly had an impact on the way I saw the game. Man, I could do three, four hours of a podcast on where I was and reactions are reliving certain huge basketball moments between the ages basically like ten and 25 from.

"It's just me and Cobb. Paris is under. Paris is unconscious and boobs in the hospital, so you might have to do a lot of the writing here, and they're going to I feel like this is like Steven is a getting the, hey, you're in and like the crunch time of like a Big Ten game. Well, we're glad we're breaking you in on this episode because there will be we are going to mix it up for YouTube purposes mixed in some KB and some David here a little more frequently. And I think you're doing wonderful here. Okay, before we pick the game. So that is a Friday night game. Only one of no Murray state at Memphis see what happens. They're Saturday. Noon FS1, BYU versus creating at the Sanford Pentagon in South Dakota. Hopefully those seems in play get a good game in and no one gets COVID. One 30 on ESPN2 Arkansas at Oklahoma Arkansas has played a little bit of an underwhelming schedule, so that's a good test for the hogs there. See if they can remain undefeated 2 o'clock on ESPN U you've got Colorado state undefeated versus Mississippi state and Fort Worth, Mississippi state was a trendy top 5 top 16 in the SEC in the preseason. If it's going to validate that, it's got to win that game against Nico medved's rams, who in my opinion are operating like a top 20 team in college basketball. Certainly one of the hottest teams in the sport you have to lose a game. Two 30 on Fox, UCLA at marquette, Mick cronin does not schedule scared. It's the only coaches to ever go from the first four to the final four. Mick cronin, Chaka smart, Fox two 30 on Saturday, UCLA at marquette. Again, the only thing we have in the college football army navy on CBS, you want to make sure you watch that as well. It means the college basketball schedules got plenty to offer. Three 30 on ESPN2, Bonnie's versus UConn at The Rock. I don't quite know why this game is in Newark, New Jersey, but I do know that only Virginia tech and Yukon agreed to play saint bonaventure in the non conference among power conference teams. Good on Dan Hurley. He's I haven't talked to Dan about this, knowing him he is 100% regretting this decision right now because of the fact that he's just the team has banged up so no go wasn't available. I think they had three guys out for that game earlier. So Bonnie could really use this for their non conference resume and really their resume overall because the 8 ten is only going to offer so many opportunities. That's a three 30 tip on ESPN U, I think that one could be a bit chaotic there. Then 6 o'clock on ESPN2, undefeated LSU against Georgia Tech at State Farm arena. I'm telling you right now, this is upset alert stuff. Georgia Tech's women's team just beat Yukon on Thursday. The men's team is pretty good from three and LSU just lets teams shoot from three. Like crazy, crazy. If tech is hitting from beyond the arc, keep it in mind there. LSU is the better team. How are you insulted number two team in the net like that? Hey, listen, is that where they are? I think zone is. She was number two in the net. They're kind of scooting under the weekend for teams that have had really good starts to really get some get some run on the Sunday pod and maybe some more national love there. That's a 6 o'clock tip. 8 30 on FS1. Cincinnati at Xavier, love it. This is a good Saturday here. Cincinnati, first year under west Miller, not a ton of expectation. You go and you win at Xavier if you do that, you change the whole dynamic. The paradigm shifts on bearcat nation if they can get that when Xavier's the better team, Xavier should win, but the point is Wes Miller has been able to bring in more optimism and I think just positive vibes for that program in the first year of the first 5 weeks of the season. I think even bearcat fans thought, that's a really, really cool thing. And then two others on Sunday to be aware of Virginia tech plays at Dayton at Dayton. Normalize this. Good on you, Mike young. Don't schedule scared. Dayton's a little down. Yeah, it's a little bit of a dangerous game, but if you get the win, you get a valuable non conference road win, then four 30 on Sunday, Florida is gonna play Maryland at the Barclays center, shouts to Audi Joseph, our managing editor, he will be in the building for that. Those are the games we are not picking. Now, it is time for the final four and one. I told you, we have a stacked weekend here. Saturday. Noon on Big Ten network. Wisconsin at Ohio State on David, lighty court, Ohio State is favored by four, according to Ken palm, what is your pick? David Cobb. Yeah, I've got Ohio State minus four. Now you want me to give you any reasons why? Yeah, of course. Yeah, okay. I like the fact that Ohio State should be able to draw Wisconsin 7 footers away from the rim a little bit and open up the floor here. I mean, it's not like Ohio State has a bunch of really Uber talented guards who can get into the paint. But I think it's going to make Wisconsin really uncomfortable when EJ lid and Kyle young putting up threes against their 7 footers. And I think Liddell certainly can use his outside shooting ability to draw those 7 footed out and then drive around them and get to the hole. I like it. Succinct fast will make this pick segment faster than normal here. I will take I'm gonna take Ohio State in this spot to cover this number. Wisconsin has been fantastic. Johnny Davis has to be on the short short list. I'm talking national player of the year, candidates through the first four and a half weeks of the season. I'm talking top three top four. He's been he's been terrific, Wisconsin coming back down 22 at home against Indiana matching a program record. It showed a ton there. It really did. But I like Ohio State the spot and I like that number. So give me the buckeyes to cover. Ohio State by the way, looking to a three and two against NCAA tournament level teams if it can get the win here. Saturday, man, there's a lot of good games. This is my favorite game of the weekend. Saturday, 5 eastern on Fox. Arizona at Illinois on.

"Williams with 7, one on one with amori gets inside, puts it up and in with 3.4 to go. Get it to Harper with three with two with one Harper for the win. Got it. Let's go. Game winner at the buzzer. And Rutgers upsets number one. 70 to 60. First time in program history that they are beating the number one team. But they're going to check the tape. Score the basket. Ball game. Let's go. And the students. I want to found that one last night, but I definitely didn't, because the lead goes are phenomenal. Shout out to shout out to Robbie hummel for not like dropping an F bomb as his Alma mater. Loses number one in the country and all likelihood, you know, when they just got there for the first time in program history he held it together pretty well. And fun fact about that moment as well, Matt, as you know, and a lot of these situations, I don't know what kind of cable you have. But I stream via fubo. And so sometimes a solid 45 seconds behind what's actually happening on the court. So in a situation like that, where I know we might need a quick story, I've got stat broadcast pulled up, which is very much live or close to it. And so Ron Harper, I've got his fadeaway go ahead jumper like a solid 30 plus seconds before it actually happens on my screen. So I'm working that into a little document on the side so I can make note of it in the article if we have to write one. Well, I keep looking at stat broadcast in the final 5 seconds. And I'm like, oh, they must have called a timeout, like nothing. It's not showing me the game is over. I look back to my screen. And the play is actually unfolding. And so in that way, I was glad it lagged out because I got to enjoy it live rather than have it having it shown to me on the live stats. I hear you a 100%. And when you live that streaming life, when I watch games up here in my office, I've got two, we can't see exhaustion, but I've got two TVs here, and I've got an iPad, but when you stream, you got that lag. So I actually don't have Twitter up often when I'm doing that because I don't want it spoiled with this last night. There really only two games worth watching, so I was able to watch that live. And in real time, we have a third play by play call. Jake Schmidt, Jake smead, I believe, your moment of glory has arrived. This is student radio wr SU. And my man drops, he drops a call here that is going into my audio bank immediately. This is Jake Schmidt. Rutgers students last night. Let's give it a listen..

"They're gonna be like, wait, who is this dude? David, say hello. Give your life story in 25 seconds. Yeah, hello. First off, I'm not Gary Parrish. You can see that by this beautiful head of hair that I have here. There's one distinct difference between Gary and I although we both are from the Memphis metropolitan area. So we have some similarities in our background actually, both worked at the commercial appeal prior to coming over to CBS. For me, I covered the grizzlies for about a year, year and a half as the beat rider. I have a background in college for the covered Tennessee for the Chattanooga times free press for a couple of years, football and basketball. And yeah, so I've been with CBS for a couple of years now. I have a listener of the pod and Matt, I think it's kind of disappointing, actually, that no shouts to Devon Downey. I mean, no shouts to leaky black. We're just not going to talk about unifying. I don't do that shtick. No, this is we're going to change it up a little bit here. Intersection Gary. Hey, listen, the handsomeness quotient of this podcast has skyrocketed this morning. Just out of this world amazing. So again, if you are not already subscribed to the YouTube page, please make sure you do that. And if you are watching right now, if you're watching in real time, click the like button. See, here's how this works. Paris never explains this at the top of the show. If you click the like button, hit that thumbs up. It boosts the engagement. It gets more people that could be watched. That might be just strolling around the streets of YouTube at 10 a.m. on a Friday morning, wanting to hear about Rutgers beating pretty with the buzzer. It might flare onto their radar. However, the youtubes work, right? Whatever. It boosts the channel. So please like it if you haven't already. Of course, ding the bell, subscribe to the channel. There will be a link in this podcast episode. Not and we'll put it in there so you can subscribe. The best way you can support this podcast is to leave reviews and Apple reviews, continue to listen, but also to subscribe to the YouTube channel so that we can get really cool things and stuff to give away to you. I on college basketball on CBS merch, that is coming later this season. Also, we are going to eventually be doing YouTube only content, little 5, ten, 15 minute, quick bites, stuff that won't be in the podcast feed. That's another reason why you're going to want to subscribe to the YouTube channel. And for everyone listening today, listen, no perish here. We're going to do a live viewer Q&A chat at the end of the episode. So if you've got a question, oops or otherwise, toss it in the chat. If not a season's a good one or two, he'll send one to me privately. I will also try and monitor this in real time, but that'll be at the end of the episode. It's a wonderful to have you here, Cobb, Paris is getting his wisdom teeth taking out. I believe I had a person in my mentions refer to him as dead tooth on Thursday, which dead tooth. I was actually mad. I was kind of hoping we'd get like opioid Gary on this show. Yeah, I know. Well, that's the other thing. One more thing before we get to Rutgers Purdue, which I can not wait to talk about. We don't know if Paris is going to be available on Sunday or not. His drug situation, his mouth situation. We don't know if he is not available. I have another potential surprise that I might be working on here. So that's where we're at. Thank you to everyone that showed up here on Friday morning to watch live on YouTube, you are so, so very appreciated. All right, so that's Cobb. Welcome to the fold. Shout out to Kyle Boone, who I know is listening and Kyle gets to go home this weekend as he continues his battle through cancer and I talked to his wife on Thursday. I've had a few people reach out wondering how he's doing. Told he's doing well, but the process goes on. Buddy, we love you. We're thinking of you. Okay. Rutgers. Man, so we go into Thursday, right Cobb, and I'm thinking, all right, Friday episode, maybe it'll be a little bit slow, but we'll have plenty of stuff to talk about. Maybe we look one month in, who are our coach of the year FrontRunner, our players of the year. And then Rutgers obliterates that. New Jersey was the center of the college basketball world on Thursday night. Purdue immediately loses as the number one team in the country. I've got some great audio I want to play, but let me toss it over to you. When did you dial into this thing? I was watching from the get go. But was this one of those games where you thought? I just kind of keep an eye, but I don't know. And what are your thoughts on what Rutgers was able to do in having Purdue go ultimate Purdue, that program just can't have nice things? Yeah, you know, so we're traveling for the holidays, right? So I don't have my normal two screen setups, you know, my multiple games at once, environment. So I actually had to watch the college football awards show for some duties I had in the college football room and I had Texas seat in the hall up on the TV and I had the award show on my iPad. And in my mind, Rutgers produced an afterthought last night. You know, it's one of those that you're going to look at the stats on. But for me, I was far more interested in seeing if Texas could beat a good team because that was only the second good team they played all season last night. And then, you know, when that game ends, you got to make a decision, right? You're like, okay, 8 point game is Rutgers perdue worth changing the channel for. Right? Like that's a decision you got to make. You know, I thought, yeah, okay. It's the number one team. There's nothing there's no other alternatives really. So, I mean, thankfully, there wasn't another game of interest on or else I might not have turned to Rutgers perdue until, you know, the final 20 seconds of the game, but you know I caught the last 6 minutes of it, you know, I've gone back and kind of gone through the play by plays and the highlights and stuff to catch up on what happened before then. And just an awesome ending for Rutgers because that program, I feel like hasn't really had the chance to celebrate what's been one of their best ears yet. And so to see them get to rush the court after finally snapping the NCAA tournament drought last season, but in the COVID environment, you know, for them to make that moment in the home arena in the rack as they call it pretty special. That's right. It's the rack. It's the rack and it's only the rack. Not subway arena, whatever GP called it on the other episode there. Man, you hit on something that I talked about on headquarters Thursday night. We're still in the dumbest pandemic of our lifetimes here in the northeast where I live. Cases are really, they're spiking across across the region. And so there's obviously still plenty of precaution and caution out there, but a lot of these buildings allows universities like you have to show proof of vaccination to get in. So there's this idea that at least you're trying to make it a safe of an environment as possible while returning to some sense of normalcy. So for Rutgers to get that moment in that spot, the way that it played out was just unbelievable. And the guy who did it too, that it was Harper because he's been there the whole time, right? Yes. So that was amazing. And it stinks the geo baker, you know, was unavailable for that game because he's another one of those dudes that's kind of helped them have their little renaissance. And the fact that it feels like that renaissance may be ending, we don't know what Rutgers is going to do from here. They could go four and 16 in the Big Ten or you know they could they could plot their way to ten and ten maybe, but for them to have that after the white November went for them. Yeah, that was something else..

"Hand he played in the ws oh peak closer versus darah all the news and results first poker staking and selling action. When as many of you probably know. Darren i did quit stating between two thousand twelve and twenty seventeen and a lot less since this has come up occasionally on the show during interviews but we have never actually do a deeper dive into how it all worked why we did this way. We stopped doing it this week. Paul seton has published the first of two articles for gamble online. The first on selling and the second on staking for as he interviewed down smith he also asked interview us and a good synergy on the race so we thought why not do a piece on the topic with paul to turn the tables on us and have our interview right now on air. It's two topics really so we thought we'd split it up and start by talking about selling action on the next episode. We will talk about staking. So they're further. Do welcome back to the show seton. Thanks very much guys. I feel the guests element of this show just went up to three notches on the hosting Down to three dollars his apologized. Many fans are some slick host to put well researched questions but the guest. Is these guys doing well. That's literally the obser- darris adare said. Oh paul is going to be asking questions A huge improvement. And yeah. That's what i'm thinking here coming off chip race where david managed to change the horde into strategy. Segmenting every single straight. That was just a test people at darah. Yeah i mean we've kind of brushed your alcoholism onto the it is actually starting to affect your performance. Now i haven't been drinking today. Yes okay paul. Hit a cake. Well the first question is quite easy in just goes back to what you were saying. You start it's taking probably between twenty two thousand seventeen. But i wonder if you can each remember. The first time are sold at auction at your feelings were about doing so is there any doubt was something he just flew into confidence. The first time i ever sold action. I do remember it was for my i d. I wasn't really ruled. Free petits at the time but one of the top poker players in our run me up and said he was interested in buying a big piece indie potato so i ended up setting fifty percent of myself and turning it into rosary modest by international. It was more common the time but it was fairly new back then. Seemed to be most What that was a poker player looking to have a sweat. Apart from the fact that he was playing the event himself it was very ad hoc like that people have already any idea of what the correct markups should be. So yeah. I think that was two thousand nine. Roughly yeah when i look back i would say that it was definitely an online event and it was probably relatively small cleaning things where you know you might satellite into. Ns tops or w coup or something like that online. And then it's sorta seemed prudent to maybe twelve and then maybe salad trumka's well. I remember the first proper Was twelve and a half percent to a couple of friends. When i qualified for the full series in two thousand and nine i had my way from the twenty five dollars. Satellite to a to k package and in my mind that was trying to cover the cost to go to the live events. I thought it'd be smart. 'cause i wasn't old at the time i was right in growing your mode when it used to play forty five months and this was for chefs and yeah went very well and i ended up having to my friends..

"Colleagues and call how a graduate of seton hall university in psychology and seton hall. Yeah that's spelled s. e. t. o. n. Yeah here's a. B. a. in psychology okay. He is a serious student of espn and consultant to clinical psychologists. He claims his ability in psycho. Sonics stems from the application of skills which are dormant and unrealized and millions of people. It's always fun to find one of these terms that someone was trying to make happen like trying to make fetch happens and it's like well that never caught on. I like this one though psycho sonics sonics and by the way seton hall is in new jersey which is where he lives there. You go figure okay. What a coincidence now carry at the bottom. There is in bright red in all caps a little disclaimer here. No claims of mystical or supernatural powers are made for the equipment or devices supplied in this game. But i thought there were a few claims that the you're saying both things. Now what do i do. I guess i go by which thing you say way longer. Exactly the same kind of very very quick. Cover your ass. Cover your ass. Statement was made at the tail end of one of his amazing world of creston where he was hypnotized he was doing stage hypnotism where he'd have people coming up and then jumping out of their seats. Oh someone just pinched me. She pinched me. Oh the seats getting warm. And then at the very end after he's made all these big claims it says the proceeding program was presented solely for entertainment purposes and not to foster belief in supernatural phenomena of any kind everything. Cresskill does is accomplished by perfectly natural and scientific means. So it's like okay so if you read carefully or listen to some of the things he says you'll realize how this is all trickery but if you listen to what he says the other ninety eight percent of the time you'll you'll buy into him having legit powers right yeah. Disclaimers are a tricky thing when they are completely counter to the actual their counter audience. Yeah exactly okay. Given this back to you how to use the mystery pendulum okay. The mystery pendulum is a simple and intriguing device which is highly sensitive to even the slightest psychic talents. Well that's me. i have the slightest psychic pal. Go and it's highly sensitive to them so even if you had half of the slightest talents it would be sense those. Espn the size of of a mustard. See that's right then then exactly with some individuals the response will be strong and immediate while others will require more concentration in practice to get good action. that's all outcomes. I'm impressed over repeated experiment. It has been discovered that the pendulum will work all caps with anyone who will give it a sincere try. Okay so if it doesn't work it's my fault got it okay. Sincere sincere to us. The mystery pendulum follow these simple instructions exclamation mark. It is best for the operator to be in a quiet relaxed mental state. Quick get quite relax feel reasonably quiet and relaxed so carries already doing this but point as says hold the end of the metal chain by the metal ball lightly between the thumb and index finger allowing the plastic bob in quotes to hang freely with its point one to two inches above the table okay and carries already got it wildly waving about one to two inches wanna lower a little bit do not try to make the pendulum swing. It will move slightly in an radic manner. Even though you are not consciously forcing it to move place. The game board on the table open to the black. Yes no area okay. Let's put that out k now. I suspect this is going to involve something called the idiom motor effect which is my muscles responding to my brain while overriding the narrative. Part of my brain. So i am unaware of my muscles talking to me. Which is a very spooky effect. It's also how the would you board works. Very real effect Convincing very impressive k. so i'm holding the pendulum above the yes. No and okay. And it's it's going counterclockwise. Okay right now natural state at least for me and you're not forcing it. Nope not even encouraging now. I always wonder this though when they say like you know. Don't try to one of the things i automatically do is try not to let it move. Yeah that's a very good point. It's a very different thing to actively try to make it stop. Yes in fact in some of the performances. I've seen has talked about that. And then at times told people actively make it stop. Oh okay interesting. Yeah this is always also the problem. I have with noces where they're like. Raise your hands. And i'm like well if i'm if i'm trying to prove one way or the other should be resisting okay. Well now i don't want to. I don't want to be obstinate. And right what. You're trying to do right now but i also don't wanna just like give you a gimme right. I think too much. He can't serve thinking well. I'm going to clear my mind right now and well. I'm still thinking about thinking and this is difficult. Okay so place. The game board on the table open to the black. Yes or no area. Okay we have that now can suspend the pendulum over the place where the white lines cross so that the yes line goes in an up down fashion. I think that's true for you. And the no line is going across. Horizontally mentally concentrate on. Yes run your is up and down the line okay. Curious looking up and down that line the pendulum should start to swing up and down in the direction of this line. After getting a yes response from the pendulum. Stop it with your free hand or by touching the bob to the board. Haven't gotten there yet okay. Still circling still circling Should be getting yes. Swinging action getting closer. Okay sarah and even out. Yep oh yes yes. It's a subtle. Yes it's odd but it's happening okay. Stop it with my hands or by touching okay. Who if we've gone too far k. This is scary now. Concentrate on the no line until the pendulum swings back and forth along this line k stop the pendulum and think of the circle. Which means i don't know okay. Okay think at the circle. K which means i don't know or i do not wish to answer the pendulum. The pendulum move in a small circle for the correct response. My got it does okay and then there are those diagrams that you saw on the board which is helpful just in case like you lose this manual yeah practice until the pendulum responds by simply willing it to move by thinking of yes or no or hot. At no time should it be necessary to force. The pendulum swing by consciously moving it with your hand repeated. Trials by psychologists have proven. The pendulum will work. Whoa whoa that's bold statement. Try it with an open. Mind and seriously cooperate with these instructions. And i've got to say this all works very well for me I don't have to try it all just kind of think. Yes it should be moving this direction. It'll start doing it. Yeah there are multiple systems in your body and some of them. You're narrative mind has almost no contact with and we're talking about micro muscular movements like so imperceptible really. Inflight Passenger Safety

"So i'm not going to cover covid stuff instead. What i want to talk about is just how to stay safe when you're traveling because it could turn out that cova dover and it's been a long time since you've traveled and maybe you could use a refresher in. What are some proper intelligent things to do when you're flying as a passenger so one of the first things you should do as a passenger is pay attention to that safety briefing. You've heard me say this before There's a safety information card in the seat pocket in front of you and that safety information card has a lot of really important information. I can tell you that. In in forty years of being an airline pilot. I have always taken that safety information card out and read it carefully and very often said surprisingly very often. I've learned something new and it could be that the equipment has changed a bit. Procedures have changed. Could be that. It's been a long time to flown. And you're not aware that there's this Path lighting in the floor Tau guide you to for example so all of that is in the safety information card. And you'll find that you may be flying A similar airplane all the time but it might be different enough that the emergency exits operate differently for example on early seven thirty sevens the over wing. Exits are plug type. Exit's where you remove the you remove the hatch and stow it inside the aircraft to get out onto the wing and in the modern seven. Thirty sevens eight hundred nine hundred there hinged at the top and say just pressing handle and the door opens up outward so things like got. It's really a really good idea to pay attention to the safety information briefing and i recommend that you take the safety information card out and of course you've disinfected it before you. You know when you got your seat. Like i talk about an episode for thirteen. Take the safety information card out and look at it during the briefing. And what you will do is you will encourage the people sitting near you to do the same thing. They'll feel less sheepish. And embarrassed if they see you doing it. And like i said It can have some residual benefits of Getting treated really by the flight. Attendants you're probably the only person in the airplane paying attention to the briefing so pay attention to the briefing and when the briefing is talking about exit signs and exits around and find the exit. Nearest your seat. So what i do when i get on the airplane is i'm looking at you. Know the signs above the seat and rose that tell you what seton what seat number You should be looking for I count the number of rows between the over wing exit and my senior between the front door the front exit and my seat or between the aft exit and my seat. I want to count the number of rows because it could be that. I need to get out of that airplane in a rush at night or in a smoke filled cabin where it's hard to see signs because remember. Those exit signs are up in the ceiling by the doors and smoke rises. You might not see the exit sign so if you count the number of rows between the closest exit and your seat you're really miles ahead of every other passenger in terms of saving your own life. So you're going to obviously disinfect. Seat belt buckle Before you use it Keep your seatbelt on all the time. Unless you need to get up and go to the lavatory. Keep your seatbelt on. And i know it sounds ridiculous that they have to tell you how to operate a seat belt on an airplane but when you think about it. It's different from the seat belt your car. The seat belt in your car. You simply press a button and the seat belt releases and the seat belt on an airplane you have lift the lift the buckle so it is different and you need to know how to do that because typically in an emergency we revert back to old habits

"Well. They pulled the rug out from under parlor. Parlour is suing This in the way of the capital riots. Last wednesday as president trump finds himself well pretty well summarily buried land from social media and it begs the question if they can do to the president. Don't kid yourself. They can do it to you to six thirty eight now thirteen ten. Kfi a thirteen ten kfi k. A. dot com northern colorado's voice mornings with gail via the auto collision specialists studios. So it begs the question once again. How did big tech get so big and so powerful. You have elon. Musk calling them. The defacto arbiter of free speech. Seton motley is the president of less government. This is a dc based nonprofit dedicated to reducing the power of government and protecting our first amendment rights and seton. If i'm not mistaken. I think we can still find you on twitter and facebook. Write will kick me off about old a little over a year ago. Ironically here's here's where it wiggins totally ironic. I was kicked off at the request. They person with fifteen followers an obviously fake name. Making fun of bruce willis and he is the tweets about what she could play in. The got kicked off were tweeting. Links to project veritas videos of twitter executives saying they ban conservative. I love it. it's really. It's the close of closes of close circle. Yeah all right. So let's work through this. How did big tech Get such a grasp on their social media platforms. How how did this happen. And even ron paul ron paul. Now of course facebook saying oh no. We just made a mistake. But ron paul was temporarily locked out of his facebook page for violating community standards. Whatever that is of course remember what he wrote about will remember what they blocked. It was a piece about the censorship of big consistent. Yes no this is. I've looked back at the history now. And so you know. Section to thirty is the reason they're those big high. The reader's digest version on section to section to thirty protects in united is websites from liability lawsuits by legal liability for third party content. Third party content of course is us of not youtube posting us posting on youtube not us not facebook posting us on facebook and this applies to everything and applies a libel and slander. So i go on facebook and say gales a jerk. You can't sue facebook for saying gals jerk yet to deal with me And they you know if you to someone post on youtube an entire movie which is of course they i. Intellectual property violation youtube out to pull it down when they're notified of it but they can't get sued for intellectual property violation. Because they didn't do it. I did not sounds like a good idea in theory however and you know the these morons say that intellectual pro you know the internet we know it exists because of section. Do their the end. They're right. the problem is there are lots of things that exist as we know it that shouldn't like government schools for example The the internet if sexy do went away will be trillions of dollars. A year of commerce conducted on. It just wouldn't happen with the comment. Section sixty to thirty didn't create. The internet created the internet comment section. And as we all know the internet comments section is the sewer of the internet and social media platforms are nothing more than glorified comments sections now i years ago there was an event in dc discussing how to deal with Social media censorship Big tech censorship. They talked for an hour and a half to people. Wants a libertarian moron. Who thinks everything's fine just as it is and there's other guys crazy it seems wilt chamberlain head of human events now and he seems to think government should run in and dictate speech to the websites. Which of course is absent onto and hour and a half. Neither of the mentions thirty at all. So i raised my hand. The things being live streamed on the internet. And i said yes ignoring the the king kong in the room the original sin of government section to thirty its giant cronyism. It's probably the biggest crony gift. Government has ever given any sector of the economy. And it's the reason they're doing all of this and i was livestream so i started getting screened business before i was being on twitter. I getting screened at on twitter for your by by by libertarians and right wingers and left wingers and home. I look you can't fix section because any attempt to meddle with it gets you into the very real problem of your dictating speech to the private sector the private sector. That's that's the first amendment violation you can't you know to paraphrase jesse jackson don't mend it ended. That's the only solution now. When i said this at the thing a conservative who had worked for ted cruz. Who left ted cruz office to go work for google which surpasses randers. Day turned to me and said without section thirty. We probably go out of business now. I have a question if need that much. Cronyism to exist as a business. Is it a conservative position to say. We should continue to grow any of them. Are you all you all the sudden in favor of free of fake energy subsidies solar only exists because the government money are you. That's all that's business. That's the business sector that exists only because the government cronyism should we continue to subsidize it because solar companies and companies would go away. I don't think so And conserve shouldn't think so and libertarian. Shouldn't they so So that's where we are. This is section two thirty now as we saw with the november election in the january election. What they what. The company's got in exchange. For all. This i mean they gave in exchange for all this cronyism course campaign contributions i would is it now. The democrats have solved that little impediment to their power. They just will cheat from here on out because we have republicans saying you can't mention that they cheated So this is the new quid pro quo. Democrats democrats show media silence conservatives social media sciences conservatives and they get government policy out of out of dc and that's the that means no sexual thirty adjustment let alone repeal no antitrust enforcement and we get a return net neutrality the these stupid policy which by the way the big big tech by doing all of this cherry picking so censorship of conservatives is violating a neutral net. Are they not are they not by winning. We'll of course the net neutrality. They're going to get doesn't apply the big tech. It only applies to internet service providers in one of the by the way one of the cash wrinkles and this is charlie.

"In a manner of speaking and has no social media means to communicate. I think that would be the worst thing that could happen to president trump but this second impeachment process roles on today. We're going to work through how that would work and what that's going to look like incidentally Senate of probably won't even take it up. There are some procedural rules that can be vote that it's Is there's a remote possibility they could take it out before President-elect biden is indeed inaugurated on january twentieth but the likelihood is that's not going to happen and as nancy pelosi very starkly said her intent is to make sure that president trump can never run for political office again. Well here's where it gets kind of interesting because even if this is a stretch even if we know. Those articles of impeachment are going to pass in the house right and at least three. Gop lawmakers are breaking the party and saying yes they will indeed vote for impeachment simple majority vote in the house heavier lift over in the senate but even if the senate were to take this out and where to vote to convict they would also have to turn round afterwards and launch another initiative because nothing in the impeachment articles says one single word about president trump. Not being able to run for office again now that would have to turn around and draft a whole new set of articles stating just that bit of stretch. Sixteen now thirteen. Ten k- a thirteen ten k. What is happening with the Uighurs in China?

"In China's northwestern province of Xinjiang the government has locked up more than a million workers a Muslim minority in a vast gulag. The whole province is a surveillance state within a surveillance state. The government claims it's de radicalizing population prone to separatism. People in Xinjiang in your happy life people call for older to restored each in. China of course, is strongly opposed to any torture and prosecutor and discrimination of any avenue. Good people. This is not the case in. Child. The reality is that it's carrying out crimes against humanity. We're going to take a look at how the repression is tearing families apart and preventing leaguers from even having families. We'll speak. With. googlers forced always to look over their shoulders. And will find deeper complexity in the party's ethnic repression on a visit to a tourist town in south western China. Own. The government is persecuting not only adults but hundreds of thousands of children to. Reporting by the Economist has unearthed government documents that show not de Radicalization. It's a campaign to crush the weaker. Islam. Faith to erase their cultural identity to chip away in their minds and in their bloodlines at what makes them weavers. It's difficult to get firsthand accounts of what's happening. Clearly the weaker inching John are unable to speak. But some brave souls have managed to escape and to tell their story. Our China Affairs at its her Gotti Epstein has been speaking to one of them. Presume Daoud and her three children, Fridays? We're probably the most terrifying day of the week. That was the day when officials would question students and schools in. The interrogators were looking for clues about the students lives at home. They wanted to know whether parents prayed or used Islamic greetings or talked to the children about the Prophet Muhammad. If the answers were in satisfactory they could result in a family member being sent to what they call a vocational training centre. or The camps in Xinjiang New Gulag. One Bologna. Bake. As. Miss Dogwood told me her children would be nervous that they would answer. Wrong. And get her sent back to the camps where she spent two months in two thousand eighteen. Kept. A. Terrible. saw. The Donald Families Experience in this regard is is quite common and Chin John. Absolutely. People Focus when talking about the workers on the detention camps but really Xinjiang is an open air prison. For twelve million dollars, their surveillance both low tech and high tech Miss. Dodd Dawood told me of an APP installed on her phone and where afterwards when she. Used traditional Islamic greeting on the phone. She was called minutes later by her. Local police asked her why she did that. Victim get little bug Emerson S Allama. amendment. Get. Across the region, families will be appointed to write and read articles praising Seton King. Others might have to write and read hands to ethnic harmony and some have to praise other policies that the party is imposing on them including the placement of quote unquote Han relatives in their homes and given that much of this has has come out now in how do officials in an Giang justify that that level of surveillance Chinese officials say that they are doing this in the interests of the weaker pupil they say that they are fighting the three evils of terrorism extremism and separatism. They say, they are making Xinjiang's safer and they say they're making the weaker pupil happier. But in reality, the experience of workers in the camps and even outside the camps is one not of training for the workforce but of indoctrination of trying to strip them of their relief, zero city or of any sort of cultural practices which stripe them as efforts to be distinct and separate from China. So what happens to those who were deemed to broken these many tiny rules? Well, leaguers like Ms Dour are placed in the camps Kerr offenses was for. From Pakistan, where her husband is from visiting. Pakistan. A number of years earlier. Accepting money from a foreigner who has a family friend who lived in China and securing an American visa these are all things that police asked her about a four sending her straight off to a detention camp but she's apparent. I mean what happens to the children of Leaguers who are who are detained? Well, this is the problem that the Communist Party itself is having to face up to because they are struggling to deal with the children of the parents of detained in local work documents that we obtained the officials us a chilling tra- -nology to refer to children whose parents are being held by the state. They're called Don Kuhn or single hardship or swung double hardship depending on whether one or both parents. Has Been sent away and what the documents also reveals that they're struggling to keep pace. They want to place these children in boarding schools basically, and so they have spent a tremendous amount of money expanding boarding facilities at schools across sin John just in the last couple of years, and what are these schools like is not like kids version of the Gulag you described for adult that's not too far off I. mean. These schools many of them have high security fencing and that's even true of free kindergartens and they are places where the kids are kept. These are cited even in state propaganda sort of celebrated. But those kids are as young as months old the propaganda describes as being well fed well, cared for happy learning the national language. Chinese. The point of this propagandist to convey the notion that they are helping the. Wiegert children but obviously, the effect is much different. We've seen testimonies from Chinese teachers who volunteer work in these areas that described children in pretty bleak conditions and in terrible emotional states. But what do you mean by diluting the culture on the surface of it? This just looks like oppression does right and suppression, but it's pressure that's really designed to reduce the influence of the weaker people and even their numbers. Their policies supporting confirming ethic marriage trying to encourage weaker girls when the girl enough to marry Han men and their rewards associated with that those included job of flat or even keeping family members out of camp. And then there are other ways that they're literally trying to reduce the growth at least of the wieger population China enforces limits on families is in John. So women are being fitted with you at a much higher rate than the rest of China. Women with three children, which is the limit in rural. Xinjiang. are subjected to sterilization or a great risk of that. Ms Dawood yourself says, she was subjected to sterilization two thousand eighteen. The most abilities maintenance, this hustle bonetti based. So what do you think is going on here? Any seems the goal for the Chinese authorities is more than simply to to break the spirits of the weaker. I would say the situation meets every category of crimes against humanity literally has been defined by the Rome Statute International Criminal, court have forcible transfer population. You have imprisonment the prosecution against the identifiable group have the enforced disappearance of persons. It's a term that's codified international law and I think it's pretty clear and given that how should the world respond what is to be done about this? The most important thing is that governments need act they should offer asylum seekers. Should sanction officials in Xinjiang that are responsible issue banned goods made with forced labor I most important governments should speak up I think the right moment to call for action. You could see maybe China's cloud cracking a little under the weight of these horrific revelations. There are more people standing up to China and fewer standing with him today. There is a sign of hope for human rights and there is a sign of hope for the oppressed we were people in China.

"I'm Steven Seagraves. Joined by Seth Miller in Mahmoud gentlemen from the quarantine bunkers. How're you doing still granted? Yeah sets together. Yeah it was going to say is so you're in the power you're not really hunker. Yeah give up there with the gun. I do randomly decide to curse. Does that for no apparent reason? Just scream out obscenities. Is that what you mean or here? That would count more sure in. I had nothing to Hampshire said. Oh man how you guys making out during all this still chugging along during the weekend I broke my eighty S B receiver today. So that's the level. I've gotten to a good Tuesday. Six banks is it working. I think I may need to reclaim it. And it's going to give me a new code or something. I don't know a new. Yeah Yeah sometimes. Sometimes I feel like back when I was broken. His looking at aspirational trips. That's what I feel like now the book and then they don't because you can't I could. I don't know I'm not GONNA go. I realized that I have this Vietnam ticket on cafe. Then I it's still open but now it's in June it's not gonNA happen anymore Because it doesn't look like Hong Kong. Open up the border but at the same time my visa expires for Tom. September it'll be a full year multi entry. Yeah I did because I knew I was going back to get another visa visa on arrival at this point or you just ask them to drop the last leg. That's true that's true it could. The visa expired can just come in Hong Kong. I could see if they do that. They might be willing to cafe cafes being really good during this Yeah so we have a couple of listener questions We'll go with Tom. Schindler's I he. He was thinking that Mileage Bookings on United Metal should count for million miler status. What do you guys think of that? Yes No phosphide. Keep them away. I mean how many how many how many reward flights are you taking on United Metalpha's Doug affecting avoid my only reason for it as a practical one of the goal is to is to in theory reward travel on united and I think the total number of miles anybody is going to redeem as award points versus cash. Tickets is relatively trivial but especially with the with the airline trying to keep more people on local medal for cost reasons. Why not like? Is it really move the needle on how many people bump up million miler status if not does it? Does it not show like a nice little gift back to the consumers? Yeah it's hard to program but they don't give points for it and so they'd have to figure out a new way to sort of system would you say. Would you want? That's easy to do now because your status is no longer by on miles anyways. Just credit the miles. The only thing that will increment is the million mile conquer. You'd have to say the Award Mile Peace Right Credits. award While because it'd be easier at that anyways. Yeah good point on. Would you credit just button? Seton DISTANCE WON'T FAMOUS TENNIS CASH ticket. Right there's more classes Arizona's for no not at the merger would be nice. I think it'd be a nice thing for united to do I can see them doing it. Probably not based on the way things are going Maybe add years. I guess I guess my only other thought barriers. They've had years in office. Never get it but this seems to be good opportunity as they're doing other things like you know. Raising the Partner wants ten percent and removing award charge and things like that it seems like an easy little gift back. I look. I don't really have a problem with it. The only reason I have a problem with this I'd have a hard time burning my miles non-united metal right now. That's a one time I feel safe flying someone other than united. 'cause I'm not missing out anything emotionally. You'd have that problem exactly but I mean the reality is what what's what is it really by you rate. How much how? Many people are burning on united. And how many are you GonNa earn for twenty thousand points if you're looking twenty thousand twenty five thousand Mile Ticket? You're you're going GONNA earn a couple thousand best. Well I mean I think is like would you start booking trips to Singapore and Sydney with miles if if On united middle of this work because he would get to four million mile or a lot faster. No because it's going to cost me like four hundred thousand miles but but you can't hold them you can't. They can't take him with us. I know we can't take them with you before. Two thousand miles is still a lotta miles for fifteen hundred dollar ticket. That's true that's true man. Yeah any other thoughts on that for for our listeners. Enter young had actually mentioned this. We talked about injuries question on the last show. We actually got the question wrong. Sorry Andrew he was actually asking us. There's a theory out there or There's evidence that suggests that Mahane Air. The Iranian airline defied a ban on passenger flights between Tehran and Wuhan And that in turn had a spike in created spiking cases in Iran Did you guys read this story on foreign policy? It's pretty damning It's seems like they be Ryan Civil Aviation Organization Was part of it right so I mean it gets was there an international benefits to one. That's what I don't understand if like if the Iranian government permitted it. Why is this such a big deal if they chose to let that happen? I mean there were plenty of flights pulling people out right nonresidents of China. Repatriating people are those are running so could easily be flagged as that will on January thirty first Iranian government said that all flights were suspended to and from China but there were departure information and rival information out of Khameini Airport Tehran's airport and by Chinese airports shows that flights by Mahan Air continued for another full week including one direct evacuation flight from Milan. So how does someone Public file flight plan with the government and then three months later formats later. It's an issue I think. That's why the Civil Aviation Organization is being called out because they allowed it. Okay so it's not the airline that they're going efforts both because they said Mahoni or shouldn't have flown regardless.
