"This is radio boston. I'm john during and we start today with a move. From massachusetts congressman. Seth moulton that has sent shockwaves across the nation's capital and the world congressman molten the democrat and his colleague. Republican congressman. Peter meyer of michigan traveled to kabul on tuesday to conduct oversight quote unquote of the ongoing. Evacuations they are both veterans of the iraq war. The trip came as president biden continues to resist calls to extend the deadline to remove. All american troops from biden said yesterday that the us is still on pace to meet the current plan to complete the withdrawal by august thirty first six days from now the biden administration has expressed great displeasure over the congressman's unauthorized oversight. Expedition here to talk about the reverberations from molten actions. Yesterday david gergen former white house advisor to presidents. nixon ford reagan and clinton and the founding director of the center for public leadership at the harvard kennedy school where he also teaches david. Thanks for joining us on a good good to be with you again. So david. I'm mindful that congressman molten belongs to us here in the commonwealth. People are very angry with him. some are what. What was your reaction when you heard about the trip. I was surprised. I was among those who had no information in advance about it. But i'm in retrospect. I'm not surprised as south. Molton and peter. I didn't know peter well. But i've known south for twenty years. I got to know him when he was a harvard. Undergraduate and to peter gums. Who is a pastor harbor memorial church and sas was very involved in church And i was served as a mentor to money left The university graduated any joined up in the marine corps. I was surprised. How many people. Marv joining the marine corps voluntarily. But he did that. And and i think it's worth understanding doesn't just in terms of context. I think we've lost david. Think that bell tone makes it pretty clear that we have lost david so while we try to get him back. I'm going to give a little bit more context for the listener here. What try to get david back. He said that he was surprised. By the move But after thinking more not so surprised. The white house was surprised. It's one of the things that we will ask. David about in fact congressman molten and congressman. Meyer did not tell. The president did not tell. The white house did not inform the state department in the military that we know of of the trip prior to arriving there and that has actually been part of the controversy of this move and it's particularly surprising given the all democratic congressional delegation here in massachusetts. And what has appeared to be fairly unified in strong relationship with the biden administration. Which of course is also a democratic administration now molten has been critical of president biden throughout this withdrawal process. He's been very clear about that. There have been articles written about it extensively just in the last two or three days but It's a little bit surprising to catch the white house. By surprise on a visit of this magnitude especially during an evacuation David do we have you back..

"The armstrong and getty show. It's not the greatest. Look we've got other taliban says nope and president biden has to say no. You could also look at this as a tremendously humiliating moment of american humiliation. Leaving forced to leave on the taliban's clock. History will judge this moment. A has a very dark period for the united states. The lefty media beating up on the biden administration news just came out. The pentagon has Disclosed that they may helicopter rescue of less than twenty americans somewhere around the kabul area. Evidently we are going out in the cover of darkness and and grabbing people when we can since they can't make it to the airport. Lindsey graham has been outspoken on some of this stuff. he's an old friend of joe biden. Wants call them the most decent person he knows. There's something to that effect but man. He's just murderer them lately. Clip sixty number. One you've got the by spreads in the united states talking about what you should do for christmas in the middle of the biggest blunder since nine eleven isis and al qaeda gotta be licking their chops. After hearing. this what happened here. Biden made a political decision to get everybody all the troops out by september. The eleventh he didn't care about those who helped us. He didn't think through how to get the american citizens out i. He had a political goal. And when the taliban were advancing he didn't realize this puts everything into chaotic environment. You know lindsey graham's and interventionist in You can call them a o'connor whatever people who've said he's never seen a country doesn't want to invade But i think he's right this time. Just the way it was handled is so terrible. Let's give them one more shot and sixty one s over it is over. Joe biden is made up his mind. He's capitulated to the taliban. Everything that ollie. North said is right. We should do but we now let thousands of people behind and we're setting the stage for another nine eleven. Joe biden created perfect storm to abandon those who helped us create another nine eleven for this country. You know what. I'm worried about in christmas. I'm worried about an al qaeda or isis attack against the united states coming from afghanistan. That's what i'm worried about this christmas. These south carolinian went on to say that. Joe biden should be impeached quote over america's withdrawal from afghanistan which he called the most dishonorable thing. A commander in chief has done in modern times. This dereliction of duty by the commander in chief. This makes it harder to fight future wars. Who's going to help us in the future after we abandon our friends in afghanistan who fought bravely etc. I don't i don't know if you can impeach somebody for bad decisions pete. Somebody over anything as we learned Whether you should or not as a decent enough question i still say biden is not long for the office depends house. Dementia progresses depends on if they're able to hide it at all. They're probably frantically trying to pound information and perspective into the head of the giggling vice president just the democrat party. Just gotta be terrified of the look. The look of having the the senile chief executive step out of the way in favor of just such a mediocre woman. I was talking to a handful of really conservative. People there bona fide eases conservatives. Trust me when i say. They are untouchable. They were one hundred percent in agreement they would much rather have hillary clinton in charge of the comma harris. I mean hillary's wrong. A lot and is solis and mean. But she's smart as both. Yes yes ma'am and she's smart as a whip and at least has an idea how the international thing works now again. She's wrong about a lot of stuff. I'm not saying. I like hillary but compared to kamla hairs. How could you not choose. Hillary yikes cripes. What a situation to be in one more afghanistan note and then we can talk about some other stuff Did you hear about this. A couple of members of congress made an unannounced trip to afghanistan on tuesday to personally witness the evacuation operation there at the soon to be renamed hamad karzai airport. Seth moulton is a democrat. And peter mayer made the trip which according to the new york post infuriated the white house and the pentagon in state department officials who accuse them using vital resources in the midst of the got american withdrawal. I personally believe. And i know jack believes he sees run off to take care of some family business but the idea that congress people would personally observe. What's going on and bring back a bipartisan report. On the reality of a critical life and death situation is terrific to me. I think it's fine especially given the dishonesty in the dissembling in the the weird mealy mouth statements of what is plainly not true by the administration. We've received no reports of the tally and keeping people from the airport. And then immediately on all the alphabet networks them going to the reporters in kabul and saying the president just said that is that true. No that's not true at all in fact it's the opposite reality. It's brutally difficult to get to the airport an incredibly dangerous so in a situation like that where you just can't trust the damn word coming out of joe biden's mouser or the increasingly tested. Jen psaki. I love the idea of republican democrat. Both of whom are veterans by the way traveling to afghanistan molten and meyer democrat from massachusetts republican from michigan warned in a joint statement that. Us forces quote won't get everyone out on time even if the withdrawal deadline pushed back to the original idiotic. September eleventh date quote as members of congress. We have a duty to provide oversight on the executive branch. Yes you do quote. We conducted this visit in secret. Speaking about it only after our departure to minimize the risk and disruption to the people on the ground we were there to gather information not to grandstand so also worth pointing out that. They made sure they were not getting on full flights and denying it. Anybody seat Whether incoming or outgoing The to lawmakers both the vets as we mentioned and members of the house armed services committee appropriate remained at hamad karzai international airport for several hours after arriving from the u a e the journey angered administration officials. Of course. how dare you question the bureaucrats of washington who actually run this country. Who have all the power. How dare you represent the people of america in a place and at a time where americans are dying for apps horribly at the hands of these brutes getting back to the the post the journey angered administration officials the ap reported because molten. Meyer did not give a heads. Up to diplomats or military commanders directing ongoing efforts to get americans and their afghan allies out of the taliban control. Count country oh. Of course you want to tip off the brass the high ranker's at the state department and the defense department. Hey we're going to be dropping by to see how things are really going so if you could like take awhile to spin and fix it and make sure we only go to where you want us to go. Fair warning will be there. In a couple of days that would have been idiotic. They were there as the eyes and ears of the american people. I think it was a great thing they did and they said some really inspiring things about our young marines and soldiers there in country to. We'll share that with you when we come back. Sarah strong and getty. Hey guys this is. Actually i and been almost famous podcast. We have such a fun episode with some of your bachelor favorites things to gap home. Ginsburg's Last Wish Was To 'Not Be Replaced Until a New President Is Installed': Report

"Gave her life much of her life to the law and 27 years as a Supreme Court justice, you, Khun! Disagree with how she, you know, ruled on certain things and many, many people have. Ah, but clearly she deserves the respect and obviously the sadness of her passing tonight, which we are hearing. We're goingto like I said, We're going to give you some more. Ah little bit of a taste of some of the statements and people speaking now that have been coming out well, kind of dip that in throughout the rest of the show, But your calls are important, Dawes 617 to 5 for 10 30 Bill is in Watertown. Hi, Bill. Hi. I want total this comment that I made on some of the reports. I've heard that roof skate have been. Ginsberg herself, said that she wishes people would wait until after the election secures the replacement it let's just say, she said that under this current climate I believe she may have said that. But believe me, I feel strongly my opinion that this is a Democratic administration right now. Her her wishes toward the end of her life would have been at this moment. Please rush and replace me with a similarly predisposed justice. The instinct to think that somebody would actually say in some report somewhere I've heard over this flurry of activity the last couple hours. That that she actually said that who cares if she said it? She's smart enough to know that it is the obligation of the reigning majority to fill that seat, and that is their presidential obligation. Fill that See lickety split. That's the way it goes to the victor goes the spoils. This is a function of the president to fill that feat, the president or anybody else. Oh, nobody and any idea apology or duty of etiquette? To slow it down to do anything other than fill that seat as fast as possible. Yeah, well, I mean, I mean from the purest form, Yeah, the Senate is controlled by Republicans. The president is a Republican. And that is that's the way it does Go. I can understand other people saying, Hey, let's calm down and let the you don't look, let the body watch how many times what? How many times you hear this Come up that that Ruth Bader Ginsburg said. Oh, can you wait till until after your watches that nonsense and try to play on this emotion that I don't like the way we are approaching on one of the most Balto elections ever? Is it to be resolved ASAP. Get this replacement the pipeline? Yeah. Oh, I mean, it's going to get the pipeline of me. There's no question the president's going to nominate someone in the Senate is going to vote on it. And there is there is a question a lot of questions out there. We don't know what is going to do well, we all right, there's a strong likelihood, the president you know, the president is gonna nominate someone that's pretty much already been made Clear and The Senate majority leader did say they'll vote on the nomination. So now whether there'll be a lot of stone throwing and other things going on in Washington during that time, that probably will happen, too, but that we know that as of what we're hearing out of Washington that the Senate majority leader has already said that the Senate will vote on the president's nomination, so I think that's a pretty foregone conclusion. Bill. Listen, I appreciate the call. We're going to be up against the news, so I don't want to keep you touching them upon what Bill said. And obviously, Justice Ginsburg nor anyone else on the Supreme Court has spoken to me period in a statement tonight, and there's probably others there's so many statements. I can't possibly read them all to you. So I'll go with the one that I happen to have in front of me that I have spoken from earlier. This is from Congressman Seth Moulton, Massachusetts Congressman Bolton In his statement, he says Justice Ginsburg dying wish was that she not be replaced until a new president is installed. That's it. I'm reading a statement. Now. Bill disagree that she said that on her deathbed, I have no idea. She didn't talk to me about it. She might have said to somebody who then referred it to other people and said, Well, this is what she said. I don't know again. She didn't say to me, but it is in that statement. And I know as Bill mentioned, it's been echoed by others s O that it's what it is. You take it for what it is because we we should report on what people say and that I just did. That's what was said. Not a justice Ginsburg actually saying that I don't know. I just read what it says there. She shouldn't tell me. Get get you up to date on some news and then we'll be back on night side of WDC.

Trump says he will raise U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods

"You have no choice but to vote for me because your 4._0._1._k. John cage down the tubes. Everything's gonna be down. The why is the market went down the tubes today. The president joked today suggesting reading in a tweet that they were reacting to democratic candidates seth moulton leaving the presidential race whoever that may be he said in his tweet seth moulton by the way volunteered to serve this country in war and risked his life doing so risk of course the president refused to bear during the vietnam war. We're not sure how many millions of americans americans watching their 4._0._1._k.'s today. We're laughing more on all of this now from c. n. N.'s abby philip who joins us from the white house abbey what is going on today with this president. Is there concern inside that building about a series of decisions that do not see even to serve the president's interests or the country's interests well. The president at the moment seems to be committed to this trade war with china in fact so much so that he is doubling down on a strategy that a lot of people including shooting some within the white house believe is contributing to the economic uncertainty but it's also clear jim that president trump is worried about the economy he has been lashing out <music> at jay powell the federal law federal reserve chairman who he appointed to that job insisting that powell is responsible for the fact that the economy seems to be slowing and his economic aids are also warning him that by twenty twenty there could be an economic slowdown we've had g._d._p. And and job growth numbers that have not been as <unk> as rosy as the president would like and some of the comments that we've been seeing on social media <hes> his comments about democrats egging on a recession are due to his concerns concerns that this could become a political problem for him and perhaps looking for others to blame it on than himself. What more specifically are you learning about. The terrorists that the president's announced announced late today against china these are significant they are and they add onto what already exists out onto what is coming in the near future now white house house aides the president and his advisors met and huddled in the oval office today to try to come up with some kind of retaliatory plan in response to these chinese tariffs chris and what we're seeing now is that some of the existing tariffs are going to go up from twenty five percent to thirty percent and tariffs that were planned. They planned to go into place on september number. First a three hundred billion dollars worth those tariffs are going to go from ten to fifteen percent so all told the five hundred fifty billion dollars in goods from a chinese companies coming into the united states are going to be tariff or taxed and those taxes are increasingly being borne by american

story because of god forbid something happens she passes you know then there's gonna be a you know there's going to be another conservative Jess is a bring court let that might upset a number of Chris Cuomo last night and he said it's like a hostage crisis inside the building everybody at work should absolutely hate this guy's guts but they're scared out of their minds to say anything what I mean is firing of people if you say something you're probably out right right but but he said but this guy saying that he's he's just completely and totally on that he could have left the White House right this well shot they got about his business but I think he's so infatuated with being on television and being interviewed this is the only way anyways we'll talk to him as I say early you said something set him off to where he was against trump it was the fact that he was irrelevant yeah that's a the money needed some some way to get back in the spotlight yeah looks like trouble the truths and hold it down I know I have extreme hate and anger toward president trump may they be shown differently president trump is the greatest president of this century just take a stand liberty and justice for all well they travel to Japan clearly the greatest actor of our lifetime I've said it before and I'll say it again midnight cowboy was with the greatest movies I ever saw and because of one person that person right there Jon Voight testing testing yeah what do we do but the way he was speaking he was always speaking like he was clergy a sermon let it was it was a servant let us pray way you know yeah it sounded very you know I mean yeah no you're right so you got you got him saying that you get this other radio talk show host I forgot the name he's saying something root root Wayne Allen lane roads right now you've got a top surrogate for president trump who holds a senior campaign position and I was saying on Wednesday that the president has done more for women than anyone else she can think of besides Mother Teresa wow Hey let's do it daily for this week so far think of the Jews the chosen one can go for the women the second coming of Mother Teresa said **** eighty so much of a looker the lady then the last week a good week that I could tell you good week I am okay so he's done more for women then anybody besides Mother Teresa I take issue with that I think of the more than mother Theresa home the poor people the lepers but I've done more for women that nobody loves women nobody knows women support is truly yeah possibly by the way according to a CBS poll last month they found that forty two percent of women think the president's doing a very good was somewhat good job fifty eight percent of female respondents said he's doing a very bad job training uses some work to be done there I mean the but obviously this is one of his top supporters and I was saying all this I want more a truck related story Michael Jackson's former manager said yesterday that the the cease these these icons will is missing they can find the will my house is related to well tell you the second row ray moaned ray moaned bane the late singer's former spokesperson the manager told reporters this conference she didn't have a copy didn't know where the copy could be found of the will she was I don't have it I don't know where it is I wish I had hoped and I have prayed that Michael Jackson's will would be found reveal discovered drop from the sky because it it painstakingly he painstakingly offered how he wanted his legacy to be preserved and maintained then she wanted to say to you hope that president trump would help in search of the will that that that that she's tried everything and that maybe the president that trucks are you gonna do can intervene thank Chubb you in Japan Hey I want to get done model to do what you like to search for stuff do you look for that and would take the allegedly said during the apprentice but Michael Jackson as well I don't even want to get involved it is how I read this thing she wants to find the well why because she thinks she's in it what else would you want to well right right yeah she thinks that she said in his but what's from going to those like abilify and the well to his job and he's got he's going to clear the national emergency and put the homeland security all on it right the space for side maybe the will was shot into a base of the orbit here's a story I can actually agree relate to here hi Lilian was fired from his job at KFC this week the six year old IBM of Joshua Moser from Valparaiso Indiana was fired from his job at KFC and he responded by grabbing and I've been going after his boss I can relate to this you know my style well you know the story I went to KFC when I was like seventeen and I still don't know if I got fired or quit I think it both at the same time at the same time but my manager used a racial slur towards one of my coworkers will make a chicken in the back and call them well he called me in with basic is what he called a and I got very very angry I was a different kind of the guy back then that is mellow as I am now and I grabbed the manager and drag them across that grease laden floor and that put his head over the price had shown him well I told him I said either apologize who's gonna live deep fried manager as a special he apologized and I no longer with the K. F. C. so this guy went after his boss he granted I see I don't do that but other I used to come down but just we did manage to step is both in the right hand and arm that's what I call a you know as someone who's easy you know is a go getter right yeah then the cops call them.

"Just heard from representative Seth Moulton who told us about some of his concerns regarding the push left within the Democratic Party and what it could mean for Democrats twenty twenty. He's not only worried about nominating Democrat Democrat who can beat president trump. He's worried about his colleagues who sit in vulnerable districts and risk losing the majority control of the House. At the end of last month. I was at the Aspen ideas festival and I talked to someone who understands how difficult it is to be a Democrat from a red state. I think it's important that I lay down some street cred on this. You know I grew up in a town called manager North Dakota. It's a town of ninety people when I grew up there. No it's not ninety thousand for all of your listeners who think that's a small town. It's ninety. People in my family was one tenth population. That's former senator. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota heitkamp lost her seat in two thousand eighteen to Republican challenger Kevin Kramer. I asked her what people need to understand about rural America and she had something she wanted to clear Rep. I grew up in a family that was really interconnected with that community. My my dad built the ballpark built the literally built the park system and and fix furnaces for everybody and made sure that Mrs poster had her shovel walk so she go to church every day and so I think there's a a romanticism that people have about rural America that <hes> that only only in rural America does that happen and I've lived in every place in every place that I've lived. I've known my neighbors and they've been good people and they would give you the shirt off their back and watch your host for you and take out your garbage whenever you need garbage taken out and and and so I'm not one of these people who says this is the real America so I just want to lay that don't but I think it's misunderstood America because people look at voting patterns they look at you know poverty levels they look at what seems to be kind of a throwback to a different time and they assume they know what Israel America and I think over the years the Democratic Party has distanced itself from those challenges and has really focused on building a base in urban and suburban America and that has cost him dearly. I am convinced. Evinced cost them the last presidential election and in many ways has cost them the Senate and this movement to the left which you which we can argue about whether that's a good electoral strategy. It's a bad strategy in rural America because rural America tends to be more conservative not selfish conservative but just more conservative you pay your bills. You do what you're supposed to do and and and to be one of the things that we haven't understood well is the economy enemy of rural America but also the culture of Earl America and if you're going to get voters to vote <hes> <hes> with you you've got to understand these issues and actually speak to the challenges and as I said you can't just talk the talk you've got to walk the walk gotta show up and he can't show up empty handed but you did show up. I mean I met voters yeah from North Dakota. Who said Oh I love I._D.? Oh you know you're going to vote for her this year now but she's great. She's doing great stuff right so that eh you could be liked in your community and yet still lose despite the fact that they knew you Donald Trump won North Dakota by thirty six points. I lost North Dakota by ten so if the Democratic Party can just <music> speak to half of the folks who were willing to take a chance on me again in rural America they can be incredibly successful in places like Ohio wouldn't give up on Ohio. I do not give up on Iowa. I don't give up on Wisconsin New Hampshire. which I think could potentially be in play think we have to be really careful about thinking that there's only three states that we have to worry about the most important thing I can tell to? My colleagues who are running for president is you don't have to change your message about what's important. In this country. You do have to look at different strategies and solutions for Rural America but what a cabdriver New York wants <hes> from his government or her government is not that dissimilar a similar than what a small business owner in rural America wants what I would hear throughout the twenty eighteen campaign what I continue to hear right now our folks either in rural areas or really egg-based areas that say they don't like the tariffs were immigration is a really important issue for them. They need the workers. The president is not helping not only is he not helping make their lives better but they're markedly worse. He's he's being reckless with theory and yet they continue to give him the benefit benefit of the doubt and it seems to me that the issue really isn't so much policy. It's the same thing it's identity that he's looking out for us and the Democratic Party isn't because they're spending too much time worrying about immigrants and people who identifies gay air lesbian or things like that I don't I honestly think that that the the that when you look at thirty six point differential <hes> that is enormous and it's driven by people really like trump is driven by people who historically have just voted Republican is driven by people who didn't like the alternative the people who didn't like the alternative I would say our our potential Obama <hes> <hes> trump voters and the question is how do you get those people to move back. I'M NOT SAYING WE'RE GONNA WIN Rural America but I'm saying there's incredible opportunities because this administration at not to win it but to to to move the dial because this administration has done things many of which you've just recounted here that have not not been economically good for people and and I think that once once you raised the the specter of character you may not get people who like the Bravada and like the tough talk but you will get people <music> who don't like lies who don't like family advantage because of the position that you have who don't like <hes> chaos. I you know I had I have a funny staying. Someone said well. What would you be saying? If you're ready running for President I said make government boring again. We're just all exhausted and I think Middle America's exhausted as well and so to me <hes>. We don't know how successful we're going to be at this but I do know that one year of tariff some some bad commodity prices this year. We're going to see it again and they're not going to get a crop because of what's happening with flooding the it's been good for corn prices because obviously when you take coronado production prices prices rise but at the same same token these are the same family farms that have gone through the grain embargo and saw that market loss forever and soybeans are major crash crop in many years of North Dakota. They're number. One and ninety percent of our soybeans. Go out the Pacific northwest almost all the China. It's interesting what you to describe what you mean when you talk about the Democratic Party moving to the left in some ways when I think about places like North Dakota or Minnesota where you had a populist right I mean we own a bank. That's the big about that North Dakota ah proudly brought by Republicans. They're proud of it every day. You used to be it used to be. That's the realignment on populist issues right so is in Elizabeth Warren message then going to appeal in those communities. I I think that that the biggest mistake that <hes> senator warns making in terms of broadening appeal is free stuff <hes> by that I mean I kind of called it the Santa Claus Plan which is I'm GonNa or maybe this Robin Hood Plan Plan. I'm GONNA take from the those people and I'm going to give it to you people even if they're struggling they wanna earn what they have. I think that's a universal desire. They want a level playing field but they wanna earn what the have and I think. The other piece of it is that people are cynical about politicians <hes> because for too often they've heard promises that will never happen that was former senator Heidi heitkamp coming up we remember Ross Perot and the influence his nineteen ninety two campaign had on twenty sixteen.

"He joined the ranks of Democrats running for president. I asked him what he felt was missing from the pack that he would bring to the race. I'm the only combat veteran in this race. Someone who's really lead troops in combat had to bring together Americans in some of the most difficult and divisive circumstances that exist today in the middle of the Iraq war where my job as an infantry platoon commander leading troops on the ground was was fundamentally to take this amazingly diverse verse group of Americans from all over this country with different backgrounds different religious beliefs different political beliefs and get them united behind a common mission to serve America and that experience of building a coalition of bringing people together other in divisive times. It's the hardest and the best job I've ever had and I think it is exactly the kind of leadership we need from a nominee to take on trump someone who has to build this coalition of everybody in the Democratic Party plus independent voters those Obama trump voters and even some disaffected Republicans and at the end of the day. I think that beating trump is going to be harder than a lot of Democrats think yeah. I've heard you say that before. What are Democrats either underestimating or overestimating about trump will first of all? He's a sitting president with a fairly strong economy now. I caveat the economy because it's not working for a lot of Americans but the top line numbers are good and he's going to run on that. When I go to parts of the country that we need to win the places where I can't pain for House House candidates in the last two years were myself and my organization serve America were a big part of winning back the house over half the candidates that <hes> flipped house seats to take control <hes> were folks that I supported and they were in difficult districts? Many of them fellow veterans running places where not a lot of Democrats go. There's a lot of support out there for trump and if Democrats don't offer an alternative that a unifying alternative not only are we not gonna be able to be trump but it's gonna be really hard or to pursue our agenda even if we do so there are a couple of people who seem to be making the same argument that you are one is people to judge who would argue. He's also served in the military. He's not I mean he's I. I really admire his service just to be clear. Yeah I led troops in combat <hes> very different experience. How so they'll look? He didn't important job. He was an analyst <hes> you know looking at terrorist networks or whatnot leadership in combat when you're asking young marine to risk their lives that's leadership experience that <hes> that is unique in this race you also have argued as you watched the first debate you were not on the debate stage either night but you watch the debate and said you thought that the Democratic Party was careening to the left. What did you mean by that well? I think a lot of Americans felt that watching listening to the debate that <hes> that there's sort of a competition to appeal to the party base while forgetting a lot of Americans that we have to win over if we're going to if we're going to have a majority in this election and and you know what comes through a certain issues like for example healthcare. I'm the only candidate in this race who actually get single payer healthcare because I made a commitment commitment to continue going to the V._A.. Even as a member of Congress because I said if my fellow veteran go in there and it's messed up and I'm in a position to help fix it then. I'm going to see it for myself so I go to the V._A.. And you know what it's not all that great I've seen the good the bad and the ugly of single payer health care through the V._A.. The good is that the V._A.. Negotiates prescription drug prices which Medicare does not but the bad is that I got sent home from surgery once with the wrong medications and the ugly is veterans dying on waiting lists are not getting to see the mental healthcare professionals they need before they commit suicide. That's not a system that I think we should force on every American I'm with President Obama where every American deserves healthcare but we should have a public option an optional public plan. Dan The competes with private healthcare plans and may the best plan win that competition is good for the system re surprised to see almost every hand raised when asked the question of whether to decriminalize crossing the border yes because I am on day one of my administration I would say there will be no kids in cages. There will be no family separations. I'M NOT GONNA wait for some law to be changed to make sure that that happens. Do you think we should decriminalize border-crossing. I want people to come to America legally Wrigley and I want them to be encouraged to come here legally rather than have this debate about decriminalising you know crossing the border illegally right. Let's just encourage people to come here legally by fixing our asylum system system by making sure that people get their cases judged right away and they can either get jobs and go on our tax. <HES> tax pay taxes like the rest of us because they're they are legal. He legally here because coming here through asylum is legal. If you're if you're legitimate limit or they're sent home right away but they're not kept in limbo. Let's make sure that we actually strengthened the border where it needs to be strengthened at at border crossings where we do have a lot of illegal drugs coming through but not building a silly concrete wall in the middle of the desert. Let's make sure that when we have immigrants come here as students on student visas that learn from our instant our educational institutions are universities that we don't then send them home with their degrees to use their education their American education in China to compete against us. These are sensible immigration reforms that we need to do. I think that just simply saying it's you know it's totally fine to come here. Legally is not the message that we want to send to America. It's not the message we want to send to the rest of the world. I have more of an existential question to ask you about well now just looking at the house we have a number of house members running this year which is a new thing. Usually you don't see members of the house running for Congress nonetheless this many and I also so noticed is you've got a number of you who got to Congress in sort of nontraditional ways you either beat incumbent Beto O'Rourke beating incumbent new beat Democratic incumbent. You beat a sitting Democratic incumbent Eric Swale well. L. Who obviously has since dropped out but he beat an incumbent <hes> or you've challenged the leadership in your party as Tim Ryan did from Ohio and you. What do you think this says about where our members are coming from or why is it that the members who are in some cases the outsiders right they challenge the system and now we're running for president? What does that mean because I think that we all believe that the status quo isn't good enough that that we need to move America Erica forward and there's a debate right now in the party about how to do that you know one of the things you saw on the debate stage is a is a group of Democrats saying we need to totally up end the system basically remake America from its foundations and I don't think that's right? I think this is it's always been a great but imperfect country but I think our fundamentals our values our constitution our strong. There's another group of people who just kind of want to go back to the way things work. I don't think that's right either. I think what we need is an update. You know it's sort of like America's because running on windows ninety five right now and you're certainly you're sitting here with your with your apple laptop. You're certainly not running windows ninety five. We all know that America's has kind of fallen behind and we don't need to completely change our fundamental mental foundations but we do need an update and that needs to happen now. If we do wait. We're just GONNA leave more Americans behind. I think that's the sense of urgency that you see with some of us who who looked at our home districts and said. I'M NOT GONNA wait for this guy to retire. I think we can do better today. I'm not GonNa just wait for our party leadership to retire the they've been here for a combined total of about one hundred years like let's get some debate here and and that's healthy for the party well. Let's talk about that because that debate seems to be happening you had argued for a while that Nancy Pelosi other members of the leadership needed to step aside. Let a new generation come forward. Obviously Nancy Pelosi won re election as speaker but we're now seeing this tension with these new freshmen members again many of whom beat sitting incumbents to democratic incumbents to get their jobs like Alexandria Cossio Cortez. Do you feel like you've been vindicated in your message that the leadership was out of touch with this generation. It's not a I don't think about being vindicated or not but I've argued since the very beginning since my first campaign that is time for a new generation of leadership in our politics and it's why I worked so hard to get so many new young voices into the Congress and I focused on the seats that we needed to win to flip the House <hes> these are <hes> people like mikey Cheryl Olympus Lock in <hes> Abigail Span Burger. Those are three fellow veterans who won really tough seats that we needed to take back to the flip the house and once I got here I said look I want them to have a voice in our politics two as a result of that debate you know we got some good things we got the climate change subcommittee. We got the voting rights subcommittee. We got an agreement on term limits from from leadership that <hes> <hes> that will ensure these voices rise up in the future but I do think that there's this urgency out there and there's a reason why American voters picked the most young diverse incredibly vibrant freshman class we've ever seen the House of Representatives and we want to make sure that we actually live up to that to that call but that tension is also apparent is well not just between Pelosi and what folks are calling the squad those younger members who are getting a lot of attention Chian Cossio Cortes to lead Omar but the the members that you mentioned in those swing toughest Republican districts aren't getting a whole lot of attention and the worry is that the focus and the messaging Jiang and the policy agenda of the more Liberal members is making it harder for members that you worked for in those swing districts to get reelected. Do you buy that. I do think there's there's there's tension there and it's important to remember that <hes> representative of Cossio Cortez's is great. She's offering some great ideas. I just had a nice conversation with her yesterday about post traumatic stress for example and mental health care but it's important to remember that you know she took out a democratic incumbent so didn't flip a seat. It didn't help us win back the house in the way that people like Abigail Bamberger and Mikey Cheryl analysts locking did and <hes> and also Max Rosen Jason Crowe and in a whole bunch of other folks who really wanted really tough districts in districts. That are going to be hard to hold on and if we want to maintain the majority so that members like the squad you revert to have a voice have it have a chance to actually get a vote on some of the policies that they WANNA put forward regardless of whether they pass then we gotta make sure we hold onto the majority and that should be our top political priority talk to me a little bit about your plans going forward. There is a debate at the end of July. Do you expect to be on stage there. You know we've met the polling holing criteria from the D._N._C. in nine different poles but they the latest thing they've told us as they're not counting those nine polls. I don't know what that means exactly. <hes> and I don't think it's a great idea to <hes> you know exclude a combat veteran from this <hes> from this debate. I think that these views need to be a part of the debate on on on today's there but you know what if that's what their rules are than than fine <hes> what matters is not what the Democratic National National Committee establishment in DC says. It's what the American voters say and my message is resonating on the ground when I go to to the early states like I was in Nevada over the fourth of July. I was in New Hampshire this past weekend <hes>. I'm getting a great response. I'm getting people who who say this is the kind of leadership we need to bring the country together and to move us forward. This is the kind of leadership in in tough divided times that we need to win this election and to go toe to toe withdraw Donald Trump on the debate stage and I think that's what Democrats ultimately want the nominee so as long as I still get that positive response on the ground from the voters who were actually GonNa make this decision <hes> I'm gonNA keep plowing ahead. You could also make the debate stage by getting a certain number of donors individual donors contributing right here campaign already close on that metric. We're we're moving in the right direction <hes> and <hes> we're certainly getting closer every day but you know that kind of metric plays to a certain part of the party that responds to the flashing light emails that it doesn't always represent everybody in the Democratic primary electorate. I was down to the Church in South Carolina Great Black Church with a wonderful preacher and <hes> amazingly engaged congregation and the preacher talked a little bit about my background at service and and why I'm running for president and a whole bunch of people came up afterwards and one of pictures with me. I said you know if you don't mind you know. Put these on facebook and share with your friends and they look we don't have facebook we don't even..

They're the real winners with regards to the democratic debate in Miami at the end of the month. This is because they're the only candidates for the democratic debate who did not qualify to participate in a debate, the debate will be a tight tonight affair with a nod at all unwieldy twenty candidates barely getting a word in edgewise, while Biden and Bernie yell at one another about who's got more, socialism crit think of it as an epic competition called game of woke. At least it keeps twenty Democrats occupied off the street where they could do real harm. Luckily for Bullock, molten and Masami. They don't have to pretend. They don't have to pretend to take the debate seriously. They don't have to pretend the other candidates consequential and most of all, they don't have to pretend that they actually think that they could one day be leader of the free world, and that is the minute. "That's amaCus. Amac dot US, go check them out right now. It is amazing how the media are trying to proclaim that even as it is a Ron that ratchet up tensions. It's really about from. It's really about from. This is not about President Trump is not about John Bolton. It's not about Mike Pompeo, all this is really about is the Iranian regime seeking to misdirect from their own failures of governance. And the fact that they are two radically awful regime, Democrats. Of course, are trying to push the idea that we're a moment away from war representatives. Seth Moulton democrat from ASA, -chusetts said going to war with Ron is not necessarily. Yes, we all agree, no one is interested in going to war with Iran. The question is what happens if Iran keeps upping, the ante and then the question becomes what sort of deterrence do? We need to use in order to ratchet down. He's particular tensions. Molten says, John Bolton and others. In the Trump administration are trying to drag us into Iran, just as they drag us into Iraq, blah, blah, blah, blah. This is such absolute crap. I mean, honestly, Donald Trump ran on the basis of George W Bush was a war criminal. I mean, I don't know if you remember this, but many of us spent years defending George W Bush as a non war criminal, and then Donald Trump ran in two thousand sixteen on the line, the George W Bush lied us into war, you think of that guy is desperate to go to war in Iran, and undercut, whatever remaining support. He has in American political life. No one is interested in war with Iran. But as president of the United States, it is also your test to ensure that the world economy continues to run smoothly that the straits of hormones are not shut down, and then America and for allies are protected that sometimes means threatening one of the world's worst regimes as. As opposed to simply giving them lots of money and hoping that they will become very nice, people who will then accept gay rights and stop hanging people from cranes, which was apparently the Obama administration strategy. It is amazing. Listen, Nancy Pelosi. Misspending Oliver time ripping on Saudi Arabia. There's plenty to rip Saudi Arabia about Saudi Arabia has pursued terrorism in the past Saudi Arabia is a human rights violator on a grand scale, but it is amazing that in the middle of Iran ratcheting up tensions is the Democrats putting pressure on the group. That is fighting the Iranians. That's an amazing thing. Here's speaker Pelosi doing this. I'm an appropriate left to our own devices. I believe is upset to before that the appropriation of bipartisan way can reach solutions, which still having the cat fight the lifting of the debt ceiling. We had the president transferring nuclear technology as well as other weaponry to a country that is getting away with murder, and he chooses to ignore it engaged in deadly war in which congress opposes she can put all the pressure. She wants on Saudi Arabia. It is a Ron, that is the true destabilizing force in that region. The reason Yemen is at war is because Ron decided to plunge that country into war now. It's not like him. It was a great place to live before that. But the who the invasion of Iran has invasion of Yemen has been awful for the country of Yemen. It's. Democrats do not have their priorities. Correct to say the very least. All right. Coming up. President Trump makes him statements about taking information from foreign sources. They are not good statements. They are not useful statements. He needs to stop talking if he wants to win reelection..

"Yesterday. CNN hosted town halls with democratic presidential candidates, Eric swale. Well, Tim Ryan and Seth Moulton. Yes. All all three candidates were asked the same question. Who the hell are you? Rowswell. Well. The entire town hall with mayor Pete yesterday. With Chris Matthews on hardball mayor Pete is far and away the best political animal in the field. It's just not even close. He's so much better at that. He's no. Kirsten gillibrand. Thank when I go to my son soccer. Brad zero percent. It's like when I go to my son soccer practice in the one kid just stands out is so much better than everybody else. Now get some of these idiots in their cancers. And you can see their minds, crunching various answers consultant, till say about this anyway, we're a long way off five hundred eighteen days until the election. Although we're just couple of weeks away from the first debate Kia came up with an interesting idea. They're going to recreate some of the famous living rooms from television. There's only three that they mentioned here. So I don't know. Only three but three that I've seen the pictures are pretty cool. This is the friend of the Simpsons living room. That's what will look like you can get everything that the Simpsons living room has. That's funny. The couch, the crooked sailboat picture the lamp, the purple end table. The green just everything the funky of throw rug has a nice touch if I were me as I like twenty eight year old I would so do that in my apartment. Just why not this is the friends living room from the television show, friends. Just looks exactly like where they say it is amazing, and everything will walls help everything you can buy a package, and then the TV show stranger things which I don't actually know but you can do that. Also tried to get into that. If that's your thing do that. My recommendation recommendation. Do that thing later, this hour will play you Elizabeth Palmer of CBS news in TNN square asking young people about the massacre thirty years ago today, and what they know about it. And that's pretty interesting carrying around a picture showing people, the picture of Tiananmen Square saying, do you know what? This is. That's a dangerous game. She's playing no kidding. And how, how would they know what it is because the government has gone out of its way to make sure you can't know what it is? The fact that they've been that effective is astounding. It is. I mean you can try to keep something out of circulation, but it's very difficult to do, especially today. In the New York Times how for weeks they have been rounding up either people that were involved in it back thirty years ago, parents of people who were involved in it any activists who've written anything about it. They're all either in jail or under house arrest may can't be out and about causing any trouble. What if what if one hundred of them gathered together and Tiananmen Square? Can't have that. And with as we talked about earlier with their modern technology, they can make that happen. They can keep people from other ever gathering again, which is really troubling. Got if the world ever comes under that sort of sort of totalitarian, leadership, it could never get out, humanity, given the technical capabilities of today with the modern weapons and technical capabilities, you could never get out, right. Well, and there are multiple candidates in the American presidential race that want very much to just exert just enough control to bring utopia which always ends in horror. And I've got this I don't really have time to get into it right now. The, the fifty most amazing moments of the last one hundred years. Compiled by adults not from the United States, which makes a list a little more. Interesting on US Centric law. Right. What's number one, though? I think number one is pretty interesting. As the right way the rest of the world looks at it, the last century, reckon. The moon landing that finishes fifth Watson. When you ask other countries end of World War, Two is number one. That's a good. Oh, sure yeah. Yeah. I mean. Yeah, I get it. The moon thing was astounding an achievement and wonderful and breathtaking. If tens of millions of people are dying than that stops. Yeah. That would stand out what's coming up your news Marshall got Trump Theresa May's press conference filled with mutual admiration, congress launching a major crackdown on social media and an update on those genetically enhanced Chinese babies on the.

Delighted that he could be here with us. So we're all interested in hearing his message, and I will now turn the podium over to my good friend. Jim Brett, I am so tired. I can't give him a needle. So come on up. Jim. Well, good morning. And I wanna thank the good doctor for that was wonderful wonderful words, welcoming really appreciate it. Now. I know why you look the way you do. Even. And I am saddened to learn the good doctor will be departing sandy, but we are very pleased that he has just been named president of another New England council member, and that is intercut college in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. And he will be taken over the reins and the next few months and. I know I speak for the community here that the good doctor has done an outstanding job here in his leadership. His vision is commitment his energy to the students to the faculty to the alum into the community. Here he will truly be someone that will be missed, but he has made his Mark here and. And last night is just another example that he is put this outstanding institution on the Mark. CNN and so many other national news outlets come here. And they don't come here by accidents enough a lot of work, and it's a it's called leadership and he's demonstrated. So we want to wish him the very very best. And I also want to thank Neil Leveque in his team here. It's Indians for being incredible incredible partners to the New England council as we work in the politics series. What you say about the VA, and then contrasted with AO talked about the VA a couple of years ago. Here's Seth Moulton veteran four combat tours during the long war since nine eleven democrat Representative from Massachusetts marine running for president talking on ABC yesterday, cut number eight. I'm not a socialist democrat. And I wanna make that clear, and maybe that's a differentiator from the in this race. You know, p talk a lot about health care, for example. I think I'm the only candidate who actually gets single payer healthcare. So I think Healthcare's a right, I think every American should have access to good affordable healthcare, but I made a commitment to continue getting my own healthcare at the VA when I was elected to congress that's single pair. And I'll tell you. It's not perfect. So if I'm elected, I'm not gonna force you off your private healthcare plan that so it's not perfect single payer. I'm with the VA. That is our election resourceless spotlight. Glenn calling calling it off the air, socialists. It's just a look at each democratic nominee. We did Joe Biden two weeks. Yeah. He did. There was a lot there to say about Joe Biden. We he was the last one this time. It's Kamala Harris is not the first thing. We're going to do is tell everyone it's Kamla Kamla. Yeah. Okay. Now, I'm come all. I want to say come on every single Kamla Harris. Yes, we're going to do little profile on comma. She remains an amazing story. The Amela background is really interesting. Bizarre. We're gonna get into to that. And it's interesting that this is a big week. Obviously everyone knows. And we'll always know December seventh nineteen forty one. Everyone remembers data infamy. This will be remembered as Seth Moulton day because today was the time. Yeah. People look back and say what were you doing on Seth Moulton day? And what you were doing is whatever you're doing right now because he announced to run for president today. And you're thinking yourself who Seth Moulton isn't that what chickens do when they lose their feathers or something run for president. Now about Seth Moulton L Steph. Themselves. Yes. Okay. And people when they themselves on fire, also Assefa, Milton. Okay. I'm pretty sure but Seth Milton is going. He's going to be surely elected president the United States, but this is still the beginning stages. He's a congressman from Massachusetts not seen to be a legitimate threat for the nomination. But then again, I will say people were like mayor from south bend, Indiana. And now it's only one poll, but he has one poll where he is hit seventeen percent in a poll that includes Biden if I had to make a prediction, he's going to be the nominee. I very rarely. Here's the problem with with them wrong. I'm I'm endorsing him even all nineteen doors ruin their lives. Just because if I endorse somebody they are guaranteed to lose. So I endorse Pete Buddha judge. So we have categories we've broken these guys into and and ladies from front runners to. Yeah, they got a shot to. I mean, maybe if everything goes, right? And then there's probably not and then no we put Seth Moulton in the know category. However, he is running. I started P Buddha jet. Controversial, by the way in the. I mean, maybe if everything goes right category. And because the only reason I did that I even put him there was because of the odd affection shown to him by Barack Obama and people close to Brock Obama people. He's has this. He has this level of like, here's our new up and comers. Choice. And that's why even put him in that category. Which is the third category. We've already moved him up to yet. They've got a shot, and we may go all the way up to front runner soon. The issue here is the initial category name, which is I mean, maybe if everything goes right is where we put a judge. The thing is everything's gone. Right. So far. Yeah. These nineteen people are eighteen others and in nineteen assuming on Wednesday when Joe Biden gets into this race. The nineteen other candidates are not just going to hand this guy that I'm a nation. They're going to eventually start saying critical things about him. So far, no one has said anything about him. And so it's it's easy to rise in the polls. When that happens may I. Herman cain. Did that Thompson did that? Bernie Sanders is currently leading because Bernie Sanders is so damn crazy. And he says who he is. Okay. So he's leading because he's not really a politician. Yeah. I mean, he's not even really a democrat. Diva lesley. And I'm not sure, okay. Kamala, Harris, comma, the hair Harris. I don't have an explanation for other than she's kind of likable. She seems kind of relatable. She's a black woman. You know, diversity, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, Cory Booker, Amy klobuchar. Elizabeth Warren, Bob, Frankel, Rourke Julian Castro Kirsten gillibrand. Okay. Just take those of the leaders. You put Pete Buddha judge in there while he's a politician. He's unlike any of the others. Remember, Donald Trump was unlike anyone else ever now Pete Buddha judge is different than everyone else running. Why is he different than everyone else? What do you think? He is. He doesn't seem like a slick politician at this point. He seems like a guy who is the average democrat who you know, I'm for big welfare state. I'm for these things I'm for health care. He says there is an indeed an emergency on her southern border can take it anymore. He says our country's full, but others are also speaking about that issue today with a different point of view. Congressman Seth Moulton says the president's threat to cut off funding to Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, not the way to go. He says increased aid is the way to go to help those countries deal with their situations there rather than cutting a to those three Central American countries where it seems most of these migrants are coming from well is interesting tonight with Tom Hudson. And I know you monitor what we talk about it. He he said that there have been people from forty four. Different countries around the world who have been detected crossing the border. I was surprised four it's huge Bangladesh Pakistan. India India any also said, and I haven't heard this before, but he said that they believe that there is an ISIS camp setup. Was it eight miles south of El Paso? Frightening. I Don was talking about say. So the president was saying was saying we shouldn't cut the aid to those three countries countries. Now, I remember this past week. He said essentially that he was going to give Mexico year to get their stuffing to get there. The way they try to stop migrants president saying the president saying that and that he was going to use tariffs instead. But that does not that you're not apply to those three countries. I take it apparently apparent he has threatened to cut off US aid to the three countries. If this year. Yeah. He's he he says they should put a stop to it. If that happened. They also ask should a special prosecutor to be named investigate whether senior FBI officials Haley Vesta Gatien's of Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump in legal and unbiased fashion, and it goes on to ask third question was his little load.
