"They limited the transition space for 18 Mike England and they had their wingers pressed worried about sergino dest and Anthony Robinson the way they pressed them. So it's a young team England somehow they aboard the naivete of the Americans. Yeah, they also, their major players in bigger teams and leagues. With bigger roles. With bigger roles, yes. Yes. All right, so we just mentioned it. England heading through to the quarterfinals where they will meet friends. Who just played against Poland earlier tonight. In a game that hurt many thought might be Friends. Against Mexico, alas, it was not that Al du mama stadium. You said Mexico would make it. Yeah, but many thought many thought, not me, that Mexico could finish second in their group. And I got to get you called it a while ago. I saw Mexico would have made it. I don't know that that was me being right. I think that was just maybe classically said pessimist, but we get to that later. You were right. Giroux scoring in the 44th minute off an assist from Mbappé open the scoring for France and then in bapa taking over in the second half. He scored a goal in the 74th. Another go to lasso in the first minute of stoppage time. Robert Lewandowski gets the golden hour for Poland via penalty, a retaken penalty in the 9th minute of stoppage time, three won the final France through to the quarterfinals. Or again, they will face England. Hurt this France team looks good. Are you getting 2018 vibes all over again from levy mad vibes? And the reason we say 2018 is because they started off not so great, right? And kept heating up every single round. There you go, you're all time goals for France overtakes cherry on Reed. That's insane to me. Because this man didn't score a goal last World Cup. He's also like one of those classic players that I feel like is underappreciated.

"What you saw from this Dutch team, especially in the build up to their two goals in the first half is. And almost I felt like using the athleticism that we talked about with this U.S. midfield against them. You bring them in in a rush, and then you're out the other side, and it's easy. It's very easy. It's very easy for Frankie to young and when you see a player that quality that caliber. It looks like he didn't do a lot, but he was so influential when he did have the ball. And the way he orchestrated in the way he got players going, you spoke about Denzel dumfries. Sergino dest had an opportunity to play with the Netherlands, okay? Yeah. This is one of the better players of the U.S. men's national team. He had one of the better tournaments in this World Cup. Sergino desk is not playing over dumfries. Pascal told us he probably doesn't even get in there 26 man squad. And dumb face was probably the best player on the field today. And you can see it when you talk about the talent level and look, we're very proud of these players, you know, from a Concacaf level, concave perspective of how they did this tournament. The way they reacted from that second half against Wales, the total performance versus a very good English team. A very emotional game in Iran and how they handled that. It's a very young team and you should be very proud of how they handled those moments, but you can see the evident gap in talent when it comes to the players. Sergio desk one of the better players isn't an a Denzel dumfries level, not right now. But it's even more evident when you look at Louis van gaal. And that resume, that CV. And his actual tactical game plan today and how he just swallowed whole. Greg ber holder. So we criticized Tata martino with Mexico against Argentina for not being aggressive enough. I actually thought the U.S. set up in the first half was very aggressive. There were times at the back where they left it two on two and there was just tons of space. But isn't that kind of dying as you lived? Is there not some phrase? It's been naive. Listen, they were buried in sight. Had the players, look, I just want to throw a static. What do we do? We break it down. All right, okay. All right. What I'm trying to tell you is, I don't believe Greg berhalter put his attacking players in a bad spot in the first half. I think he put them in good spots. I did he put him in a terrible position. The attacking players. Yes, because you have sergino dest and Anthony Robinson who did not have a good game and had a very heavy foot. He's had a heavy foot on him all turned him and even more so this tournament. I gave him a ton of credit for playing on one ankle, basically. That's what he's been doing playing on one leg. But when you ask those two players to come in as interiors and what I mean by interiors and people should realize is you're asking them to carry the ball from a wide position inside and play make as 8. And what happens there is Eunice Musa in western McKinney will have to evacuate that space. And they will go wide and sometimes it looks like they're the right back or the left back or they're a winger, so to speak and it's Timothy waya coming inside. And it's a lot of fluid movement. That is all good. That is great when you have the ball. And it looks very good. It looks very nice, but you know what happens if you lose the ball. The harder that central midfield, you know where they are. Next to the touchline. And you know what Tyler Adams is? On an island. One V two. And all of a sudden Tyler Adams has to worry about one V two. Frankie young and the run. And then he's got to go try to track back Memphis the pie. And when he can't get there, guess what Memphis has? A free chance on goal. So what I'm trying to tell you, it was very naive. It was always going to be a game of picture chances. You have to be very proud of how they played in certain matches in this tournament. But definitely, listen, goals change games. Christian Pulisic scores that goal. It's a different game. Motion is different. Not only for the U.S. man's national, but for the Netherlands and it can be a different game. But you have to be smarter than that. I think that's where I'm disappointed with Greg brahl during this U.S. mesa. The stat I was going to throw out at you at the first half before we move on to the game changing moment. 93 touches for the United States in the Dutch final third, just 29 for Netherlands in the American final third, but to the point about quality, it's what you do with those touches. The Dutch were clinical throughout the Americans obviously, we're not. Let's get to the game changing moment because it is the goal that in the end puts Netherlands

"More than anything, it's the vision. When you can eliminate players multiple players in the midfield, that draws defenders to you. And when you draw defenders and you have the ability to scan the field, you have the ability to set up the play that sets up the goal. Because he's not very productive in terms of goals and assists, but he's the guy that sets up the goals in the assist. You know what's really interesting. He's not been a part of the program all that long. He committed to the U.S. in March of 2021. It's not even two years ago. And I think when we talk about Greg berhalter and we talk about the things that he's done well, we talk about recruiting the dual nationals. I think Eunice Musa is his biggest win. You might say, well, sergino dest is a great player as well. Sergino dest was working with the U.S. youth national teams first. And if you hear why dust ends up choosing the U.S., he says it's because they were with me early on. Before I was a thing that I asked, they had their eyes on me, right? That loyalty was built in. That's not the case with Musa. Musa starts in the English setup, and he plays a lot for England, you 15, you're 16, you're 17, you 18, he's a big part of that England youth setup. Greg berhalter went in there is like going into your rival states backyard and snapping a kid up. That is a huge win where he probably didn't expect. I mean, if you look at the odds there, you say, we're not going to get this kid. England say better program and they put in more work. They also had Ghana in Italy. So what is Greg berhalter doing to convince these kids to me it's Greg berhalter's biggest win and we just talked about Mexican players who may have upped their stock. He's been at Valencia while now. And Valencia is a selling club, right? Under Peter. They weren't even playing them in the center. They want to make their money. Do you think we could be seeing a player ready? Because Valencia wants to sell in club. It's not a bad level. Do you think he's ready for something more? Or is he just convincing you that he should now go back to Valencia and be the guy? Be a starter every week. He's got to take the next step in his career. Valencia is a great team, great league. But if you have teams like mail on an Inter Milan, who are chasing you, who want that signature, that is a logical next step. It's not logical next step. It's a logical next step, and play. Champions League consistently. That sort of deal. I think it's also what he needs. I'm starting to see this defensive side tool now. At that added layer to his game, I think that was what was missing for a lot of maybe those scouts. A lot of those teams to think that he could be ready for the next level. He's got a 6 year deal right now at Valencia that he signed in 2020. He's got a $100 million release clause. So that sounds like a lot, but apparently Villeneuve is trying to re sign him and we just talked about. Whenever they're trying to re sign you, it's so that they can sell you. Absolutely. For more. All right, let's hand out some grades here. We're feeling very scholarly on football America's tonight. Let's look at the U.S. group phase as a whole. And let's focus our grades in on the manager. What grade are you giving Greg berhalter for this group phase where his team gets 5 points and gets second place and gets through to the round of 16? It's Group B? Let's go with the B plus. We'll tell you why a B plus. Get another group should be an a, right? They did that. It's borderline a for me. So what are you talking about? That's why. I think Greg berhalter has learned every single game. And he's gotten better from that. But there's still the moments, there's a reason why you have to learn from it. In Poland, second half, Wales. I'm sorry, what else? Why is it poor? Well, second half. First half, very good. Second half, it's wells who are putting you on the back foot. It's wells who have overtaking you physically. They've overtaken you physically. He gets it wrong there, but he learns from it versus England. They get better, they put in a very complete performance against a very good English site. Not just a good result, a good performance. Good performance. But then it's Iran and

"I think there's a good chance that he will be playing 90 minutes in most matches, if not all. You couldn't say that for giovanna, and you probably couldn't say that for a brand aronson. And he certainly can't say that for Tim wea. So with that being said, I think for game one, you know exactly what you get from unis Musa and if he's playing at his best vibes on a thousand, give it to me. You know, a guy that we didn't mention, but we should have. And look, if he starts, we will, because I think he'll be among those guys right next to Tyler's Weston McKinney. Who should start against Wales in your opinion, Charlie? Take me through your 11. This is Charlie Davies 11. This is not Greg berhalter's 11. We can sort of argue as you go as whether Greg might disagree. What is your 11? So Matt Turner and goal, right to left across the back line, sergino dest, walker's Zimmerman, Tim ream, Antony Robinson. All right, pause, Tim ring. Dig in. Tim ream. So you're looking at air long, Cameron Carter Vickers, or Tim ream for that spot. Camera card Vickers has been playing at Celtic, got injured, and he's not a left center back. Not left footed. So then Aaron long, Aaron long has always been Greg berhalter's guy, has given him a lot of chances, has been out of play. Because New York Red Bulls came out of the playoffs for an extended amount of time, his play since probably the last two months of the season hasn't been strong. And so in terms of confidence and fitness, I'm going to go for Tim ream, who's been playing extremely well every week. The captain of Fulham, great with the ball at his feet. So you don't have to worry about distribution and communication because he plays with anti Robinson every week. So you know that partnership is on point. They understand each other. They know their strengths and weaknesses. So I think that's why I would start Tim marine because of not just because of his age and experience, but because he's fit and he's informed and he has that great partnership and understanding what anti Robinson who is obviously going to provide cover on the weak side. Do you think do you agree, Dave? Do you think Greg agrees? So I refuse to try and predict or describe anything about what Greg berhalter thinks based off the roster. Like we spent 18 months working on that and then I don't know, he watched a game last weekend and picked other people and that's not a knock on him 'cause I do think a lot of these were debatable 50 50s, but so I refuse to try and predict what he's going to do. In saying that, I will predict, I don't think Tim ream will start all three games. So now you're looking at, okay, well, which ones is he not going to start? Now, everything Charlie said, I agree with. The big one is if whales is a game where you have more possession, you want Tim ream trying to break lines out of the center back roll when you're higher up the field. But I do think the biggest factor for this game is allowing Robinson and desk freedom to attack. And worrying about counter attacks and athleticism from Wales. And that's why I think Aaron long gets the start in this game and ream gets the start again thing England.

"We have some bad news, a big injury in the national women's soccer league that could impact the future of the U.S. women's national team pool. But let's start with the game that we just witnessed. The United States against Japan from dusseldorf. In Germany, quiet stadium. Not a great pitch. 7 minutes in though, what felt like a good start for the Americans. So Gino destined to spend 8 and Jill raina sprained that ball out wide as Virginia and desk, showing good strength there. Brilliant ball across and you've got to be a killer in that box. That is a goal you have to score. Big news before this game, of course, no Christmas. Oh, ballistic. Starting lineup. Here's a turnover for the U.S.. Oh no. Who vote with the shot Matt Turner big early save? One of the many turnovers by the U.S. back line. Really an unforced error and it's Matt Turner coming up big there. So Japan couldn't take the lead. Early, but a few minutes later they do. It's here in the 24th minute. Turnover in midfield, daiichi Kamala gonna get it. All alone converts and at first the offside flag goes up and we were told there wasn't even var in this game. And it's something there was more. And it was a goal. How about that hurt? Yeah, it is another yes. Another really, I guess you could say force turnover, Weston McKinney, forced to play with his back to goal, gives us the ball, sergino dest, a pie, Matt Turner, hung out to dry, it was a recurring theme. There goes the goal and then again, Weston McKinney backed the goal, comes right back down to her throat. On this one, Matt Turner comes up with a say, but a recurring theme throughout this game for the U.S. men's national team. Yeah, Matt Turner, though, the big, big stop on Ito. He had a couple of those throughout this match to keep it at one nothing in the second half. Ten minutes after that, 65th minute, another chance for Japan. Look at this. On the sideline, you get double to give up the ball. A one V one situation right there. And again, it's Matt Turner having to come up big, yet again for the U.S. man's national team. It's the way they turn the ball over. Whether it was defensively or in the midfield, they just let you chance at the chance for Japan. Never a good thing when your goalie is probably your best performer, 81st minute. Chance here for the United States, Brendan aronson, just misses. Yeah, Johnny cardoza right here, very good turnover that led to the Brendan errands enchants. As good as he got for the U.S. men's national team, not even on goal, but it's a shot at least, and then Reggie can. You can not do this. You can not turn your back on the play. Turn your back in the defensive third, Japan taking just care of business. Again, another turnover Matt Turner can't do anything about this. Let's hear from Greg berhalter after the match. Greg, what did you see from your team today? You know, I think it was a really competitive match. I think we ended up hurting ourselves a little bit too much in the game with silly giveaways. And we want a little more personality in the mansion. Give Japan a lot of credit, good team, competitive team that pressed well. But we can do better. A lot of attention obviously on the central defense. How did you evaluate what you saw from that position? We'll look at the tape and we'll analyze it more carefully. I think there were some good moments, some moments that can be improved, but we'll evaluate

You want to put in a lot of hard work, but you want to enjoy what you're doing because this is an event that only comes around every four years. The players read media, you walking around the hotel and you see you guys scroll on Twitter or reading something, do you read anything in between games? No. For sure not, never. Well, not never. I wouldn't say never. Early on when my job for sure did. And now it's more about, to me, it's just more about how do you stay in the present. And that's the way I do it is just trying to be present to people, trying to be there. And I think when I think that can sidetrack you, that can help that could lead to a loss of focus. I want to stay in the here in the now. And I sort of breezed past this. We talked about leads and aaronson and Adams. But there are sides of the pool right now that aren't as positive. And I think about sergino dest at Barcelona and what that situation is with shavi and he would be a guy that you would, you know, if I'm looking at a U.S. 11 right now in the World Cup, I would say, so genio dust is in that 11. Christian pool stick has gone through a lot at Chelsea and it seems to be in a weird moment. Was he going to stay? Was he going to go? Rumors surrounding him. I start with desks. Do you have any concern about the situation that sergino is in at Barcelona? And we know playing time being fit being informed. No, absolutely. "As scramble, but has Zimmerman has been, I think, the best field player for the U.S. over the last two games. And then I think healthy sergino dest and a healthy Anthony Robinson are both locks as well. And it's weird because dust is the better player, the better overall player. But Anthony is more of a solid lock because there are so many big questions about who could be the backup left back. Whereas if gets hurt and can't go, whatever, I'm pretty confident in Reggie cannon and I'm pretty confident in Deandre yedlin, even Shaq Moore. We have to go that far down the list. But I think three of the four back line, those guys are locks, and then it's a question between Chris Richards and Aaron long for who's going to partner Zimmerman. Charlie made the suggestion. I think I agree with them. The dust is the backup left back. So, okay, let me, sorry. Because we've had this conversation a lot. One of the issues with that comment. And I understand what he means. Is the best left back on the roster that is not Anthony Robinson or Jedi, whatever you want to call him. But if your concept going into the World Cup is that death is your backup left back. Let's just word it like this. When you are rotating your team, sergino dest is still playing. So if he becomes your backup left back, I guess you're probably going to play your best team against England. So you're not rotating from game one to game two. Now you're going to game three. If death is your backup left back and he has started the first two games at right back and you're giving Anthony Robinson a break. Sergino dest is now playing 90 minutes at left back. So while I understand that concept and we've all said it and I think dust is as comfortable on the left as he is on the right. And as effective a player, fine. But he can play for Barcelona left back sometimes, then you're good enough to play for the U.S.. I mean, yes, but no, it's different, David, because when he plays left back for Barcelona, he pinches inside, he becomes a midfielder. And the U.S. doesn't really play like that. We play like that for three games at the start of berhalter's tenure. We do not play like that anymore. You can play left back at a really high level. It changes so much about the way the U.S. play and Barcelona can deal with that because they have some of the very best players in the world. We don't have that. Well, actually. Genuinely think we need a like for like replacement for Anthony Robinson. Do you think this is a 26 man versus 23 man roster conversation? Because in a 26 man roster, it's not a question..

"Mistake that creeped up that kind of soured a very good performance, but when you have a 20 7 man squad that was called in and you think that John Brooks playing weekend and week out in the Bundesliga isn't good enough to be in that squad. It scratches the head. I think you're also looking at a situation with just sergeant as well. That he's playing weekend and week out in the Premier League. And somehow he can't be into that squad. And I think the other question with the injury to sergino dest that a lot of fans were questioning is how does Joe scally not get the opportunity to come in when George Bello does? You know, George makes his move to Bela feld and for the most part has been a sub where Joe scallion has been starting week in and week out for glovebox. So yeah, Greg has left some questions there. But in the end, as a manager at any club you're at in national team as well, you're judged on results and if Greg gets the U.S. national team qualified to the World Cup, doesn't really matter who he called in. What we've seen tonight case, he has a revolving door of our ESPN FC guests on that balcony tonight in Madrid. And we see that you two are in Madrid. We're all talking about our classical, but a big game this weekend. You are there for IO against athletic you are back at your old stomping ground of Vallejo. You must be looking forward to this. It's been a while. It's been a while. I am very much so. I mean, it'll be fun to be back at a study of I guess it's been the first time I've been there since I played. And it'll be interesting. You've got two clubs in completely different form. I mean, the tremendous start to the season from ryo has absolutely dissipated. That draw against Sevilla at the weekend, hopefully we'll build some confidence knowing that they'd gone 6 matches in the league without picking up points. And Atlético after what has to be said a poor start to their campaign this year and now I've got the form turning in the right direction. So it'll be very interesting to see and then coming off the heels of that what you would call just a classic Athletico performance against Manchester United in Champions League defending as you expected Diego Simeone's side to defend. And it'll be interesting to see against a rhino side that they're not a team that's going to park the bus against regardless of who they play. They're going to try to press in midfield when the ball counter score goals. So I hope ryo can turn the form around and really upset tomorrow. Do you know what's going to be even more interesting? And by the way, Casey's on the call with rob Palmer for that one is that all season long we've been watching Marty Einstein's.

Before he got to death, that everybody played well. So I'm not buying it. What I do love though is it'd be very easy for a young player, especially young player to pack it in. The coach doesn't like me. It's whatever. I'll probably have another team wait. Lined up. And he does have other teams lined up. We know this will have other teams lined up. And he didn't do that. Sergino dest may be a lot of things. But he's not quitting. He's not quitting on Barcelona, and he seems to me like he wants to prove his worth to chave. So take it for what it's worth, but do I buy the one 80 that shabby is trying to sell us? No, not for one bit. You know, I think also maybe I don't buy necessarily that shavi was the one driving the dust out narrative at Barcelona. I feel like that's more a boardroom level thing because we all know and we've said it on this show before. So genio dust because he's a right back because he's pretty good because he's American. Has a value. Barcelona's story, the narrative around the club is nothing more than a money story right now. They need money. So I think that was the get dest out narrative that we were hearing. If he's anything of a decent coach, he's not going to come in in a couple of weeks sentence a talented, valuable asset to the bench. And to not ever be able to let's not be naive enough to think that shabby didn't have his ear to the ground for Barcelona and already have the lay of the land. Like he knew exactly what he was getting into, who the players were, et cetera, et cetera and he is surging your desk a Ronald cuman type of guy. Do you think at least dust is potentially changing, Chavez's opinion? Like, I mean, at least he's starting over Danielle of us. There was a one point where when Daniel bus is out of him, you're saying 38 38 years old in a red card. Yeah. Yeah. All right, let's run it back. There was some great place from Americans, and.

"And there's reason to feel good about that. It just feels like once those guys start to hit their prime, when they get to 21, 22 years old. And this group of Real Madrid players that we've known for so long are starting to maybe phase out. This could, we might be, it might still be too three years away, but this could get interesting quicker than how it feels right now. Like if we look at what we've talked about the Manchester United Barcelona compares comparison how Manchester United feels like just no matter what they do, they can't get back to where Manchester City currently are. I don't know if I feel like it's going to be that way for that long between Barcelona and Real Madrid. Possibly I think the economics of it are going to mean that well, they think they can get Holland. Who thinks that? Barcelona? Well, the porta said that. Yeah. They're back. I remember? Yeah. I thought we'd just call that risible and decided to forget about it stuck with me. I don't see it. I actually think if the economics continue in the same vein, neither of these teams will have once this generation your bush gets your PK and your Casimir Benzema once they move on. I was going to say off this mortal coil. They're not going to die, but when they move on to the next life of my football, retirement, Andrew, I was trying to be too flowery about it. But when that happens, you better believe that Barcelona will hope they're in a better position in terms of their youth because the economics mean all the good players will be in England. They won't be in Spain. They won't be available there. So there won't be the same kind of draw towards these teams. If things keep trending the way they are. So Barcelona may have the advantage in that they've got these youngsters coming through. The economics may be so bad, though, that they have to sell them. We don't know. That is still a possibility. That some of these players. For example, the sense of are trying to extract any sense from Danny alves return and jettisoning sergino dest outside of economics. There is none. And I don't care if javi feels as if, well, you know, maybe our people are saying that javi feels there's a defensive issue over him. You know, this is crazy. This is a 38 year old against one of the best young players in the European game. And test is this makes no sense except we need to plug a hole here. We need to get fern towards registers. So we have to rob Peter to pay Paul and get rid of this young talent. And if that model continues, Andrew barsa will still be nowhere. Well, but conceivably they'll recoup money. You'll get something for sergino desk because he's a young player. You know, at some point, they will 40 million to cover, but it's covering Taurus. They'll be in this constant cycle of trying to stay ahead of the financial rules in Spain. And they'll stagnate that way. The Harlem thing is interesting. And this is probably a conversation for the summer, but whatever. We're talking about it now. Like I said, I'm under the impression in papa's going to Real Madrid and nothing stopping that. So everybody wrap your mind. And wrap your minds around. By the force of will of two men that will happen. Minor raiola and Latino Paris. Correct. It'll happen. I was reading before him. And this idea of, okay, how can Barcelona pitch themselves to Holland in this moment where Barcelona appear to be in a low ebb? And the pitch essentially, the Barcelona are going with is this idea of look at what the rivalry of Messi and Ronaldo did to those two legacies. Like a magic bird type rivalry. If magic and bird were on the same team, they were both Lakers if they were both Celtics. There's no rivalry. There's no that tradition is lost and gone. It's not fun. Messi Ronaldo has a rivalry. It added to both players legacies and the aura around each of them. So be that to embark and bought a Holland the same age, same position, be this bring this rivalry individual rivalry back to these clubs. And that's kind of Barcelona's Spanish Spanish football pitch. That's what a lot of people I'm sure Tobias would love that. But how does this work? Financially, financially. I don't know. I have no idea. Because but I didn't think that they could afford 60 million for Ferran Torres. But they can't. I mean, we know they can. But they're doing it. They're figuring out a way and they still have to figure out how to jettison someone to get them in. How much will the rest of the team suffer? And again, we should be saving this for the summer. But let me finish on this point. How much would the rest of the bass rebuild suffer by this guy's wages? Holland's wages alone. I just. Manchester City seems like a more likely landing spot. Would you believe that Manchester United is a more likely landing spot? I think economically. I should mention, by the way, that Ferran Torres did play today, so he's with Barcelona. He's a player for them. I'm sure that someone still has to go out for those books to be balanced. I'm convinced of it. And I'm sure they'll figure it out somehow some way. But congrats to Real Madrid. They're into the final awaiting awaiting their opposition. That's correct. Awaiting their possibly athletic club, you don't know. Let's continue to another semifinal that was played earlier today. Second leg, Chelsea and Tottenham and it is Chelsea who go through three nil on aggregate one nil on the day. JJ, here's a stat for Chelsea fans. They'll sleep well at night hearing this one. This.

"Have to figure out whether a whole bunch of money to him. I don't think what I was going to necessarily make waves. I appreciate the triangle with Atlético and Barcelona. But he went to have a contract in hand. So the only way they let him go, I think would be if they found a replacement in midseason. They've been linked with general casca from swallow, obviously very young player, but a genuine center forward. I think this is very, very difficult to pull off as jemma said. You still have the issue of Alvaro morata's wages. You're adding something like another 5 to 6 million gross sorry 5 to 6 million net, which is what like 10 million gross onto your wage bill at a time when you already need to reduce it if you're going to pursue this idea of having Ferran Torres available to you in January. That's a lot of genius. You've got to sell there. Yeah, well, obviously, let's talk a little about genio deaths because his future is uncertain right now. We will get to that book just because we were talking about fat and Torres and register in there. And jemmy, you touched on it. It's still not registered at Barcelona. What's the latest situation with Ferran Torres is signing? Well, it's not registered because it's not possible yet. Barcelona, they like drama. And they like to start the house from the roof down. So beginning at the end, the transfer market winter transfer market, it's still not over. And it opens the generally the third. So that would be the first day also he's injured. So he's not able to play. So they have a little bit more days to resistor and to make him available to play. But the situation is the same as before. He they have the spending limit. They need to get rid of players. It's not enough with the mirror. And look the young that's funny for chubby. He's the only forward available for the next game in Majorca. The only one this player that is not counting on him. So of course they are trying to sell MTT and continue in the deal with usman the letter to try to have his renewal. It's really an electrical moment. So maybe they don't have to pay his way just, but it's not a desirable situation either for Barcelona because they wanted to try to make some at least to keep the player or try to make some business and it's really looking quite that right now. Well, gab did mention sergino dest who doesn't seem to be in the plans of shabby. So his futures uncertain there with Barcelona, but if his agent is to believe, he is actually wanted by buying now we know how the two compare particularly this season Barcelona not at bayan's level. So gab is Chevy missing something here or.

"Deal with Vanessa. And the brief stint he played against Costa Rica that he was a tremendous in the limited time we got him to see him, but he's really expanded his game. I thought he struggled in the goal cup. I thought he was one of the big players. We had hopes for big hopes for and he struggled. While he's putting some of those doubts to RAS, he's getting to be a better player on and off the ball. Both sides of the ball and venetia. And I think it's a player that gives you a little versatility. Yeah? He's not that ball winner 'cause part of me thinks he's gonna go with Kellen o'clock instrument. He likes that physicality. He likes the athleticism and the defensive effort that Kalani Costa gives you. But if you really want to add another element of buildup of play, creativity, even set pieces. I think John Lucas is your man and I would go with luzio. Okay, so you mentioned boozy oh, you mentioned Kellen Acosta. You haven't mentioned two names in which we know are options for Greg berhalter, but also we know will upset some U.S. men's national team. Sebastian legit, Christian rolled on. What are the odds that you think we see either of those two guys either as a starter or as a sub in Jamaica? Pretty high. Yeah, I think rolled down as a sub absolutely. You're going to see him Greg berhalter enjoys what he gets out of a busy roll down and roll down to his credit. He creates things. He may not get on the score sheet with the goal or an assist, but he's always one of those guys that presses the right moment creates things for his teammates. He's a very good teammate, which is very hard to find at any level. He's one of those guys that Gregor halter knows what he gets from him and Sebastian legit. He just seems to be one of the confidants of Greg ber haltern. I know he's at his up and downs, but Sebastian legit at his peak at his best U.S. misogyny is a very capable player. I just don't think he's in a very good moment right now. Short answer here. We know we're going to see at least two changes because they're forced. We know he's not going to start scallion so you're not going to get that change which is one that you want to see. You did just beat Mexico to nothing like, don't you have to reward the other 9 guys by keeping them in the lineup, especially without the need for rotations. I would almost assume that you can't really make changes here. I wouldn't make try to you hit it out of the park when you said. This is a two game window. You don't treat it like a three game win, and you think you have to make these changes. So why did you want to put scallion for yedlin? Because I want to get him that experience. I think this is when you get his feet wet. We talked about it in the pre game show in the post show about how Joe scally should have been brought in last window. Well, if you're already late to that, and you think sergino dest might not be durable, you think there will be a chance for Joe scally at the right back or left back position because he's played both with glide back. You bring him in, you get him acclimated and you get him going. This can no longer be an excuse about this experience in Concacaf. When it comes to Christian Pulisic, the term judgment call was used her. Your judgment, if you're the manager, do you start Christian politic in Jamaica? Well, this changes with the Mexico win. You have the luxury of having that. When you don't need to stress out and think Christian political has to be your go to guy and also Greg for halter has already tipped his hand. He said that the field.

"You explain emotionally, what goes on in your head when you say that? I say that in a calm confidence that I think that I can really help the group in the way I'm willing to do anything I can to help each and every one of my teammates succeed. So I've had good captains, whether it was through New York or through Leipzig and just leaning on them for guidance and experience I've been able to learn a lot. And I've always took that personally that I do want to learn these things and if I'm ever called upon in that situation, I want to be prepared and ready to help the team in any way. So I've grown a lot as an individual and matured a lot through these players and these experiences. So I think that leading a group of people is something that I enjoy doing. It's definitely important to me. I think that being a person that guys can lean on for advice for anything they need, I'm a relatable person. I enjoy being that person, the vocal point of things and helping my teammates. At the club level, you went to the moon or rather to Leipzig, December 2nd, 2018, Bundesliga disruptors RB Leipzig paid a reported $3 million to bring some of whopping as falls finest into their lives. The generation of American footballers before you so many went to Europe and many, many failed, they couldn't adjust to the culture to the tactical level. Or to just not an America, both the intensity of the football and the grind of life off the field. It did so many end, and they fled back after a seasonal two to the comfort of MOS, was any part of you afraid of the culture shock. Finishing an MLS season and then going directly over, I didn't really have time to think about the culture shock. So I didn't really think too much into it. I kind of packed my bags like a month before moving and then I was just like, all right, waking up and time to go. I know you've been studying German for 5 months before you move there, but on the field. Did you experience a footballing culture shock? The faster pace of the game, the ball movement. Really, the ruthlessness of that locker room culture. I wouldn't say it was ruthless from a Red Bull perspective where such an international team. We have so many foreigners that are in the same position as me. They're leaving home at young ages and coming to a new country and a new environment. So I think everyone's kind of going through that learning process. But for me, I was able to actually settle in really quickly and I was lucky to unfortunate to have some teammates that helped whether it was translating things in video. So I could understand that kind of helped me push the learning curve maybe faster than others to settle in. So I was definitely fortunate. But we think of pro football as a glamorous life a dream. But a lot of American players when they took honestly took about the downtime, the occasional, incredible loneliness of being in Europe. Was there anything that surprised you? Of course, the language, it's one thing to sit across zoom for 5 months before you go to Germany to learn a little bit and see what you can learn. And when you're learning things about what's in the kitchen and what certain foods are and stuff like that, you realize that you don't need any of that when you arrive in a country where you're learning a foreign language instead you need to learn how to have a normal conversation and not so much the grammatical part of it. And I think that's important when you're coming into a new place, you shy away from that challenge of being able to have to speak another language, but now I think as you become more comfortable that you see how easy it makes like outside of purple as well. And that's why it's super important. Olive Garden. The one I went to was on route 17. Tyler, I love hearing you talk about what it's like to play in the Champions League. You once said, hearing that answer from a young age. I mean, usually, I'm on my couch, turning on the TV and watching the players walk out to it. This season, I mean, you are playing Manchester City. You are playing PSG, you are living that life walking out onto the field to the champ, beyond. Can you describe what it's like to stand in that pregame handshake line and hear that exquisite noise and no millions of kids are watching you and dreaming of following in your footsteps? It's still a goosebumps for me. It really is. It's weird because you never pictured playing at 9 p.m. in European nights and the cold with the bright light and the anthem playing because normally for me was a normal day after school I'd come home, get off the bus at two o'clock and then Champions League was at two 45. So that's a special moment, especially for me and my dad because we would always watch the games together after school, but the opportunity to play in some really big games, some good learning experiences, a couple mistakes, which is good and now you grow from them. August 13th, 2020. Do you know what happened on that day Taylor? August 13th, 2020. You only went and scored a historic goal in Champions League Cup finals. You put light zig two one up against Atlético Madrid. It wasn't the prettiest strike, but they all count. And I love that moment. First, you becoming the first player in our nation's history to score a goal in a men's Champions League quarterfinal stage or beyond. I said to my kids in that moment, 5 years earlier, that man's mom was driving him back and forth to practice night after night just so he could live that second. What did that feel like that moment? It all paid off. I remember waking up in that morning and the coach telling me I wasn't planning. So immediately I was pissed and then being brought on as a sub and just having to be prepared and ready for your opportunity and then being able to take it that's a perfect example of what football is is you go through ups and downs, but things change really quickly. And you always have to remember that. We are living Tyler in an unprecedented age, where there is a wave of young American talent on the men's side so skilled, so optimistic, grinding through European football together. You western, Christian, sergino dest, Zack Stefan, Brendan aaronson, Jean Luciano, and more. Do you feel you're writing a new story of what it means to be an American footballer in Europe together? A 100%. Not just the European part of it and being able to play it the highest stages, the biggest stages, the highest level of football. But I think it's so important for young players to realize that every single person's pathway to get here was completely different. I can go through all the names that you said and just explain to them how we've gotten to this point in our careers, but it's sometimes not pretty, sometimes it's pretty and seems easy, but there's an extreme amount of hard work and dedication and commitment to the process and just believing in the process and grinding it out and hopefully good things will come from it. But there's obviously no guarantee in football for anything you do. One of the juries of this young wave from the outside toiler is how much you support each other and celebrate each other's successes. Can you talk about how you experience it in the various WhatsApp and Instagram chat groups that you have give us a taste of who the most vocal leaders are and what's been said..

"I'm seeing I'm rotating because you're supposed to rotate and I read a football manager game FAQ ten years ago. I wish I was more optimistic, but right now I'm just not so let's celebrate, I think that's a good free man who millington you're beautiful man with a beautiful suit in your icon. I would say let's celebrate tonight. Let's appreciate the three points. But, you know, I care about medium to long-term optimism, and I'm not sure. I mean, you guys ask me any question or talk to me? What you see from these three games that is improved your optimism in the medium term? All for everything for me is medium term. I believe we're going to qualify. I care about the medium term. I want that learning curve for the players. But most of all in the idea of the American football, I want that to develop, I really, really do God bless you and do millington. I interviewed rapha today. I finished the interview by saying to him, what the fucking toffees, my God, he could not have loved it more, he's one of us now Andrew millington, let's build that statue. Oh, come on up to the stage. The great Seamus toner. Where are you and what's your question? Hello Raj. I am from Tallahassee, Florida, and first off I want to say thank you for sharing that inaki Williams article in your newsletter earlier this week. It was amazing. It was yeah. Phenomenal story, great story. It's funny. You watch someone for years and you never know. They're true background. So thank you for sharing that. And then second I submitted two questions. So I'm not sure which one I got put in here for. But I guess the first one, so I've seen people on Twitter and in this chat criticize Weston McKinney's play tonight and then say wester McKinney was great tonight. So does the complete opposite opinions of an influential player mean that we have officially made it as a soccer slash football country. And then that's all we need to shame us. We needed to go over the top split opinions and then my other question was no, I know that the U.S. has struggled and there has been just two maybe three good halfs of play this whole cycle. But I think some consistent consistent just brilliance we've seen has been from the fullback positions with Anthony Robinson and sergino dest. And I know that we have Joe scally in the wings who wasn't even called up to this roster. So what is it like to have a U.S. team that has real depth that is very talented? Oh my God, let me take your first question. Because I think it's a great question. I laugh tonight. We tweeted out, so who should be the bloody number one going forward? And within a second, we got the first two answers genuinely within a second. The first one was Zack Stefan of, I think. And the second one with a second was going to be Matt Turner. And so I love you framing, which is great, let's have that debate. That means you're a real footballing nation. And I think that's probably true. Like debate having debate is has not been a given like I'm not sure if, you know, in the marcella Balboa era, people were like, oh, Marcel Balboa must be dropped and maybe I don't know should be replacing him. So it's great to have this. And a lot of you obviously are shouting out at your Spotify green room devices. Tom Doe. But the reality is western tonight. I was quite fascinated by it. I won't be clear. I love western ain't westerns an incredible player. Very early on. Yeah, we had them on very early JWP. He was 18, he came on our show with Tim weyer and I loved him. I loved what he had to say I love what he had said on the record I love what he had to say off the record. I love watching him to me he's like a hand grenade in human form. And we spoke with a U.S. youth coach during the last World Cup cycle. He actually told me that western has the potential. This in 2018 he said this western has the potential to be the best U.S. player of his generation if. And he said this in 2018, if he can focus, if he can focus on the football. And I didn't dig deeper because I didn't know western particularly well and said, what do you mean? What are you talking about? In fairness to this gentleman, he said, both positionally and stop being a utility player, but actually, but also with his football wasn't clear to him at that moment that the football was the dominant and only thing western cared about. And so western's not talked to the press, not addressed the issue, avoided and wanted to let his football do is. Speaking for him and watching him tonight, you know, especially in that first half, we wanted to see the verticality. What is verticality the Gregg brothers talked about a lot? And to me a lot in that first half, it looked like verticality was western trying to redeem himself, put the team on his shoulders, dribbles completely through the midfield single handedly and overrun the ball and get this possessed. My daughter, Zion is a very good football player. She plays club football. When she plays for a school, it's hilarious for her because she's playing in a very much more mixed team, and she plays center back. She's absolutely brutal. She's an enforcer. But it's a joy for her to play in the high school setting because he can dribble the entire field and make 1214 dribbles a game. And I'd say 5 or 6 of them, she gets completely down the other half and gets to create a challenge and often a goal. But, you know, 8 or 9 times should get dispossessed. You can not beat 7 8 players on your own. And that's what it was like watching western tonight. It was like watching Zion, she didn't know for a laugh. I think why was he doing it is really the question. I'm not in western's head, I can't answer that. Was it like redemption? Was it an urge to prove himself? Was it? You can many things. Yeah, I think sometimes western. Oh, I think sometimes in this is just me talking. I've been doing that for the past four hours. Sometimes he goes to bed on his Italian bedsheets and he dreams of being a number ten when reality he's more of a number 8. And that's okay. We all growing up. I thought I was a sinner Ford, and then I realized I should have been playing fullback. But that's okay. Sheamus, the honest truth is out of the choice of dreams, western shrimp being a great number ten roger Bennett's dream, being.
